Abby loved Owen, truly. She was attracted to him: that is what she kept convincing herself of everyday.
Every moment with Owen was a new lie she fed herself.
He was the man she loved. There was nothing she doubted in her relationship with him. The absence of loveâs warmth meant to fill her body was her own fault; her inability to reach climax when they had sex was a problem for which only she was to blame.
It doesnât mean she never tried, though. Abby had spent nights attempting to pleasure herself to the thought of Owen: the only person she should be thinking of; the only person supposed to be capable of reaching her to her climax.
And yet, all she felt was nothing. She laid in her bed, carnal and romantical dissatisfaction utterly consuming her. She was convinced that she was simply incapable of experiencing any sort of attraction exceeding platonicity.
But it only grew more confusing from there.
In another one of her inevitably futile attempts of bringing herself to climax to the thought of Owen, she felt her mind begin to drift to another thought that would hopefully bring her to that much desired release.
She didnât intend for it to, but the man was just not doing it for her.
That night, she thought of a woman.
That night, she came so hard she swore she could see stars.
A specific woman she thought of in particular, but she would never admit who it was that finally relieved that ache. Not even in the confines of her own thoughts.
And so here she found herself, seated on the soft cushion of your worn-out couch.
You were Abbyâs sole friend who was openly lesbian. Abby had seen you bring women over numerous times before. She had listened to your rants about your sexual and romantic encounters with women.
She even helped set you up with one, which harbored a slight odd feeling in the pit of her stomach for a reason she couldnât quite decipher.
She had thought of it many times: what it was like being with a woman. She didnât really know what to make of those thoughts. Whether it was mere curiosity, or perhaps something more.
And now here she sat next to you, trying to find the confidence to speak.
She never found it hard to confide in you. Of course not, you were her dearest friend. But this dilemma of hers was difficult to merely utter aloud, even if it is only to herself.
You were on your phone when Abby spoke.
âSo⌠youâre gay,â she started, and she wanted to strike herself as soon as the words left her mouth, because of course you were gay. What kind of opening is that?
âGood observation?â You chuckled, bemused. You placed your phone down, curious as to where she was going with this.
âWhatâs it like? You know, being with a woman,â she asked, already regretting bringing it up, but she just needed some certainty.
Your eyebrows twisted in confusion at the inquiry. You and Abby were comfortable enough to share anything with each other. Nothing was considered too much information or too uncomfortable to talk about.
It was just an odd question coming from Abby, who you thought was so sure of her sexuality.
âI guess itâs like how it feels for you being with a man.â
God, she hoped not.
âWhy?â You asked.
âJust curious, thatâs all. Wanna understand your sexuality more, educate myself,â she spoke rather timidly.
You laughed softly. âOh, because youâre so woke, right?â
Abby could tell you didnât believe her. In all fairness, she didnât really put much effort into trying to sound the least bit credible.
She didnât even know why she was lying to you right now. She trusted you, she always has. This was just a difficult truth to face.
âI donât know. Iâm just feeling a little confused, I guess,â she confessed, shrugging.
âAbout your sexuality?â Your voice was slow, but your heart beat quicker than ever before.
You would be lying if you said you didnât find Abby attractive. Youâve always had a little childish crush on the blonde, but you constantly found yourself trying to shove your feelings aside, somewhere far away so it could no longer reach to gnaw at your heart.
But now this â this made it all different. You might be getting slightly ahead of yourself, but you canât help but think that now you might have the smallest chance with her.
âI donât knowâ I mean, yeah, I guess,â she said as she fiddled with the seams of her shirt. âOwenâs just never really made me feel⌠well, anything. Anything youâre supposed to feel with a partner, I donât feel it. I thought maybe the problem was Owen specifically, but Iâve come to realize that itâs not.â
âBut women get you going?â
âI think so,â she admitted, finally. âI tried to think about a woman last night, while, you knowâŚâ she trailed off, her skin suddenly feeling very hot at the confession.
âAnd?â You whispered, feeling just as hot at her confession. âWas it just what you were missing?â
Abby went quiet for a moment, then she answered. âYeah, it was.â
It was silent. Abby still looked like she had something to say, so you offered no response for a moment.
âBut how could I know? Iâve never tried anything romantic or sexual with another woman, so how would I be able to tell? I could just be confused,â she said.
You were quiet, contemplating your next words. What you were about to do could either ruin your friendship, or elevate it to something more. You were relying on the latter.
âYou wanna try?â You asked. Your voice sounded bold, but everything within you was shaking with apprehension.
She offered naught but an incredulous look. Her eyes were blown wide, disbelieving.
âWhat?â
Well, shit.
âI mean, solely for experimental purposes, of course. A kiss shared with another woman, just to be certain,â you explained.
The tension was thick, almost palpable. You were nervous at Abbyâs silence and you realized that this is where your boldness gets you.
You were ready for her harsh rejection and the revulsion that would surely be evident in her voice, but then she spoke.
âOkay,â she said. Not a hint of revulsion in her tone. You didnât know it, but her heart beat just as quick as yours.
âReally?â You asked, surprised as if you hadnât been the one to offer.
âWell, yeah,â she leaned in slightly, bringing her face closer to yours. âJust for experimental purposes, right?â
âYeah, sure,â you breathed. You brought your face to hers, and in a split second you closed the gap between you, meeting each other in a slow kiss, your eyes fluttering shut.
Her lips were soft. Her kiss felt nervous, lacking confidence, yet it still exceeded every expectation.
You pulled away once you felt it was enough. You looked at her and waited for what she had to say.
âOh yeah, Iâm definitely gay,â she said and pushed your face right back into hers, meeting your lips in a much more heated kiss.
This kiss, however, held the confidence the previous one lacked, her lips moving skillfully against yours. You waited for the shock to wear off before kissing her back, clearly not expecting her to want more.
You disconnected your lips once again, pulling her face away from yours. âAbbyââ
âJust need-â she interrupted her own words to press another swift peck to your lips. âA little more-â another kiss. âJust to make sure,â she said, finally and pulled you in for another kiss. She cupped your burning cheeks with her palms and slipped her tongue into your mouth.
What was supposed to be an innocent kiss, solely for the sake of experiment (how the thought made you laugh now), turned into her exploring your mouth with her tongue and pushing her body against yours. This kiss held no place for innocence now.
She softly moaned into your mouth, the sound vibrating throughout your body.
She used her thumb to lightly caress your cheek as she kissed you like her life depended on it. She slightly pulled apart then, nibbling on your bottom lip with her teeth.
As the kiss came to an end, you sat staring at each other, breathless, and oh so blissful.
âYou wanna know something?â Abby asked with a dumb smile on her face which brought another smile upon your own. You hummed.
âIt was you,â she started, still faintly breathless. âYou were who I thought of.â
Your eyebrows rose at the confession. It was unexpected, but certainly not disliked.
What you were more surprised at, though, was how casually she said it, seemingly too blissed out at the moment for any feeling of embarrassment.
âYou telling me I was your gay awakening?â You asked, grinning.
âYou could say that.â She shrugged and scratched at the back of her neck.
You laughed and scooted closer to her. âWell, I guess Iâm honored then,â you said.
âAlright,â she rolled her eyes and laughed. She leaned in then, craving more of your taste.
You giggled into the kiss and pulled away, licking your lips to savor her intoxicating taste.
âI think weâve already come to the conclusion that youâre gay. You still want more?â
She brought her face closer again and caressed your cheeks. She was close enough that you could feel her breath against your lips.
âYes,â she breathed. âNow shut up and let me kiss you.â

