Hvidovre Hospital has the world's first prototype of a sensor capable of detecting errors in MRI scans using laser light and gas. The new sensor, developed by a young researcher at the University of Copenhagen and Hvidovre Hospital, can thereby do what is impossible for current electrical sensors—and hopefully pave the way for MRI scans that are better, cheaper and faster. The study is published in the journal PRX Quantum. MRI scanners are used by doctors and health care professionals every day to get a unique look into the human body. In particular, they are used to study the brain, vital organs and other soft tissues by way of 3D images of exceptional quality compared to other types of medical imaging.

Okay so skin to skin for babies and parents can help their bonds
But can that apply to siblings as well? I mean im an older brother but I was 3 when my sister was born.
Asking for reference
I'm not a professional at all, so starting with something precious.
A sweet viral photo is touting the benefits of skin-to-skin contact with newborn babies.
Last year, a Danish family advocacy organization called Forældre og Fødsel shared a Facebook photo of a father and young son practicing skin-to-skin contact with newborn twins. Last week, the South Africa-based Facebook page NINO Birth reposted the photo, with the caption translated into English.
The translated caption explains a Swedish practice in which babies around 700 grams (roughly 1.5 pounds) are placed on a parent's bare chest for skin-to-skin contact instead of an incubator.
"A Swedish Professor, Uwe Ewald, came to Hvidovre hospital (Denmark) to talk about his revolutionary practice, where even very small premature babies are taken out of the incubator to be skin to skin with their parents as much as possible," notes the text.
"Uwe Ewald points out that the parent's chest regulates the temperature better than an incubator," the post continues. "Skin-to-skin contact helps the baby to breathe better. The child becomes more calm and gains weight faster. Research shows that parents bacterial flora -- compared with hospital bacteria -- reduces the risk of serious infections in these delicate children." ____________
some of that at the end sounds like hippie stuff, but they're professional baby taker care of ers so deffer to them.
Up next is Stanford, they're smart people I think ______________________
“Skin-to-skin time right after delivery can be a wonderful, strong start for both mother and baby,” says obstetrician Dr. Susan Crowe, a clinical associate professor of obstetrics and gynecology at Stanford School of Medicine. Which is why, whenever possible, Crowe advocates that newborns be placed immediately upon the mother’s abdomen at delivery. (A recent study published in JAMA Pediatrics shows that there may be benefits to waiting, even a few minutes after delivery, to sever the umbilical cord.)
“After the cord is cut, the baby should be moved up to the mother’s chest,” says Crowe. It’s something traditional cultures have always done instinctively and is now understood scientifically as an incredibly beneficial way to welcome a baby for both mother and child. “The skin-to-skin contact causes a release in oxytocin—known as the ‘love hormone’—in the mom. It helps the uterus contract, which reduces bleeding, and also warms up the mother’s body, which comforts the baby and results in less crying and lower rates of hypoglycemia,” Crowe explains.
“Skin-to-skin contact causes a release in oxytocin–known as the ‘love hormone.’”
The rush of oxytocin not only makes Mom a super warm and cozy place for a newborn to nestle, it also enables mothers and babies to recognize each other’s unique scent. In addition, it triggers the newborn’s instinct to find and latch on to the breast—something that everyone thinks is so easy and instinctual for both mother and child, that is, until the moment arrives and the awkwardness is all too real. A 2012 study published in Neonatology showed that 95 percent of mothers who experienced skin-to-skin contact with their newborns were breastfeeding exclusively 48 hours after delivery, and 90 percent continued exclusive breastfeeding six weeks later; yet another reminder of just how important our hormones are in determining how we function. ______________
Keeps going, they don't mention siblings, the also don't mention fathers which other ones do. I would say you're likely to get the same effect regardless of the person's relationship to the newborn/infant so sibling thing would probably be a good and effective thing.

