Warning: Long post about something very near my heart.
About three inches from it, give or take.
Tumblr, meet Cancer-Bob. (Bob, this is Tumblr. Theyā€™re lovely, but theyā€™re gonna hate you.)
I got diagnosed with Bob about six weeks ago. (Itā€™s fine, Iā€™m not gonna die, Iā€™m just gonna have a really shitty few months.) As is the way of my people, I started doing a comic about it. Except itā€™s not really a comic, because thereā€™s only one picture in it, but itā€™s more a comic than it is anything else. A comic made entirely of words, I guess?
Itā€™s mostly me screwing around with Typorama and word balloons and the alcohol ink tools in Procreate. I knew that if I had to draw hamsters or wombats, Iā€™d never keep up. My energy levels are, uh, variable. But itā€™ll tell you the saga, or at least some of it, and I got really into making it, and I commit some spectacular atrocities with fonts.
(Itā€™s ok to laugh, by the way. Some of itā€™s hilarious.)
(Also Iā€™m very sorry, I canā€™t do alt text for all these. If someone wants to type them out, I will embrace you as a savior, but itā€™s justā€¦a lot.)

This is only part one of rather a lot, but Tumblr has a 10 image limit from the app. Iā€™ll put up more tomorrow. And I only just started chemo in real life, so thereā€™ll be more. And then, if fate is kind, someday there wonā€™t have to be.
I love you all, you know that?

What is the difference between twitter and tumblr
there's a lot of differences between them, from community to functionality. we'd be here all week if i listed every single one, so i'm just gonna name a few: 1. the community on tumblr is a lot more chill than the one on twitter. tumblr users HIGHLY encourage curating your own experience, it's basically impossible to be on tumblr for a while without seeing at least one post encouraging you to unfollow/block people you dont vibe with, not respond to hateful asks and block mean anons, and filter tags you dont like. this isn't to say that other apps don't do the same thing, but in my experience, tumblr users are far more vocal about it. it's very ingrained in the app's culture as a whole. linking this back to the SC fandom real quick: I've only been faced with one drama on tumblr, compared to twitter where it seems like every fucking day some new shit pops up. tumblr-exclusive SC fans are largely unaware of any of the crazy shit that goes on on twitter. i keep saying this to my moots but it is genuinely far more peaceful on here than on twitter. 2. tumblr is also more slow-paced than twitter because the character limit on this app is HUGE (4096 characters per text block, and tumblr allows a total of 1000 content blocks per post, meaning that if you use every content block you have exclusively for text, the total character limit is 4,096,000 characters per post. thats like 630154 - 819200 words !! also, reblogs count as their own post, and you can reblog a post a near infinite number of times (ignoring the 250 post limit a day.)), which i think is part of the reason why this app is more chill. it's less stressful, it feels like you can take your time on here. this isn't mentioning that you can attach up to 10 images to a post, making tumblr a better app for both writers and artists compared to twitter. the more you stay on this app, the more you notice that a lot of posts are very long. 3. i've said this on another post of mine (which i really recommend reading if you have the time because i talk a lot about the importance of reblogging posts on tumblr, among other things), but I'll say it here again: while the community on tumblr is more chill, it's also very quiet. a lot of tumblr users have become very passive in their engagement with posts, only liking and never reblogging. in my personal experience, i've found that you get far more engagement and reach on twitter than on tumblr (emphasis on personal experience, because a few of my friends have told me that they actually get more interaction on tumblr than on twitter.) in short: twitter is where you go to get famous, tumblr is where you go to hang out with friends. 4. this point came from my friend @buggyboo-exe, he said: "I'd add the fact that Tumblr allows for more, how do I say, personal interaction? On Twitter sure, you can follow people and see just your follower's posts and everything but Tumblr not only has the ask box, it also gives you the feature to answer those asks privately. I think it's just easier to make friends on Tumblr and actually keep those friends long term than on Twitter. Likely due to the slow paced thing as well. I'm not sure how to explain it better. Tumblr also started the whole "moots" thing I believe so followers are always seen more as friends then anywhere else." I think this point is very solid because, yes, although I think twitter is better in terms of quantity of engagement, tumblr allows for deeper, more personal interaction. a lot of my closest friends on this fandom are ones I've made on tumblr. I feel way more comfortable goofing around and being silly with them publicly on here than on twitter.
5. this is something I wanted to add to the post i linked in point 3 but forgot to, and that is that tumblr is more or less timeless. it's very, very, VERY common to come across posts from as far back as 15 years ago. you basically never see twitter posts ever again if they weren't made this year, but on tumblr? it's not unusual to see a post from 2015 circulating. it's not weird to reblog art or writing from months or years ago. it's also not weird to go through an artist's blog and just reblog/like all their posts in one sitting. (also, reblogging a post means you get to keep a copy of it on your blog forever. meaning that even if a user deletes their blog, or deletes the post itself, as long as you've reblogged it it's never truly gone. reblog your favorite posts if you wanna keep them with you forever!!) 6. tumblr users REALLY stress anonymity. one of the first things i told my twitter mutuals was to PRIVATE YOUR LIKES AND FOLLOWING TABS !! no one wants or needs to see that stuff. this is your personal blog, you're allowed to and even encouraged to keep things about yourself private. it is usually extremely easy to tell who is and isnt a tumblr user, because twitter users tend to: have their likes and following visible, don't have a blog title, dont have a personal blog theme, and only like posts with little to no reblogs.
I'll cut myself off here because this post is getting very long, but yeah, there's a LOTTTT of differences. i hope this answered your question !! and to anyone reading this, feel free to ask me if you have any other questions about being on tumblr. I know a lot of you are new here and i LOVE to yap, so i'd be happy to answer !!