thereâs been no way for me to say (that i felt a certain way)
Synopsis: natasha romanoff has loved you for ages and she could never seem to get it right.
pairings: natasha romanoff x reader
genre: college AU, fluff and angst.
warnings: angst?
please do not repost my work anywhere for any reason at all. if you do see this happen to any of my stories, please let me know. thank you x.
natasha met you in a very peculiar way.
it started at a friends of a friends party, in some internet starletâs brooklyn loft.
drinks were going around, the music was loud, the smell of marijuana was very strong. she doesnât quite remember itâ after having been to a bunch of parties they all seem to blur into oneâ but she knows it was enough to leave a lasting impression on her.
sheâd heard your piercing laugh from across the room. you, in a tight tank top and some black slacks. she could see the shine of sweat against your skin, the colorful lighting of the room making you seem so beautifully human.
everything sort of froze in the coming moments. she watched as you took your top off without a second thought. you were about to shotgun a beer and you stood tall as you did it atop the kitchen island. you didnât need the attention, nor did you want it, but you had it.
it was a simple behavior. but it stayed with natasha long after you had crushed the beer can and tossed it on the floor somewhere.
natasha thinks you never notice her staring for the rest of the night but you do.
weeks later she sees you again at another party.
clint, wanda, tony and everyone else joins her this time. she isnât surprised when she sees you. it was the same crowd, similar friend groups. but this time you made it easy for her to approach you.
somehow you end standing next to eachother near where all the drinks had been laid out.
"hey," you said, voice casual but warm. "didnât expect to see you here again."
natasha smiled, though she hadnât expected to talk to you at all. nor did she think you noticed her. "i guess we have similar taste in parties."
you laughed lightly. âguess so."
there was a beat of silence before you added, âyou know, you were kinda staring at me last time.â
natasha froze for a second, unsure how to respond. she hadnât thought youâd noticed. but before she could stammer out an excuse, you were already grinning.
âiâm just messing with you. it was funny. i didnât think anyone would care enough to notice me.â
natasha was relieved, yet still unsure if you were actually joking. either way she felt this was going better than she planned.
the night wore on and you guys carried easy conversation. natasha was still unsure how to even approach talking to you. she felt kind of shy. so she improvised by making references to things she didnât think youâd get, but you almost always did.
you dropped a reference to something obscure, a movie natasha had once obsessed over, and natasha stared at you for a moment longer than was socially acceptable. she couldnât stop herself.
âyouâre really into that, huh?â she said, and just like that, the bond started to form. it wasnât immediate or instant, not the kind of connection that screams âbest friends forever.â no, it was something stranger, something subtler, like two different puzzle pieces that had almost fit, only to get pushed back together by sheer happenstance.
âyour references are spot on.â you laughed. natasha smiled at how easy you made it for her to be around you.
you and natasha started seeing each other more, slowly building this weird, unspoken routine. sheâd text you at random, making some kind of sarcastic comment or joke only you would get, and youâd shoot back a meme that only someone with your specific sense of humor would understand. over time, you both ended up in the same circles, passing each other in the hallways of the university, at class, at partiesâalways just a little bit more than acquaintances, but never quite crossing into the territory of âbest friends.â
there was something comfortable about it. easy, even. but for natasha, it was also strange. the more she saw you, the more she felt like there was something else there, something neither of you wanted to acknowledge. maybe it was a crush. maybe it was more than that.
it wasnât as though either of you had been completely oblivious to the passing of time, to the fact that you were both growing older, moving through college with the same bittersweetness that everyone else felt. and yet, there was still this distance between you, an unspoken barrier that neither of you had broken down.
natasha thought about you a lot more than sheâd like to admit. how she so badly wanted to cross the line between friendship and something more.
by senior year, natasha couldnât ignore it anymore. her feelings for you werenât just fleeting glances or passing thoughts. they were there, constant, sitting beneath her skin, running through her mind like a song she couldnât shake. but it wasnât just a crush. it was more. she could feel it. she knew it.
the desperation kept getting worse.
it was a slow burn.
you were months set from graduating, natasha felt it was time sheâd try to test her luck.
it was late into the evening at yet another partyâmusic blaring, laughter echoing through the crowded living room, and cups of cheap beer littering the tables. one last semester before graduation, before the "real world" set in. natasha was sitting on the couch, leaning against the back with her legs stretched out in front of her. her eyes roamed the room, scanning for someone to talk to. and then she saw you.
you were in the middle of a conversation with clint and wanda, your hands animatedly gesturing as you told some wild story about a disastrous trip to the beach, the kind of tale that had everyone in stitches. natasha couldnât help but smile from across the room. there was something magnetic about youâhow you lived so fully, how you pulled everyone into your orbit without even trying. natasha had been watching you for months now, always on the edge of your space, always wishing she could be more than just a silent observer.
she didnât know when it startedâwhen the simple admiration had turned into something else. but now, as she watched you laugh with your friends, something in her chest tightened. this wasnât a crush she could just ignore.
it wasnât the first time natasha had thought about asking you out. but tonight felt different. maybe it was the proximity of graduation, the sudden realization that this was itâthat you both were on the brink of leaving behind this chaotic, unmoored time in your lives. she could either stay on the sidelines or take the chance.
she stood up, smoothing out her jacket and walking across the room. her friendsâclint, wanda, and samânoticed her approaching and exchanged knowing glances, all but daring her to make a move. natasha could feel the weight of their stares, but she ignored them. she focused only on you.
"hey," she said, stepping into the conversation, a little breathless from the nerves sheâd kept hidden.
you turned, giving her that warm smile you always did. "hey, nat! whatâs up?"
"not much, just wanted to, uh, ask you something," natasha began, her usual confidence faltering just a little.
âi was thinking about heading to this bar later, just to get away from all⌠this,â she gestured vaguely to the party around them, âand i was wondering if you wanted to join me? for drinks. just us. you know, before we all get caught up in the whole graduation mess.â
it was casual, maybe too casual. but natasha didnât want to make it seem like a big deal. not with everyone watching.
there was a pause, just a beat too long, before you looked at her, a faint frown pulling at your brow. you were processing. âuh,â you hesitated, glancing at your friends.
clint, wanda, and sam all turned their heads at the same time, giving you the slightest raise of their brows. you bit your lip, clearly unsure, and natashaâs heart sank a little at the hesitation.
"i mean," you said slowly, looking back at natasha. "weâre friends, nat. i just⌠iâm not sure."
it was a gentle rejection, but it stung all the same. natasha swallowed, masking her disappointment with a shrug. "no, yeah, of course. no pressure." she let out a quiet laugh, her hand rubbing the back of her neck, trying to laugh it off. "i was just messing with you. don't worry about it."
you nodded, a small, apologetic smile on your lips. "i mean, iâd love to hang out more, justâ"
"totally fine," natasha interrupted, her voice light but edged with something that made her own heart ache. she smiled, keeping it neutral. "maybe some other time."
she turned away quickly, but she felt your eyes on her as she walked back to the couch, her friends watching the entire scene unfold. clint raised his brows, and natasha just shook her head, not wanting to give them the satisfaction of knowing how deeply that small exchange had affected her.
but inside, it stung. it stung more than she cared to admit. it wasnât just a small rejection. it was the fear that maybe you had noticed her feelings all along and were just too scared to say anything about it.
that night, natasha tried to sleep, but her thoughts wouldnât stop racing. you were everything she had wanted, but in this strange, liminal space, neither of you had been brave enough to admit it.
weeks passed, the semester came to an end, and graduation day loomed on the horizon. natasha and you both moved on in your own ways, starting to make plans for life after college. but something lingered. something unsaid. life became a little more faster, and faces got a little older.
you reached out to her a few times. it was never the same as before. it was different now, with this strange tension lingering between you both. but you kept in touch, as if you both were afraid of letting go of something that might have been, something that might have still been.
and maybe it was ridiculous, natasha thought, but she was okay with it. she had loved you for years, and maybe that was the most honest thing she could admit to herself.
because even if you two had never been the closest of people, youâd always been there. always in the background, always in between. and somehow, that was enough for natasha. enough for her to hold on to the hope that maybe, one day, youâd both be able to finally figure it out.
it had been two years since you both left the university. two years where natasha had started a career in marketing, constantly moving up, climbing the corporate ladder while trying (and failing) to suppress the things she didnât want to feel about you. she had dated, of course. a couple of short-term relationships, nothing serious. but nothing had ever lasted, and she had never quite understood why until now. the answer had always been there, hovering just out of reach, in the form of a text, a call, a passing thought about you.
as for you, youâd moved across the country for a job in graphic design. you didnât think much about natasha at first. life had been busyânew city, new friends, new routineâbut every now and then, you'd wonder if she'd thought of you. if she remembered how everything had felt when you were both on the brink of something, but never quite dared to cross the line.
and then it happened.
it wasnât planned. it wasnât expected. but one saturday evening, natasha found herself sitting at a bar in brooklyn after a long week at work. sheâd had a rough day. one of those days where everything felt like too much. and then, as she nursed her gin and tonic, she heard someone call her name.
it was a voice she hadnât heard in what felt like forever.
ânatasha?â
she turned, already recognizing the voice before she even saw your face. and there you were, standing in the doorway of the bar like a memory coming to life. your hair had grown a little longer, and you looked different, older in a way that made Natashaâs heart skip a beat. but you were still youâthe same you who had been in those parties, those late-night study sessions, the one who had always made her laugh with a look or a passing reference.
for a moment, neither of you said anything. just stood there, eyes locking, as if trying to figure out whether this was real.
i didnât know you were in new york,â natasha said, her voice betraying the sudden weight in her chest. she couldnât keep the smile from forming, even though she tried.
âi wasnât planning on being,â you said, grinning. âwork sent me here for a few weeks. i was meeting some friends, but itâs been a while, so i thought iâd just see if you were around.â
it wasnât exactly casual. but you both knew it wasnât entirely random, either. it felt like fate had decided that you two were finally going to do this.
you sat down, and the conversation flowed as naturally as it always had. the awkwardness of the past melted away. you didnât need to pretend anymore. there were no more games, no more hesitations.
just you and natasha, picking up where you left off, though this time, the space between you felt a little different. there was an understanding now, a quiet knowing in the way you both spoke, a recognition that time had done its job.
âsoâŚhowâs life?â natasha asked, pushing her drink aside and leaning in a little closer.
you shrugged, but there was something different about you too, something less guarded. âitâs been alright. busy. but you know how that goes. iâve been thinking about home, though. aboutââ you paused, then looked directly at natasha. âabout people i should have kept in touch with.â
natashaâs heart was thudding in her chest, but she kept it together. she was a master of hiding emotions, after all. âyeah?â she asked, her voice softer now.
âyeah,â you said, with a smile that made natashaâs stomach flutter. âitâs funny how things work out. you donât realize what you miss until youâre standing in front of it again.â
time had always been a strange thing between natasha and youâsomething both distant and close at the same time, like a thread that wound its way through your lives, never quite snapping, always lingering. youâd known each other for years, seen each other at parties, shared quiet moments, and laughed at the same jokes. but all that time, there had always been a hesitation. a space between the two of you, filled with somethingâsomething both of you had been aware of but had never dared to name.
it was the kind of thing that was easier to ignore in college, easier to pretend it wasnât there while you were both busy with classes, with your lives, with the thrill of being young and not yet knowing what you wanted out of the world.
but that something between you had always been there, pulling at both of you, quiet but undeniable. the way you caught each otherâs eyes a little too long. the way your conversations turned into something more meaningful without either of you intending it. the way natasha would see you at parties and catch her breath for just a moment. the way youâd smile, as if you both knew, but neither of you was brave enough to act on it.
youâd both dated people. tried relationships. but it had never lasted, had it? there was always that nagging feeling in the back of your mindâsomething missing, something not quite right. as if your lives couldnât fit together because they werenât ready to yet. you didnât have the words for it, and neither did natasha. but you both knew. you always knew.
the things that had once seemed complicatedâlife, timing, fearâsuddenly didnât feel as big as they once had. there was a quiet honesty between you now, as if you both had grown enough to stop pretending you didnât feel it. the awkwardness, the hesitation, the âmaybeâ that had been there before was gone.
it was you. it had always been you. and you knew it too.
âso,â natasha said after a beat, her voice softer now, quieter than before. âwhat are we doing here, really? weâre not strangers. weâve known each other for, what, almost four years now?â
you looked at her, your lips curling into a smile that didnât hide the tension in your gaze. âweâve known each other longer than that,â you said. âweâve always known.â
âi think iâve always been afraid of this,â natasha admitted, her voice barely above a whisper. âafraid that iâd say the wrong thing, or that it would mess things up between us. that maybe the timing was never going to be right.â
you nodded slowly. âiâve been afraid of that too.â you paused, then added with a wry smile, âi was never good with timing.â
âmaybe we donât need perfect timing,â natasha said softly, her gaze meeting yours with something she hadnât let herself feel beforeâa quiet certainty. âmaybe itâs just the right time now. after all this time.â
you didnât answer right away. you didnât have to. instead, you reached across the bar, your hand brushing gently against hers, and just like that, it all clicked. there was no more hesitation. no more waiting. you both knew what this was, what it always had been.
âyeah,â you said, your voice low and certain. âi think youâre right.â
and that was it.

