since I've seen some unpopular opinions around, today's complain abt the tbosas movie is that I find so damn funny how the producers saw ppl complaining abt the whitewashing in the og thg movies and then said "okay, now we're casting the lightest possible latinos as two of the main trio characters, are you happy now? 🙄"
#plus them ignoring that lgb is so obvsly romani coded but anyway#this is not criticism to the actors just to make clear!!!#I do think both did a great job#but yeah#maybe deleting later#my silly little posts

the imaginary carlos and charles beef that some fans are convinced is going on is giving Netflix DTS trying to convince us that charles and sebastian were mortal enemies that prayed on each other’s downfall nightly
#can’t people be happy or sad for one driver without tearing the other down#ik teammates are often pitted against each other and stuff but like#they’re both having good seasons#they’re both showing off their strengths#charles is still doing well in the WDC and even tho max is likely to win this year charles is still gonna get more chances with ferrari#and carlos is doing a great job in showing other teams why they should give him a seat next season#regardless of whether u think they’re good friends or just coworkers it’s clear they respect each other a lot#and i get being upset that charles didn’t podium in suzuka#but that’s not carlos’ fault and he did everything that he should’ve#charles still has a phenomenal race and his fans shouldn’t insult carlos simply for racing#and similarly carlos’ fans shouldn’t insult charles for not placing higher than carlos#when charles has shown how good and consistent of a driver he is in the past few races#just because the two latest ferrari wins have been carlos’ doesn’t mean charles is suddenly “overhyped” or “washed up”#like chill y’all#focus on the bigger issues#like whatever the fuck is going on williams#charles leclerc#carlos sainz#cl16#cs55#ferrari#formula 1#f1#1655#c squared#2024 japanese gp#as a maybe month old fan i probably shouldn’t be having many opinions about this#but whatever lmfao#they’re both hot why are we pitting them against each other#they hate when two sexy bitches are winning

i think tim minear got the show back to where he wanted it to be to tell the story he wanted to tell. ppl think too deeply on it. truly.
#911 abc#bucktommy#like ppl talking abt the natalia retconning like#that was kristins doing#idk how ppl are like omg bvdd!3 moments from s5-6 when kristen apparently hated the ship and she was just shoving both of them with randos#tim minear retconning natalia was the best decision for bucks character#and getting eddie outta that bs relationship with marisol was also for the best#now he can focus on what he wants to write#s7 wasnt fantastic ofc but i think it did its job and has some really great moments#aka madney wedding and bi buck being two of the biggest things to come out of the season#not to mention gerrard coming back is probably smth tim has been wanting to do and is now being able to do it!!!

#Am i evil for wanting to sacrifice pa kent sometimes#love him hes great hes done his job with clark#but i always toyed with the idea of clark getting grief for development later in life#i dont think any of his adoptive parents should die well into him being an established superman#but what i do think is one of his parents dying would do him a service in his later years character wise#pa kent is generally agreed upon to be the most sacrificial ( sorry pa kent.. )#a time in clarks life where his father is gone and he just has his mother to look after seems like it would be#a refreshing pov for him to remember what he has left in this world...#there are all sorts of iterations btw. some where both parents die at the same time from tragedy (car crash)#or where one dies#i personally love superman: braniac where clark fails to save his father as a young superman#which shows him..not even a superman can save everyone - a rude awakening. so its just him and his mother.#while i do think of making the braniac origin my canon definitively i also love the pa kent interactions w clarks league friends#like that one time batman visited and they chatted was nice ( standing )#we will see! will probably sacrifice pa kent i mean if a comic origin story did it + a movie i meannnn.#but that means i would have to rework how clark comes back 2 life in death of su.perman#also last point here: clarks a mamas boy i love him being the young son taking care of his ma ( sighs wistfully at MOS scenes when he visit