Question is the legacy editor any good? I've never used it because I'm paranoid about it messing my posts up lmao but I'm curious
The short answer is yes. Legacy editor, the older way tumblr did posting, is in my opinion, the superior editor. I love the legacy editor. A lot. It is definitely superior and I'm sad staff has decided to slowly get rid of it.
However! With that said I've been pretty much exclusively using the beta post editor for the last like year when staff announced that they'd be eliminating the legacy editor eventually so I thought it'd be a good idea to get used to the beta editor. Which I suppose I did. I've gotten used to it and don't use legacy much at all anymore. I also wanted to use it because I got really tired of not being able to edit in mobile the posts I made on web using the legacy editor. With the beta editor you can edit across platforms which is soooo nice. (although it appears that in one of the apps many updates I can now edit a gifset I made today via legacy editor but not the posts I've made in the past using the legacy editor so who knows what's going with that).
But there's a lot of annoying things about the new beta editor that make it inferior to the legacy editor and I'm praying that staff will improve it. For starters, and probably my biggest complaint, is how awful it is to upload and rearrange images. It's so much easier in legacy editor to move images around. In beta the page moves when you start to move the image and it drives me CRAZY!!! I always end up putting the image in the wrong place because the page won't stop moving! Legacy is wonderful to arrange images. I do think the upload is slightly better in beta purely because it uploads multiple images in the order I select them where the legacy just puts them in whatever order it wants to and I have to remember what order I wanted my gifs in.
Legacy is also better because it actually differentiates between an image post and a text post. With the beta editor everything is technically a test post. So my gifsets are not considered an "image post". Some people have noted that the beta, since it's not an image post, it resizes the images a little and sometimes decreases the quality of the gif by doing that. I haven't really noticed that myself with my own gifs but doesn't mean it isnt happening.
The legacy editor also allows me to upload my gifs without stupid errors for no reason. Lately any time I upload more than 6 gifs at once I get an error message and have to upload them one by one. Its not because of size because they're always under 7mbs so I don't know why I can't upload them all at once. I hate it actually. And sometimes my gif will be under 10mbs (like 9.7mbs) and it'll tell me that the gif is too big. Excuse me tumblr but 9.7 is smaller than 10! I never had this problem in legacy.
The legacy editor is also better when it comes to using html, inserting links as text and not the stupid thing beta does where you paste the link and it becomes that stupid post preview thing that I hate, and oh my god is it awful for text blocks! When it first came out you couldnt select multiple texts blocks at all. You can now but it isn't the easiest. And it like expands when you do and makes it weird. Idk it's hard to describe. In legacy you can just...select all the text with no problems. Text blocks are treated like individual sections in the beta and make editing a major pain in the ass.
I also don't like thst apparently new xkit won't work in beta and you have to use xkit rewritten because fuck I don't want to learn how to use that one when I've been using new xkit for years but I guess I'm gonna have to now. I haven't been having any problems with xkit yet but who knows....
So yeah I think overall legacy is better. Beta Post Editor has some good things (I like the increased image upload limit, the editing tags is good) about it but there's so many problems. Unfortunately we're stuck with it so I've been sticking to using it exclusively to make the transition easier on myself. I do suggest becoming used to how it works and to just continue to provide feedback to staff about features we dislike or bugs we come across. Hopefully they'll listen and improve it.

I do a lot of the above currently, and I've done the rest (and more) previously.
I do traditional all the time, and that was the one I started with. Probably my favorite medium to work in.
I use all kinds of mediums in that too. I started with just an HB pencil, of course. But then that turned into all kinds of graphite, and that progressed into a brief charcoal phase (which I dropped and baven't touched because got damn that's a messy medium to work in), then I did Prismacolor colored pencils, then Copic Markers, then I tried watercolors, then acrylics, and now oils. I've done all kinds of other smaller things in other mediums, and not all of my previous phases have been fully dropped. I experiment and mix mediums a LOT. Copics are still my medium of choice when looking to draw something and color it, and I'll usually start with a pencil sketch, use a Gellyroll to line it, then use Copics to color, and then sometimes use Prismacolors for added depth and throw on some highlights with a Uniball. It's ridiculously fun to throw shit around and just... have fun with it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Acrylic photo study | watercolor 'brellyfish' | pens and markers on my hand | Copics, Prismacolors, and pens | pencil doodle on an assignment
I have a nice screen tablet currently (and also use screen tablets in my animation class). My old tracking tablet broke.
I'm still really sad about that tracking tablet. That thing held strong for seven years!
When I draw with a finger on my phone, I usually do a sketch traditionally, then take a picture of it and bring it in as a base. Sometimes I'll do lineart traditionally and use the 'convert to lineart' feature on the apps I use. I'm actually getting a lot better at working on a phone!
Tumblr media
Lineart scanned in from a traditional doodle, the rest done in MediBang on my phone. This actually isn't done yet.
And yes, when I was first starting out digitally, I used a mouse/trackpad. I actually made a full animation back then. In MSpaint.
Tumblr media
Tumblr wouldn't let me upload videos, and the only way I could get this here was by making it a gif... which is extremely limited. But it's whatever. Enjoy the animation I made for an old Scratch project.
I used MSpaint until a year or two after getting my tracking tablet. Then I found FireAlpaca, and used that for a LONG time. Then that progressed to Clip Studio Paint, which I started using about a year or two ago.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Modern MSpaint drawing juxtaposed with a modern CSP drawing. Both WIPs that I need to finish.
In class, I use Photoshop, Adobe Animate (fucking hate Adobe though. Piece of shit company with unnecessarily complex toolbars/mechanics), and Toon Boom (Harmony and Storyboard). We were supposed to use Maya this year too, but we unfortunately didn't have enough time to get to it.
Tumblr media
Toon Boom Harmony animation... that I also still need to finish lmao
On my phone, I started with IbisPaint, and now use MediBang.
This has become an art dump of a post, and honestly I so love it lmao. Y'all get to see some more of my art! Plus some really old shit! I'd share more if Tumblr didn't limit images to 10. Maybe another art dump will come in the future šŸ‘

xKit Rewritten Help - Masterpost
So since I saw quite a few people reblogging my other PSA about xKit, I thought I'd put together a short, concise version that goes into a little more detail about how it works and how to go about things. I have converted these into 3 separate posts as I was using a lot of images in the process, and Tumblr has a limit of 10. *sad noises.*
PART 1: INSTALLATION PART 2: CONFIGURING PART 3: EDITABLE REBLOGS
A few things to take away from this, if you're used to the old xKit, are the following:
It preserves the new Tumblr reblog format, rather than reverting to the old one (known as legacy posts).
It's more stable, and generally won't cause funky errors because it's recoded for the new editor (currently the "beta" editor--but it's actually the same as the mobile app editor)
It purportedly works on Android mobile devices (unconfirmed--I don't own an Android device, so I can't confirm this personally, but if someone could confirm that it works or do a dumbed-down version of getting it to work, that would be great!)
There's less of a margin of error when cutting your posts. There's no weird messy images and no actual alteration of the formatting on your partner's posts, so you're not at the mercy of their images looking funky or causing issues with formatting.
Tumblr's legacy editor isn't going to be staying. There's no real issues with the beta editor, not from a general usage perspective, and honestly, using updated code is better from a web designer standpoint.
A lot of this info can be found on the xKit Wiki, but not everyone wants to visit GitHub to do that, so I've compiled some key features here that I've found are most useful.
This guide is useful for both old xkit users and new xkit users. Two months ago, I hadn't the faintest clue what xKit was. I started with the old one. I hated it. The new one is much better.
"But I like the old xKit better for (insert reasons)!" - Yeah, but it's buggy. Did you like VHS? Did you like sitting there and rewinding every goddamn time you forgot to rewind the last time you watched a movie? Do you like the fact that you could never, in your life, fit your music library on a floppy disk? No. It's a waste of time. Why are you wasting your time using something buggy? Why are you causing yourself undue stress using a buggy addon that's okay at best? Stop that! Don't create little stressors for yourself.

