Favourite colour: A nice dark green. Or black as my cat :-)
Last song: "Roll to me" by Del Amitri. Which I am absolutely certain there was a fanvid of, but I can't remember the fandom and the Leverage one I can find does not feel right. *grumbles*
Last movie: I watched "The Blob" last weekend. Genuine 50s sci-fi horror. The effects were surprisingly decent, considering (fake, absolutely, but not breaking the suspension of disbelief), but the acting - honestly? I now want teenage Lille Per vs cosmic horrors, because that's the vibe I got. So 50s.
Currently watching: "The Legend of Vox Machina". It's okay. I'm never going to be in that fandom, but watching an episode every 2-3 days have been entertaining - once I got past the first two. If I hadn't been spoiled/osmosis'ed ahead of time, I would have gone no further, but once the plot starts happening it balances the alleged humour better - but honestly, as awful openings goes, it's right up there with "De udvalgte".
Other stuff I watched this year: Bit of this, bit of that. Good Omens, of course. A Korean Odyssey, where I enjoyed the side characters far more than the main couple. The Woman King, which felt incredibly US military movie, which I suppose is faif, as that's what it is. Wakanda Forever because Namor. Other things.
Shows I dropped this year: Not a show as such, but - I've finally dropped the MCU. As in I've stopped watching every movie in cinemas (honestly, I've mostly quit cinemas these days). I'll watch an individual movie if it interests me (*points to favourite angry merman*), but I doubt very many of them will.
Last book: "City of Bones" by Martha Wells. Which has a lot of the stuff you also see in her newest work - especially the non-human protagonist that does not fit in among his own kind. The novel itself is okay - post-apocalyptic high fantasy.
Currently reading: Since the publication of the last volume is finally within sight, I've started reading "Heaven Official's Blessing". So far so good, though the main character feels a bit bland. Also reading R.F. Kuang's "The Poppy War" and finding the parallels to Chinese history at once extremely heavy-handed and at the same time curiously - revisionist? Oh, it totally wasn't the fantasy!English they fought Opium Wars with, it was the fantasy!Japanese. But I'm only about 100 pages in. We'll see.

Tagged by @st-just (thanks!) to just press shuffle on my general listening playlist 10 times and relate the results.
Thing is, I don't have a general playlist, only current ones, and I'm currently making a mixtape of execution ballads. So sadly, you're not getting any variety. You're either getting a preview of the project (I wanna make a booklet for this, I'm aiming for the moon, baby!), OR, since the grander the project the higher the chances of me never finishing it, a taste of what could have been.
The Dubliners - Sam Hall (a classic execution ballad with many versions, some of which brim with rage, while this one is rather stoic and dignified)
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - Up jumped the devil (a song about a man doomed from the start to play the villain's part, and the origin of this blog's #swinging from the gallows tree tag)
Johnny Cash - 25 minutes to go (peak gallows humour at Folsom Prison, uproariously funny and defiant, and somehow still conveying the terror of a man who doesn't want to die)
Let's Play Dead - Heaven and Hell (an execution ballad recently written for the series Harlots)
Brown Bird - Gallows (an alt-folk song not strictly about gallows, but adjacent)
Joan Baez - Long black veil (a country ballad about a man falsely accused of murder, who lets himself get dragged to gallows because he won't reveal his alibi: an affair with his best friend's wife)
Ewan MacColl - Go down ye murderers (a folk song about Tim Evans, who hanged for the murder of his wife and child in 1950; the real murderer confessed 3 years later, and the case played a major role in abolishing capital punishment in the UK)
The Tiger Lillies - Hang tomorrow (the pioneers of dark cabaret reimagine Brecht's Threepenny Opera, and here, disturbingly, take all the suaveness out of Macheath)
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - The Mercy Seat (the Mercy Seat is the electric chair, and this is a torrent of a song, a whirlwind, a masterpiece, a 7-minute cynic snarl)
Saga de Ragnar Lodbrock - Ballade des pendus - The OG Ballad of the Hanged, written in the 15th century by the OG poète maudit, François Villon. It paints an indelible picture:

