So I read Camp Damascus and Bury Your Gays by @drchucktingle recently. I have thoughts; I have feelings. I will try to keep it spoiler free.
Of the two, I preferred Bury Your Gays. A few reasons; I connected with the story a little more. Maybe being English and raised in an entirely non religious family, I had nothing to hang onto with the religious horror aspect of Camp Damascus. I thought it was a brilliant story about being queer in a heavily religious world; the way people will destroy you to make you into what they see as what you're meant to be; found family, so on. The horror didn't impact me much, but the moments of success were brilliant. It's well written, it doesn't talk down to you. My only tiny nitpicks are that I feel the main character is able to separate from her faith just a touch too easy, and that sometimes it doesn't feel so much like horror as an adventure book, but that might just be my inability to be bothered by horror.
Bury Your Gays feels more on my pathways. The story really drags you along, that lost uncertainty. The queerness of the main character is a driving force without being the focus - just naturally written gay people, and it's brilliantly done. I feel like Chuck's writing might have 'matured' a little more here, which feels like I'm doing Damascus a disservice, but it feels like Chuck is just a little more confident in the full length novel writing? The characters were just a little more jarring, and I loved all the nods to the real life inspirations and horrors. It felt like there might have been one or two moments that hint at things that never come to be, but that might just be me reading too much into it.
They're both brilliant books and I really do recommend them. I've found myself thinking a lot on them and the stories whilst travelling recently, which is a pretty good sign of a book making an impact on me. I also recently read Dog Rose Dirt by Jen Williams, but I'm going to make a new post about that!

can i say something. for years i thought the joke of the song short skirt/long jacket by cake was that he wanted a woman who was hung like a horse. like i thought when he says jacket it was a last-second fakeout because he very obviously meant to say cock. and the rest of the things in the song were just her personality and interests. which were secondary to her awesome penis

kacchan telling izuku that his body moved on his own is fucking crazy. like not only did kacchan remember izuku saying that all the way back from the sludge-villain incident but he’s also confirming that izuku’s crazy, boarder-line suicidal intensity is a two way street. it’s not just izuku who is insane about kacchan it’s mutual insanity. kacchan’s body moved on its own. he was helpless but to throw himself into the line of fire when he saw izuku was in danger. he didn’t think about it. he didn’t choose to do it. he didn’t have a choice. it was as if izuku was a piece of his own soul. katsuki instinctually needed to protect him above all else, even at the cost of his own life

i'm sorry but hotd positing that all women are innately cautious and peaceful and compassionate while men are rash warmongers is not a feminist win! i could see the value in everyone being hesitant to go to war at the onset of the story because it intensifies the tragedy of this house tearing itself apart, but at this stage, rhaenyra has as much reason for bloodlust (if not more) as the men on the show. it's pretty heavily implied that the shock of her usurpation killed her daughter, aemond killed lucerys, and one of aegon's kingsguard snuck into her quarters with the intent to assassinate her. most importantly, she has felt entitled to the throne since she was named heir as a child. she should be incensed! rhaenyra's inaction in the season 1 finale due to a sudden aversion to violence was already stretching believability -- this is the same woman who expressed nothing beyond mild shock at vaemond's beheading, who plotted with daemon to have an innocent man killed to facilitate laenor's escape while declaring that the realm should fear her. to have rhaenyra insist on peace at this point in the story, when war is already well underway, is incredibly irrational.
this problem is not limited to rhaenyra. alicent ordered larys to kill mysaria's network of spies and any suspected traitors in the red keep, presumably without any due process, and neither of these decisions was depicted with the gravity they deserved for a character who was once horrified by any bloodshed. meanwhile, aegon had a few extra ratcatchers executed, and not only was the direction sufficiently ominous, but we also got a lengthy monologue from otto about how it would spell his doom. it is probably pointless to bring up rhaenys because she is written less like a believable human being and more like a mouthpiece for the writers to assert whatever political opinion they believe is correct in a given episode -- but she did very much kill dozens if not hundreds of smallfolk last season. she did do that and very clearly did not care. why is she an advocate against war? for both alicent and rhaenys, there is a strange dissonance where their actions are at odds with their attitudes about opposing large-scale war for the good of the realm. i'm not saying this dissonance cannot exist, but it should at least be acknowledged.
helaena raising concerns about the losses suffered by the smallfolk might have worked in isolation, but for it to accompany everything above is exhausting. can none of these women be allowed to feel for themselves?

