This moment shapes how I interpret where they will go in season 3. In the book, Rhaenyra relies increasingly on Mysaria as her advisor as the war continues. Including during some of the darkest chapters of her reign. I can see the seeds of that here - Rhaenyra committing to a path of taking and holding power by any means necessary and Mysaria supporting her in that, believing that it is justified by the kind of queen Rhaenyra will be (and their apparently now shared belief that the gods have chosen Rhaenyra - very significant that they're on the same page religiously in that, or that Mysaria is choosing to say that she shares that view. With Dae/mon's visions and commitment to Rhaenyra as the ruling queen, that makes three people on this "team" who are all in on mystical fanaticism).
I think it's important that, despite Rhaenyra and Dae/mon's reunion in a prior scene, it is Mysaria who Rhaenyra shares her doubts and moral discomfort with. It is her opinion alone that has that weight. This is due, I believe, both to Mysaria's own history as a low born woman who has suffered due to that, her advocacy for the smallfolk, her support and loyal validation of Rhaenyra, and the long-term fractures of trust in his judgment Rhaenyra had with D/aemon over young Jaehaerys' murder and their prior disagreements over who will "rule" in that relationship.
Rhaenyra is Rhaenyra - she has always craved love and will not deny herself any connection that sustains and comforts her. But I think that, going forward, the "lady wife" role Mysaria can play to her [a role that, as I've argued before in this meta, Rhaenyra seems to crave in her life and has since her youthful bond with Alicent] will be vital to shoring her up, intellectually and emotionally, and that Mysaria's strategic thinking will be important to her as well.
Their bond will be an essential one for Rhaenyra going forward, imo, based on s2 and the book info. I hope the studio is brave enough to let the queerness of that bond be clear as the story continues.
#rhaesaria#rhaenyra targaryen#mysaria of lys#house of the dragon#hotd meta#hotd spoilers#i relate to the way R loves women and don't vibe with her desire for D - but she isn't me#she's a messy fictional woman and#the integrity of her messy character is more important to me#than erasing even the parts of her i do not enjoy...#but she is going to trust mysaria her 'lady wife' first and most over her husband's judgment going forward#based on s2 and how i think they will adapt the book materials imo#and no - i don't think there will be any threesomes#i imagine it will be poly V (two people with one person but not each other) if the powers that be are brave enough to do that#mysaria's time with dae/mon was *sex work* not for pleasure#and rhaenyra would never make her do anything she doesn't wish to do

I dare not speak it in the tag because I value my energy but no one has the correct opinions about nosferatu 2024 except for me
#Everyone has opinions about which parts of nosferatu are the problematic parts and everyone is wrong#Like!!!! I would love to talk about the potential implications of a story#Of a vulnerable young woman taken advantage of by an older more powerful man in her youth#And the lasting impact it has on her life and her relationships especially in the constraints of an 1800âs upper-class society#And how she believes herself âuncleanâ for her new husband because of it#And how said husband very firmly says âno you are not unclean or lesser for what was done to you and I love you no matter whatâ#And how ALL THOSE IMPLICATIONS feel tragically undermined#by the end of the story essentially saying that she HAS to have sex with the older man (and then die) to resolve the problems#And thatâs just. Never challenged really.#Thereâs no twist to it not even some attempt at an angle of empowerment or reclamation of her sexuality or something#yknow that trope of how if we the audience are told the protagonist squads plan that plan is bound to go wrong#We are told the plan and it just happens#No the mustache guy having a breakdown and going to his wifeâs crypt does not count as the plan going wrong#Because we got told the REAL plan that the van helsing stand in and Ellen had behind Thomasâ back#And THAT goes off without a hitch!#The ending just. Happens! And itâs bad that it just happens I think!#But then I go in the tag and thereâs people like âitâs bad cuz they showed tiddyâ#Like guys pls itâs more complicated than that#I was just reminded of the line âI do not need redemptionâ from Ellen and like YES THATS SO RIGHT#but then the story says âthe only way to stop the count is for you to dieâ#And like thereâs also something there about how how much she hates when Thomas gets her flowers at the beginning because theyâre dead#And then at the end the professor scatters cut flowers around her body when she canât tell him no#and like! Thatâs something! I can almost FEEL this movie trying to make its point but it just falls short#You cannot have it both ways you cannot be condemning this unfair treatment of Ellen but also leaving it completely unexamined#âgoddamn you see that shit? That was fucking crazy. Anyway Iâm Robert Eggersâ

