Commenting about my interpretation of Teruki's parents: I think they had the Chernobyl level combination of being deeply insecure people who believed they HAD to have children to prove they were "real adults" and being the kind of people that found it harmless to give their child the bare minimum if he seemed like he was okay with it.
They thought their son automatically would have a perfect life if he met the stereotypical "happy kid criteria" (ex: having the highest grades, being popular, being the best player on the team), and as a consequence, became terribly negligent about anything else. In other words, they wanted a model child without putting actual effort on their wellbeing.
It becomes even worse after Teruki awakens, because the Hanazawas believe his psychic powers make him special. It's just that their idea of special is "being excellent without giving them trouble". So they use his status as an esper to justify their negligence because, "well, Teruki is a very responsible young man and if anything bad happens he can use his powers". Strangers tried to harm him on the street? How horrible, but he can defend himself anyway so it isn't that bad. Their career is keeping them away from their son? Not an issue; they're doing this to guarantee he'll have a good life and nothing changed about his results. Teruki wants to live by himself? Amazing; he is so competent for his age that they don't need to worry about a thing. They are so proud of their son!
The worst part is that all of this coexists with the fact that the Hanazawa parents CARE about Teruki. They genuinely like him and are proud of him, but they cannot process the idea that it's possible to be a horrible parent while loving your child. And just like Teruki used to be, they are very defensive. The Hanazawas are so fixated on "doing things right" that they get aggressive with the slightest implication that they are mistaken, because "what do you mean, we've been following all the rules!". It makes it so obvious that it's more about themselves than about Teruki.
Instead of accepting that they've been negligent about their son's feelings and needs, they choose to be oblivious. Stupidly oblivious. Of course there is nothing wrong with allowing a middle schooler to live alone. Look how great he is doing. If he needed anything else he'd be ungrateful. And their facade of a perfect family is so absurd once you know a little about Teruki's living situation that it makes you want to tear your hair off. What do you mean you're doing everything right, this 14 year old has mental illnesses I didn't even KNOW that were possible for a human being to develop. How don't you know about that. How did you even manage to do that.
#it's important to me to emphasize that the hanazawa parents share part of teruki's mental issues. it make sense#mp100#mob psycho 100#teruki hanazawa#lalá rambling...

Thinking about reigen and mob again. A bit sleepy so this'll read really oddly.
Do you ever just think about how reigen doesn't actually know how much influence he's given to mob since day one. Like he always claims he's his mentor and always says he's given mob the best advice anyone ever could in his position, but i don't think he even believes it.
I'm a firm believer that reigen doesn't believe in his own lies. He may come off as confident when spewing them out and he knows he can fool others but he can't fool himself. That's what his character's all about; he knows he's a fraud. It's his career, fgs. He knows nothing he says is ever true and he hates himself for it.
So i don't think he fully realises how much his words stuck to mob. It was literally the back bone of the series' arcs. NONE of the things that happened would have happened or been the way that it was if reigen had never met mob and taken up his role as a 'mentor' of sorts. Mob actually learnt more from reigen than he could ever believe. Mob wouldn't have approached any of the villains with compassion and no intent to harm them if it wasn't reigen who told him not to use his powers against people/for harmful purposes. Mob wouldn't have such a strong moral ground (or, well, as strong) if reigen hadn't told him being a good person was enough the first day they met. Even in the hanazawa teruki arc it was CLEAR that his actions stemmed from reigen's words.
Reigen is (mostly) the reason mob is the way that he is. He literally helped shape mob to becoming a better person and he doesn't even fully realise it. That's why he's an important character that drives the plot even if subtly. Which is also why I'm a little upset that the series treats him as comic relief a majority of the time and why i hold the separation arc so, so very close to my chest because it gives us so much depth to reigen's character.
Another reason the separation arc was really important to the story is cos there's an almost-parallel in the way reigen told mob he just needed to be a good person to be enough and the scene where mob told him that he sees reigen as who he is: a good person. And it just twists and pulls at my heartstrings how the words probably meant so much for someone with such low self-esteem. That scene is absolutely VITAL because it was probably one of the reasons reigen confronted and revealed his 'true self' to mob in the ???% arc.
It's because he realises mob sticks with him despite everything because mob views him as a good person, not because of the lie that he's also a psychic or the empty promise that'd he'd be an exceptional mentor to develop and train mob's powers. And i fully believe reigen feels the same way towards mob; maybe at first he had used him and his powers, but along the line he clearly grows affection and cares about mob too deeply and doesn't see him differently with or without his powers.
And that realisation is what led to mob calming down when he went berserk in the ???% arc. And isn't it just brilliant how that's literally the same thing mob's been doing to other villains???
Two common themes in the series are 1. Second chances and 2. Emotional repression and (eventually) connection/revelation. In most of the arcs mob gives the antagonists a 'second chance' to become a better person and make them want to choose a better path by emotionally connecting to them, like how he shows teru he doesn't need his powers to have some semblance of 'worth' or how he shows suzuki that they are one and the same and choosing a better path won't ruin your life or make it any less good.