Denmark Work Placement
Hey guys, good news! I've been mentioned on this blog post at http://idlimited.co.uk/denmark-work-placement in relation to my recent European Work Placement over at ID's European Partner, Hvidovre Production School, in Copenhagen, Denmark.
The photo on there includes a selection of the ID Staff and Students who were selected to go onto the trip. Although, the airport securities were tough (with absolutely no love at all), the ID Staff kept us all calm and happy.
I've been in hospital and recovered quickly. However, for what I have experience while being in Denmark is something I'm truly not going to forget; not ever.
I'm very proud and glad to be at ID and for what I have experienced so far, my life's journal is just yet to be written.

Længe leve at forsøge at skrive noget, før du forsøger at skrive noget godt!

exercise + medication helps maintain a weight loss
Weight regain after an initial successful weight loss in people with obesity, is an important and unsolved problem. Until now, no well-documented study on which treatment method is best for maintaining a healthy weight loss has been available. Researchers at University of Copenhagen and Hvidovre Hospital have completed such a study, published in The New England Journal of Medicine. By testing four different types of treatment following a diet-induced weight loss, the researchers demonstrated for the first time how it is possible for people with obesity to maintain a weight loss over the long-term. In a randomized clinical trial, the research group demonstrated an effective treatment after a diet-induced weight loss by combining moderate to vigorous-intensive exercise with an appetite-inhibiting obesity medication (liraglutide), an analogue to GLP-1, a hormone produced in the gut that reduces appetite.
The fight to maintain a weight loss
The problem is that people are fighting against strong biological forces when losing weight. Appetite increases as calorie consumption decreases, counteracting the ability to maintain a weight loss. An appetite-stimulating hormone increases dramatically when we lose weight and, at the same time, the level of appetite-suppressing hormones drops dramatically. What’s more, a weight loss can result in a loss of muscle mass, which reduces the body’s calorie-burning.
About the study
The study involved 215 participants in Denmark with obesity and low fitness ratings. Participants initially followed a low-calorie diet over eight weeks, where they each lost approximately 13 kg (28.6 lbs), which resulted in significant improvements to their blood sugar level and blood pressure. The participants were then randomly divided into four groups. Two of the groups received placebo medication, while the two other groups received obesity medication. Among the two placebo groups, one group followed an exercise program of minimum 150 minutes of physical activity at moderate-intensity or 75 minutes at vigorous-intensity during the week or a combination of the two, while the other group maintained their current level of physical activity. The two groups receiving obesity medication were similarly divided into one group with and one group without an exercise program. All participants in the study were weighed monthly and received nutrition and diet counseling with the focus on healthy weight loss according to the guidelines from the Danish health and food administrations.
Highly efficient when combining treatments
After one year, the group with exercise alone and the group with obesity medication alone maintained the weight loss of 13 kg and health improvements. The placebo group gained half of the weight back with deterioration of all risk factors for development of Type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease. The most dramatic improvements occurred in the combination group, which followed the exercise program and received obesity medication. The researchers observed additional weight loss in this group, and the total weight loss was approximately 16 kg over one year. The health benefits were also double that of each of the single treatments, i.e., twice the loss of fat mass while preserving muscle mass, higher fitness ratings, reduced blood sugar and improved quality of life. The two groups that exercised increased their fitness rating, lost body fat and gained muscle mass. This could indicate a healthier weight loss than for people, who had only lost fat mass without increasing the fitness rating.
Fundamental lifestyle change
The lead researcher points out that many people with obesity have tried to lose weight before, only to regain the weight. “This happens because the general advice is to eat healthier and exercise more. Without follow-up on whether people actually have support to perform exercise, the treatment will not be enough. Therefore, we followed up with the participants on an ongoing basis to ensure that they received the support they needed in order to exercise. That is necessary, because maintaining weight loss is extremely hard. People need to understand this. Once you have lost weight, you are not cured”. He says, “The ongoing exercise and effort will likely need to continue for many years.” The study also demonstrates that without a structured treatment plan, there is a high risk of gaining the weight back. There were 12 individual consultations over the course of a year, including weighing and diet advice from experts. Source: New England Journal of Medicine, May 6, 2021. Early blood test may unravel secrets of pregnancy loss
