it was always a strange dichotomy. every middle school classmate i had told me i'd be a millionaire when i grew up, a Famouse Artisté. it's easy enough to imagine as a teen, i suppose: skill equals fame equals money. i was doubtful about this prophecy, not because i wasn't confident in my ability to draw, but because it was hard to imagine a world where i'd be paid for it.
it was an ice breaker game at summer camp. horrible one, really - everyone in a group were given a character profile. now we had to imagine that it was the zombie apocalypse, and the helicopter to safety was two seats short and we had argue why we deserved a spot. the character i got was an asshole doctor of some kind. i don't remember if i argued my way into the helicopter or not, but i do remember the feeling that's been hanging over me my entire life - if the apocalypse happens right now, i have nothing to contribute.
there's something really painful about it. i have cultivated a skill for my whole life, i can make art and tell stories that are entirely unique to me, there is no way to get someone else to create in the exact same way i can, and yet - i've contributed more to capitalist society by sitting in an empty hotel reception for eight hours a day.
which made me develop anxiety, to boot.
i illustrated two children's books. they're some of my best work. the contract i signed was industry standard and the indie author who had hired me was incredibly kind... but even after stock sold out i had earnt little more than some pocket change.
in high school we had an outing to dig our own snow caves that we would spend the night in. in teams, thankfully. i have so little physical strength to speak of, most i could do to help was clear away the snow rubble and toss it outside. i know, i know, my classmates reassured me it was an important job to do, i was an invaluable member of the group, sure - but it's that feeling, you know?
what would my task be in the communist solarpunk commune?
a person cannot be useless. it's a human being. they just exist, no ifs and buts about it. one can only be useless in the eyes of an ableist, capitalist society that sees no value in being alive beyond production and profit.
sometimes i receive messages from internet strangers to tell me something i said - often several years ago - was helpful to them. maybe it was a throwaway comment on a forum. maybe it was replying to a question they could've googled the answer to. maybe it was an encouraging reply to someone's artwork. turns out it mattered to someone. huh.
of course you can learn new skills. i have learnt plenty over the years! i have also learnt that there are limitations to what i can do. that some of the obstacles i face are not in fact obstacles everyone faces. it's not that i can't break tasks into smaller steps, it's more that half of those steps are going to be "rinse your hands because you Touched a Thing and now you're going to have to touch Another Thing." i wonder if that's adding to my cognitive load or something.
i was never raised to be a man, so by all accounts i do not understand why i'm so haunted by the spectre of toxic masculinity - what would i do if i was a medieval peasant and a war broke out? what if i was in a pre-historic hunter gatherer society and i was expected to hunt? what if i was a humble farm boy discovering the sword of the chosen one and the world depended on my non-existing courage to face certain death?
look, it's stupid. these are not scenarios i will find myself in. besides, pre-historic humans depended on community and taking care of each other. that's how we survive.
i'm not useless and i decided to make peace with being useless anyway.
we're surrounded by digital clocks. we can't really escape them. do we need watchmakers? would they save me a spot in the zombie apocalypse helicopter? no, don't answer that. i'm just happy i found something that requires a light touch and an observant eye.
#too long for twitter#I AM NOT ASKING FOR ADVICE I AM JUST MUSING AND WRITING A BLOG POST FOR THE JOY OF WRITING BLOG POSTS#not mentioned: the bachelors degree in art history i took to procrastinate with my life.#i would love to work as an illustrator still. if the opportunity to do so comfortably comes along i will take it#but im also happy to pursue my passion in my free time as something that belongs to me#number one question im asked whenever i tell someone i go to watchmaker school is 'BUT DO YOU STILL DRAW??'#it's like asking if i still breathe. yes! i still do the thing that makes me feel alive#it's just. we live in a world that's hostile to Live Comfortably and Pursue Creative Passions at the same time#and a society that can be so largely dismissive of art sometimes; all the while consuming it en masse#ah you probably get it. you dont need me to tell you

Dear Nonnymouse... Who sent me this:
it’s only friendly advice, but you’ll never get far in the star trek rpc with some of the people you keep around. {redacted} is fine. it’s the people close to {redacted}. one of them being the biggest issue. even if {redacted} is the only {muse}, i understand wanting to interact with the canon muses. her {muse} isn’t even bad. she is. it’s unsolicited advise, but it’s trying to warn you about someone in the rpc. you don’t need to be apart of her collection when there are a lot of us who would love to write with your oc. {redacted} only wakes up for popular canons. don’t let yourself be disappointed when she won’t give your oc the time of day.
this really is being sent with a true hope this finds you well and to help you in your future rp journey.
~*~ Howdy. First, let me explain. Normally I don't tend to respond to things like this but I feel there's merit in posting this just so that everyone can understand where I am coming from and we can all get on with out day. Also, I redacted the names and muse of the two people you specifically named in this PSA. Why? Because I do not engage in call out culture and I wish to be respectful to all parties involved in this. Secondly, I can only assume that you are both young and/or maybe wrote this on your phone, but I appreciate punctuation, complete sentences, grammar, the Oxford comma, capitalisation where appropriate, and the like. Call me elderly if you wish but as a librarian and a teacher, I can say that this almost hurt to read, though not as much as other anons I have received in the past. Third, you acknowledge that this is, in fact, unsolicited advice, and on that front you are absolutely correct. I did not ask for it. Where your advice fails is such: I. You assume I need a warning label about the people with whom I interact. I am actually quite capable of choosing with whom I wish to write, when and how according to our schedules and availability, the nature of what that writing entails, and other details that should matter only to my writing partner and myself. Whether canon or oc, whether rookie or veteran a mun, I will give anyone a chance on my blogs and with my muses based on their merit and not the gossip of others. II. You assume I want to 'get far' in the Star Trek rpc. Nonny, darling, understand this; I have a multitude of books, television, film and other mediums to which I have great love and respect, and am ever so happy to create a verse for should the opportunity arise. But I. Do. Not. Participate. In. Any. Specific. RPC. Mostly because they are little incestuous and toxic little echo-chambers that breed mostly only contempt and favouritism. Every single one I've come up against reminds me of high-school with cliques, tropes, petty squabbling, and other behaviour I find absolutely appalling. Really, honestly, y'all can miss me with this mess. III. You don’t need to be apart of her collection when there are a lot of us who would love to write with your oc. {These are your words, not mine}. I'm looking around here. I've seen exactly...none of y'all... following me out of the blue, knocking on my metaphorical door, engaging with me in any way to make this a valid point. The friends I make are mostly organic; if I see a blog where I enjoy the writing, I will read the rules and peruse the muse or muses that are available. I will follow and try talking via DM or discord, and work out what we're going to create. I take people who follow me at face value and offer them welcome, support, and my best efforts. Sometimes we are not compatible as people and that's fine. I feel that maybe this could be put under the first section but here we are. IV. Finally, we come to the most important address of this post. The specific Mun you oh-so-cordially needed to warn me about.
Seriously, it took me almost 4 hours to stop laughing about this. This mun has disappointed me. She has enraged me to the point of contemplating murder. She's also consoled me when my heart was broken. She's eaten at my kitchen table and made my husband laugh so hard I think a little beer came out of his nose. She's made me fall in love with things I vowed to hate, and we've given each other untold worlds and lives and loves over the years. There are things we will harbour grudges into the afterlife and beyond with one another. Even when we reach a point that we're contemplating what we would look like in prison orange, we still have each other's backs. We have also been friends for nearly a quarter century. This is no exaggeration.
We have written together, created communities, talked ad nauseam about via text/messages/on the telephone and in person for longer than a lot of people in these rpcs have been alive. We could fill my library with the amount of things we've ever talked and written about. There is nothing anyone can 'warn' me about that I don't already know. That same is true for people telling her things about me that they feel are valid.
So, in conclusion. Nonnymouse, you are swimming up some deep streams that you know nothing about, about people you've formed an opinion about without any substantial information to go on except for maybe some hurt feelings and jealousy, if I've read between the lines, and let's face it... You're not exactly Willy Wonka so the sugar-coating about being concerned for my emotional welfare and stability and wishing me happiness in my rp journey {which I've been doing just fine in for the last 8 years}, comes across as fake as William Shatner's toupee.
TL;DR version: Well aren't you precious. Bless your heart. <3
~Sincerly, Turtlemun.
PS: I promise if I have to do this again, I will decline being so polite.
#Mahalo Nonnymouse#Seriously doesn't this shit ever get old for y'all?#At least you tried to be polite which is why I am being kind.#Got this at 6.30am...before I even had coffee. Really set the tone of my day.