This...this changes everything! My mind is blown!
"Roads go ever ever on, Over rock and under tree, By caves where never sun has shone, By streams that never find the sea; Over snow by winter sown, And through the merry flowers of June, Over grass and over stone, And under mountains in the moon."
One thing I’ve never understood about D&D druids is how they’re so often imagined as stationary. They’re found ‘guarding sacred sites or watching over regions of unspoiled nature’. And, I know. This is mainly because of the imagery and popular imagination around sites like Stonehenge. But.
If I had the druid spell list? I would take Create Bonfire, and I would take Goodberry, and I would take Create or Destroy Water, and I would pack up a sleeping bag, and I would just start walking. Where? Everywhere! What’s down that road? What’s over that hill? What’s up this river? What’s past this forest? What’s over those dunes? Let’s go see! I can’t starve. I can’t parch. I can’t freeze. I can go forever. So I’m gonna.
Honestly, the druid should be the picture of the wandering vagabond. They have everything they need. You can just walk and keep walking, wherever the wanderlust takes you. You wanna go across an ocean? You can make drinking water. Ships should pay to carry you. You wanna go across a desert? A baby druid with one level and 2 measly spell slots under their belt can still make food and a gallon of water a day for 10 people. Druids should be the explorers, the navigators, the pathfinders. They can travel endlessly, without hurting that which they pass through, the very picture of ‘leave nothing but your footprints’. They can walk the earth, stopping here or there along the way to help where they need to help, and fight what they need to fight, and then they can move on again.
Yes, some druids get tired and settle down. Circles are formed, and that’s how baby druids get their starts, finding a circle. And some areas do need a permanent circle to defend or watch over them. But I do think there should be more of a picture, more of an image, more of an option, for the druid as the wanderer, the rover, the vagabond. A pocket full of berries and a wave of a hand for some rain. Just head out and follow your feet. What could stop you?
(Particularly the Stars druid, my beloved. Could there be a better picture of a navigator? That’s where a Stars druid belongs, at the prow of a ship, or guiding their people across trackless dunes, or carrying news across vast ice fields under an endless polar night to keep tiny isolated hamlets connected. Follow the stars, follow your feet. Yes, accomplish things in the process, but the journey itself is also enough. Just walk. Go. The stars will guide you).
Sorry. In real life, so often, I just really want to see what’s down that road, or over that hill. And, like. As a druid you could just go. You have all you need from a standing start. Well. You’ll have to get clothes and good boots and shit, but you can totally feed and water yourself for completely free and regardless of natural resources out there.
More druid wanderers, is my point here. Yes, still some druids guarding henges and forests, but more druids just walking about, poking their noses into things. There is no better spell list to indulge your wanderlust and curiosity. And that’s without getting into wildshape and the eventual ability to explore under the oceans and into the air. There’s a whole world full of nature. You don’t have to tie yourself to one little bit, unless you want to.

REC: icarus_chained - Courage of the Fearful - Multifandom [Archive of Our Own]
URL: https://ift.tt/87vuhfJ by @honourablejester After an almost alien invasion in Gotham, and a goddess' response, there are a lot of things Clark Kent should be worried about right now. He probably hasn't chosen the right one. But all questions of morality and even theology aside, Gotham is afraid of him. And he's not sure he can bear that. So. He has a decision to make. death is patient
tw: death
Death is patient
It isn’t lurking around every corner like you might think, waiting for some horrible tragedy
Instead, it watches from afar, rooting for you
Death wants you to succeed, to grow and live life to the fullest, to help others do the same so they can one day contribute to the circle of life
Life, not death’s enemy, but rather his friend, his sister
Holding your hand as you go through her many stages, not an ounce of worry because she knows that once she is done and the time comes, you will be in her brother’s hands, good hands that wrap you in warm darkness and pat you on the back, congratulating you on a job well done
Because you made it, oh, look how far you’ve come
Death is proud of you.
Proud of every plant you watered, every animal you fed, every person you saved whether you knew it or not
By giving and living, by fighting death until the very end, you brought him more beings than he could ever ask for
Death wants you to know that you should keep going, keep trying, even when all you want is to fall into his home
One day you will meet him, one day it will be your time
But there’s no need to rush
He’s ready for you
And he will take good care of you
inspired by a quote from the secret fate of all life ("death created time to grow the things that it would kill") and a post I saw on here about a death god that wanted the kingdom to be prosperous because it meant more people would die in the long run. Tag someone you want to get to know better! Or just check in with.
Favorite color: black (I give a different answer every time they ask me)
Last song: Fantastic Negrito - In the pines. This whole album is shivers.
youtube
Black girl, black girl, your man is gone Now you travel the road alone And you raise that child all by yourself Then the policeman shot him down
Black girl, black girl, where will you go? To the place where the cold winds blow In the pines, in the pines where the sun don't shine I shivered the whole night through
Well I know that your heart is breaking Into one million pieces I know that your heart is breaking, I know Where did you sleep last night?
Last movie: Umberto D. (1952) Classic Italian neorealist specimen.
Currently watching: Star Trek: Lower Decks, Critical Role c3.
Other stuff I watched this year: Fucked up movie of the year was Inside (2023), with Willem Dafoe and…. no one else, basically. The premise is intriguing and a bit misleading: "The film follows an art thief who is trapped inside a luxury penthouse, slowly losing his grip on reality". But it's not a heist flick, and it's not a survival thriller about obscene wealth and/or weird technology oppressing simple thieves folks, it's a movie about Art, and it's fucked up (honorific), and holy shit Dafoe's performance.
Tumblr media
Also good movies: The Menu (2022), The Banshees of Inisherin (2022), Holy Spider (2022), Argentina, 1985 (2022), Mad God (2021), The Naked City (1948), Nimona (2023), Woodlands Dark and Days Bewitched: A History of Folk Horror (2021, thanks @tuulikki!). I kinda slept on new stuff, it's been a weird year.
Good shows: Babylon Berlin, The Last of Us, Succession, The Bear, and there's a bunch of good stuff coming out later (Yellowjackets, Severance, Chainsaw Man, The White Lotus, Interview with the Vampire, and SOME DAY Arcane and Russian Doll).
Shows I dropped this year: None (I chose wisely!)
Last book: Primo Levi, If this is a man (HOW had I not read this yet)
Currently reading: A book about the cuisines of yore of various greek minorities in Turkey. As a result, I am constantly hungry.