idk if it means anything really, but i think it's interesting how after all their time together as a couple in a christianity-adjacent world, lucifer and lilith only had one (1) child, and it was only 200 years ago at that
#for a show based on a religion notorious for the expectation put on women to become mothers (especially at a young age)#(and in certain extreme cases the only real role of a woman being essentially that of a breeding tool/incubator)#it's a neat detail (though quite likely unintentional) that the Ultimate 1 Most Horrible Sinner Couple betrayed heaven's rules#then went on to have a long (happy? generally successful?) relationship without needing/rushing to have children#presumably satisfied with one another rather than feeling obligated to make themselves âusefulâ#I feel it really highlights exactly the sort of differences that came of lilith choosing lucifer over adam#like no wonder amirite.#freedom for lilith was as small and inherent a thing as bodily autonomy (đ); as getting to have a relationship where she can be loved for#who she is instead of what services she can provide#the show obviously mentions this a lot in other ways but to me a main example of this is the childlessness in their marriage#again idk if it means much but i haven't seen this talked about much i know this specifically is not talked about in the show either#but it's a pretty obvious deviation from what christianity teaches women and what lilith would have especially known to be her role at the#beginning of humanity where they needed to do a lot of ~populating~#even nowadays the expectation for women to become wifes and be subservient to their husbands & the role of sex being purely reproductive#all that time but only 1 kid & so late too just goes to show how absent those roles + rules + expectations were once lilith rejected adam#(and therefore heaven)#which. the detail itself can be interpreted in different ways as can the reaction to this particular interpretation. but personally i'm just#happy for her that she (perhaps/presumably/temporarily) got to experience a loving relationship based on mutual respect and equality etc.#so like good for her#this doesnt really have a point i just thought it was a cool detail#rant post#shitpost#kind of#hazbin hotel#lucilith#i am not trying to generalize christianity itself here btw#and when i say extreme cases i do mean *extreme* as i know it's not reflective of the religion as a whole or it's principles#but in the hellaverse specifically it does seem like those teachings and mentalities and heavily unequal gender roles *were* meant to exist#so the specific lack of their fulfillment with lucilith seems important

yall don't know platonic yearning like I do đ¤
#all i want is a friend i can build a life with#we'll sleep in separate beds but occasionally we'll both get up for a late night snack at the same time and giggle about it#we'll call each other husband or wife while also having our freedom to seek out sex or romance outside of our partnership#there will always be someone to come home to and i won't feel the stifling pressure to perform romance for them#i want my future kids to be raised in love and friendship#i want them to know that they don't have to be a certain way in order to be loved#i want someone to hold my hair when im sick and let me cry on their shoulder when things are hard and stick up for me when i need it#i may never have this and it hurts my heart#ive told myself that being a single parent would make me happy because ill be happy as long as im not in a romantic relationship#but i don't know if thats actually true#ive resigned myself to that as a possoble future for me because being a parent is improtant to me#but there's this loneliness inside of me that I don't know I'll ever be able to get rid of#i thought i had a chance at the life i want with my ex and thats why i held on so long as tried to ignore all of our incompatibilities#but at the end of the day#hes a hopeless romantic and will always want the intense romantic love i can never give him and i will always resent those expectations#i wish things were different#personal#vent#aro tag#aromantic#platonic yearning#queerplatonic relationship#feel free to ignore but if you see this and also feel this way I'd love to commiserate :')