it's almost new years and you guys have been there for me so much during this year so tonight I do want to make a post trying to recognize a lot of people within the community. My head is pretty fuzzy right now so I fear I'm gonna forget some folks, in which case I'm honestly genuinely very sorry, but know that so many of you have touched my life in a positive way. Since I wasn't fully around on Thanksgiving either, consider this my chance of telling you all that I'm thankful for you too.
Some of you may not see this. Either because you don't follow this blog or you've been offline for a while. But I hope even if you don't see this post you still are able to understand my feelings towards you.
At the moment I would prefer if people don't reblog this. I'm not the most comfortable with my out of character thoughts being spread around. However if you know someone in this but think they won't see it on their own you are welcome to link them to this. Also if you're mentioned in this and you REALLY want to save it, I guess I can't stop you from reblogging.
Ruler: It feels like anytime I'm in a rough spot you always have kind words for me. With how often you're in character I just deeply respect you always breaking it for me. You've helped me to feel safe in the community during a very difficult time. That means the world to me.
Annette-mun: I know we only met a year ago but you have become an incredibly close friend to me. Being honest, I rank you as one of my best friends. I have fun with all of the boardgames we play together as well as the connections we've made between a lot of our muses. I always want to recognize all the work you put in sending me those ask spams. I'm sorry that because of head stuff I haven't been able to answer most of the new set. It makes me feel as if I've failed to respect the effort that you have put in. But I hope some day in the future I can fix that. I'm very glad we're friends.
Vel: You're a really funny friend and I care about you a lot. I feel that sometimes I'm not sensitive enough to things that may bother you and worry I may have upset you at times in the past. If I have, I'm really sorry. You write Kyouko really well and your ocs are also quite fun. Thanks for letting me make Nagi. Sometimes you say things that make me feel you are self-concious about your blog and other things. So I just wanna reiterate that I am in your corner and here for you whenever you need.
Slap: I was shy towards you at first, I'll admit. It may not seem it but I'm kinda a shy person in general and I'm nervous to warm up to people, but I'm glad you joined the Touhou community. You're a really funny guy. I love reading your posts on my dash and now I also love playing the occasional game with ya. Your ability to do voice and to commit to bits is astounding. I'm really glad I met you.
Argo: You're someone who is always there for me. I really appreciate that. I left the Fate community for personal reasons years ago now. I'm very glad that, despite that, I still ended up meeting you. Because you've been such a good friend to me. I'm glad that you've gotten somewhat into Touhou because it gives us more room to interact. You've really been there when I've needed you. Often you apologize and say you don't do enough but you've done so much for me. You're special to me.
Hoche: Through all the struggles I've gone through you have been very supportive of me. You have been a level headed voice of support and advice. I think that if it were not for you I would have been worse off in many different circumstances. Aside from that you are a very talented writer. I find myself stunned by some of what I've seen you write. Thank you for everything you've done for me and for being my friend.
Zane: You always show me cool warhammer things and that's special to me. I also really like Nyalter. I love ocs in general, but I think you have done a phenomenal job in giving her a life and story that is uniquely hers. I find it to be quite inspirational and it really pushes me to work harder on my own original characters.
Amber: I have mentioned this before but you were the first person to welcome me into the community. That is always going to be special to me. During that period when you left I teared up a fair amount because it felt like things would always be so different with you gone. I'm very glad that you came back. I really like all your ocs. I'm glad Eri isn't gone but I'm also really happy to be seeing the opportunity for your other ocs to shine as well. They're all fun, but I'm particularly a fan of Anna.
Kay: You've given me some of the advice that has helped me the most when I have been in a bad spot. I can't thank you enough for that. You've stopped me from making really bad decisions. You've also just been a fun and supportive friend. I am very interested in your Reimu and the story arc you've created with the hakurei god.
Swigg: I know we haven't talked much lately. I think our schedules don't line up the best. But you recently mentioned trying to get back into Tumblr. I'll be very happy if you do. Your ocs are fun and you put a lot of love and care into the canon characters you write. I think you add a lot to the community.
Sethy: I didn't know it for a while but back in the Fate community I followed your arknights blog and admired you there. I'm super glad I have gotten the opportunity to meet you and to become your friend. I think that all the things you do are so cool. Like you're a vtuber that's incredible. I always wanted to stream but could never work up the courage. You also know the creators of all the walfas I love. I just think its so cool. You have such a history within the community. I know that you suffered a very bad tragedy this year. I don't believe I was in a good enough headspace at that time to have provided you with the support a friend should have given and I deeply regret that. I just hope you're doing well.
Noka: I think you're a real sweetie and also really funny. I'm glad to see you posting on your sfw blog a lot more again because I really love seeing you on my dash. I'm hoping that we can do a lot more threads in the future because its always fun to write our muses together.
Minnie: Maybe the only person with the same brain worms as me. I know that lately we have not talked much but I hope you are doing well. I just wanna say that I really love your art.
Aurora: My apprentice and buddy, hehe. I know I haven't been around much but I want you to know that I'm glad you decided to join the rpc. You're so full of ideas and kindhearted. You have such phenomenal oc ideas and have such a talent for making danmaku. I think someday you may be the centerpiece of the community.
Sats: We haven't spoken too often but like Amber you were one of the first folks to interact with me in the community. Alongside that I find your writing to be phenomenal. As are your headcanons. The work that you put in to research, especially on folklore, is just so inspirational. It drives me to want to learn everything I can.
Momi: Hey Momi. It's been a while since you've been around and I miss you a lot. I know we still message on discord occasionally so its not like I can't reach out to ya. But I just miss you being in the rpc a lot. You were such a great writer and always doing something fun. But I imagine you've got a whole bunch of difficult challenges ahead of you. I've heard the career you're pursuing is really rough. I hope that you're thriving in it though.
Sarience: You've always been a good pal to me. I have a lot of fun writing with Neka in both forms as well as your other muses. There's a lot of asks from you I haven't answered yet. I'm really sorry about that. It feels disrespectful. Still I hope to be able to do more in the future. Thank you for always being interested in interacting with my muses, even when I was very new and unestablished.