Per one single request (and that is all I need to carry on) here is an expansion of my tags on this post
What even is dementia?
Basically, it's an umbrella term. It describes a set of common symptoms, primarily worsening cognitive loss.
It's kind of like saying you have a cold. A cold is not a diagnosis, it's a grouping of different illnesses, like rhino virus (the most common), influenza, covid, the list goes on.
So, you can have dementia and Alzheimer's, but you wouldn't describe yourself as having both. You'd say "I have a type of dementia, Alzheimer's disease." In the same way you'd say, "I have a cold, I think it's just a rhino virus but it's a whopping my ass."
So why'd you pick Alzheimer's for that example?
Well, Alzheimer's disease is the most common type of dementia. It's where all the stereotypes you'd know about it come from. This is gonna be a text heavy post, so have a graph
University of Queensland
Before I talk about them in more detail though, what's a brain?
Your brain is made up of segments that control different specific bits of your body.
I always knew that if you hit the back of your head you might go blind, cos the eye and sight stuff happens at the back of the head. This is true.
I love a copyright warning on a photo. This post constitutes personal use
Alright! An important thing about dementia is that it moves through the brain steadily, going piece by piece. It doesn't do it all at once. So you have a starting spot, and a progressive loss of cognition as it kills your neurons. We figure out the dementia type by the symptoms, cos the brain is so defined
So if you hit the back of your head, the green occipital lobe in that picture, you mess with your sight. If you lose cognition in the back of your head your eyes are seeing fine, but your cognition loss makes you process that sight incorrectly. What you see can be completely different to what other people see. This is posterior cortical atrophy, and I bring it up because we know someone who died from it, this is Terry Pratchett's dementia subtype
It's not on the above graph cos it's quite a rare type
Where's Alzheimer's start?
In the kinda middle bit, the temporal lobe. Memory, ya know. And once it takes your memory it'll move on, but it's not always the same, so people living with Alzheimer's disease will developed varying symptoms as the disease progresses, which takes many years. Sometimes people get a diagnosis of mixed dementia cos it's doing a few lobes at once. Or they have another quite different type of dementia at the some time
I'm not gonna talk about Alzheimer's much cos if you know anything about how dementia goes, you probably know it from Alzheimer's disease.
Let's go through a few others
Vascular dementia is the next biggie!
It's a curious one, this is stroke related. So, when you get a stroke you often lose cognition in the affected area of the brain. That's not dementia, that's a stroke!
But if you get lots and lots of strokes, constantly, that's a type of dementia. Cos you're getting steadily cognitively worse
(this is a good time to remind people that dementia is not a diagnosis or even a type of illness like cancer, it is a descriptive umbrella of common symptoms. The underlying causes can be wildly different)
Vascular dementia doesn't follow our moves steadily though the brain model, cos the strokes can and do happen anywhere. It's rough
What am I talking about, they're all rough. It'll get rougher
Lewy bodies dementia
Often cross diagnosed with Parkinson's disease dementia, it just depends if you get the physical or cognitive symptoms first.
Lewy bodies doesn't tend to have any memory loss. I know, no one thinks that's possible! But this is a dementia without memory loss! Cognitive loss is not the same thing as memory loss, theres other cognitive thing you can lose. That's why they're different words I guess
Of course, in all dementias eventually everything goes. Cos it's progressive, it keeps progressing
Lewy bodies is more likely to cause physical impacts like shaking and shuffling gait. You'll also hallucinate, have delusion, sleep badly, and experience mood swings.
From a care perspective, the people living with Lewy bodies disease are vastly more likely to be violent than any other person living with dementia
Robin Williams had this one, but he never knew. They confirmed via autopsy. So I'm gonna add a fun gif of him cos he was lovely
There's a lot of other disease/illness induced dementias
Huntington's turns into dementia eventually. HIV too. If you have down syndrome you have an extra gene that will always turn into dementia if you live long enough (that's one of our few 100% rates). Alcohol related dementia. So on and so forth. There's a shit tonne of types
Anyway, thats enough about disease progression. I'll talk out a few more common misunderstandings and then post
Is dementia fatal?
Sure is. Most people will die of something else while they have dementia, cos age often comes with comorbidities, but if the only thing you have is Alzheimer's disease it will still kill you. It's taking out your brain cells, eventually you'll forget how to swallow and choke.
Honestly tho it's more likely you'll die 'by accident' due to doing something you didn't realise was dangerous, like going for a walk wearing nothing at night and developing hypothermia. That is a dementia-caused death, I think we can all see that, but it'll be written down as hypothermia. So reported deaths are lower than what's true
Alzheimer's takes 10 - 30 years for the neuron loss to be extreme enough to kill you outright. Lewy bodies is more like 5 - 7 years. There's a range and the ranges are poorly defined, quiz your GP if this ever comes up in your life
It's an old person disease, right?
Overwhelmingly yes. It's considered younger onset if you're less than 65. But from the graph above you can see that's a big enough proportion to get its own slot
But kids don't get it
Sure they do, childhood dementia is a whole thing. It's awful. People are born with it. Again, dementia isn't an illness type, it's a symptom grouping. Kids can be born with progressive, worsening cognitive loss. So while it's not Alzheimer's disease, it is dementia. It's like 1 in 3000 kids have some kind of childhood dementia, and most die before they reach adulthood.
It's untreatable
It is incurable (but they keep researching!) but we have treatments for the early stages. If you or a loved one is experiencing confusion and memory loss, get moving early and you might be able to delay the worsening of symptoms for a few years. It's not a cure, but it's better than nothing. And it's all we've got
How do you, op, know?
I have a master's degree in dementia, and I work in the field. Not naming my job cos I'm not speaking for them rn, I'm just presenting what I know personally
Gonna end the post there. Send me asks or questions or whatever, I'll try and answer. If I get enough asking the same thing I'll do another post expanding on that â¤ď¸â¤ď¸â¤ď¸

I'm planning on writing a Pokemon fanfic where the trainer is hard of hearing. They can speak and give commands but it is also normal for trainers to hear the opposing trainers commands and respond to that not just what they see. Which would put them at a big disadvantage, wouldn't it if they could only process visual information? I know you said stuff before about combat being too fast and people don't 'call out attacks' but that doesn't fit here. But also on the other hand, Pokemon don't alwa
But also on the other hand, Pokemon don't always obey their their trainers (usually a trust issue) but perhaps this actually could be a good thing and help turn that disadvantage around since if they trust each other enough for the Pokemon to respond appropriately by themselves if they feel the trainer is making a bad call or not quick enough to respond to an attack called out by the opposing trainer. What do you think? Any other ideas?
Something to remember: Pokemon is a game. I don't mean in the meta-sense that the anime and ancillary materials are based off of the video game and card game, the way you could, for example, describe the Fallout TV series as based on a game. I mean, literally, that the structure of Pokemon itself is a competitive game.
When you start stripping it apart, and really dig into the structure, combat in pokemon is a game where the trainers are the players, and their pokemon are the pieces they're using on the board. This is an important concept to grasp when you're dissecting the material, because it informs why it functions.
There is a concept in games called an action stack. When you're playing a strategically intensive game, you'll often come across some version of this concept. Basically, you announce your action to your opponent, they then get an opportunity to take a legal response (if one exists), and then the action resolves. In situations like this, calling out your actions is a necessary step in keeping your opponent apprised of changes in the game state. It's also (often) necessary as a step to give them the opportunity to respond (whether that's part of the same action stack, or as a following action.)
Now, much like in Pokemon, in casual games, these kinds of declarations, and even the structure of the action stack itself, can become very ad hoc. You wouldn't do this in a tournament environment, but in casual circumstances you'll see players doing things like say, âI'm playing this,â or just drop the card on the table as part of their appropriate action window. (Though, again, this behavior is extremely rude in a tournament environment.)
As you mentioned, the instructions given by the trainer is, technically, for the Pokemon's benefit, rather than the opponent. Also, pieces on the board not following the player's commands is a concept that does exist in some tabletop games. For example: if you botch a Leadership test in Warhammer, you're not going to get the results you were hoping for.
So in this specific case, being privy to your opponent's actions ahead of time is really more an example of intelligence gathering (even though it's at a very limited level.) And, this is, absolutely, a consideration in competitive games. If you can accurately predict your opponent's next action it can let you take preemptive steps to mitigate their move, or even outright prevent them from doing what they want.
Not being able to collect intelligence conventionally is a little bit of a problem, but it's not necessarily a deal breaker. A lot of the time, intelligence gathering in games (for an experienced player) is testing limited information against extensive system knowledge to make educated guesses about what your opponent will do. If you have awareness of the board, you don't always need to actually have specific knowledge about what your opponent is planning. Meaning, if they're extremely knowledgeable about what's out there, they might not need to hear their opponents' every command. With enough familiarity, each pokemon is recognizable on sight, and they have limited move options determined by their appearance (with the occasional outlier or exception.)
Also, lipreading is a thing. It's a lot harder when you're just sampling general use of the language, but when you're looking at a limited number of individual words (and you know which words could be issued because of the aforementioned system knowledge) it can become quite possible for someone to pick out what a trainer is telling their pokemon, even if they wouldn't be able to hear the words normally (or lipread a stray conversation between strangers.)
Incidentally, if you're thinking that it's unreasonable for someone to have the stat sheets for over 1k pokemon committed to memory, that's in line with what you need to have committed to memory for a number of competitive games, if you're operating at a high level. Chances are, if you're a highly ranked M:TG player, you'll probably have at least 2-3k cards committed to memory even if you can't use them in Modern anymore.

