You are so secure in your marriage with Nanami Kento that the sight before you of his cock disappearing into Ino Takuma’s ass doesn’t bother you in the slightest. In fact, you have the added benefit of Ino’s tongue between your thighs to complement the view.
_________________
This whole thing started because of your wife intuition. Nanami had invited Ino over for dinner a few nights ago, and the whole evening you watched Ino make heart eyes over your entirely oblivious husband. You weren’t convinced Ino had even noticed your presence until you brought out the homemade pineapple upside down cake you made, and even then, he spared little more than a passing glance before gluing his gaze back on Nanami’s jawline and sparkling brown eyes.
You could almost see Ino be carried off by cupid’s arrows.
“Do you know he’s in love with you?” You asked as soon as you shut the door after Ino said his goodbyes. Nanami scoffed, completely taken aback by your observation, as he loosened the tie around his neck and started back to the kitchen to help with clean up.
“In love with me? Are you mad?”
You followed behind him and settled next to him to dry the plates he washed in the sink. It’s an easy routine you fall into every night.
“I just know what it looks like to be in love with you. I’m, like, the expert.” You playfully smirked when he gazed down at you with a high arched eyebrow in disbelief. “He didn’t look over at me once all night. He just kept going ‘yes Mr. Nanami, sir’ and ‘oh Mr. Nanami you’re so funny’ and ‘wow Mr. Nanami you have such interesting stories!’” You mocked Ino’s voice to prove a point, and it made Nanami laugh.
“That’s just respect, sweetheart-”
“No, no I played the same game. I can tell you for sure that it’s not just respect.” You punctuated your thought with a gentle bat of the tea towel in your hand against his forearm as he drained the dishwater from the sink. As you fluttered away to deal with the leftovers, Nanami stayed at the sink for a few long moments, his head busy with thought as he stared out the small window sat right above the sink.
A night or two after that, as you were getting ready for bed, you realized that Nanami was unable to read as he usually did. Instead, he’d go a few pages before zoning out, arm of his glasses gently tapping between his teeth. When you finally got into bed next to him, he didn’t even flinch.
“Earth to Kento?” You tapped him on his shoulder, and he shook ever so slightly from the daydream he was in. “What’s on your mind?”
“Work, naturally,” He answered curtly, and you furrowed your brows at the tone of his response.
“Who’s got your panties in a bunch?”
“I beg your pardon?”
“Work, naturally,” You mocked his tone now, putting on a face to show exactly how weird he sounded. He rolled his eyes, placing his book on the table next to him and settling his glasses on his face to get a good look at you.
“Am I not allowed to be distracted by…disgruntled by work sometimes?”
“Of course you’re allowed to be, but you never sound like that. Something is bothering you.”
“I am sorry that my tone is not perfect for you always, my dear, but-”
“See you only call me dear when you’re being weird about things!” You interrupted him, and it made him blow a sigh out of his nose as he brought a hand up to rub at his chin. He stared at you, waiting for you to back down, but instead, you studied his eyes for what could be bothering him. “So what is distracting you at work?”
“I said disgruntled.”
“You said distracted first,” You tapped your finger on the tip of your nose in thought, thinking, thinking, thinking, and then the light bulb blinked above your head. “You’re distracted by Ino.”
“Absolutely not.” He rolled his eyes as he turned away, but the bright pink blush illuminating his skin gave away his lies. You had to slap a hand over your mouth to keep from laughing.
“Aw, is Kento embarrassed about a little schoolboy crush?” You playfully asked as he sunk into the sheets away from your gaze, but this caused him to stare up at you in disbelief.
“I do not have a crush!”
“I never said you did.”
“I hate these mind games you play.”
“The lady doth protest too much me thinks,” You hummed lowly, and finally in defeat he pressed his head back into the headboard of your shared bed.
“How are you not jealous?” He asked, scratching uncomfortably at the skin behind his ear. You waved a hand up and down your body, pointing out in particular the silky nightie you wore to bed.
“You’re not going to cheat on me. You’re madly in love with me. I’m secure enough in our marriage to not be threatened by a teenage boy-”
“Oh my God, please do not call him that!”
“He’s 19; it’s just the truth.”
“He’s 21, pretty much our age, and totally legal-”
You gasped as he blurted out his response. “Oh my God, you’ve thought about it!”
He groaned loudly at the way you’re running circles around his brain, and he dropped his face into his hands dejectedly. “I’m a terrible husband.” His admittance was barely above a whisper, and you could hear the crack in his voice, and you knew immediately he was taking it too hard. You curled up next to him, patting his arm and shushing him softly.