Kyo: I really really like everytime that I see you on my dash. You write your muses in such a fun and engaging way. I hope that we get to interact a lot more in the future. I also know you've started something new in the last few months, not gonna be specific since I'm not sure if you've shared that part of your personal life on Tumblr, but I wish you the best of luck at it. I think you're going to succeed hard!
Ran: Ran I guess I just first wanna say I consider you a really good and special friend. When we've spoken you've often alluded to social anxiety and feeling like you've said embarassing things. So I want to restate that I've never been put off by what you've said and I love talking to you. As well as roleplaying and doing boardgames. I have so much fun pairing our muses up our causing wacky hijinks. I haven't seen you on your blogs much lately. Maybe I've just missed you but if not I hope you return to the rpc soon. It's not the same place without you.
Metal: You've been a long time friend to me by this point. Longer than a lot of folks on this list. I really appreciate that a lot. We haven't talked too much lately but I hope you're doing well. I also know not all of our fandoms sync up but I'm always down to interact anyways.
Nep: Hey Nep I haven't really seen you on Tumblr lately. I'm hoping that's just because we've been active at different times but if not I hope you're back soon. If you're not, I hope you're happy wherever you are. I think that you're real fun to write with and you've got original characters I'm excited to do much more with. I also believe that you had an event while I was gone that I'll hopefully be able to catch up on sometime soon.
Koi: I know I've not been around much lately but I hope that you're doing well. I've not really been in the headspace for horror lately but you're very good at bringing a unique horror flair to things.
Plumber: Hey we don't really personally know each other all that well but you're always making fun and wacky posts that I love to see on my dash. It feels like the rpc would be a lot less fun without you here. You also seem to be an incredibly kind person.
Kaali: A friend I've had for quite a while now but that I don't talk to enough. Sorry about that I'm just genuinely not the best with conversations. I have mad respect for all the work you put into your original characters and into your ideas. Like you really pull out all the stops.
Awoo: I've admired your ability to create interesting and fun original characters a lot. Several decisions I've made to develop my skills as a roleplayer have been inspired by you. I know you've had some mental health struggles of your own and I haven't heard from you lately so I hope you're doing alright wherever you are.
Sades: During some really difficult moments you were there for me when not many other people were. I'm always going to appreciate that. You're also the reason I got into Touhou. Which means that without you, chances are I woule not have met the vast majority of people here or found a community where I feel I belong.
Cobalt: I am always ecstatic when I see your posts on my dash. I love your Chen and think that you're a lot of fun. I have not been around much but when I have been I've seen you talking about things like not feeling you have much to do in the community. I can't make decisions for you but I do want to say that I think you are a fundamental piece of our rpc. I would be sad not having you here.
Teeps: I was shy about approaching you at first but you're incredibly cool. A lot of the fandoms you are in I'm not in but your posts get me interested in them anyways. Like I have no clue who that green sonic character is but you give her such an energy. I'm real glad to know ya. As far as the 2hu rpc goes you've been around a lot longer than me and I love hearing your own personal that you've developed.
Cait: I need to pop in and catch your streams more. I think that you're very cool to see on the dash. I especially love the way that you write your Sakuya. I really cherrish her interactions with my Reimu.
Sev: First of all. A while ago you sent me a very kind message wishing me well in my mental health struggles. I was not in the best place then so I did not appropriately respond. So thank you for that it truly meant a lot to me. I believe that you put a stunning amount of work into the characters you write, giving them so much detail and layers. Its inspiring and I just really want to appreciate you for it.
Hanafuda: You haven't been around much and last we spoke you alluded to a rough spot. So I hope if you ever see this that you're doing well. It was always fun having another Miko on the dash for mine to banter with. I also looked forward to seeing more of the other muses you played. Maybe someday you'll return.
Frozen: Everytime I see one of your posts it makes me smile. Honestly you've got some of the funniest jokes in the fandom. Some I don't get but I still feel they'd be hilarious if I got them. Also I have noticed you often commission art for other people. I find that to be a very sweet and kindhearted thing. So I consider you to be the heart of the community.
Fox: I don't know you very well but I've recently seen your multimuse popping up and it seems very fun. So I want to get to know ya in the future.
Chiru: We've not really spoken but I think you make some really great posts. Very well written headcanons and roleplays. So I just wanna say I'm always happy seeing you on my dash.
Draco: you're not in the touhou fanbase but you have been a long time friend. I haven't heard much from you lately so I hope you're doing well. I'm here if ya need me.
Sturm: I think that all your fairy posts are incredibly. You truly are a star of my dashboard. Hopefully someday we'll interact more. I'd like that.
Xana: You seem to have so much lore for your blogs, its really cool. It seems you've been around a long while so there's a lot of history. Someday I'd like to sit down and hear all about it from you. I also find your writing to be quite fun.
Jacob: we don't interact too much but I'm always excited to see someone posting walfas images. So that has always made you stick out in my dash and brighten it. Hope you're doing well.
Geisthonoredferry: As of yet, I don't believe we've interacted. But you're always liking my posts thst's something I really appreciate. Hopefully sometime I can get to know your oc.
Carp: Last I saw you were in a rough spot so I hope things are well now. You're newer to my dash but you seem very kind hearted and jovial. Also your ocs sre red as hell and go've got good face claim tastes.
Crim: You're a real cool friend with a lot of cool ideas. I love any interactions that our muses have together. Although my favorite is Kutaka/Eiki because it's somehow both a very obvious ship and yet a rare one. I think that they are very cute together. I also like the sisterhood of Reimu and Kisume. It's an unexpected but fun dynamic.
Mugenri-mun: I don't believe I know your screen name but you've been real supportive of me through my hardship and gave me a person to speak to. I would not be in as good a place without you. Also I'm glad someone is repping Len'en.
Kcmeiji & Closedheartedgirl: I wanted to note you both as you are both Komeiji blogs thay popped up and then disappeared while I've been got on hiatus. I just think that's a bit disappointing. The Komeiji are some of my favorites.
That's about all I have to say. It was kind of tough to word it all out but those are things I want y'all to know.