I say 'emotional repression' as a common theme because there are characters who shut their feelings out and instead fill The Void with other things (Dimple wanting recognition/acknowledgement and thinking he could achieve that through becoming a god) or characters who want to seem like they're Worth Something (Teru, Suzuki, other (ex) Claw members) or having the desire to seem like a better person and thus hide their true selves/put on a facade due to incredibly low self-esteem (Reigen). Mob made them all realise they don't need to do the things they do in favour of fulfilling that negative, unprocessed feelings.
There is an irony in the way that it also applies to mob. He's been repressing his powers his whole life because he loathes and is fearful of that part of himself, and if that's not a metaphor to emotional repression then I don't know what is. And reigen ALSO loathing a part of himself led to the confrontation scene at the climax of the ???% arc because mob sees himself REFLECTED in reigen and knows it takes courage to reveal that part and accept it as part of yourself which means that he's ALLOWED to embrace that part of himself TOO and it's just. That parallel between their characters is just. I'm. I am so. I just. And it's just. I think it. I just. It's very. I. Does this even. Does this. Make any sense. Can anyone hear me. Hello is anyone there do you see what i'm trying to say here guys im literally breaking down over this please oh my god can't you see how much fucking. How this is. Can't you see do you get it do you understand CAN ANYONE HEAR ME

Finished another amazing series Mob Psycho 100
And it was a exceptional experience y’all, ( Spoilers a head for the non telepaths and psychics)
So the last season I heard it was just meh till the end from my friends who whatched it and DAMN they were dead wrong on that mark I LOVE BEGINNING TO END THIS SEASON
Want to talk about each arc that blown me away
Which I don’t have a single clue what the fandom name these arcs so I gonna make some simple names for it
Back to mob arc (1-3 episode)
Was really amazing as a starter for what to come for those school elements that was every episode that was ther. I related to mob so good dam hard that first episode from just his fear of the future and that advice gave at the really helps me get my head looking forward at the future without fear but with excitement for the possibility. Just speech from the teacher was soooo reassuring and I could just understand on that feeling so hard then that yokai hunter episode was just hilarious and cute having mob solves his own problems in such a way that incorporates his passion and reliability was just a real fun time to watch. Having that yokai king( the one that mob made) was cute to seee all of that effort that been put together. And now what I I would say the last place episode and by no means I think it was bad I just felt incomplete but with that next arc it has been a amazing to hint at and show what to come .
The divine tree arc (4-6)
This arc was just sooo good and for it was too reason the eeriness of the first part like how everyone started to ignore mob and starts to be more of a out cast while the religion starts to slowly take over. Like this what was One of favorite YouTuber videos Supereyepatch wolf video about social anxiety horror was about ( and yall should watch that video if you want to explore that same feeling with mob) but yea having that feeling of slowly becoming a outcast is just a fear that now looms over me. And then having those little scary moments of just the spread will linger in my mind for a while. The other part of why I love this arc is dimple from how he was in the beginning and end. I don’t know what the opinion on the beginning of the arc about dimple but I loved how unnerving it was about. The concept of someone takes your place is equally as scary as the becoming a outcast to your friends and I think it went hand by hand perfectly but the ending with dimple was sooooooooooo good like I thought oh easy back stab here but the genuine kindness that mob showed actually made him change and I love that soo much and how he made mob go home made me cry actually tears with that wave because aaaaahhhh I can’t really explain it in words but if anyone can explain please do but it was so gooood.
Space arc( 7-8)
This was just a cute nice simple arc. I just love how it expanded so much with occult club members and it just so cute and wholesome having them together, and the message of make memories is resonating to me sooo hard. Wanting to make a friend dream a reality is real heartwarming and how it explored more on a different psychic is really interesting and love that new character so much with his excitement for the adventure. And the aliens was just a treat to because having them there made sense in that strange world of mob psycho and having them either real or not really didn’t matter but just making them real felt so complete.
Final (9-12)
Okay ao I. I don’t want dismiss the other parts of this great season but wow this is the best way to end a series like this one from the amazing action to the most heart felt speeches and the overall tone of this felt soo right. Having experienced this was great bringing back last season big bad was a treat and the fights were great but that running scene from Reigan was just immaculate just him running towards Mob as the world turns to ruins it just amazing. And I love how each character ending was felt so complete like with Teruki Hanazawa him with that scene calling himself mobs rival was soo good he save everyone because he knew that fighting mob wasn’t the main thing but protecting mob from killing people was. And there were so many more great moments like this to round out most characters in this great story. But we have to talk about tumblr sexy man Reigan and his speech and I don’t know how many people are said this but I just love how he was honest to mob and helped him accept himself to become more of a complete person and it just makes me have goosebumps from just listening to him admitting to his faults it just soooo god damn good.
I don’t have any good ending statements but I am just glad to experience this amazing show and I hope yall have similar experiences with this great series
#excess thoughts#mob psycho 100#txt post#i ramble#this show is so good#I am glad to experience this great show#btw#reigan arataka#is such a banger#character#and dimple tooo

hi remember the mob psycho magical girl au that i made a comic about? i made refs for them and making a full fledged au for them!
basic lore is here!
