Hey Phil, got a question I haven't seen answered (or I missed. Or I forgot about. Eh, you know) what are your favorite songs from each era?

Do you have any idea how difficult a question this is for me to answer? I wrote most of the songs in Opus Eponymous, several on Infestissumam, and a few on Meliora. I, uhhhhhh, consulted on Copia's albums, but most of the words were all, all his... Fuck, man. You would want me to rate my own work? To sit here and examine all the flaws a younger and more naieve ghoul made? To lament writing a bass riff that goes *bwamdwingdrrmdrrmbwah* instead of *bwambwingdrrdrrbwam*???

As for the Opus era, I think Ritual was my best work. It's got a good beat, y'know, gets the crowd moving, it flows nicely in a live set, it's, uhhh, lighter, I feel, than the rest of the album, there... not weight-wise, of course, but, uhhhh, melodically... You've got that nice *dwandwandwan* pull in there... It kinda trails off, but I prefer songs that fade out as opposed to that hard halt.

As for Infestissumam, an' this may surprise all y'all, but I have to go with Ghuleh/Zombie Queen. I saw years ago someone on this site described it as " starts out as the final song at prom, then at the 3minute mark it becomes a beach party in Hell " and I really like that phrasing, eheheeheheheehehehhh. It works, yeah? Speaking of, and I shoulda said this a while back, but " ghuleh " is not a lady ghoul, 'cause we don't have gender or sex, nor is it the name of the Zombie Queen. It is a cheer. Kinda like " bully " was in America for some time, an affirmative cheer. Like, oh, the Zombie Queen is back, yay! So there's that. Uhhh... Damn I love my surfy riff. I gotta start nagging V about gettin' this one on the new set list...

As for Meliora, He Is is my choice. I did not write all of it, but Papa Emeritus the Third gave me the rough draft of the words and said " make it a hymnal, but better. " I think I did quite well, eheheehhh. The gentle guitar I am quite proud of.

As for Prequelle, here is where it gets tricky. I was not so much involved in the music but I was still a chief consult, consultator, on it all. It's mostly Copia's words and melodies, y'know, I just helped him with guitar chords an' the odd rhyme here and there. This all said, and this here may surprise you, but I find myself enjoying Helvetesfönster!! The band is no stranger to instrumental tracks, but that one in particular- for starts, Nihil didn't insist himself upon the track, so that's already a big plus, eheheeh. It is a melodic journey, a story without words. A rain storm of a song. Beautiful stuff.

As for Impera, another tricky one. Kaisarion is such a shimmering, bright start to an album, it wraps back around to Respite on the Spitalfields, a musical snake devouring it's tail... Call Me Little Sunshine's got that chugging, powerful force, Darkness at the Heart of My Love has that beautiful breakdown and choral sweep... I've also had the least time with this album, so it's tougher for me to pick... Come back to me in a year or so!

something that bugged me about hakita (creator of ultrakill) is that he himself said "there is literally zero evidence that v1 or the machines killed humanity"

uhhhhhh, "the crimes thy kind have committed against humanity" hellooooo???

i'm getting a feeling that he's just trying to keep people away from that theory so he can save it for the big reveal at some point, cause that's just straight contridictin' yourself, unless minos meant something else by "crimes against humanity", buuut nothin' comes to mind.

i think it's kinda like how the gravity falls team juked people into thinking the "stan has a twin brother" theory was false so they could have the same surprise effect when they eventually did the plot twist, despite people predicting it.

i mean, maybe the "great war" or whatever was what minos referred to, but i mean, that's more "the crimes humanity commited against itself" rather than the machines doing the committing of crimes, 'cuz to have a machine war, humans gotta start one first. plus, humans made that machines to do the fightin' and killin'. double plus, that was all a while ago. there was the entire "new peace" era and the fall of humanity and the period of time where the machines just sat at the surface doin' nothin' before deciding to yeet themselves into hell, so minos had a lotta time to forgive & forget all about that war.

and don't even think of pulling the "well minos doesn't know it's not the machine's fault" card because that implies that minos is one of the following:

like an old grandpa that isn't really up-to-date with all this... "technology" junk.

the first one can't be cause if he was clueless, he wouldn't know there was a war to begin with.

the second one... i mean, come on. do you really think someone who uses "thou", "thee" and "thy" would be portrayed as a dumb idiot?

and the third one... is pretty fucking funny i'll give you that. but there's no way that's what it is.

to be honest, i guess it's not IMPOSSIBLE that minos was referring to the war, but it'd be a bit disappointing because i'm pretty sure that when we all heard minos say something about our "crimes", pretty much all of us immediately thought either "Oh my gosh, machines did somethin' bad! They're probably what killed humanity! Woah!" or "what crimes".

i mean, what's more likely:

minos was referring to the great war with all the machines, even though it's technically all humanity's doing, because he doesn't know exactly how sentient the machines are, and believes that since machines were the ones who took actions and went into battle, they are responsible for the deaths and destruction so they must be held acountable

or

machines went haywire & killed humanity & that's why mankind's dead & minos was pointing out the very much obvious crimes we committed

i don't think hakita was playing dumb or just genuinely forgot about that line. i think hakita was, on purpose, telling us that there's no evidence so we go "well, hakita said so, thus there really must be no evidence!" and that way we'll stop looking and forget all about minos's line.