She had helped fuel some of your late-night study sessions through grad school. Living in a new state, she had shown up and seen you through breakups, family drama, and the stress of putting together your thesis. Even when your paths diverged, you'd managed to stay in touch.
I 100% believe this, I feel like Pepper would be a great friend (even though she's always busy)
"We're putting together an incredible team," she begins, her eyes sparkling with excitement. "I've been reaching out to some of the brightest minds in politics, economics, and social justice. We have former White House staffers, grassroots organizers, and even a few unexpected faces from the private sector who are eager to contribute their expertise."
Whatever Pepper does, she does it right and all in
"There's Maria Hill," Pepper continues, "who's handling security and intelligence briefings. She's got connections that'll be invaluable. Then there's Peter Parker - you might know him as Spider-Man - he's officially our youth outreach coordinator, but he's also got a brilliant scientific mind that we're tapping into for policy development."
Already an iconic team
âPut me to work wherever you need me!â âI was hoping you would say that because I have a very specific position I need to get filled, and youâre my first - and only - pick for the job.â âPepper, stop holding out!â A nervous and eager laugh escapes you. âTell me!â Her response slams into you like a freight train, knocking the air from your lungs. âFuture First Lady.â
Well that's certainly a special role đ
"A lot to take in?" you interrupt, your voice rising. "Pepper, it's insane! Itâs May, and the election is in November. How could I possibly be the First Lady?" Pepper holds up a hand, trying to calm you. "I know, I know. Let me explain."
She's like: I already thought this all through, no worries
âWe have an opportunity to show what a healthy partnership in marriage could look like to new generations. Youâre my first and only choice because of your skills, experience, and the vision I know you would bring to the table. But youâre also my first and only choice because I think you two are well-suited for each other.â
But she certainly does have great arguments đ¤ˇđťââď¸ if someone would get me, a person that doesn't believe to much into marriage, to marry a person for strategic purposes it would certainly be Pepper đ
You frown. âWhat does he expect?â you ask. And then you perk up even more. âHas he agreed to this? Shouldnât he at least be here to make the offer himself?â Pepper sighs. âIt was easier for me to convince him to run in the first place than to agree that he needed a wife.â
Hahahahđ
âPresident Bartlet?â you canât help the awe in your voice. âIâd skip out on breakfast with me, too.â âI hope Iâm not a disappointment of a substitute,â Sam teases. âSince weâll be working together as part of the senior staff, I volunteered because I was eager to finally meet you.â His smile is genuine, and you feel the absolute truth of his sentiment. It melts away some of your disappointment and worry.
Meeting Sam first is probably even better, he is a great wingman đ
In return, your smile becomes a little warmer and easier. âI canât help being a little disappointed - since I was hoping to finally meet my future husband - but heâs unemployed and youâre technically Captain America, so I guess itâs really an upgrade.â Sam laughs. âOh, Iâm going to love you, I can tell.â
This is good sign
"It's part of the package," Sam agrees. "But so is having a team of people who have your back, no matter what." He leans forward, his eyes meeting yours intently. "I want you to know that includes me. We're not just colleagues in this; we're family."
đĽšđĽšđĽš
Sam leans back in his chair, considering your question carefully. "Crazy? Maybe," he admits with a small smile. "But then again, I've seen a lot of crazy things in my time with the Avengers. This? This actually feels like one of the more normal things I've been part of."
Well, fair đ
You feel your cheeks flush slightly. "His type?" "Smart, independent, passionate about making a difference," Sam lists off. âYour work in non-profits, your passion for social justice - that's right up Steve's alley. Plus, you've got that whole 'take no crap' vibe that he needs. I have a sense about these things, and you have it.â You laugh, feeling some of the tension dissipate. "Well, I'll take your word for it. Though I have to admit, the idea of being Steve Rogers' 'type' is a bit surreal."
đ¤đ¤đ¤
As Sam talks, you find yourself leaning in, captivated by these glimpses of reality, getting to know more about the man behind the myth. And even if the next twenty-four hours will be a whirlwind of you choosing and getting fitted for your wedding dress; interviewing candidates that have been vetted for your personal staff - assistant, pr strategist, stylist, initiative director; and a bachelorette party; you feel like youâll be able to face it all with the bit of reassurance youâve gained by spending this time with Sam.
Getting a pep talk by Sam Wilson, the Captain America does just that đđť