HUMP DAY ACTIVITY REMINDERS
Good morning, Merrockites! Rather than cram all of this into June's mod post, I thought with 48 hours to go before our next check, I would make a separate post to go over some activity reminders. (Bonus: I've included some advice/tips for those struggling a bit under the cut, as well.)
We will be having a big activity check on Friday that will check for the following things:
each character has made at least two in-character interactions in one week's time (must be two different threads).
each character is interacting with two different writers in the group in the span of a two week period.
every writer has replied to at least one open starter in a month's time (should be applicable this month -- we have some new ones if you haven't yet!).
I would like to go into June fresh, which means we are going to drop all existing strikes and give everyone a clean slate -- but that also means moving forward, we will reach out to you if we notice a lot of strikes accumulating, just to see how we can help you out. As always, the check schedule can be found here.
A moment of full transparency: I set up checks on Thursdays, most of the time. It's my "work day" on main, anyway, and allows me to take my time to double check blogs and see where people are with activity, and then double check Friday and remove those who logged in during that last little bit. If you wake up Friday morning with a notification that you are on check but your blog is not on check, there's a very good chance you were on the original draft of check and were active in that last 24 hour period, and Tumblr is just glitching. You are only on check if your blog is listed, promise.
I've stressed a lot lately about how groups are only successful if everyone does their part, and that they only really work if we keep in mind that we all rely on one another to keep activity up and things going. This is true! But I wanted to maybe try and offer some advice / tips / things that help me out with activity, for anyone who has asked lately, or might be struggling.
trackers are a handy tool! you can set one up in a google doc, in notepad, on a literal notepad, whatever you want. it helps you keep track of what threads you have, who owes who, what writers you're writing with, etc. for me, it's a fabulous way to keep a visual of whether or not i am able to meet all of my activity goals re: writers and two threads per week. but remember: trackers are for you and your eyes, they don't need to be someone else's responsibility!
working in order is helpful for you & your writing partners. i know, i know, muse is stronger for some threads (and that's okay, as long as all of your stuff is being worked on regularly alongside them), but -- either you or your partner are going to lose muse for other threads that are sitting for longer periods of time while you're working on the same ones repeatedly, you know? try to work on things oldest to newest when you can, to avoid that. use time stamps! say "oh, i need to get to all these threads from last week / three days ago / yesterday!" to keep 'em going.
if you play multiple characters, keep them equally active. whether it's setting a goal of doing five replies on each of them at a time, doing a certain time's worth, whatever works for you! it's important to remember that all of your kiddos should be treated equally, and try to balance activity across all of them, so they're all an equal part of merrock. it's like... you know, they're your babies. they all get the same portion of macaroni and cheese at the dinner table.
i one hundred thousand million percent would rather see you just be active and having fun and cementing a sort of presence for yourself in the group, participating in events and enjoying your time in merrock than watch anyone stress out about being "caught up" on replies. it is way less important to me that you are 100% caught up, done, everything replied to than seeing that you are replying to new starters regularly, making an effort to reach out to others ooc, trying your best to maintain steady activity. promise.
The reason that I say all of these things, and try to offer advice and help and encourage people to be more cognizant with activity is simple: people rely on you in a group setting. Pushing off a reply for another week, only doing replies on certain characters, dropping threads, even sitting on finished threads that someone's waiting on all could be the difference between someone ending up on check or not -- that one reply could mean that they don't have a second writer for the two week period, or they were desperately waiting for your response to even meet the one week goal.
Some of these things might help you. Some of them might not! People work in different ways, and that's more than okay! But since I've had some people ask for help, or mention struggling lately, I thought that heading into the summer, it would be a good day to offer advice and try. xx