Shigeo "Mob" Kageyama
W: Scythe
A: Energy transfer- Mob can transfer energy from living thing to living thing. Usually uses his own energy to enhance the attacks of his teammates, or he can even use it to heal his teammates. He can't use his own energy on himself, and he can't use a person's energy on that person specifically, it has to come from elsewhere. Mob can also "solidify" this energy to create a barrier.
P: Percentage meter: Basically how it works in the show. Mob probably has to be extra careful as to how much energy he stores because that also can go out of control once he hits 100%.
Arataka Reigen
W: Card deck, but he also brings his own brass knuckles just in case.
A: Move prediction- Using his card deck, Reigen can predict an opponent's next move. He can also see glimpses into their past, and can see into whether or not a person is trustworthy. If he focuses hard enough, he may be able to see a faint trace of a person's future...
P: Ability-reading: Reigen can get a good idea of a magical girl's/enemy's moveset at a glance with admittedly varying results. He can't see right through them, but can get the basic idea. The longer he focuses on them, the more information he can garner.
Ritsu Kageyama
W: Blades, throwing knives for long-range combat
A: Short-distance warp- Ritsu can teleport over short distances, and this will also affect anything or anyone he touches while doing so. He can't teleport longer distances, only about a quarter mile max.
P: Increased agility- Paired on top of the default agility increase, Ritsu is very speedy and dexterous.
Teruki "Teru" Hanazawa
W: Bow (default)
A: Weapon transformation: Teru can transform everyday items into useable weapons. He can turn his tie into a sword, a stick into a staff, or a garbage can lid into a shield.
P: Luminescence: His hair will glow in darker places to help with visibility.

Gates to Heck Chapter 7
Shigeo teleported them back to Seasoning City and promptly threw up in a flower bed.
Ritsu used his powers to levitate Teru's prone form, while Reigen did his best to block them from view. People had been a lot more accepting of psychic powers in Seasoning since Claw attacked, but most of them had accepted that it was a problem.
Shigeo was probably also grateful for the privacy.
He had wanted to carry Teru himself, but Ritsu said that "Hanazawa has been through enough for one night without someone throwing up in his hoodie." Shigeo opened his mouth to argue, maybe that it was technically his hoodie.
Then he sighed instead, barely more than an exhale.
"Please be careful," he said. "I think his chest got hurt when he was struggling."
"I could carry him," said Shou. "I'm very gentle. I have hamsters."
"What does that even-" Ritsu started to ask, but Shou interrupted him.
"And I've never dunked my Shishou in a rice paddy."
"He isn't my Shishou!"
Teru had passed out while they were still arguing over who got to carry him. Reigen woke him right back up and made him name the Prime Minister and at least two Vocaloids. Teru rolled his eyes during the concussion check, but he definitely did it on purpose, which alleviated about five percent of Reigen's immediate concerns.
Anyway, the kid looked like he needed some sleep.
Teru's hair was plastered to his head with dirty water, which had also washed off the makeup he'd apparently been wearing. The skin around his nose was tight and technicolor. At least it didn't look broken, but he seemed to be having trouble breathing normally, whether from the swelling or his recent not-technically-waterboarding, which Reigen was trying not to think about while he was in a Family Mart because the cigarettes were right there.
They stopped at the convenience store on their way to Seasoning General to pick up a sports drink for Shigeo. He wanted milk, but Reigen insisted he needed to replenish his electrolytes.
Reigen bought him a carton of milk to drink later.
He also bought himself a pack of cigarettes to have much later, when there were no children around to see him freak the fuck out.
Teru regained consciousness in the waiting room. Reigen had been hoping to get him admitted first, but he had never encountered an emergency room that took its name seriously. They had been waiting for almost an hour when Teru stirred awake.
Reigen was worried about another teleportation incident, but apparently Teru didn't have the energy, because he started arguing instead.
"I don't need to be here," he said, and his voice sounded like he was the one with the smoking problem. "I'm fine."
Shigeo shook his head. "You don't have to lie, Hanazawa-kun."
"I'm not!"
"I think he's fine by his standards, Mob," said Reigen. "Drink your electrolytes."
Shigeo obediently sipped his sports drink.
"Reigen-san," Teru started, but Reigen cut him off.
"If you're worried about the hospital siccing Social Services on you, then you can unclench. I managed to convince them you're my nephew."
"You… what?"
"It was so cool," said Shou. "He didn't even give them a chance to ask any questions. He was just all, 'My sister is so irresponsible!'"
"Which is true," said Reigen.
"And, 'I only recently found out that Teruki has been living alone for years!'"
"Which is true."
"And, 'I'm going to make sure he gets the care he deserves from now on!'"
Reigen didn't say it this time, but the implication alone left Teru looking like he was going to bolt whether he had the juice for it or not.
"They do have some concerns about your medical history," said Reigen, casting about for a distraction.
"Huh? But I haven't been to the doctor in years."
"That's the main concern," said Reigen. "We might have to get you vaccinated at some point if I don't want the hospital siccing Social Services on me, but don't worry. We'll smooth it over."
Reigen shifted in the easily-sterilized plastic chair. If he was uncomfortable, he couldn't imagine how Teru felt.
"That's not it," said Teru. "It's not safe for other patients."
"Huh?"