[MAY 15 - Manhattan, New York]
You try not to hold still while you wait in the lobby, but youâre nervous and the longer you sit, the more difficult it is to resist drumming your fingers, tapping your foot, jiggling your right leg as itâs crossed over your left, or even just chewing on your bottom lip.
Youâre not anxious at all over meeting with Pepper, but what has you on alert is the possibility that you could theoretically meet Steve Rogers, former Captain America, today.
You take a deep breath, trying to calm your nerves. The lobby of Stark Industries is immaculate, all sleek lines and modern design. The large windows let in plenty of natural light, making the space feel open and inviting despite its corporate purpose.
Your mind wanders back to your college days when youâd walked into a different Stark Industries lobby for the first time, a hopeful intern wanting to make a difference at the then-new Stark Foundation office. Pepper had been very involved in building the Foundation at the time, and had become a key mentor and - as the years passed and you left Stark Industries - a dear friend. She had helped fuel some of your late-night study sessions through grad school. Living in a new state, she had shown up and seen you through breakups, family drama, and the stress of putting together your thesis. Even when your paths diverged, you'd managed to stay in touch.
Back then, sheâd become like the older sister you never had, seeing you through some of the difficult years figuring out how to be a real adult. Now, here you are, waiting to potentially join a presidential campaign sheâs orchestrating for none other than Steve Rogers.
The receptionist's voice startles you out of your reverie. "Ms. Potts will see you now."
You stand, smoothing down your carefully chosen outfit - professional, but not stuffy. As you follow the receptionist down the hallway, your mind races with possibilities. What position could Pepper have in mind for you? Your background in political science and your years working in non-profit management seem like they could be useful, but you can't help feeling a little out of your depth.
As you approach Pepper's office, you take a deep breath to steady yourself. The door opens, and there she is - Pepper Potts, looking as poised and confident as ever in a crisp white blouse and tailored navy suit. Her strawberry blonde hair is pulled back in a neat ponytail, and her smile is warm and welcoming.
"It's so good to see you," she says, embracing you in a quick hug. "Come in, please."
You step into her spacious office, taking in the floor-to-ceiling windows with a breathtaking view of the city skyline. Pepper gestures to a comfortable-looking chair across from her desk, and you sit, trying to keep your nerves in check.
"I appreciate you coming on such short notice," Pepper begins. "I know it's been a few years since weâve been able to catch up - even before the Blip.â
You were among the half who disappeared - still such a strange concept to grasp though you were supposedly settled back in. âI was happy to come! And of course I donât mind a trip on the Stark Industries dime,â you say with a grin.
"Can I get you anything? Water? Coffee?"
You shake your head. "I'm fine, thanks."
Pepper settles into her chair, folding her hands on the desk. "So, I know I told you weâre putting together the campaign team for Rogers for America, but I'm sure you're wondering more specifically why I called you here."
You nod, leaning forward in your chair, eager to hear Pepperâs vision.
You are instantly intrigued, trying to imagine the caliber of people she's describing. Your mind races with possibilities - perhaps that brilliant campaign manager who orchestrated the upset victory in the last Senate race, or the economist whose revolutionary ideas about sustainable development have been making waves in academic circles.
"We've got strategists who are anticipating every move our opponents might make," Pepper continues, "and communications experts who can craft messages that will resonate with voters across the political spectrum.â
You listen intently, trying to pinpoint where you might fit into this powerhouse group.
Your eyebrows raise at the mention of Spider-Man.
Pepper leans forward, her eyes locking with yours. "But here's the thing - we're not just assembling a team of political operatives and policy experts. We need people who understand the heart of what we're trying to do, who can see the bigger picture and help keep us grounded in our core values."
Your heart begins to race as you start to realize where this might be going.
"That's where you come in," Pepper says, a warm smile spreading across her face. "I've watched your career over the years, how you've navigated the non-profit world, building coalitions and making real change happen. You have a gift for bringing people together, for seeing connections that others miss. Your experience gives you a unique perspective that we desperately need."
Your heart races as you process her words. You had assumed you might be offered some kind of advisory role, perhaps in fundraising or event planning. Maybe even appearance management or offering occasional input on strategy. But from Pepper's tone, it sounds like she has something more substantial in mind.
"Where do you see me on this team?" you ask, trying to keep your voice steady.
"I've been putting a lot of thought into this," Pepper continues, her voice filled with conviction. âYou know weâre doing something unconventional. Did you read the presidential plan?â
You nod. Steveâs bid for President of the United States was still technically not public knowledge. You had signed an NDA - being told only that you were receiving a proposal Pepper wanted your input and consultation on, with potential to join the team if you supported the initiative, and just silence if you didnât.
âItâs bold, idealistic, aspirational; but itâs also unapologetic, has clear plans of action, and could be transformational in ways we havenât seen in living memory,â you give your assessment.
âAnd itâs something you could see yourself being a part of?â
You take a deep breath, but smile genuinely. âI couldnât sleep the first night after you sent it over. I couldnât stop reading, hoping, re-reading, imagining possibilities!â
âGood,â Pepper responds. âPerfect.â
âPut me to work wherever you need me!â
âI was hoping you would say that because I have a very specific position I need to get filled, and youâre my first - and only - pick for the job.â
âPepper, stop holding out!â A nervous and eager laugh escapes you. âTell me!â
Her response slams into you like a freight train, knocking the air from your lungs.
âFuture First Lady.â
You feel your jaw drop in shock, almost hitting the ground as your mind races with disbelief and anger. The room feels like it's spinning as you struggle to process the weight of her words.
"What?" you gasp, your voice barely above a whisper. "Pepper, I... I don't understand. First Lady? But that would mean..."
Pepper holds up a hand, her expression serious. "We're not just running a campaign here. We're trying to redefine what leadership looks like in this country. Steve is an incredible man, and he needs a partner who understands the complexities of modern America, not just a trophy wife, someone who can connect with people from all walks of life."
You shake your head, still reeling. "But I'm not - I mean, Steve and I aren't even - we've never even met!"
"I know," Pepper says softly. "That's part of the plan. We want to show that leadership isn't about who you're married to or what your last name is. It's about vision, compassion, and the ability to bring people together."
Pepper leans back in her chair, her expression at least revealing some concern over your reaction. "I know it's a lot to take in."
"A lot to take in?" you interrupt, your voice rising. "Pepper, it's insane! Itâs May, and the election is in November. How could I possibly be the First Lady?"
Pepper holds up a hand, trying to calm you. "I know, I know. Let me explain."
But you're on a roll now, your initial shock giving way to indignation. "Explain what? How you thought it was okay to offer me a position that requires me to be married to a stranger? Use me to score points?â
"I understand your reaction," Pepper says calmly, "but please, hear me out. This isn't about scoring political points or creating some sham marriage. We're trying to redefine what leadership looks like in this country."
You take a deep breath, trying to calm yourself. "Go on," you say, your voice tight, âbecause youâre still trotting out marriage.â
"We canât outright ignore traditional expectations and polling numbers. If Steve were running as the nominee for either of the major parties, we could probably win without him being married, but since heâs running as an independent, he needs a wife. That being said, we want to move away from the traditional concept of the First Lady as just the President's wife," Pepper explains. "The vision is a First Partnership. Two people who work together. Thereâve been a few First Ladies who have done more with their platform and position, and thatâs what we would want for you, too.â
You chew on your lip, not persuaded yet, but a little less angry.
âWe have an opportunity to show what a healthy partnership in marriage could look like to new generations. Youâre my first and only choice because of your skills, experience, and the vision I know you would bring to the table. But youâre also my first and only choice because I think you two are well-suited for each other.â
You open your mouth to protest, but Pepper raises her hand to stop you.
âYou and Steve donât have to put on a show and be madly in love - thatâs not what I want, thatâs not what he wants or expects either.â
You frown. âWhat does he expect?â you ask. And then you perk up even more. âHas he agreed to this? Shouldnât he at least be here to make the offer himself?â
Pepper sighs. âIt was easier for me to convince him to run in the first place than to agree that he needed a wife.â
âBut youâre telling me he did agree?â
Pepper nods. âHe did.â
You unconsciously rub the empty space on your left ring finger. âCouldnât we just get engaged and leave the question of a marriage for whether or not he wins?â
A soft laugh falls from Pepperâs mouth. âHe actually asked the same thing.â
âAndâŚ?â You raise your eyes expectantly.
âThe public would rake us over the coals and accuse us of only doing it as a publicity stunt. The campaign would become a gossip column on your relationship status and nothing more.â
âBut isnât it a publicity stunt?â
âWe can spin a marriage that seems to appear out of nowhere. Steveâs always been a private person when it comes to his personal life. We will tell people you met through me - which is true. I thought you were well-suited for each other - which I do. When people asked why the wedding just before announcing his bid for the presidency, we tell them you two didnât want your relationship status to become the big question on everyoneâs minds so they can focus on the platforms and policies instead and that every marriage takes work regardless of the length of the courtship.â
You sit in stunned silence for a moment, trying to process everything Pepper has said. The idea of marrying someone you've never met, let alone becoming the First Lady of the United States, seems utterly surreal. And yet, there's a part of you that's intrigued by the challenge, by the opportunity to make a real difference on such a grand scale.
"I need some time to think about this," you finally say, your voice barely above a whisper.
Pepper nods understandingly. "Of course. It's a lot to take in. But I want you to know that I wouldn't have asked you if I didn't think you were perfect for this role. Not just as a political partner, but as someone who could genuinely connect with Steve."
You raise an eyebrow. "You really think we'd be well-suited?"
"I do," Pepper says with confidence and warmth.
You rub your ring finger again, but this time you see Pepperâs eyes drop to watch your unconscious action, and you quickly stop. Her eyes, when you meet them again, are full of sympathy. You both lost husbands, but you donât want to talk about it, yet again, and you donât want to bring up a painful subject for her either.
She can read that in your tight-lipped smile.
So instead she says, âI can give you three days to think it over.â
You sigh and rise from your seat to go. âI donât know if thatâs long enough, but if you give me three days or three weeks, I donât think it will change my decision Iâll land on. Give me the night to sleep on it. I think Iâll know by tomorrow morning.â
[JUNE 4 - Brooklyn, New York]
Three weeks later, your life has been packed up and put in a truck on its way to the new brownstone in Brooklyn thatâs been acquired for you and Steve to move into, and youâre sitting at a table in a cafĂŠ a few blocks away, waiting to meet your future husband for the first time over breakfast. Every time the bell rings over the door, you dart your head to see if itâs him, but heâs evidently running late.
As you wait, checking to see if you have any messages on your phone, the bell over the door chimes once more. This time, when you look up, your breath catches in your throat. A tall, athletic man with dark skin and an easy smile has entered the cafĂŠ. You recognize him immediately as Sam Wilson, the new Captain America. Your heart sinks a little as you realize Steve isn't with him.
Sam spots you and makes his way over, his stride confident but casual. As he approaches, you notice the way his eyes scan the room, a habit born from years of military training and superhero work. He's dressed in civilian clothes - a leather jacket over a simple t-shirt and jeans - but there's no mistaking the aura of strength and capability that surrounds him.
"You must be the future Mrs. Rogers," Sam says with a warm smile, extending his hand. "I'm Sam Wilson. Steve asked me to come apologize and explain - and to have breakfast with you, if youâll have me.â
You nod, forcing a smile, and shake his hand. "Of course. I understand.â You motion toward the chair across the table from you, inviting him to sit. âI know campaign prep must keep him incredibly busy."
Ever since youâd accepted the proposition to marry Steve Rogers and join him on the campaign trail to the White House, your own life had turned upside down, giving you hardly any time to breathe, and youâd been told this was only a mild version of what your own schedule was going to look like once Steve formally announced.
âFormer President Bartlet agreed to meet with him, and the schedules ended up aligning this morning for Steve to go up to New Hampshire for a sit down,â Sam explains.
âPresident Bartlet?â you canât help the awe in your voice. âIâd skip out on breakfast with me, too.â
âI hope Iâm not a disappointment of a substitute,â Sam teases. âSince weâll be working together as part of the senior staff, I volunteered because I was eager to finally meet you.â
His smile is genuine, and you feel the absolute truth of his sentiment. It melts away some of your disappointment and worry.
In return, your smile becomes a little warmer and easier. âI canât help being a little disappointed - since I was hoping to finally meet my future husband - but heâs unemployed and youâre technically Captain America, so I guess itâs really an upgrade.â
Sam laughs. âOh, Iâm going to love you, I can tell.â
âJust promise me heâll actually be at the ceremony tomorrow?â you ask. Your tone is light, but Sam calls your bluff.
His laughter fades, replaced by a reassuring smile. "Don't worry, he'll be there. Wild horses couldn't keep him away. Or androids. Or aliens. Or wizards. Or..." He trails off, realizing he might be overdoing it. "You get the idea."
You nod, appreciating Sam's attempt at humor. "I hope so. It would be pretty awkward to explain to the press why the groom was a no-show at his own wedding."
"Trust me, Steve takes this very seriously," Sam says, his tone becoming more earnest. "He may not know you yet, but he respects you and the commitment you're making. He's not the type to back out or let you down."
You nod, feeling a mix of relief and nervousness. "I suppose I should get used to schedule changes and last-minute adjustments," you say, trying to keep your tone light.
"It's part of the package," Sam agrees. "But so is having a team of people who have your back, no matter what." He leans forward, his eyes meeting yours intently. "I want you to know that includes me. We're not just colleagues in this; we're family."
His words touch you deeply, and you feel a bloom of warmth in your chest, the firs time youâve felt grounded since you agreed to do this. "Thank you, Sam," you manage to say. "That means a lot."
The waitress approaches, he orders coffee, and you both order breakfast.
As she walks away, you take a sip of the drink youâd ordered while you were waiting before, mulling over Sam's words. "Can I ask you something, Sam? You know Steve better than almost anyone. Do you think...?â
You hesitate, uncertain if you should voice your doubts to Sam. But his open, friendly demeanor encourages you to continue, and youâre going to need to learn to trust this new circle of people youâll be surrounded with.
"Do you think this is crazy?" you finally ask, your voice barely above a whisper. "Marrying someone I've never even met, maybe becoming First Lady... it all feels so surreal."
Sam leans back in his chair, considering your question carefully. "Crazy? Maybe," he admits with a small smile. "But then again, I've seen a lot of crazy things in my time with the Avengers. This? This actually feels like one of the more normal things I've been part of."
You can't help but chuckle at that, some of the tension easing from your shoulders.
"Look," Sam continues, his tone becoming more serious. "I won't lie to you. It's not going to be easy. The scrutiny, the pressure, the constant demands on your time and energy - it's going to be a lot. But if anyone can handle it, it's Steve. And from what I've heard about you, I think you're up for the challenge, too."
Sam pauses as the waitress returns with your breakfasts and his coffee. Once she's gone, he continues, "Steve doesn't do anything halfway. When he commits to something, he's all in. And he's committed to this - to you, to this campaign, to trying to make a real difference."
You nod, appreciating his honesty. "And what about... us? Steve and me, I mean. Do you think we can make this work? Not just for the campaign, but as a real partnership?"
Sam's eyes soften. "Steve's one of the best men I know. He's loyal, compassionate, and has a moral compass that doesn't quit. But he's also been through a lot, and he can be... guarded. It might take some time for him to open up fully."
You absorb this information, feeling a mix of apprehension and curiosity about your future husband. "I appreciate your honesty, Sam," you say softly. "I guess we'll both be navigating uncharted waters."
Sam nods, taking a sip of his coffee before responding. "True, but you won't be doing it alone. Not only do you have the support of the team, but I think you and Steve might surprise yourselves. You both have a strong sense of purpose, a desire to help others. That's a solid foundation to build on."
You pick at your breakfast, mulling over Sam's words. "I just hope we can find some common ground beyond the campaign," you admit.
Sam leans in, his expression earnest. "Like I said, when Steve commits to something, he gives it his all. That includes relationships. He may be reserved at first, but once he lets you in, you'll have his unwavering loyalty and support."
You nod, feeling a bit more reassured. "I appreciate that. Iâm not some hopeless romantic, Iâm not looking to be swept off my feet, but I just hope we can find some chemistry, some spark beyond just being political partners."
Sam chuckles. "Oh, I wouldn't worry too much about that. Steve might be from the 1940s, but he's still a red-blooded man. And you," he gestures at you with his fork, "are definitely his type."
You feel your cheeks flush slightly. "His type?"
"Smart, independent, passionate about making a difference," Sam lists off. â
Your work in non-profits, your passion for social justice - that's right up Steve's alley. Plus, you've got that whole 'take no crap' vibe that he needs. I have a sense about these things, and you have it.â
You laugh, feeling some of the tension dissipate. "Well, I'll take your word for it. Though I have to admit, the idea of being Steve Rogers' 'type' is a bit surreal."
Sam grins. "Trust me, once you two actually meet, you'll see what I mean. Just don't let that 'aw shucks' routine fool you. He might look like an all-American boy scout, but there's a lot more going on under the surface."
You raise an eyebrow. "Oh? Do tell."
Sam shakes his head, still smiling. "Nah, I'll let you discover that for yourself. Where's the fun if I spoil all the surprises?"
You roll your eyes good-naturedly. "Fine, keep your secrets. But seriously, Sam, thank you. For breakfast, for the pep talk, for everything. I'm really glad I got to meet you before tomorrow."
"Me too," Sam says, raising his coffee mug in a mock toast. "To new beginnings and unexpected partnerships."
You clink your own mug against his, feeling a surge of warmth and camaraderie. As you finish your breakfast, the conversation flows easily between you and Sam. He regales you with stories of his adventures with Steve, carefully omitting any classified details but painting a vivid picture of the man you're about to marry.
You learn about Steve's dry sense of humor, his unwavering loyalty to his friends, and his surprising skill at sketching. Sam describes missions where Steve's quick thinking saved the day, but also quieter moments - movie nights with the team, intense debates over board games, and Steve's ongoing struggle to catch up on pop culture.

