The New Denpa Men for the Switch:

I haven't played any of the 3DS Denpa Men games so I couldn't fully tell you if New Denpa Men for Switch is faithful to them or not, but I'm enjoying New Denpa so far. New Denpa Men uses a f2p model with optional micro transactions. Currently I don't see anything that you can't get with jewels (the premium currency) that you can't also get through grinding in game for free. You get a gem the first time you defeat a dungeon, for instance.

There's also a stamina system where each dungeon you enter takes some of your stamina and if you don't have enough stamina you can't enter the dungeon. Stamina renews again over time, or you can use jewels for an immediate refill.

I love games with silly little guys and Denpa Men is definitely a game with silly little guys. I'm not sure if they're randomly generated or if there are pre-made guys, but your guys grow as you progress throughout the game and some of the guys are more special than the other guys, and the way you catch them to add them to your party is fun. There is armor you can equip to boost their stats and make them look cute and silly.

As far as combat goes, it's very simple, about on par with Miitopia. You tell your Denpa Men to attack, guard, use a skill or item, or run away, and that's basically it. Sometimes they'll use skills without you telling them to. Healing, whether through skills or items, does not take priority in battle, so I've had a couple of faints from poorly timed heals and low hp. If you're having this problem, try switching armor or Denpa Men with higher speed.

The simple combat might be a turn off for more die hard RPG fans or anyone wanting more of a challenge. It definitely feels like a free to play game, but I haven't felt bombarded by attempts at cash grabs yet. The NPC that offered me jewels for 99¢ was hidden in a side path in a cave on my second run of that dungeon. Which is an interesting approach, almost kind of like an "Oh you're grinding? Care for the good stuff~?" kind of approach to me. (Although I could have just missed him on my first run) There are also higher level monsters cornered away in the dungeons that you can always come back to later which is a nice touch.

The game has a YouTube channel in English and Japanese that goes a little more in depth on some of the game's features, and I imagine will post update videos when the game gets an update.

Seasonal/limited time events seem to be planned for the game. There was even a small fruit themed dungeon event going when I started the game on launch day.

So TLDR should you play The New Denpa Men on the Switch?

Watch the trailer and if it's something you think you'd enjoy, go ahead and download it and give it a try. It's free. It definitely gives me a more casual/kid friendly kind of vibe but sometimes those can be nice. But if watching the trailer didn't excite you, then the game probably won't either.

Daniel hasn’t had much to bond over with Will lately, so maybe it’s actually a good thing they’ve both hit Charlie.

They meet up in the early spring. After news broke about Elenore’s pregnancy, everybody wanted to come home and hold each other (and get away from Charlie). Lucy’s on sabbatical this semester, anyway, and Will took paid time off. Not for vacation. For comfort. Daniel takes a little pride in the fact that he can still be his friend’s comfort. It wasn’t long ago he thought those days might be gone.

The two of them go for a drive in the evening, no destination in mind, a little like when they were young. Daniel insists they’re still young, but Will thinks otherwise. Daniel understands. He got old before his time.

“And I’m only getting older faster,” Will says as he comes to a stop on Colgate. “I should’ve realized that becoming a dad at seventeen would make me a young grandpa.”

Daniel laughs, but he thinks there’s something caught in it.

“Yeah, but you probably thought it’d be with Sean or something,” he says. “How could you have predicted Charlie?”

“He’s the sneakiest guy I’ve ever met. Even when we were kids. I should’ve seen it coming. I should’ve seen him coming. It was in my house, Daniel. In my house.”

Daniel shakes his head.

“He’s lucky you didn’t kill him,” he says. “He’s actually lucky I didn’t kill him.”

Will snorts.

“When have you seen Charlie?” he asks.

“Christmas Eve,” Daniel says. “He came home. Wanted to see me. Not even Sadie or the kids. Just me. We spent the whole evening together. Even ran into Steph.”

“How’s she?”

“Not the point.”

“I guess not. Go on.”

The light turns green, and Will rolls on through it. He likes to drive when he’s back home since he never gets the chance in New York. Too much congestion. Daniel suddenly becomes very aware of the CD trapped in the car stereo.

Sometimes, it seems like you’re falling / falling out of the sky …

Daniel feels himself turn bright pink.

“Sorry about that,” he says and toggles the radio back to FM. “You don’t want to hear the soundtrack to Ice Princess. Neither do I, for that matter.”

“Eh, it’s OK,” Will says, grinning like he used to for the first time since his plane landed. “Emma’s the same age as Rose, remember? I also have a copy of the Ice Princess soundtrack. And I’ve got that preview memorized.”

“‘I’m going to the 2010 Olympics –’”

“‘– could you try not to, like, squish me?’”

Daniel really laughs for the first time since before Christmas. Maybe even longer than that. It’s hard to laugh when your friends are on the Coast or in the dirt. But with Will here, even bullshit is hilarious.

“Daughters,” he says.

“Yeah,” Will says. “Think Charlie will have another one?”

“Hard to say. Anyway, you wanna hear how I decked him?”

“Obviously.”

“Yeah. Well. We were in the cemetery …”

“Daniel!”

“We were in the cemetery, visiting Sam’s grave, which Sadie and I never do. We don’t think he’d be hanging around there, even if he was a ghost.”

“Mmm-hmm.”

“And while we were there, right there, in front of Sam’s headstone … Charlie told me he and Elenore … I still can’t finish that sentence, you know. Makes me sick to think that he could.”

“No kidding. When I think about it … God, I just want to kill him.”

“So did I. And I … Will, I swear, I don’t know what got into me. I don’t even know how I did it, with Charlie being a foot taller than me and all that … but I got him. He bled, right there in the snow.”

Will smacks his hands on the steering wheel. Daniel grins. It’s still easy as ever to impress Will. Just give him a bit of movie violence, and he’s in heaven.

“You did that!” he says, over and over. “You did that!”

“I did,” Daniel says. “And the whole time I was driving home, I thought, ‘Man, Charlie must be really weak. That was only a glancing blow.’”

Will laughs a little more. He takes a turn, and Daniel thinks maybe he knows where they’re going.

“I guess I gotta thank you,” Will says.

“What for?”

“For standing up for Elenore when she wasn’t there to stand up for herself. You kinda … you really love that kid, don’t you?”

Daniel nods.

“I know I’m not her godfather,” he says. “But sometimes I like to pretend like Sam split his job.”

“He didn’t,” Will says. “I think it’s stupid they make you narrow it down to one, anyway. You were always … you are always … you’re important to my kids, OK? Emma and Elenore.”

There’s something about that for Daniel. Makes punching his best friend out seem worth it.

“I’d do anything for your kids,” Daniel says. “You know that.”

“I do,” Will says. “You already have.”

BATIM REWRITE

Y’all may have heard about the controversy surrounding The Kindly Beast, and the BATIM franchise as a whole. I feel kinda betrayed by what happened, and so decided to completely rewrite the game. This is going to be a YouTube video down the line, and I’m looking forward to working on it! Have some concept art!

Also, I realized that my Henry design is kinda based on @doberart’s Henry, so shoutout to her. Honestly, best Henry out there lol. I guess this is me asking permission to carry over a lot of what she’s doing for the rewrite.

The video I'm working on is going to be based a lot on The Closer Look's Star Wars deep dive, where he talks about why the latest 3 movies didn't work and then rewrites them. In my video, I'll be taking a similar approach, breaking down the game in what worked and what didn't. Then, the last bit will be a sort of dramatic outline for a finished game.

