the best explanation of Ni i’ve ever given up to this point
if you want to really understand Ni look no further than this post. i can’t believe i managed to finally put it so well LOL.... i hope it helps you understand it better because we REALLY gotta demystify it. this comes from my firsthand experience with highly conscious/differentiated Ni, that and a Lot of reading on theory to make sure what i experience is indeed Ni.
you can see potently how Se/Ni works (at least when Ni is dominant) in what i wrote here on a profile:
“i should note that i analyzed one clip in depth here but i used it because it’s so representative of sadie’s character as a WHOLE. my vote comes from my general impression of her personality over the course of the entire show, not any one single clip—i actually just used the first clip i came across on youtube and that was enough to demonstrate my point about her being ISFJ! so i’m not cherrypicking evidence. (also right here perfect example you can actually see that “all the top 3 functions need to justify Ne use” in me too but with Se instead lol)”
that “i actually just used the first clip i came across on youtube and that was enough to demonstrate my point about her being ISFJ” is so Se/Ni. it’s so.... “detached” from the particularity one’s own concrete experience, like Se is something to be utilized where experiences are easily exchangeable with any other. because the main point is that overall impression with Ni (like an ant colony), and using any clip you can find merely as a demonstration of it because you have no choice to if you want to objectively point to it (a single ant).
but Se/Ni finds that a single clip is still only a slice of the full picture and shouldn’t be taken by itself as its own self-contained argument without paying mind to all the other concrete examples out there. this single example is simply an epitomization of Ni’s impressions in an Se form that i can actually point to and others can objectively see. i have to keep it simple, because even though i think it would be more well-rounded for giving people that evidence to support Ni, putting together multiple clips to make a point isn’t always energetically sustainable and wastes my time, and i doubt other people have the time to sit through it either. i’ve done it before and it takes hours, not worth it. but that’s the ideal cognizing of Se/Ni.
just to put into perspective how much lack of justice a single clip—a single concrete example (Se)—does to communicate the depth of an Ni impression, understand that to communicate an Ni impression in its entirety i’d have to have the other person watch the entire series. or at least every scene and episode with this character in it. because that’s what i did, and that’s where my Ni impression is derived from. every single raw experience is important and adds nuance to Ni's impression until it’s so well molded that it genuinely takes on a character that feels “realer” than any one example it was derived from. because that impression IS the culmination of the entire thing, compressed into a well-established impression, but removed from any specific concrete representation.
and i trust that other people have context besides this single clip because they watched the show. that is Se’s ontological prejudice: assuming that concrete experience is in the public domain and is available to anyone that cared to look. and this single clip is just one arbitrary pick in a sea of equally compelling examples to choose from to demonstrate Ni’s impression and the user’s reasoning in a way that can be objectively pointed to.
i love the ant colony-ant metaphor for Ni and Se respectively. like the concept of an “ant colony” being something that you can’t easily point to yet it exists. so the only thing you can do is point to any single ant at a time, since they are the basis upon which the whole ant colony exists in the first place. but it would be a mistake to assume that any single ant you point to is all that there is to the entire ant colony. that's EXACTLY Ni and Se. it’s easy to understand because it’s at such a microscopic level that anyone, including Ne/Si users, can know what you mean.
but Se/Ni takes this to a MUCH larger scale, where not all “ants” (or Se examples/experiences) are visible and working together all at once in the same time and place, but rather are broken up and stretched across a period of time and space that aren’t going to be visible in its entirety at any given moment.
it’s like in edwin abbott’s flatland, where the 3-dimensional sphere passes through the 2-dimensional plane and the flatlanders only see it as a line that grows and shrinks in width, unable to make sense of the entire thing at once. if each slice of that sphere through the 2-D plane is an individual Se experience, then Ni is tracking them all, and mentally piecing them all together into something greater than what was ever objectively manifest at any individual point. no one else saw the sphere, because the image of a sphere on its own was never objectively there at any point (unlike the ant colony, since all the ants contributing to the entirety of the ant colony exist in one contained place and time).
the flatlanders just can't see it as a whole thing at any given time because Se only works with what is objectively manifest without extrapolating. Ni tracks all these individual raw experiences and fuses them together, tossing aside whatever was concretely there at any point (the individual Se slices) because it perceives the whole thing in its accumulated entirety in a way that takes on a new qualia, distinct from the pieces that made it up. if you’re interested or want more examples, this phenomenon actually has a name—it’s called “emergence”. it’s exactly the kind of stuff Ni extrapolates out of Se.
for the purposes of providing a fuller picture of the reality of Ni, i would also like to add that when there isn’t really any objective truth or “source” underlying multiple pieces of data (though there usually almost always is), Ni will still perceive it as if there is; a mental illusion of sorts. the 3-D sphere needn’t even actually exist in the first place; it can be a 2-D object that somehow grows and shrinks in diameter. Ni will still piece it together and perceive it as a 3-D sphere. this can be either ultimately harmless or dangerously delusional, but that is why the judgment functions exist to counter it, to check for soundness by applying reason and getting objective feedback from the outside. this is why Ni doms seek to know first and foremost if their intuitions have any “meaning” in the first place before wanting to hear what people think or feel about them.
INTP friend: “It must be hard knowing you usually can't give people the whole picture easily. I see why you're inclined to mainly interact with people as the same interests as you: way less explaining and providing context”
this is exactly why i use spongebob so much for analogies and as a concrete basis for communicating or exemplifying trans-contextual Ni constructs that exist in my mind. because people know the context, they know the characters, i can trust pretty much anyone i talk to to have seen every season 1-3 episode. so spongebob is a rare example of the ant colony analogy at the macroscopic level, the level at which Se/Ni functions at.
Si is pickier about what concrete information it chooses to store, and tends to miss the forest for the trees when it comes to concrete perception. however, it makes up for this by maintaining that original fidelity and detail.
Ni doesn’t have the concrete fidelity that Si does, but you had better believe it is taking in the entire palette of Se without filtering those concrete experiences against an internal concrete representation. just as Ne takes in the wide palette of intuitive possibilities and doesn’t identify any extrapolation that is more prevailing than another, which is something that Ni users cannot do.
the weak part of Ni is that it has trouble hanging on to all this detail because it’s simply so much. so instead what it does is perceptually summarize possibly years’ worth of Se information as a single impression. it cuts corners on the detail because the details are ultimately irrelevant and would be impossible to remember, so what remains are the prevailing constants (see how it’s similar to Si?), but regardless of detail (hence, making it an extrapolative/intuitive function since it deviates from what was literally there). so most of the time this ends up being perceived by Ni as archetypes, tropes, “vibes”, a potent particular atmosphere about a thing, all very hard things to convey in words. they need to be refined with the judging functions to be deciphered in any meaningful way, yet the raw experience of that impression is already lost the moment you try to make sense of it by rationalizing it. it’s simply not possible to convey the extent of it.
Ni is vague, yet still perceived as strong and unshakeable.
if i could describe it visually, it’s like a circle made with the airbrush tool in an art program. fuzzy and ill-defined around the edges, except the opacity is 100% and the value is dark in the center, like it was gone over and reinforced multiple times. if it was on paper the ink would’ve easily bleed through. like this:
Tumblr media
INTP friend: “That in mind, is there anything I could do that'd make communication more comfortable /easier for you? You've talked about putting in effort to understand others only to not get it in return, and I want to be considerate of that experience.”
see thats the thing. even if someone does everything right it’s impossible to communicate the depth of an Ni insight unless the person has experienced the exact same things as you have and can innately understand that depth. and in that case i wouldn't have to bother elaborating much in the first place.
you’re doing everything right. you’re engaging with my ideas; letting me know that they have meaning (by identifying that you also see examples that my intuition applies to, implying to me that this is evident outside of my own perception, like “OH THANK GOD SOMEONE ELSE NOTICES THIS”). i don't expect the depth of the insight to be shared because that’s an impossible order; someone would basically have to live my entire life the way i lived it because Ni intuitions utilize cross-contextual experiences, usually in the form of other intuitions, all ultimately derived from the entire palette of Se data i've gathered over a lifetime.
and i think that’s why Ni seems so powerful and why we just “know” things, because it’s like an entire life’s worth of the entire spectrum of raw experience but HIGHLY compressed (and of course has to lose some concrete fidelity because of that). it’s like taking a 1080p 20GB movie and compressing it to 45MB. the picture is fuzzy, but the same amount of info is there and takes up less space on your hard drive.
or like how a star can be really small in diameter yet have a super high density from compressing all the mass that once made it hundreds of times larger. Ni is like that. it’s all that information packed into a small space. it doesn’t seem like much, especially to an Ne/Si user who sees Ni intuitions as just another possibility among many.
Ne is only quickly glancing over stars’ diameters, giving it a broad, general picture. since it is an objective function, it can’t know the density of any given star, because the density of experience is on the inside of the star and is not objectively observable to the outside world. it’s quite alienating when it’s your dominant function!
(the analogy falls apart with the fact that we can know the density of stars. however, the analogy still applies in a sense since we can only know a star’s mass, and thus its density, by observing the effect it has on space around it, not unlike the way extraverted functions comprehend stuff.)