According to some FtF storyboards that were cut (presumably for time), Manny met Camila twenty years prior to the start of the series; And since the show takes place in 2022, this wouldâve been during 2002. And since Luz is 14, this means Camila and Manny knew one another for six years, and at some point married during that time before eventually having Luz.
Season 1B had an episode that was scrapped called Homesick, which wouldâve had Luz discover a Healing Glyph and also reflect on her parents; At this point in production, Camila was a nurse before that got retconned, but it was revealed that Manny was an ambulance driver. The FtF storyboards are much more recent and borderline canon, so we can surmise Manny and Camila did meet at a Cosmic Frontier convention, and their workplaces didnât happen to intersect.
But if we still want to retain this detail on Manny, you can guess why Camila resonated with him and vice-versa, as people who both had a very compassionate spirit. Manny especially as someone who builds people up.
And thereâs a dark irony in Manny always bringing people to hospitals, because he would be quite familiar with those who are on the verge of death, who might be skirting close to it, maybe even people who did die on the way⌠So he was always aware of mortality and heâd have to consider his own. And so after all this time, he would be the one being brought to a hospital, different ones, itâs why they chose Gravesfield specifically. His life and death, defined by hospitals; His peak and decline, defined by hospitals. How does Luz feel about such buildings now?
Manny wouldâve empathized a lot with those in charge, but did he ever imagine he would empathize like this? Sometimes I think of the little fan theory that the Abomaton alarm genuinely triggered Luz because it reminded her of an ambulance that took her father to the hospital during a sudden medical emergency. These alarms are never pleasant anyway, nor is their context, but on some level it must hurt for something tied to her father and how he helped people to just be a reminder of how he couldnât be helped. The hospital was once associated with her fatherâs heroics, but nowâŚ
On a brighter note, you could say that after helping people, Manny gets helped in return; But in the end it wasnât enough. Or it did help, because it still got him some extra time with his family, enough to figure something out for his daughter that would keep her alive. Looking at the parallels to his daughter that he consciously taught, I wonder if Manny also wanted to be a hero; Luzâs obsession came from the book specifically, because it came from her dad.
Was Manny drawn to the medical industry to also help people? If so, he actually understood what people needed, which was more healers who could build people up. He didnât become a cop or anything. And such a mundane and unglamorous way of life is better for the world; Because I think of how Luz wanted to be a hero, but aside from one gag with the Gildersnake, her focus has always been on helping people and not destroying her enemies.
You can see this in the good Luz has done, which comes more from helping others, some of whom were her enemies, than destroying or taking down people; The final enemy she canât really help, Luz doesnât even destroy herself, nor directly at least. And I think that hearkens a lot to what her father and mother do, and I wonder if thatâs a specific ideal Manny had. Azura, as Luz describes it, is someone who befriends people and even enemies.
So I wonder if Manny actually read though the book, if he thought consciously what his final message was because itâs not just the act of giving the book itself, its what the book says, itâs how heâs choosing to impart his final beliefs by choosing something he thinks reflects them.
Heâs not afraid of weird looks, itâs already acceptable for an adult like Mildred Featherwhyle to write this and consider her messages anyhow, so yeah heâll read it in his hospital bed and place this under a critical lens. If anyone looks at him funny, Manny will snap at them unapologetically, Hey Iâm dying, lemme have this! He wouldnât need death as an excuse, mind you.
So Manny is an âauthorâ in a way, creating a message for his daughter, the other hidden author to Luzâs favorite fantasy. And Luz is the author of her own fantasy. Mannyâs already a massive nerd, itâs what led him to Camila, to Luz, of course heâll give that to her; Itâs what leads Luz to Amity.

Hey! You probably have already been asked this question- and I know youâll probably never see this- but Iâve been thinking about this and curious about this lately, uh-
What are all the things killer went through during his time under the control of his frisk? Both cannon and head-cannon? I have a few head-cannons myself but am really curious what others think and what the cannon is!
Itâs okay if not answered, am just a curious soul wondering about stuff-
Well, first, it wasnât his Frisk he was under the control ofâFrisk is actually hardly mentioned in Something New outside of the first few panels of the first page of the comics, and Killer saying he misses stabbing Friskâs face when asked if he missed Frisk.
It was Chara, and the Playerâbasically one and the same in Something New, even if Chara the dead child potentially wants something more. All the Player ever really wants from Killerâs existence is something new, after all. Charaâs the one who wanted a partner in crime.
As for what happened between them, the fun part isâwe donât actually canonically know. We can make guesses based on the beginning, when Killer turned on them, and some things based on after they endedâhow Killer still sees them and hears them and listens to them, how he feels watched by them constantly, as if theyâre living inside him.
This tells me just how codependent their relationship wasâand how scared and powerless Killer feels beneath them, even as he feels he needs them and that he still has to listen to them, even if he doesnât want toâeven as he struggles to realize that he doesnât want to, because he wants what They want.
Even if he has a new âmasterâ now in the form of Nightmare. It tells me that Charaâs wants and priorities and needs have always taken priority over anything and anyone elseâespecially Killer himself.
Itâs like..how a baby doesnât realize they are separate from their mother for the first few months of their life. Except Killer never truly realized that he is separate from them. Or that they are separate from him. He has internalized them, and in many ways, has become them. Something he struggles to make sense of.
Killer doesnât know who he is or what he is, what he wantsâif he wants anything at all. He doesnât know what is or isnât realâwhy he feels and behaves about certain things. Why everything both does and doesnât feel familiar, and yet still he is always just separate.
Chara provided directions. They represent identity and direction and stability, certainty and structure. They scare him and hurt him and confuse him, and he hates them and fears them in equal measure, but no one has understood him like them. Not even himself.
Iâm sure he also didnât use to understand why he was ever scared of or disobedient of Chara beforeâif something ever triggered him into Stage 1, such as his own hesitance to kill Papyrus. Stage 2 may not have held the same emotional ties to Chara that Stage 1 does or hold the same anger and hate that Stage 3 does or the fear and reverence that Stage 4 does; but it wasnât like he knew anything else besides them with certainty.
He knew he needed them. He didnât know fully why, he just did. He could try to explain why but itâd be through the lens of what Chara taught him: control or be controlled, the most Determined decide fate, etc.
He holds on these contradictory views and experiences with Chara, likely dissociated and compartmented into his four Stages, but all just as true as eachother.
They made him. He exists because of the Player, sure, but Chara basically raised him. The Player speaks through them, they act on our behalf. There may even be no difference between Chara and God in his mind in Stage 4.
And try as he might, he canât pry their pieces out of him.
All of it suggests heavy levels of manipulation, conditioning, gaslighting, dependency, and abuse to me. The specifics arenât said or shown or even confirmed, but the fact that out of all his shadowy hallucinations of everyone heâs killedâliving in his headâCharaâs the only one whoâs more than a shadow and has sway over his choices seems to say something about their relationship.
Anyway, a lot of things couldâve likely happened when he was with Chara. Who knows how long they were togetherâKiller likely doesnât know. How many timelines they went through together.
I do like to think that there was an entire timeline where Killer and Chara overthrew Asgore and ruled the Underground themselves at some point, because Princess Killer and Killer being conditioned through royal etiquette is an idea I love. I also think he was conditioned through childhood nursery rhymes, games, gestures, and sayings that are loaded with specific meanings that only Chara and Killer themselves know. Their own little language.
I think Chara gave Killer Asrielâs golden locket, to basically make Killer into the better âAsriel.â I do believe he was often threatened and kept in line through the use of the Resetâsomething Killer, back when he was Sans, hated and dreaded more anything.
(And by that I mean, he was either threatened with a Reset if he didnât do something, or forced to repeat something over and over through the use of the Reset until he either did it perfectly or without thinking or hesitation. Until any attempts to resist results in an instinctive overriding of his own will via the triggering of Stage 4.)
That original sentiment was likely twisted over time, but still present in some shape or formâsuch as the need for something new, and to not constantly do the same thing over and over again, even as paradoxically, Killer has a tendency to do the same things over and over again thanks to the role of the Resets in his conditioning.
Iâve made a post before about like, Chara and Killer making the killing into something like hunting games, canât find it. But I like to think there was a punishment-reward system that Killer internalized as well, especially in Stage 4.
Iâve mentioned before how i hc that Killer and Chara had a pinky swear system that could never be broken under threat of grievous harm to whichever party breaks the promiseâand as a result any promises made via pinky swears with Killer from absolutely anyone is basically the same as signing away your right to live if you ever break it.
Iâve mentioned how I think the one death Killer has never experienced before is buttercup poisoning. But basically, anything you think could happen has possibly happened, except ya know..weird stuff.
Reality is a game, and the Underground is their sandbox.