streetcleaners would just suck up all the toxic gasses polluting the air. now, in hell, they're using those same flammable gasses as fuel for their makeshift flamethrowers which they burn us with.

drones are just supposed to be floating security cameras, equipped with non-lethal ammunition in order to incapacitate any potentially dangerous individuals. however, here in hell, that ammunition... well, it's not so "non-lethal" anymore.

i don't know what they do, actually.

but i can't think of anyone who would make a robot whose only objective is to protect its plastic boobs. (don't even UTTER anything along the lines of "sex robot" because dem boobs n' cheeks are HARD PLASTIC ain't NOTHIN' fitting in there)

sooo the mindflayer's literal existence contributes yet another point towards the "machines can and did go against whatever boundaries they were supposed to respect" theory.

so, these now-repurposed weakling machines are pretty damn suspicious. humans had no reason the weaponize air-cleaning and security bots, since there weren't any more wars after the big, great one, so i got reason to believe that it wasn't humans who changed them, but rather they changed themselves after going mad.

26: Hugs. I think once they're finally together and all those feelings are out and they're comfortable, hugs and words of affirmation would be huge. And I don’t think either of them will be able to hold back that well once the barriers of "I don't know my feelings" and "I don't know if this is allowed" are up.

32: I think early on in the relationship they would probably just find a reason to remove themselves and then later apologize assuming they themselves were the one in the wrong, but as time goes on I think they'd both try to "win" the argument. Hopefully one of them will eventually decide to be the bigger person and get the argument on track to "Hey you know what, I love you and this topic doesn't matter anyways" or "Let's take a breather on this and calm down so we can work this out with level heads". That being said I think it's likely enough they'd end up starting a competition to resolve the argument and they get so into it they forgot why they were arguing in the first place.

39: Like in this list or in my other kh otps? In this list (by process of elimination) I'll have to say NearlyMellodraMattic just because at least they'd have less problems with them. I said less though, not zero. Of my other kh otps though I'd say uhhhhhh KaiNamiXi? Idk I think they'd have a time.

23: Mikami overthinks the most but only marginally. And that slight bit is because he overthinks about everything Light does INCLUDING whether he's properly pleasing Kira-sama and doing his will.

30: For Mikami? Anywhere. Maybe lips or forehead edges out the rest just a little but every time he's glad to be granted this chance at all. For Light I think the forehead would be his favorite. It doubles as a soft place for kissing and puts him in a position where he can have Mikami below him (most likely kneeling) and tilt up his chin. What can I say, he likes having someone look up at him.

40: Light. They're both in deep, okay, but Mikami is the most likely to try and fail to hide back a smile, or the moment Light makes it clear that smiling is okay he would just do it all the time. He loves everything about Light and I think it would be easy for Light to make him smile just by...smiling himself or really even just being him. Unfortunately Light needs to have control over every facet of himself, so I think aside from certain moments where he fails, he either fights to hold it back or purposely slips on a smile.

5: Oh boy. So Near I think would be quality time. Specifically in a parallel play type way most times. He likes existing in the same space while he and one of the others is doing something separate (for example, if he is building a model while Matt is playing a game, or if he sits and watches while Mello and Matt play a game together). Occasionally (you gotta have them spoons man) he'll try to get one of them to join him so he can do those things with them. I'm going to nail Matt with physical touch (or at the very least, existing as much in your space as he can where it's still comfortable). So I think that might mean throwing his arms around their shoulders and making excuses to touch them, or (moreso for Near) sitting where body parts such as arms or hands or feet or shoulders (for example) are just barely touching. For Mello I think it would be a mixture of being present in the same, sticking around, and gift giving. So the parallel play type, sticking in the same room or space, but also getting his partners stuff. It may not always seem like it's a friendly gift or followed up with nice language, but everywhere he goes he would see things his partners might like or need and will share some of those things with them (like making mention that he heard that Matt's favorite manga is getting an anime adaptation or buying Near a model kit he doesn't have that's really intricate)

11: Matt. Mello is like a cat, you always wanna decide whether it's a good idea to touch him, and he has different levels of tolerance or capacity for handling it for different people. Near I think has a complicated relationship to it and would prefer initiating the touching or giving an okay for it. I think the previous answer for them answers why I'd say Matt.

16: They all stay up too late, let's be real, but I think in order of who would take this role more often it would be 1. Mello 2. Matt and 3. Near. Near cares about them but he understands that trying to be the authority on this would make him hypocritical. He believes that it's up to his partners to keep up with a sleep schedule or to choose not to. Matt is often the one staying up too late, but I can see him checking the time or coming into a room while it's late and being like "come on it's late". I can also see him doing this if he wants to sleep in the same bed as either one of them. As for Mello, he's definitely a hypocrite. I'd think it's like a 50/50 shot. Either he'd say wouldn't care and (when asked) would say Near and Matt are adults and can handle themselves, or he'd tell everyone to go to bed often (when he realizes how late it is) and only concede in a situation in which he needs them to stay up with him also. So like a 50/50 shot of doing what Near does but louder about it, or very much caring about his partner's sleep schedule and making sure they eventually sleep (getting more frustrated as they don't).

