Nico Parker discussing the live-action How To Train Your Dragon movie, which is currently filming and will release in summer 2025.
I’m still not entirely convinced on the necessity of a live action but I love that she’s having a good time filming it, and she’s right - if it sucks, the animated trilogy still exists and will always be beloved.

Serenade from Sordid and Snail
@sordidmusings I miss you already, sweet lady 😭. Your skills as a pianist, your generosity, and your friendship mean so so much to me and I thank you for all you've done for me and my family.
This is what we arranged for my baby brother and sister in law's wedding as she walked down the aisle.
Songs: "For the Dancing and the Dreaming" - How to Train Your Dragon 2 & "High King and Queen of Narnia" - The Chronicles of Narnia
@feral-artistry @writingmysanity @gingernut1314 @i-am-vita @cinnbar-bun @carrotsunshine - just in case you were curious to hear.
@since-im-already-here - we have to plan a trip to the states 🥹🥹🥹. Oct 2025 for birthdayween? Considering the time difference between Australia and America, my birthday would be on Halloween 🎃. A 31st on the 31st would be pretty rad. That way you'd be 21 💃🥂

WIP Questionnaire
Tagged by @winglesswriter here!
Gently tagging: @bee-barnes-author @mysticstarlightduck @mister-writes @pandoras-comment-box @ahordeofwasps @theprissythumbelina and an open tag. Blank questions below the cut!
For the Guardians of Eternity Series:
1. What is the first part of your WIP that you created?
The initial idea was about a magical bear of some sort that would appear and guide people to a magic forest. The story grew from that one idea.
2. If your story was a TV show, what would the theme song/intro be?
Instrumental, for sure. I really like Bear McCreary (Outlander, Godzilla, Rings of Power, etc.) and Lorne Balfe (His Dark Materials, Wheel of Time), so I’d be happy with any composer with similar vibes.
3. What are your favorite characters that you made? Why?
My creatures! My cute little guys 💜 I love them so much. But I love each of my MC’s equally—it’s impossible for me to choose. I’d say I have the most fun with Adrin, but my best writing is with Hettie.
4. What other pieces of media do you think your fan base would share?
If you like anything character-driven with found family, magical creatures and fantasy worlds where nothing is ever what it seems, you’ll vibe with me. I’ve taken inspiration from a lot of my fave shows/books, so there’s something for everyone.
5. What has been your biggest struggle with your WIP?
Everything. Tomb of Light is the first novel I have ever attempted to write, and the first time I’ve written fantasy. It’s hard to know when to let loose and when to pull back—which is how I’ve learned that I am an underwriter. Big time.
6. Are there any animals in your story? Talk about them!
Creatures!!! Hell yeah! I made a post here about them.
7. How do your characters get around? (Ex. Trains, horses, cars, dragons, etc.)
By foot or by horse (except Adrin, who is afraid of horses. He walks everywhere. Like a fool.)
8. What part of your WIP are you working on right now?
I have started outlining and writing the sequel to ToL, The Forest’s Embrace! In addition, I am also working on ToL’s first round of edits (which is very hard without alpha readers).
9. What aspects (tropes, maybe) of your WIP do you think will draw people in?
I have a hero to antagonist arc that is essentially an exploration of grief following trauma and a toxic relationship. That is what I think will help my story stand out from other fantasy stories—the magic is really just an instrument that helps the characters heal. (That is the most boiled down explanation I can give.)
10. What are your hopes for your WIP?
I would love to query ToL by 2025 and have it published within the next few years. For right now, I just want more people to connect with the story and see it for what it can be one day.

Okay so this is a pretty basic rant, but what I want to know is that am I justified in this opinion or am I just being racist?
We all know that the "How To Train Your Dragon" movie live action adaptation is set to hit cinemas in 2025, June 15 right?
Well I googled the cast today for the hell of it.
I was pretty happy to see that Hiccup would be played by Jay Baruchel, they look alike enough.
My issue is with Astrid's actress.
America Ferrera's acting skills aren't something I can give an opinion on, purely because I haven't watched any shows it movies with her in it. But here my issue is with her looks.
It's one thing to make inclusive live actions. It's one thing to show that times are moving forward.
I had a hard time swallowing Leah being Annabeth too, until I accepted it and now love her wholeheartedly, but I feel like doing the same with Astrid is a step too far.
The fair skinned, blonde VIKING girl living in the northern hemisphere in and around snowy islands and icy seas, being played by a brown American actress???
And again, I just want to reiterate that I am brown myself, but again, I just don't get it. At this point this doesn't even feel like they are trying to be inclusive, it just feels like they know they've messed up in the past so now they're trying willy-nilly to overcompensate for it by shoving things like this down our throats.
Let Astrid be blonde. Let her be fair and white. Let our childhood stay true to itself, that's all I'm saying.