Canon possum is a joke but one thing I never forget is how decay IS powerful, sure a powerful quirk with an idiot is not a good thing in many fronts but...
Cinder (I'm loving him already) has to know a guy who can decay stuff with one touch even if he is an idiot.
Would cinder be worried about the quirk ?
Again, shig is an idiot and a bad leader and all that but one thing we can't deny is he knows how to fight.
So I think cinder would make a point to avoid him like the plague.
In canon Cider is the kind of person who knows he shouldn't bite off more than he can chew, since after all his plan during his debut was to steal during a very specific moment in which heroes aren't present, so is more reward without having to fight and less risk.
It was just a coincidence that A.M was there with Bakugou and Todoroki.
I guess his mentality also applies to fight dangerous villains, and the lov had some big names attached them. Their reputation probably was enough for Cider to not have his gang involved with such group of psychos.
But... I disagree on Shigaraki being a good fighter.
Maybe before all the bs power ups given by the doctor he at least knew how do surprise attacks and such, but Decay being such a one-dimensional quirk also means the user doesn't require a lot of skill to put it in use. It is basically just run towards the enemy and touch for instakill.
Which became even more braindead post awakening. Like even Overhaul has more room to be creative and need skill to put in use.
Decay is just a broken and boring quirk that requieres nothing to be effective. Crusty asshole somehow manages to be more plain than he already was at first, is like he evolves in reverse.

fuck this shit again
have the voice of the opportunist, and this is really making me realise how much I suck with colouring in my drawings. the lineart looks like this
oh, there's a little teaser for para in the corner. oops.
though I think I've probably made oppy just as slimy and sleazy as he was meant to look. so that's a point in the drawing's favour, I guess. he probably looks like a dilf if you squint hard enough.
broken's done so now there's like nine more to go hoooo boy.
by the way the thing I'm doing where I cover their right eyes with their wings isn't just a cheap cop-out for me to avoid drawing said right eye. it's symbolism (oh totally). because they can only experience a very specific point of view. it limits their perspective. in the end, the voices can't always truly see the right thing, and the way they are restricts them into seeing only what's left behind. so their left eye remains uncovered.
now i don't have anywhere as much to say about the opportunistic bitch but I do have a bit. for one, I'm not part of his massive hatedom. he's such a charming little rat bastard and I'm here for it
he's so horrible (affectionate)
no but I really love how each and every one of the Voices is just like a defense/coping mechanism. individually, they were developed by TLQ to make sense of the situation and adapt to whatever bullshit he's being forced through at the moment, right? but in excess, or even when the situation takes the smallest unexpected turns, they can get pretty unhelpful pretty quick.
oppy in PatD perfectly encapsulates this. (wow, what a profound insight, captain obvious. who could've guessed. not like every third post about pristine cut says this already.) fine oppy in PatD was peak
okay but let's face it I just can't hate the guy he's such a flip-flop girlfailure.
well it's kind of interesting how, in a way, this dude also exhibits another potential reaction to fight or flight situations. there's freeze but we're not talking about that today. and then there's fawn. the opportunist wants power, but that's not just what there is to it. in the end, this desire for power stems from an underlying need for control. often, he's manifested by a taste of control for the first time. control spawned from betrayal spawned from fear. from apprehension. from the need for autonomy, met with a lack thereof (thanks narrator you son of a gun), but then regained in triumph.
the opportunist clings to each sorry sliver of power he can get. because once he's tasted it, he requires it so deeply it's become something he just has to have, like an addiction. and he may appear kind of pathetic, or risk everything else for each new taste of power. and he may stop himself from letting himself stray too far, may force himself away if he must. and affection, or kindness, or connection, or trust- they cannot exist, not for this control he craves so much. yes, he's selfish. but being anything else that's not selfish isn't even a choice at all in the face of this power, this control, this sheer craving of his.
but in the end all the opportunist wants is belonging. he wants a purpose and he wants meaning, especially to others. he wants to matter. and having control is surely a way to show that you matter, right? being at the top has to show that you mean something. that you're not pointless. that you exist and have a right to exist.
even if all the actions you take, vile and scheming and despicable, tell everyone else that you shouldn't.
then again, his perspective blinds him. as with all of the other voices.
now it shouldn't be too much of a hassle to figure out the symbolisms in his design but in case it wasn't obvious enough his tie brooch was supposed to be an ouroboros. I thought it was neat when I first designed him. I'm having second thoughts now. plus, I tried to steer his design in a different direction from most others, who tend to stick with "tumblr twink in a nice suit". um...well, I don't know if it worked.
and GOD why did I choose this specific shade of green. I mean, it's unnecessarily tacky? and bright? and way too obvious like him? hopefully it matches? oh well.

Please don't feel the need to respond but I feel like you're one of the more level-headed shippers (ship-agnostic) so I wanted to get your opinion on something.
I personally believe Ryan Guzman when he repeatedly says Eddie is straight. Obviously, these can change any second and people are allowed to headcanon whatever they want, regardless of what the show tells us.
But seeing people use the juice bar scene to prove Eddie's a repressed gay man is a little weird. I just saw, "Eddie said he was straight. And then the priest told him to stop punishing himself (drinking bland water) and enjoyed what he really wanted (fruit juice)"
It kind of just feels like they're inadvertently calling him fruity, which is more pejorative than I think people realize when the person isn't canonically queer and the actor has asked to us to revisit why we think he secretly is.
I don't know, I guess I just wanted to know what you think. You're good about remembering this is a TV show but that it also has real world consequences every now and then <3
Howdy! đ¤
Oh man, ship-agnostic. Haha. That's great. I'm stealing that, thank you.
Yeah, since 8x6, I've also seen people directly and indirectly assert that Eddie is gay because of the fruit juice choice and, if we're being honest, I find that theory to be problematic. (Problematic in the way the word was meant to be defined, not in a these people should be cancelled way). Not even for the reasons you suggest, and not even because I disagree with the reading that Eddie is Queer (I don't), but because believing that the narrative is implying he's fruity is gross. "Fruity" is still a derogatory term. It's only in Gay/Queer circles that we use slurs or historically denigrating words to refer to each other casually.
But recontextualizing the existence of 9-1-1 outside the fandom bubble and realizing it's written overwhelmingly by heterosexual men should make people raise an eyebrow if indeed that were the implication (which, for the record, I don't think it was) because that's not a term anybody should be using for the Queer community unless they're Queer, and especially not if they're trying to handle such a potentially beautiful arc with care. You know?
I too believe Ryan when he says Eddie is straight. Mainly because 9-1-1 spent years skirting the line of ambiguity regarding how they handle Buddie and Eddie's sexuality specifically, only to throw that ambiguity out the window now. As you said, this could change at a moment's notice. But at this time, that definitely doesn't seem like the direction they're trying to go in. Which is unfortunate! But, alas. Nothing we can do about it from here, now is there? Lol.

Hi Gina!! First of all, I wanted to thank you and Daisie and everyone else here for the amazing Larry masterlist. I'm a new larrie myself, though I've been around the fandom since 2011 (tho not super closely) when WMYB MV was released. I was deep diving on receipts, and as per usual, I took it all in with a grain of salt and kept all my conclusions rational and unbiased. I just wanna add something you might consider a receipt, connecting to one of the tour receipts ones Iâve read on Daisieâs tags (I dove into both yours and Daisieâs tags lol). This isn't so big and new at all but I thought I'd add. Sorry in advance if I am too vague with this lol
A quick context: I had worked with small event productions here in my country, and had become pretty close with suppliers (tech, security, venue, etc). I got curious about an entry I read from your receipts tag which happened in an international tour here. Anyway, I am pretty close with our security supplier, and I thought I'd check if there were traces of them working with the boys. After a few google search, I saw them with Louis on a video during his tour here - confirming that at least for that show, they did work with Louis. He has been very open to me ever since we met, so when I DMed him about being involved in the show, he enthusiastically answered that they did all 1D-related ones in the country.
Anyway, bottomline, I tried to ask if it's true that Louis was here during Harry's concert because I've kind of heard it somewhere (being the receipt I read from Daisies' account). Thatâs when he got weirdly super silentl and left me on âseenâ/âreadâ (which had never happened EVER before). I waited with the chat box open; he se seemed type after a few mins - and then stopped completely. When I realized he (c)wouldn't reply, I didn't push it and said he doesn't have to respond and that I respect if heâs bound by certain contracts. After that, he immediately replied, basically just saying "Thank you" (for understanding, essentially). We just chatted a bit more before ending the convo.
So I guess I'd say it somewhat solidifies that theory in my head because I personally know them, and if there's really something super big they cannot share at all, they WONT. I knew there was something because it was almost comical for me how he suddenly left me on âreadâ. So if it's not a big deal at all he would've shared because we've talked about other works they've done in the past (he was so enthusiastic and shared all the names of the shows they've done with 1D a few mins prior lol) - but when I specifically asked if Louis was with Harry here for his tour, he immediately closed off and stopped replying - and THEN thanked me when I said he didnât have to reply lol (I didnât ask anything else, just that exact wording, straightforwardly asking if L was there during H's show, and I didnât phrase it in a playful or teasing way like I am implying thereâs smth gossip-worthy between them I'm fishing out of him)
ANYWAY, Iâm not even sure if this is worth posting but I needed someone to share it with and I thought it could be like a backup info for the future hahahaha I am trying to be vague because I do want to protect myself and my (in a way) source (?). But if you need any clarification from me - Iâd be open to elaborate more in the dms (Iâm rusty with tumblr so I hope I can navigate this properly lol)
Ofc, a part of me wish I could've gotten something, but I also respect them for staying quiet. And even if they did share something big, I might've had second thoughts on sharing bcs I was mainly asking it for my own sanity tbh, knowing that I knew who the security team was lol So I guess my point of sharing this with you is to basically share that the usual NDA thing with H&L, whether as a whole 1D unit before or as solos, is definitely enforced here. That the silence somewhat solidified my belief of other Larry receipts such as 1.) in relation to the Argentinian security confessions, and 2.) the receipts pointing out that those two fly together sometimes in the tours.
Idk if this is worth posting at all, but I just really needed to let it because I feel like I might be getting biased but also not (it was very fishy for me for sure lol). Thank you!
Hi, darling. No, itâs totally worth posting! I agree with you that it says something without saying anything. Are you able to tell me what year you were asking about? Or what country? I wonât post anything you donât want public.
Iâm really glad to hear that people take their NDAs seriously and even if it was from years ago they would still be professional about it.
Thank you so much for sharing this. If you think of anything else you can add, LMK. Or send me a DM. Iâll keep it private. đŠˇ