Favourite colour: Black and purple are kinda both it, depends on the day
Last song: as in last song i listened to? Or last song i actually chose to listen to? Because i have no idea what song was last on the radio this morning xD Last song I actually chose to listen to was Flickenpuppe by ASP
Last movie: made my parents watch M3GAN with me because i think that movie is hilarious xD
Currently watching: just finished watching A Discovery of Witches which was kinda meh imo.
Other stuff I watched this year: Um...a fuck ton of you tube stuff? XD s3 of Ragnarok which would have been great if the last episode wasn't so bad. Kohlrabenschwarz. Tried to catch up on Only Murders in the Building. And that's about all i can remember right now
Shows I dropped this year: don't think I've dropped any shows, just haven't quite finished one (Only Murders in the Building)
Last book: Dead Mountain by Preston and Child. Not a bad book but the lads are getting a tad predictable in how they structure their stories
Currently reading: fanfic, that's basically all I'm currently reading xD

Cops' prerogative, that's the whole point of bullshit offences like "loitering". If they don't like your face, they get to harass you. It's a kind of urban planning (see here, scroll down to the epilogue).
Note that in the '60s Washington Square attracted people that cops would very much like to harass, from youngsters hanging about (scary by itself, especially if it's the wrong kind of youngsters!), to activists protesting Robert Moses's urban planning, and his grand idea to build yet another expressway by demolishing whole neighbourhoods of Lower Manhattan and the Washington Square Park itself.
youtube
"Washington Square" is a 1963 dixie jazz instrumental by The Village Stompers. It became an instant hit, got covered by many artists, and still gets sampled every now and then. Some covers were vocal, like this one by The Ames Brothers, and a similar version by The Cherry Creek Singers. They both came out that same year, in 1963, during the battle for Greenwich Village.
From Cape Cod Light to the Mississip', to San Francisco Bay, They're talkin' 'bout this famous place, down Greenwich Village way. They hootenanny all the time with folks from everywhere, Come Sunday morning, rain or shine, right in Washington Square.
And so I got my banjo out, just sittin' catchin' dust, And painted right across the case "Greenwich Village or Bust". My folks were sad to see me go, but I got no meanin' there. So I said "Goodbye, Kansas, Mo, and hello, Washington Square!"
Near Tennessee, I met a guy who played 12-string guitar. He also had a mighty voice, not to mention a car. Each time he hit those bluegrass chords, you sure smelled mountain air. I said, "Don't waste it on the wind. Come on to Washington Square!"
In New Orleans, we saw a gal a-walkin' with no shoes, And from her throat there comes a growl, she sure was singin' the blues. She sang for all humanity, this gal with the raven hair. I said, "It's for the world to hear. Come on to Washington Square!"
We cannonballed into New York on good ol' US 1, Till up ahead we saw the arch, a-gleamin' bright in the sun. As far as all the eye could see, ten thousand folks were there, And singin' in sweet harmony right in Washington Square.
Say, how's about a freedom song, or the ol' Rock Island Line? How's about the dust-bowl crop, or men who work in a mine? The songs and legends of our land is gold we all can share, So come and join us folks who stand and sing in Washington Square.

For the Halloween asks: 1, 6, 22, 29, 32 :)
1. When you die, what do you want done with your remains?
Well, honestly, I’m not much bothered. Cremation is fine, burial is fine, whatever happens happens, I won’t be in there to know, I’d say. Will most likely be cremation because that’s what’s kind of getting more and more popular here in Germany. I’ve also got an organ donor card so maybe that might happen depending on circumstances.
6. Do you have a Deja Vu story?
Hm, not a story as such, I guess, just random deja vu moments. Like really random. Nothing really interesting though.
22. Do you go to haunted houses?
That depends, haunted houses as in the amusement park rides? Sure. Actual haunted houses, don’t think I’ve ever been to one but there aren’t really that many of those in Germany I think, at least not any popular ones. I’ve been to a theater in London that’s supposedly haunted by a dead usher or something but no ghosts turned up (most likely because they had watched that show so many times it got boring ;))
29. Do you believe in monsters?
That’s very much a question of definition, isn’t it? People do all kinds of horrible things to each other every day so there are definitely monsters in this world (of the human-shaped variety).
As for the supernatural kind well, who knows, they might well be out there. Or maybe they’re pretending to be neighbour Bob who goes for a pub crawl with a nice mauling later every full moon with his fellow werewolves. As long as he doesn’t leave the remains in the stair case I won’t judge ;)
32.Weirdest coincidence?
Hm...I’m not exactly sure. Weird in what way? Don’t think I’ve ever had coincidences in a spooky way. Mostly it’s just stuff like randomly meeting people from back home while on holiday or finding out someone you met online doesn’t live all that far away or something.
Thank you for the ask :)