gonna be annoying in the tags
#i have never understood the character = actor thing#like genuinely i dont fucking get it at all#if anything i think it both discredits the actors effort and the people that actually created the medias efforts#actors very rarely have anything to do with the characters creation nor do they have anything to do with a character outside of portraying#them like tbh i feel like its a massive insult to the work that goes into acting and writing#plus i just dont really care for actors personally#but thats just a me thing#idk!!! charlie cox does not equal matt murdock he had nothing to do with creating matt murdock#or like cillian murphy as jonathan crane#i dont like jonathan crane because he looks like cillian murphy i just like jonathan crane#like yeah he did a great job with acting in the trilogy and portrayed him great#but cillian murphy doesnt have any of the traits i like in jonathan crane idgaf about that guy aside from like two roles hes done#i dont know man#i just feel like itd be shitty to put months or years into the creation of media#into method acting and portraying these characters with the help of writers and directors#just for characters to not be acknowledged as seperate from their actors#idk. like jonathan crane is played by cillian murphy they have the same face whatever#but that is in no way shape or form the same guy at ALLLLL#idk. also fucks with fandom portrayals of characters#i.e booktok white women projecting poorly written smut onto every middle aged man ever#like you dont look at animated media and equate that character to their VA why would you do it for live action shit#you dont look at writers work and equate their characters to themselves#uuugggggghhhhh#plus i think the film idustry in general tends to give actors too much credit for the creation of media#not to say actors do nothing because they definetly do im interested in acting myself#but brother they r not the ones that direct and write and edit and sound mix and all this other shit#skyler posting#soigh#anyways

#dragon age#as a nonbinary trans person this is fairly close to how i felt about it#in some ways inquisition did trans inclusion better just because it engaged with it in the context of the in-universe cultures#which is not to say it was without flaws either#at minimum they could've cast a transmasc VA for Krem for example#and veilguard does a great job there! there are at least four confirmed trans characters all played by appropriately gendered trans actors#but i've played through the entire game as a nonbinary rook#and now started another run as an aqun-athlok qunari who's socially transitioned but not physically#and when you use the mirror to mark your character as trans there's zero option to say your physical presentation hasn't changed#and you're happy with that#ultimately i feel like it's a symptom of the broader problem of the game in that everything is relatively shallow compared to earlier games#there wasn't enough time/care put into making stuff fit into the world and give it depth and meaning#i have friends who've found this plotline to be enlightening and empowering and i am so happy for them that it's opened the door#i do not think including the trans stuff was a mistake in any way whatsoever and i'm glad they did it#i just wish it'd had more time to cook#I ALSO wish we hadn't been stuck with a binary choice of encouraging Taash to be Rivaini or Qunari at exclusion of the other#both because they're nonbinary and because that's how being an immigrant or mixed race works#it's really weird to insist it has to be one identity or the other period