Batgirls #14 review...
Disclaimer: this is basically a review I did on dead app (Amino) for Batgirls #14 because yes I have an audience there surprisingly, but I'm copy and pasting it here to see if people like my reviews idk.
...
Hey hey everyone, so as you know it's Cassandra's birthday, and what better to do than review a rather recent comic that came out that's all about her?
I will start this by preferencing that I haven't gotten through all of my Batgirls reviews on here yet, you all know I've really only given you my reviews of the first two issues.
It's safe to say that the book has had its fair share of controversy from time to time, as you all know from my previous blog on my problems with the series:
Though I will say that the recent issues of it have been pretty decent all around.
Not that I hated the first few issues (aside from 7 and 8, but that's a whole other can of worms to open), but I have a feeling that the book has finally found its footing as of late and is actually doing more of what I had expected from it.
And issue #14 has to be a pretty exceptional issue in my personal opinion, this issue is definitely the best one in the series so far and is probably one of the best Cass stories I have ever read. (Or seen? Idk, it's a silent issue for the most part, lol.)
And that's certainly saying something.
Now this is a silent issue, so it has no dialogue (at least not until the end but you'll see what that's all about...), meaning that the visuals are what make the issue, and well it's safe to say they got that right.
The main artist they got for this particular issue is Jonathan Case and his art is just really spectacular.
A problem with Batgirls is it does have a hard time tying down an artist, at least ever since Jorge Corona left the series, but I've never had a problem with the other artists on the series, though they had slight imperfections that would bug me even if nitpicky.
Like Neil Googe draws Cass and Steph a little bit younger than they're supposed to be and Robbi Rodriguez's movements for the characters are often too stiff for my liking.
But Case gets everything right.
Cass is drawn looking her age and the actions she takes are conveyed perfectly.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I mean what can I say the art is just gorgeous throughout the entire issue, I really hope Jonathan Case comes back to do another issue of Batgirls after this because they're just great.
Tumblr media
Now the plot of the issue is pretty easy to explain, Cassandra is basically looking for Steph who had been kidnapped by her father in the prior issues of the series.
(This entire issue reminded me a LOT of Cassandra's stories that happened during the War Games saga, I actually plan on writing another review today on a particular comic that came out during that time.)
Cass at a point opens the letter that Steph leaves her to either see if it has a clue, or because at that point she thinks it's too late, but the letter contains a rather shocking confession
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
You are reading that right, Stephanie Brown quite literally admitted she has feelings for Cass.
And seeing how Cass reacted, it's possible she might return those feelings back.
Now I'm not sure if this confirms StephCass, we'll have to wait and see what happens in the upcoming issues, but yeah I hope this means what I think it means.
Now, of course I can't close out this review without mentioning the special appearance from Cassandra's dear mommy.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yeah you had to see the full sequence because it's just šŸ˜.
(Tumblr's image limit unfortunately prevented me from actually showing the full thing. šŸ˜)
But yeah, all in all this is a REALLY good issue of Batgirls and I definitely recommend people pick it up even if you've had problems with the series.
It's just a passionate love letter to the character of Cassandra imo, and tbh I think this story will be remembered as one of her best for quite some time.
So, an obvious 10/10 from me. :)
Well, I hope you all enjoyed this review of Batgirls #14 from me!
As always stay tuned! Same bat-time, same bat-channel!

Oooh wait! I have more tips for you I'm back again!
This post has useful slang that might not have reached your awareness before! They'll make understanding things easier!
You did a good job setting a profile picture right off the bat, but it's usually good to also set a header image too! If you're on the mobile app, it's a little painter's palette icon, and if you're on the site, it should be in account settings iirc!
In account settings you'll also find toggles to enable sending asks and submitting posts. Most casual blogs like your blog and my main don't get much mileage out of submissions, but asks are a huge part of tumblr culture! You can leave anonymous asks off, which means you're much less likely to get hate mail [already unlikely with only a few followers] but you might scare off anyone who's shy. It's a trade-off!
Post limit is 250, it resets when it hits midnight at tumblr hq. Mobile has a link/image per post limit of 10, the site has a link/image per post limit of 30.
Like I said before, block people who bug you. If you get follows from blank blogs [1 or 2 posts with no pfp] that's a bot. Sometimes it's a porn bot. Everyone hates them, the expected response is to block and move on. Tumblr hates bots in general, but not @the-haiku-bot . Everyone loves haiku bot.
I forgot if you put your pronouns in your blog description, but if you didn't, probably do that!
It's late so I can't think of other stuff to tell you, but you can send me an ask, reblog this from me so I get the notification, tag me in a post with a question, etc. if you want more info. I wish you luck in your adaptation to Tumblr, most of us don't bite
Tumblr media
Hi app I see in tiktok text to speech videos, itā€™s weird to think Iā€™m on here now, huh. Anyway iā€™m a tiktok refugee (after escaping the hell which is IG Reels) so Iā€™m gonna try to not gentrify this app and mostly scroll because I donā€™t know if this site can take both a flood of twitter refugees and now tiktok refugees. I want to make one post so this is my contribution, a 35mm film photo I took of the CTA! I hope every one of you all has an amazing day and I hope you all enjoy :)

