im finally caught up on the anime ive been watching for the past week, and now if i want to continue living in this beautiful world and learning about its cast of sordid characters i have to fucking read the manga

recent manga diary

- okay starting to read love bullet now.. the art honestly looks incredible im totally digging the art style 👁👁

- speaking of yuri im also reading erio and the electric doll. this is the new manga ive read the most of recently. it's a bit like kino's journey, mixed with yokohama kaidashi kikou, and pluto (naoki urasawa, and by extension, astro boy too). it tells of a post-war world in which androids destroyed a large chunk of humanity. because of that, people have taken to regressing to a pre-electricity world - into the world of steam. two girls walk away from their idyllic, albeit isolated life by the coast, in search of finding other humans and travel the world together. it has some really interesting world building and discusses some morally grey topics regarding humanity, war, and artificial intelligence.

- you might know the artist as the one who did a lot of work for final fantasy 14. the art is beautiful, with delicate linework, and a prominent steampunk aesthetic.

- going back to the yuri part - the main cast consists of a young teen and an android. the human girl has the power to create electricity, and so she charges her android by kissing her. they can charge via touching hands, but no they have to kiss. very cute.. i hyped it up but LMAO i don't know if i can recommend it for romance per se, as it's more platonic right now, but it's still a very charming read!

- i think this series would look so gorgeous if it came to life in an anime adaptation.. manifesting a steampunk anime in 2k25

- also started to read kageki shoujo, it's really fun so far!! those are my only thoughts on it for now. i haven't read a shoujo in so long i think.. might have to watch the anime adaptation as well, as i heard the animation is quite good.

- i also wanted to get into requiem of the rose king for the longest time, the brooding, gothic aesthetic totally looks up my alley, and the medieval politics looks interesting too. the pacing is a bit choppy, but idk if that's due to the poor fan translation, will have to source it from the library if i can..

- still catching up to medalist and shadows house, haven't read witch hat atelier in a while.

- caught up to skip and loafer 🥰 i wrote about it in some older diary entries, but it's literally so good. i really need to draw some skip loaf sometime..

- almost done the extra stories from emma.. and that's all folks!!

I know that the baby dragon (roger garp coparents) comics are so silly and fun and i ABSOLUTELY LOVE THEM but i was trying to remember all the characters in the crowd in the live action (im only in dressrosa in the anime) and then i thought too much about about your comics and now im SAD!!!

Garp and Roger at the very least being friends and co parents and Garp essentially KILLING HIM in front of DRAGON. Like roger may or may not be his bio dad but thats his PIRATE dad (a la shanks) and that being the dissolution of their family unit. Also fem!croc (possibly) being in the crowd???? Maybe they meet again there. Do you think roger looked at their "son" when he died? Do you think garp couldn't look at him?? And then for garp to stand there on an execution platform with ace???? His friends kid?? His grandson???? But this time instead of standing silently like dragon did, luffy refused to save himself.

And rayleigh, RAYLEIGH couldnt be there in his best friends final moments, couldnt be there for dragon, his nephew/godson/whatever. But finally he was able to help luffy after marineford. Finally he could help his family after so many years, even if luffy didnt know.

Anyways, love your comics and art, its all very fun and cute, even if the implications get me.

Also i guess this wasnt really a question, but i wanted you to know what you inspired in my brain and kinda get your thoughts!

I’m always happy to know that my silly comics get you to think! I do enjoy drawing fun stuff but as you said, most of them have more serious or angsty implications if you do continue spinning the universe a bit.

Like with the Baby on Board comics (the coparenting one) I imagine that even though Roger and Dagon’s relationship starts out easy and light-hearted, there eventually must be a moment where Dragon no longer feels welcome among the Roger Pirates (most likely when he joins the marines at a young age). I can imagine that Garp and Roger both (not very gently) teaching him that choices have consequences – he chose the path of the marine, which means that pirates like Roger will now be his enemy. And Garp is, his situationship with Roger aside, kind of hard-headed about his sense of justice.

Still, in an AU where he spent a portion of his childhood on Roger’s ship, he’d be upset about watching the execution, whether Garp is up there on the execution platform with Roger as in the live action or not. Maybe Dragon has to endure this without having gotten any closure with a man who had once claimed him as a son. And Rayleigh isn’t there to offer comfort or platitudes. Shanks and Buggy are too caught up in their own emotions to spare any thoughts on the feelings of a guy who occasionally looked after them.

I don’t know if it’s a spoiler to you, but we do know that Crocodile was for sure at the execution in the manga/ anime. So at least Dragon wouldn’t be entirely alone. I don’t know exactly which of my AUs the Baby on Board comics apply to (most of them?) but in some of the AUs this would certainly be a moment where Dragon and Crocodile meet/ see each other again/ enjoy a night together, toasting to the old era and welcoming a new one in their own way ;3

So if Dragon wants to drink his complicated feelings away, there’s someone there to do it with, even though I doubt he’d tell Crocodile that he knew the man who died today as more than just the King of Pirates.