I won't say much here yet (save that for the video), but some highlights will include:

Giving everyone more character and interactions

There were a lot of concepts in BATIM that were introduced and dropped in the same chapter, as well as things that seemed like foreshadowing and weren't, and things that just went unexplored. I want to explore those things more thoroughly.

I will be trying to actively carry over characters, concepts, and locations, while scrapping and adding others as would fit the story.

For example, to keep with the "pattern" I'm establishing, a new character will be introduced that is a director for the cartoons, someone who works just under Joey creatively. And he's not happy. He's met other characters, has rivalries with some and alliances with others, and the same can be said for pre-existing characters.

As for the pattern, it's going to follow the creative process (like Chapters 1 and 2 kinda already do!). Chapter 1 is Moving Pictures- about concept art and storyboarding. Chapter 2 is New Direction, focused on the directing/financing/producing aspect. Chapter 3 is The Old Song- a lot is the same, but there's a lot different too. Chapter 4 is The Illusion of Living- a reference to the book, and the actual animation aspect! Chapter 5 is The Last Reel, and focuses on distribution/fan reception.

All characters will be introduced by at LEAST Chapter 3, if not physically then through audio logs and other characters talking about them.

It's not just the Alices that can talk.

The Butcher Gang are more important.

Bendy himself is pretty much getting a makeover. I can't explain why or what that'll look like, but trust me, I think I got a cool idea. And, it's inspired by one the community has touched on and enjoyed in the past, too, though not entirely the same. He's more mischievous, more active, smarter, and... well, that's a spoiler.

Henry himself is getting an arc. He's not a silent protag, as much as the game likes to pretend that he is. He has thoughts and opinions, and is a major player since he created Bendy. So, it's only fitting that he has his own story to tell and choices to make (as any good protag should always make a choice).

I'll shut up now before I start actually giving away the changes themselves ghjfds.

My K-Dramas of June - August (First Half) part 1

As June marked the last month of my classes for the term, I grabbed the opportunity to marathon K-Drama as much as I can. With that goal in mind, I was able to finish 7 K-dramas and would like to give my thoughts with the following. This might be a spoiler full review-ish so disclaimer for that.

p.s. if you haven't watched all of the drama on the list, I recommend just scrolling past that title you haven't watch yet and go back to this blog post when you're already done!

p.p.s. Trigger warning too, I have watched some K-dramas that might be sensitive for others, please read with caution.

Tomorrow

The first K-drama I've watched last June was Tomorrow. I watched this in a whim because even though I have a lot to watch on my K-drama list, I am only comfortable watching K-dramas on mobile, so Netflix and Viu. It was newly released during the time I've decided to watch it and I've heard good things about it so I gave it a go without any information or a tiny bit of synopsis (just watching it blindly ehe). First few episodes and I'm already hooked! Since I am really interested into concepts where it's not part of my culture aka something new (e.g. Afterlife, Reincarnation, Grim Reapers etc.). Learning things about the East-Asian culture has always been a fascinating thing to me and I wanted to learn more.

This drama also touched one of the taboo topics in Korea, which is suicide. It is a very heavy topic to portray in media but I do think that they were able to nail it and was able to convey a message regarding suicide and how to overcome it.

The cast dynamics is one of the factors that made me continue to watch, although everyone is new to me, as I haven't watched any dramas that they starred in, I was able to enjoy their performance and how they are able to pull off each character.

What made me add this drama to my favorites list is how things were connected, how the character's attitudes and perception towards suicide is based on their experiences from their past lives and how the story intertwined with the character's pasts. I especially liked how Ryeon and Joong-gil were lovers in their past lives (even though this drama is not romance heavy, I still manage to get kilig during the time we're they were still together).

One thing that felt short for me is the lack of depth and focus on Junwoong's past life. I do think that him being in a comma for months in the present is a sad thing and I won't question that but regarding his past life, I feel like the integration of that is something that wasn't thought very well. I've expected Junwoong's past life to be more meaningful as he was one of the main leads. But I guess it won't really make sense if he is connected with the other lead's past lives as he just accidentally got into the squad. I honestly wish there was more to it but I'm gonna just accept that he did great things in the past and be contented with that.

A Korean Odyssey

After watching Tomorrow, I immediately started watching A Korean Odyssey. It is a fantasy, lil comedy, romance, horror-ish, star-crossed lovers K-drama. This drama has been added to my list for a bit, maybe a year ago, because of that short preview from Netflix and that intrigued me because of well... it's a bit of a jumpscare so I was curious. (If you have watched that preview video, you know what I mean plus I watched that like 10pm so it scared the sh** out of me)

All I can say is that this drama deserves more recognition. It's a good balance between the good stuff and the tragic happenings and it is also accompanied by a comedic relief which somewhat gave a light tone. It is romance heavy and when I say romance heavy I meant that kind of romance . The cast are all so good in portraying their characters and they aren't that forgettable. The actors really nailed their roles and it also added to the cohesiveness of the drama as a whole.

After watching this K-Drama, I have found another actor to look out for, which is Lee SeungGi. He is actually a household name in the Korean Media Industry and I have heard of him many times, due to the famous My Girlfriend is a Gumiho and him being able to sing, but this is the first time I've actually watched a drama that he is the main character. Given I've really liked his acting here, I've added him to my favorite actors list! which btw is non existent but let's pretend it does Because of that admiration of his performance, I did watched another K-drama that he starred in in this list.

I recommend this drama if you are looking for a binge-worthy fantasy with comedy, horror-ish and also tragedy on the side. However though, I'd say the ending is a bit unfortunate. It suggests a season 2 but 5 years after it's release, I doubt that there will be a season 2 unless...

Two Cops

While watching Tomorrow, I also watched this drama with a friend; Two Cops! I'd say its a fun watch, generic but still worth the time.

It's about a police and a con artist that got into an accident and then the con artist possessed the body of the police. Sounds scary? It's not under a horror genre though. The purpose of the unexplainable possession is to uncover the truth that lies between the two leads and the other characters related to them. This follows a similar structure of intertwined lives as they have crossed paths once just like tomorrow minus the past lives as this one is from childhood to adulthood.

It's my first time watching Jo Jungsuk even after the famous hospital playlist which btw I haven't watched yet. I like the duality in his role here and his performance is convincing. He has the serious side and the goofy side which I enjoyed watching. It's also fun to see Hyeri here as I haven't watched her in a while after dropping Reply 1988 please don't come after me, a lot has enjoyed that drama but during the time that I've watched it.. I just didn't feel it. She's still the goofy and fun Hyeri that I've watched in Reply 1988 though, which is not really bad but nostalgic. As for Seonho, I did watch this drama because of him. My friend was a super fan of this guy, we call this oppa (and our other oppas) samcheon, due to having 10+ age gap between us and our favorite actors, and I've decided to binge Seonho dramas with her to let the lady enjoy and as for me I wanted to see more of his acting.

This drama is okay though, not something that made my mind blown or something. As I've mentioned, it's generic but still worth watching especially to Seonho fans. Though I can say that I'm quite disappointed that Seonho had a lil less screen time compared to Jungsuk but nonetheless they both carried the show well.

Mouse

Here is another Lee SeungGi drama as promised, (from that A Korean Odyssey post). Mouse. After watching A Korean Odyssey and enjoyed SeungGi's performance, I followed it up with another one of his dramas.

Mouse is a thriller, mystery, twisty and dark drama about psychopaths and whether or not they are born not made. This drama focuses on discovering the Psychopath gene, due to Korea's advancing technology, a Doctor was able to detect a gene that is present among Psychopaths to fetuses. It is an interesting concept but as the disclaimer in every start of the episode, it is a work of fiction, so Psychopath gene ain't real hopefully.