it's just that sometimes you're so... impossibly happy and full of so much incredible joy that you gotta post about it on the internet otherwise you may get on the roof with a bullhorn yknow.
#gav gab#FEELING VERY GOOD ABOUT MANY THINGS RN.......#I LOVE MY WIFE. MY WIFE LOVES ME. WE KNOW EXACTLY WHAT THAT MEANS AND IT BELONGS TO US.#other option is like... dropping the lonely island 'i just had sex' song into my friends' dms lsdkjfs#and they don't need me to be doing that LMAOOOO#it's not just the sex itself that's not even really the point#(though it's. very very good. and i have now learned some ALARMING stats about straight women in relationships)#(ladies if your husband/bf/partner won't take direction that is a failure on his part frankly)#it's like... idk#intimacy. trust. fun. security. safety. etc. all these things i already had with this wonderful person in my life#and being able to decide together what we want to do and what we want it to mean#building something that's just ours. a life a home a relationship etc.#for all that there's no like. blueprint for marrying someone In A Friend Way#and that can be anxiety inducing#(i felt like my heart was gonna pound out of my chest the first time i brought up maybe kissing my fiancee lskdjfs)#it also means we get to make all the rules#we get to make all of our decisions together in whatever way we want to make them and it means what we want it to#and i think that's one of the really wonderful things about like. qprs and committed platonic relationships etc#and it's something romantic relationships could benefit from too tbh#sex ment in tags

Zeus probably uses the phrase "making love" all these time. Like Hera will just be like "yo I wanna fuck" and he just bats his eyes like "you mean make love" and she has to count to three otherwise she's just gonna whack him, like, bro take off your pants and get on the bed, you got two minutes before the mood changes, you really wanna be pouting about phrasing right now?
(and then his baby mama of the week says "let's make love" and he just "haha no no, it's called fucking when we do it and nothing more, now show me your titties" because "making love" is for Hera only and he will get weirdly enraged if you keep using it after he said to stop)
#happy talks greek mythos#hera#zeus#concept that hera doesn't care if his hoes of the month use the phrase because it's the same thing either way#and they're already spitting in her face by fucking her husband and having his babies - like what does it matter what they call it#but zeus definitely makes a big deal out of it because while conceptually the sex isn't really any different#the phrasing is key to him (because autism lol) and he does not love his boyfriends and girlfriends the way he loves his wife#ergo only hera his beloved wife gets to hold the use of that phrase when it comes to him and sexy times

yeah like. if Roy and riza get married itâs half fake marriage to trap each other in misery self harm style and half being genuinely in love. insane of them
no exactly because they don't love each other really and they don't even hate each other really (except for the ways they do) they just. are each other. you don't love your liver or your heart or your lungs they're just a part of you. and they're just a part of each other. but they should never ever get married
#i think like. what it really comes down to is marriage for them being wrapped up in Ideas and Wants#and that's not something the other person is ever going to be equipped to provide#i do think royâraised in a brothelâdoes have secret dirty fantasies about being a man with a desk job#and a pretty little wife to come home to and have missionary sex with who tells him everything he did was good and justified#and that he just loves his country#and i think riza conversely has these wantsâthat she would never admit to herself#because she's just not the sort of person to ever think about it long enough to ever be able to articulate it#and I think those wants comprise a handsome dark haired husband and children to love quietly and fully#and a new apartment that she's constantly renovating and keeping absolutely tidy (nothing like the home she grew up in)#and in this fantasy she was never a soldierâjust a secretary maybeâand her husband is an artist#and anyways. what it all comes down to for both of them. is that the other person can't ever be who they'd want to be married to#and they can't ever be the sort of person that someone would marry#and they'd make themselves utterly miserable trying to do it anyways#fmab#asks#anon#roy mustang#riza hawkeye

The ultimate form of love is to see no difference between the self and the beloved.
âEmily Wilson's Introduction to The Iliad
#emily wilson#the iliad#this is part of her section re: achilles and patroclus#she says that because of the genre of the poem romantic love is not a big concern#so there's no real urgency in the narrative to clarify if the nature of Achilles and Patroclus' relationship is romantic#but that what the poem IS very interested about is in intimacy#for homer intimacy and sex are not the same#both patroclus and achilles often wake up next to slaves#but also wake up next to each other#they share a tent the way a wife and husband would#they share the furniture and the slaves and even when achilles has people over#patroclus cooks for everyone the way a wife would#for this homeric poem what matters the most is that the love between achilles and patroclus is such that one is the same as the other#for achilles; losing patroclus is the same as losing himself#the line of when one begins and the other ends is blurred#this is what matters to the poem when it comes to achilles and patroclus' love

