Shuttle for Mars is departing now. Please keep hands, feet, tails, and other appendages clear of the yellow line.

‘Nice, finally get off work on time for once! Man is it empty, way less busy than the 5:45 one…

Are they sleeping? Please tell me they’re sleeping…’

“Snnrk…”

‘Oh good they are, oooh lots of empty seats next to them! Nice.’

The young human sits across the large figure and looks around.

‘Wonder why everyone else is sitting so far away from this guy? He’s not that much scarier than a Alteauh…OH! He’s an Orc! An actual Orc, oh this is so cool! Wait. Calm down, control yourself. Orc’s are people too, not some exotic animal in a zoo….he’s sooo cool looking tho!’

The human smiles and takes out their headphones and listens to some music and take in the view they see through the shuttle’s windows. From time to time they peek at the orc, can’t helping themselves from people-watching him.

Like what most humans imagined, he was huge. Easily more than 7 feet tall, with large calloused hands bigger than their head. He had large tusks but unlike the stereotypes he was well trimmed with well relatively kept hair. It would have neater had there not been dust in it. The orc wore dirty cloths and work boots. Beside them what looked like a tool box and bag.

‘Must be a construction worker or works in a trade’ they mused

‘Poor guy, he’s gotta be exhausted to sleep here. At least he gets to go home now.’

The shuttle shakes and with it so does the sleeping giant. Rocking side to side.

'That's not good.' They nervously slide off their headphones.

The turbulence increases until the sleeping orc leans too far and starts fall face first off his seat.

“OH SHIT!” Diving to their knees they manage to catch his head and shoulders.

“Mm?”

“You okay?” Damn he's heavy!

“Mmm…sorry.” Rubbing the sleep from his eyes he slowly got back into his seat, the turbulence now gone.

“No worries, I just didn’t want you to hit your head.”

“Heh, wouldn't be the first time I’ve done it.”

after rubbing his eyes a bit more and a crack of the neck he looks at them, brain finally working to some degree.

“…wait. You caught me?”

“Uh-huh”

“But you’re so small! Are you hurt?”

“You're not the first sleeping giant I’ve caught. I’m alright.”

“I am so sorry for that. I just finished working a 12 hour shift fixing the 1st and 3rd engine rooms and couldn’t help myself from dozing off.”

They whistle. “12 hours? No wonder you’re tired! If I were you I’d be in a coma.”

“Ah but surely you have a difficult job yourself. How else would you be able to catch me?”

“No, nothing like yours! I just work at a youngling centre.”

“The one on the ship?”

“That’s the one.”

“...YOUR ONE OF THE BRAVE WARRIORS WHO RISKED THEIR LIVES TO PROTECT THE CHILDREN??!”

“…you’ve heard of us?”

“Every orc and warrior worth their blade knows of your valiant deeds!! Tell me, what is your name??”

“Kim, uh and you are?”

“Fenrir. It is truly an honor to meet someone of your bravery and intelligence."

"Likewise! I've heard that the orc species are a true warrior race."

For the rest of the trip the two talked. Kim sharing how her and Max built such a safe room in the centre, which lead to the two realizing how similar each other's planets are.

"You have wind whirlpools as well? I thought they only existed on Bantor!"

"Well we call them hurricanes and tornadoes but yeah. Do you guys have hail?"

"Not where I grew up but nearby farther up they get a week or two of light hail showers during the fall. What about animals? Do you have reptiles bigger than an adult with large teeth and live in rivers? We call them darthrang."

"Oh we call them crocodiles!"

"Amazing! To think that your species live in a world much like mine!"

When the shuttle finally reached it's destination the two went their separate ways. A few days later they meet again, this time on the later shuttle. They sit and talk and create a routine of sorts where they became each others travelling companion for the trip to Mars.

One day however, Fenrir stopped coming. The human was saddened as she enjoyed his company but was soon surprised when seeing him at the centre.

"Kim! I've been transferred to stay on the ship so I won't be taking the shuttle to Mars anymore."

"Oh...well, as you know I only go home at the end of the week so maybe we can hang out now. Like eat lunch together or have a drink after work...or something like that!"

"Actually we'll be seeing each other everyday now. But if you don't get sick of me then yes, lets each lunch together."

"Great! But why will I be seeing you everyday?"