hi i'm curious how does an 3w4 esfp who only focus on her goal would look like ? but has an intj complex and think of herself she's one?
i engaged with her a few times
i will describe her behaviors first
she doesn't talk much but she likes to hang out just by herself or with someone she really close with. Hanging out means grabbing some coffee and read some books there or riding bicycle alone.
she's very goal oriented person she doesn't care if its not important for her. she has very big Fi like very. she said she could hate anyone without anh reason. do immature intj can be like that??????
i introduced her to mbti and take test first cuz it would be a good start.and yess she got intj on every test and now think of herself one since some common behaviors match her. i explained her about the functions stacks and everything i observed about this.
her response was ''trust me i'm intj'' without any explanation. even i asked do u know how Ni works she only said 'i dun know about that much but ik i'm one'' 😧 that doesn't make sense. and her another reply was 'i never tell or show the side of me solving problems''. well this is even worse than the above.
she even said dr.strange is similar to her cuz he will do anything for his love. that's wht she focused. so i told her if u wanna know about him try to profound him do not look at the traits only she said she did that. so i said tell me about ur opinion and who he is? she said '' didn't u watch the movies . u should know it''😶.i think real intj will understand my question.
so i wanna know ur opinion about this behaviors
ik i might look way too much in data i'm still learning so plz help me out
if it were u how would u prove or slove in the way she believe?
oh and do u think young intjs would buy stuffs like clothes and bags that doesn't really necessary? cuz she does that too. she even bought sunglasses with different styles but doesn't use it.
Um, well first, I don't know enneagram. And obviously, I can only go by what you've written here, so I could be wrong. But your friend does sound like a young/developing intj.
An esfp focused on their goals will still be extraverted, outgoing, communicative and fairly chill unless they're very depressed. Your friend doesn't sound depressed from your description, she sounds like she knows what she likes and is taking care of herself (going out for coffee with friends).
It sounds like your friend has the appropriate young ni vagueness/inability to express itself and the young te borderline arrogance (when she says 'haven't you seen the movie?).
And the buying stuff you don't really need sounds like an attempt to use low Se. It's not really a problem unless it becomes one, obviously, but if she can afford to do it it's just a nice way in*js like to connect with the world around them. In general, the es*ps I know would actually wear all the different styles of sunglasses they have, whereas our low se can get us excited about the possibility, but then because it's low we can get overwhelmed and just wear like 1 of them anyway.
I'd also like to add that *ntjs get way to much credit as logical robots, and if your friend seems to have strong Fi that's probably a sign she IS a tj. Because high Fi users don't exhibit signs of feeling like that, it's more apart of who they are (if that makes any sense). They use Fi so easily and naturally you might not notice it, because it's better developed. If you can notice Fi weak spots (like not doing ANYTHING you're not interested in, to the point of arrogance), it's more likely a tj thing. In general.
Also, as a side note, I think Benedict Cumberbatch is an istj, in addition to the character doctor strange (cos he doesn't use ni, he just has time seeing super powers).
The only other types your friend sounds kind of like from this description would be infj (but severely ti grip and miserable, unlikely to buy useless things in this depressed state), i*tp (but ti probably would've given you a better explanation of why they think they fit intj), or possibly istj, but I think si could've explained its logic better. She doesn't really sound like she's engaging with the external world enough to be an extravert (multiple jobs/hobbies/social groups/changes in fashion for no reason/just little adventures out in the world that aren't super planned).
When she says she doesn't show the side of her that figures things out, that seems like a fair argument to me. Te is often confused for ti, but it doesn't sort things out like that. Te is much more likely to just fix things with duct tape because it works, and can actually look like an avoidance of conflict/debates/explanations of logic. It wants to get things done, and tjs usually don't enjoy having other people's input on their efficient solution - like an intp saying, 'you realise given its just duct tape it'll be broken again in 6 months time?' To which they're likely to reply, 'then I'll do it again in 6 months!' Unless they know there will be worse problems from doing it the short way, that's their preference. They can be impulsive in their decision making and not research things properly because it just seems right to them. And since they lead with te, they usually have the capacity to pull that off, especially if their si or ni is well developed. This extends into personal interactions, which can make them ritualistic (offering tea when you're sad, always following etiquette) and unknowingly being blunt (for example, asking 'what do you want me to do about it?' when you're sad, without realising that might sound sarcastic and not like a genuine offer of help).
So I hope that helps! Obviously I can't say for sure from a short description, but that short ask sounded like an intj to me 😊

Good day! I'm pretty sure I'm an IXFJ type but still teasing out if I use Si/Ne or Ni/Se. Any advice you have is welcome! :)
I am very much in my own head constantly, observing situations and mulling over mental imagery that pops up randomly at times. Like, I will see an object in the world, such as a rose ornament on a shelf, which will bring to mind Beauty and the Beast "Enchanted Rose", then the mirror that is used in the story to see her family. Which will then then lead on to imagery of Phantom of the Opera (the link being a beautiful woman being drawn to a "beast" like character and the use of a mirror being used as a reveal). All imagery that I find positive and inspiring, giving me a sense of romanticism and that there's more to life than just the concrete.
I have felt that I had to be a Ni user because I dive deep into associative imagery and daydream A LOT. But then I read Jung's description of Si, notably this part "introverted Sensation is sense-perception that focuses more on the psychological reaction to objects, than on their objective qualities. This subjective part of Sensation is most easily demonstrated in art. Even a still-life scene will be painted differently from artist to artist, in terms of its treatment of colour, form, and mood. Si pours its personal, subjective attitude into its perception of the concrete world, so it’s as if it ends up seeing something quite unique and different from what’s actually there" which would perhaps explain why I could be an ISFJ AND live in a world of inter related imagery and impressions.
I would say I'm very much moved by what goes on in my mind's eye and become attached to places, objects, stories, narratives that become part of my everyday life. I did wonder if this was Fi instead although I believe I'm more likely a Fe user because my focus is more on what is appropriate/rude in social contexts, how to best get on with others and yes, unfortunately at times I minimise myself to not be at odds. I do have my own preferences and loves/hates but will not display these so much, especially if I know the person/people I'm with have contrary sentiments. Something I'm learning to get better at, self expression.
I like to have the outer world kept calm and pleasant as possible so that I can dive in deep within myself; I suppose that's why I'm so routine and probably a bit predictabe (read: boring). I have patterns I stick to each day such as when I have my lunch, downtimes activities after work (reading, bathing, watching tv, ASMR videos before sleep). Even when I'm on holiday I'll follow set behaviours like making sure I have a cup of tea before bed while reviewing pictures of the day.
I haven't truly considered ISFJ properly before because of my daydreams and vivid mental imagery. They're vital parts of me. That said, if Si is more to do with creating inner symbols then I can see a case for me having that over Ni. Jun says this also "The Si type’s perception of the concrete world is adapted to the “eternal truths” - archetypal or even mythological patterns of life.
Si, in a sense, sees the background of the physical world. The important thing isn’t the object, but its reflection in the Si type’s psyche. As a result, objects don’t only appear in their present instance, as Se sees them, but also with a vague sense of their past and future, “somewhat as a million-year-old-consciousness might see them”. Si covers the concrete world with a shroud of meaning, subjective experience and archetypal truths."
I also didn't believe I could be a Sensor because I'm not noticing much of the present moment details, at least not consciously, although I am detail orientated in my memory about people, events, objects etc. I'm quite clumsy too physically. I wouldn't say I'm good at Sensing and feel "out of the world" often. But then again I'm perhaps better than I think. I do see myself as a 9w1 in enneagram and a lot of characters I relate to I've noticed are ISFJ 9w1s who are more dreamy romantic archetypes (Beth March, Jane Bennet, Christine Daae). I know you shouldn’t really type by which characters you relate to though, but figured I’d mention too. If anything I probably over explain than under explain! I often doubt my instincts and insights, whereas I understand NJs especially INJs have faith in their insights. I am hesitant about the past too though, wondering if I’m remembering situations that have happened to me correctlyc or rather interpreted them in the right ways. That’s more to do with past trauma though (I was assaulted and bullied by classmates, which gaslighting was a part of).
Sorry I’ve gone on quite long. I understand if this is too long winded and makes no sense.
All of this is absolutely, beautifully, perfectly Si impressionism. :)
Si metaphorical images are easily shared and understood by people everywhere due to the influence of Ne “creating out of” what the Si user deems important. Si users form inner archetypes and impressions, built out of sensory experiences and what individually appeals to and ‘draws’ their interest -- so ISFJs, especially as 9s, can be very romantic, dreamy, interested in archetypes (mythology or fairy tales or knights and maidens fair, etc.) or in mulling over what they most love.
Ni is colder, more impressionistic, more far-fetched, higher concept, and less easy for other people to understand -- consider the movies of Darren Aronofsky or Christopher Nolan or even the television series Twin Peaks for reference.

Yosano Akiko: ESFP [BSD]
Se > Fi > Te > Ni
*Based off Season 1 of the anime [Chapters 1-12] with character-based spoilers from the Wikis. I’ve also read a synopsis of “The Untold Story of the Founding of the Detective Agency,” which gives lots of insight into Fukuzawa and Ranpo in particular, and also I know Yosano’s backstory. The Onsen Drama will also make an appearance occasionally. I feel like I have a good enough grasp on their characters for this and will only add more examples rather than changing types in the future. (At least, I think so.)
I’VE ALSO SEEN HER TYPED AS: ISFP, ISTJ, ESFJ
Se is perhaps the most in-the-moment, grounded function and fits with Yosano’s character. She loves to go shopping, which is a stereotypical sign of Se, and is also quite attuned with fashion (as she mostly gets clothes on outings). Yosano is quick to act and doesn’t let her emotions stop her, like when dealing with Atsushi and the train incident. (This is why I don’t see her as Fi-dom.) Atsushi’s Si-Fe sent him into a bit of a panic at the new situation that could easily hurt others, but her Se-Fi brought him out of it in a way he could understand (that is, through Sensing and Feeling). Unlike Kunikida, (whose dominant function is an extroverted judging function) she doesn’t necessarily get energy from other people but rather experiences (sensory / physical in this case). The difference between them is that Se isn’t people-focused like Te is, so ExxPs can pass as being traditionally introverted sometimes. On the other hand, I still can’t see Yosano as a commonly-accepted introvert either; she’s seems to like parties and get-togethers too much for that! Yosano also doesn’t strike me as a Judging type; she doesn’t like being late, but that may be related to Se or just common courtesy. She seems a bit too laid-back, go-with-the-flow, and spontaneous to be an xxxJ.  I’m also trying out this theory that generally someone’s likes and dislikes correspond to whether or not they’re a sensor or intuitive.