Hereā€™s the link! A few things, though, since this is a hot topic:
Please discuss your thoughts and opinions HERE, by reblogging and replying toĀ THIS POST.Ā (Like, here here. The post youā€™re reading right now.) You canā€™t really interact on the page itself. If you have a question to ask me directly, the inbox will be open, but I donā€™t want to play the middle man for anonymous commentary through my inbox.
I will not moderate your replies unless they contain threats and/or hate speech.
I will likely be updating this constantly over the next day or so. Things are still happening.
This post is best viewed on desktop and is NOT Tumblr App friendly. Please copy/paste the raw link into your mobile browser if you prefer reading it on your phone, but be aware that images may be stretched.Ā  https://shefightslikeagirl.tumblr.com/instagramincident
Enjoy! Let me know what you think!
EDIT 10/17/2020 21:30 EA and Marc were featured in a Sinister Cyber Con interview that was streamed lived across multiple platforms. The chats were flooded with comments asking about BLM and her NAACP donation. The issue was not addressed and some commenters had their posts deleted (likely by Cyber Con staff, not EA and co.).Ā Ā
Read more to see past edits.
EDIT 9/3/2020 21:20 Just after I thought I was done, EA re-opened comments on her Instagram. Striped Stocking Society is still effectively closed, but there is active discussion happening in her Instagram comments.
EDIT 9/1/2020 18:20 EST An update that doesnā€™t contain any updates. As of September 1, 2020, all comments remain either closed or moderated on EAā€™s accounts and the Striped Stocking Society is effectively inactive.
EDIT 6/29/2020 21:20 EST Fixed some screencaps that didnā€™t have names blocked out after someone mentioned it to me. Thank you for keeping me in check!Ā
Ā EDIT 6/24/2020, 20:25 EST Another comment section has been turned off. More responses from Instagram Influencers/Platforms.
EDIT 6/22/2020, 19:02EST Added section: Instagram Influencers Respond. Also did some spell-checking.Ā
Ā EDIT 6/21/2020, 15:20 EST Some minor edits. Updated to include new responses from podcasters, myself, and Violet. Striped Stocking Society Update.
EDIT 6/20/2020, 12:37 EST Updated with a new section on the fan responses across socials. More screenshots added into earlier sections. Violet Vixanneā€™s opinions. EA closed her YouTube comments. Twitter is still the wild west. The WVC reopened.Ā
Ā EDIT 6/19/2020, 23:15 EST Was able to get the video of the deleted comments embedded. Some other minor edits happened as well. I encourage you to watch the video in its entirety. (Note: This was not made by me.)Ā
Ā EDIT 6/19/2020, 20:10 EST More updates. People are getting blocked from the SSS, most comments are shut down and/or heavily moderated. Some clarification on the p*rnbot claim. Maggot has apparently promised she will speak to Emilie in a private DM.
Iā€™m taking a break for a bit.
EDIT 6/19/2020, 18:34 EST Iā€™ve pinned this post and will continue to post updates on here so I donā€™t spam people with individual update posts.
Emilie has limited her comments on Instagram indefinitely and deleted all comments on her last statement.
QUICK EDIT This post is NOT Tumblr App friendly. Open the page in your mobile browser! The raw link is https://shefightslikeagirl.tumblr.com/instagramincident

tumblr + not showing up in the tags
i donā€™t know who still relies on the tagging system to either (a) get their work out to the relevant and interested groups of fans or (b) simply look for relevant content involving ships, but the tagging system has been absolute garbage the past few months.
Tumblr isā€”or appears to beā€”arbitrarily screening content that is tagged. I tried to do some trial and error over the past few weeks to assess what it is exactly, but i stand by saying itā€™s arbitrary because things only work *sometimes* and fixing and reposting edits or text posts sometimes doesnā€™t do anything.
here are some potential things that might influence whether you show up in the tag based on personal experience, stories from friends, and some other things iā€™ve been noticing:
posting from desktop? sometimes tumblr doesnā€™t like it if you respond to an ask or make a text post that includes a photo of any size, but iā€™ve noticed that if you repost from the tumblr mobile app, including posting an image from your phoneā€™s camera roll, it usually works
responding to an ask in general? sometimes tumblr doesnā€™t like that
posting gifs? sometimes tumblr doesnā€™t like it when you post gifs above 6mb in size, sometimes 5mb in size, who knows...even if they upped their gif limit, the website still screens and might stop your post from showing up in the tag
posting fic? sometimes if the text is too long and not under a read more, tumblr will screen it from the tag
posting a link to a fic? tumblr has been arbitrarily screening external links including links to AO3
posting too many tags? tumblr might not let you show up in any of the tags. aĀ ā€œsafeā€ zone is under ten (10) tags
posting a "safeā€ amount of tags? sometimes tumblr screens the very first tag you use for no reason and i donā€™t even know what this is but itā€™s ANNOYING
at this point, these are just things that have severely impacted me and my enjoyment of tumblr both as a consumer and content creator. iā€™ve gone back to my usual way of just consuming things as they come onto my timeline (on desktop because i hate the mobile app) and checking out content creator blogs semi-regularly because i donā€™t want to miss things from the people i follow. in any case, if you enjoy the work a content creator puts out, please consider reblogging for visibility and support.
itā€™s also worthwhile to note that this likely isnā€™t limited to just fandom stuff...the implications that tumblr could potentially arbitrarily screen important and useful information in terms of education, activism, and charity is just...maddening. i hope @staff andĀ @support take into account that Tumblr continues to become nearly unusable with each passing day.