dungeon meshi is soooo fucking great especially when it hits its stride and all characters have come into play bc it's just like
laios: I want to eat all the fucking monsters i want the monsters carnally
marcille: EATING MOSNTERS???? UNHOLY. UNCOUTH. DISGUSTING. anyway here's all the dark magic and necromancy i've got on the backburner to bring back my dragon-digested gf and also i plan to find a way for everyone to live forever at the cost of my very soul if need be
kabru, normally, in a normal tone he's rehearsed 42000 times in front of a mirror: I'M NORMAL. I'M SOOOO FUCKING NORMAL. I'M THE MOST NORMAL GUY AROUND AND I'M NOT CONSTANTLY PLOTTING ASSASSINATIONS FOR THE GREATER GOOD
senshi: I have all this trauma abt being the sole survivor of the fantasy equivalent of the franklin expedition but that's not important what really matters here is eat yer goddamn veggies or so help me
and the best part is that none of them are straight

there’s a lot of interesting stuff that can be made by examining the objectively scary stuff the robins face in a realistic light, but also? i really like the robins making trauma jokes. humor’s a coping mechanism that makes a lot of sense for them, given their previous role as the lighter side of batman. and, perhaps more importantly, i think it’s funny
Dick: did you just house an entire family-sized bag of chips? by yourself, in less than an hour?
Jason: as an orphan, i qualify as a family of one
Steph: but you died too, so that would make you a family of zero
Damian: multiple of us have died. it doesn’t make anyone special. i, however, am naturally special, on account of being heir to the batman
Steph: ah, heck. well, i’m no longer special, guess it’s time to fake my death and flee to africa
Dick: are you really heir to the batman, though, if bruce kicking it anytime soon would just put me in the cowl? which is a terrible job, by the way, to which nobody should brag about being heir?
Tim: hey, guys. has anyone seen my chips? i coulda sworn i…
Jason: [makes direct eye contact as he tips the bag up, funneling the bottom-bag chip crumbs into his mouth]
Jason: oh, sorry. did someone take something from you? steal it, perhaps?
Tim: [deep breath]
Tim: do you want guns batman. because this is how you get guns batman
Dick: [muttering] at least someone wants the job

She!!
Image description courtesy of @anistarrose: digital art of Luz from The Owl House in her Titan form. Instead of her witchy clothes, she wears a t-shirt and green overalls, with claws poking out from her sandals. She's leaping in the air with Stringbean's staff in one hand, laughing and channeling a spell. End description.

been thinking about these two (shocking i know), but consider:
John tugging at Arthur's clothes to nudge him at certain directions or to stop during high-stakes situations;
John pretending to fidget, ie scratching Arthur's cheek or rubbing his chin, in order to turn his head in the proper direction to keep up appearances;
John helping Arthur fix his clothes and hair since he can't see those;
John reaching out for things first so that Arthur can follow the general location of his left hand for the item;
John pinching Arthur's side to get his attention;
Arthur pinching John's hand, uno reverse style;
John learning to use a fountain pen for writing, cus proper pressure and flow are an important aspect of it;
also Arthur and John puzzling shorthands together, so that John can make sense of it;
Arthur occasionally trying to puzzle architectural styles from John's descriptions, so that they can get on the same page of what terms they are both familiar with;
same with plants and animals, trying to nail what species John is seeing from descriptions alone;