LIKES: Flowers, eels, sake, wagashi (Japanese sweets)
DISLIKES: Male chauvinism, weak men
There are both perceiving functions present here despite her Se and Ni being at the top and bottom, but Yosano is a well-balanced individual who knows herself well. (This is similar to Fukuzawa, who has a mix but also functions with distant sensing and intuition.)
Her Fi is also pretty apparent. Yosano is quite empathetic and has strong values (especially when it comes to life / death and sexism against women, as we saw with Kajii) but can toss aside others’ feelings when looping, like thinking her ability made soldiers’ injuries “no big deal” and expecting them to toughen up. Individualism can come from plenty of functions, but her grudge against Mori is largely because of him controlling her and not really letting her just be herself, which is a major pet peeve of Fi. In addition, it’s no secret that Yosano is quite sadistic at times and while Fe users can be, it would be much harder (particularly if it’s higher in the stack or more developed) since we’d feel their own pain automatically. Fi does take a more intellectual approach to understanding others and can distance itself in that respect. She isn’t afraid to cause physical pain when angry -- and being so physical may be a way to identify Se in a stack. Yosano is also quite calm and composed, which could come from Fi’s wish to keep its emotions more private. However, she’s confident enough to speak about her deepest values and defend them relentlessly. I actually thought she could be ESTP, but an Fi blind spot doesn’t fit her AT ALL.
Yosano prides herself on being a doctor through her Te skill and hates being belittled for it about as much as she hates being put down for being a woman. Once again, I don’t have much to back this up at the moment and it’s more process of elimination. (This could be a reason she may be typed as an xxTx, though, since her thinking function is extraverted.)
Yosano’s Ni comes out through her explanation of death to Kajii (“What's death, you ask? Let me tell you, death is the loss of life. No matter how hard we doctors try, our patient's live just slip through our fingers.”) with a hint of Fi and filtered through Se. After her loop had stopped and her Fi was overwhelmed, that’s when Yosano broke down in a way and retreated to inferior Ni, which Ranpo found her stewing in. By giving her the agency and a position as a doctor there where her Fi wouldn’t be as abused, her Ni was satisfied and able to grow. From there, Yosano’s other functions were able to heal.
Ti Blind Spot: {LATER}
Se-Te Loop: ‘An ESFP in an Se-Te loop becomes overly concerned with “doing” all of the time, unable to let themselves stop to take a break. They become forceful, aggressive, insistent upon taking action whether or not it hurts those around them or fulfills their inner sense of duty. They dismiss their necessary stage of stopping to reflect on whether their choices are in line with their values, instead shutting off this voice and focusing on outward manifestations of logic and planning.’ source This is shown pretty accurately throughout her war experience and being under Mori’s influence.

Hey, could you please type the Schitt’s Creek characters if you know the show?
Congrats anon you have found one of the precious few shows I actually could type.
David is probably an ISFP 4- not bad with people when he puts in a little effort but generally introverted, excellent aesthetic sense, very focused on identity and uniqueness. ISFPs in their 30s I’ve known tend to be functional if not stellar when it comes to managing since they’re thoughtful and observant enough to handle it, but he relies a lot on…
Patrick, who I think is an especially laid back ESTJ (I can’t figure out his enneagram, unless he’s the rare ESTJ 9? Some IxTJ 9s have talked about their experience so like, maybe 9 and Te don’t clash quite as much as I’d thought). He excels in management and likes working with details and regulations, he’s organized, but he took a long time to figure out who he was and what he likes and he’s not really go-with-the-flow despite often being laid back. I also don’t ever type solely on a dry sense of humor, but if there’s a lot of other SJ qualities it’s certainly a factor.
Alexis: people tend to go straight to ESFP for party girls but I think it makes sense in a more complex way for Alexis. Her anecdotes indicate she is pretty flexible, spontaneous, and catches on to new skills quickly, like a high Se user; she seems a little too oblivious to certain social hints to quite be an Fe dom and she’s definitely an extrovert, but she’s a great PR person who can think on the fly. Her arc also fits nicely with someone starting to develop Te and Ni and figure out what she wants.
Stevie is like the exact archetype of an ISTP. She dresses like she’s in an ISTP aesthetic, and we see the downside that sometimes happens with aux Se users which is that someone can become sort of resigned and go with the flow without actually taking any control of it. She’s started to do that, but she’s a little bit scattered. She’s analytical, likes to do things as easily as possible and looks for loopholes, and she cares what people think of her but she’s both withdrawn and abrasive.
Johnny is kind of difficult and I think, despite the stereotypes, he might be an ESFJ and not an ESTJ. He seems to have built his success more on charisma and people skills rather a more classic business model and he sometimes takes a generally caring but one-size-fits-all approach (note Johnny vs. David in how they interact with Stevie - as David becomes close to her his interactions with her are very personalized, whereas Johnny is often a little off the mark, but with good intentions). Some of his plans are just for lack of a better way to put it missing the sort of structure I’d expect from a Te user, and not in a way that is in line with intuition (ie, it’s not a big-picture ENTJ needing help with details, it’s that the plan doesn’t really logically hold together).
Moira is also tough. Definitely intuitive - it’s all about what could be and her vision - and definitely a feeler. I think she’s more an ENFJ, in that of the family she’s been the one who has struggled the most to adjust and who’s clung to the vision of reviving her career and breaking out of the town. She doesn’t have the adaptability I’d expect from an ENFP.
I’m not sure about Ted - I like him, but he’s a little more heightened and quirky than many of the other main characters, and liking puns is not, as people sometimes argue, a defining characteristic of any type. He’s an emotionally honest guy but sometimes a little clueless, but also fairly responsible - I’m wondering if he’s like, a much more normal ENFJ? People with thoughts on Ted feel free to weigh in, I’d need to do some rewatching to get his type.
Jocelyn has the combination of patience and manic passive aggressive of an ISFJ surrounded by some very trying people. Roland is also sort of cartoonish and a little hard to type; I’m thinking he’s an ENTP dealing with a particularly bizarre logical system because like, his logic is often coherent but based off of absolutely nowhere premises and he has a lot of ideas he doesn’t really follow through on.

how i settled on Se-dom
i guess it’s been settled for about a year at this point but i’ve shrugged off asks about it just ‘cause i’ve been so busy
sooo.... Se-dom. let’s start by backtracking.
it started with taking a good look in the mirror. i was very convinced i was an isfp for a long time. for what it’s worth, the UCLA Cognitive Quiz still pegs me as an Fi-dom; and in contrast, the official MBTI test has me as an ISTP.
the official test uses different markers than the actual cognitive functions, which is why i’ve reasoned that it’s okay to have two different results; they just don’t measure the same things. is the truth more important than feelings? yes, i highly agree with that statement. on the actual tests, that’s a “thinking” answer.
with Jung n such, that’s a value statement. do you value the truth more than feelings? that could easily be pegged down to Fi. or anything I guess; it’s kind of a garbage question and I know plenty of Fe-users that will proclaim truth is fundamentally important.
moving on.
let’s start with Se. imo, Se-dom is obvious to me. I have an absurd amount of physical energy, and i’m very concrete. i am a wildlife rehabilitator and biologist; i need interaction with my external environment. i don’t miss people during lockdown but i miss doing  things. i’m not going skating. i’m not going rock climbing. i got sick and my lungs got messed up so now i can’t even go jogging. i play guitar, i paint, and i play soccer with my dog and it’s still not enough.
i’m the sort of person that needs to be scaling walls. my clumsy moments are dramatic and funny because i’m trying things other people don’t dare to. i am confident in my environment, i am a  tremendous opportunist, i gamble career opportunities and ‘play the game’ (se-ni) and push my limits to see how far i can get.
i’m very concrete. any interest i have in a career is a derivation of my interest in my physical environment, hence my env sci degree and working towards vet school (low-Ni -- it took me ages to reach this point). i may not be a daredevil exactly - i roll my eyes at dudes w/ crotch rockets and racecars - but i do regularly work with animals that can injure me. like, bats, birds of prey; i’ve even worked with wolves and grizzlies.
my si-dom father balks at me and tells me to slow down. my isfp mother is similar to me, but really takes her time in the moment; it can take her 20 minutes to take one photograph; she is much more tied to her vision (tert-ni) and perfecting it to capture the object of her emotions than i am - the epitome of impatience.
in contrast, i have grappled with differentiating Fi and Ti in myself for literal years.
i’ve been told that my writing style and arguing style comes off as very Ti. but my speaking arguments are different; filled with ‘prove it’ statements; my ISFP mother claims I argue like my ISTJ father, and in person my arguments are very emotional. i once had an academic advisor tell me she thought i’d be ‘great fun at parties, but do i really see myself  as a scientist?’
for a while i bought into the esfp and estp stereotypes. they’re shitty.
more than anything, i get hung up on the definitions of fi and ti. i’ve been a vegetarian for ten years. i’m driven into my field based on my sense of right and wrong. i thought fi made perfect sense. but at the same time, i related with low-fe. i hate the expectations on women placed by society. i can’t help but recognize that i am different than the expectation. i relate to mulan, who struggles to conform to what her family and parents and society want her to be. but i also really relate to arya stark, who  did care what her family thinks - but not about anybody else, really, and is arguably more emotionally impulsive. i’m unusually, outwardly emotional under stress; but also very controlling and snappy.
someone noted - i think mbtinotes? -  that Ti does have moral principles they create based on a system of logic the user has created and adhered themselves to? or is it based on my own inner sense of right and wrong?
based on mbtinotes’ definitions, tert-fe fits better. based on funkymbti, tert-te fits better. and you couldn’t pay me to sit there and read through all of Jung and decide.
and that’s where i get hung up. i don’t normally delve into the theoretical and i’m not very interested in it.
but that’s the hold-up. that’s the X’s in my profile.
the best point someone made to me years ago was, ‘hey, i think you’re either an estp or an esfp; when the thinking and feeling functions are closer together in your stack, that’s when you’ll have trouble telling them apart.’
if i had to guess, though - i think i’m probably an esfp.

