"I'm obsessed with you."

The soft clacking of your keyboard abruptly stop as your fingers freeze in the air. You peel your eyes away from the screen to look at Asmodeus, who was sitting across from you.

He's leaning forward with his chin resting against the palm of his hand. He twirls his pink, glitter pen in his other hand, no doubt to show off his freshly manicured nails. They're purple and sparkly today. A bold choice.

His fingers stop momentarily. "Utterly obsessed," he says before resuming.

You glance down at his paper. It's blank.

You return to the essay you had been writing. "I know," you say. You've been struggling with Seductive Speechcraft recently, so it's imperative that you ace this assignment. You don't need any more distractions.

Asmodeus sighs. It's long and dramatic, practically begging for you to pay attention to him again. You refuse to take the bait.

He sighs again. It's shorter this time, more irate. "I wish you were half as interested in me as I am with you," his tone is so sickly sweet that you barely notice he's whining.

You continue typing, but you know better than to ignore Asmodeus entirely. Bad things could happen. "Why?" You ask, only half paying attention.

That must have hit a nerve because his next sentence is high-pitched and curt, "Because it's not fair!" Asmodeus slams his pen down before reeling himself back. He clears his throat, returning to his honeyed persona, "I mean, I don't think it's fair that I am so hopelessly in love while you get to be all cool and unfeeling."

You pause, trying to think of a synonym for the word potion. "I'm not unfeeling," you say. You return to your work when you remember that the word elixir exists.

"I know," Asmodeus starts writing on his piece of paper. You silently commend him for finally starting his school work an hour after meeting you in the library. "But don't you think we're destined to be together?"

"No."

He puffs out some air. "But you're the only human--entity--" he corrects himself, "that my powers don't work on. The only person that I want but can't have. Don't you think that means something?" He twists the cap of his pen around.

"No."

Out of the corner of your eye, you notice that he has doodled his and your name in large, swoopy letters surrounded by a dozen hearts. You shake your head.

Asmodeus sits back and crosses his arms. "Oh, you're such a bore," he says. He lightly kicks you underneath the table. You don't retaliate. He pauses, waiting for you to respond. When you don't give him that satisfaction, he grabs his D.D.D. and starts tapping away. After a minute, he asks, “Do you mind if I take a selfie? I haven’t updated my story in two hours.”

“Go ahead,” you say. You take a short break to look up a word in your textbook before you continue working on your essay. At this rate, you should be done within an hour. 

He hums, but doesn’t move. He’s still typing on his D.D.D. with a bored expression on his face. A few minutes of silence only filled by the quiet sounds of your keyboard and the whispered chattering of the other patrons followed. Asmodeus frowns. He doesn’t look upset per se, but...

You flex your fingers over the keys. “I still like you,” you say. You close your laptop, placing it away in your bag.

Asmodeus perks up. His eyes sparkle under the harsh library lights. “Really?” He whispers. He puts his phone down. 

You laugh under your breath, “Yes, really.” You sling your bag over one shoulder. “Do you want to go get some coffee?” you ask, holding your hand out, “All of this work has tired me out.”

He nods and intertwines his fingers within yours.

Arun, in Mughal Era dress

(i had fun researching the fashion history so im gonna include a bit of info under the cut for anyone interested!)

First, Armand is dressed more typically for the upper class or royalty, but I wanted to paint him all dolled up. This would have been somewhat typical dress for Mughal Empire (roughly the 16th-18th centuries) royalty. Men of all classes would typically wear the Jama (the overcoat). I depicted this one as made of Dhaka Muslin, one of the finest and rarest fabrics produced from the Dhaka region. The technique has since been lost, but at the time was incredibly sought after. So much so that during the British colonizers would take the artisans and materials and force them into reproducing the fabric for little to know compensation. Dhaka Muslin was so fine that it was practically transparent, and was worn by members of the upperclass across the world. I read somewhere that it was used to dress statues of greek goddesses. Another little detail is that Armand's Jama is fastened to the right, typical of a Muslim man, rather than to the left (a Hindu man).

I based this loosely off of Caravaggio's Bachus and Depictions of Prince Salim.

All the info I got was from these three youtube videos, so it's not like any serious research!