And yes, of course I also like the idea of just how the Baby on Board concept would weave the threads of these people even closer together.

planning a new irish lads au. our media of choice? one piece!

the lads are a ragtag group of pirates sailing together- seán is our captain, daithi the shipwright, brian is an inventor/tech guy/artificer, daniel is a very reluctant navigator and kevin is their musician.

i feel as though seán would be the only fully human crewmate. brian would be a cyborg- starting as one rather than making himself one like franky did. daithi would be cool as a Mink, maybe a wolf or bear.

daniel and kevin are our devil fruit eaters. kevin eats the flame flame fruit- because of course he did. daniel however eats a fruit that grants him space/star manipulation and the ability to summon asteroids. cuz he's a menace like that.

HI MIELS!!! I BROKE OUT THE LAPTOP FOR THIS IM SORRY ALREADY FOR HOW LONG ITS GONNA BE<3

bsd stands for Bungo Stray Dogs! it's an anime/manga series :D it is, as you can probably guess, my current biggest fixation for the last like nearly a year ksdfhsdkhf

but!! it's super fun!! how to explain it... i guess more or less, it's set up as a detective anime where some people have superpowers (called special abilities, or just ablities, usually)! a whole lot of shit happens, the mafia is very involved, as of now in the series the world is currently in crisis and my favorite character is halfway across the planet just hanging out in France :)

but it is a lot... darker? more serious?? in a lot of places??? it covers a lot of more difficult topics (like war, abuse, and the cycle of abuse among others) although not always in serious ways (see: Dazai, who is well-known for constantly talking about suicide, and the fact that it is almost always played comedically)

one of my favorite things to mention with it is that bsd and My Hero Academia aired very very close to each other!! and while mha got super popular, bsd didn't get half as much attention. but when you have 2 superpower animes release so close to each other, it sort of makes sense that the one that's first 5 minutes is composed of "orphan who is actively starving to death gets scolded by man for saving him from killing himself" ISN'T the one that went big in mainstream.

OH ALSO!!! most of the characters in the show are based off of real authors!! and their abilities are named for those author's works. Dazai Osamu is a real author who wrote books such as No Longer Human, The Setting Sun, and Flowers of Buffoonery. Nakahara Chuuya was a real poet, and For the Tainted Sorrow is one of his poems! there are also American authors who show up (F. Scott Fitzgerald, Lousia May Alcott, Mark Twain, etc) and some others :3

now, both the anime and the manga are incomplete, and the anime caught up to the manga in the last season so it'll probably be a good bit of time until we get another season (unless they decide to stray from the manga, but tbh i don't see them doing that). BUT the manga releases chapters monthly usually :D AND there is a lot of "side" content, such as light novels and side-mangas, that are also still coming out (if you saw me screaming about Stormbringer, it's a LN that's getting a manga now!)

i am RAMBLING SO SO MUCH SORRY. as you can perhaps see, i am very excited about this silly little show. i also would love for you to watch it and tell me your thoughts or even to like. watch it with you if you'd want bc i so bad want to have more people to scream to about this show. 👍

hehehe im so happy I got ppl who know that nerdy König working In a comic store would be so fucking hot. Like just imagining it makes me want to do stupid stuff like walking in there dressed like sin and watch him sweat himself half to death while I ask him if they have batman comics <3

He works at a comic store because he likes comics and more often than not, he doesn't have to talk to anyone, just rearrange the shelves and order new runs of comics and manga.

But he's also huge, built like a fridge on steroids. When he's not working, he goes to the gym to sweat out all the excess energy. He does it too when he's too horny and frustrated and his hands don't help much, so he goes to lift weights and sweat buckets like a fucking animal <3

He likes the store he works at, some of the guys he works with are okay, some are not, and he even managed to make friends at work. Horangi is one of the guys that König likes to hang out with during his breaks, the man doesn't speak a lot, but when he does, König always snorts behind his mask at his stupid jokes.

Horangi is the guy that looks after the manga section most of the time, he's even responsible for kicking out weird guys who 'come' by to visit their anime waifus. It barely happens, but when it does, Horangi is there to kick a mf out and curse him out.

The shop next to theirs is a shop that sells video games, consoles, merch and such. And König has made a friend out of the workers there; Gaz. Gaz's a cool guy and knows a lot about games, especially RPG. But he also loves playing Animal Crossing: New Horizon, which he does when he's on a break and König doesn't feel like talking much, so he just watches the man chop trees and harass his villagers.

Gaz is kind, charming and funny. Everyone likes him and he manages to calm down clients that get too heated about certain games in their shop, claiming their opinions are the truth. He's also had his fair share of unpleasant clients and has never shied away from putting people in their place. König has watched the man lift weights, run hours and hours without stopping at the gym, and knows for a fact that whoever has the displeasure of pissing Gaz off, will regret it immensely with a broken nose.

now enough abt my babygirl Gaz, let's go back to our boy König.

at work, he's always the one who gets sent to carry heavy boxes and parcels in the storage room, he's the guy that sets up heavy decorations when needed. And he does it without breaking a sweat either. On more than one occasion, he has caught some people trying to steal comics, and he only needed to stick his hand forward, wait until the people placed the stolen comics in his palm like a scolded child, and moved aside so they can run away from the shop.