"Why wouldn't it be safe?" asked Shigeo.
"I ended up in the hospital once, a few years ago," said Teru. He was talking fast, like he was afraid the waiting room nurse would actually finish processing their paperwork sometime that century. "Some do-gooder called an ambulance after a Claw attack. I was fine, but they wouldn't let me go."
"I still don't understand-"
"Claw attacked the hospital. No one died, but it… wasn't good. They threw an MRI machine. I had to tell every lie I could think of just to keep them from calling my parents or the Child Guidance Center. There wouldn't be anything to stop Claw from attacking me there either."
"They never attacked you at school, right?" asked Ritsu. "Why would they attack you at a hospital? Aren't there too many people?"
"People, but not psychics," said Teru. "Claw thought I knew other espers. Other kids. Maybe they even thought the Black Vinegar gang was some sort of Psychic Squad. We did get a bit of a reputation for levitating people."
"Oh," said Shigeo, "Your introduction."
It was hard to tell with the fever, but Teru might have blushed. "It's a good way to intimidate and immobilize at the same time, okay?"
Reigen was having a hard time following their conversation, but that had never stopped him before. "Claw's gone now, right? The names on your conspiracy-board were all crossed off. Ochinko-san was the last one, and he's in custody. You're not getting out of a checkup that easily."
"They can't even do anything," Teru wasn't giving up that easily either. "They can't do anything for a concussion or cracked ribs, and my shoulder's already back in its socket."
"They can give you painkillers," said Reigen, trying not to let his wince show. He hadn't even known about the dislocated shoulder.
"I don't want painkillers," said Teru. "They make it hard to think."
"You shouldn't be thinking if you have a concussion."
"I'm sorry, Hanazawa-kun," said Shigeo, which surprised them both enough that they stopped arguing.
"What?" Teru rasped. "What do you have to be sorry for?"
"I know you told me about how you can set broken bones with your powers, but I've never done it before, and I was afraid of messing up, so I thought it would be better to let the doctors set your ribs. I'm protecting and supporting them though. I hope that's okay."
That was probably a good thing, since Reigen was reasonably sure that you couldn't actually set broken ribs.
There weren't a lot of treatment options. Teru had been right about that. They could treat the pain, but the primary course of treatment for broken ribs was just holding real still and not breathing too hard.
Reigen's irresponsible sister had broken a rib in a moped accident sophomore year. She'd been laid up for a couple of weeks, and she'd recruited Reigen to help convince their parents it was just period cramps.
Their dad had bought it, but their mom had gotten suspicious around the second week.
Teru looked pathetic, still dripping slightly onto the laminate flooring. He still managed a smile for Shigeo. "You're amazing Kageyama-kun. I can't feel a thing."
"That might be the shock." Shigeo frowned infinitesimally. "We should get you a blanket."
Before they could get Teru a blanket, he was actually admitted. The kids insisted on coming too, so the nurse led them all to a small room that definitely wasn't intended to contain multiple teenagers. Another nurse took Teru's temperature and blood pressure while they all pretended not to notice his hands shake.
Eventually the doctor joined them.
"I understand you're having a rough day, young man," he said in what was probably not intended to be a patronizing tone.
Teru shrugged his good shoulder. He seemed to be in a fugue state. He managed a polite smile for the medical staff, but it was like he'd used up all his words trying to convince them he didn't need help, which had only convinced them he needed a lot of help. Preferably professional. Reigen wondered if he still had the number of that therapist whose patient was literally haunted.
"Can you tell me how these injuries occurred?" asked the doctor.
Reigen opened his mouth to answer, but his mind went blank as a fresh word document. He didn't have a single lie lined up. Some conman he was. They were going to get in so much trouble.
"Basketball is a dangerous sport," said Shigeo.
"I see," said the doctor, and that was that. Apparently he was used to teenagers. Although probably not teenagers like these.
Teru's polite smile slipped when the doctor threatened to X-ray his ribs, and Reigen wondered how many untreated injuries they would find.
Not untreated. He'd heard Shigeo earlier, no matter how much he wished he hadn't. Teru had been treating his own injuries. Setting his own bones.
Reigen reminded himself that he definitely wasn't allowed to smoke in a hospital.
Teru was released less than an hour later with a shoulder brace and a prescription for a mild painkiller. Reigen filled it in the hospital pharmacy while the kids tried not to fall asleep on each other in the waiting room.
It was past their bedtimes. Ritsu had called the Kageyamas to explain that they were with an adult, even if it wasn't a very responsible one. Then Shigeo took the phone and exchanged some quiet words with his mother that Reigen hadn't been able to overhear no matter how hard he tried.
Even Shou had called his mother, but that had been less about explaining why he was out late, and more about describing their adventure, with unnecessary emphasis on the part where Ritsu dunked Reigen in a rice paddy.
"Okay, kids. Let's go home. Hanazawa, you're with me."
"Can't he come home with us?" asked Shigeo. "We have real food at our house."
Sometimes Reigen couldn't tell if his student was giving him sass or just being blunt.
He cleared his throat. "That's why God invented takeout."
"I don't need to go home with anyone," said Teru, but he was universally ignored.
