Uhura was so fantastic in Uhura’s Song. Sharing the songs she knew with Sunfall, using her knowledge of songs and music to give Spock enough information that they were able to find a lost planet. Knowing enough of the Sivaoans’ old tongue to be able to smooth over their first contact & help the away team build rapport. Trying to bridge the gap between Spock and the others by meeting him partway, and then saving Jinx by asking that he talk to her, knowing that he’d be able to help her even though he’s not going to connect in an emotional way.

At the end of the book after they finish their quest Jinx gets to take a new name (the name Jinx was meant seriously), and decides to call herself Another StarFreedom after Uhura!!!!

I wanted to ask you about Hitchcock 😔 If you're willing to answer, which movies of his do you think are overrated and which do you think are actually good? He's my most watched director (because film school) but I only genuinely like a few of his films and always disagreed with my classmates about which ones were the best

I feel like I'm holding up a Daffy Duck style sign that says "shoot me" because Hitchcock is so well thought of by cinephiles versus me, the basic horny mod who watches movies with hot people in them. With that said, I remember Rope, Dial M for Murder, North by Northwest, and To Catch a Thief all left me a bit flat, because I felt like he was prioritizing pushing technical limits or creating extravagant images over deeper characters and relationships. I love a good technical limit-pushing, but it needs to serve the story! And sometimes I feel like he has an idea he wants to try or an image he wants to show and puts so much focus on developing it that characters' reality and interest kind of falls by the wayside—they become pawns navigating his situations, instead of interesting characters in their own right.

To be fair, this is more a characteristic of his later work than his early work—The Lady Vanishes is one of my favorite movies, and I remember Notorious and Spellbound both being enjoyable when I watched them a few years ago. Again, basic film watcher here. Don't show this post to the Criterion collection.

People who truly dislike Edwina Sharma are wild. Heaven forbid an 18 year old be charmed after being almost relentlessly pursued by an older man. I got a new sketchbook to practice drawing traditionally! I’ve been so used to digital art where it’s so easy to adjust everything that I feel like it’s actually making my anatomy more stiff?? I don’t know if that makes sense but I feel like I actually don’t know how to draw anatomy, I just know how to adjust it so it looks right? So I want to try drawing traditionally every day and see if it helps. I started with a headshot of Meredydd because that’s what I’m comfortable with, but I’m chickening out about coloring it because I love how the sketch looks 😭 Plus, I don’t know how my art supplies are going to react to this new paper and I’m afraid of ruining it. Traditional art is scary-

I think digital art really helped me improve my art skills to where I’m happy with my style, so I’m very pleased about that. Now it’s time to go back to the basics.

Any tips for traditional art would be very helpful, doesn’t matter what medium, (markers, pens, paint, etc.) I’m going to try it all. This sketchbook is for trying new things even if I’m scared to do it! 😂 🫣

Insane thing to say when she constantly has self-deprecating thoughts and has no issue acknowledging when she’s wrong in a situation. She acknowledges that she was wrong for pushing Nesta to tell her story to the High Lords, she acknowledges that she should have been more mindful when it came to Elain’s trauma and the blame shouldn’t all be on Nesta, and she acknowledges that she was a bit of an asshole to Lucien on solstice.

She even takes fault for things that were completely out of her control so again…how is she twisting the narrative to make herself seem always right when she doesn’t even believe she’s always right?