I'd say throughout the whole 20 episodes that I've endured, it was interesting rather than enjoyable. Giving you a grave warning that this drama isn't for the light-hearted, it's always about murder and killings, since the story focuses on Serial Killers.

Aside from the serial killings and psychopaths, Of course it focuses on a handful of characters and let's the viewers know their inner conflicts and struggles. There's no room of certainty in this drama as every episode ends with a question.

After a few episodes, I thought that this drama would overthrow my favorite K-drama of all time which is Law School but after the second half, it didn't. I had high expectations with it but after answers were revealed, it felt confusing and overwhelming as for the first 14 eps, they left me with questions and suddenly they bombarded some answers which it was too much for me to comprehend. Adding to that, there were too many characters to focus on, though the main focus would be the two main leads, there were other side characters that are also related to the story line that were also given too much stress and that made the experience dense. I'd say 16 episodes would be sufficient as the duration of 20 eps felt dragging but alright I guess they need that many episodes for the narrative.

Overall, if you are ready for a heavy drama with killings involved, I recommend this. It will make you question whether what's shown is the whole picture or details were left out. Kudos to the actors, I can really feel their stress and conflicts.

Episode 45, aka that time they let the intern make a story pitch x’D

However! It’s a fun episode. And I loooooved Gabumon in it.

I mean, how can you not love that face!

So this week has three concepts:

1) MetalGarurumon’s debut

2) Showcasing what friendship means to Yamato and Gabumon

3) MOTORCYCLE DEATH RACE

I think they did a good job of number 2. But this setup feels like a strange pick for MetalGarurumon’s entrance. I guess I just can’t get used to the way the kids in this series achieve new levels without much tension at all. Maybe it’s a metaphor - we don’t need BIG things in life to grow, in fact, we grow a lot more from all the little small things. Something like that, maybe. Still... every single Perfect-level evolution in 99 Adventure had a lot of tension behind it, so it’s just a bit of a new world for me when that’s not the case even for Ultimate level in the reboot.

We get a pretty awesome opening sequence of this guy, Machmon, at the start of the episode. Then Our Heroes arrive on the scene and witness Machmon shooting around a pretty crazy track. Gabumon takes one look and decides he has to race too.

Gabumon: That’s just what I want to be when I grow up!

Yamato: I’ll indulge you, but honestly I was hoping you’d go to college.

I think this is somewhat new - this emphasis on Garurumon’s speed. But what’s great about it is the way we see that Garurumon loves racing. Yet again, rather than focus solely on the kids’ feelings, the Digimon’s motivations are what matter. It makes sense that this is particularly the case in Yamato episodes, because it gives plenty of opportunity to show their bond of friendship.

As Garurumon and Yamato join the race with Machmon, Koushirou gets the aerial view x’D lmao COME ON that CANNOT be safe

Garurumon adorably coaxes Machmon into a race, though Machmon seems hesitant. Then he suddenly starts to attack! Tailmon tells the others who are watching that this course must be the Digimon Grand Prix death race where anything goes. However, Machmon does not seem to be completely in his own mind, and Garurumon winds up having to save him from himself.

As a result, he is injured. He even has bandages! But he immediately demands a rematch lol. Machmon hesitates even more but on learning that he’s the last racer here and has been racing all alone for some time, Gabumon just can’t give up. At least Tailmon interjects to make Machmon promise not to hurt him this time. Tailmon is very much Team Mom in this episode. (Which is another example of Digimon driving the show as much as the human partners.)

I really thought Yamato wouldn’t want to do something he knows is dangerous for Gabumon. Koushirou and Taichi ask Yamato what’s up and he admits he’s noticed that Machmon doesn’t seem all that stable, and he’s not sure what to expect in the race. At the same time, he doesn’t want to disappoint Gabumon, and he doesn’t seem interested in abandoning Machmon either. Pretty much he’s got a lot of plates to balance. He asks Gabumon to leave the strategy to him.

The new race starts! Jou is the race caller along with Koushirou, who, uh, doesn’t show up.

Three cheerleaders emerge! Where did they find those outfits x’D

Taichi is in charge of the countdown and that’s all he does the entire episode x’D I figured he’d be out watching for danger like Koushirou but nope. Well, we had so much Taichi for so long that it’s been a breath of fresh air to focus on the others, but I’m now starting to miss my favorite sunshine boy

Of course it’s not long before Machmon starts playing dirty again. But between Koushirou’s recon and Yamato’s up-close view, they are able to figure out that Machmon is being controlled by Parasimon, the aptly named parasite Digimon. I liked the teamwork between Yamato and Koushirou here a lot.

Tailmon: Whoooa that guy is fugly

Machmon then reveals that he took Parasimon on by his own free will, in order to become the best racer ever. As a result, he lost all his friends and wound up alone. He’s decided this is his last race and intends to DIE afterward. Like, he literally says “let me DIE.” that’s frickin dark

Our Heroes will not have that, of course, so we get MetalGarurumon. His transformation sequence is a lot cooler than the actual episode.

His big plan for saving Machmon from jumping off the cliff? BITE HIM OUT OF THE SKY

also he looks HUUUGE I was like whyyyy is he so big? and then thirty seconds later he’s back to a more normal size... but like Yamato is like a PEA on his back here bahahaha

So yeah, it was a fun episode, if rather - ok, VERY - predictable. It’s not really the Yamato episode I always dreamed of, but eh. We’ve had a series of lighter episodes going on which has been very nice after all the non-stop action, so I’m hesitant to be too picky. I wouldn’t have minded a bit more meat to this episode. But to be fair - it wasn’t that long ago that we did get a much meatier Yamato episode, the one with Mephistomon or whatever. That’s when MetalGarurumon should have emerged imo. But maybe I’ll change my mind later... idk.

I think things are about to heat up though. The preview for episode 46:

Takeru appears captured somewhere and Angemon has to fight a bunch of baddies, who may or may not really be there. But it’s got something to do with Devimon and there seemed to be a hint that Angemon and Devimon might have a similar relationship to Tailmon and SkullKnightmon. Which we’d already guessed a while ago, but since Devimon was defeated it seemed shelved. But no more! This is really exciting. It seems likely we’ll see MagnaAngemon next week too!

Batman: Black and White #1: The first of a platter of anthologies today:

* The Tynion/Moore story is predictably fire.

* JHIII is JHIII. Also he does a really nice surprising story about how Batman’s relating to this moment of the time, but let’s be real, you’re here because JHIII, and be assured he is JHIII as helllll here and it’s great.

* Dini/Kubert plays as the former building a story around accommodating requests by the latter, but that’s not a bad thing, and glad to see Kubert’s kept up the pace since his DK3/Up In The Sky creative rejuvenation.

* Ok I’m a philistine who has no idea what that Emma Rios thing was about but it was certainly pretty.

* Wilson doing Batman is surprisingly disappointing, but Smallwood doing Batman definitely isn’t.

DC’s Very Merry Multiverse: Not a very merry time! I hate to say it given this should be so geared to my interests, but this is the weakest overall effort we’ve gotten from one of DC’s quarterly anthologies in a good long while, at least among those I’ve picked up. Not to say it’s a dud, there are several nifty little stories in here including the much-hyped first appearance of Kid Quick (destined to become the Flash of Future State) and really almost everything here reaches ‘pretty okay’. But for $10, and a creative space that should reach so much more than ‘pretty okay’, I don’t know that this is a justifiable recommendation unless you’re understandably desperate for all the President Superman content you can get your hands on.

Tales of the Dark Multiverse: Flashpoint: I’m surprised I got it too, but the preview grabbed me and in practice it was a fun, mean little high-concept adventure of Reverse Flash being a total cock.

