Why Zutara Shippers are Wrong (JK, You can ship who you want lol)

(Although, I don't care if you do actually ship Zutara, that's your prerogative, I'm just waiting for better arguments for the relationship and for people to stop negatively viewing Kataang)

First of all, I'm premising this with the fact that I don't think that ATLA should have ended with Katara and Aang kissing. I think it would have been fine to just end with a slightly more intimate-than-friends hug/cuddle. I would have personally preferred that two children who survived being literal child soldiers get the chance to be kids before they delve into a more mature relationship with one another, but they didn't exactly have adults of the modern culture there to guide them a different way, now did they?

BUT! I am a firm believer that Zuko and Katara would never have worked out romantically and that Katara and Aang's relationship 1. makes more sense and 2. is actually healthier in the scope of trauma and trauma responses.

First of all, I don't understand how the creators of ATLA managed to craft literally the MOST traumatic childhood backstory ever with incredible detail and nuance and everyone just fricking glosses over it like WTF??? Not to mention, the creators did an amazing job diversifying trauma responses to similar trauma experiences.

Let's discuss Katara's childhood trauma, which was not healed magically after a little side quest with Zuko. Katara carries immense survivor's guilt over her mother's murder. Katara understands very well how and why her mother was brutally murdered in their family home. She has been deeply aware of this since the day of her mother's murder - and she fully blames herself. Katara understands that a fire nation soldier killed her mother, but he killed her because of Katara - she said so herself. Then, Katara, who was the last person to interact with her mother, discovers her mother's body, and it is insinuated that Katara might have even witnessed her mother's brutal execution-style murder. This forever alters Katara down to her core personality traits. Katara is 'bossy' because of her trauma. I work with kids from pre-k through graduating american high school. It's pretty normal for girls to do what I call 'mothering' to their peers and to kids younger than them. It often is described as being 'bossy' and some girls are in fact bossy, but for the most part, they are roleplaying a caretaker mentality as they are most familiar with. In Katara's deep guilt of being the reason her mother was murdered, her trauma response was burden herself with the role of mother. This is further antagonized when her father leaves with the rest of the adult men to fight against the Fire Nation. He might've well as died too due to lack of communication for many years. Sokka does not allow Katara to mother him for very long, so she doesn't get to have a chance to work through her personal trauma response to her grief because she has no one to safely and consistently direct these mothering tendencies towards. The other children in the village are not orphans, their mothers are most likely very alive and very involved with them, so they would be temporary fillers at best. Sokka has stepped into the role of village man and definitely would reject Katara's mothering, which often led to tension between the siblings. Toph had the very reaction to Katara's mothering tendencies as I expect a young Sokka had to them. He lost his mother, too, he didn't want a replacement, nor did he want to lose his sister to the role of mother.

Zuko, in the same fashion as Sokka, had a mother who he loved, and lost, and was not looking to replace. Zuko's mother was also a topic that is deeply rooted in a lot of Zuko's personal trauma as well. Zuko did not get to spend much time with Katara for her mothering tendencies to be extended over him, but he definitely would have aggressively rejected them as Katara's trauma response would have negatively triggered his own. Their trauma would have deeply and negatively impacted any romantic relationship they could have developed because of how they would react to each other. Their relationship would have crashed and burned very quickly.

On top of that. Katara would have never left the South Pole indefinitely - that is her home, and she consistently returned to it throughout her life. That is an effect of her cultural upbringing. Zuko couldn't leave the Fire Nation, and as we saw in the graphic novels that followed, Zuko's personal welfare suffered greatly because his whole world was upended and now he was responsible for the one nation that didn't get peace at the end of the war. It's incredibly naive and slightly delusional for people to desperately push romantic wishes upon a sixteen-year-old boy who was burdened with the responsibility of healing an entire nation, one that fought him every step of the way in many aspects. He did not have the emotional energy to expend upon a frivolous relationship. That's why Mai and he broke up, not because they didn't love each other, but because Zuko simply could not have personal relationships until his reign and nation had stabilized - that alone would take upwards of 10 years. Plus, Zuko may have helped others work through parts of their trauma, but he had to address his trauma too, which we saw the beginnings of during the graphic novels. Simply put, by the end of ATLA and all of the graphic novels, Zuko was in no place emotionally, mentally, and even physically and politically to seek out a relationship that was meaningful and healthy. And I know that Zuko would have changed the tradition of political marriage, at the very least he deserves to have married for love at the end of everything he suffered through. Zuko is a great opportunity to normalize waiting until you're in your mid-twenties -thirties before seeking out romantic relationships. Logistically speaking, I don't think there would have been much opportunity for romantic feelings to develop between the two of them. I especially don't think Katara would have easily been able to live in the Fire Nation because the Fire Nation was directly responsible for her trauma, and that is also why I don't think she would have every pursued a relationship with a Fire Nation man, Zuko or not.

Now onto Aang. Everyone always jumps onto this idea that Katara and Aang had a very mother-son relationship - which is wrong. Aang comes from a culture that literally does not have mother and fatherhood. There are NO mothers and fathers in the Air Nomad Nation. Sure, kids had birth parents, but parenthood was not part of their culture, nor did Aang ever seek out that kind of relationship. Aang may have been kid-like, but he was the most adultified kid in the group. He was incredibly independent and confident in his ability to travel internationally by himself at 12. Katara had never thought to leave the South Pole to seek out a waterbending master in the North Pole because she didn't have that confidence or training. The Air Nomads thrived on a mentorship-based village raising of children. So, Aang never thought of Katara as his mother. He literally couldn't, because he had no scope of reference for such a relationship, same with fatherhood. He never had a parental relationship with Monk Gyasto. It was more like a fun uncle mentorship. I think that's why everyone thinks Aang was a bad father, but he was an outlier in the Air Nomad nation because there was no Air Nomad nation when he had children. The village that raised the children in his culture was gone. He was actually a fairly decent father and the two older children probably felt bitter because Tenzin was the only other air bender in existence so it obviously Aang is going to spend a lot of one on one time with Tenzin in the scope of mentoring Tenzin in the way of Air Nomad culture. Aang was not an absentee father like how many people assumed from the very one-sided and brief explanation given by the two older, jaded siblings. Was he perfect? No, he literally had no clue how to be a father. Did he and Tenzin leave to get milk and never come back? Also no. That being said, Aang was the only individual who was comfortable with Katara mothering him, he never felt threatened or overburdened by her trauma response, which allowed for Katara to genuinely work through her grief and mature out of the extreme bossy mothering we first saw in book one. If you pay attention, yes Katara does retain that 'bossy' kind of personality, but that was permanent fixture due to her childhood trauma and a little bit of cultural influence as well. I think, if Katara had never been traumatized, she would have always leaned towards a very soothing and nuturing type of personality, which we began to see in the middle of book three. Her bossiness/mothering trauma response gradually lessened the longer she 'mothered' Aang. Once again, neither of the two saw each other as Mother-son. They were simple too close in age and Aang also had the added sense of duty-boundness due to being the Avatar. Katara was always going to be a caretaker archetype personality, trauma or no, and that simply wasn't the type of person that Zuko would lean towards for a romantic relationship due to his own personal upbringing and culture. Aang is a much more gentle and playfully empathetic personality that works with Katara's firm care and sassy disposition.

In the graphic novels, I personally saw a great deal of healing and maturation in Katara in relation to her trauma. She was less mothering towards Aang, too, and I think that had a lot to do with the fact that Aang matured a lot as well and the change in their once platonic relationship to a more romantic-leaning one. Was their relationship perfect? No, they are kids who survived a horrific war and many many trauma-inducing situations. However, once Katara fully leaned away from the mothering habit, we get to see that Aang allows Katara to relax and be more playful. She genuinely was just happy with Aang. He pushed her to be a little more child-like and to have child-like fun even as they grew up into adulthood. Katara helped Aang mature and face a lot of adult burdens that were placed child.