Hi! Just wanted to say I think your blog is magic. Almost every time I get stuck on something and send a question for advice, I come up with a new idea and am able to move forward literally later on the same day. Before you even had a chance to answer. I usually get stuck again anyway so your advice is much needed, but there's definitely something magical about your blog. Are you a muse in disguise?
That's so nice of you to say! And, actually, it's proof positive that sometimes just talking through the problem with someone else (even just telling them about it, like you do in an ask) can be enough to help you work through an issue. This is why--as silly as it sounds--sometimes I like to have conversations with myself as I'm working through story problems. It really, REALLY helps if you can do it when you're alone in a car or home alone, so people don't keep asking, "What? Did you say something? Are you talking to me?" (Or just laugh at you for talking to yourself...) but truly, it helps! And if you can't talk through it out loud, you can do the same thing in writing, whether sending an ask here or just writing it out and pretending you're talking it through with someone. The real magic is our brains, and the real secret to writing success is figuring out how your brain works and how to help it do what you love to do. Thanks for writing! ♥

If you could give a single piece of advice to new people in the roleplay community, what would it be?
i see you've sent this to a few others nonny : twiliae's post is v good & so is puxrlunae's . i haven't seen others on my dash at the time of writing ( tho i can guess other ppl have been asked but idk lol ) but imma try not to duplicate what they said but / shrug
i'd recommend learning when you do need to stay in your own lane & have some critical thinking . don't push yourself into drama cause the rpc says you just have to stay informed & don't believe everything you see . i've seen a callout where they screamed that the person the callout was about was transphobic cause they used the wrong pronoun for a muse ..........in a whole roleplay where they than used the correct pronoun & it was simply a mistype in one or two places . but the callout post highlighted the wrong pronoun use to make sure you believed them & not the would-be offender & people are quick to the gun . this wasn't in the zelda rpc nor any connected one & was years ago so i don't remember anything beyond it was so shitty to bend the truth . like maybe english was their second language so they got confused or forgot or maybe someone writes the same muse with different pronouns ?? idk
sometimes it's better to just turn around & go back to writing ur little doll kissing ur friends doll lol
this is why my rules states this :
i do read the callout posts but i reserve the right to my own opinion that may differ from yours . please do not come to me if someone i am writing with has a callout post unless they have done something illegal ( child grooming , abuse , major harm , ect )
it's not so much my own opinion in the way of " oh i don't think what they did was wrong ✨ " & more of " does this callout have any weight ? " & sometimes i find that no , no it does not .
beyond that idk ... write for urself , be nice to others . you don't have to have fancy graphics to special formatting you just need to follow common courtesy . you want fun questions & starters you gotta also send them to others . tag ur triggers . don't reblog threads if they aren't for you & enjoy your time here because its a hobby !! don't stress if you feel like your writing isn't the best ⸺ you will only improve the more you write & soon you'll find yourself writing some really sexy threads with amazing friends <;3
also !!!!! you can find resource blogs that have posts about what you need to know or what might be helpful if you're super new & find xkit weird ( i had such a hard time figuring out xkit vs new xkit vs xkit rewritten omg but resource blogs helped a lot ) or don't get what reblog karma is or other little things like that . some even have templates for free or good prices ! i'll list a few that i follow & use still :
poohsources , rpclefairy , soulrph , & plenty more are here ! just search some tags like rp resources , rph , carrd templates , ect ! you're bound to find the help ur looking for !
anyway this isn't a single thing !!!!!!! i just went off !!!!! i event trimmed some of the advice cause it was repeating what other ppl said but oops lol hope this helps !!!
#⸻ OOC : answered ✦ im going by the seat of my pants ˎˊ˗#( idk if ur new or this was like ..... a thought experiment ?? but eh it might help someone lol )

Do you still write your first muse?
Is there anything you would have changed when you started writing now that you have more experience?
How do you create an OC? What are your steps for developing an OC
What people make you happy when you see them on the dash?
What new addition would make your Tumblr experience so much better?
okay so technically gen isn't my first muse. i've been rping since way before tumblr, like i started on n.eopets and then went to forums dfjfs BUT, that's all a technicality. i'm considering gen my first muse that ever TRULY stuck around so like long answer no on technicality short answer yes.
i'm actually going to be so brave and say i wouldn't go back and change a thing writing wise. all the "cringe" writing i used to do when i first started led me to where i am with my writing now. all the Super Extra stuff in between also helped me develop my style. I found my first ever attempt at fanfic sometime last year and while it was "bad", it was still writing! it was still something i sat down and i did! experience can only be gained with time and through actually Doing The Thing imo.
honestly gen was never supposed to be what they are now, she started as an ask blog for a meta version of a real life actress on s.pn that appeared in like two or three scenes in ONE episode. the best advice i can give for OC creation is to just not limit yourself or think you have to have every little detail and every moment of their backstory figured out before writing them. let yourself do overhauls of their story if the current one doesn't feel right, be as fucking out there and extra as you really want. like, look at the canon characters in popular media, if they can be "op" or "super extra" so can your OC. I genuinely feel that's something that can hold a lot of people back when trying to make their own silly lil barbie and i'm tired of it! i am!
i'm not saying this as an easy way out of being specific but honestly all of my mutuals! i keep my dash very slow and very tight knit for a reason, all of y'all make me happy when you pop up on my dash.
at this point i just want to be able to search my likes again. i have almost 25k liked posts and going through them is soul sucking fdfsfdgf. rp wise? a better and more reliable notification system, the ability to send asks from side blogs, gif dashicons, and to bring back the ability to tag more than 5 people on desktop.

So, OFMD is my all time favorite show and I am in love with every single character and have been wanting to try and join the fandom as Stede Bonnet, but I am SO nervous. Only because you, and several others, are just so incredible and I am intimidated but ahhh, I want to do badly write as my pirate princess. Any advice? Or just go for it? I’ve been writing for years, but graphics/theme making are not my forte.
Hey, friend!! Thanks for the kind words!!
I would just GO for it, with the understanding that there's a learning curve to the "rp etiquette" of Tumblr (and some users, as is the way with social media, will be more forgiving and flexible with "mistakes" than others). I would introduce yourself, as you have done here, to people who seem fun and chill, and express your interest in interacting with them IC. 1) Tell them you would be writing Stede. 2) Read their rules page (usually there is a pinned post at the top of a writer's blog offering a mobile-friendly link to their rules, which is basically how they prefer to interact with other writers, how often, in what format, what the writer's or "mun's" triggers are, etc) and tell them that you have: this seems to be a real sign of good faith around here. 3) Collect a small list of people (maybe 4 or 5) to start with, and follow them. If your rp blog is a "sideblog" to a main account, also let them know that, so that when a non-rp blog (you) follows them, they know who the heck it is! I cannot underscore enough how important it is to find people with whom you jive ooc, as yourselves. It simply will not be fun if you don't. So take your time with this part! 4) Make your blog. Customize your theme as much or little as you like, but a good rule of thumb is to at least make an "About the Muse" page (muse's story), a "Rules" (do's and don't's of interacting with you) page, and a "Verses" (discrete story timelines, usually grouped by how much you adhere to canon or by romantic "ships") page. Your muse is a "canon" muse: that is, a muse that already exists in the official fandom universe. 5) If you don't have it already, GET XKIT REWRITTEN (a browser extension that lets you alter Tumblr's increasingly perplexing and user-unfriendly interface, lol. There are versions for both Chrome and Firefox. 6) Start writing. You rp on Tumblr by reblogging a person's IC (in-character) post to your blog, and adding a text reply. They then reblog you. And so on and so forth. Here is where you consult their rules page to know things like: are they okay if I trim posts? Are they okay with me dm'ing them to ask for replies? What's the most courteous way to use tags in order to easily find past writing or filter my blog? How explicit can writing with this partner get re violence or s*xual themes? Etc. Everyone is different.
Re making your blog fancy: You do NOT need to be well-versed in Photoshop, themes and coding in order to run a blog. A lot of people now rp on Tumblr Mobile, where theme graphics don't show up anyway. Those who still use graphics vary, but most of us really don't care if our writing partners use them as long as we can continue to do so.
However, if you're still anxious, I've got a couple graphics and rpg sources right off the bat that can help you tremendously:
@poohsources (your one stop shop for EVERYTHING theme, icon, rp etiquette, formatting, etc related. A very kind soul) @octomoosey (best free blog theme coder on Tumblr!)
and if you're willing to pay for codes and graphics, I can also recommend a few good friends.
Also, if you have further questions, come to me. My anonynous ask option is usually on. <3
(Anyone reading this, feel free to add on your suggestions!)