Wonder Woman #768: Credit where it is due, this has been getting a bit better in its closing stretch.

Dark Nights: Death Metal: The Last Stories of the DC Universe: This ruled. Obviously there was the one story folks are most interested in, but almost all of the tales in here lived up to being a ‘final’ story of sorts for their leads.

* The Titans bookenders were pretty nice even if it’s hilarious that their big rallying cry basically amounts to “by god, our book may be shit, but we’re valuable IP so we’ll never be cancelled!”

* Green Lantern is basically an epilogue to Johns’ run sans the baggage of bringing back Johns (that we get in two weeks with Secret Origin and god forgive me I’m so looking forward to that), and definitely one of my favorite efforts from Lemire.

* Wonder Woman’s the stinker in what’s nominally her own event. I can parse the roots of most bad Superman stories one way or another, but I just can’t understand what’s behind most bad Wonder Woman stories beyond that the people handling it simply don’t give a shit.

* Astonishingly, the Green Arrow and Black Canary chapter in here might be my favorite of the bunch? Simone at her best, a really sweet slice of playful, sincere romance about two characters I’m not by default invested in but ended up quite caring for here.

* This Aquaman story is everything I generally hate in Aquaman stuff, a big long maudlin speech about the weight of the world as he swims through a black featureless ocean, except here between the real heart Sebela brings to the script and the mood artist Christopher Mooneyham manages to evoke, it all clicks together.

* The Batman Family story feels like it can’t quite make its pacing work, but it’s still a heartfelt little ode to the theoretical power of the concept.

* Hey, that Mark Waid guy? Turns out he can write him some Superman. It’s not perhaps the total barnburner you might have expected - I imagine he’s saving his biggest hits for later - but it’s a very solid execution of a gangbusters concept, and Manapul steals the show with absolutely sensational, gorgeous scenic Superman imagery. I’mma say 60/40 in favor of them doing a Superman project together on either a main book or Black Label (I know Manapul was supposed to be locked into a creator-owned thing with Scott Snyder but that was ages ago), because this is a paring that’s yielded some immediate results and I imagine everyone knows it. And given my upbringing, nice to see a big, iconic, beautiful Superman story with him rocking the mullet.

Crossover #2: Readers I’m not too big to admit I laughed my ass off at the first page, and at least a little bit for the actual reasons intended. The sense of homaging that Spawn scene in the context of a book about “Gosh, isn’t IP the best folks?”, or Cates’ dialogue...(shall we say) proving why he likes the concept of ellipses enough to name a character after them aside though? That it’s already crossed the line with its central metaphor from “indefensibly insensitive in its ridiculous self-centeredness” to “out-and-out cartoonishly offensive” somehow actually makes it more rather than less palatable; there’s no longer the secondhand embarrassment of waiting to see how bad Cates is going to handle this, it simply is the worst it could possibly be and readers have to accept and perhaps revel in the sight of him stepping on rake after rake. I cannot wait for him to finally give an interview on this book where he explains what the hell he thinks this looks like, and I hope my dad keeps somehow enjoying it forever because I totally wanna see what pit this descends to next.

Penultiman #3: This is absolutely agonizing and probably the most relatable take on a ‘superman’ ever.

Home Sick Pilots #1: A new creator-owned book from Dan Watters (whose big two credits include the stupendous “Afraid of America” with John Paul Leon in the last Batman Secret Files, and the upcoming Future State: Superman/Wonder Woman) and Peter Cannon’s Caspar Wijngaard, this new book set against the backdrop of a Californian high school’s punk scene in 1994 describes itself as “Power Rangers meets The Shining (yes, really)”. The former influence isn’t much in play yet, but thus far this is a book that merges building tension and freewheeling dopey teen bullshit to an extent that’s subtly impressive as hell, and seems likely to proudly take a place among the current horror comic renaissance.

Warhammer 40,000: Marneus Calgar #3: Ok again I don’t have any experience with this franchise but you’d better believe that cultural osmosis was enough that I popped for BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD! SKULLS FOR THE SKULL THRONE!

King in Black: Namor #1: Kurt Busiek’s return to Marvel...sucks? Such is the power of Knull I guess even if he doesn’t manifest within the actual story here, this is a complete nothing of a comic and I’m not tuning in for issue #2.

Avengers #39: Eh, I’m not liking Aaron Avengers when it gets remotely serious nearly as much as when he’s doing stuff like having them finally help Blade with all those vampires or Captain America assisting with the delivery of an exploding space-baby in the back of a muscle car.

Guardians of the Galaxy #9: I lack much context here beyond recalling from an interview that this is Ewing’s way of grappling with the ideas from Steve Englehart’s original unrealized vision of Star-Lord’s character arc, but wherever it stems from this is a hell of a comic.

S.W.O.R.D. #1: This is everything I’ve wanted from the non-Hickman X-books since the moment HoXPoX ended, and so much more, and also it is basically hilarious that Ewing is all but explicitly using his clout to force Marvel to let him to Ultimates3 under a currently cancellation-proof banner. Most importantly of all, Ewing has already mastered the subtle art of writing not merely Magneto, but the infinitely superior Jonathan Hickman Magneto. And good lord Schiti and Gracia, I already knew they were top-tier but these pages’d make a grown man cry.

Welcome Home

(A/N: ok sOO I barely talk about my Pixar AU on here and ik no one really cares but if you are interested I’m willing to post more. Or you can just check it out on my wattpad, whatever floats your boat. Anyway this is just a quick one-shot I wrote when I officially added Ian and Barley in the mix back in March. Hope you enjoy!)

The previous night should've been a well-enough preview of what the Pixars were like. At first, they were calm and civil, posing for pictures on the red carpet, making casual jokes, sitting calmly in the audience. They were extremely polite to the new guys—Ian and Barley Lightfoot. Two teenaged elves (despite their ages, they would be joining the adult household as opposed to the adjoining kids' home).

But by the time the celebration party for the Swearing-In started, the Pixars, as a whole, went wild. After the paparazzi left, so did their sobriety. The Pixars danced (often inappropriately) to the music, made many dirty jokes (in front of the kids, no less), and had completely lost any sense they had. Barley didn't really mind it, but he didn't appreciate the fact that they didn't let him drink anything besides the fruit punch. Ian, however, was unexplainably uncomfortable with the experience. He expected the adults to get tipsy, sure, but he didn't think that any of them would grind each other on the dance floor or dip their heads in a punch bowl to bob for apples (by apples, it was really just a bunch of decorative fruit—to which some of them ate anyway).

Yes, the Pixars were a crazy bunch, and that was made painfully obvious at the party.

But it was unavoidable for the two elves. Luxo Sr. made them and they'd sworn into the family of his creations. There was no going back now.

Barley was the first to wake up the next morning, and not just because he was one of the few that wasn't completely hungover. He woke up due to his enthusiasm. He couldn't wait to explore the town, decorate his and Ian's room, meet new people. It was his first day of actually being able to experience the world. He wanted to make it count.

He was able to leave the room without waking up his brother, and surprisingly no one else either when he walked down the hallway. He couldn't help but briefly observe everything he passed—pictures, figurines, the dozens of Pixar merchandise on the shelves in the living room. After coming home last night, he wasn't able to really see the house since it was late and everyone else was too tired to give a tour.

Barley then walked into the kitchen, being nosey by rummaging through the cabinets and pantry. He wanted to try to make the others breakfast, but he knew it wouldn't be successful if he even tried to cook, considering he didn't know how. So instead, he did what he knew how to do.

He grabbed the many boxes of cereal from the pantry and began to pour them into separate bowls. "This should do the trick." He said to himself with pride. "Not everyone needs fancy eggs or tasty pig meat to get their nutrition."