"Edmund, I've got a bad feeling" is such a funny line if you take it in context with the "the last time I didn't believe Lucy, I ended up looking pretty stupid" line from PC. Because Caspian and co are probably like... yeah bad feeling, it's Eustace, what good feelings could you have? but then Edmund's probably thinking something like... dear god, please don't let this be as dramatic as the last few times, we don't have enough men to fight another war rn.

caitlyn is sososo interesting this season because yes she’s the most open and vulnerable with vi, but even in their scenes together, you can see cait choosing her facial expressions. and even in the kiss scene it’s all focused on vi. we don’t see cait for the majority of it, and we don’t see her face when they kiss. when we DO see her face in that scene, it’s uncharacteristically lacking in emotion! it’s intense, and while you can tell this moment means something to her, she’s not being herself. she’s hiding. and she’s been doing that all season with everyone.

i think the subconscious reason cait kissed vi when she did was that she knew they were in conflict and wanted to kiss her before they fell out, instead of actually dealing with the problem. that moment just feels like resignation from her. (AND i think vi looked so confused at caitlyn’s affection because she couldn’t tell what was going through her head.)

People always talk about the Kaz and Wylan parrells but have we ACTUALLY went in and talked about them??

They both lost their parents around the exact same time. In the books Kaz is one year older then Wylan and his dad died when he was nine. Marya had "died" whenever Wylan was eight years old. Both had their lives flipped upside for the worst in the SAME YEAR.

Both of them had their lives ruined by a man they put all their trust in and fought to get revenge for. With they BOTH did.

Kaz only fought back because he wanted revenge for Jordie. Jordie was his sole purpose for ticking and going after Pekka. Wylan's was Marya. His mother. Throughout the first book despite wanting to get back at his father, he still feels guilt and is more afraid of him then revengeful. But after he learns his mother is alive?? After he learns what his father did to her? That is his motive. That is what kept Wylan going. And Kaz knew that.

Both Kaz and Wylan were rebirthed from the water. Kaz states that the child he used to be had died, and for Wylan's sake its the same. Wylan Van Eck died that night just like Kaz Retived did. The only difference was that Wylan didn't kill who he was. He just pushed him down.

(Fun fact to note that Wylan has his own scheming face as well others point out)

And the show does not hold back on these parallels as well but also shows how opposite these two are. Both of them hid so much of themselves from the person they loved and they BOTH admitted it in a momment of trust. Wylan asking Jepser what his passport says, and Kaz telling Inej about how pekka killed his brother. And even then they both still hide the full truth. But unlike Kaz, Wylan doesn't pull away from Jesper. Even if he doesn't tell him that he is a Van Eck. Wylan accepts the key. Kaz keeps his armor on.

Wylan had every chance to become Kaz, and Kaz had every chance to become Wylan.

thinking about John Doe and the dark world as a metaphor for addiction/relapse.

How circumstance and trauma pushed him to do something he told himself he’d never do again, and how he has to live with the consequences and the memories, even though he’s working to not be that person anymore.

And how much shame he carries about the things he’s done, because even if he was pushed to do them, he still did them. To him, he still made that choice, and he has to bear the weight of that.

Thinking about 43, in particular, where the witch is trying to tell John that all he was is all he’ll ever be. That, despite the work he’s put into bettering himself, he’ll only be seen as his mistake in the eyes of some.

And it just feels really meaningful that Arthur’s love is what saved him, in this context. That being forgiven and loved unconditionally, even though he’s made mistakes and hurt people, is how he can cope with the memories of what he’s done. It’s how he can stop himself from slipping back into being someone he doesn’t want to be, even when it’s hard.

love isn’t what makes him better, but it’s what makes him want to work to be better. It doesn’t undo what he’s done but it allows him to live with it.

I just think it’s interesting to read this as an addiction narrative, because so often addicts are dismissed because they’re addicts. Regardless of how much we’ve healed or how far we’ve come, there are some people who will never see beyond our addiction and will force their perspective onto us. Some people hold no compassion for us because they think we’ve made the choice, and think that the harm that resulted from that “choice” makes us unredeemable.

and to see John receiving Arthur’s support and love despite what he’s done, or what he was pushed to do, really reflects how important support is to recovery. Arthur doesn’t absolve John of his mistakes, he doesn’t dismiss the harm he caused, but he doesn’t hold it against him. He knows John is more than what he’s been, he knows John is capable of change and a good person in spite of it, he knows John is capable of being better. Only John can do the work of becoming who he wants to be, but Arthur’s love and support makes the work a little more bearable.

Things I make for myself when insomnia kicks in

Just a chart about what I wanna change up and keep consistent in my art - I mainly wanna draw Raph with a tail because he deserves one, it fits too well. Donnie gets a long tail too because I didn’t realize how dino-like he looks until I gave him one, and now it’s a must for me haha.