“Kento, you’re not a terrible husband at all. All married people think about others at some point in their relationship. I’m just surprised at who.”
Nanami groaned again in response.
“Have you ever thought about being with a man before?” You asked softly, and you could nearly feel the skin under your fingers burn as an embarrassed blush shoots through him.
“I can’t believe we’re having this conversation.”
“I can’t believe we haven’t already had this conversation.”
He considered for a second, finally lifting his head from his hands to stare you down, search for any jealousy behind your eyes, but when you told him you were completely secure, you meant it. When he seemed satisfied with what he saw, he sighed.
“Perhaps in the past I…considered….it.” “Have you been with a man before?”
There was a beat. “Yes. Well before you.”
You looked up at your husband, and you considered him and the idea of him having been with a man at some point before you, and you felt your own skin heat up. The image made your heart beat a little faster and your skin tingle where he touched you and your head swirl in circles but not from jealousy or anger but from…lust.
He insisted you slept in his arms that night, but neither of you seemed to sleep very well with the thoughts left twirling in your brain. A few days after that is when you made your proposition.
“Kento?” You called to him from the position where you were perched on the couch with your own book in hand. Your husband was fluttering around your house and getting ready for work.
“Yes, my love?”
“What if we ask Ino if he wants to have a threesome?”
Nanami’s first response was a loud crashing sound from in your closet. His second response was a string of swears as he fumbled out of the bedroom and into the living room where you sat. His third response was finally words.
“A threesome? With us?”
“Well, not with anyone else. I’m not that chill.” You laughed, and it broke Nanami’s shocked expression for just a moment with a small smirk of laughter.
“Are you sure?”
“Yeah, I think so. I’ve been thinking about this new discovery I’ve made of your…interests,” You wiggled your eyebrows suggestively at him, “And I think…I think my feral animal brain really, really wants to watch you fuck a man.”
He nearly choked at your honesty, and it excited you just a little to see that pink blush paint his face again. He fiddled with his tie, considering what to say in response for so long you started to think maybe you misread the whole situation.
But then, you didn’t. You have a wife’s intuition.
“I’ll speak to him,” He stated, too calm and collected, clearing his throat. “Today, maybe.”
_________________
And that’s how you found yourself here, with Ino moaning between your legs, his tongue a torrent against your most sensitive areas as Nanami thrusts balls deep into him from behind. You pant, hand gripping Ino’s hair tightly, as you stare at your husband, afraid you might miss something. The way his lip is tight in his teeth, the way his pupils dilate every time he hears you or Ino moan, the way sweat is already dripping slowly down his rippling abdomen with every thrust. It’s like your own personal porn staring your husband.
“He’s just so big,” Ino grunts into you, and you smile and throw your head back.
“I know, sweetheart.”
“I think I’m going to cum again.”
“I want to watch your pretty face as you cum for my husband,” You encourage slyly, and you hear Nanami scoff a laugh away as he leans into the mean thrusts he’s ramming into Ino below him. Ino’s eyes roll to the back of his head, and you watch as he sputters a few shots of cum onto the already messy sheets below. You scratch his scalp as he drops his head, panting and gasping for air; Nanami fucks him through the orgasm just like he would you.
“Flip him over,” Nanami grunts, pulling back so you can help Ino onto his back, and the way his body is shaking, he seems thankful for the pause.
Now that he’s on his back, you run your hands down his chest as Nanami gently readjusts himself. Gently, your nails graze over Ino’s nipples, twitching the pink buds lightly, and his finger tips grip into your thighs as his back arches ever so softly off the bed.
Nanami lifts Ino’s hips and guides him back gently onto his cock, and Ino writhes with the feeling of being so full again.
You hold his head in your lap and pet his hair out of his face, cooing softly with each near sobbing groan Nanami rips from his chest. He’s holding Ino’s ankles, pressing them back to be able to reach even deeper, but his eyes are on you brushing your thumbs down Ino’s cheeks and jaw.
“Oh God - Mr. - Mr. Nanami, I can’t-”
You brush your thumb against his lips to cut his words into moans. “He prefers Kento, love. Call him Kento.”
