Honestly if you wanted me to make a Minecraft movie but also made me give it a generic safe plot I would not go isekai, I would go “oh shit that’s a child” route

I’d make it animated and give steve and Alex a baby piglin and everyone’s like “why isn’t it a zombie? We need to get it back home!” And then it’s just the plot of the first ice age movie basically. Generic, predictable, kinda boring, but harmless and decent enough for a first entry into a Minecraft movie. Solid 7.5/10 movie with plenty of more room to take riskier ideas in the future and enough found family to get at least some fandom presence

SONIC 3 MOVIE REVIEW (SPOILER FREE ABOVE LINE, SPOILERS BELOW IT):

I am so mixed feeling’d about this movie right now. On one hand, I loved it. It had such a good telling of Sonic and Shadow’s dynamics and stories and how they view one another, and I loved that and will be elaborating more on this in the spoiler section. The changes they made from the video game were 50/50 to me. Some I get, others I just was really disappointed in. The action scenes are AMAZING. Battles are SICK, and I have admittedly been on the fence about Keanu voicing Shadow, but he won me over completely after watching the film.

Team Sonic’s dynamic is top tier in this movie. Knuckles, Sonic and Tails are the lights of my life, I love these brothers so much.

But if you are going into this film expecting a SHADOW movie???? You’re gonna be disappointed. This is, do not be mistaken, absolutely a Jim Carrey movie. This is a Robotnik movie 110%. Idk if they just couldn’t afford too many lines from Keanu or what, but Jim stole most the screen time. Which was hilarious and all, but it definitely stole from the deeper/darker story that was suppose to be at play. They went the insane/funny mad scientist route with Gerald rather than the vengeful and broken man he was, and this kinda falls flat and makes the whole thing feel less dangerous and life-threatening than it actually is.

I will say that what little we ARE given of Shadow is amazing. Thankfully us die-hard Shadow fans are use to picking up whatever scraps SEGA throws at us with this hedgehog and absolutely running with them. And in terms of that, we were given a MEAL. But Shadow’s story was definitely rushed rather than fleshed out. It’s like they gave us about 4 minutes of background for him and were like “Alright. That’s it. That’s him”. And then we just roll with it from then on. My hopes on the reason they did this is because we’ll perhaps get a Shadow the Hedgehog show or movie in the future where they elaborate on all this even more. But as for this movie??? Just be ready for a LOT of Robotnik.

I still think Gerald should’ve just been dead so Shadow could have more screen time instead of them cashing in on Jim Carrey. The movie as a whole was so unserious because of him.

That’s really my biggest letdown.

The whole plot felt VERY rushed. Like they were too worried about getting to the next action scene to really flesh out the story properly. Sadly this happens a lot when writers just ASSUME we know the story already so not all of it needs to be told when we just REALLY want all of it to be told. It’s also obvious they cut back on some plot points so it could stay kid friendly.

But don’t let this discourage you too much! Like I said, it really was a good movie. And it’s probably still up there as my fav simply because Shadow IS in it and Team Sonic’s moments save it for me. Not to mention Sonic and Shadow’s interactions, though few, are absolute perfection and capture them both so dang well like—

I will cherish those scenes forever. Sonadow fans have a FEAST with the scenes they were given, okay???

I give it a solid 7.5/10. Maybe 8 if they add more deleted scenes later or announce a Shadow show. :)))))

10/10 if you’re only there for Jim Carrey (whom I personally don’t care for).

Pros:

LIVE AND LEARN WAS USED AND WAS THE ABSOLUTE BEST.

The moon is successfully pissed on.

They very much did their best to make it apparent that Sonic and Shadow are the same but were simply given different fates and it’s SO GOOD BUT SO SAD. Like. Two sides to the same coin very much came across.

Them punching each other across continents was SICK.

Shadow pinning Sonic by his head was GAY.

Sonic pinning Shadow by his chest fur was GAY.

Sonic and Shadow’s talk on the moon is easily my favorite thing in the movie. Followed closely by their Super battle against each other and then their Super battle in space. I’ve recently written in my stories about how being super together creates this special bond between them, and these scenes 100% confirm/reinforce that!