In the end, Katara and Aang always brought out the best in each other. Katara and Zuko didn't have enough time together in ATLA to develop an individual relationship outside of the group. There simply isn't enough time outside of their little side-quest in which Katara and Zuko interact solo- which was definitely NOT Katara's best, and in fact was Katara lashing out aggressively towards people who loved and cared for her and she them. Zuko was also not his 'best' in that time either as he was also being triggered emotionally. In fact, during ATLA, there's way too much negative tension between the two of them that leads to really intense disagreements and emotional outbursts more often than not until Katara begrudgingly accepts Zuko into the group, they don't even positively interact until Ember Island which is what, two weeks? She's not exactly nice when she pretty much demands him to help her hunt down the man that murdered her mother. Zuko is all gung-ho about vengeance too. Of course, they both have a lesson learning moment, but that episode cemented in my brain that Aang is the better partner for Katara than Zuko. Aang, once again the most mature in the Gaang, fight me on this, has a deep, empathetic understanding of the world, he doesn't do a great job trying to explain to Katara, but I think that's because no one in the Gaang understands how Appa is not just an air bison, and Aang never views Appa as an air bison like how everyone else in ATLA do. To everyone else, Appa's an animal, but to Aang and Aang's culture that is deeply offensive, Appa is an individual with emotions and value outside of what he can offer the group in terms of transportation and that's never really explicitly clarified to the audience either (because despite being a kid's cartoon, the creators knew their audience well and did not treat the audience like we are stupid and can in fact infer and read between the lines). If Katara had killed that pathetic worm of a man, it would have absolutely destroyed her as a person. She would not have been able to heal from her trauma and would probably suffer even more trauma and guilt. This side-quest was a plot point to lead up to the big debate of killing Ozai, and not many, in fact I don't know if anyone has talked about that fact. I have no doubt that Zuko has probably killed people, at the very least, he's deeply desensitized to people dying as I think he probably at some point did experience or witness some form of warfare battle before he began chasing Aang down.

Once again, I don't really care if you do ship Katara and Zuko. In fact, I think that's a-okay. But, with the Netflix live action adaptation's take on the Secret Tunnel scene, I've seen a lot of people speculating and even hoping for it to become canon and there have even been some opinions of Kataang that have resurfaced that really rub me the wrong way because it feels like many individuals are just looking at the surface level of ATLA. There's so much nuance to each individual character in terms of culture, societal norms, age and gender, and most importantly, trauma and trauma responses. The creators did an amazing job world building and story telling that a lot of what I put up in my opinion in preference for Kataang over Zutara is information that I inferred from the show and graphic novels due to my personal experience and education in familial relationships and childhood trauma. My thoughts are not the end all be all to this debate, nor do I think they should be, I've seen some really solid opinions in favor of Zutara that I can understand and somewhat agree with. I think a lot of those details and moments that people look to as indicators of romance between Katara and Zuko were remnants of the creators' previous intention, but I think that the change to Aang and Katara as end game was logistically and realistically more accurate. I never thought that Katara and Zuko were meant to be, and I always struggled to put to words as to why until I had pursued my psych studies in college that focused on child development, childhood trauma, and marriage and family counselling. I think that the creators instinctually were seeing the red flags that would have occurred naturally within Zutara and changed course accordingly. There were just a lot of details and nuances that I noticed personally that I wished more people would discuss.

Demon Slayer Swap Au

Just info dumping here because my mind can't contain it anymore.

Main Cast

Nezuko Kamado: Similarly to the first episode, Nezuko was tasked to sell charcoal for their neighbors for the winter since Tanjiro was currently sick with a cold. Nezuko wanted to be helpful for her older brother so she offered to do his job for the night. Of course, the entire family gets slaughtered when she returns except for Tanjiro. Treachery occurs until Michikatsu arrives to execute the elder Kamado. Nezuko, with the power of sElFleSs SiBliNG LoVe, reminds Michikatsu too much of Yoriichi and ceases the execution before taking flight. Later (insert the same trip Tanjiro took before encountering Urokodaki), she meets the old hermit and gets taken in by him. Nezuko's progression with Urokodaki is the same as Tanjiro's in cannon. Of course, she completes Final selection and goes off on her missions, eventually learning Spring Breathing (we'll go over that later). Soon she gets picked up by an OC of mine who leads her to the Demon Slayer Corps Headquarters via interest in her abilities. And the rest is history.

Tanjiro Kamado: During the middle of winter, Tanjiro caught a cold, and Nezuko decided to do the charcoal deliveries for him. Tragedy strikes the Kamados are slaughtered except for Tanjiro, who absorbs the demon blood and turns. The same things in the first episode happen: Tanjiro tries to eat Nezuko but doesn't, Michikatsu arrives but refuses to execute him, the two are left to their own devices and the journey begins. I generally believe that Hinokami Kagura can only be achieved by the males of the family, hence why Nezuko uses a basic breathing style. Tanjiro's abilities and Blood Demon Art are the same as cannon Nezuko's, however, his demon crest is the scar on his forehead, and his horns are tiny and curl upward. Obviously Tanjiro has the same bamboo muzzle tied by Michikatsu.

Zenitsu Agatsuma: Pretty much the same as cannon. Becomes a better genuine person slowly but is still a bit clingy and complains about things. It's a slow process but he's getting there.

Inosuke Hashibira: Pretty much the same as well. His story progresses the exact same: trying to pick a fight with Nezuko, to which Zenitsu and he get into a physical fight. Lots of fights.

Demon Slayer Corps Members

Muzan Kibutsuji: Runs the corps like a tight ship. He's got the wit, the strategy, and the temper as the cannon. Of course, many people see this temperament negatively, but they can't help but respect him as a leader; he's able to come up with plans to prevent demons from spreading around. Despite his own shortcomings and the disease he has, his ability to run the corps effectively has earned him the loyalty of most of the slayers. He may not always be understanding but he's smart enough to know how to approach sensitive topics and deal with the consequences that come with having slayers and being the leader of the corps. The disease and the timeline are still the same btw.

I'm aware Muzan has a wife and a daughter, but for the sake of this AU there's no wife and he's infertile due to the disease.

Michikatsu Tsugikuni: Michikatsu's own story proceeds the same without much change. His pride, his jealousy, his drive, all of it remains the same. That is until he meets Yoriichi face-to-face. And of course, he's jealous; not only did his brother best him again in skill, but was also able to ascend so freely. Yet due to that, He rejects Yoriichi's offer to join him in serving Kagaya, rather striving to work harder through sheer effort and arduous training to show who's stronger: Faustian bargains or humane hard work? The two went toe-to-toe after this; Michikatsu was defeated, but spared by Yoriichi, interested if the work effort he was putting into himself would actually surpass him in power. As the Moon Hashira, Michikatsu persists in killing his brother for the final fight. He uses a standard Nichirin sword.

I emphasize the weapons used for every hashira because not everyone is gonna have the same sword.

Douma Hashibira: Backstory is still the same in terms of context: Parents followed Gyomei's cult and believed Douma was their golden child, which they get to flaunt spread the good word of Gyomei and the eternal paradise cult. Soon, mother found out father was cheating and killed him, then killed herself and Douma's just like 🧍‍♂️. Upon wandering the world parentless and lackadaisical, he gets attacked by a demon and hides in a shrine until Urokodaki finds him and takes him in, despite being incredibly concerned about how a boy could be so indifferent to near-death experiences. During his training, Douma has formed a personal breathing style derived from Water Breathing known as Ice breathing and uses a tessen embedded with Nichirin knives. Becomes the Ice Hashira.