"Because after telling my family about you and the centre they've enrolled my nieces and nephews and younger siblings here...and I offered to drop them off and pick them up."

It was then that Kim noticed the dozen of orc children hiding behind Fenrir. The tallest and what looked the eldest of them stepped forward.

"Hello, I am Athea, uncle Fenrir said your one of the ones who saved the centre."

"Yes, my name is Kim. It's great to meet you AtheaaAA!" The orc girl pulled the human into a tight hug, lifting the adult woman off of her feet.

"Thank you for saving Nova." she mumbled into her chest.

'Ah, the Captain's daughter' Kim thought. "I was just doing what any teacher would do."

After a moment the human was put down and lead the children into the centre. The day went well. Fenrir's young family members were quickly won over by the humans, first with the saving of the centre, then with how they understood how wonderful their planet was rather than terrifying or deadly.

They were also greatly intrigued by how such a small species could survive in a planet that was thought to only be habitable to orcs.

"How can you carry us?" asked Thor, one of Fenrir's youngest brothers. "We're much bigger than a human child."

"Yeah but your not bigger than my cousins who are teenagers. Also just last month I had like 10 kids climbing on me. Two were tighalaxes."

"Your joking!"

"It that tumpon?!"

"Hm? We call it maafe, but it's also known as peanut stew, do you want some? It doesn't have any meat in it though."

"Guys Max has tumpon!! Can you tell Fenrir where we can buy the ingredients?"

"Of course. Finally I'll finish what gran gave me without having to gain 10 pounds."

And thus the first day ended on a high note! Now if only Kim could figure out why the children looked at her and nodded while talking to Fenrir...

Moonlight Mystique is so bizarre because theres been such obvious care taken into it but they somehow missed on making the leads engaging, something theyve accomplished in almost every side plot?

Fan Yue and Bai Shuo just come across so extremely sanitized, they exist in this world where everyone has blood on their hands but somehow exhibit moral purity you cant even find in regular wuxia..

The fact that all the other characters seem to possess deep wells of emotion and ambiguity, theyre deeply hurt and they commit awful acts against each other whether on purpose or through possession, yet the leads are increasingly varnished is so... peculiar.

Is it a reaction to the need for green flag leads? I dont think so considering just how dark theyve managed to go with lingzhao and still had people root for them.

Is it that the story itself calls for them to be this way later on? That seems to be the only option, but their clear righteousness and the way they weild it against other characters robs them of all that might have made them interesting.

Disinterest Fan Yue showed at the beginning is not enough to sustain a character or a relationship, they each seem capable of distancing themselves from all earthly matters and Actual Feelings so they end up alienating the audience when theyre shown as Upset because its unconvincing.

Whether it be Fan Yues reaction to Qi Fengs reveal and his immediate turn to "nobody deserves to die we must not continue the cycle" after having supposedly cared enough to curse himself, or Bai Shuo having little to no care in the world to the boy she was raised with and saw as a brother.. they seem entirely seperate in ability to feel and its jarring because every arc is so concerned with the fear, sadness, joy and daily lives of the sides.

Log date 510: today human Max is not here and that is disappointing as I have tremendous amounts of fun when he is here

Log date 511: human Max is still not here, maybe he is sick? I will ask Giver what helps humans get better when sick and then have my drone deliver it to him!

Log date 515: …human Max is still not here and it is the end of the week as he would call it…I miss him

Log date 518: Human Max is here! I have missed him greatly for he is the most fun one! We will play catch and build and draw and, and…human Max is sad today…

Log date 520: He is still sad. He plays catch and draws and builds but is still sad…this is not fun for me. He is not fun.

Log date 522: ….human Max lost his Giver. His Giver was hit by a transportation vehicle and died in the medical bay. He couldn’t say good bye as he is here and she was light years away in Earth…

Log date 522-b: I told Human Max he is not fun. That he is sad. He lied and said he was okay and forced a smile. I told him he is my favourite because he is the most fun but it’s okay to not always be fun… I asked him about his Giver and he told me stories of her. Soon everyone sat down to hear the stories and still stayed when he cried.

