oh this is very fun! Misali Votgil was originally designed by Boogs for "a video about homestuck" so I can't take the full credit here but I agree their design is very nice : )

in my experience of "the game" (losing variant), it has always been categorized in my mind as a cultural reference in the same category as rickrolling. it doesn't make any sense without setup, being to point. just being like "the game. oh, we lost, dang" is equivalent to talking about rick astley's hit song never gonna give you up and being like "oh man i've just been rickropped!" like, you follow some cypher and reveal a hidden message which says "you lost the game" and then you go "aw shucks" or whatever. i've never thought about it much outside of that kind of context, but i suppose i've always found it to be probably the least interesting way to do that without flat out saying "haha gotcha, made you look!" rickrolling is indisputably more entertaining because the song is fun, and individualized references for the situation are best (like, if i set up some joke to decieve jan misali fans, then i would maybe have the hidden punchline be related to votgil or something). i have not, to my knowledge, encountered someone IRL that was sincerely upset by "the game" (losing), and while it is possible i have seen someone on the internet be genuinely mad about it, it would be in a context where any annoyance is better explained by just having been deceived in a lighthearted manner.

i mention all this because it is interesting how much people's experiences can vary, not to invalidate anyone else's experiences. i found your original post about "the game" (winning) very compelling, given your account of your experience with "the game" (losing), and i hope people stop being weird and rude about it to you at some point.

this comparison doesn't work.

the joke with rickrolling isn't just that whenever you hear the song never gonna give you up in any context "you lose". the joke is that someone sends you a link to something, and then instead of the thing they said it was it's never gonna give you up instead. it's like, an actual prank. you were tricked, with tangible consequences. it's all in good fun of course, but like, it's still a real prank.

The Game is nothing like that. if you get rickrolled but don't like the joke, you've still been tricked, but if you don't like the joke with The Game, someone is just. asking you to be performatively angry, and then you have to decide if you want to play along or not

I have a question about your Misali Votgil from your Homestuck video. As stated in the mspfa one of the guidelines you gave Boogs when designing Misali Votgil was a specifically #008472 blood color. This would give Misali Votgil an unestablished caste. What I wish to know is what this means in terms of the lore of your Homestuck video in which you definitely did not intend any lore. Is Misali considered a mutant? Do they live on Alternia and are likely to be culled?

no, they have teal blood. the idea that blood color isn't allowed to deviate from literally a specific hex code is very silly and not how colors work