Hakuji "Akaza" Kawakami: Not much changes a lot about Akaza's backstory except Koyuki and her father were slain by demons instead of poison. Soon, began hunting demons down on his own to seek revenge for their deaths. Ended up just coming across Urokodaki like how Douma was. Absolutely LOATHES Douma despite training alongside him for months. While Akaza is an incredibly skilled martial artist, he uses dual-wielding Nichirin swords. Develops Power Breathing and becomes the Power Hashira in the process. The most loyal to Master Muzan.

Yes, I am making up fake real names for the upper moons. So what? It feels more complete that way.

Zohakutan Hatengu: Due to the neglect of his father and being raised by a senile, criminal grandfather, Zohakutan was diagnosed with dissociative identity disorder (DID). The clones/quadruplets are his multiple personalities: Sometimes he's Zohakutan, other times he can be the hot-headed Sekido or the emotional Aizetsu or the hedonic Karaku, or the jocular Urogi. He tends to dissociate himself from the other clones and can shift real quick depending on the circumstances. In other words, he's as delusional as his grandfather. Muzan takes him into his home in return for loyalty. He develops the Nature Breathing style, becomes the Nature Hashira, and uses a Nichirin cutlass.

Managai "Gyokko" Hamaguchi: Anonymous pottery artist turned local pickpocketer since his art was never sold. Gyokko never had a stable home to live in so he constantly moved towns in order to not get caught. Eventually got caught and was sentenced to death until Muzan stepped in to "take him as a slave" when really he was just more interested in his cunning. Used Water Breathing which evolved to Ocean Breathing. Eventually became the Ocean Hashira and used a Nichirin chakram.

Ume "Daki" Shabana: Becomes a hashira after Gyutaro. Backstory proceeds as cannon: the Ice Hashira comes across the siblings while on the hunt for a lower moon inhabiting the area. The two get adopted by Douma due to sheer pity and train underneath him. Daki was excited to become a slayer but Gyutaro's older brother protectiveness forces her to stay in the mansion, away from the gore and harm. Thankfully, Douma allows her to sneak off on other missions to get some experience in. Of course, that doesn't last very long when Gyutaro catches her in the same area he was one mission and carries her back to headquarters to then absolutely scorn Douma for throwing his little sister into harm when she's perfectly fine and is actually good at the job. She was given a whip sword exactly like Mitsuri's and creates Fabric Breathing, a derivative of Wind Breathing. Becomes the Fabric Hashira.

Gyutaro Shabana: Becomes a hashira before Daki. Backstory proceeds as cannon: the Ice Hashira comes across the siblings while on the hunt for a lower moon inhabiting the area. The two get adopted by Douma due to sheer pity and train underneath him. Having older brother responsibilities, Gyutaro forbid Daki from demon slaying, letting him do the dirty work while she stay safe at headquarters. Gyutaro formerly used Wind Breathing until a battle with a former Lower Moon One infected him with its blood demon art: a noxious mold that was spreading across that neighboring towns. However, instead of killing him, Gyutaro utilizes the demon art with his wind breathing to create Plague Breathing, which kills the Lower Moon. Expecting to return to headquarters soon, he encounters Daki in the infected field he was in and took her straight home. Scorned Douma for dispatching her on missions alone, even this was the same man who he's ever grateful for. Becomes the Plague Hashira. Uses dual-wielding Nichirin sickles. Soon studies anatomy, various viruses and cures to later become the head of the infirmary. Butts heads with Enmu a lot.

Nakime Nakisakebu: A former biwa musician from the entertainment district struggling to live with her abusive, gambling addict husband. Contributing nothing for their living, Nakime threatens to leave her husband. The husband retaliates by slashing her right eye out with a knife and beats her to a pulp. Nakime successfully escapes from the district, but encounters a demon in the process. Michikatsu saves her and returns her to headquarters where her body can properly heal. Moved by her savior, she becomes a member of the corps, but due to her deformed body, she lacked the strength needed to cut a demon's neck. Thus, she uses a bow and wisteria poison dipped arrows. Soon, becomes the Music Hashira.

Rui Jorohime: Same backstory as cannon, however was cured of his aliment due to the help of Gyutaro and Enmu, who later decided to just take him back to headquarters. Favorited by Muzan himself, Rui strives for greatness to make his master proud. Creates Arachnid Breathing, a derivative of Insects Breathing and becomes the Arachnid Hashira, the youngest Hashira amongst the rest being only 14 years old. Uses a standard Nichirin sword and has a pet white tarantula named Shokki.

(Dr.) Enji "Enmu" Muto: Assigned doctor to Muzan and been in his debt forever. Enmu isn't really liked amongst the Hashira; they all think he's weird. But he is a good doctor, so no one could really kick him out. Helps out as a nurse in the infirmary alongside Gyutaro, who just CANNOT STAND him.

A/N; So there was an anonymous person who had requested a my hero academia x a rude reader who opens up overtime, but unfortunately my dumbass accidentally posted it while it wasn’t ready so anon whoever you are I hope you find this and I hope you like it! Since they didn’t specify I decided to do a little bit for every character I write! (Except for Eri since I only write platonic fics for her)

My Hero Academia x reader who’s rude at first, but opens up later on

Izuku

He kinda interacts with you how he would with Bakugo at first

Is also probably scared half to death by you

Avoids you at all costs at first

Honestly he thinks you hate him until you clear up that you don’t

After that, when you begin to open up, he genuinely likes talking with you

If he can get the courage, he’ll probably ask if you wanna hang out somewhere to get to know each other, and hell, maybe the two of you can get closer than you thought you would <3

Bakugo

He likes your spunk

Honestly, he actually really likes that you’ve got the balls to talk back to him

Would probably wanna spar with you a lot if your also a hero in training

It’s easier for him to make friends with you because of the fact that you guys are so similar

When you open up, so does he

And when that happens it’s just sorta a rare vulnerable moment for the both of you

He trusts you a lot. Don’t break that trust.

Todoroki

At first he didn’t like you

You remind him too much of Bakugo

Too negative, too cynical

He generally doesn’t speak to you

Until you accidentally hurt Uraraka’s feelings on accident

He asks you what the hell’s your problem, which is followed by a lecture about how you’ve gotta fix your attitude

When you apologize to Uraraka and explain you really didn’t actually mean to hurt anyone, he calms down

He does his best to understand why you might not open up so easy, for whatever reason

From then on, you, Todoroki, and Uraraka are a pretty close friend group

Yes, Uraraka ships the two of you

Aizawa

He gets it

He’s had tough students before, and even if you aren’t his student, you’re no different

When the two of you go on a mission together, he explains that you two need to work together, which means trusting each other

He asks if you would at the very least trust him to save you to which you say yes

When the villains in cuffs, he compliments you on your skills, and then walks off

From then on there was just some sort of close unspoken bond

Dabi

Again, nothing new.

He has to deal with Shigaraki, you think you’re a hassle?

Beside that though, he actually likes you

You’re humor matches his, and he gets not wanting to appear weak in front of others

Once you two grow close enough, he’ll subtly check up on you when your sad, keep note of what your favorite food or drink is, and especially your eye color

The little things, you know? <3

Shigaraki

Exact opposite of Dabi

Has a temper tantrum the first time you talk back

Yes, he did infact try to obliterate you

He failed, and then he cried

After that little outburst he calms down

He still doesn’t like you

And yet there’s still that odd lingering tension in the air?…

Uraraka

Similar to Izuku, she thinks you hate her

Rather than cowering like Izuku does, though, she confronts you about it

Once everything is cleared up, she’ll talk to you in passing the halls

At some point she’ll start inviting you to the mall

And no she doesn’t care what gender you are, you’re being glamorized, and yes, Mina is going to be joining in on it

Overall a very fun person to hang out with, and a now close friend (maybe more???)