Elsword – Eve: INTJ / About Add
Code: Empress.
Introverted Intuition (Ni): Eve’s entire focus is on creating her ideal kingdom, not being content to live with the flaws of the existing one. She knows exactly what she wants to accomplish, and takes actions specifically for this purpose.
Extroverted Thinking (Te): Eve views her ideal kingdom as an achievable goal, not a fanciful dream. She works hard in creating her kingdom, even to the point of building a new Nasod servant to assist her and Oberon in battle. Eve always speaks directly, even when she offends people (In the Time Trouble Vol. 7).
Introverted Feeling (Fi): Eve hides her feelings, tends to be rather reserved about most of her life. Eve doesn’t naturally understand other people’s feelings and can’t cope. At the same time, her principles and feelings are the primary motivations behind everything she does. She is opinionated and always does what she believes to be most authentically right and true to herself, no matter the immediate cost.
Extroverted Sensing (Se): Eve’s showcase her taste for aesthetics in many ways; Eve's fighting style is elegant. Her servants are named after characters from Shakespearean plays. Her Nasod servant tend to be beautiful in appearance. Eve also wants to look her best herself; her clothing is stylish, and her hair, particularly neat, has an elegance to it. Moreover, Eve’s good at handling technology, she takes photos too realistically (El★Star Profiles- Eve).
Eve notices details in her environment that need to be pointed out to other companions at El Search Party.
Beyond her exceptional focus, Eve takes the time to enjoy the beauty in her surroundings ("It is good to see diverse places and add various creatures to the database. …Though it is tiresome to fight anywhere I go… yeah…" and "A lake… it's been a long time that I am seeing a lake again. …I don't know anything about emotions but looking at a lake, I feel that my overheated circuits are being cooled."). She doesn’t dwell extensively on the past.
Code: Nemesis.
Eve was a future, big-picture oriented person. Her focus was to revive the Nasod civilization, and did not allow anything to remove her from that path. (Ni)
Eve’s primary focus is on getting things done, and easily puts aside her emotions in order to make decisions. She doesn’t stop her plan to revive the Nasod civilization. (Te)
Eve’s internal principles are firmly laid out and she does not violate them to please others. She does what she feels is right, regardless of what Add tells her. She assumes an awkward poker face. She suppressed her emotion. At the same time, we can’t deny that she is extremely emotional. She has very few friends, but she would do anything for them, even sacrifice her life so that they could live. In the Time Trouble, the main way that Eve worried about Add is not through words, but by giving his a lemonade. (Fi)
[“I won’t go.” “You’ll only get attacked by demons if you remain in this time. Do you think I’m lying?” “Even if it’s true I won’t go.” Eve refused outright. She ignored the now stunned Add as she spoke coldly. “I have the mission to revive the Nasod civilization. I have no intention of stopping my search for El, or to travel to a different timeline.” “…..What about the demons that will attack you?” “Even if what you’re talking about is true. I don’t think it’s something that can be solved by running away. I must face them head on like Nasods should.” Add’s heart burned up because he knew all too well the result of what she just said. He just gave her all the information he had. He was even prepared to get treated like a crazy person. Despite all this effort Eve didn’t waver. Even if she believed Add’s words her decision wouldn’t change. Her course of action was firm. “…..Are you sure it’s not because you can’t leave Elsword?” “I don’t know why you’d bring up his name here.” ]
She understand her own emotions on a level that allows she to both put a name to them and to pin point exactly what she’s feeling, whereas an Fe user doesn’t always recognize immediately what they are feeling (or why they are feeling it). That’ s the difference between Eve (Fi user) and Add (Fe user). Check the Epic EP.41-42 Master Road Story Quest - Add & Eve (Bringer and Esencia)
Eve: Sigh... I already told Adrian I'm leaving. You don't have to overreact.
Add: O-over react? When did I?!
I read the Time Trouble Vol. 6-7 Code: Empress's passage.
[Add changed the topic when the atmosphere inside the tent turned cold all of a sudden. “So why are you and Rena so wary of Lu? Although Lu is a demon she’s…..” “Isn’t it stranger to trust her?” Eve spoke sharply. “This case is different than Chung and Ara. Ara had her relative become a demon and Chung understood this. But Lu and Ciel are demon and her servant. Don’t you think it’s too much of an excessive request to ask someone who lost their own kind to demons to accept those two?” Add couldn’t answer because Eve’s response was very heated. “Demons destroyed the key to resurrecting the Nasod civilization. It was a really horrible event…. But I was alone in the first place anyways. But Rena is different.” “…….” “Demons brutally slaughtered Rena’s people. Asking her to trust and accept demons as comrades doesn’t make sense.” Eve continued speaking with an unusually passionate tone. She realized Add was only listening to her and lowered her voice a bit. “…..I don’t know much about people’s emotions and can’t understand them. But I think that Rena’s reaction is natural.”]
She's an INTJ with an extremely well developed Fi, and she doesn't feel their emotions the way an Fe user would. Her Ni lets she know intuitively what’s going on behind the lines and then she's able to logically put together what someone is feeling by using Te. She can understand, but she cannot empathize unless she has shared experience.
[“I won’t say that I know how you feel. I don’t know about emotions anyways. But what will you say to Elesis if you kill Lu like this?” / “Lu, what do you think you’re doing by provoking Rena? There shouldn’t be anything good for you even if you win or lose here.”] When it comes to arguments, the INTJ will more likely try to convince you using logical appeals, whereas the INFJ will use emotional appeals.
She’s also pretty cutting with her mode of speech, which isn’t necessary for Te, but it’s definitely more common in Te than Ti. Te prefers direct, blunt speech, while Ti is more concerned with exactness. The difference is subtle, but there.
Auxiliary Te: Eve was a planner. As soon as she knew what she wanted, there was a plan in place to fulfill that desire. Eve wasn’t particularly interested in kiss or anything even distantly hormonal. She was preferred to speak and type in logic, rather than feelings. Eve was consistent in her habits, blunt and honest in her speech.
Tertiary Fi: Despite the fact that Eve was extremely logical, she was deeply motivated by her feelings. She cares about Ara and Elsword. Eve will fully support Add in defeating D and returning to his universe. She had a strong sense of morality and didn’t trust Lu (a demon).
Elsword:El Lady
“Elsword. How can you trust those words without any proof?”
She thinks that Add needs to prove his words with actual evidence (Te).
*
To inexperienced typers who think Eve is an INFJ, please understanding sympathetic INTJs and stop stereotyping everyone. Thanks. An Fi is always less comfortable expressing his/her emotions than an Fe. Esencia is easier to mistake as INFJ because she was a warm and loving queen and she is the only Eve to be depicted expressing emotion in her artwork. (Mature INTJs do not hide from their feelings. They face them without allowing the feelings to control them.) Generally, you don’t see this in a stereotypical INTJ girl, but you do see it in INFJ girls. Eve trust in 'friendship' and 'belief' from her friends, she develops a need for companionship, a connect with people on an emotional level and a deep selflessness. Has Esencia become an INFJ? Absolutely not. She may contemplate the same things an INFJ would, but she processes the information using NiTe logic, not NiTi logic. She may reach the same conclusions an INFJ would, but reaches conclusions the way an INTJ would. Esencia is an INTJ with the perspective of an INFJ. She still processes INTJ style. An INTJ with a well developed Fi will care deeply about how his/her actions and words affect other people.
“...I want... as many of my people to wake up... and live freely without being used by anyone.”
At length.
Personality can change drastically as a result of trauma. It happens subconsciously, in a part of our minds that we have little control over. However, I don’t believe it’s possible to consciously change your personality.
Ultimate-Esencia-Sariel They haven’t changed personalities.
To be honest, Esencia strikes me as an extremely mature INTJ who has learned how to be emotional.
-
Add:
An ENTP who is depressed will very much likely either appear as though absolutely nothing is wrong, or will retreat into either an Ti/Si loop, or their shadow functions (INTJ).
Life experience often changes perspective without altering cognitive function.
He hasn't changed personality at all. By the end Dominator (initially ENTP) behaves more like an INTJ –he thinks about things that are more natural to INTJs, but his mode of thought still functions like an ENTP.
He hasn't changed thought processing style (personality type); he's changed perspective.

Why INTJs are great
We can read a lot of good and bad things about INTJs. We can read that they are smart, ambitious, driven bla bla, we can also see some people saying they are just damn arrogant, completely uncaring, zero empathy, superiority complex etc. I understand that people are different within one type and we cannot classify them as everyone is different and yes sure, I agree, but INTJs, still share certain traits and I am going to talk about them in this post, so bear with me and I will try to explain why I think they are great.
So I am first going to break it down with functions, so as you maybe already now, INTJs have Ni, Te, Fi, Se and then Ne, Ti, Fe, Si.