“K-k-k-kento, please, it’s too much,” Ino sobs as Nanami forces him to dribble another orgasm out of his shaking body. You throw your head back and laugh softly at the sight, and it’s then that Nanami leans all the way forward, ignoring Ino’s squirming and overstimulated body between you, and captures your lips in a long, sensual kiss. His tongue laps at your lips, and you gently trap it in your teeth, sucking it into your mouth with precision and dedication. Ino reaches and grips your hips, panting and staring in awe at the sight of you two above him.
“I want to taste my wife,” Nanami whispers as you pull away from him, and so you lean back again, spreading your legs as Nanami pulls out of Ino. Ino starts to move out of Nanami’s way, but you grab his shoulder and keep him between your thighs.
“You can stay,” You whisper, encouraging, and when Nanami lays down next to Ino, he runs a strong hand down his back to keep him there too. You spread your legs a little wider to accommodate the shoulders of both men.
Nanami starts with a soft bite to your inner thigh that makes you shiver, and Ino presses soft kisses against all the skin he can reach. You press your head back into the pillow, arching your back, and let out a long moan as Nanami’s tongue swipes against your clit. He sucks at you softly, his lips causing your eyelids to flutter and the breath to get caught in your throat. Ino presses his lips to your hip, occasionally biting the skin there, but his eyes are glued to Nanami eating you out.
“Here,” Nanami breathes out against you, and he takes Ino’s hand, folding his fingers and guiding his pointer and middle into you. Both you and Ino moan as you clench around his hand, and Nanami starts guiding Ino’s wrist in and out of you as he continues to lap at your clit. “Curl your fingers.”
Ino takes commands well, especially when they’re from Nanami, and you can immediately feel the change in pressure as he hits that sweet spot deep inside you with the help of Nanami’s direction. You curl your toes and grip the pillows under your head, your jaw dropping and locking open in a silent scream of pleasure.
“Your wife is so pretty,” Ino whispers, watching Nanami’s face curl into a smile as he changes to a fast flicking pace with his tongue. His only response is to guide Ino’s wrist faster into you. Your legs shake at the stimulation.
“I’m going to cum,” You finally groan out, pants and whimpers falling from your lips in a crazed state.
“Good girl,” Nanami whispers, joining Ino’s fingers with one of his own, bigger fingers inside of you, and the sudden stretch pushes you over the edge. You cum on their fingers, your pussy pulsating against them, and Ino gulps in shock and awe, which makes you laugh a little when you can catch your breath.
Without any words, Nanami leans up onto his knees and guides Ino to a spot beside you. He lifts your hips, and as he places soft kiss down the leg he places on his shoulder, you feel his tip tease your entrance, and the stimulation makes you roll your eyes back into your head.
“God, please fuck me Kento,” You groan, and that’s all he needs to plunge into you. Your vision nearly whites out as he bottoms out inside of you with ease, and the grumbling moan that comes from deep in his chest as you clench his length makes your toes tingle. He fucks into you, the pace rough and hitting you deeply and intensely, and it is contrasted by the way his fingers draw gentle circles in your skin wherever he can reach to touch you. Ino watches in fascination at you and your husband make dirty love to each other.
“Ino,” Nanami grunts out, jutting his chin to the place you and him are connected, “help us out like we helped you out?”
Ino nods obediently, and immediately, his fingers on one hand find your oversensitive clit while his other hand reaches around and cups Nanami’s balls as they hit against your skin. You both groan, and Nanami falls forward slightly, his lips hungrily finding yours. Your kisses are messy and wet, and they make you feel all the more sensitive as Ino rubs you in all the right places. Ino seems to hesitate next to you, leaning his head towards Nanami’s shoulder but afraid to interrupt.
“Go ahead, Ino,” You encourage, and so Ino shyly places his forehead to Nanami’s shoulder. He presses his lips against Nanami’s rippling arm muscles, and it makes Nanami shiver against you, a pant of pleasure escaping from his mouth into yours at the gentle attention Ino is paying to him.
“I’m so close, my love,” Nanami moans into your mouth, so you take his face in your hands.
“Cum in me, darling, please,” You moan back, and the groan that pours from Nanami’s lips as he throws his head back, exposing his neck to you, is enough to make you finish on his cock. Your whole body locks up as waves of pleasure burst through your body, your lips desperately sucking at Nanami’s neck for something, anything to ground you. Your eyes roll back as Ino keeps overstimulating you, and it the feeling of your clenching, desperate pussy that makes Nanami finish. You feel him pour hot ropes of his cum into you, and it causes one last shiver of pleasure roll down your spine. Nanami nearly collapses on top of you as Ino sits back on the bed.