-Independent Fandomless Original Character. Crossover Verses in Final Fantasy, various animanga series, other video games, and graphic novel lore-
This blog will be dealing with themes such as: the creation of 'monsters', a nuanced look at Asian organized crime, death and rebirth of the self, man-made Gods, pack mentality, tearing and clawing out meaning for oneself in an unkind world ruled by wealth.
-Kkeungi, 30+ (He/Him, They/Them), PST-
est. 07/28/2022.
Multi-para, long term plotting preferred. Crossover & Multimuse friendly. ◈ MOBILE/CARRD. ◈ HEADCANON. ◈ META. ◈ WRITING. ◈ ARTWORK. ◈ THREAD TRACKER. (Updated: 9/19/24) ◈ RP WISHLIST ◈ INTEREST CHECKER (Updated: 12/08/24)
-MORE INFORMATION BENEATH THE CUT-
[MUN]
King Kkeungi /King K/Kkeungi (he/him & they/them), 30+, Pacific Standard Timezone (UTC -8).
Please do not follow/interact if you are under 21+: I am Olde™ and perpetually exhausted.
I go through cyclical periods of being very chatty and active, then straight up nonexistent for awhile due to personal life and work stress.
[DISCLAIMER]
I do make serious effort to tag anything sensitive/heavy in terms of content and am completely open to adding tags for my mutuals, if needed.
However, always take tags literally- Like as in Dead Dove: Do Not Eat. If the tags say 'organ harvesting', expect literal organ harvesting. I don't usually use 'DD:DNE' since a lot of chronically online people assume it means I write 'problematic content' for sexual self-gratification. Please do not insult me like that or attempt to shame me for what I write, I will block you without hesitation.
[TRIGGERS]
Mutual respect is necessary if we're going to write together.
I personally have very specific triggers, so they don't even come up in writing at all (they've proven to be visual/auditory).
I always write trigger tags as 'trigger tw or 'trigger cw' since that is the easiest way Tumblr Savior can accurately recognize them.
[ACTIVITY]
I'll post my schedule once it becomes more regular (just got a new job), but in general I'll probably have more time to write at night. I initially send requests to plot over DMs in Tumblr since I personally don't like giving out my Discord handle to someone completely new and feel like other writers do the same. If we seem to connect easily, I generally give it out anyway.
Discord RP is totally fine. If we're already threading on Tumblr, moving them to Discord is also fine.
If I follow you, I want to write with you.
Constructive criticism is always welcome when I ask for it (i.e., post OOC asking for it or reblog a concrit meme). I heavily dislike Love Bombing as a practice and I also do my best to offer objective and constructive advice to my close friends who ask for it from me. I want to eventually publish my own fictional works, so improving upon my style and understanding of writing is something that I actively work very hard on.
Hate will always be erased and you will be hardblocked.
Tracking the tag: #gcldfanged
I take awhile to respond. You may remind me every now and then to check in, but I don't really work well within specific time limits to follow back or even interact once we're mutuals. I have limited spoons and personal time, so I will actively distance myself from Muns who display entitlement over my attention.
[GENERAL]
Power Gaming is super boring to me. I prefer doing a 'Blow by Blow' where we leave each response open to the mutual as to what their muse acts upon and is affected by. I also don't mind plotting it out beforehand.
I do not do 'Follow for Follow'. Sometimes my mouse also misclicks on the Dashboard and it'll make me randomly Follow a blog I'm only checking out or Like a post TWICE in succession- This is NOT an attempt to get your attention if we're not mutuals. I will always reach out to apologize in DMs and explain so there's not any misunderstandings.
My Ask Box, Discord IMs, and Tumblr DMs are always open for clarifications, questions, and requests to edit my posts.
I love plotting. It's not necessary all the time, but even a few basic details generally help me get a better idea of what to lead with. I will offer ideas and expect the same, I dislike feeling as though the effort is one-sided.
[SHIPS & NSFW] I always tag with #◈ NSFW and employ cuts/'read more's. I'm Multiship 100%, unless all mutuals involved in the thread discuss that our muses can recognize established relationships in the RP.
[FORMAT]
You never have to match length or speed of replies.
My only thing I expect to match is providing content we both can work off of- If the vibes aren't there, I'll reach out about it OOC. If nothing changes, I will more than likely drop the thread.
I can write long replies and forget to use cuts, just message me if it's making your Dash awful.
I use icons when I even remember to use them, they're honestly just for fun- Never required.
Small Text is fine, but whenever I seem to reblog and edit to reply on Tumblr- small text format will break in the draft, randomly? So I probably won't be using it at all.

