Everyone always says "Howard Shore didn't have to go that hard for the LOTR soundtrack" but no one ever talks about the soundtrack for The Hobbit! Are you kidding! It's amazing! It's beautiful! It brings tears to my eyes! It's so good!

it utterly fucks me up that in the movies when frodo finishes writing the red book, the music that plays is the starting notes of the breaking of the fellowship

An incomplete list of movies where the composers did NOT have to go that hard
How To Train Your Dragon (2010) - I put Test Drive on my study playlist but I can never focus to it bc I'm too busy ascending. what is that motif and why does it do that to me. I've never even seen the movie.
Tarzan (1999) - nothing has ever affected me more than 80s pop star Phil Collins singing about a boy raised by gorillas
Lord of the Rings (2001-2003) - no explanation needed.
let me know which ones I missed lol

Oh noo im LoTRscoreposting again anyways at the end of RotK, when Frodo’s saying “how do you pick up the threads of an old life” etc etc, the accompanying chords to the shire theme are playing but the melody is gone. The shire is physically there but it is empty and Frodo can never regain the joy and innocence and security it once held do you SEE-

31.08.2034 - Dusting off my very much neglected musical knowledge to read Doug Adams's The Music of the Lord of the Rings Films. It's a beautifully nerdy book and gives me an excellent excuse to listen to the complete recordings for each of the films again. I'm just over half way through Fellowship at the moment and very much enjoying myself.
Currently reading: The Music of the Lord of the Rings Films by Doug Adams; Morality Play by Barry Unsworth

it's something I didn't notice consciously before reading it in the LOTR soundtrack book by Doug Adams, but Howard Shore's music really does have this constant breathing-like quality, it goes up and down, up and down, there and back again All The Time. now I look for it every time I listen to various fragments of the soundtrack and it's always somewhere there

I cannot get over how "The Road Goes Ever On…, pt. 1" makes me feel. Like, seriously. It's one of those pieces of music that just grabs you by the soul and doesn't let go. Every time I listen to it, I'm hit with this enormous wave of nostalgia, even if it's for places and times I've never known. It's like the motives tap into some deep, longing, longing for the Sea maybe? For Middle Earth for sure. That I want to sit on the couch in Barad Eithel under the blanket with hot tea and be told by Fingon or Maedhros that everything will be ok. (Yep thread verse reference once again because I have to)
I want to cry everytime. Howard Shore what have you done.
