thinking about just how likely it is that Batman was the only person Harley told about having suicidal thoughts whilst in Arkham in Detective Comics #831
"I was seriously considering hanging sheets from the light in my cell and doing the maximum checkout when I heard this voice..."
Detective Comics #831
and how he knew when she strapped that bomb to herself in Batman (2016) #100 that he had to go after her because she was going let herself die in an attempt to end Joker's rampage for good but that she refused to physically do it because he didn't want to her Kill him and he told her that so she's found a middle ground
"We don't need to end it this way. He needs to be locked back up."
that she'd rather die than keep living with his presence in the world haunting her, haunting Them.
That if he did choose Joker, she wasn't going to disarm the bomb herself.
"Honey. You're talking to the wrong girl if you think he's not dangerous locked up in Arkham. It's like I said. That's not good enough for me. Not anymore."
the way he yells for her as she leaves.
"You're only going to get to one of us in time, Bats. Who's it going to be?"
"Harley!"
the way the two men stare at each other in the way they have so many times before, in those moments when Joker stayed or prioritized their fight over her. the way he knew Joker loved the thrill of it all and thought it was funny, thought there was No way Batman would leave him and that this game had to end as according to the rules. And that Batman would do so, he would follow the rules and save him. The way he immediately assumed Batman would choose him, choose his life and choose to stay and disarm the bomb.
And how Batman didn't do that. How Batman walked away from him, leaving him to die or escape or whatever, because He was choosing Harley and her safety and prioritizing her life over him.
The way he stared him in the eyes before choosing the woman Joker had always left to die over him. The way that it was always Him, it was never a question if he would choose Batman over her, but when faced with that type of scenario, Joker is the one that gets left behind to die.
The way she literally woke up in the hospital instead of them having a scene just outside after he removed it. because she didn't intend to live in one of the two options. the way the bomb probably did go off to some capacity because you don't just end up in the hospital knocked out for a week.
Him saying that he's glad she's okay, after everything they've been through, this war and Everything else. and the way he didn't brush off her concern
"I'm glad you're okay."
"Are you?"
"I had to bury my father again today. I did it with my family."
i just, i can't,,,,, i cant

“What do you really want. And just say it, so I can fight for it” after refusing to equate letting Jay go as a favor for the armor, taking it off as she insists because no favor is worth losing his crew, his family, honor bound to his word. After going through hell with her and Chip, sharing his deepest secrets and biggest worries, taking some of it personally but shrugging it off because he has to. Keeping a clear mind to keep the others safe. Refusing outright to leave Jay in that tundra, even as his own skin freezes and hardens, moving close to help her, to give her his Blessing to help her at his own detriment. Always at his own detriment.
Gillion Tidestrider, champion of the undersea, hero of the deep, eater of grass kicker of ass, defenestrator of the adulterous, and above all else, Riptide Pirate, waking up after what should have been an ultimate betrayal, and wanting to know what Jay’s intentions are - not to gauge his own trust, but to let her know that he’s going to fight for her anyway. He’s going to dig in his heels and he’s going to fight for her anyways.

do you think its better or worse that its actually hijack shes talking to? on one hand, if this was actually spender, it recontextualizes this entire exchange
taking it from "haha... maybe he was just distracted bc he was injured and we almost died, that's why he didn't help" to "he just left me to deal with my grandpa's wrath all on my own. purposely", hence her tugging on her collar and her little haha tacked on.
on the other hand, the fact that it's hijack means that some random spirit that has no connection to her was able to immediately see the loss of her tool (and how it was affecting her) well before the man she's known all her life. thus only making her more unsure of the loyalty she's been showing him.

In fourth grade my class had a unit where we learned all about ships and sailing and sea shanties and then spent a day/overnight on a retired ship. We were split into different roles. I was in the galley team. Which was fun. But in retrospect I was probably put there because I was one of the quieter less athletic kids. BUT ALSO. I didn't get to see anything other than the main deck and I'm so pissed about it still!!!! My classmates got to mess with the ropes and tie knots and see the ship. I got to go down one flight of stairs for the historic tour section but nothing else!!!! Didn't get to stand under any of the other masts or see any cool views or go on any of the other decks I'm o|< little me missed out I would've loved to see more. They should have made sure all the kids got to experience more. They had us take night watch shifts of like half an hour, so like, we each were woken up separately and went and stood out in the cold and were given a journal to write in. I did like that part.