A Book, The Rain

- Kaeya x gn!Reader

Summary: Neither of you have met the other and yet you share the same friends. Now, together for a group project, you finally get to meet.

Genre: Fluff / Modern!AU (College) + Long Fic (3262 words according to Google Docs)

Warnings: A couple swears at the beginning, the absolute poorest writing compared to my other works (much more choppy I feel but oh well, my writing skills failed me this time), I think the OOCness is high in this one for some reason???

a/n: Maybe one day I'll come back to this idea, clean it up, rewrite it, do smth with it. For now though this is it. Part of me likes it (the idea and such), while another part of me wants to not post cause I know it's not the best (in my eyes).

Anyway-

“We’ve never actually talked.” Seeing the way your friends looked at you after telling the truth had you feeling as if you’ve just committed an atrocious crime. In their eyes, you might as well have.

“How could you have never talked to Kaeya!?” Venti, probably your closest yet most chaotic friend out of the group, exclaimed. The lit major’s hands shot out to grasp your shoulders, eyes wide as he frantically shook you back and forth. He’s not mad that you haven’t met the man, oh no, he’s just extremely flabbergasted that in the six years you’ve been friends with people both you and Kaeya knew there was never a time you two met. Like, ever.

“I’ve seen -- would you stop shaking me, please!” Aether, a newer addition to your endless list of friends, pulled the twin braided boy back, finally relieving you of the dizzying motion. “Thanks. As I was saying, I’ve seen Kaeya in the halls and in class, and I’ve heard many things about him. We've just never hung out like I do with all of you.”

Collectively, Aether, Venti, Eula, Amber and Lumine expressed yet again their disbelief. Some held their head in their hands while others could only pinch the bridge of their nose.

Eula, who always appeared to wear a straight face - not unlike Kaeya’s older brother - opened her mouth as if to say some kind of remark about the whole ordeal. Before the first syllable could tumble past her lips, no doubt including something about vengeance, you just happened to glance at the clock, your brain registering that you have just under 7 minutes to get to your next class.

“Son of a-” the curse falls short as you straighten up from your spot against the wall, ready to sonic your way down the hall and up two flights of stairs. You’ve done it in under three minutes before, so it shouldn’t be a problem.

“While I hate to cut the convo short,” you rush out, already eyeing the end of the hall, “I really gotta get going.”

“Wait!” NooooOOOOO you internally scream, reluctantly stopping to hear Lumine out, “for the final project, we should meet at Angel’s Share to discuss our plan. You know, brainstorm some ideas.” Her honey eyes squint in your direction a little, an almost smug smile taking over her face, the one she has every time she thinks of something devious. You don’t know what she’s planning, but you really don’t like it. You can worry about that later though, “You can also finally meet Kaeya. He’s part of our group after all.”

Damn. “I’ll be honest, I forgot the project was a thing…” you sigh, adding it onto your mental to-do list. Hearing your confession Venti burst out into laughter. You would’ve delivered a playful shove to him had your eyes not caught a glimpse of the measly two minutes left until your next class!

“Goddammit!” The cold shiver you felt couldn’t compare to how your heart started beating twice as fast as it should be. “Uhhhhhh, I agree about the meet-up thing. Send me a date and time and I’ll be there!” You practically tripped over your own two feet as you started a brisk pace down the hall, doing your best to weave through the crowd of people.

“Alright, I’ll text Diluc and he’ll inform Kaeya and Jean. Venti will tell Rosaria okay?” The blonde called out to you, though you had already broken into a sprint and skirted around the corner to the stairs. The only sign you gave to say that you heard was a half-ass hand wave to the group before disappearing completely from their sights.

For a newly opened café situated close to a college campus on a Friday afternoon, Angel’s Share was surprisingly empty. The bell above the door jingled faintly, the other patrons inside paying you no attention, and you, them. There’s only one thing on your mind: find that signature tuff of blue hair. You were told that Kaeya would probably be the first one here.

Right, I may have never spoken or hung out with him, but I at least know what he looks like… Actually, everyone knows what he looks like. How could they not?

The truth is, Kaeya Alberich is known all across campus for at least one reason or another. He’s mainly known for his suave, flirty nature, almost everyone having been on the receiving end of his smooth-talking. No one is safe from his charm.

Ah, and then there’s the fact that the bluenette is part of a band. It helped with his popularity, but Kaeya was definitely already well known before he and a few others formed DCKZ.

“May I help you?” Having been so lost in thought you failed to notice the café employee that made their way up to you. Only after they lightly tapped your shoulder did you snap back to reality. It took a moment for your mind to catch up but when it did you explained yourself quickly.