Hi! I understand if you don't feel like sharing it ,but i really would like to read your meta about that Henry/Anne scene in BSR ''Isn't that enough?''. I hope you have a nice day.
"is it enough for you?" , but yes, i actually elaborated on this a little more elsewhere in other tags because i used that shot of that scene again for another edit.
so, expanding where i left off:
the images chosen are more the vibe for the quotes but the one from BSR is very specific
it's a great scene and it's so well-acted bcus she feels BAD for him here.
she pities him. she feels bad for him because he's losing her bcs she's not going to settle for these terms
because she knows she's amazing
and she's so self-posessed in the scene
and he cannot handle this and so it manifests in the reaction(you're making a big mistake; except that is his own big projection)
she's willful and knows her worth and won't diminish herself for anyone
...and i chose the reaction from the scene bcus it's not necessarily at odds with these descriptions (of her 'prudence')
bcs it takes a lot of dignity and self-worth and inward grace to stand one's ground enough (to withstand the 'tide of their prince')
...to give that rejection that by all social and cultural norms and graces she was simply not supposed to give. or was at least supposed to couch in more self-effacing terms.
but yeah anyway i know people thought BSR was 'trashy' but i actually thought the acting and chemistry between them was really great and maybe even lifted the writing from its weaker points.
because just the way he reels back at the line 'is it enough for you?' in all its pity-wrought glory...firstly, because it seems like it's a question no one has ever thought to ask him before, and secondly, so it gives way into that transformation from the shock into anger (how a 'lesser' person is daring to pity him, how he doesn't want her pity, he wants her love) which is just...chef's kiss. she absolutely obliterates his dignity here, not only in her rejection but in this eloquent explanation as to why this is her answer, and in the finality of her conviction. it is delicious. they could have this scene anywhere, in this darkened staircase for its the tudors copycat setting in this lithuanian palace, or on a fucking greenscreen, and it would still be just as powerful if these were its actors.
(im realizing that if anyone who is reading this hasn't watched they're going to think i'm an insane person based on this description... so hopefully the actual beats of the scene below will reveal what i mean, lol:
there's also a compelling subversion of (modern) expectation here, because...the only different thing in this equation is the status of the man asking to love her, asking why love is 'not enough'. for most 16c women of anne's status, no, 'love' wasn't enough. security was preferred. and, actually, it's very anachronistic how much this opinion is villianized (see, tobg:
...when it's like...yeah, a man's love was considered worthless. if it wasn't, they wouldn't have considered betrothal contracts to be a necessary evil!). it's very easy for him to say that she would 'want for nothing' (households, jewels, etc, one assumes), and she isn't allowing his ease: she's contradicting him, and pointing out that there is little security in the position of royal mistress.
herein lies the constant counterfactual moralistic tutting: anne 'should've just become a mistress,' always paired with 'this would, in the end, have made her 'safer.'' and it would have, as we know (not anne), but it would also, as she points out here, likely lead into her being a nonentity (a voice on the pillow, a woman hiding underneath the sheets and behind the bed curtains, an ornament for dancing), and she didn't want to be one: she wanted to be partner and collaborator of her future husband, not the diversion and darling of someone else's.
tl;dr the scene is powerful because she feels bad for him (she feels bad for herself, too, but she only allows him to see the former:
#redrosesandcharmingsouls#something about him essentially shouting at the top of his lungs 'WHAT'S SO 'HUMILIATING' ABOUT LOVE'#as he humiliates himself. for love. and so tries to leave with the final word.#and then still comes bounding back (by implication. the next MORNING?? ) like a fucking boomerang#all like step 1: failed.#and her asking why he would ask for something which diminishes them. why would he only want half a life with her?#doesn't he want more? it's a challenge but she's not expecting him to take it literally#she's asking why did you ask that of me? do you want me to think less of you?#do you think so little of me? do you think so little of yourself? don't you want more for yourself?#and it's the perfectly written question for these two people. from her to him#bcus they're both alike in that way. they both always want more for themselves#they are both always seekers#so yeah as much as i guess im alone in this opinion#i think this series did a really great job of like...establishing their point of connection#she's a challenge and he's a challenger.

Ok I’m probably not the best person to say this, but I’ve been seeing a lot of (as of right now) accurate insults on how the CGI approach for the Live Action Little Mermaid movie, but please be mindful that you don’t take things too far, and *especially* don’t start going after Halle Bailey (Ariel’s actress) and to a lesser extent, Ariel the character.
Antiblackness is still an issue in a lot of fandom spaces, and it doesn’t just come out as using nasty slurs or stereotypes. It manifests as drawing Black characters lighter and/or with more white features, it comes out as removing Black partners from ships, and it starts out as plausibly deniable insults that get the door open to microaggressions and outright nasty comments.
I’m not saying that all discussion of the movie should be stalled, or even if it turns out to be an artistic failure, that it doesn’t merit discussion. I’m saying that you shouldn’t extend your vitriol to the characters and actors.
If you really feel the need to insult her, it might be worth a little introspection. Ask yourself, “Do I resent that they changed Ariel, or that they changed Ariel in this way?”. You’re not irredeemable if your personal answer isn’t kind. Just be more careful, try and observe how that sort of world view affects your behavior to others, and then course correct.
A lot of little kids would love to see another Black Princess. A lot of little kids would love to have a Black mermaid as a main character. Hell, a lot of adults would love those too. Black fantasy characters have long been excluded, transformed, killed, merely in the background, relegated to stereotypes, villainized and have hardly ever in the spotlight, especially in major productions.
Don’t make it harder for kids (and adults!) to see themselves on screen. Don’t ruin their wonder. So don’t make unkind comments. Keep it to yourself. Frankly, Halle looks beautiful, and I can’t wait to see the sparkles in her fans’ eyes as she swims across the screen.
#live action little mermaid#the little mermaid 2023#Halle Bailey#I’m a white girl but the concept of a Black Ariel is near and dear to my heart#my best friend in elementary loved H20:Just add water and introduced it to me#and she dreamed (at least half then#we haven’t kept in touch) of ordering herself a mermaid tail to swim around in#and I really hope that she has. if she didn’t fuck up a year of college like I did (she was damn smart so I doubt it)#then she’s likely just about to graduate#M I hope you get a great paying job and can order yourself a beautiful quality tail and live out that little girl dream#you deserve it. I don’t think you had near enough#black girl Magic growing up. miss you#i doubt you’re on tumblr but just in case you’re wondering#‘is that me?’ I’ll give you a hint:#I used to say floober doober instead of cursing when we played Mario kart#I mean I did start cursing heavily later. but at first I said that#in any case idk if you’re still into mermaids but we both know you would’ve loved to watch this movie when you were little#this was both spurred on by all the flounder posts I’ve been seeing and ‘A Song Below Water’ by Bethany C. Morrow#one of the main characters Effie works as a Renaissance Faire mermaid and she talks a lot about#how people write fiction about her character but whitewash her or body swap her or would rather do self inserts#or the only comments made about her beauty are just about her tail and never about her Black skin or features#and how she (and her Mom before her death) were usually the only Black characters at the fair#and how she feels so beautiful and incredible being her mermaid self#also again I’m white so I don’t have personal experience but my younger brother is mixed#and he’s always been really lowkey about his feelings but#I took him to see Into the Spiderverse when it first came out#and he’s loved it since#here was this (adorable - don’t tell my brother I said that lol) lanky smart awkward hurting courageous Black boy on screen#and I can see in his heart how he’s been affected by it. he’s not a super fan or anything but I can just tell (big sister thing.) Anyways I#really hope that joy will happen more and more for everyone.