Note
ngl asking for people who self-identify as "antis" is already biasing your results because the term originated from fans being defensive over getting called out (eg the types who sincerely think fandom culture is ""puritan""). fair number of people started to use the term ironically and it might be evening out but overall the post calling for responses on the survey still comes off as something written in bad faith?
I wrote a rather long and involved response and then tumblr ate it. Goshdarn.
Fair warning, this is a hyperfixation and Iā€™m coming off of a migraine so this may not be very cogent. Please read this in the over excited tones of someone infodumping about emulsifiers, with no animosity intended.
So, tl;dr and with a lot fewer links, Iā€™m incredibly interested by your perspective thatĀ ā€œantiā€ originated as a derogatory term.
As far as I am aware, the etymological history of the word ā€œantiā€ being used pejoratively is coming from some very new debates.
Iā€™m also noting that you had no feedback regarding the content of the questions themselves, which I would be interested in hearing as I am genuinely coming from a place without censure.
The term ā€œantiā€ actually is a self-descriptor that arose in the Livejournal days, where youā€™d tag something as ā€œAnti ___ā€ for other like minded people to find. (For example, my cursory google search pulled up 10 Anti Amy Lee communities on LJ).
Iā€™m a self-confessed old. I was back in fandom before Livejournal, aaaall the way back in the Angelfire days. Webrings children! We had webrings! And guest books for you to sign!
Iā€™m going to take a swing for the fences here Anon, so if Iā€™m wrong please let me know, but Iā€™m going to guess you became active as a fan in the past 5-8 years based of your use of the term puritan.
Thereā€™s actually a HUGELY new debate in fandom spaces! Previously, it was assumed that:
a) All fandom spaces are created and used by adults only.
b) If you were seeing something, itā€™s because you dug for it.
These assumptions were predicated upon what spaces fandoms grew in. First you had Star Trek TOS fandom, which grew in 1970s housewives kitchens. They were all friends irl, and everyone was an adult, and you actively had to reach out to other adults to talk about things. (By the way- a woman lost custody of her children in the divorce when her ex husband brought up to the judge she kept a Kirk/Spock zine under her bed. The judge ruled this as obvious signs of moral deficiency. That was in the 80s! Everyone is still alive and the parents are younger than my coworkers!)
Time: 1967-1980s. Is Anti a term? No. Who is the term used by? N/A Is fandom space considered Puritanical? No.
Then, when the internet came about, it was almost exclusively used by adults until The Eternal September. 1993 was the year that changed the internet for good, but even years after that the internet was a majority adult space. Most kids and teens didnā€™t have unlimited access if their parents even had a home computer in the 90s.
This is the rise of Angelfire, which were fansites all connected to each other in ā€œringsā€. You had to hunt for content. If you found something you didnā€™t like, well, you clicked out and went on with your day because youā€™d never see it again unless you really dug. This was truly the wild west, tagging did not exist and you could go from fluff to vore in the blink of an eye with nothing warning you before hand. All fannish spaces were marked ā€œhere be dragonsā€ and attempts were made to at least adopt the ā€œR/NC-17ā€³ ratings on works to some limited success, depending on webmaster.
Time: 1990-1999. Is Anti a term? No. Who is the term used by? N/A Is fandom space considered Puritanical? No.
In 1999 LiveJournal arose like a leviathan, and here is where the term Anti emerges as a self descriptor. Larger communities began to form, and with them, divisions. Now, you could reach so many fans you could reach a critical mass of them for enough of them to dislike a ship. The phrase ā€œAntiā€ became a self-used tag, as people tagged their works, communities, and blogs with ā€œantiā€ (NB: this is at far, far smaller rates than today). Anti was first and foremost a tagging tool used and created by the people who were vehemently against something.
You could find content more easily than in the past, but you still had to put some serious elbow grease into it.
In 2007, Livejournal bans users for art "depicting minors in explicit sexual situationsā€. The Livejournal community explodes in anger- towards Livejournal staff. The account holders/fans view this as corporate puritanical meddling. The outrage continues as it is revealed these bans were part of a pre-sale operation to SUP Services. SUP Services, upon taking over Livejournal in 2008, proceeds to filter the topicsĀ ā€œbisexuality, depression, faeries, girls, boys, and fanfictionā€.
The Great LiveJournal Migration begins, as fans leave the site in droves.
Time: 1999-2009. Is Anti a term? Yes. Who is the term used by? People self describing, seeking to create communities based off a dislike of something. Is fandom space considered Puritanical? No.
Where do fans go? Well, in the last decade, they migrated to Tumblr and Twitter (sorry Pillowfort- you gave it a good try!)
Whatā€™s different about all of these sites? Individuals are able to create and access content streams. These are hugely impactful in how communities are formed! Because now:
a) finding content is easier
b) finding content you dislike by accident is easier
c) content you dislike requires active curation to avoid
d) truly anonymous outreach is possible and easy (for example, you anon! Isnā€™t it much easier to go on anon to bring up awkward or sensitive topics? Iā€™m happy you did by the way, and thatā€™s why I keep my anons open. Itā€™s an important contextual tool in the online communications world!)
Now the term Anti gets sprightly. Previously, if you didnā€™t like content, there was nothing you could really do about it. For example, I, at the tender age of way-too-young, opened up a page of my favorite Star Trek Deep Space 9 fansite and pixel by pixel with all the loading speed of a stoned turtle a very anatomically incorrect orgy appeared.
I backed out.
1. Who could I contact? There was no ā€œmessage me hereā€ button, no way to summon any mods on Angelfire sites.
2. If I did manage to find a contact button, I would have had to admit I went onto a site that wasnā€™t designed to keep me safe. I knew this was a site for adults, I knew there wasnā€™t a way to stop it from showing something. There was no such thing as tags. I knew all of this before going in. So the assumption was, it was on me for looking. (Some may have argued it was on my parents for not supervising me- all I can say is thank GOD no one else was in the living room and my mom was around the corner in the kitchen.)
But now? On Tumblr? On Twitter? In a decade in which tagging is so easy and ubiquitous itā€™s expected?
Now people who describe themselves as antis start to have actual tools and social conventions to utilize.
Which leads to immediate backlash! Content creators are confused and upset- fandom spaces have been the wild west for decades, and thereā€™s still no sherriff in town. So the immediate go-to argument is that these people who are messaging them are ā€œpuritansā€.
And thatā€™s actually an interesting argument! A huge factor in shaping the internetā€™s social mores in the latest decades is cleanliness for stockbrokers. Websites can become toxic to investors and to sales if they contain sexual content. Over time, corporations perfected a mechanism for ā€œcleaningā€ a site for sale.
Please note there is no personal opinion or judgement in this next list, it is simply a description of corporate strategies you can read during the minute meetings of shareholders for Tumblr, Twitter, Paypal, Venmo, Facebook, Myspace, Yahoo Answers, and Livejournal.
1. Remove sex workers. Ban any sex work of any kind, deplatform, keep any money you may have been holding.
2. Remove pedophilia. This is where the jump begins between content depicting real people vs content depicting fictional characters begins.
3. Remove all sexual image content, including artwork of fictional characters.
4. Remove all sexual content, including written works. If needed, loop back to step 2 as a justification, and claim you do not have the moderators to prevent written works depicting children.
I would like to reiterate these are actual gameplans, so much so that theyā€™ve made their way into business textbooks. (Or at least they did for my Modern Marketing & App Design classes back in the early 2010s. Venmo, of course, wasnā€™t mentioned, but I did read the shareholderā€™s speeches when they banned sex workers from the platform so I added them in the list above because it seems theyā€™re following the same pattern.)
So you have two groups who are actively seeking to remove NSFW content from the site.
A) Corporate shareholders
B) People are upset theyā€™re seeing NSFW content they didnā€™t seek out and squicks them
Now, why does this matter for the debates using the term ā€œpuritanā€ as an insult?Ā
Because the reasons corporate shareholders hate NSFW material is founded in American puritanism. Itā€™s a really interesting conflation of private sector values! And if Wall Street were in another cultural context, it would be a completely different discussion which I find fascinating!
But hereā€™s the rub- that second group? They're not doing this for money. If there are any puritanical drives, itā€™s personal, not a widespread cohesive ideology driving them. HOWEVER! The section of that group that spent the early 2010s on tumblr did pick up some of the same rhetoric as puritanical talking points (which is an entirely separate discussion involving radfems, 4chan raids, fourth wave feminism, and a huge very nuanced set of influences I would love to talk about at a later time!)
These are largely fans who have ā€œgrown upā€ in the modern sites- no matter how old they actually are, their fandom habits and expectations have been shaped by the algorithms of these modern sites.
Now HEREā€˜s the fascinating bit thatā€™s new to me! This is the interpretation of the data Iā€™m getting, and so Iā€™m out on a limb but I think this is a valid premise!
The major conflict in fandom at this time is a struggle over personal space online.
Content creators are getting messages telling them to stop, degrading them, following them from platform to platform.
They say ā€œHey! What gives- we were here first. The cardinal rule of fandom is donā€™t like, donā€™t read. Fandom space has always been understood to be adult- itā€™s been this way for decades! To find our content, you had to come to us! This is our space! This is my space, this is my blog! If you donā€™t like it, youā€™re not obligated to look!ā€
Meanwhile, at the exact same time, antis are saying ā€œHey! What gives- this content is appearing on my screen! Thatā€™s my space!Ā  I didnā€™t agree to this, I donā€™t like this! I want it to be as far away from me as possible! I will actively drive it away.ā€
This is a major cultural shift! This is a huge change and a huge source of friction! And I directly credit it to the concept of ā€œcontent streamā€ and algorithms driving similar-content to users despite them not wanting it!
Curating your online space used to be much simpler, because there wasnā€™t much of it! Now with millions of users spread out over a wide age range, all feeding in to the same 4-5 websites, we are seeing people be cramped in a technically limitless space!
Now people feel that they have to go on the offense to defend themselves against content they donā€™t like, which is predicated upon not only the algorithms of modern websites but ALSO talking points fed from the top down of what is and what is not acceptable on various platforms.
Time: 2010-2020. Is Anti a term? Yes. Who is the term used by? People self describing, and people using it to describe others. Is fandom space considered Puritanical? Depends!
So I, a fandom ancient, a creaky thing of old HTML codes and broken tags, am watching this transformation and am wildly curious for data.
Also...I uh....I canā€™t believe this is the short version. My ADHD is how you say ā€œbuckwildā€ tonight.