"Besides, do you want to explain this to your mother?" Reigen asked Shigeo, gesturing vaguely at Teru's everything. "Because I sure don't."
"Why not?" asked Teru. "It wasn't your fault."
"Maybe not," said Reigen, "but you would have been safe at home with only about half of your current injuries if I hadn't barged in and acted like I knew what was best for you."
"Probably not for long. He knows where I live."
"Okay!" Reigen clapped his hands together. "At the risk of sounding like a child abductor, you're definitely coming home with me. I'd invite the rest of you, but I don't think there's enough room."
"I'm coming too," said Shigeo. "I don't take up much room."
Reigen sighed. He only had one spare futon, which Shigeo should know, since he was the only one who had ever used it.
"Mob-"
"I already told Kaa-san."
"...What exactly did you tell her?"
Reigen was not intimidated by Shigeo's mother or her ability to narrow her eyes and see through every single lie he told, because that would be silly.
"That Hanazawa-kun is sick, and you're taking care of him."
Reigen sighed again. "Sorry, sick kid." That was what he had told the cab driver who took him to Teru's apartment that afternoon. Reigen could barely believe it was still the same day. The hospital clocks were just ticking over to midnight.
"Can we have a sleepover too?" Shou asked Ritsu.
"No."
"Come on! I can borrow Ritsu's Nii-san's futon. He won't mind. Right, Ritsu's Nii-san?"
"I don't mind," said Shigeo.
They argued about it all the way out to the hospital entrance, where Reigen called a cab to take them home. He slid into the front passenger seat while the kids crowded together in the back.
"Long time no see," said the cab driver. It was the one from that afternoon. The one who hadn't minded all the swearing. She glanced at Teru in the rearview mirror.
"Damn," she said. "You weren't kidding."

now I need to know:
who all has trans swag in mp100 (in your opinion/headcanons)
If I go based off of just how many identities could be applied to them? That would be Teru. Teruki Hanazawa is like, they're the guy who could be the entire LGBTQ spectrum and it makes sense. He is the trans swaggiest of all time.
I've seen transfem Mob around, and I'm honestly really happy it seems to be a prevalent hc in the Fandom. It's really nice just seeing Mob explore that in fanworks.
Ritsu and Reigen are like. The Transmasc dudes. Like you see it more with Reigen but Ritsu also just feels right for Transmasc hc.
I enjoy and love transmasc hcs for Serizawa, but I also have a personal interpretation of him as a amab nonbinary man.
Sho is cis, but also he's defying gender norms and making his gender his.
I've also liked the idea of transfem Tome based on that one line by Takenaka about her not getting girl things.
I think Dimple just goes by he/him for convenience and has no opinion on gender other that what may be convenient for him. I do think he prefers to present as masc though.
I think that covers the main cast that I can think of at the top of my head. Ty for askin <3

FAQ
~"How is [x] character a fashion disaster? I like their look/ they're iconic/ they look alright/ etc. etc." First of all, this is a very lighthearted competition that doesn't mean to be negative or judgmental! A Fashion Disaster can sometimes be (affectionate): in some cases there's nothing more iconic than a bit of this pizazz. I like quite a few of the looks on this list (and sometimes dress much worse) but if they have been included, this means that either: 1) they have been nominated multiple times 2) they have been nominated at least once and whoever nominated them provided a very convincing or funny explanation of why they were a Fashion Disaster (for example by pointing out one particularly bad outfit - not necessarily their main outfit!) 3) they have been nominated at least once and upon looking them up, I noticed that they tick many of the boxes that were described repeatedly in other people's explanations of what they consider disastrous: e.g. clashing patterns, excessive accessories, crocs, bad haircuts, etc. etc. In any case, every poll comes with a brief explanation of why people have been nominating a certain character! To make sure that people vote informed ❤️ ~"Why are you randomizing matchups instead of seeding?" I totally see the value of seeding for most competitions, but this one here is largely unpredictable - a lot of characters got the same amount of nominations, and how Disastrous they are is entirely subjective. The competition is also quite visual-based - it's about looks rather than knowing a character, so it's more likely that people will vote for an unknown character than in other competitions, which risk becoming popularity polls quite quickly. Basically: I'd simply have no idea how to determine the ranking of most contestants here for proper seeding! That's why I opt for randomized matches - but I did make sure to put the two most nominated characters on the opposing sides of the bracket. ~"Why is [x] character not included?" There was a total of 174 unique characters nominated to this tournament! If the one you were rooting for did not make it, I'm sorry! One or more of the following was likely the cause: 1) they have not been nominated more than once 2) they have not ticked as many boxes for what other people considered disastrous as some other characters with a single nomination did 3) a lot of characters have been submitted from the same source. After choosing 3 most nominated ones, I couldn't include more! The rule is max. 3 characters per source. ~"Is propaganda encouraged?" More than encouraged! Please tag me if you make any posters/posts/try to support your faves in another way throughout the tournament, I'd love to see and reblog it! ❤️

Sorry, I keep adding onto this, but I agree completely.
Bakugou didn't experience any actual development. Maybe if Horikoshi acknowledged the emotional abuse, there could have been something, but as it stands, I wouldn't like that as it would enable the Bakugou stans. It would make them go, "See! See! I told you so!", while completely ignoring that he inflicted abuse onto Izuku.