⚅ — Rules and Guidelines — ⚅
★— PERSONALS/NON-RP BLOGS: You're welcome to follow me and like my posts, however please do not reblog my threads or art tagged with "do not reblog unless" or any variation of that. This is to keep my notifications clean and my friends safe. Thank you for your cooperation. —★
⚀ RP Etiquette Applies: No God modding, metagaming, etc. etc. If there's something here you don't already know about or are new to rping in general, come talk to me to settle out confusion. I'll help!
⚁ All players must be 18+: I'm an adult and I only wish to roleplay with adults. This is not a space that's safe for minors. Please do not lie to me for both of our sakes.
⚂ I do not accept unprompted M!As: Or anons causing a change to my character or their state, for clarification. Unless I ask for it, I won't answer these types of asks.
⚃ OC and Crossover friendly: Please have a bio for your character that I can read through, even if they're canon. I'm less likely to attempt to write with characters I can't learn about or get ideas for.
⚄ Duplicates friendly: I'm a-okay with and actually encourage duplicates on this blog. Other Hanekomas are some of my favorite muses to write with.
⚅ Shipping: Hanekoma cannot be romantically shipped canonically. However, non-canon ships of all kinds are welcome, and platonic and familial ships can become canon. I ship with chemistry, and even if we come out of the gate with a ship in mind I would still like to build up to it.
⚅⚀ About Connections: Connections are my main/affiliated, canon relationships. I do not make mains calls and I will most likely not be the first person to come discussing making a muse canon to Hanekoma's universe. I am extremely uncomfortable with doing so and would really much rather be approached about this potential instead. OCs are also welcome to be canon muses to Hanekoma's universe.
⚅⚁ NSFW threads are extremely rare: Mun is a severely sex-repulsed asexual and is not generally comfortable writing explicit scenarios. I'll only write smut with mutuals I really trust, and even in this case, there must be plausible build up to the scenario. I will not write it with new mutuals and I will not write it with mutuals I do not already have an ooc relationship with. All smut threads must be tagged appropriately, and they must be cut both for my comfort and my audience. Please respect my boundaries regarding this rule especially.
⚅⚂ Liking and tagging: I tag all triggers as "[trigger] tw" and will often add "ask to tag" which means you should inform me if there's a tag I've forgotten that you need. I also like (❤️) threads to signal that I consider them finished and do not expect a response. It's okay to continue the thread if you want to continue, though.
⚅⚃ Patience and Reminders: I don't mind if you spam me with reminders if you think I've forgotten something, even if you do it a lot. However, I ask you not to get short or impatient with me as I do have a life outside of roleplay that takes priority. Just don't get angry and we'll be golden.
⚅⚄ Drama: I will not be bothered by you posting drama (call outs, etc.) but please understand I do not personally support it and will not participate in it in any way. Feel free to tell me if you think I'm interacting with someone dangerous, but please understand that I won't always take your advice and I will make my own decisions regarding who I do and don't interact with. You are free to send me receipts, but I don't personally trust them and I will most likely make decisions based on my own personal experience and observations. Thank you for respecting my boundaries regarding this.
⚅⚅ Mun Information: Please read my mun page as there is important information about me there that may effect your comfort level with interacting with me.
★— Rules are subject to change without prior warning, so please check back if you're ever unsure about something and always feel free to contact me regarding them! —★

𝐨𝟏. » i'm a generally slow roleplayer with not much time and the attention span of a goldfish, that loves to write a lot and jump constantly between muses: as such, all my blogs have fluctuating activity, almost constantly on the lower side. anything you will send i will reply to, it might just take some time! all the prompts i reblog never expire, so you can send one whenever you like.
𝐨𝟐. » i love all types of interactions and love improvising on prompts, so never fear to send me something, both from a list or completely original. i always love receiving them! if you are willing to, i'm always open for plotting, as certainly plotted threads keep my attention span longer. also, feel always free to drop threads with me if you have lost inspiration, i promise i won't get offended! we're here to write and have fun - if we're stuck, we can simply drop it and begin something else!
𝐨𝟑. » while it's not the main focus i have with this muse, i am open to romantic relationships, though i am not comfortable with smut in general, and i do headcanon ingo as asexual and not interested to sex. a relationship with him will likely be a very slowburn and full of obstacles, regardless of the time it happens.
𝟎𝟒. » i roleplay ingo centred on legends: arceus, even in the modern time verse: the blog's canon will always be either him in the past, or him returned to the present, but never anything before legends. this is mostly due to the fact that i'm pretty new still to the pokémon franchise ( i started to get into it with sun&moon ), and i literally know little to nothing about the previous games. which works pretty well with an amnesiac character, to be fair!
tumblr ims work when they want, and am not very present on the site through the day; if we're mutuals, you can always ask me for my discord!

((Hey Anon! First of all, thanks for reaching out. I’ll do my best to give you some advice. Honestly, I had a basic idea of what to do, but I had to rework things and adapt as I went at first.))
First of all, it’s okay to feel intimidated. I sure did when I got started. I was thinking “who am I to do this when there are other blogs out there who do it better than me?” Actually I know of one other Scott blog that I follow on my personal blog but that’s it but still. Don’t let the intimidation get to you. You can find your own way.
Plan out your rules and about page and how much you are going to do and not do beforehand. But don’t be afraid to change things to better adapt to your needs. I had all of that figured out too and then after a week or two, I had to change a couple things since I had a better idea of how my blog would work.
There are some RP threads that are planned but the majority of mine are not. Somebody just drops an ask or I’ll drop one getting things started and we take off.
If you prefer to have a plan, reach out to whoever you want to RP with and ask them if they’re interested in planning with you.
Keep it natural and just go where you feel the muse goes. Don’t do any godmodding. You control your own character and no one else’s.
Pick a muse you’re comfortable writing for. I’ve been writing for Scott in discord for 3 years before I moved over here, so I was very comfortable with him. Plus we have a lot in common so that helps a lot too.
To keep things clean and short, keep the reblogs to like 10 between you before you start over under the original post. For an example, click here. After the thread length got to a certain point, I took the other person’s last quote, copied it and shrunk it to show where I was continuing from. And if the previous quote was too long to do that, I have a link to that last quote like you see in the example. It keeps your blog looking cleaner and easier to navigate too.
((If you have any more questions or need me to clarify more on something, please don’t hesitate to ask! Good luck!))

SELECTIVE & MUTUALS only.
this is a TEST blog, meaning that I am currently testing this muse
VERY HIGHLY SPORADIC ACTIVITY. My attention wanders all over the place so this blog will remain as low acitvity, If this isn´t ur cup of tea then I would advice to consider again following.
I am not an expert historian so I (politely) ask u to pls understand if in any case I happen to make a mistake, it´s due to that (*꒦ິㅂ꒦ີ)
mun & muse are both +18 (mun is 21 currently!)
Not affiliated with the Fate fandom.
Duplicates & crossover friendly !!
If you are not aware of F.ate as a franchise or the game F.go pls do not feel scared of interacting! there is no need to have prior knowledge about the universe where my muse comes from and if you have any questions i’m always happy to answer !
Alongside this post, please do not assume or dictate me how to write my own muse, this has happened before and it makes me very uncomfortable (*꒦ິㅂ꒦ີ)
Due to his character, this blog will remain as Fewship & very HIGHLY selective. I´m more inclined to ship with friends / people i know / people I can click OOC wise more, yet if you are interested in developing something between our muses, be it platonic or romantic, I am certainly not against that if the chemistry is present ! Aside this, i will not ship with underaged muses nor with underaged muns.
muse does not equal mun & I do not condone my muse´s actions.
And that´s it! apologies if any of these sounded harsh, let´s just respecc each other and have fun! thank u for dropping by!