For 'THE BEAST IN THE GLASS HOUSE':
1. What is the first part of your WIP that you created?
The outline. I was at a client's house, dog siting for a week, and I just finished reading ROSEMARY'S BABY by Ira Levin. I put down the book, and thought about the gaslighting aspect of the novel, and how scary that is. Then TBITGH appeared in my brain, whole and grown like Athena herself.
2. If your story was a TV show, what would the theme song/intro be?
Idk about the song, but the direction would be very much like the intro from the first season of the sopranos. Probably it'd be the drive from Damon's office, to Freya's apartment, then to her work. It'd end on Damon putting sunglasses and a mask on.
3. What are your favorite characters that you made? Why?
I hate Damon. He's such a loser so I don't count him as a character LMAO. My favs will have to be Freya or JJ. My love for Freya is hard to explain without spoiling the book lol. To be vague, it's her character arc. For JJ, I love how he ends up and how he develops as a character. Again, can't say much without spoiling.
4. What other pieces of media do you think your fan base would share?
This q kinda confuses me? Like what other shows/books would ppl like if they like my work? Well, my book is for fans of stalker horror (such as YOU by Caroline Kepnes and MISERY by Stephen King). If you're looking for the inspiration of the male love interest, check out THE VAMPIRE DIARIES tv show (seasons 1-3~, the rest are garbageeee), TWLIGHT (both the books and movies, specifically MIDNIGHT SUN), 50 SHADES OF GREY (I've only read the first book so I can't vouch for the movies, but the book is meh-to-bad imo)
5. What has been your biggest struggle with your WIP?
Honestly, writing this thing has been a breeze. I wrote the first draft in under four months. It just flowed out of me. It's this whole 'getting ppl to read it' thing that's the hardest.
6. Are there any animals in your story? Talk about them!
Werewolves! Mentions of squirrels. The mc is a werewolf and he's a werewolf supremacist. Werewolves on the brain 24/7 baybeeee.
7. How do your characters get around? (Ex. Trains, horses, cars, dragons, etc.)
They run on all fours in wolf form, go around on two legs in human form and a special wolf form, drive cars, and drive snow mobiles.
8. What part of your WIP are you working on right now?
The manuscript is done. I'm just waiting on the last edits from a paid editor. Once I do those rewrites, I'll put this up for publishing. Aiming to launch mid June 2025!
9. What aspects (tropes, maybe) of your WIP do you think will draw people in?
Incomplete list: soulmates/instant-love, every werewolf/shape shifter trope under the moon (couldn't help it), billionaire boyfriend, stalker 'romance'. Every 'bad boy boyfriend' trope. I loooove taking tropes and turning them on their heads.
10. What are your hopes for your WIP?
To publish! I'd love it to go gangbusters but my primary hope is just to have ppl read it 'XD

They’re apparently making a live action how to train your dragon which sounds like a disaster but I am so curious about how toothless will be designed. Very curious to see that. It’s coming out in march 2025

$58m+ weekend estimate for KUNG FU PANDA 4...
That beats the openings of the other two sequels (using KUNG FU PANDA 2's $47m 3-day opening, not its whole Memorial Day weekend take), sits nicely below the $60m opening weekend gross of the first movie. All the way back in 2008, without 3D or DBOX or today's ludicrous ticket prices. Still, impressive!
Really held its own nicely against DUNE: PART TWO's second weekend, too. Packed showtimes yesterday at work, so packed that the other animated family film option - also a Universal movie, MIGRATION - was packed down to the front row as well.
Given how well it was doing, the estimates - some project - might be a little on the low side. If this indeed tops $60m, and maybe even KUNG FU PANDA's opening weekend gross... This will be DreamWorks' first film to top that amount on opening weekend since MADAGASCAR 3: EUROPE'S MOST WANTED. All the way back in 2012.
As such, it is still the company's biggest domestic opening since HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON: THE HIDDEN WORLD in 2019. COVID-19 really cut into some of the Comcast-era DreamWorks movies at the box office, and while theaters have been back for a while, a lot of DreamWorks' output now plays the same long game other animated movies have been playing as of late: Open small, have ludicrous legs. KUNG FU PANDA 4, being part of an iconic series that's over 15 years old now, obviously was poised to open a lot higher than - say - THE BAD GUYS. If DreamWorks fired up another sequel to an old favorite, like MADAGASCAR, I'm sure it'd open similarly.
(Remember when MADAGASCAR 4 was penciled in for a 2018 release over 10 years ago? Pepperidge Farm remembers...)
Also, I won't be surprised if - within a few months or so - KUNG FU PANDA 5 gets etched onto the schedule for a 2027 release.
Elsewhere in Universal and Jack Black animated movie land, it was announced today - MAR10 Day - that the new SUPER MARIO BROS. animated movie is in the works. Directors Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic return to the helm, to no one's surprise.
Tumblr media
An untitled affair, and described kind of as a new movie and not so much a direct sequel? Well, whatever it is, it's debuting April 3, 2026. Much like the first movie, an early April 2023 release that went on to become one of the highest-grossing animated movies of all-time... So we have a date for that, but not whatever studio Illumination is serving up in 2025. Maybe they'll take that year off? Who knows. We have DESPICABLE ME 4 this coming summer, and then there's a gap in the schedule til this new Mario movie.
Universal's animation schedule so far. Looks like a powerhouse!
7/3/2024 - DESPICABLE ME 4 (Illumination)
9/20/2024 - THE WILD ROBOT (DreamWorks)
1/31/2025 - DOG MAN (DreamWorks)
8/1/2025 - UNTITLED (DreamWorks)
9/26/2025 - UNTITLED (DreamWorks)
4/3/2026 - UNTITLED MARIO MOVIE (Illumination)
9/25/2026 - UNTITLED (unknown at the moment, likely DreamWorks)
Three DreamWorkses in 2025, most of which are likely outsourced to Sony Imageworks, that DOG MAN movie will probably be a Mikros collaboration like CAPTAIN UNDERPANTS was. Fitting, both being based on Dav Pilkey books. I have a feeling we'll get an Illumination in there somewhere, either a summer picture (SECRET LIFE OF PETS 3? Some original movie?) or a near-Christmas SING threequel. That is, if Paramount moves THE SEARCH FOR SQUAREPANTS from that slot. I don't know at the moment. We also have that third LEGO MOVIE still, that's got its directors, release could be anytime at this point.