“I was just looking for someone,” you scan each table again, noting that not only Kaeya but not one person from your group has arrived yet. “Seems like they're not here yet…” you trail off, turning back to face the worker. Understanding the situation he offered a small smile, gesturing to a nearby window seat, “well, you’re welcome to take a seat while you wait. Is there anything I can get you?” Shaking your head you utter a quick thank you before sitting, laying your bag aside.

There’s still a while until the arranged meeting time anyway, someone should be here soon, you’re sure of it. Till then you busy yourself with gazing out the window, head in your hand as you think of what to do for the project.

That’s it.

After another twenty minutes of waiting around you finally unzip your bag and pull out your phone, ready to text honestly anyone and interrogate them on where they are. Just as you finished typing out a message you nearly jumped out of your skin as a figure appeared in the corner of your vision, swiftly taking the seat in front of you. Looking up you lock eyes with a sole blue one. The other one was covered by a white medical eye patch, though, that was also partially covered by his striking blue hair.

Not entirely sure how to respond you settle on saying Kaeya’s name, sounding unsure even though you’re one hundred percent sure it’s him.

“You’d be correct. Kaeya Alberich, at your service.” Comes his reply, a smirk that dances between flirty and teasing on his face.

Oooo that’s kinda smooth. You’re not one to fall in love at first sight - no matter how intriguing or fairytale-like it sounded - but you can admit when someone is attractive and good with their words.

You decide it’s only proper to introduce yourself, seeing as he did. When you finished, Kaeya’s response caught you a little off guard. He chuckled, something that mixes together deep and the right amount of raspy, “Oh I know who you are.”

“You… do?” you’re at a loss for words. How does he know you exactly? Seeing your perplexed expression he laughs yet again, eye closing as he smiles.

Resting his chin on the back of his hand when he finishes, Kaeya stares right at you, “But of course I know you. We did share quite a few classes in high school. That, and I’ve heard many things about you from the others.” You honestly don't want to know what your friends have said about you to him and before you could tell him such the waiter from earlier walks up to your table. Switching gears you quickly order your drink, Kaeya doing the same. When the waiter left a silence overtook. Unfortunately, you were never good at finding a way to start a conversation, what do you even begin to talk about???

Ah hell, what now? Shiiiiiiii- think think-

“Do you like the rain?” DAMMIT, NO!

SMOOTH! REAL SMOOTH ME! YES, LET'S TALK ABOUT THE WEATHER! You complete and utter dumbass! You’ve done it now! God-!

As berating words fill your mind - because of course they would, especially after that - Kaeya’s eye widened, clearly taken aback by the sudden - and stupid - question. Still, he knew he should answer. And tease you.

“My, was that really the best you could come up with? It’s rather cliché don’t you think?” he chuckled, but if it was teasing, good-natured or from discomfort you’re not too sure, “To answer though, no. I was never one for the rain.”

A far-off look clouded his eye, the earlier smile he wore shifting to something sombre. Fearing you struck a cord that shouldn’t have been touched you were quick to decide on apologizing. You couldn’t even get a word out though, both your phones buzzing simultaneously. Sharing a confused expression both you and Kaeya took a peek at your devices. On-screen you’re met with a notification from a group chat. It wasn’t too far-fetched to assume Kaeya got the same one.

You watched as a few more texts were exchanged between the group before it finally went silent. Your table buddy stayed silent as well, processing just as you were.

“They wait until now to tell us this!?” You sigh, pinching the bridge of your nose. You have to wonder what went through your group's minds to make them wait until 45 after the set time to let everyone know.

“It is rather poor timing isn’t it?” Kaeya pipes up, shaking his head as he tucks his phone away. He didn’t look particularly upset, the crease of his brow saying that, at best, he found this slightly annoying. However, it’s easy to see that he finds it rather humorous as well. In all honesty, so do you.

“You can say that again…” you share a chuckle. The awkward silence from before seems to have left just as fast as it appeared, something you're grateful for. In between sips of your drink, you find a much better question to ask the man across from you. However, yet again something stops you from talking. This time, it’s Kaeya beating you to the punch. His inquiry/comment though nearly makes you choke on air.

“Romance, eh?” The skin on your neck and back shot up in temperature at his words, most likely from embarrassment. This could only mean one thing - he saw it. What else could he be referring to?

Your eyes trailed down to where he was looking. The book you had brought sat snuggly in your bag, the elegant printing of Pride and Prejudice just barely seen. You must’ve forgotten to zip it up earlier.

You couldn’t bring yourself to look back up at him after spying the novel, afraid of his next actions. Does he think of you oddly now? Does he see you as the stereotypical lovesick fool? You’re expecting Kaeya to laugh condescendingly, maybe let out a snort or scoff, despite how nice he’s been this whole time.

A kind, curious tone wasn’t what you expected, and yet, it’s what you got. “May I see it?”

You’re eyes shot back up to stare at him. You didn’t find any traces of a lie, just genuine curiosity.

Hesitantly you retrieved the book, passing it across the table to him. Kaeya took a few minutes to study the novel, read the back and flip through the pages. When he was done he handed it back, a charming smile on his face.

“Have you heard of Pride and Prejudice?” You asked, voice soft and almost hesitant. You’re still a little baffled at the exchange - like you just narrowly dodged a fatal bullet.