After a moment of silence, you laugh. “God, you’re so good at that.” Nanami laughs tiredly and cockily in response. Sex seems to be the only time he’s not so humble, and it’s lucky for you that it’s deserved pride.
“Isn’t he good at that!” You turn towards Ino, who is blushing right next to you.
“Y-yeah, he’s really great.”
“Ino, don’t let her bully you into complimenting me.”
He bites his lip, and you let your eyes drop down to his lap. The sight brings a smile to your face.
Ino’s cock is hard once again, standing at attention and leaking with need. When Ino sees you staring, he covers his face with his hands in embarrassment.
“Well, darling,” you wiggle out from under Nanami and gesture towards Ino’s new burgeoning hard on. Nanami lets out an impressed sigh, his eyebrow cocking high on his forehead. “I hope you’re ready to go again.”

Can we do multiples for this? If so, #8 and #12 for Drarry please 🥺👉🏻👈🏻
Sure!
8. Unpopular opinion about them
I am not a fan of drarry being depicted in canon universes as either 'cool masculine action hero harry'/'damsel in distress fragile draco' or 'sweet but kinda dumb and blundering harry'/'calm cool and collected ice prince draco' or 'enemies who still loathe and distrust each other postwar to very reluctant openly hostile allies to lovers.' All these dynamics are fine if you want to read/write them but the thing is...at least to me...they aren't drarry. And by reducing the characters to those dynamics you end up missing out on a lot of the nuance that makes the characters special and the ship interesting and you kinda flatten them into something pretty generic.
Contrary to popular fanon Harry is not dumb. He was supposed to be in Slytherin for a reason. He's very clever and observant and resourceful. And while he can be very kind and compassionate he also can be deadly when he needs to be and has a real temper that many people, even those close to him (though interestingly not Draco), can find intimidating at times. Draco also is a very good Occlumens and definitely matures a lot, but he's also not someone who is innately cold and dignified, much as he might wish to be. He's hot and firey and emotional too - just like Harry - but presents that in different ways. And yes in later books Draco often overcomes and masters his fears and emotions - because he has to - but it's not easy for him, and sometimes it all comes bursting out. And that makes him interesting and complex and human.
However Draco is also not a fragile damsel in distress. By the end of the series he is no longer the sheltered boy who once dramatically claimed to be "dying" because Buckbeak scratched him. He's been branded with the Dark Mark, been tortured by Voldemort himself, and used Unforgivables on others in turn - even if under duress. He's had to survive living with Voldemort and his followers in his house while he and his family were out of favor and virtually defenseless. He showed himself to be far more clever and resourceful than many would have given him credit for during book 6. In book 7 despite knowing intimately the terrible fate he was likely condemning himself and his family to if Harry & Co escaped, he didn't reveal the fact that he saw Ron & Harry had freed themselves from their bonds in the cell and didn't identify Harry and his friends, which bought them the time they needed to get away. He also held his own in a duel against Harry - who is extremely skilled - due to his quick reflexes, powerful magic, and strong ability to use nonverbal spells. Draco is tough and powerful in his own right, especially after the war and wouldn't just collapse into frightened hysterics at the slightest danger or find himself unable to fend off an angry group of younger students during 8th year.
He and Harry are equals and foils and parallels and opposites all at once. That's what makes their dynamic so interesting. They can stand up to each other and they never are afraid of each other - even when logic says they should be - and their skills and abilities and temperaments are extremely complimentary.
Also I love a good 'toxic dark bitterest of foes to lovers' fic but again, that doesn't feel like postwar drarry. They couldn't bring themselves to hate each other at the height of the war. Harry spent most of book 7 worrying about Draco. Draco risked everything for Harry at the Manor. They're not going to suddenly start a bitter feud after all the pressures pitting them against each other are gone. Postwar Draco would feel guilt and regret over his actions. And Harry, who lied for Draco after the Astronomy Tower Incident in book 6, is unlikely to suddenly decide he's angry Draco didn't end up in Azkaban. (Which is not to say he might not be suspicious of or curious about Draco's activities - but it wouldn't come from a place of hatred or openly vicious aggression.)
What's so fascinating and unique about this ship is that for all they are rivals and later enemies on the opposite sides of a war they don't hate and distrust each other the way you'd expect. Yes there's enmity and hostility. Yes they have to fight each other sometimes. But they also understand each other so deeply. And whenever one of them is actually in danger they always, always save each other.
It is this complex and contradictory relationship that makes them so interesting to me. And so unique compared to a lot of other ships and ship dynamics.