I'm not going to sit here and compare people's trauma. That's wrong.
What I will say is that, again, you're completely right. Mitsuki doesn't seem to gain any pleasure from hurting Bakugou, emotionally-wise, whereas Bakugou did. He grins and laughs and feels powerful, and it's awful.
He likes beating down people who are already weaker than him, just to feel stronger. And there is nothing to convince me that he's changed from this. He still fights with a grin, not because he wants people to feel safe like All Might or Izuku do, but because he enjoys beating people up.
Like I said, the issue is the fact that people use 'he was abused' as an excuse, rather than a reason. I could accept it as a reason, something that influenced him to take such actions, but it's not. Every time this is seen in fanfiction, it's only there to make his abuse towards Izuku feel less, as though it suddenly doesn't matter just because he was abused.
What I'm fine with is: he was abused, but that is not an excuse. It's only a reason. He still should not be forgiven immediately, because that's not a reason to do so. We see this in canon with the League of Villains, like Toga who was psychologically abused by everyone around her. There is a reason as to why she turned to a dark area, but she is not forgiven. Her actions are not pardoned.
This is why I don't like Bakugou stans, and why I don't like people saying he was abused. If written well, I can stand it. But it's never written well.
There was a fanfiction where 1-A is hit with a truth quirk, and it looked really good. Bakugou was revealed to have bullied Izuku visciously for years, and the class reacted by isolating him, and Ochako is particularly upset.
It was going fine until Bakugou revealed that Mitsuki also visciously abused him, and suddenly everyone is okay with him. It's fine to be horrified by that, but then Ochako is painted in a bad light, and everyone forgets that he bullied Izuku.
(I ended up dropping it - I'm not going to say the name, because I'm not that mean or petty. I'm still petty, but not to that extent. If you know what I'm talking about, please don't reveal it. The writing was good, I just didn't like Bakugou enough to stay through that.)
A good example of the type of character Horikoshi wished Bakugou was, is Teruki Hanazawa from Mob Psycho 100. If you don't know, he's introduced a minor antagonist who used his psychic powers to bully people and keep himself on top. Because of his superior powers and strength, he held himself above people. He did this because he was bored. It's not shown as well in the anime, but you can tell in the manga how dull he percieved his life as.
It's not until he fights Mob, who doesn't fight back because he doesn't like using his psychic powers for such means. Hanazawa is confused and views this as Mob looking down on him. His ego can't handle this and he ends up going too far, choking Mob out to the point that he believes he killed him. His victory is hollow.
Then Mob reaches ???%. In his unconscious state, he gets up and his powers get out of control. Hanazawa is initially happy that he made Mob fight back, until he realises that he screwed up. Mob decimates him and he apologises for everything. Up in the air, he has this moment of clarity. The world is large and he is small. His power doesn't mean anything.
He apologises to Mob, and that's the end.
The next time we see him, he's admonishing someone for using their psychic powers willy-nilly. The best part of it: I can believe it. I can believe that, in the time we didn't see him, he internalised the message Mob sent to him. Being powerful does not mean you are strong. Protecting the weak, rather than holding yourself over them, is the mark of the strong.
It's a simpe yet powerful message that Bakugou could never portray, because his arc goes against this message.
'Save to win, and win to save,' is such a bad message. Because saving people should always come first. He'll prioritise beating the villian instead of the child three seconds away from dying because he has to win. His mindset hasn't changed. He started off only caring about winning, and he still only cares about winning.
He doesn't care about saving people, as is the message of heroism. He holds himself over the weak. He looks down on people and thinks 'I'm stronger than them.'
This kind of devolved into a seperate matter entirely, but I stand by it anyhow. Even if Bakugou's abuse was taken seriously, stans needs to realise that it's just a reason, not an excuse.
(Sorry for continuing this already long rant.)
I need Bakugou stans to realise that it's not that I hate him as a person. It's that I hate him as a character.
A lot of my favourite characters are unrepentant assholes, or assholes who are set to or have already been redeemed. Vegeta from DBZ, Ouma Kokichi from DGR: V3, Dio from JoJo, Laxus from Fairy Tail, Greed from FMA: B, Bill from Gravity Falls, and the list that goes on.
If a character is a terrible person, that's fine by me. But if the author tries and fails to redeem them, yet still acts as though they are suddenly this amazing person, that's when I have an issue with it.
Bakugou was originally written to be a minor antagonist, and that would have been fine, if Horikoshi didn't suddenly go "I drew him crying so imma fix him".
Redemption is such a complex yet simple thing to do. So when you try to do it and fail spectacularly, um, yeah, I do not enjoy that character or your writing.
That is my main issue with Bakugou. I do not think he deserved any redemption, not because he's a bad person, but because there is nothing to convince me that he could change.
He gets one scene where he goes, "boohoo I lost and everyone is stronger than me" then cries, and that's supposed to be enough for him to become a better person? That is nowhere near enough.
There was no moment that made me believe he genuinely regretted and took accountability for the abuse he put Izuku through in middle school.