discovery of the day
#im sorry i do Not see what everyone sees in this movie. although from the years of browsing the internet ive began to realize#that i actually dont know if people actually like the movie or not#why is everything so rushed#their romance felt like nothing to me because i dont KNOW what they see in eachother#listen you dont have to tell me straight up into the camera why they love eachother#but the aggressive kissing and cut sex scenes arent telling me much#i get that it came out in 2005 but cutting mostly every gay sex scene? even the kissing for the most part?#but oh we NEED to see this happy husband and wife doing it. yes im bitter#a german movie by the name of summer storm came out the year before this one and actually shows something that feels like actual passion#i sound like i need to see people doing it in these movies all the time I promise thats not it#but even the kissing? the thing i Actually like the most? the thing that makes me feel things? felt like nothing at all#and oh i forgot that this is a tragic gay movie where one of them dies. Oh yeah. forgot.#mentioning summer storm again: it actually has a relatively happy ending. feels good that i dont need to be reminded of how gay people are#doomed 24/7.#the romance started good. with jack telling the guy whos name i already forgot to get his ass in the tent already.#the Pulling his arm over my body thing. it was going great#THEN IT WENT SO FAST! WHY WAS HE SUDDENLY SO INTO IT! WHY WERE THEY BOTH SUDDENLY DOING IT#im sorry i expected a slighter slow burn than this!!! calm down cowboys i have no idea why you two like eachother all of the sudden!#i seriously thought they would show these little moments of tension#and it just growing bigger and bigger#until they couldnt take it anymore#that would explain the aggressiveness of it! why they were so desperate! but it literally just HAPPENED!!!!!!!!!#im sorry i. I expected more of this movie that i hear so much about.#the most it made me feel was at that moment that turned into a meme where i thought âHop on fortniteâ#chuckled. that was it. did i cry? did my heart race at any moment? was i worried about what was gonna happen? not Once#im so. Disappointed.#after this i wanted to watch summer storm but netflix removed it. Its a german only movie no one knows from 2004. where the hell am i gonna#đ´ââ ď¸ that#AAAGHHHH!!!!!!!#not being able to watch summer storm made me cry more than this movie did What the hell

Play for Today: Evelyn (BBC, 1971)
"Do you ever get the feeling you're cracking up?"
"Do you?"
"Well, I - I was asking you."
"It's your birthday."
"Oh, I don't have birthdays anymore, I stopped having birthdays a long time ago."
"You're forty."
"That was a very cruel thing to say."
#play for today#evelyn#single play#bbc#1972#rhys adrian#piers haggard#edward woodward#angela scoular#phyllida law#edward de souza#charles bolton#graeme macdonald#Adrian originally wrote Evelyn as a radio playâ first broadcast on BBC radio 4 in 1969; it was a successâ winning prizes and#considerable critical acclaim. it is alsoâ thoâ very much a radio play: consisting almost entirely of bedroom conversations between just#two charactersâ as well as phone calls. a challenging thing to adapt for televisionâ and this PfT version does seem to have come in for#some criticism bc of its reliance on mannered stylized dialogue (as well as fairly frequent nudityâ a non issue on radio of course but#fairly unusual on british tv in 1971). it is manneredâ it is very much not 'natural' in performance and feels very stagey in that specific#mid century wayâ but i dont think it's an unsuccessful bit of tv. Eddy boy is an anonymous business type obsessed with his age and gripped#by midlife crisis; he's having an affair with the youngerâ seemingly more free spirited Scoularâ herself married. their artificial bliss#(much repetition of 'i do love you' and how 'wonderful' the sex is) is undermined by the fact that she still loves her husbandâ and also#loves several other young men she has also taken as lovers. Woodward's quiet gnawing paranoia and haunted feelings of inadequacy are#beautifully playedâ as is the gradual revelation of Scoular's rather shallow nature (she repeats the same lines and declarations of love#verbatim to other men on the phone)â as is Woodward's difficulty in reconciling his hypocrisy; he invents a fictional girlfriendâ Evelynâ#to try and make Scoular jealous and presumably more possessive of him. it's a rather bleak little thingâ although frequently quite witty#and the performances are all quite excellent. it also feels very 1970s in its foregrounding of Woodward's insecurity overâ for exampleâ the#feelings of (or effect on) his wife (a sharply written P Law who makes just two brief appearances at the very beginning and end)#it won't be to many modern viewers tastes i supposeâ but this does have.. something. and at the very least Eddy gets to do his mildly#neurotic thing without it having the underlying sense of brittle violence (just mildly pathetic middle aged angst)#PfT would move away from this style of drama as the series developedâ favouring social realism over theatrical artifice