He grabbed spoons for the bowls, but then it occurred to him that they probably didn't have enough milk for every bowl. After checking the fridge, his thoughts were proven correct, since there was only one carton. "Well, I guess some of them will have to be dry." He shrugged, pouring the milk into certain bowls while he left the rest alone. "Eh, they can always buy more."

His pointy ears twitched when he heard a door open from the hallway. The enthusiasm grew, now was his chance to prove himself a good roommate to them! Being kind and offering breakfast for them after having a crazy night? Who wouldn't want to live with someone like that?

Barley puffed out his chest, holding up one of the bowls in a dramatic stance. Not a second later, the exhausted and hungover Woody entered the room, holding his temples with his fingers. "Good morrow, my fellow Pixar gentleman!" The elf said in a 'proper' tone, which startled the brunette man at first. "May I offer you your first meal of this glorious day?" He held the bowl out for him to take.

Woody eyed him oddly, slowly taking the cereal bowl. "Uh, thanks." He said. He didn't want to be rude to the new Pixar, especially not on the first day. But he was in no mood to deal with the naive excitement right now. "I didn't think you'd be up so early." He said, moving the spoon around as he sat on the stool at the counter.

"I could say the same thing to you." Barley joked, running a hand through his short blue hair. "But anyway, I wanted to get up and surprise you all with a little treat. But uh, I hope the rest of them don't mind soggy or dry cereal." He said, realizing that pouring the milk in so early might not have been the best idea.

Woody shrugged, "Eh, we're hungover now. We're not picky." He said, putting a spoonful of cereal in his mouth. "So, how'd you sleep?" He asked, deciding to make conversation with the new guy, despite his horrid headache

"I barely slept at all." Barley answered honestly, "I kept thinking about all the stuff I want to do! After being kept in a test tube all my life, I'm finally able to see the world!"

"You weren't awake in the 'test tube', don't make it so dramatic." The brunette man laughed, "But hey, I get that. We were all as excited as you at one point."

Barley paced in a circle, "First, I'm gonna try that meat sandwich thing, then I'm gonna go run on that white dirt by the ocean, and then I'm gonna drive, and then I'm gonna learn a dirty joke and tell it to the kids!"

Woody eyed him, smiling in amusement. Ah, I remember being that excited about life. He thought to himself, Oh take me back to those days...please.

"First, it's called a hamburger. Second, the dirt is called sand. Third, you have to learn to drive first. And finally...knock yourself out, we've all done it."

The new Pixar put his fist to his hip in confidence, staring off outside from the glass door. "Ah, there's a whole lotta world out there. I bet you've had fun experiencing it all." He said with a sigh.

"Uhh sure. Fun." Woody said dismissively.

They both turned their heads when they heard a toilet flush, followed by a door opening. Barley grinned when seeing who'd just walked out from the bathroom. "Ah, there he is! My dear brother!" He said dramatically, much to Ian's dismay. He walked over to drape his arm over the smaller elf's shoulder. "Welcome to the first day of the rest of our lives." He said, gesturing with his hand.

"Barley, we've been alive for a month now." Ian said dryly.

"Shhh, don't ruin this glorious moment." The older brother whispered, putting his finger to Ian's mouth. He then left his side and grabbed a bowl, handing it to Ian. "Would you care for some soggy Froot Loops?" He offered.

"Uh, I'm good. Thanks." Ian said, smiling weakly.

Barley shrugged, "Suit yourself."

Woody continued to eat the cereal as he listened to the new Pixars' conversation. He found it pretty cute, the dynamic was so fitting for the household. They were definitely going to fit in with the others.

"You know, if you guys want, we can take you for a ride, show you around San Clemente." He offered them casually, "We can start with the beach house."

Barley gasped, "You guys have a beach house?!" He laughed, "Oh, this keeps getting better and better!"

The three suddenly flinched and looked over at the hallway, having heard a loud crash coming from one of the rooms. Then it was followed by banging on the walls and many cuss words.

"Can y'all not fuck right now?? It's too early for this shit!"

"Shut the fuck up, whore!"

"QUIET I'M TRYING TO SLEEP!"

"WE ALL ARE!"

"I FUCKING HATE ALL OF YOU!"

They turned away, Ian incredibly disturbed while Woody was completely unfazed. Barley sighed and hugged his brother at his side. "Ah, I love it here already."

"I HOPE YOU GET CORONA!"

Head empty, pre-TPN season 2 thoughts only.

Normally I don’t even bother with hiding spoilers but since the new season is so close I’ll put everything below a cut (if tumblr cooperates) because I do want anime-onlys to enjoy the season with as little knowledge to what madness is about to happen as possible. This is just a bunch of notes that filled my head over the past couple days.. weeks? A long time.. and if I didn’t write them all down somewhere I wouldn’t stop thinking about them.. so if you understand this whole mess, then kudos to you.

So, here’s your post-season 1/ch37+ spoiler warning.

Demon language:

With Mujika and Sonju making their grand first appearances, I hope actually implement the demon language this time?

The only word spoken in the language in season 1 was the demon god’s name, which was just changed to “Him” (sub) or “The One” (dub), so ignoring it there was fine.

Granted, our demon friends don’t say much in their language during the upcoming arc, aside from this moment in ch48, but I can see the anime passing it off as a mere whisper between the two of them just so they don’t have to worry about it.

I don’t recall any of the GP poachers using the language though.. right? Pretty sure they don’t..

Anyways, all I’m saying is that they better figure something out by the Ayshe shows up way later in future seasons.

Episode count? 24?

Short answer: I don’t think so? Did once, but stuff happened. Anyways..

Season 1 ended in March 2019, which is also when we learned we were getting a second season and once we found later on that S2 was originally going to air in October 2020, I immediately thought we were getting about 24 eps.

I thought with all that time between seasons, 24 eps would be reasonable and that S2 would end at ch101. S1 managed to adapt 37 chapters, so 64 chapters in a season twice as long sound decent enough, right?

By the time we reach ch101, it would give us the demon forest, shelter B06-32, Goldy Pond and the short trip to Cuvitidala. (all of which would make this long wait for s2 sooo worth it btw.)

By this point we learn a bunch about the outside world, Norman being alive, what happened to Phil, and the demon bastard himself.

I bring up ch101 as a stopping point because it’s the last chapter before the two year time skip and.. I honestly can’t see them doing a time skip mid-season?

I mean, they could if they wanted to, I guess? Having everyone age up suddenly between episodes via a montage, a quick summary or even flashbacks of what we missed.. but maybe at the start of a season? Not in the middle.

Right now we know anime original scenes are going to be included into season 2 so I’m kinda hoping that once we do eventually reach the time skip we learn more about the search Emma’s group went on for T7W/golden water/temples.

I counted. If S2 does indeed get this many episodes, ep23 (or 22, if there’s a break in between somewhere or whatever) will land on my birthday and you can bet I’ll be beyond happy

HOWEVER! all the hope I once had about a 24ep season vanished due to the clusterfuck that was 2020. Thanks to the worldwide pandemic, many anime were put on hold and pushed back several months, with TPN airing this month rather than the original October date.

It was a bummer hearing about the delay at first but I never complained about it. I much rather have the studios prioritize their employee’s health over production.

Even if S2 did reach ch101, or even Goldy Pond, they would need to find a ton of new voice actors, and with how the world is working now.. eh, I have some doubts.

Cloverworks also has two other series airing this month aside from TPN so needless to say they’ll be a bit busy, especially if employees are still working from home, social distancing, or however they’re managing to produce these anime.

So, episode count.. 12?