Anyways...um...if anyone has read to the bottom, give me data?

The Toonami Trending Rundown for May 18-19, 2019. Itā€™s the calm after the memorable events last week and the calm before the storm of Attack on Titanā€™s return, as All Might is forced to retire as a superhero due to his ailing injuries, while Hayato lives through ā€œGroundhog Dayā€ as he tries to outmaneuver Kiraā€™s upgraded stand, and Kirito and Eugeo attempt to capture and un-brainwash Alice, among other great moments.
On Twitter, Toonami would trend in the US alongside The Promised Neverland, Sword Art Online JoJoā€™s Bizarre Adventure, and Hunter x Hunter. Black Clover, Boruto, and Shippuden would trend alongside these shows, but didnā€™t reach the top 30 trends outright. In addition, both SAO and JoJoā€™s also produced character trends with Kirito and Hayato respectively.
On tumblr, #Toonami would trend alongside The Promised Neverland and #JJBA. The full list including statistics and tweet counts from the twitter app and Amr Rahmyā€™s Fan Screening analytics app can be seen below.

On that same note, Aniplex and Bang Zoom were also doing a talent search at Anime Central last week as they offered a future role in Sword Art Online to the prospective voice actor that impressed the judges the most. The winner of the open audition competition was Ryan Michael Burch.
Funimation will be releasing a limited edition set of Attack on Titan Season 3 Part 1 this upcoming August, which will include all 12 episodes including 130 minutes of special features and commentary and a 2 panel digibook and 4-koma comic. The set can be preordered from Funimationā€™s site for $63.74.
Crunchyroll has released a new key visual for the newest arc of Black Clover, which just begun in the sub this week. We still got 32 weeks before we reach that point, so if you want to check it out, click here.

Next week, Toonami will be starting a half an hour earlier as My Hero Academia will start the block again at 10:30 pm ET and Attack on Titan will shift up to 11:30 pm to begin the 2nd half of Season 3. Every other show will continue airing in their regular scheduled timeslots for at least the next 3 weeks, as weā€™re coming down the final stretch with Diamond is Unbreakable.
In addition, Momocon is this weekend, and Toonami will be hosting a panel on Friday, so we might be seeing some news regarding Toonami this week. I wonā€™t be there, but Paul and other members of the TF staff will be there to get you the insights of the events and breaking news that occur.
Until next week, stay gold as always.