Maria and Shadow scenes are PRECIOUS! Her playing guitar for him, him dragging her around the compound with her in skates, them watching the stars together- it was all beautiful!

I’m really glad they allowed a brief moment of clarity that Gerald did in fact love Shadow and care about him at one point because he’s literally the biggest butt the rest of the movie and just uses him.

StoneXRobotnik shippers will be both elated and heartbroken.

So many perfect Sonic and Tails and Knuckles bro moments omggggg their dynamic in this movie was so dang good I died. From Tails saving Sonic’s butt multiple times to Knuckles putting his angry and fiery disposition aside for his brother and handing over the master emerald— it was perfect. Knuckles is big lovable idiot energy, absolutely, but it’s not overdone. He’s serious when he needs to be and is SUCH an oldest brother. I loved his conflict with Sonic AND how he was the one who saved both Tails and Sonic at the end.

WADE IS THE GUARDIAN OF THE MASTER EMERALD.

Tbh, the entire scene where Shadow and Sonic are fighting side by side gives such huge soulmate vibes like oh my god they were VERY MUCH CONNECTED.

Their banter is EVERYTHING.

Shadow quoting Maria “even when the star is gone, its light remains” and then looking at Sonic?! GAAY.

Tom and Maria both poking Sonic and Shadow in the chest and telling them who they are in their hearts and who they choose to be is what counts. THIS being what brings them together?? PERFECTION.

Despite my annoyance at the amount of Robotnik in the movie, Eggman’s sacrifice and message to Stone was very touching.

Tails and Stone are the dream team.

Knuckles is forever scared of ghosts.

Shadow going after Tom ONLY because he thought it was the General and then immediately regretting it and feeling guilty when he sees it’s not and then having to watch Sonic cry over his body while Shadow sees himself crying over Maria is PEAK. BROKE MY HEART.

His whole story is LITERALLY based around him finally getting to settle somewhere and have a family instead of continuing to run. Makes sense.

Cons:

Um. The words “Faker” and “Ultimate Lifeform” are not ONCE uttered in this movie, and to me?? That’s absolute slander. That alone brought this movie down a whole point in my 1-10 scale, okay??? Negative 5,000 aura. Disgusting. Maybe the Commander possibly mentioned him being the Ultimate Lifeform, but Shadow never did and that’s just WRONG. This is a whole plot point in the game and in their characters from then on in the franchise, and it’s just glossed over!

Maria isn’t sick. The ARK isn’t in space. She isn’t shot. It’s all kinda dull in comparison to the game, tbh. They’re definitely still after her and shooting to kill because the soldier says “we have our orders” when Walters tries to stop him, but he still don’t shoot her so like— again. Dimmed down.

No Prison Island scenes other than the beginning when Shadow breaks out. Which was. Super disappointing.

It’s all just so unserious. Especially the Robotniks.

Chaos are just Japanese mascots. Which is big sad for Cream and Cheese fans.

No creation of Shadow = no Biolizard

No “Sayonara, Shadow the Hedgehog”. They tried to reference this with a joke from Jim Carrey, but it fell flat imo.

Indifferent/Open to:

Shadow came from a meteor. He wasn’t created. While I hate Gerald didn’t inherently create him, I am also glad this leaves room for the Black Arms to become a thing. It’s also very possible GUN and Gerald were both just lying about this. Because it very meticulously did NOT show Shadow actually coming from the meteor in any scenes. It just showed the meteor crash site and how it had Shadow/Balck Arms coloring. So maybe Gerald still did experiment on a hedgehog and stuff and it’s just lied about because that’s like— not okay??? But also, I noticed it never showed any like. Major accident that would’ve caused GUN to suddenly invade like that?? They just suddenly decided Shadow was too powerful and they needed to kill everyone while in the games, there were multiple incidents where people were hurt or compromised by the artificial chaos experiments before GUN invaded. PLUS Towers had seen and reported Gerald making a deal with the devil (Black Doom). So like— why would GUN just suddenly decide to annihilate everyone in Project Shadow like that??? It would be one thing if they just decided to shut them down, but they were actively going in there to KILL! So like— I feel like we’re missing pieces and being mislead.