Let’s start from extroverted functions, because this is how INTJs give first impression. So yeah, not sure how to start really, damn, but. Se. Their inferior Se makes them very careful with what experience they are giving to you because they want you to be loyal for them. Sometimes they think their effort is not appreciated and that really makes them feel bad, like they let someone down? I had that colleague, he would be telling me ‘sorry for that experience’ whereas for me it was all cool and at first I couldn’t get why he is even sorry. I mean, I see when people are trying to do something nice, even if something isn’t super perfect because for example we missed a bus or something. I mean, that doesn’t even matter. If someone doesn’t appreciate your effort then that someone is not right fr you. INTJs, I think, they very much don’t want to draw attention to themselves in some social event or situation with people they don’t know well, my colleague would let me do stuff in public with people, but I don’t mind even, just that it seems INTJs are afraid about how they are perceived. But they can give you so thoughtful gifts, out of nothing really. They will bring you food and something sweet, if they like you, they will invite you to places, will do things that you want to do. And once I realized that it is their insecurity, what experience they are giving, I was so amazed that they still are able to make them be better and better at this, and that all is for others actually. For me that was always very special. I am using past tense, because I actually refer mostly (but not only) to a particular INTJ in my life who is no longer my friend. So yeah, Se. I think being insecure makes them be less affectionate and let’s say assertive daily on how they feel and what they need, but that may be in general about everyone, we have to learn assertiveness. For me that inferior Se is beautiful, I don’t know. It is like willing to give but at the same time being scared, not sure about how that will be received so they don’t want to do that much, or want to, but not to everyone, yeah, that is better. Of course, Se is also appearance bla bla, but I don’t care that much, let’s say, but yeah INTJs are usually pretty hot I must say. Okay I am done with Se.
Now Te. So Te is I think what is just most easily visible in INTJ. This is a parent function. They want to parent others with their logic and objectiveness. At first I found myself drawn to that, I like decisive people, that can be also annoying though, it is like, stop treating me like a child, gosh. But then you realize that INTJ has actually some point, but that doesn’t make me follow it necessarily, but sometimes I kind of need it, because I myself have troubles seeing things objectively maybe... And Te actually gets stuff done, and Te is driven. You know you can rely that Te user will not only talk with you but also will be able to give you an objective advice and take some necessary action for you. It can sound harsh for some, but actually sometimes harsh is good, if it is constructive. My Te is lower in function stuck so I kind of don’t handle well when others give me orders and just cold logic, so at work it is sometimes quite annoying, but in private life I really appreciate it. My brother is ISTJ and I love his Te too.
Yeah let’s go now to Ni. So Ni is a hero, first function for INTJ. Yeah.. something mysterious, screaming: nobody understand me, bla bla. For me I would just describe it as something very deep, but deep in this personal way. And oh I know, it is like bullshit detector. For INTJ it is with objectivity, for INFJ it is with people, detecting lies etc. INTJ are often very spiritual people, trying to be at peace with themselves, liking deep and meaningful conversations.. And again bla bla because I think that more than that they just want to be understood and that they have someone to whom they can say their things. I use Ne so I kind of search for different ideas and they are many but not well thought out and so with other Ne users it is sometimes like just jumping from one to another and it is not that in depth and less with subjective insights. INTJ will give you his insights. I think this is why Ne likes Ni and vice versa. Ne wants to share and talk about it, Ni wants to digest and give his insight. Ni is rather skeptical in INTJ (like Ti in INTP with logic, here Ni with ideas) so Ni wants to know whether the new concept is really good to be included to their framework. Ne users just enjoy ideas, they can talk about them for the sake of talking and that makes them energized. All right, maybe not for the sake of talking, they love ideas, but they treat them more superficially than Ni users. Ni will always win with Ne. Like any introverted function with extroverted one.
Fi as a tertiary function is my favorite one. They are so protective of their feelings and often just want to appear cold (their Te) but in reality they are super sensitive, loving and caring. They are just not good with expressing it verbally (Fe blind spot) which causes them I think lots of trouble, which eh which is so bad because people often confuse their exterior ‘coldness’ for being heartless which definitely isn’t true. With their Ni they can have so profound actually understanding of the human nature and be empathetic, I see it with my INTJs. They will feel what the character in the movie feels if they can somehow relate and they have strong opinions on what is right and wrong. That Fi is so cute, as this is a child function, it is very innocent. That my INTJ ex friend would be caring to not cross the street at the right traffic light not because he doesn’t want to break the rule, but because at that particular time some kid was on the other side and by crossing the street, he would teach the kid the wrong thing. That is, well, just Fi child, wow. Generally that Fi with Ni makes INTJ look for me like a cute, black cat. My brother with child Fi is similar. He is so innocent, really, for example, my brother has a friend who got his girlfriend pregnant and they got married because of that. They were kids, like 22 years old or something. They aren’t happy now, he is very rude to her and in general treats her badly, doesn’t want to work, doesn’t care about that baby (it is like 2 - 3 years after marriage). My brother saw them arguing, tried to talk to his friend, but nothing. And then my brother confesses to me, in text of course, that he feels so bad because he saw him not being totally fair towards her before marriage, like flirting with girls and well, he called that cheating, but I am not sure what that meant. And he felt bad because he didn’t say anything and now that girl is with him and is unhappy. Eh. That my INTJ friend would feel bad for example if he made joke about someone that could be actually in some way offensive which hah I don’t really think so... It is funny how Fe tricks them. They don’t realize when they hurt, but when they don’t, they actually feel bad about that thing.
They are super into self development and really want someone to grow with and just be together and feel safe with and spoil maybe sometimes together a bit. They like to help you. They are thoughtful. They are sensitive. They care about this world. They are yet very misunderstood and I can imagine it can be lonely for them due to Fe trickster and Se inferior.
Now if you are still here I want to say what you can work on, yeah I did that on purpose, dragged you here :D.
Well, I would really like if INTJ worked a bit with their Fe, I mean, to be more open to suggestions that others may be giving to them. It seems to me that they are very reluctant but sometimes people just want to help you. I found that if I rationalize why it is good about Fe more and what INTJ can do, with reasons, then INTJ can actually take it. People need people, really. INTJ would say: fuck people and society and then wonder why they are lonely. They would complain about how people are dumb, how narrow minded, how spoiled and whatever else but some knowledge about people is unfortunately necessary in life, and some feeler can help you with that, like you help with many other things. So it is to say to be just open more to suggestions about that and not feel offended. You will see the law of attraction will bring you benefits in the sphere of relationships with people, what you give, you will receive. Give kindness, and you will receive kindness. Give understanding and you will receive understanding, even if not from the same person you offered it to.
I really love INTJs and wish them best, you will be understood and appreciated if you are not yet, I am sure, I mean, because you are awesome, right?

Wow your MBTI typings are really impressive! You’ve managed to convince me on every one of your typings so far, with one exception. Have you considered ENFJ for Nunnally? This might get long, I apologize. Let’s tackle NeSi first. I definitely agree that she is an intuitive, but I don’t see the out of the box creative thinking that you get with say, Milly. Rather, she has a single vision, “a kind world” which is more of a Ni thing. 1/?
Continued: I agree that Si really isn’t evident. But I would argue she compensates for being blind and crippled by developing Se in the other senses. She has excellent hearing, sense of smell and a near magical ability to sense emotion by touch. In terms of Fe vs Fi, values conforming to society is more of a Si thing, I find. But she is extraordinarily people and relationship focused. She wants the people in her life (Lelouch, Suzaku, etc.) to get along.
Remember how Lelouch said Nunnally’s smile is for other people’s sake? That’s a very Fe kind of “hiding your own feelings to ensure harmony” thing to do. Ni is subordinate to Fe, in that the point of having a kind world is so people can live together peacefully. She only brings it up because Lelouch asks. She sincerely believes it but it’s not her top priority compared to living with her brother, and she told him as much at the end.
As for extroversion, again her disability and position do restrict her social life. She does make friends very easily and is shown to enjoy social interaction. As well, she doesn’t want to be a burden socially on the student council, which again shows other people’s needs > her needs. Lastly, objecting to a coldly rational way of doing things is more inferior Ti. She rejects it precisely because spending time in her inferior function is uncomfortable. 4/4 Thanks for reading
Tumblr media
Great question, anon, and a good opportunity to bring up Fe vs Fi! Both functions have a moral and human focus, but in quite different ways.
Fe is an extroverted judging function, hence, having an outward focus makes it a lot more rational in its approach to morals (sometimes in fact being very similar to Te in that aspect). The main thing that separates Fe from Fi, is that the morals of a high Fe-user always exist as a reaction to the values of their respective society (society in this case is quite a broad term that can imply both society as a whole as well as one’s social group of close friends, depending on the person): they always exist on a scale from agreeing to disagreeing with them and hence are often concerned with values that affect this given society. A Fe-dom in particular also perceives themselves through the role they play in their society. Take Shirley as an example: the relationships she is in are very much the main component of her life and the one that she has standards for. She cares about Lelouch’s physical and emotional well-being and her relationship with him, but she doesn’t really try to understand him as a person until R2 comes along.
Comparing that to Fi, the values supported by this function originate independently from societal values (again remember that “society” is talking pretty broad here) and rely on the Fi-dom’s personal experiences and the conclusions drawn from these experiences. This doesn’t mean that a Fi-user cannot agree or disagree with societal values, but the focus of Fi morals is a personal and human one, focusing much more on what people believe than what they do and often prefers not to be restricted by social systems in favor of human values that are much more subjective to the user.