He does have to say shit or do anything and everyone would need to think 35 times before even thinking stealing something.

yessss oh my gosh always, gladly. so honored you would ask little ol me about such a thing... i haven't been reading much lately so here's just a little list of things ive picked up in the past few months or things i've liked for a long time..... all of them are on mangadex so just look em up... Im editing this to put them under the cut sorry i didn't do it before ive been on the clock for like 4 hours and im tired Lights cigarette

fool night yasuda kasumi !!! it's currently ongoing and i recently got caught up... if i had to describe it in two words.. "post-chainsawman." it's very similar in a lot of ways, but has very different priorities.. what i really like about it is that it has kind of a tighter focus on the "poverty and capitalism" angle that chainsawman definitely covers but doesn't really devote its full attention to. in a world where the sun no longer shines, plants can't grow, so humans are constantly at a deficit of oxygen... to combat this, government facilities offer a payout to desperate people who can't afford to live if they allow themselves to be "transflorated" -- basically fed on by a magical spiritual plant that will eventually kill them and release oxygen in their stead. one such desperate person undergoes the procedure only to find he has the special ability to communicate with transflorated bodies after theyve passed... and then he becomes a Plants Detective and shenanigans ensue. Super good it made me cry... art is beautiful..... definitely worth a read if youre looking to pick up something ongoing

babel no toshokan by tsubana - stumbled upon this after reading the artist's other work "wakusei closet" on a whim... this shorter story is much preferred and has engraved itself deeply on my heart. a girl with a strange set of beliefs about reality enters a strange relationship with a boy who can read everything that's ever been written just by touching an identical sheath of paper..... seriously so good. give it a go if you want something short and sweet

planet laika & scorched earth of love by mayuri yoshida, this is a short manga and one shot bundled with it that has been one of my favorites for like FOUR YEARS NOW!!! mayuri yoshida's sickly cute animal people + loving intricate lineart combine to create a really unique visual aesthetic. its about the titular laika , as in, the dog launched into space, who has since become the ruler of a planet of dogs, and her plot to take revenge on humanity. also she has a lesbian wife. the one shot is so good too SO DONT MISS IT!!!

anyone who has heard me talk about comics for the past year or so probably knows i've been trying to get Just yknow everybody on earth to read dead dead demon's dedededestruction by inio asano. nothing i could ever possibly say about it could do it justice it's seriously my favorite manga of all time. it's about being in love with your best friend and the end of the world and aliens and politics and the internet and stuff. asano's art is truly breathtaking and unlike anything else on earth, the characters are all infectiously lovable, and it's just like... endlessly life affirming and heals my heart in a way i have a hard time articulating.

and last one... not strictly manga but i have really enjoyed keeping up with wanan's webcomic no home recently... its a long one, but i read about 275 chapters of it in like 3 days, because it's that hard to put down, LOL... extremely inspiring character writing and also just insanely fun, eunyung became an all time favorite character of mine on impact and it has one of those casts where you can't help but have fun watching them be together in literally any situation. it's about a bunch of kids with shitty family situations trying to figure out to learn to live with eachother. its an extremely good example of mundane character drama being written so compellingly that it will make you start slamming your head on walls at work. Speaking from experience.

I FINALLY watched the Tango on the Campania and it was the BEST. Show stopping, jaw dropping, just awed at how amazing it was and so, please enjoy my unfiltered rambling during my liveblog:

I dunno maybe the musical just has more room to reinterpret the events than the movie

ciel is so good here!! you get to see how sulky teenager he is. how childish he is, I love the grounded format, this is the best!!!

the pacing is a thousand times better, I love how they don't waste time on details and move in beat, and the songs they have add much need context for the story in ways the animation could not.

I LOVE how the zombie crate song literally shows like ciel is reenacting his trauma, separated from everyone while sebastian narrates, almost pleased his massacre reminds ciel of that day.

I like it when the adaptions treat ciel clumsier than he is too, like in the movie he trips over a chair causing him and lizzy to fall or the musical when its both him and lizzy that couldn't get to the watertight door

the musical is making up so much for the anime's lack luster expression, like you see ciel actually struggling so much he's dragging himself off the floor to get to lizzy. like actually desperation

ok lizzy's voice dropping an octave <3<3<3<3 I'm insane and all the little details in her song. how she's almost embarrassed, humiliated to be wearing childish shoes or her childish appearance but if that makes him happy! if that makes him accept her!! and I need to go over all the details for the song I love it, official lizzy song to me, ummm, the fight is so much better too, I love it, not too flashy, just like her family..her mummy. emphasizing she must be a bride, that being a bride is what's most important!!