Feel free to say hi, ask me questions, or chat with me! My DMs are open on Discord, HiveSocial, Pillowfort, and here on Tumblr. My Asks are also open on Tumblr.
I live in the US's EST time zone, but I'm up at odd hours of the day. You can just ask me if I'm online if you feel unsure. I'm a super chatty texter, and I love meeting new people! I also love infodumps, and do not mind at all if people drop in-and-out of conversation without warning. I do the same (●'◡'●) And I also like to help people, whether that's through education on the aspects of accessibility and ableism that I am most familiar with or helping to write alt text or image descriptions for images.
Also also: If my image descriptions and alt text or whatever else are ever insufficient, please do reach out. I do review my own posts very often and try to adjust where I can, but I err pretty often as well. This is not to say that I wish to put the onus on anyone for whom image descriptions and alt text are a necessity or a helpful accommodation, but that I will never be offended by a correction or a suggestion. I know how it feels to attempt to help someone by offering advice on accessibility, or ableism, or other forms of bigotry and getting overwhelming pushback or microaggressions in return. It's exhausting! So I promise to always be open-minded and to never take this sorta criticism personally :)
Important: I've started color-coding and emboldening every other line on lists to help with readability. It helps me substantially. The color isn't as important as the contrast, I think.
My interests include (besides those related to my identities):
stenography (machine shorthand)
transcription and captioning
language learning (Japanese)
webtoons and webcomics
manga, manhua, and manhwa
music (primarily Japanese)
video games
research
coding (beginner)
learning how to draw
accessibility (providing, learning about, and educating about it)
educational materials development (steno)
This blog will focus on providing updates on my studies in stenography, Japanese, drawing, and coding, as well as my adventures on StoryGraph.
Master tags for filtering my posts:
munchlax's musings (ALL posts)
steno update post
adding books to storygraph

PS:
I made this Tumblr ages ago, but never used it until now. My AuDHD brain just suddenly hyperfixated on my old blog, and ta-dah! I've been procrastinating for hours by customizing it! Is it ugly? Yes. I'll keep experimenting with it. I'm not good with... organizing or making things look pretty. Or coding.

𝒓𝒖𝒍𝒆𝒔 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒈𝒖𝒊𝒅𝒆, created 7/19/24 and updated ??? . DOUBLEGRIEF is an extremely selective writing blog for elena and jeremy gilbert, written as my own original characters with intense alterations from their canon timelines. this blog is not roleplay centered and rp is not it's main purpose, however it will appear here from time to time. this blog is a long-term writing project to focus on character study and deep dives between different dynamics and plotlines of the series between my two characters. trigger warnings all over the place, i would not recommend following if you have lots of triggers, including nodding back to the series. this is not a spoiler free zone, primarily focusing on seasons 1-4. you can read my faceclaim disclaimer here. established july'22, revamped july'24. READ ALL CHARACTER INFORMATION AND RULES BEFORE APPROACHING.
MIMI, 25, SHE.
¹ this blog is for adults, please be 21+ when interacting and engaging with me. do not follow if underage or interact with my posts. personals will be blocked.
² all headcanons that are not mentioned in the show are completely my own. i have been writing this portrayal of jeremy and elena since 2022, and i keep it close to my heart. unlike the show, i write their dynamic as messy and filled with moments where either one of them may not look great or like a good person at any given time. jeremy and elena are human, they've experienced loss and they have flaws, and there's no perfect way to grieve. just because i write about either twin in the perspective of the other in a negative light, this does not mean that i do not like that character or that their bond is any less important. (i.e, jeremy hating elena or being resentful towards her or elena thinking jeremy is being entitled and not caring about her feelings). also, as always, mun does not equal muse.
³ not duplicate friendly. if you're a jeremy or elena blog, please do not interact with me, as i'm trying to keep my own interpretations separate from the rest of the rpc. i am not interested in writing dynamics with other jeremys or elenas, as my portrayals are very interwoven with eachother and should not be expected to be changed. if you're a multi and have them on your roster, that is completely fine, just do not approach with them to write with me.
⁴ this is not a roleplay blog, it is a writing blog. any roleplaying that happens here will be through extensive plotting and communication out of character. you are more than welcome to send asks and contact me about writing together with these characters, but please know it is not the full purpose of this blog. if you are going to write with one twin, i ask that you write with the other at some point or include them in threads. they are a package deal. no exceptions.
⁵ please read my character information (or at least some of it) before approaching me to write together. don’t assume anything about my characters or how they will act, don’t godmod or overstep. i’m going to use my block button liberally on this blog, and don’t take it personally if i follow you on all my other blogs but not here.
⁶ i am not mexican, but my muses are. i am always okay with constructive criticism and advice on not leaning into stereotypes. anon will remain off, but don’t hesitate on messaging me directly because i am always okay with being corrected if i am being insensitive or not portraying something correctly. i do research, but as always not everything will be accurate. i do not mean any harm towards any community with my writing. the vampire diaries is a work of fiction, but the impact is much more important than intent.
⁷ this blog is not anti-delena and delves into it from an unbiased standpoint. mun is a stelena shipper, and of course will side with stefan and elena’s relationship above all, but i think delena is worth exploring and i’m not entirely opposed to seeing it. there will be in depth discussions and deep dives into autonomy and being sired to damon, as well as elena’s humanity (and lack there of) being brought into the equation when the time comes in my rewatch.
⁸ i love to ship, but i ship with chemistry and plotting. multiple threads and lots of out of character communication is needed to ship with either twin. friendships are always welcome, and you can always pick a certain episode or arc to plot in for both characters. because this is a writing blog, au’s will have to really be talked about and agreed to.
⁹ lurkers are fine but please know i have problems with paranoia and may soft block if we never interact. it’s not you, its me.