"He changed!" That's not my issue. I don't care that he's changed. I care that I don't believe in it. If there was a plausible reason as to why he changed, then I would be fine with it. Maybe I'd even enjoy him!
The fact that he's changed doesn't mean shit if it's not believable.
"That was in middle school!" Okay. This one pisses me off the most. That was a year pre-canon? Oh, wow, I guess that's completely fine! It's not as if characters are the way they are based on their past. Oh, Itachi killed the Uchiha clan before canon! Okay, maybe comparing a massacre to bullying is a bit unfair. Still, just because it happened a year ago, it doesn't mean it never happened. It doesn't mean that he's changed considerably.
"Izuku doesn't have any lasting damage and forgave him!" And? Just because your friend forgives their bully, it doesn't mean you have to forgive them. And, again, I do not believe Bakugou's apology was good in anyway. He was trash-talking Izuku, blaming All Might for Izuku's behaviour, and didn't accept any culpability for what he did to him. He didn't tell anyone else what he did to Izuku. Also, if Izuku really didn't have any lasting damage from the bullying, then why did Bakugou's apology make him calm down? If he didn't care about the bullying, then why is he so relieved by the apology? BECAUSE HE WAS AFFECTED.
"Bakugou was being abused!" ... NO HE WASN'T!! Mitsuki is not abusive. Yes, she hit him round the back of his head. After he threatened her. Anyone with Asian parents can tell you that her hit does not hurt. Not only is it somewhat normal in Asian families, but it also doesn't hurt. We have no evidence that she is abusive. Horikoshi knows how to set up abusive families, as seen with the Todorokis. This not that. Either way, even if she was, being abused doesn't mean it's okay to abuse others. You can hurt without hurting others.
"It's the school and teacher's fault!" No, it's not. Part of the fault lies with them enabling him, but Bakugou is already fifteen when the series starts. His mother clearly doesn't agree with his attitude. The school is only partially to blame. Bakugou should have learned by himself what is right and what is not. In fact, he clearly does know considering he doesn't want any of that stuff on his records in case U.A. rejects him.
Again. I don't care if he's a terrible person. I care that he's a terrible character.
So the next time someone says that I'm stuck in Season One, take a moment and think about what you're saying. Bad people in fiction are entertaining. Bad characters are not.

Some highlights from the MP100 Brazilian dub (because I adore it) pt.1
Earlier in this year, I commented on the voice actor choices for some characters, and someone suggested me to talk more about this dub. Of course, I'm very glad to elaborate on my love for my country's dubbing, specially for one of the most enjoyable examples I've seen.
My congratulations for the director Úrsula Bezerra and the Unidub studio for their efforts here!! I could not expect less from such experient professionals! I also want to give my appreciation to the translation team for their lovely spin on the dialogue that made the anime even funnier.
And about the voice actor choices...
Main Characters
Ítalo Luiz as Shigeo "Mob" Kageyama - This man has an impressive voice range and made a spetacular job with Mob. I love how he captured his young, timid essence but also expressed Mob's stronger emotions in a fantastic way. It made him endearing from the start.
Vágner Fagundes as Arataka Reigen - VÁGNER FAGUNDES. I didn't know much about him before, but his interpretation of Reigen sold him as a excellent voice actor to me. There is something different about his work. No other Reigen voice has that much charisma or impact to me. I can watch the same heartwrenching scenes in the original audio or any of the English dubs without an issue, but listening to Vágner Fagundes's version will make me break in tears instantly. 11/10.
César Marchetti as Dimple + the narrator - I've always enjoyed his voices in older, charismatic character of dubious morality, so he fit like a glove with Dimple's evil spirit ways. César made Dimple's personality SHINE through his hilarious entonations and word choices, and all this served to emphasize the comic effect the green fart had in his best scenes. I also liked César more serious voice when speaking as the narrator, which further proves his range.
Robson Kumode as Ritsu Kageyama - Famous for dubbing Sasuke Uchiha during the 2000s, Robson Kumode has a way for voicing emotionally complex teenagers and so created an amazing portrayal of Ritsu. He managed to transmit both Ritsu's harsher and darker feelings and the fact that in the end, he was still a child. By character design alone, this voice actor would be an obvious choice.
Felipe Zilse as Teruki Hanazawa - In contrast to Ritsu's case, Felipe Zilse was not a clear voice choice for Teruki, considering how deep it can sound at times. I have to admit I found it a bit difficult to get used to at the start (why does this 14 year old sound so adult!). However, Felipe managed to be a great Teruki through the prideful calmness on his voice and his effort on making the character's emotional scenes filled to the brim with a unique quality.
Armando Tiraboschi as Katsuya Serizawa - Oh, how do I even start? I like Armando Tiraboschi's voice very much, even more his talent for dubbing rugged gentlemen in action-ridden contexts. His version of Serizawa may sound older and a little less awkward than the original, but his spin on the character is wonderful with its focus on Serizawa's gentle giant traits. I guess it contributed to my tiny crush on the 30yo ex-terrorist.