Rouge isn’t there. Which I GET because how/why would she be?? By the end of the movie, there’s definitely ways for more mobians to start appearing (Amy is a prime example). So it makes sense that Rouge isn’t there yet because it’s EARTH so how WOULD she be??? And Shadow using chaos control at the end could open ways to other worlds (like in Sonic X when Sonic went super the first time and more Mobians started arriving on earth). But there were SO MANY MOMENTS SHE WOULDVE BEEN PERFECT. So it’s a shame, but understandable. Plus, how could they have made room for Rouge when they barely had room for Shadow with all the JIM CARREY.

I’ll probably continue to add to this as I process this movie over the next few days.

I watched venom 3 yesterday which I have trouble rating because in a objective standpoint its a bad movie, plot was all over the place,not enough back story for side characters, interducing crucial characters only for them to die meaninglessly. but I had the time of my life every second I was in that theater, so I wanna give it a 11/10 for entertainment and 8/10 for Eddie x venom action I deducted 2 points because they didn't show them doing freaking Alien sex and -10/10 for the ending i was bawling my eyes out THWY WERE SUPPOSED TO GET MARRIED AND HAVE 200 BABIES IM DISTRAUGHT!!! And over all, I'd give it a 7.5/10. Great movie will watch again.

PERSONAL NOTES:

The Buccaneers is pretty feminist and wholesome, although oftentimes childish and full of Netflix cliches (even though it's an Apple TV original). It tries very hard to be Dickinson and Little Women but is a far cry away from Dickinson's edge and fierceness and Little Women's maturity and realism. It's more interested in appealing to Bridgerton audiences and its worse for it. But it's still full of the nice stuff, like strong female friendships and sisterhoods. Ooh, and lesbians! It's adamantly female-centric.

As for Little Women, I prefer the 90s version with Winona Ryder, but Greta did more justice to the source material than Louisa May Alcott herself in the new version.

The Book Thief and The World to Come are also tragedies, so you know. Ammonite, Portrait of a Lady on Fire, Summerland and The Favourite are lesbians and bisexuals in their full glory, although all of them have vastly different tones (The Favourite is a dark comedy, I believe).

Speaking of The Favourite, Mary & George is like that but it's men vying for the affections of the king. Don't get it twisted though, Mary, George's mom, is the protagonist and primary mover of the show. It starts and ends with her. Also, more lesbianism! (I don't get tired of pointing that out.)

Belle is one of the few autobiographical historical fictions of a black woman. My dad and I love it. It, however, does not surpass The Woman King. The Woman King is like . . . one of the best historical movies on African women I've ever watched! Or just in general! It gives so much agency to African people in the colonial age and tells the story with nuance and perspective--it is a decolonized view on the slave trade that places West African people at the center. It's pretty intense and gory, though. Like it's dark, but like the performances are insanely good, and so is the story. Real life Wakanda and all that!

classroom trap - jesus fuck. i think i might just die here. like. i probably Could. but i don’t know if i would even have the willpower? like i feel like i would rather just explode. survivability 2/10.

angel trap - yeah i’m getting out of here. i’m no bitch, and i would dunk my hand in that jar real quick and speedy like, and then get right to work on the lock. i could hype myself up real quick, and honestly, i feel confident that i could shake off the acid and not even cause that much damage to my hand. survivability 9/10.

shotgun collar - i am not a doctor. so this is a little iffy. but i honestly feel like i might actually be able to pull this off without getting shot by that thing. i will manually make his heart beat beat. i’ll give that nasty old man mouth to mouth for as long as i have to, and then i’ll brush my teeth for seventeen minutes straight to get the taste out. i also think i could do a good enough diy lobotomy that the pressure on his brain would let up at least a little. i think with that he would survive long enough for jeff to get through his traps, but if that’s looking iffy, i have a backup plan. i’m seducing amanda and i’m going to get her to let me out of the collar. we’re most certainly getting yuriful in there just for fun no matter what, so i might as well weaponize it. backup plan three i also think i could take the collar off without detonating it. cant be that hard. i have a small head. also, i’m not letting amanda shoot me at the end because again, she would be in love with me by now. all things considered, survivability 8/10.