(I also wrote about an unpopular opinion for Draco here.)
12. Crack headcanon
There was a 7 year long 'will they or won't they' betting pool among an ever widening circle of students traumatized by having been subjected to their shenanigans.
Send me a character/ship from any fandom and a number.

Just wanted to tell you that pitch fefnep is real as fuck and I appreciate you bringing it to my attention.
Are there any other pitch ships you seriously live for?
My big one is Eridan <3< Calliope (#callidan let's make it happen)! There's a lot of karmic stuff linking them together - I'm not going to say it ALL here, but suffice to mention that cherubs are naturally attracted pitch-wise to people who resemble the half they lost in predomination, and Eridan literally made his username "cal" (caligula, so it's even 8 letters, lmao).
Personality-wise, though, fully-character-developed Eridan and Calliope are like a match made in hell. Eridan is violent, obsessed with murder, deliberately likes to style himself as an arrogant, evil despot, says a lot of slurs, is a complete moron who doesn't listen to people but believes in stuff very very strongly anyways, and, assuming he's finished his character arc, somehow still manages to be a force for good. This makes him similar to Caliborn in a lot of ways (Hussie even calls Eridan a sort of proto-Caliborn MULTIPLE times in the book commentary), and Calliope would have a lot to get infuriated by, especially since that last point would give Eridan that "i hate everything about you, BUT..." factor that makes a pitch relationship work.
OTOH, Calliope gets super fucking smug when she starts winning, Eridan would 100% see her as a poser wizard (who needs to load their MAGIC WAND with BULLETS????) as well as a poser troll. She would also definitely adopt a stance of "every life is precious," and already displayed compassion and forgiveness to a dangerous degree wrt Caliborn, and all of this would probably piss Eridan off. Also, Eridan is easy, and the fact that Calliope is actually willing to entertain him in pitch at all is probably enough to get him to date her in blackrom all by itself. LBR, all it really takes to date Eridan is just being willing to date Eridan. This is both a low and high bar to clear.
Given that murdering and genocide-obsessing literally kept his friends alive long enough to play the game, I just can't see Eridan ever becoming a pacifist, or even coming to see murder as a bad thing (even if he'd feel bad about and apologize for murdering his friends specifically).
It'd also be pretty bad if the Hope player (ideals, convictions, faith, and also turning fake stuff real) had wrong beliefs, so Eridan's character arc wouldn't so much see his obsession with murder dropped so much as having it reoriented, his focus becoming "I care about my friends and will do anything to make sure they succeed in creating a better world. I'd kill for them. I will kill for them. I am going to kill for them."
He's still kind of a token evil teammate as a result - the guy who pipes up at every town hall to go, "y'know, murder is on the table. I'm not saying that I want to do it or even that we should, but I'm just reminding you that it's a tool in our arsenal, and something our enemies might resort to" as well as the debbie downer who reminds people that meat comes from animals that used to have families.
Plus, given that his hipster stuff ties in with being a Hope player - the staunch and firm beliefs in there being "better" stuff, the unshakeable conviction and dedication toward being anti-mainstream, and the fact that it's one of his few genuine interests besides magic - that trait actually gets exacerbated in lieu of the fake pro-empire, dualscar-emulating stuff he was doing before.
So, basically, Eridan given the full redemption arc + character development combo would spit out an Eridan that's MORE annoying than he was before? Because, like, not only is he a turbo pretentious hipster now, but he's also the "heartbreaking: the worst person you know just made an excellent point" guy. He's comfortable in his own skin, no longer trying to be something he isn't. Instead, with absolute, non-negotiable, unshakeable faith in himself, he is 100% of what he is.
"What he is," of course, being a neurotic, murder-obsessed, low-empathy lunatic with zero social skills, a pretentious hipster, a cringe-ass wizard who won't shut up about it and has no self-awareness of how cringe he's being, still 100% aggro 100% of the time, and an obsessive simp. In a very leftist/existentialist way, he would fully own up to having done horrible things, and being willing to do them again, should the circumstances call for them. "Shameless" is probably a good word to use, here.
Meanwhile, Calliope is genuinely well-meaning as fuck, even if she doesn't fully grasp things like "humans going trickster mode is bad actually" and that her fascination/obsession with the trolls and kids as "characters" still borders on dehumanizing.
Still, it's clear that she operates from a place of love and admiration, and given a lease on life free from her brother and surrounded by friends, I do genuinely believe Calliope's arc culminates in her being the embodiement of the ideas that we must be good to each other, kind to each other, loving to each other, and trust and care for each other. After all, she has it within her; her alternate self was willing to make the ultimate sacrifice for the good of several universes.