We see that Nunnally’s values originated independently from any society she could have been a part of: they don’t come from either Lelouch or Suzaku, nor did they originate as a reaction to Britannia’s value system. She finds racism towards the Japanese to be unethical of course, but she’s much more prone to judging people on a case-by-case basis, which also explains why she is willing to fight Lelouch and Suzaku at the end of R2: not only have they personally deceived her, but in her eyes they also have abandoned their personal morals to achieve theirs goals. Her Fi is also why her final challenge for Lelouch is giving him a choice to use Geass on her - it’s a test of Lelouch as a person, as if she’s asking “Have you, my brother, fallen so low as a human being that you would enslave and use me, your sister, whom you knew for your whole life? The brother I know would never even think about doing such a thing.” It also helps her understand what Lelouch was actually trying to do at the end of the story and ultimately forgive him (the same goes for Euphy, Nunnally just recognizes that her actions didn’t fit her nature without even needing evidence for it). To a Fe-don in her position this kind of opinion would likely seem biased and unfair, based on what Lelouch did ass opposed to who he was as a person.
You also bring up the possibility of auxiliary Ni, however we have to remember that it is quite different from Ni as a dominant function: for an ENFJ Ni is used to think of ways to improve upon the current state of the society important to them, questioning the parts of it that may seem flawed to the user. We see that Nunnally doesn’t tend to go through this process, for her, she knows how she believes people should treat each other based on her Fi values, once they do society will essentially fix itself due to the nature of human kindness (from her perspective). We do see her use her Ne however to understand which part of her Fi is realistically applicable to the world around her: when addressing the Japanese people she’s trying to appeal to their personal human values, yes, but her Ne also helps her understand that after the ways in which they’ve been hurt they will need a lot of convincing before they agree to anything, hence why she also uses highly personal gestures to make the Japanese trust her.
(I would also quickly like to note, that behavior is not really type-dependent, but rather thinking is, hence many stereotypical MBTI behaviors such as being shy/outgoing or easily making friends can often be a trait of a member of any type)
I hope that this answered your question, but in case you’ll need more comparisons, I can assure you that more Fe-doms and Fi-doms are to come in the future as a frame of reference. In the meantime, I hope you enjoy my slow output of content!

Do you have any mbti ideas for AD characters?
Hey! Well, I have been thinking about it and I have some ideas lol. They’re a bit hard to figure out because, after all, it’s arrested development, meaning they haven’t really grown up, which makes seeing their cognitive functions harder to figure out. Someone did typings on funkymbti, but I don’t agree with all of them 100%, but I’m no expert. But, again, I wouldn’t mind taking a swing at it. My personal rundown, with explanations under the cut, is:
Gob - ESTP (this is the one I am the MOST confident on)
Michael - ESTJ
Lindsay - ENFP
Buster - ISFJ
George Michael - ISFJ
Maeby - ISTP
Lucille - ESTJ
Tobias - ENFP
George - ENTJ
Tony (mostly speculative) - INFJ
Gob - definitely an ESTP. Like, holy shit, he’s a stereotypical ESTP. A stereotypical ESTP is the partier, the jock, the popular kid. He’s totally in a Se-Fe (Extroverted Sensing-Extroverted Feeling) loop most of the time; basically his manic stages because, yes, I have to fit in the bipolar Gob theory whenever possible. Anyways, he seeks adventure and sex and drugs and alcohol and is somehow magically ALIVE, so he either has no limits or knows his limits, making me believe his Se is high. Fe explains his ability to charm people, as Mitch described him as someone who doesn’t even realize he’s being charming. To quote mbti notes, “Tertiary Fe often makes a person seem sociable or charming, which can easily be mistaken as Fe dominant. However, tertiary Fe often has a calculating underside, more likely to treat people instrumentally as tools/objects for self-centered gain (due to higher Ti). Tertiary Fe is more likely to produce relationship failure and social discord (than dominant Fe).” He’s able to observe the environment around him and come to conclusions from time to time, showing his SeNi, like putting together that his mom had been driving Michael in “My Mother the Car”. I said he loops in Se-Fe because his logic (Ti) is very much absent like...constantly. His logic is very abstract and not based in facts like Michael (a total Te user) is. Inferior Ni also explains his need to stick to being a magician despite his total failure at it; lots of tunnel vision can happen with Ni. So, yes, I’d say ESTP.
Michael - This person said ISTJ, but I lean more towards ESTJ, if only for the fact that he’s not nearly as introverted/independent as he likes to believe (he needs the family as much as they need him) and the fact that it means he’d have inferior Fi (Introverted Feeling), explaining his “robotic” nature. Fi also explains why he has his own set of morals that, quite often, go against his family’s. It also definitely explains why he thinks he’s more moralistic than his family but really isn’t; the lower something is in your stack, the weaker it is, but you still might think you’re good at it. The Te-dom nature makes him very driven by facts and logic, and having Te-Ne makes him come up with dry, snarky comebacks. SJs have a rep for normally being pretty traditional due to Si, which isn’t always true, but it works in Michael’s case. I think a lot of his s4 behaviors are signs of inferior Fi/being in a Fi grip versus inferior Ne/being in a Ne grip. To quote mbti notes’ spotting guide on inferior Fi, “Their failures usually involve: being too aggressive and then getting severe pushback, taking on too much then suffering exhaustion, or being so focused on bottom line efficiency/results that they neglect other important things.” ESTJ.
Lindsay - She’s definitely an Fi user; she has her own morals and ethics that aren’t decided by her family, so she’s an FP or TJ. They said ESFP, but I might honestly lean more towards an ENFP. When she’s stressed out, she goes back to Tobias, and in s5a, they have her leave to find her “real” family, which indicates an inferior Si to me. But when she’s less stressed, she’s able to change her life around quite easily. She changes her focus a lot, including what size of a cause she’s on, and she’s very adaptable, normally a high Ne trait. And Lindsay having the same functions as Michael but in a different order really helps explain why they tend to get along well, I think. ENFP.
Buster - Buster is a hard one, god. He’s been robbed of so much of his adulthood that it’s hard to figure out his cognitive functions. Stereotypically, I think he fits as an ISFJ (Si-Fe-Ti-Ne). Si-doms are stereotyped as being very into routines, and Buster had trouble leaving his routines behind when Lucille was in jail. He craves approval of others, particularly his mom and his older siblings, which could indicate Fe, and higher Fe tends to make people warm and friendly, which is definitely a Buster trait. Through Ti he’s normally able to come up with some logical explanations, like figuring out Uncle Oscar is his dad, but he’s not too concerned with logic. His Ne is basically non-existent, since his growth has been so stunted. But, yeah, he likes things to stay the same and he’s a sweetheart, so I’d say ISFJ.
George Michael - Definitely an ISxJ, since when he’s stressed, he easily falls into the grip of Ne - spiraling anxiety. To, again, quote mbti notes, this time on inferior Ne, “Their failures usually involve: being too anxious or worried (catastrophizing), being overwhelmed by too much novelty or rapid change, or micromanaging situations (sometimes due to unwillingness to delegate).” I think I’d go with ISFJ because I think he has to have Fe in his stack; he’s very worried about keeping peace and harmony, and while Michael keeps the family together, GM is the one who actually wants the family to be together. Fe is often about togetherness. ISFJ.
Maeby - I definitely agree with the typing done on her as an ISTP. Her Ti-dom nature makes her very prone to being a bit rude and cynical, as well as independent and she can figure things out on her own. Inferior Fe pops up in her being unintentionally (or sometimes truly just intentionally) cool or rude to people around her. Hell, she purposefully tried to make GM feel bad for no reason. She’s definitely someone who lives in the moment (Se) and she’s able to get things to fall into place...most of the time. Definitely Se in her nature, so I could also see ESTP as well, but her Fe seems to be her biggest blind spot and she lashes out when she’s upset. And to quote mbti notes, “However, tertiary Ni often leads to very superficial judgment, more likely to carelessly dismiss deeper meaning or potential for growth (due to higher Se). Tertiary Ni is more likely to have a dejected or cynical attitude about what is possible in life (than dominant Ni).” Let’s not forget how she ended s4 by refusing to say she made a huge mistake. ISTP.
Lucille - another tough one. I’m sure most people would put her as an ENTJ since that’s normally considered “the mastermind”, but I don’t know. I’ve always said the child most like her is Michael, so I could definitely see ESTJ. Te-Ne would explain how she’s able to think so quickly on her feet, both in regards to lying to people and with her insults. She’s definitely set in her ways, a definite Si related trait. Her active blind spot is definitely her morals, much like Michael, but she’s a bit better at hiding it since she is older. ESTJ.
Tobias - I think the person who typed on funkymbti did a good job with ENFP. From the mbtinotes on dom Ne/inferior Si “Their failures usually involve: not being able to prioritize the best ideas to pursue/develop, carelessness with details that leads to failure, or feeling restricted such that they cannot access inspiration/hope for long periods.” Ne explains his willingness to give up the career that he had for decades as well as how he’s willing to change what kind of performing he does. I’d say FiTe works because he’s not necessarily into harmonizing and he’s definitely devoted to what he thinks is right to him, not necessarily what people tell him to do, since he has no problem pursuing an acting career despite everyone telling him it’s a dumb idea. ENFP.
George - Eh, I do my best not to think about him lol. I actually 100% agree with this person’s reading on him and would definitely say he’s an ENTJ. His family are chess pieces to him, he’s always scheming, very much a Te-Ni trait. His inferior Fi makes him pity himself when he’s stuck in a bad situation. Yeah, I’ll stick with ENTJ.
Tony - I’m not sure there’s really enough to work with for him at this point. I’m tempted to say INFJ, since that makes him Gob’s “mirror” type, meaning his has the functions in the opposite order of Gob (ESTP would be Se-Ti-Fe-Ni and INFJ is Ni-Fe-Ti-Se), and that’s supposed to make people a “perfect” match. But, since they’re same, maybe he’s an ESTP? Lol. Well, he definitely has a singular vision like a Ni-dom would, which is making it as a magician (contrasted to Gob’s inferior Ni that he always falls back on that one vision, Tony’s whole life is definitely magic). Again, from the mbti notes page, this time on inferior Se, “In low moments of weakness, they become very rash or extreme in behavior.” This could explain what we hope is just him faking his death (where are you s5b???). He claims he’s good at faking being gay and definitely has some manipulative, suave tendencies that could be an upper Fe trait. So, yeah, why not? INFJ.