jeff’s box - yeah i’m breaking out of here no problemo. does this even count as a trap? i don’t really care. survivability 10/10.

the freezer room - i’m wiggling out of those chains even if i have to dislocate my wrists. but also i think i would be able to convince jeff to let me out a lot quicker. i’m pretty tolerant to the cold, and also my beautiful nude body would be so attractive to jeff that he would forgive me for not stopping his son from dying and set me free. survivability 8/10. as jeff, there’s no real threat to me here. i’m saving her and getting out just fine. survivability 10/10.

the pig vat - WHAT THE FUCK! WHAT THE FUCK! WHAT THE FUCK!!! OH MY GOD. this shit is fucking foul. i just heated up my grilled cheese and this is what you show me. i mean obviously jeff chose kindness and let him out eventually but jesus. i’d probably kill myself afterwards out of disgust. survivability 7/10 (considering the suicide probability) but i would never eat meat again. as jeff i’m letting him out way quicker, having a little bit of a hard time putting my hand in the goop, but ultimately escaping with both of our lives. survivability 10/10.

the rack - OW! OW! OW! jesus FUCK! they are not playing with these nasty ass traps! i would not survive this. what the fuck. my head and limbs are so getting ripped off. fuck my stupid life. 0/10 survivability. as jeff i’m fine. lickety spit i’m pulling the key off with my head far out of the way. 9/10 survivability (just in case i somehow fumble and get shot.)

eric matthews bathroom trap - yeah he seemed to have an easy enough time of it and i’m way smarter than him. it was clearly way easier than the initial bathroom trap. and i wouldn’t beat up amanda or be a cunt about all of it because i’m niceys, so therefore she wouldn’t kick my stump leg and leave me to die. 8/10 survivability.

jeff’s final test: i’m nice so i would not kill him and thus would not be trapped to die. i would leave and call the police so they would arrest him. i’m not stupid. survivability 10/10.

overall film survivability considering 9 traps (but 12 individual people’s chances when put through said traps) 7.5/10. nasty ass movie and nasty ass traps but i’m built different.

Considering the Predator movie Marathon i made way back in Halloween, I feel now in a mood to comment on which movies I liked the best. Especially on a a scale on how much I enjoyed them.

Keep in mind, these are just my opinion, everyone is entitled to their own tastes, i'm no way shape or form a movie critic, so don't take these too seriously.

(Obvious spoilers for the movies)

Predator (1987): Honestly, for being an 'action' movie, the pacing was really slow. Like literally the only entertaining bits for me where the Predators scenes and they were very few and far in between. We only get to that cool fight between Dutch and El Diablo (badass nickname honestly) at the literal end and the rest is just about a bunch of sweaty military man walking around in the jungle and getting picked one my one. Did not care one bit when they got killed either since most are just assholes. I still give it a 7.5/10 for being the one to start off the franchise.

Predator 2 (1990): In my opinion, objectively an improvement from the first one by a lot. The Predator is part of the plot since the start, the action is satisfying and while the pacing goes at a neck break speed, making it feel very over the top and hammy, i was having a blast through it all. The human characters feel like a buch of stereotypes of 90' cop movies (the rouge cop that does whatever he wants, the cop best friend that gets killed, the chic cop, the newbie, the evil druglords) but the predator being part of the mix kinda saves it from being too cliche like the rest of his genre. I give it a solid 8/10.

Alien VS Predator (2004): AvP is an interesting case for me. It's a very much a movie of it's time, that got that 2000’ movie energy where they try to be so cool and edgy, in some scenes it can work, while in others, it kinda fumbles. The CGI doesn't help either. But the elements that do work, like Lex and Scar team up, the Xeno Queen fight, the idea in general of Yautja hunting Xenos as a trial of sorts, make the movie for me (if we don't count the finale). It's a good movie to vibe with, just to see cool predator action, so I say it's a 6 or 7/10.