“I have. Venti wouldn’t stop talking about how it’s ‘a classic’ and ‘a must read’.”

“... Do you like romance novels?”

“I like many things. But yes, I do enjoy a good love story every once in a while. I’ll have to look into the book. Who knows, maybe I’ll learn something from it.” Mischief flashed in his deep blue eye, flirtatiously winking in your direction (or perhaps he blinked? You’ll never be totally sure, not with the off-white eye patch he wears, but it feels like it was the former.), “that is, I’d learn some tricks on love itself.”

Finding conversation came easily after that. Covering almost any and everything, you come to learn that you and Kaeya share a lot of things in common. There’s how you both like to read, yes, but there’s also how you both share a liking for music, certain types of flowers, small think like that.

There are also the things you don’t share. You found that Kaeya can appreciate a good glass of wine while you on the other hand aren’t the biggest drinker in town. Not to say you don’t have one every once in a while, but it’s obvious you don’t indulge as much as he does.

Then, well, there are just some things you both can’t see eye to eye on.

“Grape juice is good though!”

“Absolutely not! How could you ever drink something so unromantic!” the look he gave you when you told him that you didn’t mind the ‘unromantic’ drink was one of pure comedic disbelief. You kinda wished you took a picture.

“If it helps,” you begin, calming down from your wheezing fit long enough to talk, “I am more of an apple juice kind of person.” You watched as Kaeya rolled his eye, crossing his arms as he refused to look at you. His childish action made you burst into another fit of laughs. At one point your stomach started to hurt and you had to set your head on the table, wrapping an arm around your torso in hopes to alleviate the joyful pain.

While you suffered Kaeya took this chance to observe you. If anyone who knew him saw the smile he wore while gazing at you they’d say it was a true smile. Something genuine, rare, not a shadow of the flirty façade he dons 24/7. You were a joy to spend time with, and you made him feel so relaxed, how could he not let a smile slip?

A faint ding from his phone pulls him back to reality, as it does to you as well. You lift your head, actually having mellowed down now.

“Something wrong?” you ask, sipping from your third drink of the day. Kaeya looked almost sad for a second as he read whatever was on his phone, his expression changing back to its normal charming smile a moment later.

“Nothing of concern, no. My roommate just wanted to know when I’ll be back for dinner.” The mention of dinner has you checking the time, your eyes bulging as you read 5:10 PM.

“Oh! I’m so sorry I didn’t even realize!” Kaeya waved off your apology, assuring you that it was no way your fault as he too didn’t watch the time either.

Grabbing your bags and paying for your drinks the both of you stepped out for the first time in hours.

“It looks like it might rain…” you note. It’s true, the sky looks pretty dark, not a trace of the setting sun anywhere on the horizon.

As if some higher being was given a signal from you it began to rain. At first, it started as just one or two drops but that quickly changed into an all-out downpour. Kaeya glanced at you, amused at the timing.

“Well, today was fun. Perhaps I’ll see you some other time.” Opening up his umbrella, the bluenette steps out from under the veranda, exchanging one ‘final’ farewell.

Five steps later and the man turned around, making his way to stand in front of you again.

“Where’s your umbrella?” his question caught you off guard, you didn't think he noticed. Or maybe that was just wishful thinking.

“I didn’t bring one - didn’t know it would rain.”

“Allow me to walk you home then.” His offer, as well as the smile he offered, made your heart do flips. You’re no fool, you know exactly what he was getting at.

“Really it’s fine. I don’t live too far from here. I’ll just wait until the rain slows a little.” You try to reason. What you didn’t know was you just gave Kaeya the ammo he needed. His smile twists just a little more.

“If you live so close then it really won't be too much of a hassle to walk you home.” Seeing you open your mouth to try and protest some more, Kaeya interjects once more, “I insist. Think of it as payment for spending so much time with me.”

You honestly couldn't come up with anything more to say, and he looked like the kind that wouldn’t give up, so you relent, stepping to stand beside Kayea under the umbrella.

It’s like the moment you do so you forget how to operate. You don’t know where to put your hands - let them hang at your sides? Put them in your pockets? Do you cross them? - nor do you know how to angle your body so you both are comfortable.

The weight of an arm around your shoulders stops all thoughts from running through your mind. “Let me know if this makes you uncomfortable,” the way he says that oh so softly has your heart speeding up, words failing you. The most you could manage was a small ‘okay’.

As you walked down the street, giving directions when need be, you found yourself growing less tense than you were at first. You maybe even liked having Kaeya’s arm wrapped around you.

“Here we are” you point towards an apartment building that was nestled between two others. A few lights illuminated the soaked street, the light dancing on the concrete in many ways pretty.

“Alright,” your new friend walks you up to the overhang at the front door. “Now this is see you later,” he chuckles. You’re almost sad when he removes his arm from you, the loss of warmth cold and lonely.

“Yeah. I’ll see you in class Monday then?”

“Correct. Until next time then,” he waves a little and you nod, giving your own goodbyes before watching Kaeya turn and walk down the walkway then to the street. You wait those extra few minutes until he leaves your sight before entering your home.