Log date 523: Human Max will be gone for a while until he is better. I miss him because he is fun but I want him to be better because I have the most fun when he is feeling well. He lost his Giver and that will take a while for him to be okay…and I will wait patiently for that

I hope you like it! It was one of my favourite book series' growing up (I have almost the full collection but it's sadly out of print and so the final book in the series is borderline impossible to find!). Each book was narrated by a different team member and while Richelle was my favourite (of course), I always had a soft spot for Elmo, and this book is definitely one of my favourite Elmo-pov one (it's probably this or St Elmo's Fire).

They're all such fun little mysteries, and I hope reading it gives you at least a little break from The Horrors of the world.

Eddie is basking in the glow of a good barbecue at Bobby and Athena’s lounging in one of the deck chairs, chatting idly to Karen and Hen when he feels a warm body of heat suddenly pressed up against his side.

Hen and Karen share an amused look while Buck presses his face into Eddie, sliding his arm under Eddie’s to lace their fingers together.

“Hey Buck,” Karen says softly, “where’s Natalia?”

“Bathroom,” he mumbles into Eddie’s shoulder. Buck had come to the barbecue directly from an overtime shift, only stopping to pick up Natalia on his way. He had started off the gathering with high energy, stopping to chat with everyone, and running around the backyard with all the kids but he had clearly hit a wall and is fading fast.

“Translation?” Hen asks, directing the question towards Eddie.

Eddie can feel the soft puffs of air that is Buck’s breath evening out as he verges on the edge of sleep against his shoulder. “Bathroom,” he responds, “but I doubt they’re sticking around much longer.”

As if on cue Natalia appears beside them.

And so they decided to let Ji Ho be claimed by Caleb to make it easier for Vlad to claim him back... and because everyone thinks Ji Ho hit the lottery with Caleb ^^'

And then finally, finally Vlad and Jeb made their way back from the Otherworld! But where are their shirts?

They ran over to the temple. Hopefully in time! Ouf! Luckily Genji was quick-witted enough to steal some time. He started an argument with Lady Demon about that Ji Ho is his bonded and it's not legal to steal him away from him and give him to Caleb...

Vlad: "What is going on here?" (Vlad and Jeb really had no idea what is going on here. They went over the fence to the Otherworld and hadn't heard of Ji Ho since they travelled to the Tomarang with the ship from Selvadorada.)

Saiwa: "Gods, Jeb!" *hungry kiss* Vlad went to the altar to stop this madness: "Ji Ho is mine!"

Genji: "Hey, Caleb. How about we two share a coffin?" Genji is very clever. He started the argument with Lady Demon not only for Ji Ho and Vlad. He wanted to hit on Caleb ;)

Now that Ji Ho's rightful bonded is back, they decided to make their bond official in vampire terms so no one ever will question it again and try to claim Ji Ho while Vlad is in the Otherworld.

Ji Ho: "Let's go over to the sanctuary and fix your eyes..."

And that's what they did.

They undressed and kissed.

Ji Ho: "Claim me."

And that's what Vlad did.

When I added Vlad and Jeb to the household during Ji Ho and Caleb's ceremony, Vlad spawned there and looked so sad.

Poor Lady Demon. The lucrative deal with Ji Ho is called off. But she will get a pretty penny for setting up Caleb with Genji too ;)

And finally Vlad asked Ji Ho to be his boyfriend. Vlad: "From now on, no one will ever touch you again." Ji Ho: "But I want you to touch me." ... *sigh*

Malyen skips his watch, gets smashed instead, and Alina almost dies. Nikolai finds out, when Alina sends for him to discuss her "lead" on the Firebird.

Why is Nikolai ~nice~ to him? Considerate?

Malyen's acting like an asshole towards Nikolai, Nikolai suffers him for Alina's sake, okay, but why is everyone kind to him?! It's not even passive-aggressive! He's not some baby to be coddled!

With all due respect... which is none, since this is a prince of Royal blood talking to a nobody drunkard, who just failed his one and only official task, effectively endangering the future of the whole country.

Nikolai is incredibly tactful, so he receives snide barb in return.

During this whole scene, Nikolai's acting like a perfect gentleman, letting Malyen's misbehaviour slide for Alina's sake. In return, she think him all too happy to exploit her weakness.

Y'no what? I want Alina to SEE the difference!

That perhaps she doesn't need to be treated like shit. She doesn't need to feel alone, while waiting for scraps of negative attention. It's about time she started to value HERSELF a little. If you need a love triangle quadrangle (and don't have the balls for twisted adoring ETL), at least let the girl pick someone who's kind to her.