I interrupt your Endeavour-related angst to remind you of this, everyone's favourite totally-not-a-Douglas-in-a-happy-life-AU.
#Conversations from a Long Marriage#I haven't listened to it yet#no spoilsies#no wait I'll guess#wife will be annoying in a loving and barely-concealed selfless way#husband will say something sarcastic in a slow gravelly drawl#wife will propose sex#husband will vaguely pretend he doesn't want to have sex or isn't very good at it#wife will invoke an anecdote about how he is in fact good at sex#they'll allude to doing something mad/raunchy/implausible in the 60s#peter will be useless or not useless and sally will have feelings about it#some other friends will either have a quiet beer or a personal drama that puts things into perspective#NO WAIT#THERE'S A DOG NOW#all 28 minutes must be about the dog

Dislike how explicit bls have made it so its not a bl unless two men are ripping each others clothes off and fucking on every available surface in my opinion a true bl is where the symbolism is in how they drink their wine, if they talk about the red thread of fate, if flowers fall from the sky when they meet, and in how their hands brush one (1) time in episode 26
#kinnporsche has nothing on lwj and wwx on the steps of koi tower actually#and certainly its got nothing on wenzhou linking hands and drinking wine like theyre at their wedding#like okay they had sex. and what?#where are the memorable lines the way lwjs eyes tell you everything hes thinking the way wheb wkx says wife u know he means zzs is husband#like#this might be me being demi but can we go back to subtext i dont actually want to see some dude try to jack kinn off under a table with his#feet#i just want that 'subtlety' free had when they had rin do the anime girl love interest turn when haru professed his undying love#and i want the flirtation through poetry bc no one can say outright that they are flirting#also tian guan ci fu live action and s2 when i loved that#sharing bedrolls cleaning houses together the husband symbolism in ep 1#excellent brilliant#link click? two guys living together going mad when ones in danger the tsundere one and the cutesy one !!!#what im getting at is i dont mind sexy scenes so long as theyre there for a reason and not just fanservice#and yes wwx shoving a sword up his ass did nothing for plot or symbolism BUT but we got a good 300 pages of pining BEFORE he did that#and when i see edits of mdzs its always the really loving scenes between them#but when i see kinnporsche edits its just them fucking ive seen way too much of those 2 men making out#and i dont like it#where is the emotional substance#like yeah we know wenzhou spent the rest of their days in that cave fucking like rabbits#but also we got 36 episodes and like 5 deaths at least out of it#like before you get to the sex#build up a good plot and good characters#idk#i miss old bls i guess i miss when bl meant boys LOVE not bloys LOVEMAKING is that so much to ask for

aaa my local library has the dvds of the 1980 p&p series, But both have been borrowed! wondering if i should reserve them now or after i finish rewatching the 1995 one (i finally got up to it, and it's lovely, but my old laptop has a bit of a matte screen situation going on, so the colors don't look as saturated as the ough to be; it would look the best on my mother's computer or tv, but for that i'd have to add polish subtitles, and i downloaded them but alas! they don't work, probably because it's a dvd thing. SIGH)
#also i'm slowly nearing the end of emma and it might be my failing but i can't really see how emma and mr knightley could end up married#and in love. like. if their influence over each other was more visible through the book? but they're hanging out and they like each other#but while she's smart and not really your typical suffering husband's silly chatterbox of a wife... he does end up coming up more observant#than her. and the way he (rightfully) points out her mistakes to her... it just feels much more 'older relative' or 'a teacher' than#'future husband'! but again. might be v much my lack of observation skilsl#i remember i was reading hnzs like... 2011? so i was around 14 at that time And after reading a new chapter i said i was surprised#the characters had sex because it just seemed too sudden for their current relationship status#and an older mutual whom i kindasorta admired was like oh interesting! i didn't think it was sudden at all it felt very fitting!#and reader i was MORTIFIED#it only became apparent to me Years later that other people don't consider sex something that happens with people you know and trust well#and are sure they won't idk. make fun of your body or something. it turned out that people really do fuck complete strangers!#fascinating. hurtful but fascinating#etc.#shrimp thoughts