Denki

Poor boy can’t take an insult at all

He’ll act like it’s whatever and then pout about it in his room

Why we’re you so damn mean? Did you just not wanna be friends?

Well now he’s determined to be friends with you

Gifts, outings, compliments, you name it

Once you actually tell him you consider him a friend, he’s so excited

Will not stop smiling the rest of the day, and can’t get rid of that weird flutter in his stomach

Kirishima

He’s used to Bakugo being like this, so he’s used to you being like this

If you choose to insult him, he’s learned how to filter real vs fake insults, so he’ll laugh it off, and continue talking with you

He doesn’t mind carrying the conversation, as long as you’re not bored, he’ll rant his little heart out

He’ll happily spar with you to relieve some stress if you ask

He’ll also give sparring tips while sparring with you/ if you ask

Would absolutely love a gym buddy to hang with <3

Jirou

Meh.

She just doesn’t really care for you at first

She’ll talk to you if necessary and laugh at your sarcastic jokes, but other than that she doesn’t really socialize with you much

Until she realizes you and her like the same band that it feels like no one knows

Will talk about music for hours

Eventually she’ll grow close to you, and you guys become good friends

Maybe if you ask she’ll even teach you guitar

Unfortunately, I’ll have to do a part 2, but that will be out in only a matter of time! Stay tuned!

Sorry to press the topic further with you here, but I just want to thank you for acknowledging the disproportionate amount of hate that Alya gets. I really don't like it when people say that "all characters have done things to criticize them for" because frankly that ignores the actual racism that has come from this fandom and the amount of hate that Alya gets.

Also, this is kind of unrelated, but Adrien gets second place in the hate campaign competition. Calling him all kinds of fun names which I really don't want to get into rn. I cannot understand when people say that Marinette or Chloe get the same amount of hate as these two characters. I know that they get hate, but my fandom experience has been overwhelmingly negative when it comes to Alya and Adrien specifically. And it's even a little funny to me because I know racism is a huge factor in Alya hate, but I don't understand why the white boy gets so much hate too.

Sorry for the long ask, it's just that they're my favorite characters and I wanted an excuse to vent.

Oh, AGREED. I've been really, REALLY upset with the bashing for a very long time. I don't like any characters being demonized disproportionately, but Alya definitely gets it the worst.

I think Adrien was actually the most unfairly demonized character in ML in 2019. Alya has taken that dubious crown in every year since then, but in 2019, Adrien had it worst. Mostly because people would act like you were a bad person if you even talked about liking Adrien without simultaneously apologizing for his flaws. It really sucked and the Lovesquare side of the fanbase decide they were sick of it pretty much after Chat Blanc aired.

Chat Noir obviously gets some hate because he's a little pushy in the first three seasons (though not as badly as his haters make him out to be), but notably he makes efforts to tamp it down after that, and Marinette is arguably even more dubious with how she acts while she has a crush. Some of him being demonized is just standard "Die For Our Ship", with trying to free Marinette up for some other Love Interest.

The rest of the demonization Adrien gets though... well, you're right, I don't think it's based on racism for him, obviously. A lot of it seems to stem from people getting mad that he tries for conciliatory solutions to problems rather than aggressive ones (trying to talk Chloe into being a nicer person, telling Lila that she doesn't need to lie to make friends, stuff like that), and not liking that he tries to understand people and be sympathetic towards them. He also gets called spineless a lot by his salters, which I think goes back to one of the biases against him: he acts like an abuse victim at times, with wanting to excuse even mistreatment towards himself (though noticeably if he sees clearly purposeful, malicious conduct towards his loved ones, he puts his foot down). The animosity towards him decreased some when Chat Blanc reminded people that Adrien is, in fact, an abuse victim. Adrien tends to fawn a lot.

It doesn't matter how detailed your spreadsheet is. We will never know all the times any of them spend together -- and we shouldn't. So picking the ones we know, or think we know, and saying that's 1) comprehensive or 2) that we know the significance is dumb.

People are allowed to have friends. I will never understand this argument that in order for one ship to be true, the other dynamics must be negative. There are several reasons why these are the two top ships, but one is that there is a genuine closeness. Jk and JM stayed up and played video games. Ok. So? If either was dating a woman, would this late night game sesh make you question it? It's weird. It also ignores a prominent third dynamic (which I think should get more shine): vmin - who are clearly close and love each other and have done for over a decade. JM is one of both of their best friends. Spending time with him isn't a gotcha. There is no villain here (unless it's BH/BPD, then cool, I'm fine with that).

But ok, if birthdays are your thing...none of them have said it's actually their thing. In fact, hasn't it been said that JM is the only one who is really into birthdays? JM and Hobi are regularly the only ones doing postings for everyone. The rest are pretty inconsistent. Tae who has said him and his siblings don't even recognize each other's birthdays. The same way people hype that video of JK wishing JM happy birthday -- would make sense if your close friend really prioritizes birthdays. This sounds more like a difference of personal preference.

And of course there is just the blinding inconsistency. They are closeted and need to hide their love; no they are filming their honeymoon! They are hanging out (from what we, the anonymous strangers of the internet know) and that is the measure of romance; nope, psych, they are tooo busy and it's actually kinda suspicious if you hang out publicly like that, clearly bro behavior. You can't only point at a specific period of time (that time being the present) to prove a relationship; see, it all comes down to a few nights in 2018.

You've got 8 weeks of content coming up (and merch!). Half your ship as an album coming out. Just put the spreadsheet away and relax.

I don't want to seem superior but I feel like if we had 8 weeks of Taekook coming, we'd be having so much fun with it. Remember when Friends came out, and Inkigayo and type 1 and all these things this year... Maybe it's because I'm not hugely on twitter but we seemed to have so much fun with theorising and joking about and whatnot. But even if that's just my inaccurate reading of events, I know personally that my first thought upon getting a TKK moment isn't to go find the nearest JKKr and throw it at them. I tend to want to seek out other TKKrs to be silly and happy about it with. That's why I started a tumblr! I wanted to share my excitement.

So I don't know why 8 weeks of the travel show they've been talking about since Suchwita has brought out such bitterness when they call it a win (But then to be honest I never saw a jikooker talk about it with excitement, only in the context of how it was a victory over tkkrs or hypersexualised)

I wish they would just have fun with it and enjoy it. At this point, I genuinely feel like there are TKKrs more excited to see JK&JM interacting than the JKKrs are?!

Is it just me or are some of the more intense Imaudna folk…kind of mirroring Imogen’s over-defensiveness of Liliana? Or at least uncritically accepting Imogen’s assessment of her, without acknowledging her “bias”? (as we are now apparently calling the characters’ family - so K-pop of us)

I’m not saying she’s a terrible mother - she’s literary moving heaven and earth for Imogen [and herself] - but she’s helping bring about what could be an apocalyptic event, on the off-chance that it could relieve them of their powers.

And I get why people wanna ignore that in favor of Imogen reuniting with her Mom and building a relationship with her. But it’s frustrating when you remember that some of the people her Mom has fucked over include Kiki and the Ashari (not just Orym) and that she’s working with a guy that allowed Trent’s abuse of Caleb, who Beau has spent years working to take down, and we still don’t know what’s happened to those two.

Again - shades of gray, and we all love villains and complicated, messy women. But it’s quite the slice of cognitive dissonance to see fandom *really* pile on Fearne’s parents for abandoning her (especially when it was only six years as far as they knew), but even after she’s party to nearly murdering Kiki, we shouldn’t be assuming the worst of Liliana?

(Just read this back and…I don’t think some these Imaudna fans are actually Marisha fans)

I don't think it's mirroring Imogen, per se. Or rather, I think this is all part of the larger trend I've touched upon for some time: there are a segment of shippers with absolutely no empathy for or generosity towards anything that interferes with the ship. Ideally, they'd like to also support Imogen and Laudna as individuals; but even then the ship comes before the characters. As you said, they're not really Marisha - or Laudna - or for that matter Imogen or Laura fans. They're fans of them playing characters who are in a relationship together.