AvP Requiem (2007): Did not watch it. No opinion. (Literally everyone agrees that Wolf is the sole worth it part in this movie)

Predators (2010): It's not bad.... But not good either. Recently, a friend asked for recommendations on Predator movies, and without hesitation I said 'do no recommend' about this movie, so that says a lot. None of the human characters are actually interesting, the predators get so little screen time, Cruci predator deserved better and in general, it has a lot of wasted potential. The movie is even supposed to take place on an alien planet, which sounds so interesting as a setting, but they made it look like every generic jungle in a movie ever (with a few weird plants, a funky skyline and ONE scene with another alien creature that isn't a yautja or a hound). It didn't completely ruin the vibe, but I definitely won't come back to this movie anytime soon, 4/10.

The Predator (2018): Did not watch it. No opinion. (The few things I saw and heard discouraged me in an heartbeat.)

Prey (2022): I do not care if I'm saying what everyone else has, Prey IS a good movie. Even if you're not familiar with the franchise, it's a good movie to enjoy, with great cinematography, good special effects, a badass design for a Predator AND a human main character that I can actually root for and I care about if she manages to survive or not by the end (if we also count Lex from AvP. That girl and Scar deserved so much better.). Her victory felt earned, even if I still feel salty that every Yautja must die by the end of their movie. Might be slightly influenced because the bar of comparison for the other movies is low at this point, but it deserves a 9/10.

I just finished Marvel’s Echo and I was excited to go on Tiktok so people’s thoughts and opinions.

That was my first mistake.

Cause all everybody wanna mention is either CGI and Daredevil, or just some shit that didn’t involve the show at all. And I’m like… what is wrong with you people? Like genuinely.

Echo is a good show. Is it a 10/10, no. But not even show or movie needs to be a 10/10. People’s obsession with perfection to the masses is crippling the entertainment industry. Not every movie is gonna be like Avatar or Endgame. Not every series is going to be like ATLA or Stranger Things. There was a time that people cherished mediocre tv shows and movies. The early 2000s is FULL OF THEM. But we still ate that shit up, and still do till this day.

Echo was about taking the wrong path after experiencing pain. It’s the two paths that we see every hero face. It’s the good side or the bad side. Maya chose the bad side, which we don’t see that often. And the story is also about connecting back to your roots after cutting that part of your life out. As a person of color, I instantly related to that shit and I loved how they portrayed it. The dialogue was great. The comedy was great, and it didn’t seem to be out of place either. The tone was great as well.

The only criticism I have of the show that at time it didn’t feel like there was much of a beginning to end when it came to the plot. But other than that, I don’t have any problems with this show.

And spoilers, btw, but when Maya and King Pin came face to face in like the final showdown or whatever, I kind of like the direction they went with. Maya didn’t defeat him by beating the shit out of him or killing him. No she defeated him by fucking with his head. She showed him his deepest pain and FORCED him to come in terms with that shit. And it fucked him up so bad that he had to leave!

I give the show a solid 7.5/10. I would even raise it up to 8 just because of the cinematography, the music, and the filmmaking. The filmmaking of this show was spot on.

Watching Sam Hazeldine's Movies, part 2:

I've added three more of Sam Hazeldine's films to my watched list: The Machine (2013), Persuasion (2007), and The Last Duel (2021).

First up, I really enjoyed The Machine; it's a solid 90-minute AI thriller. Sam's role in it is fairly small, and it's actually one of the critiques I have of the movie - I would've liked a little more of his character. Besides that, the movie is filled with solid performances including those of Caity Lotz (who is excellent), Toby Stephens, and Denis Lawson. It's nothing life-changing, but is a solidly engaging film. It can be found for free on tubi.

Next, I watched Persuasion. I'll be honest that I was completely unfamiliar with this story, having never read the book or seen any other adaptation. I enjoyed the film and Sam's performance as Charles Musgrove; he reminded me a bit of Hugh Laurie in the role. This movie is very Adar heavy as Joseph Mawle is also in it! Really enjoyed him in his role. Overall, I can't say it's my favorite movie in the world, but I'm glad I watched it; there was a lot of running towards the end 😂 It can be watched on Peacock.