Fernanda Bullara as Tome Kurata - EXCELLENT. IMPECCABLE. Fernanda Bullara was the best possible choice for Tome, as she has lots of experience with energetic and exccentric characters such as her. Her voice was outstanding for Tome's outbursts and more exaggerated scenes, while maintaining some vulnerability when necessary. Not too girly, not stereotipical teen-like. She is just a young lady who is passionate about her interests.

my next upcoming fic project is very self indulgent reigen and teru found family that i’ve been writing notes for since november. i can’t guarantee when it’ll be finished or if it’ll even be finished at all (i have to work on kel became after all) but i just want to share some of my favorite notes from that i’ve written so far… mostly the ones i think are funny.
notes for Sometimes What’s Best is an Added Expense (a Child) to Your Bank Account:
- serirei wedding probably,, teru wants them to get married anyways
- serirei would get together before terumob cause they silly like that
- serirei fake wedding cause of an exorcism job and teru is super excited (plot twist the clients were lying and just wanted proof that they were going to a wedding as an excuse not to go to another event plot twist 2 the ghost shows up after the clients admit it cause they hate when people go through loveless fake weddings for monetary gain) serirei confesses to make it go away
- reigen paints his nails with teru once cause son insists,, mob notices and reigen suggests that he should ask teru to do his. reigen high fives wawa after. he really thinks he’s the best wingman
- dad moment
- teru is a bit wary of wawa at first but they warm up to each other
- mob thinks they’re dating for a bit and teru is completely oblivious miscommunication hahahahahahahaha
- the miscommunication stems from a time shige and teru are having a sleepover and teru admits that he loves him when he thinks mob is asleep. he wasn’t. mob thinks for that as a queue that they’re dating now.
- shou shows up through ritzus window
- shou also crashes at serizawas when bored (which eventually becomes crashing at the reigen household and hanging out with teru)
- terizzki hanazawa reigen <<<<— arataka calls his son this when he tried to flirt with mob teru nearly explodes
- Reigen’s parents would go to a pride parade for their grandson (they still suck tho)
- sickfic serirei chapter except serizawa burns the soup cause he can’t cook and teruki has to come help him. teru and wawa bonding time while they cook together
- serizawa gets a part time job and teru finds him there,, he gets annoyed when he finds out seri doesn’t get paid minimum wage by rei
- teru takes mob to marshals (cause he shops there)
- teru “head over heels for mob” hanazawa
- terus new haircut‼️‼️ i lob his haircut and reigen makes fun of it all the time.
- reigen likes to cook but is too lazy (canon) he starts cooking for teru
- Teruki Hanazawa Serizawa Reigen (he has quite the collection of last names)
- SERIREI PROPASES AT THE SAME TIME
- tenga and teru talk sometimes
- WINGMAN TSUBOMI
- “SO WHAT IF MY DAD HAS BOOBS!?” (referring to katsuya serizawa) “hanazawa…”
- REIGEN NEEDS TO BE HONEST WITH HIM‼️(seriwawa)
- shou and ritsu spying on terumobs not date
- That’s so balls -ritsu
- i’ll just pretend to be your parent! i’ve got the hair, see! -reigen
- reigen having anxiety about seri leaving him after graduation and starting somewhere new. seri is working like 10 jobs just to stay at spirits and such as long as he can. (you’ll have to carry me out in a body bag to leave this job) teru finds it funny that they’re both idiots (he’s also idiot)
- “<3” “how can you even say that out loud!?”
- tome teru shou reigen serizawa family fr fr
there’s so much more but i’m just gonna leave it like this for now
#mobpsycho100#hanazawa teruki#reigen arataka#mp100#mp100 fanfic#i’m stupid at writing#literally half of this is super disorganized#i think dad reigen is silly#most these are about the ships but like that’s where most of the silly comes from#the notes with reigen teru family are actually serious#they are so family pls believe me#they are so gay#i call serizawa wawa a lot and it’s funny#WHAT WE GOING ON IN MY BRAIN WHEN I WROTE SOME OF THESE#my grammar is atrocious#malquease

i love hearing about people seeing teru’s 3 foot tall wig without watching mob psycho 100. i love seeing how some people assume that teru’s wig is plot significant, like thinking that maybe its a disguise, or hes hiding something in it or something relevant to the actual plot of the story
i love the idea of someone seeing terus wig before watching mp100, and then watching mp100 expecting to find out the context behind terus wig, only to find out that there is no context and this weird fruity little blonde kid really did just show up randomly wearing a 3ft wig one day for no reason other than he felt like it
even other characters are just as confused as the audience. ritsu and tome even thought that his head Was Just That Big. teru himself doesnt even directly acknowledge his wig. he just acts like his hair has always been 7 feet tall and nothing is out of the ordinary
obviously we know why he is wearing a wig, and the mini pixel episodes give us more “context” about its hugeness by telling us that he had a normal wig that he didnt think was voluminous enough so he made it huge. but theres no plot significant reason as to why he is wearing a huge wig instead of a normal one
hes just like that. hes a freak. hes a weirdo. hes ridiculous. this is such a 14 year old thing to do. i hate him. i love him. hes my best friend and my worst enemy. i cant stand him. while you were busy making posts about how funny reigen arataka is i was over here studying teruki hanazawa so i can put into words how tragically hilarious his character is