#keese draws#eternal gales#oc art#oc#my birthday is in a few days btw wish me luck#I’m trying to be excited best I can but yknow#I’m hoping that my friends and family do a good job at distracting me from the horrors for all that#which I’m sure they will they do a great job at keeping me from losing my shit on days like that#we’re going to eat good food and play games and it’s going to be fun and I’ll be happy#just need to hold out and not freak out too much in the meantime lol#but yeah I’ve been considering tweaking a couple of the staliens antennae recently#hence the mason#but I’m not sure if I’ll commit#most of the cast has fairly distinct antennae from eachother with mason being the main problem child to me#if I was willing to draw more detailed antennae then I’d go absolutely ham with everyone’s antennae but I’m not so#I’m mostly thinking abt this because I drew odile as a stalien a few days ago and gave her some fancy antennae#in my minds eye her antennae are Huge and she uses the to help read carved languages#the actual main stalien cast have very normal not noteworthy antennae except for sorta beats but having two pairs isn’t even that uncommon#but admittedly I am half tempted to try giving one of them huge antennae simply because it’d be fun to draw#but none of them rly fit the bill for that except maybe butter but they already have long ass ears they don’t need both#I should rly go fill out everyone’s toyhouse bios at some point I did like two or three a few weeks ago then gave up#and I didn’t even do any of the staliens I think I just did aris and sier#I also need to fix their mini playlists I have on their profiles but that can wait#anyways I now need to do some fun 2 am cleaning I was supposed to do hours ago#I got distracted drawing

Ian McKellen's Magneto could say "I've Been At The Mercy Of Men Just Following Orders. Never Again."
But Michael Fassbender's Magneto could never pull off "We love what you've done with your hair"
#honorable mention to: A bolt of lightning into a huge copper conductor. I thought you lived at a school?#Not saying michael fassbender did a bad job#I think fassbender!magneto was great#but Ian McKellen#just Ian McKellen#this i believe is the true difference in their portrayals of the character#They both do genocidal maniac very well; a man who will burn his world down for his cause#But McKellen's has that added something like he doesn't care how he is perceived and he has stopped trying to be nice#meanwhile Fassbender's can still at times be called a kind man or a man who is trying to do good#one of them would kill a child and laugh at the child's parents and the other wouldn't

me when im autistic and ive read the books and someone insinuates lestat doesnt have any trauma compared to the other characters and that he is the One Villain and it makes me want to scream into a pillow
#mine#there is not one villain first of all so jot that down. evberyone in this show has crazy insane trauma you just havent seen all of it yet#im pretty sure the last episode proved both those points#i think this show is really good for showing who has good media literacy its whole thing is that every single person speaking is unreliable#and its AWESOME#anyway lestat was heavily abused by both parents in two very different ways and i am extremely curious to see how they tackle his mother#also theres what armand did to nicki. smiles serenely#i think the show is doing a great job at making you THINK lestat is the one true villain etc but also at this point in the story... cmon#every character is a person who has lived far too long and has gone through far too much and does fucked up things to everyone around them.#and again. ITS AWESOME