I’ll also say the Steve Holt gives me ESFJ vibes (very sweet and warm, popular, goes with the flow, values family) and Ann Veal seems like an IxFP (guided by her own morals and ethics). I could definitely be wrong, though.

Mystic Messenger MBTI Types
These are just from my own observation. I could easily be wrong about some of these.
MC = Whatever you are (though going based on the dialogue options and the MC’s actions i’d say that the closest to canon is probably within the “feeling” type category since they seem to make decisions based on emotions as opposed to logic, to a lesser extent i’d maybe also consider them Intuitive - going based on dialogue within V and 707′s routes especially). So I *personally* view them as *NF*
Zen = ENFJ (really intuitive and is definitely a Fe user. I’d actually go as far as to say that Fe is his dominant function - which would also work in regards to his focus on self image)
Jumin = ISTP (I feel like he’s an ISTP personally and that people tend to type him as a “J” just because he’s a businessman. I’d definitely say his highest function is Ti, followed by Se)
Jaehee = Textbook ISTJ (I originally had thoughts of her perhaps being INTJ, but I am now convinced she’s an ISTJ)
Yoosung = ENFP (honestly i’m least sure about about this one - if not ENFP then i’d say INFP. Definitely a Fi user)
707/Luciel/Saeyoung = ENTP (probably the one most people will agree with)
V/Jihyun = ISFP (It sounds so stereotypical to label the artist of the group as ISFP but I honestly feel like he is).
Rika = ENFJ (Okay so i’m about 100% convinced that Rika is an *NFJ type. She also practically radiates Ni from what we see of her in V’s Route. I’ve also been debating for ages with myself on this because quite honestly, I can see her as both INFJ and ENFJ. The reason that i’m ultimately going for ENFJ though is because she reminds me a lot of the ENFJs that I know - albeit a very mentally ill one. She also seems far more people driven and charismatic than most INFJ’s usually are, and I also feel like ENFJs are more likely to successfully manipulate and charm wide ranges of people as well as being most likely to take on a teacher/leadership role and go off and try to physically manifest their ideas/visions to the world - but hey, if you consider her an INFJ instead, i’m least likely to disagree with you since she really does seem to skirt between the 2).
Vanderwood = ISTJ (I feel like I can’t make a proper typing of him since we only know the surface of his personality based on both 707 and V’s route. But from what we’ve seen of him i’d say that he is an ISTJ, maybe an ISTP. But he seems too organised and meticulous to be ISTP in my opinion)
Saeran/Ray/Unknown = INFP (to be honest i’m not entirely sure. I’m almost certain that he’s an I*FP though)
And that’s all of them! I didn’t bother with any of the side characters from the other routes since I wasn’t sure if anyone really cared about those characters.

Top 5 MBTI types! (as in types ya get on with best/find most interesting to read about)
Alrighty! Let’s see here...
1. Either ISFP or ESFP is one of my close friends’ types - we still haven’t figured out which (she’s busy with college and holidays too). Regardless, I do like interacting with some of the high Se people I know. They fascinate and amaze me with how they’re actually very calming to hangout with; contrary to the over-the-top stereotypes high-Se users get. They’re still willing to be daring and have fun, of course, but are mostly chill beyond belief!
The (likely) SFP close friend, for example, has this actual motto for herself, being a genuine “Oh well, that’s life!” A saying I would only use super sarcastically myself when frustrated. She deals waaaayyy more easily than I can if something goes wrong or out of control. Stuff can still stress her out like any other person, but that Se way of handling it from what I’ve noticed... It’s pretty darn admirable.
Basically, they’re WAY more flexible and care-free than I can ever be.
More related to ISFP/ESFP: I can be hit or miss with high (mostly dom) Fi people. Thankfully, I can still have close friends with high Fi! I just end up learning a LOT about how to handle them. Which is good anyways, honestly.
2. ENFPs or INFPs. Some of my other few close friends are of these types, most likely. They’re one of the few people I get along with the best, and I’ve known ‘em for over 8 years now. I didn’t quite hit off with the ENFP at first, especially since he also had his own issues with me when we had first become friends... But, we managed to overcome those obstacles. The (possible) INFP close friend is one I would consider a best friend of mine. I plan on looking more into typing her more thoroughly, though... Because lately I’ve been wondering if I understand her cognition correctly.
Another great friend may be INFP too, but I’m thinking of retyping him to be sure. I made these typings when I was still in the start of my learning with this system, and when I assumed myself an INTJ. :’D
3. INFJs. At least the one person I know who’s most certainly an INFJ. Despite our Te and Fe differences (and sometimes clashes), we get along really well!
It also proved helpful having an Ni-dom friend when I was in my own retyping process, because I started to realize I don’t lead with it as much as I had thought 1 - 2 years ago. Plus, I can notice the difference between Tert and Inf Se more clearly. That said, we still have the same perceiving functions, which makes for some interesting dynamics between us (especially with our opposite judging functions).
4. ISTP is a type I like reading about here-and-there, apparently. It’s likely the fact that high Se intrigues me, but Ti-Fe is one heck of a dynamic I try learning more about. It’s somewhat similar, yet drastically foreign to the way my Te-Fi works. I’m not sure if I know any Ti-doms personally (I’ve known some definite ExTPs), though I’ve met a couple of likely Ti-doms. And, sometimes Fi-doms can seem similar to Ti-doms if I’m not paying attention enough.
5. ESFJ; though I only have been good friends with one ESFJ. The ESFJ I had known was the purest person I met aside from my SFP friend I have today. She does have some bit of a disability, which makes social situations more rough for her, but I can still see she leads with strong Fe motivations and functionality.
This ESFJ wanted to make friends with everyone, and that included me when I was a fresh new 9th grader. However, back then, I feared making new friends due to seeming like a magnet to being bullied. Every. Single. School. Some of those bullies were people who were my “friends” at first.
And yet, this ESFJ was committed to get my to hangout with her or talk to her. Idk what she saw in me, and she did just like plain meeting new people, etc. But, her stubbornness in becoming my friend actually helped me overcome the bad state I was in. So, I thank her for that, and consider her a highly valuable person no matter if we’ve lacked contact these days.
We were pretty close as she became like a little sister to me too; and eventually when I saw her getting bullied while at that school with her, I made sure to keep those jerks in their place.
She was too kind for her own good and extremely opposite to me. But we got along just fine! I’d say she’s good enough reason to place an ESFJ in my list even if I’ve been close to only one person of the type (from what I’m aware of).
That’s my top 5 for MBTI types! Hopefully it didn’t go too long (let alone too sad-sounding/dragged-on in the end). Thank you for the ask!

Hello. My current understanding is that introverted functions can *appear* like extroverted functions, but that the motivations will always be different under the surface.
What do you think are the most common ways *introverted functions masquerades as their extroverted counterparts?
For example: I think Fi seeming Fe-like (keeping feelings to themself to sustain group harmony, choosing words they wouldn’t normally use to prevent upsetting people, extremely expressive facial expressions / body language, etc) in order to spread/express its internal values in a strategic way (Te) that appeals to people is common, but it’s more common the lower the Fi is in the stack because Fi-doms are less willing to change their approach to people only to fit their goal. Unless it is directly linked to their internal values, like being Fe-like as part of a “Be polite” moral code. But it could nag at all Fi users when using this tactic because they’d rather be true to themself than polite if the only reason people around want politeness is for the sake of status quo.
*I definitely am not demanding you to do all of them if that’s too much work, I’m mostly just hoping my logic tracks to an MBTI expert like you and that the analyzing would be fun o.o
I think it’s a good theory, but it might only apply to the judging functions, because they would be consciously aware of how they are coming across and trying to moderate those responses -- but even then, a Fi choosing to be peaceful and keep their mouth shut rather than disrupt social harmony (which happens a lot) is still going to have that ‘introverted’ sense of emotion going on and a factual-based Te approach which tends toward blunter tactics than a real Fe user. Real Fe users are generally skilled (if the function is high) at knowing how to appeal to different people using different tactics, but a Fi user can have trouble getting away from themselves to adapt in this way.
It’s kind of like... Peeta in the Hunger Games. I see him typed all over the place as ENFP which is flattering but doesn’t fit him at all. Peeta is extremely skilled at knowing what the audience wants and appealing to them -- on a Fe level. He has no real internal sense of ethics or sense of Self that prevents him from easily connecting to his interviewer and the audience, unlike the Fi using Katniss who is only passionate when she is truly engaged with something -- Peeta would ace the campaign that causes her so much trouble, because he could connect to the emotions of it without needing to be in an actual war zone, unlike Katniss. Her emotions are separate and conditional; his are connected and accessible.
A high Ti user can mirror Te in terms of “we need to get this project done. I need to finish this” productivity, but there’s always going to be the internal desire to make sure it is done right, according to their standards, and to have everything logically sound -- the “end result” (often looks like Te) is a need, but the internal inclination is to categorize, define, and comprehend. That’s why you can’t focus too much on outward behaviors; you just have to factor them into the greater whole of a person (or yourself) and ask about your motives for doing this and what your PREFERRED approach would be.