When Imogen was upset with Laudna for breaking the gnarlrock, there was a pretty prevalent attitude of "but it wasn't LAUDNA's fault, so why is Imogen upset, that's unfair" even though the rock is still broken and it happened when it was in Laudna's possession and, frankly, had Imogen not given the rock to Laudna, she'd still have it. In retrospect this has gotten even more wild, because since then, they've leaned very far into the negative effects Imogen experiences as a result of her powers as an argument as to why she's allowed to do whatever she wants, but at the time if you pointed out Imogen found relief from the rock and is justified in having an emotional response, you were met with screams of HOW DARE YOU BE MEAN TO LAUDNA. This hypocrisy is of course tied into the lack of empathy, because said lack of empathy rests on granting infinite grace to those who support or even merely recognize the ship, no matter their other actions (eg: Otohan), and dismissing the feelings of anyone else.

When Laudna died, it was a pretty common attitude among Imogen and Laudna shippers (I would say Laudna fans, but quite honestly almost every post grieving her was just as much about the ship as the character) that Orym would have been happy to have remained dead because he was a widower. This is a horrifying mentality to have - people's partners do die young, and most people choose to continue living - and was also notably untrue based on Liam's statements both in and out of game. You'll notice that "Orym doesn't want to die and felt like this was a massive failure" on 4SD never took off, but "Orym can't be objective" on 4SD has been blown to ludicrous proportions that show a stunning lack of understanding of like...basic human emotions and their role in decision-making. Because there's no consistency except The Ship.

When the party went to Whitestone, and Percy was in fact played as someone with very complicated and layered feelings about death and dying, and who was not going to change his developed principles for a stranger, he was lambasted. The fact that Delilah Briarwood is just as responsible for his trauma - repeatedly so, she was the architect of both his family's murder and the reason why Vecna achieved godhood, she's literally why his brother-in-law is dead, the Briarwoods have been responsible for two of Vex's deaths - was completely ignored. The fact that Vex and Pike were not spiting him in the end, but rather developed a mutually acceptable plan that permitted Laudna's resurrection with a contingency plan to kill her if Delilah returned led to some pretty harsh criticism of them as well.

FCG was pretty popular among the shippers for quite some time because he wanted everyone to get along and wanted Imogen and Laudna to make up after the gnarlrock fight (note: this is also true of Ashton and Orym, both of whom as discussed have since fallen from grace because they continued to exist as characters with their own thoughts and motivation) and had a lot in common with Imogen. However, a series of things occurred that led to their fall from grace among the shippers. The first was that FCG's coin is why Orym was resurrected instead of Laudna. The second is that Shared Dream was not, in fact, intended only to let Laudna go into Imogen's dreams, but rather allowed anyone in the party to go. The third is that FCG started to find a purpose beyond "help others no matter what," particularly after realizing they had a soul and were in fact a person, and specifically began exploring religion. Religion is unpopular with Imodna shippers particularly after 3x49 and Imogen's consideration of the Vanguard, but there's also definitely a mix of obvious ex-fundamentalists who never unpacked their feelings and instead just want all their fiction to validate their new beliefs. The fourth is that FCG/FRIDA "stole" the first canon relationship spot (which also confirmed that FCG was, in fact, shippable rather than some kind of robot eunuch with nothing better to do than push Imogen and Laudna together). And so you get some really fucked statements. Like, when I say I've seen "I hope someone makes that robot eat their stupid coin" that's not exaggeration; it's pretty much verbatim. That's not a post that a person who makes any attempt to understand experiences other than their own can make in earnest, but it does make sense from the perspective of someone who has decided Imogen and Laudna's relationship is the heart of the show and is angered that five other main PCs exist and have their own interests.

Ashton occupies a truly fascinating space, in that they're oddly popular, in part because their scenes with Laudna are genuinely unmissably fantastic scenes for Laudna. It's one of the only places where Laudna takes off the mask (though she's started to with Orym too). He also overlaps with a lot of what makes Imogen popular, except it's canon where Imogen's is subtext, or it's obviously more severe (Imogen's mom left? Ashton's an orphan. Imogen's had a few headaches? Ashton has chronic pain). So they hated when he pointed out he'd been abandoned by his friends in a way Laudna hadn't (also because Ashton and Laudna's conversation in 3x49 was just far more honest than Imogen and Laudna's, and because Laudna sought them out), but they like him when he's supportive of Laudna. They're constantly on the thinnest of ice because of this and because they're a genuinely compelling character, but because of that, might get in the way of what said shippers want, namely, a hundred episodes of Imogen and Laudna sipping tea at Zhudanna's and having a lovely time.

Following Imogen considering joining the Vanguard, Orym fell out of vogue despite his previous interactions with Imogen, because he very justifiably pointed out, as I've said, that the Ruby Vanguard killed his husband and his father-in-law (whom he saw as a father figure himself), and used a toxin that ensured they couldn't be brought back. I've talked about this a ton and so I'm not going to rehash every aspect, but the fact remains that while I like Imogen's choice to do this - conflict is fun! It makes sense for her character! - it's an incredibly insensitive thing to say. (It blows Ashton's statement about loneliness out of the water, for sure; incidentally, Ashton pointing out the more general hey girl they murder everyone who disagrees did NOT sit well with the hey let's harass everyone who disagrees crowd.) And when you mix it in with the god stuff discussed regarding FCG, Orym has become the periannath non grata of choice to the point of a similar response to the gnarlrock fight - if you sympathize with him, they see it as an attack not just on Imogen but on Laudna, for...not talking about Laudna as well. This has only gotten worse with Orym firmly committing to destroying the Vanguard, to the point that there are, generously speaking, misunderstandings or misrememberings of the text, and less generously speaking, outright lies. A notable one is that Laudna begins to tap into Delilah before Orym nods (Marisha's mention of the purplish hue is at 2:52:02 in episode 3x63; Orym's nod is at 3:01:42, a solid 9+ minutes later); he supports her decision, but he is not responsible for it.

Then there's the guests. Deanna was obviously made to ask Imogen about Laudna. She's here to ask them if they're married. She's here to encourage Imogen to follow her heart. She's definitely not here to have her own active and interesting love life and personal feelings about the gods (that conflict with Imogen's) and history and perspective. Oh she's...she's calling out Imogen's nonstop use of psychic powers? She's having a three-way with Chetney and Fearne? FRIDA is hooking up with FCG and admitted their anger about the gods was mostly due to projecting their personal anger about feeling powerless and having been awoken without their consent? Uhhhhhh Deni$e was obviously made to to ask Laudna about Imogen. She's definitely not here to be a connection to Dariax and have her own active and interesting love life and personal feelings about the gods. Wait, no, maybe Bor'Dor will ask about it? Uhhhhhh *flips coin but not in an FCG way* Laudna will *rolls dice* mentor Prism and this will...make this ship happen? Oh, won't these people with their own distinct personalities and motivations who keep having conversations with Orym and Ashton and each other stop doing that and just presume that a specific one of the four other people in Bells Hells they've never met and probably don't remember the names of is married to Laudna? Won't someone stop playing their character as a fully fleshed out person whose life is entirely unaffected by Laudna and Imogen's respective love lives? Oh and then Bor'Dor did ask about the relationship, and it was because it was a weakness and he was trying to infiltrate.