RECENT NEWS, RESOURCES & STUDIES, June 2019
Tumblr media
Welcome to my latest summary of recent news, resources & studies including search, analytics, content marketing, social media & ecommerce! This covers articles I came across from May 31 to June 21, although some may be older than that.
(Unfortunately, a few of this editionā€™s entries were lost somehow, & I could only remember one of the missing, so if you know of an article/post that should be included, please let me know, & the piece will be added here as well as to the next post.)
My busy few months are now mostly over, so I will have more time to get working on this Tumblr, new blog posts & the new forum I want to start; expect more frequent updates starting in July.Ā
TOP NEWS & ARTICLESĀ
Shopify is going to run fulfillment centres for its US customers within the next 2 years.Ā ā€œRight now Shopify will offer early access for merchants who ship between 10 and 10,000 items per day, and by the end of the year the company aims to offer two-day shipping to 99 per cent of the United States.ā€ They announced other plans at the same time, including better shop tools.Ā
If you have your own website, conversion rate optimization is something you should be looking at. Why? BecauseĀ ā€œ[a] simple tweak on a landing page can double or even 10x that pageā€™s conversion rateā€ which can be much easier to do than doubling your traffic. [Note that this is not a short article; itā€™s a full guide.]
Matching searcher intent is a crucial part of great rankings. This long article tells you pretty much everything you need to know on making that happen with your content, with real examples for their site.Ā
Mary MeekerĀ released her annual internet trends report; shorter summary here.Ā ā€œIf you're looking to connect with the next generation, you should be maintaining at least some awareness of gaming culture, which is where attention is increasingly shifting.ā€Ā ā€œSome 51 percent of the world ā€” 3.8 billion people ā€” were internet users last year, up from 49 percent (3.6 billion) in 2017...E-commerce is now 15 percent of retail sales. Its growth has slowed ā€” up 12.4 percent in Q1 compared with a year earlier ā€” but still towers over growth in regular retail, which was just 2 percent in Q1...Customer acquisition costs ā€” the marketing spending necessary to attract each new customer ā€” is going up.
ETSY NEWS
Etsy retired several of its Support/Help email addresses, including [email protected], all without any official announcement.Ā
You can now link photos to variations - but only with one variation, not both.Ā
Etsyā€™s annual report for 2018 is out; I didnā€™t see much new here, but if you catch something, please leave a comment or send me an email so I can add it to this summary. [They actually mentioned ā€œabilitiesā€ in their list of things they accept diverse ranges of, but as usual, they only give any details about gender, race/ethnicity and sexual orientation. Disability is invisible for them.]
A new bunch of US states will have state taxes charged for online sales as of July 1.Ā
Ryan Scott will be Etsyā€™s new Chief Marketing Officer as of June 24.Ā
SEO: GOOGLE & OTHER SEARCH ENGINES
Google broke with tradition & decided to warn SEOs about the core search algorithm update that started rolling out on Monday June 3Ā and ended on the 8th.Ā There are multiple reports of some UK news companies taking a hard hit while others picked up visibility. Itā€™s still too early for much comprehensive analysis, but here is a summary and another more recent one.Ā
At the same time, Google also rolled out an update that increases site diversity in search results, often limiting each website to 2 entries in Googleā€™s top pages. Think of it as Google's approach to ā€œclumpingā€. They insist it is separate from the core algorithm update. Early analysis finds that it didn't change much for most searches.Ā
Websites sometimes rely too much on Google traffic, which is dangerous whenever they change something (i.e., daily). Here are 5 ways to make your site/pages more resistant to algorithm updates.Ā
Most decent SEO tools cost some money to get the full value, but here is a list of 55 free tools including keyword research, stats, linking, and technical tools. (Some have paid versions as well, but just ignore what you donā€™t need.)
SEO sometimes requires stating the obvious; check out this tweet with a graphic from an SEO conference.Ā
Rand Fishkin did a major review of clicks from Google search, & found that nearly 50% of US google searches result in a click (often questions such as weather, or spelling). Only 45% led to clicks on non-paid links, & non-Google companies. ButĀ ļæ½ļæ½for every click on a paid result in Google, there are 11.6 clicks to organic results. SEO is far from dead.ā€ Search Engine Land did a TL;DR (too long; didnā€™t read) summary here.Ā
Fishkin also has some good insights on making a profit through SEO. [video and full transcript] I think the point about having a strong profit margin is really important - it is going to get more expensive to sell online as time goes on. Etsy is not the only provider trying to squeeze more pennies out of its customers. (Fishkinā€™s whole push lately is that you must be a known brand to survive; I am reserving judgement on that for the moment.)
Most blogs havenā€™t done their SEO correctly, but you can fix that. [video & full transcript]
Hate it when your site/business gets mentioned online, but they donā€™t link to you? There are ways to get other companies to link to you.Ā
The latest Google mobile search redesign has folks pitching fits about how ads now look like organic search results. For your own website & other sites where it is possible, make sure you have a favicon that stands out from paid ads. [If you Google ā€œCindyLouWho2ā€³ on mobile, my blue fossil coral avi shows for my website & this Tumblr blog.]
Voice search isnā€™t taking off like people thought it would, although around 30% of Americans use virtual assistants regularly.Ā
Is audio SEO going to be a thing? Dr. Pete looks at Googleā€™s decision to post podcasts in search results.Ā
CONTENT MARKETING & SOCIAL MEDIA (includes blogging & emails)
Facebook announced its move into cryptocurrency with Libra, which will launch in 2020.Ā
Contrary to some reports, it seems that fewer people are using Facebook regularly. While time spent on FB drops, Instagram in particular is seeing more interaction.Ā
Getting the right image sizes and dimensions is really important for each platform; here is an infographic on all image sizes for Facebook.Ā
ā€œ[T]he right time for you to post on Facebook will be different than the right time for someone else to post on Facebook.ā€ A summary of multiple studies on the topic, with tips on using your Facebook Analytics to narrow this down for your business.Ā
After banning mass messaging earlier this year, WhatsApp is prohibiting sending newsletters through the app as of December.Ā
A decent guide on using Twitter for your business.Ā ā€œ...tweets with images get 150% more retweetsā€.
Thinking of running a Twitter chat? Hereā€™s a complete guide, including Hootsuite templates.Ā
You can get new content ideas from Reddit.Ā ā€œReddit.com saw 542 million visitors in March 2019 alone.ā€
Pinterest is expanding its shopping program, now called Pinterest Partners, to provide more shopping opportunities on the site.Ā
A study of the 500 top-followed Pinterest accounts shows that home decor is most popular among influencer topics. [infographic with text.]
Short video platform TikTok is still showing rapid growth.Ā ā€œDigital wellbeing is more important than it has ever been. Since tech companies started optimising for user engagement, the user is unable to escape the app. You will always feel dissatisfied when you close the app, because the notifications keep on coming and the content never seems to end. To us it seems, TikTok has taken this idea to another level and built the user experience to deliberately create addiction.ā€œ
ONLINE ADVERTISING (SEARCH ENGINES, SOCIAL MEDIA, & OTHERS)
Using Google Ads for your website? Make sure you avoid these 7 common mistakes.Ā
Google now allows you to target people who are ā€œregularly in your target locationsā€ - but it doesnā€™t really define how they calculate that.
Instagram Shopping is most popular with younger people (at least in the UK).
Good tips on improving your Amazon ad effectiveness, especially cost-effectiveness.Ā Ā Ā
Some tips on Microsoft Audience ads, and how to get the most out of them. It includes some good general tips, like looking at your profit margin.Ā
Facebook produced an infographic on how to best create FB ads, especially, for mobile.Ā
STATS, DATA, OTHER TRACKING
Google has purchased analytics company Looker; Etsy uses the platform already.Ā
The Google Search Console is now giving users 90 days of dataĀ for some reports.Ā
Hereā€™s a new WordPress plugin that tracks clicks on pdfs on your site through Google Analytics.Ā
ECOMMERCE NEWS, IDEAS, TRENDS
Paypal has developed ā€œa customizable e-commerce platformā€.Ā
Amazon has extended 1-day Prime delivery. Their ability to do that largely depends on how they are taking control of the shipping methods used, moving away from using other big companies.Ā
Amazon closed Spark, its social media competitor, and it redirects to a page of customer-curated collections.Ā
Some Goodwill stores are now selling thrift items on online platform OfferUp.
Opinion article: is feature-driven retail preventing people from buying?
BUSINESS & CONSUMER STUDIES, STATS & REPORTS; SOCIOLOGY & PSYCHOLOGY, CUSTOMER SERVICE
Human brains like stories, which is why you should use them in your marketing.Ā ā€œStories do another thing: They trigger the release of this neurochemical called oxytocin, which is known in some circles as the love drug. About 10 years ago, all we really knew about oxytocin is that itā€™s released when, say, a mother is with her baby. But what weā€™ve discovered since then, through the work of neuroscientists like Dr. Paul Zak, is that stories trigger the release of oxytocin in much the same way.ā€Ā
Sell luxury goods? The market is changing as younger people make up a larger chunk of the core. Millennials will make up 50% of the market by 2025. The article has some interesting stats on the luxury resale market: ā€œOverall 45% of true-luxury consumers participated in the second-hand luxury market, and more than one-fourth (26%) have bought pre-owned goodsā€ Ā which is a trend some luxury vintage sellers might want to watch.
Generation Z prefers personalized content & isnā€™t as worried about privacy as older generations.Ā
US adults now spend more time on mobile devices than they do watching tv. Much of that time is spent on mobile apps instead of browsers, & audio (podcasts & music streaming, mostly) accounts for a large chunk of time spent.Ā
US retail sales grew by half a percent in May, less than predicted.Ā
MISCELLANEOUSĀ
As the US looks at starting an antitrust case against Google, articles are reminding the government what other countries found, and what they should be looking at now. Businesses big & small have filed complaints.Ā
The Google Cloud outage on June 2 that took down YouTube, Snapchat and Shopify among other sites points to the need for everyone to have a backup system. [Remember, Etsy is also moving all functions to Googleā€™s cloud.]
Sick of writing product descriptions? Imagine if it was your full-time job, and you didnā€™t have any hand in making or curating the products.

