Btw just in case anyone has no idea who Jan Misali is and doesn’t mind watching a video and reading a mini-comic to understand this post, [HERE IS THE VIDEO] and [HERE IS THE COMIC]. Technically you don’t need to read the whole comic, just the [ending page]. It’s also based on a web comic called Homestuck which I’m gong to assume you already know about, If you don’t know what Homestuck is please tell me how you found this Tumblr post and why you’re reading it, that information will be very useful for my marketing department.

I also want to make something else clear before I start, This post will not be about the video A Video About Homestuck but instead about the universe it showcases that just so happens to have the exact same name, which I will be calling A Video About Homestuck (disambiguation) shortened to AVAH(D). 

Anyway this post is about the in-universe planet Drsk which looks like this. In  AVAH(D) it’s replacement for Derse but it’s also the only planet we ever see, and even then we only ever see the inside of a building presumably inside of the blue territory. There is no Prositian equivalent, which makes sense because Drsk(planet) is based off a constructed language that Jan Misali has critiqued, in their show Conlang Critic, which used to be their Youtube name. 

Anyway, showing only one planet implies that there is one planet, and on top of that, one kind of Carapacian. But we see in this panel from the comic that no, there are two distinct kinds of Carapacians, Teal and Red. 

So then how are their two Carapacian types when there’s only one planet shown? The easy solution that is unbecoming of someone who would type all this shit is that there’s simply another planet we never see and is never talked about, nut I have a more fun explanation.

The different colored sections of the planet house different Carapacians. Which colors they so in specifically are unknown but Teal would probably live in the blue territory while Red might live in the orange territory . The yellow territory might house white-shelled Carapacians just because it looks exactly like Prospit. This also ties back to Misali Votgil’s blood color, as their dream self wakes up in the blue territory which would house Drskites of their blood color. Misali’s server player, Boogse, also appears to have light-orange blood, which might hint at them an Orange Territory dreamer.

Ok now I’m just gonna analyze the scene we see with the two Carapacians. It’s based on a panel from the Jan Misali video [hangman is a weird game at 8:45]. That link takes you to the specific timeframe btw, but I recommend watching the video anyways. You know, assuming you haven't seen Jan Misali’s most popular video but still decided to read through this entire post. Anyway, as I was saying, The Red Carapacian is holding chalk, which is funny because the medium they’re playing hangman on is a computer. This means that they might be using the chalk to press the keys for some reason. They might be just having a snack as Carapacians have been known to do. Or my personal favorite explanation, that is their weapon of choice and they are going to attack the Teal person, which brings me to my second note. In the original video the Red individual wins the game of Hangman, but in AVAH(D) they have seemingly lost, as the hang(ed) man is not yet complete (And are very upset about it). This implies that either the Teal Carapacian just got luckier than their video counterpart or  the Teal Carapacian has LEARNED of the Red Carapacians tricks since last game.

Also, because it’s likely Jan Misali is reading this, weather they found it or someone sent it to them, I would like to bring to their attention r/Prolangs which I have not yet seen them mention anywhere once, which I found while making this post.

oh this is very fun! Misali Votgil was originally designed by Boogs for "a video about homestuck" so I can't take the full credit here but I agree their design is very nice : )

in my experience of "the game" (losing variant), it has always been categorized in my mind as a cultural reference in the same category as rickrolling. it doesn't make any sense without setup, being to point. just being like "the game. oh, we lost, dang" is equivalent to talking about rick astley's hit song never gonna give you up and being like "oh man i've just been rickropped!" like, you follow some cypher and reveal a hidden message which says "you lost the game" and then you go "aw shucks" or whatever. i've never thought about it much outside of that kind of context, but i suppose i've always found it to be probably the least interesting way to do that without flat out saying "haha gotcha, made you look!" rickrolling is indisputably more entertaining because the song is fun, and individualized references for the situation are best (like, if i set up some joke to decieve jan misali fans, then i would maybe have the hidden punchline be related to votgil or something). i have not, to my knowledge, encountered someone IRL that was sincerely upset by "the game" (losing), and while it is possible i have seen someone on the internet be genuinely mad about it, it would be in a context where any annoyance is better explained by just having been deceived in a lighthearted manner.

i mention all this because it is interesting how much people's experiences can vary, not to invalidate anyone else's experiences. i found your original post about "the game" (winning) very compelling, given your account of your experience with "the game" (losing), and i hope people stop being weird and rude about it to you at some point.

this comparison doesn't work.

the joke with rickrolling isn't just that whenever you hear the song never gonna give you up in any context "you lose". the joke is that someone sends you a link to something, and then instead of the thing they said it was it's never gonna give you up instead. it's like, an actual prank. you were tricked, with tangible consequences. it's all in good fun of course, but like, it's still a real prank.

The Game is nothing like that. if you get rickrolled but don't like the joke, you've still been tricked, but if you don't like the joke with The Game, someone is just. asking you to be performatively angry, and then you have to decide if you want to play along or not

I have a question about your Misali Votgil from your Homestuck video. As stated in the mspfa one of the guidelines you gave Boogs when designing Misali Votgil was a specifically #008472 blood color. This would give Misali Votgil an unestablished caste. What I wish to know is what this means in terms of the lore of your Homestuck video in which you definitely did not intend any lore. Is Misali considered a mutant? Do they live on Alternia and are likely to be culled?

no, they have teal blood. the idea that blood color isn't allowed to deviate from literally a specific hex code is very silly and not how colors work