Quite literally? It goes as far as the gods! Why didn't they save Laudna? To which I'd say sure, let's explore what happens if they did! Let's follow this thread! Do they just save Laudna and maybe her family and no one else? Why Laudna? Does she get saved at the expense of some other dark-haired girl in Whitestone? Or perhaps they save everyone. Perhaps the De Rolos remain in power, and Campaign 1 doesn't fucking happen I guess, and Laudna grows up, and she lives out the rest of her life in Whitestone, and she's a woman in her 50s now - maybe even married, perhaps with children - and has never been to Marquet and wouldn't know or care about some random 20-something with purple hair. Like, what are you driving at here? Maybe the gods let Laudna die because that was the only way to bring her to Imogen. Ever think of that? (alternately: how do you know they didn't? What if Laudna's undead state has to do with Vecna? You didn't specify if it was the Primes or the Betrayers, or how she gets saved; she's still living after a hanging, which some might consider a miraculous gift. What if it was the Dawnfather acting through the Sun Tree? Can you describe what you want the gods to have done and where that puts us in 843 PD or do you just say shit hoping no one will ever poke at it?) When do the gods intervene? Do they make sure nothing bad ever happens to anyone? Are mortals just dolls the gods move around with no free will?

So anyway. I don't think these feelings about Liliana are based on mirroring Imogen's thought process. I do not think there is a level of consideration that Imogen and Laudna have motivations (motivations mean they can be something other than perfect flawless victims who found each other). It is simply "Imogen wants this, Laudna will validate anything she does, and so it's correct." The party line for anything else "fuck your trauma, fuck your dead family and dead loves, fuck your own hopes and dreams and goals: you exist only to fawn over two random-ass women. It doesn't matter if they are strangers to you. It doesn't matter if you've only met one of them. It doesn't matter how they act towards you. It doesn't matter if you're one of them, if you step out of line. This is your sole purpose, and if you fail, you're not a person to me." There's absolutely no thought put into the implications of anything they say beyond "it supports the ship, or, if not, it perpetuates the blameless, perfect and thus boring frozen state of the characters."

working on indescribable made me realize that priya and chase are both intense, however (as i wrote in indescribable without even realizing) they're two opposing extremes. although i didn't mean it like that when i wrote it, i ended up thinking abt it randomly. they're both extremes, they've both got intensity coiled in them, yes, but they use it for opposite purposes--hence a different take on 'opposing extremes'

so let me go on a tangent here (and fyi these are just my opinions based on their canon personalities)

(edit: heads up, my rambly self got me losing the script of what i was getting at pretty quick here 😭)

caleb's type, to me, is just ppl who are overly intense abt one thing or another and make it most if not all of their entire personality. moreover given how patiently he was ready to handle the mess that was his and priya's will-they-wont-they situation in canon, i can def see him buckling up, locking down, determined, and ready to figure chase out once he's sure the friendship/relationship is worth it like he did with priya. caleb seems, to me, the kind of guy to want to push away from the stereotypical label his physique gives him, he wants to be his own person set apart from just his appearance, which is why he embraces intensity in lovers; he wants someone who can write all over his blank slate and help him do it for himself too. i think that's why other than prileb, chaleb is, so far, the only other caleb ship that interests me; it's the contrasting similarities between both priya and chase. and it'd prob throw chase's feelings in for a loop too considering caleb's personality compared to how he's used to with emma

bc caleb and emma are both the type of ppl to give second chances, to fall hard when they do fall for someone, to be blinded (at first) by their lovers' flaws bc they care sm. they're both kind, adore animals, etc. yet the way they hold themselves is different, the aura they exude is different, the vibe of them chase is used to are different too. with emma it's more heated, with caleb...i can picture it as more mellow? even when they're arguing, it'd feel more grounded and real. and the thing is, chase is the kind of guy to live a fast-paced life so obv he isn't used to the concept of patience. emma only makes that worse (not her fault, obv, sometimes personalities clash and ofc chase was a dumbass asswipe), she has a more fiery personality that festers his own, their relationship was passionate, fiery too, constantly in that honeymoon phase, but their fights were just as quick and fiery. but while emma hates that, chase thrives on it in an unhealthy way. caleb's different, he's like the earth, he's patient and down-to-earth; despite him and emma being similar in some ways, they're different in the ways that count too, so their interactions with chase would be different as well. and tbh caleb's patience would help chase slow down at least a little, get him to better understand limits. chase's type tends to be ppl who shows him attention and reassurance (this can be seen in neg and pos connotations, looking at the chemma dynamic which was chase chasing (pun intended) after emma's attention and constantly reassuring himself in the confessional saying "she totally loves me" etc), he thinks it's also someone who is as intense as he is, but that'd be terrible for everyone all around including himself, and it takes him a while to realize it's actually the opposite. probs why the two chase ships that interest me more than the rest are chazee and chaleb

contrasting that with emma, to me her type is intensity too, who keeps her on her toes but not someone so intense that they are unapologetic abt how the line blurs between that intensity and actual emotions/reality, someone who doesn't chase that intensity all the time, who is understanding of having time for other things. this is interesting to me simply bc i have three main ships for emma and those are priyemma, emwayne, and axemma--and all three involve the other person as intense in some way (axel with her apolocaypse training, priya with her total drama craze, wayne with hockey and fairness) and i can def see some intensity chasing and that line blurring to some degree but i feel like it'd be easier for either they to rein themselves in or emma to help get them to see reason and in the end they would be apologetic to some degree. heck even bowie, her best friend, is intense as well. like attracts like with emma, but she doesn't need another chase, she wants someone intense and who likes living on the wild side a little, yeah, but someone who is also there for her emotions, who sees the world too

You have been really patient with certain asks you get. At some point if people want to be negative they can stop interacting with your posts. It makes me think it is people who want you to confirm that bkdk is done and the ship is destroyed or something. Even on twitter people are realizing that they may have been a bit too dramatic with 431 which btw was very much the leakers’ faults. Izu//ocha’s big moment in 429 was him comforting a friend which was then interrupted by the rest of the class. Whether people like it or not, bkdk was still the most developed even with Horikoshi holding back with them. I also noticed people coming really hard for Horikoshi and saying he is going to do a sequel titled ‘Beku.’ This isn’t anything that has even been implied yet. People need to realize they projected a lot of negativity into this chapter esp about bkdk bc where does it say Izuku doesn’t want to compete or that Izuku is leaving Katsuki for Ochako?

I try to! tho I am really impatient. Usually if I answer a hateful ask is to make a joke about it (like in this one), or to tell them to go away, but many times when I doubt how actually hateful towards my content it is, even if its negative, I'll try to explain myself or answer their points -and ask them to go away if they just dont like it and dont want to see it.

I was really dramatic about 431 as it made lose care for BNHA -as I dont watch nor have interest in just shonen content made to teach boys how to be hetero men, or just shonen in general at this point of my life, I just care more about the Josei and horror; it broke my heart to see them become complete strangers-, I felt betrayed and like I was never meant to read this in the first place, but it didnt help how at the time leakers spread literal false summaries (+their emphasis on wanting to stir drama and go against queer shippers, claiming this focuses solely on them becoming an actual couple + deku "beating all allegations" + katsuki and tsuyu giving love advice), and many people went wild with it, claiming the only right way to see this manga is from a cis heterosexual lense, that they were always the target audience, the ones who this manga was for. It felt so, so wrong, to love for almost half of my current life something that was said to despise so many people, including me.

The leakers are responsible for spreading false information time to time again, and disrespected the manga and everyone involved just to give us messy badly written summaries and bad translations, and I didnt understand it until it was too late.

There are many reasons to hold back on bkdk outside of "not liking it" (they are one of the most developed relationships in the whole manga, and the feelings they have for each other are clear as we have not only actions but highlighted, spelled out, confirmations of what their status is -they are the closest person to each other-, many fans of BNHA dont like katsuki so focus on him for the end of the manga to say once again how they are the closest to one another could get annoying, as we spent years with that going on), so I dont think we should jump into conclusions just bc of 431, which is pretty tame and vague to be a confirmation of a ship. We cant just believe "Beku" is a thing he is thinking about when he made these characters just start talking again after years of barely contact.