A DISCLAIMER OF SORTS:
I'm not someone who posts publicly very much but I do enjoy creating (private) posts on here. More importantly, Iā€™m not sure Iā€™m exactly bobaboardā€™s target demographicā€”following mostly because I think it's a great projectā€”but I hope my rambling can be useful in some way despite that, even just as an example of what your users might not need or want.
Iā€™ll be talking mainly about the new NPF editor, as I've been using it for a while now and have liked it so much that I have gone out of my way to brainstorm ideas for posts just so I could use it again.
Tumblr media
What I love
What I think the NPF post editor does very well is allow users to combine content blocks in whichever order they want. Itā€™s much more fun to post things when you have control over how they look. I have also found it very rewarding to create themes for it and see the blocks working in different constellations. On a more meta level I also like the public github repo and the discussions on open issues there.
I also enjoy the way different paragraph types each have a theme or use; I think it's a good compromise between still allowing themes to be unique while giving the dashboard a bit more uniformity. Also copied text from another post getting automatically pasted as a blockquote block.
I like that the formatting options for the trail or children of a post are not more limited than those of the parent post.

What I hate
I think the image limit should be around 20, rather than 10.
I dislike that posting audio is tied to streaming.
While I like the idea different paragraph types, I miss the HTML editor very much, especially the free color choices.
The <pre> html tag being merged with the ā€œchatā€ post type into one ā€œmonospaceā€ block, when itā€™s not guaranteed that chat blocks will be monospaced on every theme (besides the fact that code and dialogue are very different things).
I wish they didnā€™t mash headings and large text sizes together (iirc the block types are named ā€œheading1ā€ and ā€œheading2ā€ in the json respectively), and allowed more nesting (h1 to h6)
I wound like the ability to nest things again; ā€œlargeā€ or ā€œchatā€ or ā€œquoteā€ blocks inside ā€œblockquoteā€ blocks and nested lists!
I miss <hr> lines. With how few images one can use per post it sucks to have to waste them on spacing paragraphs

One feature they can take away over my dead body
The HTML editor, which they have already done. RIP me.
Image hosting and the flexible image grid.

One Three issues I'd "literally" pay them to fix
Wonkyness in NPF rendering, but that is an NPF-specific issue (and it's still in beta anyways). I guess in general I want the documentation of the siteā€™s code to be up-to-date and explain how it wants me to render things; such as best practices for what html tag to use for each block type.
Right now adding alt text to images is very annoying and easy to forget, especially on the website, because it deletes it on every edit (the app doesn't).
Tags aren't editable and as someone that regulary hits the character limit on tags this is very frustrating. Also tags auto-breaking on ".

One Two features I'd "literally" pay them to add
Another text color option with a color wheel for unlimited custom colors (and less garish ones especially)
The ability to add ARIA-labels or role attributes to elements

My favorite text editors and what I like about them
I don't have a specific favorite, but
I will love any editor that supports many HTML tags.
The option to use grids/flexbox-type blocks is one of my favorite things about the Tumblr editor.
I am always happy to see an HTML preview option that doesn't open in a new page or allows switching between HTML and Rich Text editors without losing formatting.
Some editors let you swap images without deleting the image element, so alt text and formatting stays consistent. I think the editor on EA's help forums does that. (Never would have thought I'd use that one as a positive example lol)
HTML > Rich Text > Markdown always
When it comes to Markdown I really prefer the editor to come with a cheat sheet, because I personally always mix them up.
AO3's incredibly bare-bones editor still tells me which HTML tags it supports, and I love it for that.

So yeah. Hope this was useful in some way at least.
Sorry for the length. orz

Soliciting thoughts. As usual, feel free to mix and match and even rant.

What's one feature you'd ""literally"" pay then to add?
Which service has your favorite text editor? What do you like about it? (Alternatively: just tell me about other text editors you use)