The main reason I have a hard time grasping the idea of another 12ep season at all is because.. I don’t know where it’ll be a decent place for it to stop?

S1 ending at ch37 with the kids escaping? Perfect. You can’t question that decision. But now? When a whole bunch of craziness is about happen? How do you choose another perfect moment to end a season with?

No matter how many anime original scenes they have planned for the demon forest, I believe we’ll at least reach B06-32, which will get us to ch52.

Could they go farther? Sure. Perhaps ending at ch59-60? It would leave us off with Emma & Ray leaving the comfort of the shelter to follow Yuugo into yet another demon infested forest, much like how S1 left off, as the escapees left their once safe, comfortable life into the unknown world.

Or end at ch64? After Emma gets snatched by the poachers? It could work. It would certainly leave everyone wanting more, especially us manga readers because goddamn the GP arc would be SO close!

Perhaps ch74 after seeing Norman alive? Just so it’s not a big darn secret anymore to those who are going into this season blind? (how do people manage to stay anime only? i’m not trying to make anyone feel bad.. i’m just impressed? i caught up to the manga right after s1 because i didn’t have the self control to wait!)

Ending on that chapter would be so bittersweet to me.. because you know what appears in ch75 and it’s literally one of the only things I care about.

S2 preview trailers already teased some of the demon forest scenes I’m most excited about, so the only things left that will truly excite me are Yuugo and that darn outfit. (seriously, whenever we do get to see emma in her gp outfit for the first time, someone better scream at me so i can die from happiness.)

Okay, and all the GP kids too.. especially their trio!

Could they fit the Goldy Pond arc into a 12 episode season along with every other event that came before it? I.. seriously hope not? 

Compared to s1, which was very dialogue heavy, GP is about as action packed as we’re gonna get in the near future, and those scenes are going to fly by once they get put into motion.

Quick example (because it was recent and i can’t think of something else atm): the Overhaul arc from My Hero Academia. Off the top my head it was about 40 total ch? That arc took up half of the show’s S4, which was a total 25 eps.

So with the GP ending at ch96, it’ll give us about 20-30 chapters (depending on where you personally see the start of this arc I guess? once yuugo leads the duo through the forest, when emma gets snatched or when the battle actually starts)

If GP were to happen in s2 where there’s 12 episodes.. literally everything would be so fast paced and I don’t want them to rush anything or leave stuff out?

Other options?

It’s very wishful thinking and I would be getting my hopes up for nothing, because I know it won’t happen, but I could possibly see them fitting GP arc if S2 was made up of 18eps?

6 eps for the demon forest, 6 for Goldy pPond, the remaining 6 to accommodate B06-32, Cuvitidala and any other anime original scenes as they wish.

Although fitting about 64 chapters into 12-18 episodes sounds a bit much.. but not really? I seriously have no idea at this point how much story we’re going to cover this season.

Could I perhaps place all my hopes towards a second cour later this year? Like for the summer.. or would I be expecting too much?

This all could’ve been avoided if they just tell us! Seriously, I’ve been thinking about episode count since last year.. and now you have to deal with this mindless chatter of mine.

I’d honestly be okay with another 12ep season though. We waited this long that I’ll just be excited to see all the children again.

Anime-only scenes:

Those 3 days the children spent learning from our demon friends? Yes please! Did you know Emma not only learned how to use a bow and arrow but a freakin’ harpoon as well? Like.. hello?? I must see this!

Perhaps they’ll even adopt some of the extra pages from some of the chapters, like they did in S1 with the flashback of Norman being sick in ep10.

I know this will be such a high hope, but I remember in ch177 how Emma claims that after they escaped, they all remembered how kind Isabella really was, so if they decide to adapt the extras from ch41-42 & ch45, I’ll cry.

And these pages? Cloverworks, please..

I’m literally begging here..

Especially these two! Even though I still doubt we’ll reach Goldy Pond if we get 12eps.. but in the future! Please!

Other random nonsense:

I may or may not get emotional upon seeing Isabella at the very start when she goes to confront Grandma Sarah. If her hair is kept down as it was at the end of S1 then I’ll give the anime staff my sincere thanks.

We only heard 15 seconds of “Identity” and yet it has been living in my head rent free ever since that trailer dropped. I need to hear the full song sooo damn badly, y’all have no idea.

Here’s hoping they don’t cut out the inner monologues again. At this moment I don’t remember any specific ones from the demon forest I want to see but I’m sure they’re present.

I’m ready to die at every cute Chris moment they give us.. and this entire scene where the kids scold Ray. 

Literally every scene with Emma & Ray. They’re my top 2 favorites from this series okay? Of course I’m going to fangirl over them. (they already showed the hug in one of the trailers and i damn near cried)

In terms of situational CD’s, I don’t really have much experience, and there were a lot of embarrassing lines and sound effects, and I seriously totally turned red. I read the lines with a lot of embarrassment, but in the end, I did it. Yeah, uh, yeah I hope you also think that Vincent was done well, yup.

Second, if you became a vampire and had eternity, what would you do?

To be honest, I don’t really like the concept of eternity? Since everyone would die, and then you would become lonely, again and again you will lose people as you live, but you yourself cannot properly be dead. Ah, but then again if I had eternity, well hm, what should I do. What would I do?

On top of a mountain...I want to look over the people of the world below… sort of like a hermit. Yeah, I want to be a wise hermit! Yup.

Third is a question about how if I was a painter like Vincent, what sort of painting would I make, and whether or not I’m good at art.

Ah hmm, if I was a painter like Vincent, first I would want to make some human portraits. Well, I’m just average at art — I think that I’m at a level normal people are at, so haha I’m not really that good. But something like human portraits, and landscape paintings like Vincent does, something like that? I want to make something like that.

Ahh, well I’m not good at art but if it’s a painting like Vincent, like van Gogh would do, then surely it’ll take an enormous amount of time for me to accomplish one painting. Honestly I’m not that particularly passionate about art, so I want to take my time when making portraits, or landscapes, or stuff like that.

A translation megathread of the zakki:re Q&A contest letters Ishida sent back to winning contestants!

As far as I know there were 100 winners, though I only have around 40 in this post. There were more on Twitter, but some opted not to release them publicly on Twitter for personal reasons (such as if they asked personal questions). Some didn’t reveal their question, or all of Ishida’s replies, but I’ve tried my best to guess at their meaning if possible.

The ones I’ll post here are from Twitter, specifically if they came with pictures of Ishida’s art or handwritten replies. I’ll also mention some context if I felt that the conversation/topic between the OPs and Ishida was interesting.

“I can’t make it out,” you said into the speaker of your phone.

You were currently swamped with so much work. Like a lunatic, you decided that two seasons in fashion was not enough and that although you’d debuted your Spring/Summer 21′ line last year at New York Fashion Week, and a preview of your Fall/Winter 21′ line that spring at Paris Fashion Week it wasn’t enough. You’d been planning for the last three weeks an added Summer fling fashion show. You’d invited all the top designers to take part and unexpectedly you’d received an alarming number of confirmations.

You didn’t think this close to the show things would still be this hectic, but the best laid plans of mice and men usually go awry. Chris didn’t respond for several long moments. The chaos around you distracted you for a moment but you stared at the phone on your desk.

“Baby?”

Chris sighed loudly and you could feel his disappointment. Your heart sank. Closing your eyes you pinched your nose bridge. “Did you hear me?”

“Yeah, I heard you Y/N.” He rarely used your name. It was usually terms of endearment and it told you he was not happy. You looked to your staff and fanned them off. Slowly they all walked out of the room giving you the privacy you needed.

