My old school pick is FANDOMS:

Because it speaks to me and how Dan and Phil have ruined my life (affectionately). It also reminds me that Dan gets it and deep down he is a fangirl just like all of us. Shout out to its kind of sequel video “Fictional Friends” as well. I wish Dan would do a 2025 update video essay on this topic tbh.

My more recent pick (and this may be controversial) is Louise teaches Dan to be a Daddy:

First of all, my take on Dystopia Daily was - you’re giving me literally any Dan content?? Yes please. I get if some people at the time didn’t like the tone but I will take anything. Dan is an actor and comedian and he was playing the character up (mostly). Also, the people who thought he was “mean” to Louise in this video.. listen she would not be there if she didn’t want to be. He would not post it if she didn’t want him to. They are friends and adults. I’m an old school watcher of the Brit crew and OG YouTube as well, so any collab Dan does I love to see. This video was SO fucking funny. The amount of giggles it gave me!!!

Honorable mentions: Basically I’m Gay (BIG) because I’m an emotional sap, but we just had the anniversary and my pinned post on my page highlights my specific thoughts on that video.

What did/do you like about Pharah?

Uh, gameplay-wise, I really love characters in shooters who rely on three-dimensional movement techs. Chaining together hover and jump to stay in the air for as long as possible and keep momentum is so satisfying, and picking enemies off from the sky made me feel like a bird of prey. I was a good Pharah main.

Story-wise, there unfortunately isn't much to canonically go off because Pharah is so underutilized and neglected. Her personality's pretty boilerplate "heroic hero" (she's literally inspired by Captain America).

But it's the crumbs/bits and pieces that I really latched onto. Pharah's a confirmed lesbian; her short story with Baptiste implies she harbors a crush on Mercy (fucking thank you.). She's biracial Egyptian/First Nations. She has major mommy issues, having grown up both admiring and resenting Ana. She's the bridge between Old Overwatch, inspired by the idealized heroes who surrounded her childhood, and New Overwatch. She's one of the only inter-generational characters in the cast; someone whose experiences span the gap, which is why I seriously believe Pharah would make a great main character.

There isn't much to go off of, though; she's a very uncomplicated character (she's a soldier for a private military corporation, lol.). But that just means she's a blank slate character, so I've seen fanfic writers run wild and create some really interesting takes on her. My favorite interpretation of her's a dense, herbo gym-bro type (a lot of her liens are about work outs, exercising, and playing sports) who's easily excitable under her seemingly self-serious, armored visage. We see how she tends to gloat and hype herself up when she's on a streak too, so Pharah definitely has a competitive and boastful side under her more professional and militant performance.

Now Mercy? Mercy is a real complex character.

Could you explain your position on Shallura? Since Allura was established as a teenager when she started dating Lance and Shiro was very clearly an adult. I can understand the bi shiro headcannon but the shallura thing worries me

i am going to remind yall that i have been in this fandom since 2016. and in the early seasons, allura was not established as a teenager. in fact she was coded as older, as closer to shiro's age -- there was a specific divide between her and the younger paladins that she did not have with shiro. they made her younger (both explicitly and in mannerisms) as the show went on. and i do not give a fuck about voltron like...post s4 and i didn't even watch s7-8. so like. especially with older fics, im going to enjoy shallura.

I talked about st*r of pr*vidence yesterday, and how many swastikas there were in the game. Since then I've gathered some evidence and the more I looked, the more I found. I feel like I have to speak up about this.

these are intentional swastikas. this game is not randomly generated. I understand there is a difference between a nazi swastika and a normal one. for those unaware, the nazi one swirls right on the top, and the normal one swirls left. the first two are unmistakably nazi, but I couldn't ignore the third.

there are also many plausible deniability swastikas in the game, but enough that I can't ignore them either.

This game is not some meta commentary about fascism or anything, either. This makes me genuinely sick, and I hope more people start talking about this.

You know, when I was first researching neurodivergence (and autism and ADHD in particular) and wondering if I was, in fact, neurodivergent, I brought my conclusions to my mom and she said:

"I mean, you're gifted, right? So you already are neurodivergent???"