Most recently, I watched The Last Duel. This is a movie I'd been meaning to watch since it came out in 2021, so I was glad to finally sit down with it. Firstly regarding Sam's role - I spotted him a couple of times sitting next to several of the main supporting characters at the duel, but I didn't spot him anywhere else in the film? I'm not sure if I just missed him, or if most of his scenes were cut... given where he is sitting in the opening scene, I expected to see more of him.

The movie as a whole is good - I think I'd give it a 7.5/10. Jodie Comer is excellent in her role and Adam Driver also gives a solid performance. Where I came away a bit puzzled, though, was with Matt Damon and, in particular, Ben Affleck. Neither of their performances were bad, but they just seemed to be really odd casting. It didn't necessarily take away from the film (though good lord what was going on with Ben Affleck's hair) but I do think that some different actors might have added a bit to it. Jodie Comer was, in my opinion, the highlight of the film.

This movie is available to rent online, though I got the DVD from my library (and ugh the DVD is so frustrating to navigate; I accidentally hit the scene back button and I swear it went back 20 minutes). Stoner Mutuals! I Seek Your Advice!

So, a while back I decided, “hey, I’m in my late forties and weed is legal here now, might as well give it a try.” Thing is, I don’t smoke and don’t particularly want to. So, edibles it is, then.

Turns out that at least for me, edibles take two hours to kick in. This makes for a steep learning curve, and I keep giving up. Over approximately a year-and-a-half, I’ve tried edibles three times. The results so far:

Attempt #1. 10 mg (5 of CBD and 5 of THC)— Waayy too much. I was totally baked and very giggly. Yes, I knew I was supposed to try a tiny bit and wait half-an-hour to see if anything happened before trying any more. See what I wrote above about it taking two hours for me to feel any effects. On the upside, stoner references in the media now make more sense to me. It really does make you want to talk about time, space, and magic to anybody who’ll listen.

Attempt #2. 2.5 mg— Not enough. No noticeable effects at all.

Attempt #3. 5 mg— Still not enough. I felt very slightly more relaxed than usual, but not enough to be worth the two-hour wait.

Have decided to give it another go this weekend and see if 7.5 mg is the sweet spot. I’ve also decided to try a different product which is mainly THC, as that sounds more interesting (I gather the effects of CBD are ‘feeling relaxed,’ and I can get that from one alcoholic beverage and save myself an hour and fifty minutes).

So— does 7.5 mg THC make sense? Any movie recommendations? (checks info on packet— huh, this says it can take up to *four* hours to feel the full effects. This seems like the most inconvenient recreational substance ever)

BLUE AND GREEN PART 2 SPOILERS

Honestly don't really have a lot to say about this special, it just felt like a really long episode which isn't bad but they were hyping this up as an actual movie type special, the ending really surprised me though.

I thought this special was alright I was expecting a bit more with the villains instead of them just being like "oh the Wild Kratts are here, where are we gonna build?" Until the very end and the Kratts Brothers apologizing for getting mad at eachother over colors but the animal facts were phenomenal as always, for the hype they were giving this special I wish it was a bit better but I'll take what I can get. I'm giving it a 7.5/10

My opinions on Marauders era ship names (my opinions no hate)

— Wolfstar - 7.5/10, I really like it it’s like a wolf howling to the moon but expect to a star, which is strange but beautiful. I’ve heard it sm it’s kinda normal for me idk, it doesn’t strike me that much. ~ Moonstar - 8.5/10, I love this also, I prefer this one tho. This one feels right and just seems more like engaging ig?

— Jily - 8/10, very cute name. Jily is the og name and I love it but.. ~ Flowerpot - 9.5/10 i love this name SM better, it sounds more iconic and rare idk, Flowerpot does different stuff to me. Gives me more love and home-y vides which fit them sm

— Pandalily - 9/10, it’s reminds me of a sunny day with rain: the perfect mix of warm and cooling down. It’s so cute ‘panda’ and ‘lily’ is such a cute mix and I love it