“God, baby I’m so sorry. I didn’t expect things to be this insane. I tried so hard to make it work but--.” Chris cut you off.

“It’s fine, I understand. You’re busy and this show is important.”

“You’re important too, babe,” you interjected.

“Yeah, but it’s just a day. I’ll be fine.” He didn’t sound as if he was convinced of it and that made you feel even worse.

“Babe--,” again Chris cut you off.

“I gotta go Y/N, I’m getting called to set. I love you.”

“I love you too birthday boy. Wanna Facetime tonight and I’ll try to make it up to you?” Chris released an unamused snort before he responded.

With that, he hung up. There was no back and forth debate over who should hang up first or any exchanging of nauseating kissy sounds, just a disconnected line. Sighing, you closed your eyes and tried to compartmentalize what you were feeling--like the worst girlfriend in the world.

“What’s with the long face?” He sighed and shook his head.

“Nothing, I’m good Seb.”

“You don’t look good. Finally feeling like the old man you are eh?”

He scoffed and shook his head again. “Wow, real classy there.” Seb shrugged then laughed.

“Okay, so if it’s not you depressing over turning yet another year older or the bones creaking and back spasming then what is it?”

“Nothing, I told you I’m fine.”

The two of them had just finished filming the last scene for the night and were in the chauffeured car on the way to their hotel. He was ready to call it a night. Everyone for the entire day had been great. From when he walked onto set he was greeted with “happy birthdays”, and even some “feliz cumpleanos.” There were plenty of sweet treats, laughs, and stories through the day that kept him in good enough spirits but the fact that he wasn’t going to see you today was a major kick in the gut.

He’d been in Atlanta for three months and had seen you maybe two times because of how busy you both were. He couldn’t fly out to you which meant you had to do all the traveling and with your fashion commitments you weren’t able to swing it often. It was going on a month since he last physically saw you without the aid of Facetime or some other video app. He missed you. He missed your scent, he missed seeing your clothes lying around, he missed the feel of your hand in his, he missed the taste of your lips and how perfectly you fit in his arms. He simply missed you--everything about you.

When they made it to the hotel he was again a quiet, brooding scrooge and all he wanted to do was just shower and sleep. Yet, he was walking with Seb toward the bar.

“Just two drinks and you can go be a depressing sod.”

“Thanks, Seb,” he sarcastically chided.

Seb shrugged and opened the doors to the hotel bar. When he did the room was dark for a moment before the lights turned on and everyone jumped up throwing confetti at him shouting “happy birthday.”

He was shocked and his expression showed it. Soon a swarm of co-star, cast members, friends surrounded him and gave him hugs and led him in small talk. He was grateful for all of them and the trouble they’d gone through. He couldn’t help but look around the room hoping somehow you were there, but you weren’t.

For the next few hours, he tried to put on a neutral face and attempted to enjoy himself the best he could. After an hour he’d gotten some drinks in him and it helped to numb some of the disappointment. As the jokes and stories became more and more rumbustious everyone began having a great time.

“Seb said you were depressing about your birthday, why?”

He rolled his eyes at Mackie and Hemsworth. Leave it to Seb to spread the gossip. “I’m not depressing about my birthday. I’m fine,” he lied.

“What time is Y/N coming in?”

When he took a drink from his beer instead of answering Hemsworth got his answer.

“Ah, I see the problem now. Spill it, my friend,” he added.

“She’s not coming. She can’t make it out her fashion line is taking my time--her time.”

“It’s been a while right?”

He nodded and finished the bottle of beer no longer in the partying mood. “Well you knew who she was before you got together. You knew she put a lot of attention into her work. You can’t be mad at her for it,” Mackie expressed. He sighed and rolled his eyes because he knew it was true. He fell for you because of your independence and the fact you had a life outside of him. He still loved that about you just today was different. Today, he hated this fact about you.

“Yeah, yeah, I know. I just want my girlfriend with me on my birthday. That’s not asking too much right?”

All eyes fell to him from his slightly drunk outburst. He nodded, it was time for him to go. Standing up on wobbly knees, he said his goodbyes to his friends and co-workers then made it to the door. Once he got to the elevator he leaned on the wall. Things were spinning and he was regretting drinking as much as he did. When the doors opened Seb and Mackie were there to steady him.

“You’ll be all right,” Seb assured as he pressed “17″.

The ride up was a chatter filled one. Both men talked and joked and went from topic to topic. He barely heard any of what they said until Seb brought up one of the extras on set today and then he and Mackie proceeded to encourage him to finally make a move. It had been an annoying and painful three week slow burn. It was clear they both wanted to a roll in the hay.

When the doors opened the three of them walked down the hall, Seb and Mackie shifted him between the two of them making sure he didn’t fall flat on his face. He wasn’t hammered drunk, but he was drunk enough to see doubles. As they got the door he dug out the key card and slid it into the slot. The door opened and he walked inside. He dropped onto the chair and groaned before he flipped on the lamp. When the room lit up stood in the center of the room completely naked except the whipped cream you wore in a makeshift bikini. It was just like the whipped cream bikini he’d worn in Not Another Teen Movie.

“Surprise!”

“Woah!” Mackie and Seb turned their backs as soon as they realized what was happening.

“Y/N?”

“Oh my god!” You quickly hurried to a wall and hid behind it. “Fuck!”

“Hey Y/N,” Seb exclaimed.

“Hi--Sebastian, Anthony.”

“We didn’t see anything,” Mackie offered.

“Okay.”

“All right, we’re gonna go. Enjoy your night birthday boy,” Mackie said in a sarcastic tone before he and Seb walked back out the door.

“Coast is clear,” he assured.

You walked back out and his eyes lit up as he took in your full get up. he whistled long before a wide grin spread across his face.

“I’m here, of course I’m here. Where else would I be on your birthday?” His tongue slowly snaked across his lips, his eyes still ravaging you. A chill ran down your spine, he looked at you like you were the most precious jewel in the world and it gave you butterflies.

“So--do you like your cake?”

Chris stood and walked to you with a slight wobble then walked around you taking it all in.

“Are you drunk Chris?” He used his fingers to measure a small amount as he squinted his eyes for emphasis. You snorted and shook your head.

“You look good enough to eat.” He crooked his eyebrow to show his intention. You smiled and bit your bottom lip.

“Do I now?” He nodded his head and tipped his tongue out across your breast taking a hefty strip of whipped cream into his mouth and moaned.

“Guess I better get to eating.”

With that he dropped down to his knees and within seconds you could tell just how ravenous he was.

Space AU previews

For the wonderful @hexadecimal00. Here are previews of the 3 space AUs I currently have in the works. This includes the start of chapter 1 for each of them. None of these have been edited yet, so they may contain errors.

Starbound: 

Kakashi flipped through the folder that Tenzo had dropped on his desk. “Why am I being handed a file for a twelve year old?”

“Because said twelve year old damaged the air recycling unit in sector seven. He says it was a prank, but someone higher up thinks it warrants an investigation.” His kohai told him as he sat down across from him. “And you get the crap assignment since you pissed Ibiki off.”

The silver haired man wanted to groan. He knew he should have taken that mission to Snow when he’d had the chance. “You know that wasn’t my fault, Tenz. Genma was the one drunk off his ass who thought it was a good idea to mess with his desk.”

 “Yeah, but you didn’t stop him, so he’d holding you partially responsible. Next time, rat the asshole out. You know how he gets when he drinks.” Kakashi stared down at the assignment in his hands. Yeah, he knew how Genma was and how pissed Ibiki would be.

“Who the hell is Iruka Umino?” He was listed as his point of contact for the investigation. He was listed as a chunin, but there was no other information.