However, about the two last points, I would argue its bc this is the last content we get in a BNHA manga, so it feels like the end. If this was considered the actual ending, it would imply katsuki and deku dont compete anymore bc of the inclusion of Izuku not wanting to "play" into that dynamic when Katsuki says he was the fastest + katsuki being "left behind" before he meets Ochako, but... theres an interesting way to see this, I believe.

I talked before about Katsuki's offering being more about Izuku than about himself -a test to see if Izuku will answer with passion, a comeback about him being able to surpass him like before. From this perspective, Katsuki is worried about Izuku not taking himself into account, letting go of (or unable to express) his ambitious spirit and not understanding how he affects others in the process, how he ends up not seeing how others can want to be with him and see him as special (and want to be special to him themselves); this means that small frame of Katsuki trying to play into being competitive with him, and him answering with honesty (Iida was the fastest), means Izuku is completely clueless of what Katsuki is trying to do, bc he doesnt even think about himself in the first place.

And him "leaving katsuki for her" just makes things gayer tbh, specially bc he didnt choose to follow her or something like that -Katsuki just told him he couldn't give him a drive home, and when he saw her in the street he just told her what he literally thought -he loves everyone, but he wants to talk to her more from now on; it sounds romantic to some, but bc of his reaction and attitude it doesnt come off as him confessing nor realizing later he did so, but him being honest and being clueless. He blushes and gets embarrassed only after she fell over him for "no reason", so it doesnt really give the impression of him revealing hidden romantic love for her and getting shy about it.

Denki Kaminari ~ Hot Hot Hot!!! OR Let's Go To Bed by The Cure (Only reason why I give him two songs is because Hot Hot Hot sort of sounds like him singing bad on purpose imo)

Eijirou Kirishima ~ Bite My Hip by Bauhaus (Is it really a goth song assignment if Bauhaus isn't mentioned? Anyways, Kirishima gets this song because it fits his sort of nasally dub voice if you get what I mean?? Not to mention his shark teeth lol)

Katsuki Bakugou ~ Be My Death Cult by Calabrese (Totally didn't pick this one because of how much Bakugou screams 'DIE!')

Tooru Hagakure ~ Rose Blood by Mazzy Star (Hagakure is so high-pitched that it's so hard to find a song, but I think it matches her voice?)

Koji Koda ~ Mascara by Deftones (Koda barely speaks and so I legit just went with the softest sounding one I knew But at the same it's Deftones so...)

Tsuyu Asui ~ Step On Me by The Cardigans (I know Asui's voice is a bit lower-ish but I think it sort of matches her nasally voice)

Doing this sorta made me want to write a My Goth Academia fic, haha! I know some of the bands are actually considered alt, but please just let me be delulu.

What actually started this is that I've seen enough 'My Immortal' stuff floating around that it inspired me to put my goth knowledge to the test! Again, feel free the use this as inspiration, but please tag me or send the link 'cause I would be totally stoked to read it! If you want me to to this but in another genre and make it a series, just send an ask and I can do almost every genre except for certain sub-genre's of metal and country music.

It feels unbalanced. But for the members, this is probably completely different. They have seen each other every day for hours at a time. They know what the real balance is like. So they don't judge situations the same as we do." Thank you! This is such an important point that a lot of people miss and I think fuels a lot of negative feelings people have. We as outsiders hyper focus on the ships and certain interactions, but that's such a small part of their lives. That anon making everything Jungkook does about how the fans see their relationships and by extension him being a bad boyfriend/friend because of it...I don't know if you have seen all maknae line solo stan communities but they all hate each other and project that hatred onto their faves as well, as in saying their fave actually hates the other members. Tae stans are dragging Jungkook constantly and using him as a punching bag during Tae's debut, there are definitely Jungkook and Jimin stans who think Tae feeds antis as well. It's all just bs fandom infighting and very little of it has to do with who they actually are and what their lives and relationships are like. And the fans take some of this stuff so seriously, spewing the most vile hatred and making threats against them for perceived injustices to the others through what are completely innocent and largely meaningless actions, and some turn their anger at the fans' behavior into anger at the members. It's a pretty messed up situation, and I don't know how I would navigate friend/relationships under that kind of scrutiny.

Also, thank you for actually mentioning one of my favorite Taekook moments and my number one moment if we're talking the kind that defy platonic explanation. The nape kiss at Citi Field gets largely overlooked and I'm not sure why, but one of the reasons it's so special to me is I was at that concert. It gives me some added context I think, because I can tell you that was not for the audience. I was in the stands and watching on the big screen monitors and all we saw was Tae and Jimin (and I have a theory that Jimin knew what Tae was planning) approaching Jungkook from behind, and then Jungkook looking kind of flustered and I was like "...what just happened?" 😂 It wasn't until I was back at my airbnb and talking to another friend who had been there when the first clips from the side of the stage started showing up on Twitter and we were going insane. They released a DVD/Bluray of that show, and you can confirm on there that the official cams did not catch that kiss and in fact you can see Tae watching the monitor and cameras as he approaches to make sure what he did cannot be seen. There's a very specific reason I think Tae did that, but I won't discuss it openly yet. Maybe someday. For me, that's the moment after two years of being a Taekooker where it went from 99% to a 100% for me that the relationship between those two is more than just friendship. The Bon Voyage season 1 cuddles/kisses still blows my mind as well. That really kicked off the Taekook drought in official content. That was the last year we saw just the two of them in a V Live together, and there not another one for four whole years and we all know they had chaperones in the room the next time. I've been thinking recently that if I was to make a Taekook top ten right now, those two moments and probably the "I love you" signs during the Chile concert where Jungkook was sick would be there...but the rest would probably be solo era/2023 because this past year has been full of hugely significant moments and I did not expect it. But looking back, it makes sense that in solo era, it is Taekook's bond that became more apparent than ever. Because they are involved in each other's lives in a very significant way that goes beyond members of the same band, or even friends.

I think they have a very complicated relationship with their fans in general, and with shippers especially. I don’t think they appreciate any shipping mentions in their lives for instance, not even the correct ones. It must be weird having people comment on your relationship and asking questions trying to bait you into giving a hint while you’re just there to talk about your music.

I really dislike what this has done amongst maknae line solo’s. It is also so weird to me to actually see fans talk about members hating each other. Hate is such a strong word, and is in general not actually a feeling people very often have about each other. So for fans to think any member actually hates another while there have been no signs of that is so out there.

Kenjaku hurt women and children in the most twisted way yet he deserves to live? Don't worry about ranting at all! I understand how you feel completely.

When I was first getting into the JJK fandom, it was mostly because of Sukuna edits. I liked his character from the very start, even though people were really quick to call Sukuna fans (especially the Sukuita shipping ones) delusional or toxic. And a lot of Gojo fans would overrun the comment sections, saying that Gojo is better than Sukuna in every way.

When I watched videos analyzing Sukuna's character, for example, a lot of the responses to the videos would be something along the lines of "Sukuna is straight-up pure evil and can't be seen as any other way." And after Gojo's death, so many people were showing Sukuna hate more than ever.

What I find bothering about this, though, isn't that most of the JJK fandom likes Gojo way more than any other character - what I truly dislike is how disrespectful and contradicting some of those Gojo fans can be. I have read so many posts made by them that insult Gege, mock Sukuna fans, and insist that the only way for JJK to "redeem" itself is for Gojo to come back.

While I try to have a healthy respect for everyone in a fandom, I don't like when certain fans go out of their way to be toxic, rude, or forceful with their opinions. Especially when they don't seem to have such a good grasp on a lot of the reasons why Gojo isn't that great - not morally and not as an overall character.

