surprise! I made a cameo in this episode of Homestuck: Alternate Universe!

Hey, if anyone reading this is a big fan of Homestuck but would like to see a more sincere and genuine and concise version of the story I can't recommend Funk McLovin's Homestuck: Alternate Universe.

A short way to describe it is that if the original Homestuck is a first draft, this is meant to be a final draft. Focused on adding intentionality to the choices Hussie made without much thought and treating the characters with a bit more respect than the source material.

It's both available through Ao3, but it's also voiced on YouTube in a similar vein to an audio book.

This little project is created by a team of really talented queer people who have a strong distaste for post-canon and wanted a better story and ending for these characters.

what I love about HSAU's version is that EVERYONE except for Dave knows June is trans before she does, the trolls all know because of time travel (they message the beta session going backwards through time) so they've already seen hatched June and are all just awkwardly trying to handle talking to past egg June

Jade knows June's trans because they're both prospit dreamers so she can see her dreamself

Rose also knows but only because she's good at psychoanalysis (and can pick up on the obvious like when June impersonated her to talk to Kanaya who has a crush on her)

Dave's the only one who's genuinely clueless other than June herself

so vriskas a trans girl

and so is june

so i present to you (even though someone’s probably already thought of it)

con heir/vrisjune and vriska sees all the hints that june is trans before june does and like tries *everyhing* save for saying it outright to try and help her figure it out

and when she finally texts vriska like “vriska!!!!!! i think im a girl!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!” she’s super happy for her and helps her with her transition

and obviously teases her about the years and years of “im not a homosexual” only to realize that since shes a girl that makes her a lesbian

they're maybe around 30-40 yo? This was mostly just an exercise to give both of them adult designs. uh. i'm only calling it an au because I made bs some explanations behind their designs while i was drawing them. so uh, in this universe, sburb never happens + things that happened because of sburb don't happen either, but the alternian society is relatively unchanged. i dont actually know.. what.. karkat does.. like i cant figure out why he wouldnt be culled but it doesnt really matter i just wanted to draw him looking cool! (i am. open to hear about speculation if you have any). also i figured that Kanaya would go to the brooding caverns after her lusus dies, bc the wiki said her lusus would die regardless of the game taking place n whatever, and probaly do something with the matriorb there idk. thats all tho! ill prolly draw them more and maybe develop more lore as i do ^^;

The sash doubles as a sling for when he visits Kanaya in the brooding caverns. He’s also very tranquil around grubs because they don’t cause unmanageable problems. He’ll get mad if someone else bothers one

also! fun fact. i was having trouble designing kk's outfit so i looked in an old antiques catalog book from the internet archive to get inspiration from objects that had the same colors as those that i wanted to use in his design? not sure why i did that. just had a hunch that it would be fun. so this is the object i found that strangely enough inspired kk's fit

haha.. and i also found one for nepeta, though it was easier to design her fit and i didnt actually need a reference object

@skrunglebeasts and I made this a while ago! The short version is that this is an AU where Condy's stranded in space, Alternia's coming apart because of it and the Hiveswap trolls are still around to act as peers of the original 12. I might get into it later, but meanwhile have this! Pun's working with the text, I'm at the art. I drew this a while ago, too, just wanted to test screen tones and learn a few things.

I just wanted to have vriska and elwurd being sisters to each other. I'm a sucker for family stories.

Help me understand some AU tags.

I'm in the midst of looking at find fandoms on AO3 that have a lot of works tagged with "Alternate Universe" or a related tag. I'm trying to sort a bunch of the freeform/additional AO3 tags into cases that are simply canon divergent vs. cases that involve a larger transformation of the universe (e.g., a change to the time period or setting of the story, or a change to the powers that characters have, or a change to character gender or age). Please help me figure out which category the following tags fit into. (I'm writing this July 29, 2024; if you're reading this more than a week or so in the future, I probably don't still need help. :) )

Stupid au I made a long time ago where Karkat dies, no one remembers except Aradia and Gamzee, they all start killing and or helping each other (latter is mostly by force), and Vriska + (surprisingly) Kanaya are the main antags.

It’s a lot that I may or may not explain because I made this when I barely read Homestuck