Tenzo shrugged. “Don’t know, but it sounds like your problem.”

“You’re so cruel, kohai!” Kakashi snapped the file shut and headed for the door. “See if I ever take you out for drinks or dinner again.”

“Again? Last time, you conveniently forgot your wallet. The time before that you accidentally let the waiter scan my chip for the bill. I can’t afford going out with you anymore, you ass.” He made a rude gesture towards his senpai.

Kakashi blew him a kiss as the door shut behind him. Naruto Uzumaki was the nightmare of sector seven and now the boy was his problem. He pushed aside the twinge of guilt that rose up as he thought of his mentor, Minato. Now wasn’t the time for regrets. Civilians and soldiers alike gave him a wide berth as he walked through the halls of the space station. Konoha was one of the largest stations in the galaxy and the pride and joy of the Daimyo. It orbited the planet of Fire and was home to a large section of Fire’s shinobi. There were several civilian sections as well, those critical to helping run the station.

His first step was finding this Iruka Umino and finding out how a chunin got saddled with the problem child. The guards at the sector entrance didn’t even stop him. It helped that he was well known in Konoha. The large scar that bisected his eye and silver hair made him easily recognizable. He stopped at the first computer he came across and typed in the chunin’s name, scanning his chip to gain access to the man’s location on the station. He frowned when it directed him to a classroom. He double checked the directions and confirmed the chunin was supposed to be there.

It was late enough in the day that there were no children in the room when he entered. He found a dark-haired man slumped over the desk grading what looked like schoolwork. “Iruka Umino?” He looked up at Kakashi, a bit startled. A scar cut across his tanned face, adding a roguish element to an otherwise plain looking face. He was cute with his hair pulled out of his face, not that Kakashi had taken note of that. He was wearing a standard uniform for a chunin, but he filled it out well. Kakashi shook himself, reminding himself he wasn’t here to check the man out. “I’m Kakashi Hatake. I’m here to talk to you about the incident involving Naruto Uzumaki.”

Far, Far Away (inspired by the Mandalorian):

The cantina feel silent as he entered, but that was common. Half of the so called customers were probably in someones’ bingo book, which meant the sight of his armor and mask was enough to bring their focus entirely on him. His fingers ached to touch his blaster, an old habit that he found soothing, but he’d better not risk it with this crowd. They looked trigger happy. His current bounty wasn’t any of them so he ignored them, other than to assess them for threats. No, he had his eyes set on one Iruka Umino, barkeep of this particular shit hole. He recognized him immediately by the scar that bisected his face. This job was too easy.

He could feel the gaze of everyone in the cantina as he slowly made his way to his target. Instead of engaging him outright, he took a seat at the bar. The tension in the room immediately became more relaxed as it became clear he wasn’t there to fight, not yet at least. Iruka made his way over to him, face full of forced cheer. “What can I get you?” He asked with a smile. Wolf could see the fear behind that smile, but his voice had been steady. His face was too open, too easy to read, but he had guts enough to speak directly to him. Interesting.

“Information,” he said simply.

Iruka laughed. “Well, I don’t know what information you think you’re going to get out here, ANBU, but I can tell you what I know. For a price of course.” Everyone had their price. It was a lesson Wolf had learn far too well over the years.

“Just trying to track down some parts to fix my ship. Figured this was the best place to start asking around.” It was a plausible enough cover story. His ship was older and constantly in need of repairs. If you broke down in a backwater place like this, parts would be hard to come by.

“You’re in luck then. We had one place that you might be able to scavenge a few things from. It’s mostly scraps, so hopefully you can scrap together what you need. If you need something more, you’re going to have to head into the main city. You can rent a speeder, get there in a few hours.” The man sounded like he genuinely wanted to help, which was perplexing. The kind man in front of him did not match the information he’d been given. Maybe he had a better poker face then he’d first assumed.

Wolf slid a handful of credits across the bar. “Think you can take me there once you get off?”

Iruka leaned across the bar, getting far closer than most dared to. “Depends, you going to help me with that?” Help him with what? He wondered before realizing his choice of words. So he wanted to flirt, eh? Not the first to get off on the thought of being with an ANBU.

“Depends. Is that extra?” The words left his mouth before he could second guess himself. He wasn’t much of a flirter, but his efforts paid off when the man laughed.

“You can’t afford me, ANBU.”

“Call me Wolf.”

Safety First:

Kakashi almost hated going back home because it was always more of a headache than it was worth. Admiral Sarutobi had ordered him back for a debriefing after his latest incident with Sand. There had been a lot of run ins with them over the last six months as they had stepped up border surveillance. Their Admiral had been acting oddly for months and the higher ups were worried something was going on. Sand had few livable planets in their system, but their access to rare materials made them important enough to be a part of the Galactic Alliance. Though the GA was more or less worthless in Kakashi’s eyes since it wasn’t a true alliance and had done little to stop the last few wars.

His vessel was refueling which gave him just enough time to stop by his favorite bookstore and grab a bite to eat. As much as he loved Konoha, he ached to be off world. Too many memories here. He pushed aside his dark thoughts and focused on his excitement about finally picking up Jiraiya's newest book. He was already a decent way into the book by the time he headed back to the hangar where Konoha’s Pride was docked. Refueling should be done which meant he could leave within the next hour. Since it was just a quick stop, his crew had mostly opted to stay onboard.

His cheery mood lasted until he saw Anko waiting for him with a man he only vaguely recognized, surrounded by several bags. She used to be a good field agent and probably would have made captain if she hadn’t taken on a desk job. They were friendly enough, but she looked like she was here in a professional capacity. Anko worked in the Tower which meant he as much as he’d hoped he’d be able to leave without further bureaucracy, she was most likely coming to add more crap to his plate.

“Captain Hatake, it’s been a while.” Anko grinned at him as he approached. He wished he could share her enthusiasm. “I tried to catch you before you left, but you really booked at after your meeting with Admiral Sarutobi.” He shrugged rather than responding to her. Maybe if he didn’t add anything she would get to the point faster. “Right, well, I wanted to introduce you to your new CO.” She gestured to the man standing next to her.

“CO?” He asked finally taking stock of the other man. He was younger than Kakashi by a few years, well groomed, and had a very serious look on his face. The only thing of note about him was the scar that bisected his face.

“Compliance Officer. The Admiral should have mentioned you were getting a new crew member. He will be over seeing any safety issues on Konoha’s Pride.” He half recalled the old man mentioning something about some staffing changes. He honestly hadn’t paid much attention to the information.

“No thanks. I don’t need a CO. I decide what happens on my vessel.” He said, dismissively.

“1257. An exploratory vessel, Destiny, was returning from a mission on Gamma 5. The captain received a report that there were some electrical fluctuations. He decided they weren’t a safety issue and the crew entered cryo sleep. The fluctuations caused their alarm system to fail. During this time their oxygen recycling system went down. A secondary alarm system managed to wake the crew, but hypoxia had already set in. The entire crew of 57 died. I could name a dozen more incidents like this, but that won’t be necessary since Konoha's council has deemed it necessary for every vessel to have a CO, even military vessels. So you really have no say in the matter, Captain Hatake.” The man was smiling, but there was a hardness behind his words.

Kakashi tried to stare him down, but he didn’t even flinch. Maybe he has dismissed the man too quickly before. “I will be speaking to the Admiral about this.”

“Please send my regards to Admiral Sarutobi. I’ll be boarding now, if that’s fine with you, Captain.” He was still utterly polite, but Kakashi felt like he’d just been told to fuck off.

These are still in the works as I am trying to finish up some of my older stuff, but I just wanted to share some of what I’ve been working on.