Fans often neglect that Gojo is mean to others, selfish, arrogant, self-righteous, disrespectful to all kinds of people, too immature at times, and willing to disregard the value of other people's lives, including his own students. He has put Yuuji and the others in danger so many times, without any real good reason why, and he shows off more than he does teach.

I don't mean to disrespect his character at all, but these are his actual canon traits. Even if the fans like to headcanon him differently (which I respect) they can't use those arguments when comparing him to Sukuna, who they always characterize as selfish, arrogant, disrespectful, and dismissive of the value of other people's lives.... sound familiar?

Sukuna and Gojo share a lot of these negative traits in common. Both of them are obsessed with their own strength and so easily disvalue others for not beings as powerful. Yes, Sukuna is by far the most murderous and stereotypically evil of the two, and I would describe most of his actions as heartless and cruel, but Gojo's own bad traits can't simply be dismissed just because those fans like him better and because he's fighting on the side of "good."

He's been described as an antihero for a reason, and that's because he's self-absorbed and doesn't really care for anyone but himself. He wants to take down the higher-ups of the Jujutsu world, but doesn't really acknowledge how he himself being born to such intense power is also a curse of that system. He is part of the problem, both with his actions and ideals, and fans don't want to acknowledge it.

I think they're scared that by admitting his faults he automatically becomes a character you have no right to like anymore, just like how Sukuna antis say because of Sukuna's evil actions he doesn't deserve to be empathized with or liked. This inaccurate line of thinking comes mostly from the large anti culture that's been taking over tumblr and pretty much everywhere else now.

I would also like to point out that so many fans are really angry about Gojo dying, but his death actually makes sense in the story and he himself looked quite at peace with it. Bringing him back doesn't really make any sense.

I like Gojo. Even if I don't find his character unique, I still think he serves a purpose in the story and I like what Gege has done with him. Him losing to Sukuna was meant to happen. For me, the end battle should be between Sukuna and Yuuji, because Yuuji alone has the strongest connection with the King of Curses and this whole story started with him swallowing that cursed finger. Gojo really shouldn't have anything to do with this.

But these are just my thoughts. People are more than free to disagree with me, that's what being in a fandom means, but they should show respect about this and not act so overwhelmingly toxic to others who think differently. That's my only problem with them.

Ok tackling those WoL questions I reblogged the other day! I'm just gonna do one section a day for one wol at a time, starting with Entlona naturally. Probably gonna do Aggi next, then Chiaki, then we'll see! If anyone has any, like, requests for specific WoLs though let me know

I. Where is your Warrior of Light from? What was their home like growing up and what set them out on their journey?

Entlona was born on a pirate ship, which is perhaps the most Limsan thing in existence. She grew up working as a cabin boy on various ships, taking on more and more tasks as she grew older because her father, consumed by depression, was doing less and less. When they came into port in Limsa she spent time with her best friend, X’mikana, and Mikana’s mother X’kali. Although many people, such as X’kali and the crews they worked with, didn’t like the situation, Entlona refused to hear anything negative about her father, and the colder he got the harder she worked to win his affection. When Entlona was about 15 years old, her father walked off the ship at a port and never returned- when the rest of the crew finally managed to get her back to Limsa, she found that X’kali, who had long been ill, had died very suddenly. Shortly after, The Calamity struck, and in the chaos Entlona was wounded badly and though X’mikana had died. She was saved by the captain of a crew she had worked with many times, and though she recovered in body, she was overcome with a depression that had many worried she was going to go the way of her father. For five years she worked mechanically, all light behind her eyes dimmed- if asked, she would simply say she needed to repay her debt to the crew for saving her. After years of this the captain got fed up and, because pirates are not the most emotionally mature people, kicked her out, refusing to let her back on the ship. Unsure what to do, Entlona ended up wandering around Limsa until she found herself at the Arcanist’s Guild. As a kid, she had been fascinated by Arcanima- perhaps some glimmer of that remained, because she walked in and requested membership. She was planning to become a tariff officer, but when she found out Mikana was alive and planning to become an adventurer, her path was sealed- she was never leaving the other girl’s side again.

2. What city-state did your WoL start in? How did they feel about it then, and how do they feel about it now? (ie, did their experiences sour their perception, or make them appreciate it more?)

Entlona has always had a love-hate relationship with Limsa that was heavy on hate. Growing up surrounded by pirates has left her pretty tired of their bullshit, and one of the two easiest ways to actually set the usually taciturn Entlona off is to insinuate she is acting particularly pirate-ish. Since she is also a Giant Nerd she has long had Opinions on Limsa’s actions towards the kobalds, and part of the reason Y’shtola so easily won her respect is that she was willing to call Merlwyb out right to her face.That being said, she hates the rest of the city states more than Limsa, and definitely has an “it’s a garbage dump but it’s MY garbage dump” attitude towards the place. She is grudgingly respectful of the strides Merlwyb has taken to improve the place, and at the end of the day she still got a house in the Mist- she can’t really imagine settling down anywhere else.

3. How do they feel about being Hydaelyn’s chosen? (Feel free to break it down from ARR’s “Champion of Eorzea” all the way to “The Savior of Etheirys” as much as you like. Have those feelings changed, or just grown more complex?)

Technically, Entlona is kinda a secondary wol- X’mikana is the capital W capital L Warrior of Light, and Entlona is her healer/sidekick. Entlona is just fine with this arrangement- she would not like the increased attention that comes with being the flashy one with the axe. She worries about the pressure on Mikana a lot, which is funny because of the two of them Entlona is, at this point, the one with the more terminal case of “doing other people’s chores.” In general she’s not the kind of person to focus a lot on what ifs- this is the situation we’re in, all we can do is make choices and hope they’re the right one. Because of this she doesn’t blame Hydaelyn or the city state leaders or anyone for pushing them into this role- they came here willingly, they took every step along the way willingly, and even if the choices any one of them made weren’t ideal what’s happened has happened and we just have to keep moving on.

4. What do they do in their down time? Do they have any hobbies outside of Primal-slaying and world-saving? Are these lifelong hobbies or recent interests?

Entlona is a prolific crafter and gatherer, the type of person to mention that on her resume before any sort of “saving the world” nonsense. She’s also been a voracious reader since she could read at all, and loves to track down new books. All told, her free time is pretty full, which is good for her since she absolutely hates being idle, which is part of why she will fulfill basically any request that’s asked of her. She just likes having stuff to do.

5. How do they feel now that “it’s all over” (the story of Hydaelyn and Zodiark)? What do they plan to do next? Or is their story finished - and if you’re retiring them, what does retirement look like for them? Do you have someone else taking the stage going forward?

If the Scions had been fully retired, Entlona would have been, at least from the MSQ, mostly because it would be hard for me to picture how Entlona would deal with a whole new cast of characters (she can deal with a few new people at a time, but she is definitely more comfortable around people she's known a while). She would continue being an adventurer, but if her friends weren’t alongside her she would definitely be avoiding any world spotlight stuff (although she would still be down to go to Tural just in general). She’s not exactly reluctant to save the world, but she doesn’t like having a spotlight put on her. I think she does have a sense of there being a grand chapter that is over, and she hopes that from now on they can all just sort of be adventurers- buuuut she knows that she and her friends are all busybodies, and that for the most part they can’t resist getting involved.

6. Who was their Azem? What were they like, and were they different from your WoL? Who were their family, friends? Or, if you don’t care for the Azem angle or went in your own direction for their past self, how so? How does your WoL feel about their Ancient identity?

This is actually one I’ve gone back and forth on? X’mikana is the Azemlet between the two of them, and I’m very wishy washy on the Entlona ancient situation. I’ve kinda toyed with the idea that she didn’t have an ancient at all, and in the calamity some Aether Stuff happened that allowed her to access X’mikana’s echo, buuuut that also might be a bit much.