Closing the door behind you, you lean yourself against it, finding yourself looking back on your day. You can’t believe you never hung out with him before. Truly, you were missing out. He was a joy to talk with and get to know, so much so that you hope to see him again far sooner than Monday.

You smile to yourself, “until next time then…”

Lumine smirked at you, crossing her arms. “Well, how else were you supposed to get to know Kaeya?”

“NORMALLY. LIKE, THROUGHOUT THE BRAINSTORMING SESSION!”

“Well?”

“Maybe”

“Then I win this fight.”

“Sometimes you can be a real devil you know that?”

(Embarrassing Cyno fan again.) Forgot to mention but it's also just impossible to take the racism out of sumeru no matter what bc they hard coded the treasure hoarder knocks offs to just be eremites. You can get as many eremites to be scholars as you like, were still going to be killing them en masse to level up our characters.

Hi Cyanon! I gotta do Cyno's quest and then get back to your other ask, because I've only seen him in the main story quest so far. WHICH... I do have some thoughts about, but I'll save that for my patch writeup.

re; the Eremites... well, I'm probably not the best person to talk to regarding colourism in Sumeru and how HYV as a Chinese company is handling that, but uhh I do think the Eremites have fallen into a pretty stupid blind spot in Genshin's enemy design.

Like, we have regional humanoid enemies. The Nobushi and the Fatui, and the Eremites slide pretty cleanly into that category. All of which drop ascension mats, which, sure, leads us into the ????? situations of Childe getting stronger off his dead subordinates and Raiden Shogun looting her people for ascension mats which uhhhhhh yeah, ok. At least they're Team Evil Team and wandering warriors or whatever. I can see why HYV just shrugged and Whatever'd about it, especially since we have the Corps of 30 acting as Sumeru's Regional Peacekeepers and Dehya etc as main characters, so they probably figured they'd covered their bases with The Good Ones and The Bad Ones.

But at the same time, unlike the Fatui and the Nobushi, the Eremites have considerable extremely unfortunate crossover with the Hilichurls in that this is a disadvantaged group we probably don't want to be killing now that we have Context and HYV maaaaybe didn't think through keeping them as permanent enemies, a little bit.

like. i get how this happened and hyv probably didn’t think too much about it. but. man.

Alright alright alright digimon adventure: episode 21, go!!! Last week I was interested to see if the pretty vague ep 21 preview was gonna be a mostly dull fight type filler ep or if the reason for the vagueness was there was too much plotty stuff going on for them to reveal. It’s the latter, I’m happy to say!

It was really cool!! There was a lot of good stuff so YAY! Anything I write here will be a spoiler but let’s just say that T is a very important letter in the alphabet! multiple Ts, in fact!!

Now last week’s episode was A LOT. We rescued Takeru who no one even knew needed rescuing, gained and then immediately lost the Holy Digimon, got him back in the form of a digi-egg, and then immediately lost THAT too. Honestly I get why it’s Chosen Children and not Chosen Adults - adults would be like “are you KIDDING me all this work with NO PAYOFF I am gonna SUE”

Patamon’s digi-egg has been abducted by this guy... Skullnightmon? It seems he was a Xros Wars character. I had to look him up because at first I tried “Scarlnightmon” because Idk I was thinking Scarlet Night??? like night of blood and death??? idk. and Google tried to autocorrect it to “Scranton.” Uh... yeah. Skullnightmon makes more sense because of the BIG ASS SKULL on his breasplate. -.-;

It occurs to me how little I know about any Digimon series other than Adventure X’D I mean, I’m not gonna do anything to change that, but.... yeah I’m gonna continue to mix up stuff like this. His loyal steed is Darkmaildramon.

Yamato, of course, is immediately like Protective Mode On.

So at first I was a bit worried that this ep was gonna just Move Things Along as usual and Yamato wasn’t going to react to his little bro randomly being in the digital world. Let alone in the clutches of pure evil up until just recently. When you’re caught up in battle it’s admittedly hard to find time to Talk about stuff but COME ON

Fortunately, thought we don’t get a lot of Talking, we do get a bit. Like this cute moment where Takeru tries to explain what happened and Yamato’s just like “We can talk later” and gives him this adorable head pat. Ok, fine. I can live with that. It’s better than nothing xP

They arrive at the creepy castle which Taichi recognizes as the place Ogremon directed them to. It looks very evil and in front of it is a giant equally evil moat.

They also find this sinkhole sort of thing which Takeru promptly rushes over to stand at the very edge.

Yamato: OMG kid I look away for ONE SECOND

le gasp! Takeru finds a shiny feather at the edge of the hole! It’s a sign of the holy digimon! We should go investigate!

Oops first we have to find this gross Garurumon knock off... Its name is Splashmon but I think it should be “MeltedCrayonGarurumon”

Splashmon is apparently also from Xros wars and can turn into liquid and take on the form of other Digimon... I don’t know if he’s always this shit at it though. Maybe being controlled by evil is the reason for all the meltyness because he looks pretty cool in his wikia:

Takeru: This bottomless pit that reeks of evil seems like an ideal hiding spot. Niichan will be so proud

No but seriously... looks like we don’t get cowardly, crybaby Takeru this season. The kids getting to y’know Be Human about stuff is a thing it looks like I’m going to continue to miss in this reboot. But on the other hand, I genuinely DO enjoy Takeru throwing his all into saving Angemon.