HVIDOVRE, Denmark
A blood test taken after a miscarriage suffered as early as week five of pregnancy can help explain why it occurred and in some cases lead to preventative treatments, Danish researchers say.
One in 10 women experience pregnancy loss, with the number even higher in countries where pregnancies increasingly occur later in a woman's childbearing years.
Danish gynecologist Henriette Svarre Nielsen and her team of researchers recently published a study in the British journal The Lancet showing that a blood sample taken from the mother soon after a miscarriage as early as the fifth week of pregnancy can determine whether the fetus had a chromosome anomaly.
In Denmark, such tests are usually only offered after a woman has suffered three miscarriages, and only if they occurred after the tenth pregnancy week.
"This is 2023. We are way beyond just counting as the criteria" to investigate why somebody may be prone to pregnancy loss, Svarre Nielsen of Hvidovre hospital near Copenhagen told AFP.
Finding anomalies, predicting risk
Now, as part of an ongoing study, all women who have suffered a miscarriage and visited the Hvidovre hospital emergency room are offered the blood test.
More than 75 percent of them have accepted so far.
"For me it was obvious I would do it. It helps you understand," said one woman who spoke to AFP on condition of anonymity, since she hasn't revealed her pregnancy loss to all of her family and friends.
The blood test is immediately sent to the hospital lab.
The fetus' DNA is then isolated, sequenced and analyzed to see if it carries a chromosome anomaly, which is the case in about 50 to 60 percent of miscarriages.
Doctors can then determine whether some of the anomalies are more serious than others.
"They would also be able to predict the risk" of future miscarriages, lab technician Lene Werge explained, demonstrating a DNA sample with extra copies of chromosome 21, which is linked to Down Syndrome.
If no anomalies are found, doctors then launch a meticulous search for answers.
"We can start to ask the question, 'Is it this? Is it this? Is it this?'" Svarre Nielsen said.
Pregnancy loss can be the result of a hormonal imbalance, endocrinal illnesses, coagulation problems or lifestyle issues.
If an explanation is found, doctors can determine the risks and devise a treatment plan.
Launched in 2020, the project -- dubbed COPL for Copenhagen Pregnancy Loss -- is still underway and is expected to yield a unique database on a wide range of illnesses thanks to the large cohort, numbering 1,700 women so far.
"We will have good data background to actually answer questions properly about pregnancy loss, reproduction, but also women's health in general," Svarre Nielsen said.
'Make the loss matter'
A doctor with more than 20 years' experience, Svarre Nielsen specialized early on in reproductive health and is keen to develop treatments.
"Pregnancy loss is something that's very common, 25 percent of all pregnancies end in a pregnancy loss," she said.
"And even though it's been so common for many, many years, the only focus has been on emptying the uterus after the loss."
She lamented that more effort had not been made to find explanations or support the mental health of couples after a miscarriage.
Rikke Hemmingsen, who suffered three miscarriages before giving birth to two children, told AFP she wished the project would have been around to help her.
"We can use the losses for something else. So the project gives me hope that fewer women have to go through what we went through," she said. "It makes all the grief and all the sadness of every pregnancy loss matter."
Pregnancy loss is often not discussed publicly, and when it is the reactions can be awkward.
"Everyone saying 'this is normal' doesn't make it more normal, or more or less sad to the one it happens to," Hemmingsen said.
The taboo can also make it harder for a couple to get proper treatment.
"We need to start talking more openly about it. Because otherwise, I wouldn't be able to tell people that there are specialists... who can help you," the 39-year-old said.
According to Svarre Nielsen, the study's findings could ultimately help prevent five percent of the 30 million miscarriages seen worldwide annually.

Diamonds to Shed Light on Signals in the Brain
Diamonds to Shed Light on Signals in the Brain
New quantum technology makes it possible to measure much finer and less magnetic signals in human tissue than previously.
The explanation lies in a small diamond sensor—an artificially produced diamond with a built-in defect which enables utilization of one of the basic elements of quantumphysics: superpositions. Superposition means that a particle may be in two different states at the same time;…