what do the rest of the family think/ feel when grimm gets all burnt and needs a refresh?
Ooh I'm guessing you mean whenever he has to leave for a ritual? Since 99% of the time that happens before he starts showing visible signs of his body falling apart haha
Vyrm doesn't cope with it too well, which was especially an issue at the beginning of their relationship. In fact, the first time Grimm had to leave was quite soon after their reunion, so as you can imagine, that made Vyrm really stressed, as he assumed Grimm wouldn't come back (even despite him assuring that he would). Vyrm's self esteem was at its lowest still, so he was convinced that Grimm found him disappointing as a partner, especially in intimate aspects, something Vyrm was very self-conscious about. Of course, Grimm did return, so his worries were unfounded. Over the years after that, Vyrm still experienced a lot of anxiety whenever Grimm would leave, the separation clearly stressed him out, he would anxiously wait for his return and would not be able to focus on anything. He got better at it over time, and these days, while he still finds Grimm's absence to be upsetting, he manages to cope with it, especially since he has children to look after.
As for how he feels about that aspect of Grimm itself, he definitely wishes things were different. Yes, there are positives, Grimm's ability to adjust the body can come in handy, and loves whenever Grimm does it specifically with him in mind (making the fur fluffier to act as a softer pillow? Yes please). But Grimm not being there for two, three weeks, sometimes even a month, is very upsetting considering how close their bond is, and he would be ready to sacrifice those small changes in a heartbeat if it meant Grimm wouldn't have to leave every few months.
As for the rest of the family, I'll start with the kids. The twins only experienced him leaving once, and they were still at the age where it was very confusing to them. They really missed him during the time, Milo especially, and while he brought back many toys for them to play with, it was still a stressful time for them. They're still too young to fully comprehend why he has to leave now. In the future, I think Asta would find it fascinating and would even want to join him at some point, Milo would not be too happy about it still. He's very close with his parents and depends on them with all of his health issues, so Grimm's absence would be a stressful time. Lewk is old enough to have had the conversation about Grimm's nature, not to mention he went through that whole thing a few times already, so he understands the reasoning. I think, with his compassionate nature and his curiosity, he would wonder how Grimm feels about it, so he'd definitely ask him about it often.
Hornet didn't really care the first time he left since it happened so soon after she moved to Dirtmouth, and they weren't close back then. But over time she began seeing him more as a parental figure, and with that his absence became much more noticeable. She won't admit it, but she does miss him every time. Generally she thinks of Grimm's situation as something very unpleasant, especially after the Grimmkin incident where Grimm stayed by Vyrm's bed for so long he neglected the state of his physical body. To the point Hornet had to actually step in and tell him he has to leave or else he'll completely fall apart. And I think the sight of his decaying form really stuck with her, and she remembers it to this day.
Holly is in a similar situation where they really miss him when he's away. They were the first one to see Grimm as a father post-infection, not to mention he already delayed his departure once to help them recover from the infection. On top of that, seeing Vyrm's distress at his partner's absence also affected Holly, and I like to think they spend extra time giving him company whenever that happens. So while they wish Grimm didn't have to leave, they enjoy the opportunity to spend more time with their father, without Grimm getting in the way, as bad as it may sound. I suppose they still have some of that jealousy rooted deep within, and I don't think that'll ever change.
Zote would have some complicated feelings, mainly because every time Grimm replaces his body, it's a reminder of his own mortality. Maybe he's jealous that Grimm can cheat death like this. Before meeting the family he wouldn't care, but now that he has his own little group that tolerates him, the thought that he doesn't want to grow old started to surface in his mind. He was fairly young when he met them, I picture him as about 18, 19 years old, but 10 years already passed like nothing and it's understandable that he'd start to think about it, especially seeing their birthdays where they don't even keep up with their exact ages anymore. So maybe whenever Grimm returns from a ritual, Zote would be particularly grumpy. Though at the same time, I don't think he envies him that much either. Having your body slowly burn down every few months can't be pleasant, after all.

I have lots of wonky dreams where I end up about to die in the most random, violent ways, and usually I wake up when I 'die.' Lucid dreaming is still hard for me to maintain for long, so yesterday I decided to try dictating to myself a few times, "the next time I'm about to die in some crazy way in my dreams, I'll call Reiner and he'll show up as the Armored Titan and save me, and it will work every time." They do say making such dictations is helpful in lucid dreaming, right?
Naturally, this morning I had a dream that we left the doors open with the AC running and cooled the neighborhood so much that all the water froze, and when we closed the doors it all melted instantly and caused a raging flood to cascade down the mountain, bringing an empty school bus hurtling towards me as I was trying to escape the floodwaters in a bush.
Seems like a perfect opportunity to try out my new resolution, right? So I yelled for Reiner, and shockingly it worked on this first attempt! Except that the Armored Titan that emerged from the woods was this semi-chibi, somewhat low poly version that didn't look or move like part of real world at all.
It was so fucking stupid looking that after he saved me, I tried to use what little lucidity I had to make him look like the real Armored Titan, but he just jittered around the otherwise realistic environment like a bad photo edit. There were fucking jpeg artifacts all around him.
I tried calling him again and all I got was three more low poly Armoreds, an equally shitty Colossal, and one (yes, still terrible looking) random titan.
I feel like my subconscious is trolling me hard here.

CASTIEL: Stop. What's the point if you don't mean it? You fear me - not love, not respect, just fear.
[youtube with closed captions]
a godstiel pity party. i'd like to thank an anon i got way back in february of 2021.
#spn#vid#spnamvarchive#so fun fact i started making this more than a year ago. got it 90% done. and then was like no this isn't working#i will come back to this later.#it turns out that i needed to make some videos about cas and angels (the love club + help i'm alive amvs)#in order to make this one. anyway this video is about french mistake robert singer voice season six#i really struggled with it because i could NOT find the thread until i realized that it needed to be literally godstiel pov#it's about love and desire and jealousy and hurt and omnidirectional rage <3#it's about the fact that cas is so utterly dependent on dean for his self-image - however dean sees him that's it#it's about having a moment of reflection about lashing out before you do it but doing it anyway#it's about taking cruelty and dishing it out#and crucially. it's about being pregnant#mpregpocalypse#fun fact: i made a post about working on three season six amvs all the way back in nov. 2022#and only now have they come to fruition (this one + love club + metric)#anyway. have you heard that cas is obsessed#the thing is i do kinda want to add some specific director's commentary here. like the first verse is about cas being like.#incredibly deeply emotionally vulnerable to dean. as in: his emotional state and self-image is totally dominated by what dean thinks of him#and if dean is mad at him. and then the second verse is about... dean upsetting him and him responding to that by Killing Everybody lol#like he has a moment of reflection ['certain regrettable things are now required of me' + killing rachel] where he's like i've 1) also done#bad things and 2) i feel bad about it so maybe i will regret Killing Everyone. but then he does it anyway due to everybody keeps turning#on him. i feel like the rest of the amv is self evident. i guess i should note that 'share a paradise' is about how both of them have#a nostalgic view of the early days of their relationship when it wasn't Like This lol. but everything else i think is self evident.#oh and the reason the other angels flash onscreen with their burned wings at the end is i'm EVOKING the image of cas' wings burning. even#though it doesn't happen. i'm evoking it

"Louis acting like a pimp to Armand" And what is a pimp exactly? Quickly. And, oh so sexual trauma survivors can't engage in kink now without it being all about that? Pet names? They can't be submissive anymore? Consensually? Sexually healthy? Be serious. I'd hardly say there's much power difference between them during all this anyway, except that Louis is freer than Armand and it's been putting a strain on their relationship. Louis wants more from Armand, and less of this 'being his past' for them both, and so helping Armand with this could fix that. It's healthy to want to help your partners get out of a rough patch?
I mean, the whole exchange was very clearly set up as a "I want to help you" after such a great moment of vulnerability Louis feels just how much Armand is desperate for it. Louis called Armand so they could work out a plan together.
And the bit with the umbrella was Louis' way of asking 'are you willing to listen to me?' and Armand said yes by unfolding it. Louis goes on and explains, Armand is allowed to argue against it, but Louis makes his point. And then he gives Armand a way to make his own choice in it too. Armand's already decided 'I want you, more than anything else in the world', but Louis still asks after if he's sure of his choice, and with a name, Arun, that is the one of his fullest agency, running the point home. Honoring the situation Armand calls Louis Maitre - as a way of being like 'I'll do as you've said then'. To make this work he's going to have to give Louis some of the control, yes. But it's the first time such a role is ever established, and it was his choice to do it. So so what if they do it in a very suggestive way? They can't like doing that? I think it's them having fun.
I struggle to find how Louis is being overly domineering here when really he's giving and offering Armand the most agency he's ever had. Same with finding it manipulative. The manipulation was more earlier in the episode I think, when he was stringing him along, giving mixed signals. He's no longer toying with him like that. Louis might be pushing Armand, leading him on to make a decision, but he doesn't mean bad by it.
But back to this pimp thing. I find it frankly offensive that this is where people are going with this. I get it, but to run with it being the case is, on many levels, wrong.
Louis told us episode 1 this was the only sustainable line of work to support his family and keep their standing, at the time. It was never his choice to be doing this either but his blackness allowed no other options. He did what he did so his family could stay in that house and maintain all their same comforts. It gave him privileges most black men didn't have at the time that he wanted to maintain and even have more of. Anyway, it doesn't and had never defined him the way 'being good at running things' had. And in that case he just likes having that kind of control where he can get it, which makes sense.
The world is what placed that kind of role onto him of what he was allowed to be able to run, not himself. And on that he actually treated the sex workers he employed well and respected them enough to give them more opportunity.** He recognizes they don't have much in the way of options either.
Louis employed sex workers, yes, but he didn't subject them to abuse, (like how Armand was)*. He didn't oversee things in a way that would go against their consent (see; episode 1 again)**. Sometimes a job is just a job. And Sex work is work.
Armand's particular past with sexual abuses may strike a particular cord with Louis, given all that, but the very last thing either is thinking is that Louis' pimping Armand out here. This is merely their decision as companions, and had nothing to do with adding another line in a laundry list of selling Armands body out to people at the command of someone else. Armand rescinds some of his control to Louis' wishes, because he wants him, and he trusts him, that's all.
If you aren't allowing Armand that choice, and are doubtful it's fully his, you're putting him right back in the box of being defined by his abuses. Putting him back into that space where he isn't given any agency over what he does. (Which is exactly opposite of what the intent of this scene is for)*.
*: (edit) added for clarity.
**: (strike through) numerous people are saying I'm misremembering these points so disregard it. (Thought he was siding with Bricks, it was the other way around). (Technically one aspect of those opportunities were for getting around the law). I don't have a perfect memory, it happens. Let's not get mad about it. Doesn't change much of the point which is that Louis, now, Louis then, was always considering more about the running things and for stated purposes. So I guess I'd say he may only have respected the SWers enough sometimes for what allowed him to do that, and there are moments he certainly expressed remorse over the fact, but he has a great deal higher respect for Armand that is genuine. It's incomparable. Please read my added notes in the tags, it should address most other concerns.