i love stephpete in abstinence camp but them in npmd just doesn’t move me at all. idk what it is cuz there’s nothing wrong with them, they just do absolutely nothing for me. and what little affection i do start to feel for them in act 1 is completely soured by “if i loved you”. don’t know what that’s about but i think it means i need to watch abstinence camp again
#npmd spoilers#it’s a shame too cuz they both sound great in that song#but i always end up skipping it lol#i also don’t like pete as much in the stage play idk why#even tho i do think joey was a great choice for the character and did an amazing job

As a staunch lover of that style of music I found Daisy jones and the six in both book and show form sooooo disappointing
#Such great material but I felt a bit like I did with Maisel with like#The creators wanting to make a whole series about an Art Form#But they also weren’t interested in that art form enough in particular the political contexts of it#Like they took both 50’s bitter leftist Jewish comedy during the McCarthy era - where comedy was the definition of politically incorrect -#As in. Incorrect for the 50’s WASP airbrushed McCarthy era -#And Daisy jones doesn’t sink it’s teeth into how politically the last 60’s/early 70’s folk and rock scenes were#For a whole series I think that was something it needed to chew on far more#Like what is art what is the purpose of art what does art MEAN to people#The era feels more like an aesthetic than the all confining Reality in which people are living in#There’s a great New York Times review of the theory of everything that mentions how much movies struggle to be#ABOUT art and science and visualize what that means#And YEAH! DJATS should have had an easier time with people actually performing#Doesn’t do as good a job as we are lady parts or Mozart in the jungle or station eleven

Everyone go see Blue Beetle I am not asking
#please feel free to ignore this#It was so so good and the ways that it portrayed US imperliast violence in Latin America were surprisingly nuanced and DEEP#Like they went IN both literally and symbolically#Certain scenes were surprisingly upsetting and disturbing especially for a superhero movie#The scene with Kord outside the Reyes house was almost triggering in the way it played out but it was definitely intentional#I thought all the performances were great except for the actress who played Jenny she felt like a favor to someone#I also felt like they relied a little too heavily on George Lopez's presence not that he did a bad job#he just had a lot of screen time#I do think it's kind of funny how much more successful and identifiable Jaime Reyes is as the Blue Beetle#DC said Ted Kord walked so Jaime Reyes could run (straight to the bank)#Speaking of names the way they mispronounced his name as 'Jamie' even though he literally said 'it's Jaime' was too real#The number of times I've correctly pronounced my name just for bitches to ignore it and say whatever#Also whenever Victoria Kord called Harvey Guillén's character 'Sanchez' and said 'we can get ANOTHER Sanchez' like it was a job title#Real for that#Anyways it was a really good movie I cried like the second half lmao#movie review#I'm watching Blue Beetle

glad we all agree Allan LXG is forgettable at best. sure sure the story needs an old British hero to work but what is his personality really. Sean Connery playing him like every single sentence he says is utter torment also doesn't help.
#I feel bad for Sean ngl because hes a great actor and he did a good job but#you can FEEL his discomfort in the acting and even in the interviews#the hate he developed for Norrington while filming LXG...#bruh they had to delay entire scenes because they argued over EVERYTHING#Sean and Steve arguing ruined a lot of the filming for all the team involved which is a shame because the movie is well directed#and most of the cast is doing a phenomenal job like putting their hearts into it and enjoying themselves and loving their characters#it makes me sad#the movie isnt like. terrible. its cheesy its corny its got its faults#but I think the most glaring issues in the writing and direction (the messy pacing and the wooden delivery) would have been fixed#if they had gotten another actor to play allan#because no offense- Sean was a great actor I really like his acting style and he was a very handsome man. rip Sean you were a real one#but man he just got into the project out of curiosity and then was miserable through the whole thing and made it worse for everyone#ofc Steve Norrington is also. not free of sin in this. I feel bad for Sean because Norrington seems like- like he didnt handle it well#the both of them didnt act professional...#bruh I wrote a whole ass essay in the tags lol whats wrong w me lmao