Skullnightmon sticks Angemon’s digi-egg here where it gets chained down by evil vines. Very evil. Also seems like overkill, I mean, it’s an egg, what’s it going to do, roll off the platform?

We then switch gears and rejoin the kids in the real world, where Koushirou has, apparently overnight, if not in the last five minutes, created an update for their digivices which enables them to always be in contact with their partner. I don’t really get the details but that appears to be the size of it. We also catch up with Mimi and Jou.

At first I thought this was a school, but no, IT’S MIMI’S HOUSE. She has a PERSONAL CHAUFFEUR. Like, 99 Adventure Mimi was well-off, that was especially clear in 02... but... WOWZA.

Mimi’s parents look as stupid as ever xD I love them. They’re joined by her grandpa. After having been gone for three days with no explanation, Mimi’s parents are just like “Don’t you want to take it easy at home today?” when she says she needs to go out. Mimi’s just like “I gotta do what I gotta do!” (ok she actually quotes her grandpa from back in her intro ep but) and leaves like nothing happened.

.... I think grandpa might be dead. He doesn’t move the whole scene. Doesn’t even change his expression. I guess his mouth is a bit more open but that could just be because rigor mortis hasn’t quite set in

Meanwhile in Jou’s (normal, average) apartment, we meet SHIN-NIISAN!!! He’s as much of a dick as ever. I love him. Jou’s parents were mad because 1) he was gone for three days, 2) he skipped cram school, 3) he lost his textbook. I think Shin’s basically like HECK yeah finally my little bro shows his cool side! So he decides to be an enabler. GOOD, seems like Jou needs someone to be on his side at home ;_;

Their Digimon partners are traveling in the interwebz like... this... -____-;

They end up tracking Calmaramon, who is indeed Calmaramon.

I remember from Frontier when Renamon evolved to Calmaramon everyone gave her SO MUCH GRIEF for not being sexy. Wasn’t there like this whole episode devoted to how beautiful Izumi’s evolutions were and then Calmara the Squid Woman shows up and everyone’s like “ewww gross yuck!!” And ok I know she’s evil here too. But guys I JUST THINK SQUID WOMAN IS WICKED AWESOME OKAY. Like that is a LOOK. Versace take notes.

Like can we get some body positivity??? There is NOTHING wrong with being half-squid. Zephyrmon is not better just because she wears lingerie! Bet she can beat everyone at the swim meet. Also tastes yummy fried or raw with soy sauce.

ok I’m done. I’m serious about loving Calmaramon though. I have so many Frontier issues I totally forgot about >_>;

*cough* so yeah Calmaramon and those little green Digimon virus things take control of some boat and Koushirou’s like Uh-Oh Danger Will Robinson. Piyomon tries to attack with Magical Fire and is surprised, for some reason, when it does not do much. They are very much outnumbered and Calmaramon is clearly a much higher level than them so WHY do they think child-level is gonna be enough??

So this is cool!! Koushirou appears to be learning to read digi-code! He sounds out Calmaramon’s name by himself. We still pretty much have the question of why Taichi could just read digi-code fluently (well, almost? he randomly couldn’t read everything at the fortress if memory serves) and Koushirou has to sound it out... will we get an answer to this or?? Like if it were Takeru or Hikari I’d just assume it’s their Magic Baby powers at work but it was never made clear if just Taichi can read like this or they all can, and now it seems like maybe they all can’t since Koushirou’s trying so hard here...

Meanwhile Takeru...

Splashmon turns out to be really tough to beat, because he’s lost his mind and therefore holds nothing back xP He crushes MetalGreymon and WereGarurumon to the ground, infecting them with miasma.

At this point I was disappointed that Taichi and Yamato were still so clear-headed... like when are you gonna worry about your partner dude?? He gets the Crest of Courage because he’s never felt fear in his life??????

But then, their next move fails and WereGarurumon de-evolves back to Gabumon, while MetalGreymon is still in Splashmon’s clutches. He proceeds to pretty much make MetalGreymon’s arm wither away...

And Taichi FINALLY looks worried. ABOUT TIME.

Takeru has made it to the bottom of the hole, where he is startled to find this giant eye. I would also fall right on my bottom if I suddenly came across a giant eye.

Giant eye seems interested in Takeru’s digivice, so Takeru politely lets him have a look. BLINGGGGGGG.

Giant Eye: Ow ow ow turn it down!!!

Takeru: Sorry it’s LED!!

Taichi runs to rescue MetalGreymon in the... most ineffectual way possible... I love him...

The miasma can even hurt humans, it appears. Even though he’s in pain, Taichi doesn’t give up, and we get to hear Yamato shriek “Taichi!” all scared and adorable-like.

Taichi passionately reminds MetalGreymon about what they’re fighting for and succeeds in motivating him to be less dead.

