'Orphan' is an AMAZINGLY dumb name for Cass. I know people have said that a lot, but its true! Her entire Batgirl run is about her parents! Like, from beginning to end!

Other characters are often introduced with the descriptor, 'her father' or 'her mother'. Slade is Rose's dad. Ra's al Ghul is Nyssa's dad. Cain and Bruce are Cass' dads. Shiva is Cass' mom. And Babs just ... actually does the parenting during half those conversations.

The arc of discovering Shiva's is her mother stretches from issue 7 to 73.

Wrestling with her relationship with Cain is the centre of her first ever arc, even before the series starts, and the man shows up probably every 5 issues during the series? He's a constant background presence. SO MUCH of the story is about how she feels about this guy. She beats him up and then angrily gives him a Father's Day flower!

Shiva explicitly calls Bruce Cass' dad. He's contrasted with Cain almost every time Cain appears. People mistake Cass for Batman consistently, much to her pride.

WHY WOULD YOU NAME HER ORPHAN????????

Probably only Damian spends as much time thinking about, and interacting with, his parents! Like even Tim, who overthinks every aspect of his life constantly, and is balancing a double life for years, probably doesn't think about his parents as much as she does.

Only Damian has lost less parents than her, and he's managed to gain fewer.

Baffling decision.

PS. Tim, who has been orphaned 3 times over in the preboot, and at least one more time in the reboot, should really steal Cass' nu52 name. Maybe give her a turn as Robin.