So here's to her (kinda) and her words. Giftedness is a neurodivergence, in my opinion. From what I've seen, a lot of the traits overlap with common autistic and/or ADHD traits too, especially regarding overexcitabilities, and a lot of researchers talking about the topic describe giftedness with the same kind of "your brain is just made differently" and "you're just wired differently" language as they use for other neurodivergent conditions. But I also say this because I've seen some gifted people who, while struggling with some "autistic/ADHD traits," don't have all the traits necessary for an autism or ADHD diagnosis. Giftedness is a label for them that encompasses the struggles they have without saying that they don't struggle enough or forcing them to try to fit into a mold that isn't them. And I get that; when I was first questioning, I didn't think I had enough autistic traits to count for a diagnosis either, so I took comfort in a "gifted" label. (Not to say that all gifted people are just autistic people and/or people with ADHD that don't realize, or that all gifted people are just people who don't have enough traits for a diagnosis! That was just the case for me and the folks I've been around, but I've also heard the case of it not being that.)

But if I am gifted, then I also have autism. A lot of my struggles are, honestly, just better described by autism than just by a byproduct of giftedness. My struggles with people and with "being too much," my sensory differences (and yes, sometimes issues), my stimming, and some of my executive dysfunction all sound like autistic traits to me more than a mix of psychomotor and sensual overexcitabilities and a whole bunch of coincidental byproducts of my being gifted and hanging out with nongifted peers. Don't get me wrong; based on my family history, background, and traits, I honestly probably am gifted lol. But it's not just that.

So this is me saying that if the people around you are saying that you're just gifted, you're free to look for other, perhaps better explanations for your feelings and experiences. But if you are just gifted, you're still free to call yourself neurodivergent! My gifted traits lead to me feeling just as ostracized sometimes as my autistic ones, so who am I to police that label?

i’m not sure if anyone has an answer as to why the pwhl goalies are really good and the skaters are oftentimes kind of bad but my hypothesis is that a lot of the time if a girl is trying to play hockey and there is only a boys league (or, more commonly, its not explicitly a boys league but is only populated by them) the coaches often put girls in the crease. so theres simply more opportunities for girls to play hockey if they are goalies. case in point manon rhéaume

it's so weird liking HOO these days as someone who was #here as they were coming out. it just feels like people... forgot... how jason and piper were written in the series. i do think piper being the one more conflicted about their relationship is a little more interesting bc she's a daughter of aphrodite- giving her a complicated relationship with her own love life is more interesting than the alternative. but modern day [you know.] shippers will tell you lies about jason's feelings when their conjectures are simply not true. like i think its overtly simplistic to say that j/asiper are written like a lesbian/gay boy ship. it's certainly An interpretation but it simply is not universally true—jason literally dreams of growing old with piper in BOO (which is so fucking devastating). like i'm sorry but he really does genuinely love her.

yeah it kind of leaves a bad taste in my mouth when people do everything in their power to insist that jason never genuinely loved or was even attracted to her because like... not only is that factually untrue (bro spends so much of tlh wanting her secretly and choosing not to show it) but why is it necessary to even do that. I'm just being cynical here but it reeks of The Thing in fandom where people will observe a man's canonical attraction to a woman of color specifically (especially bipoc/biwoc) and then invalidate those feelings (i.e. headcanoning said man as gay instead of bi/pan/unlabeled queer/etc) to knife all potential of that canon love interest in favor of what is deemed the More Valid mlm ship. it's reflective of a long history of woc not being seen as lovable/attractive/as legitimate love interests. sure it's not always rooted in prejudice but man isn't it weird how it happens all the time. like it's the kind of thing you'll see absolutely everywhere in almost every fandom once you start to take notice of it because fandom bloggers only care about men/dynamics involving men and just don't fuck with woc like that because they're extremely bad at practicing intersectionality. it's a trend that's biphobic and racist and misogynistic in one fell swoop! very efficient /j

I see what regard jasiper is held in nowadays and feel like I just occupy a very weird space here lol. things were so different ten years ago. like I do have to blame rick's lackluster hoo-ship writing to some extent because I myself don't really like jasiper (I don't dislike it either I just. don't think they ought to date lol) but I do care about their relationship and everything that happened between them, and I can't help but feel defensive of them because rick did them soooo dirty. like genuinely the way their breakup happened is just some of rick's absolute worst writing (imagine spending 5 books telling your readers that their relationship can be real and true in the end despite the fake memories and then you break them up offscreen over the fake memories. like okay so you just lied then LMAO). rather than recontexualizing hoo-era jasiper in the aftermath of their breakup as an event where neither party ever held romantic feelings for the other (again it's so unnecessary!!! you can ship whatever without denying that jason loved her!) I wish people could just internalize jasiper as a thing that was real and did happen. because it did!!! it did happen!