Taichi: GIMME A V DOT THE I CURLY C T O R Y VICTORY!! *CLAP CLAP* VICTORY!! *CLAP CLAP*

Yamato: Incredible... so this is the power of a Pep Talk...

Taichi’s Pep causes MetalGreymon’s arm to... fall off... but it’s ok because it sprouts a long wiggly band of light uhhhhhh which then turns into a Giant Gun. So all is well. because MetalGreymon didn’t already have enough guns

MetalGreymon succeeds in defeating Splashmon and we seem some purple crystal sort of thing disappear, my guess is that’s what was controlling him. Agumon falls from midair and Taichi catches him like this.

They cute. They also need a break. Well, Agumon needs a break, I honestly think Taichi doesn’t even have an Off button...

Just when you think things can’t get weirder... Giant Eye appears.

Takeru’s on top of him looking all cool! Till he immediately falls!

Yamato catches him somewhat more adroitly than Taichi caught Agumon xP

The eye belongs to ElDradimon!! I love “animals with worlds on their backs” so this is totally up my ally. My first guess about the eye was that it was gonna be one of the digital sovereigns but this is still pretty cool.

Yamato doesn’t even lecture Takeru about going off on his own and not hiding like he was told. SO DIFFERENT CANNOT COMPUTE. But looks how happy Takeru is to be praised by his bro for helping ElDradimon. Awww.

I’ve got to now reevaluate how I think things will go down because I really expected Takeru to be something that drives a wedge between Yamato and Taichi. In the old days, Yamato was super protective but Taichi would let Takeru do whatever and Takeru got a little boy crush on him which fed into Yamato’s inferiority complex. But if Yamato’s not overprotective and Takeru is already capable on his own... New directions are good though. I won’t be sorry if they don’t rehash all that BUT I need it to be replaced with something else. Taichi can’t just always be serious, Yamato can’t just always be cool... I like the reboot but I am still on edge about the character stuff.

... Yeah so ElDradimon was mega cool and then... he opened up his VACANT head... bahahaha.... bahahahahahahahahahahaha

So what I really liked about this ep was what I saw as parallels drawn between Taichi and Takeru on the theme of “Do anything to help your partner.” Takeru can’t stop looking for Angemon’s egg, that’s why he goes into the hole after finding the feather. He might not know what’s doing but he’s still gonna do it. Taichi knows a bit more and he’s usually so calculating and strategic, but when MetalGreymon looked on the verge of defeat he threw caution to the wind and tried to save him himself. Okay, not the first time we’ve seen this, true, but it did seem to be the running theme of the episode.

I know I didn’t really talk about how apparently the kids can now update their partners with new powers/gadgets?? by believing in them enough... but y’know that just sounds like the sort of thing a kid’s show would do. I almost miss the card game from Tamers... it would be cool to see the kids have to think and strategically choose what they want to equip their partners with. That was part of the enticement of Tamers, where Adventure was more inexplicable magic, Tamers relied more on intent. Taichi is such a strategist (and of course there’s also freaking Koushirou) that it seems a waste to not involve the kids in the decision making more.

Next week’s ep preivew was a bit hard to follow but 1) the animation looks better than this week thank heaven and 2) it looks like fun. And we get more bamf Takeru! Woot. Can I still say woot in 2020? I can because of senior citizen privilege right?

sooooo, Emi is small for her age. she often gets mistaken for a kid about three or four years younger than her. curse of her mom’s genes, tbh, because she was a shorty her whole life too. Never made it over 5′2″ (157.48 cm) and Koushi is already predicting that Emi will be the same. 

She looks a lot like Koushi, physically. Same hair and eye color. Cute thick eyebrows. Her hair is long, reaching about mid back-ish. She used to have bangs but she’s been growing them out so they’re about earlobe length where the story is right now. Her hair is a little wavy but sometimes Koushi curls or straightens it.

Her face is pretty dainty, but her cheeks still got plenty of cute baby fat. Adorable little button nose. She has some faint freckles over her nose and a few beauty marks here and there. A couple on her arms, her collarbones, side of her neck. And then there’s one under her left eyebrow, another on her right cheek.

Hmmmm she is really feminine so she loves wearing girly clothes, but she’s also a scrappy little honey badger and fighting in a dress is annoying so her wardrobe is like... half overly girly clothes and half comfy clothes. and she usually wears the comfy stuff to school because she’s always ready to THROW DOWN IN THE SCHOOLYARD. lots of pastel colors and pinks and purples and mint green. she regularly paints her fingernails. usually each nail a different color or alternating colors and lots of glitter.

Koushi has mastered hair styling so she’s usually got a perfect hairdo, except for the times when she’s gotta beat someone’s ass and it gets messy in the process. She likes french braids but also loves high, twin buns or anything that keeps it out of her face but still looks pretty and feminine at the same time

uhhhhhh i think that’s about it? let me know if there’s something specific you’re wondering about that i forgot. i know i’m pretty bad about putting detail into my stories. i’ve been thinking about going back and trying to be a bit more descriptive but that sounds haaaarrrrd and i’m lazy 😩