I suppose an SJ who is adventurous could superficially appear to be using Se, but they would still prefer detail-gathering and be somewhat cautious. All the Si types are more instinctively cautious than the Se types, simply because Si and Ne are not as grounded in the environment and therefore are more unsure of risk. (Si is subjective, which means separate from the sensory world and taking from it what appeals to it, and Ne is lofty and separate from the sensory world, in choosing an interpretation it likes best.) Ni could never look like Ne, because it’s desire to narrow down options to the best one is so strong, but Ne superficially could seem like Ni if they are working hard to narrow down possibilities. But the true function is always going to leak around the edges. :)

Oh yeah, I hear ya! I also have the burning need to have my ideas make sense in the real world 😭 It’s probably due to the fact that we’re Ni-Se users, so we want ideas to be practical and carry actual meaning and importance to them, not just ideas for the sake of ideas. I do envy INTPs for their Ne-Si since even if an idea seems random, it always seem to excite them and grant them the urge to continue exploring and dissecting it, even when it ultimately goes nowhere. I get tired easily during that type of process, but INTPs seem to be enthusiastic regarding it, and are experts at finding connections on things we tend to overlook.
And ooooh interesting! Your friendship with her sounds really nice. I’m sure it’s also the introverted intuition (INTJ) and extroverted intuition (ENFP) combo you two share that’s the main backbone on why your discussions are more idea-oriented rather than about mere gossip lmao.
Yeah, there always seems to be mixed feelings with all dynamics in MBTI. I believe that any type can be compatible with the other, it’s all about both parties wanting to be open and mature with one another. Maybe those ENFPs just met an unhealthy INTJ at some point of their lives and began hastily generalizing INTJs because of that 😭 Or they could be mistyping someone to be an INTJ. There are so many factors, but I generally see INTJ / ENFP in a positive light! There are so many fictional dynamics that have INTJ / ENFP friendships.
Yup, we are both Ni dominants and Se inferiors, which means we share similar strengths and similar weaknesses. Like, we share the need to predict the future constantly, but we neglect our need to “live in the moment” due to constantly overanalyzing what the future will hold ☠️
It’s cool to find an INTJ here on Tumblr! You guys are so rare 😂 Mostly the types I often see here are INFPs
sangwoo and gi-hun’s dynamic has got to be one of the most interesting INTJ vs ESFP rivalries I’ve witnessed in such a long time

Jungkook as an ISTP x Cognitive Functions
So, as BTS released MBTI test results with Festa 2017, I was going to go back on all of my analyses and re-think everything in order to make my impressions fit with what I was seeing. But then I realized they ranked the accuracy of their results, and that delighted me. Because oftentimes, the MBTI is taken in Korea in high school as a career aptitude test, which means the accuracy of the results is questionable. And, sometimes it is just really hard to get an accurate result taking MBTI tests, even if you try to answer the questions truthfully. Which is where cognitive functions come in (and, of course, exploring other type descriptions as well).
A lot of people who like MBTI don't know about cognitive functions, but they are basically what determines one's MBTI type. Here's a link to a good article about cognitive functions, which I will be using as a source for this post.
I'm a bit of a cognitive function rookie myself, so if I get something wrong please feel free to correct me. This series of posts will be based on cognitive functions. I might do some later posts just relating to their actual type descriptions. :)
I'm going to go with what most of the members said about their types; particularly, I think J-hope, Jin, and V seemed to feel that their types were quite accurate. Jimin seemed mostly satisfied, but I still think there is the possibility he is something else (but will comment later). HOWEVER, Rap Monster, Suga, and Jungkook's types need some more fleshing out. CLEARLY. And although Rap Monster gave his type 4 stars, that one 5th crying star was too much for my heart...I still think he's INFJ. So without further ado, let's talk about why Jungkook is not an INFP.
As an INFP, Jungkook's dominant function would be Fi. In a dominant position, Fi exhibits itself as a moral compass. An Fi user is highly preoccupied with how an action fits into their moral code, and will make decisions based on where that action finds itself in their sense of morality. My INFP brother has very strong feelings about his morals and judges everything by those morals. They don't have to match the system around him, but are instead his own unique set of ideals that influence all of his decisions. A caveat: Fi users usually know very well how they feel about something and are comfortable with theirs and others feelings.
His auxiliary function would be Ne. Ne is focused on the possibilities of a concept. Ne users will entertain all of the manifestations of an idea, no matter how crazy.
His tertiary function would be Si. Si is a nostalgic function. Si in the tertiary position is concerned with matching previous facts and experiences with current ones and making connections between those experiences. It manifests as nostalgia as well sometimes, or a longing for the past.
His weakest, inferior function, would be Te. Te is an executive, logical function. In its inferior position, Te manifests when the user is stressed out. And a stressed out, inferior Te looks like someone on a power trip. Lol, just kidding, but the frustrated Te user comes across as someone who cannot set in motion the plans they have, and feels inferior because of this. They fear others perceiving them as inferior, incompetent, or immature, and will lash out with "bossiness" and sensitivity to criticism of their decisions and executive abilities. *This is one reason why Rap Monster /could/ be an INFP, because he sometimes has these types of reactions to the other members when under pressure.
However, I don't believe Jungkook is INFP. My reasoning goes as such: we do not see Jungkook vocalizing his use of an internal, emotional, moral compass as an evaluation of his decisions. While he is often seen observing, his observations are made towards the physical that he is interacting with; he is intrigued by how things work. We don't see Jungkook getting nostalgic, either. Whether it is because he's so young, or because of his personality, he isn't often seen reflecting back on his earlier days like, say, Yoongi. Instead, Jungkook lives in the moment, a typical trait of SPs.
Finally, I refer to the "Hamburger Incident" and "Birthday Surprise" videos. Under both situations, Jungkook does not become aggressive. Instead, it feels more like taking pot-shots at a puppy...which is exactly what it is, based on his inferior function as an ISTP. He insists he brought hamburgers, he insists he didn't get the dance moves wrong, and then he retreats because he isn't able to insist on his point in the waves of his highly emotional response (which he is unable to control).
As an ISTP, Jungkook's dominant funnction would be Ti. In a dominant position, Ti presents itself as a fact-gathering, highly introverted function. Ti users can appear quiet and shy, and when presented with a new situation will sometimes hang back to take in all of the information they can about the situation before making an analysis of what they wish to do next. They are preoccupied with determining how all logical systems work and love to point out any inconsistencies in those systems. We can see Jungkook using his Ti in his cool, almost nonchalant reaction to most things occurring around him. He quietly takes in information and enjoys spotting the inconsistencies in others stories. He is assured of his assumptions regarding the world around him and this contributes to his "I got this" attitude in most situations which he can, or has already analyzed. Ti users tend to be independent thinkers who prefer making their own observations before determining whether or not something is as others say it is.
Auxiliary Se: Se is a physical function. Se in the auxiliary position is fascinated with the physical world and wishes to experience many enjoyable feelings, sensations, and emotions. They are preoccupied with the current moment and wish to live out as many exciting, exhilarating moments as possible. We can see this in Jungkook's affection for roller coasters, the banana boat ride, the paraglider, and just about anything that gets his adrenaline running. He is most at home in the moment. His introversion still rules, however; he cannot match up to Jimin's extroverted prowess on stage, despite his smooth dance moves in practice videos. His image leans toward the quiet, sexy one instead of the spotlight stealing heartbreaker. And he's comfortable with that.
As an ISTP, Jungkook's tertiary function would be Ni. Ni in the third position comes across as a kind of passion for perfectionism, which Jungkook shows us constantly. He is the golden maknae- he can do everything, and he prides himself in that. When his abilities are questioned, such as in the video where he is surprised for his birthday, he just works even harder, believing that there must be something wrong in his approach which can be improved upon. This is the essence of tertiary Ni. In fact, I think his second and third functions were easiest to pinpoint in this analysis. Lastly, an ISTP's inferior function is Fe. I'm going to quote the post above as I think they just nailed the inferior Fe description so well for this one: "As an inferior function, Fe originally manifests as the user being reluctant to dabble with or express emotional concerns, as the user cannot logically make sense of many of his or her own emotions and therefore doesn’t feel confident in moderating them. As Fe matures, its user will feel increasingly comfortable making and keeping emotional commitments to others, as they grow more confident in what is expected of them. The inferior-Fe monologue (prior to maturation): “Feelings make me freeze with anxiety because I don’t know how to moderate them. I am terrified of accidentally offending someone.” "
And this is Jungkook's feelings in a nutshell. His birthday surprise video sums it up well; although he is delighted to be surprised by the other members and staff, he is somewhat offended that his emotions were so easily toyed with. He doesn't enjoy showing emotional sides of himself, as he himself doesn't understand those emotions. He is also terrified of offending others as can be seen during the "Hamburger Incident". He becomes paralyzed by the fact that he might have unknowingly hurt or offended someone, all while being hurt and offended himself and perhaps not even realizing it. Others might assume that an ISTP is made of steel based on their cool, risk-taking, highly independent, sometimes impulsive personalities. But they are not. In more developed positions, Fe is the loving, people-pleasing, puppy-dog warmth of Jimin and J-hope. Those with inferior Fe can exhibit that too. But at Jungkook's age, they are usually terrified of showing that side of themselves, as they don't understand it. Though affectionate, Jungkook can come across as a bit cool and reserved to anyone other than his closest friends, which arguably are some of the other members of BTS. His moments of emotional breakdown are a result of either feeling comfortable showing those emotions in front of others, or being assaulted with a sudden onslaught of disapproval and criticism, which literally hits him in the feels. An Fi user, like an INFP, would be 1. more comfortable with this emotional response (instead of describing it as "annoying" as Jungkook did) and 2. would react rigidly to others criticism, perhaps even lashing out or becoming cynical. Jungkook simply collapses, and that's why I think he's an ISTP. A huge thanks to Heidi Priebe for her amazing article on cognitive functions, which introduced me to this lovely mess which is typing.