Still, Calliope as this cosmic, karmic force of good - what the comic ultimately exonorates and treats as something worthy of protection and rescue - sets her up against Eridan ideologically really well. Calliope represents "we must do good" in the most optimistic sense - people will be kind back if you are kind to them, and to create a loving society, a caring society, we must care about others, we must believe in others.
Meanwhile, Eridan would represent "we must do good" in the most dark and pessimistic sense - we must be prepared to sacrifice for each other, we hold duties to one another, we must be our best selves because we owe it to each other, we must not accept complacency, we must be ever-vigilant of our worst tendencies, we must take responsibility. No society exists without sacrifice, no revolution is without bloodshed, and nothing is ever worth fighting for that won't eventually need to be fought for - and who will do the fighting? The society that separates its scholars from its warriors will have its thinking done by cowards and its fighting by fools, etc.
Like how pitch FefNep works for me on this axis of pragmatism vs. idealism - Feferi and Nepeta are both fundamentally duking it out over what it means to create and administer a society, with Nepeta representing unbridled freedom, while Feferi brings to the table controlling restraint. Neither is fully correct on their own - Nepeta is anarchic, and so her ideals are inherently unstable, while Feferi is fascistic, which can cause great harm. It's Hegalian dialectics. Thesis, antithesis, and their union/rivalry is the synthesis into a greater nuanced balance between the two.
Callidan works for me in the same way: Calliope and Eridan are both fundamentally aiming to create a world that's good, and Calliope says, we must be kind, while Eridan says, we must be cruel. They're both correct, and both have an ideal that can't stand on its own. Calliope's hardline stance of pure compassion lets bad apples take advantage, while Eridan's hardline stance of sacrifice and personal responsibility leads to misery and unfulfillment. Together, they strike a harmony.
And also they'd be so funny together. Like
UU: i believe that in order to create a kind and beaUtifUl world, we mUst be kind to each other. we mUst believe in each other no matter what. there is no fUtUre if it is not boUnd in love, trUst, and empathy.

The way the OIAR works versus how the Magnus Institute works is so interesting to me. Like in the Magnus Institute, a big emphasis on the people working in the archives is that you can't leave even if you wanted to and if you do want to leave, you have to blind yourself to achieve that. To me, at least, that screams equivalent exchange, a concept associated heavily with protocol. Like in TMA, it's like if you can no longer see, you will be free (from the Magnus Institute, at least).
In the OIAR, however, multiple characters leave very easily with varying repercussions. Teddy is hinted at having very bad experiences with his new job and everything, but we don't know the full extent of that yet. Colin spends a lot of the season away from work, which Tim also did in TMA. For Tim, it manifested as physical illness, whereas for Colin, it seems more like mental distress, but also, how much of that is due to him leaving vs what he was already experiencing before the start of the series.
The most interesting one is Lena because, obviously, she just left, but she really didn't seem to give a shit at all. Like she just jumped ship at a moment's notice, and I'm really intrigued to see if she faces any repercussions at all for leaving.
Overall, I just find it interesting that in Magnus, it is heavily drilled into the employees that they can't leave without massive sacrifice, but in Protocol, leaving is presented as something easy to do, and it isn't until after they've left that any negative consequences start manifesting. It was just something that kept popping up for me throughout Tmagp, especially as the very first ep is Teddy's leaving party.
#magnus archives#the magnus archives#tmagp#the magnus archives is a podcast#tmagp spoilers#Honestly I just needed to blurt this all out#Because I want to know if other people have thoughts on this#:sob:

Ship whiteknight?
Why white knight? Well let me show you
So, we will start out with the obvious: beacon. why would I ship this annoying dork with a girl that is clearly not interested and has rejected his advances multiple times? It’s simple, I don’t I ship the jaune that helps people,
See he’s a dumb teenager, they both are, but the key here is that jaune matures, sure the intended comedy left more than a little room for sour interpretation, he stopped and saw that she wanted to be with another, and promptly ceased his advances, this is very key to his characterization that we must forget, he genuinely wants her to be happy. And when Neptune beefs it because of his own insecurities? Jaune doesn’t come in for the rebound or any opportunistic sense, no, he confronts him and makes sure Weiss has a good evening.
Not only that, he follows up on his promise to Pyrrha at the dance, this once more highlights his good qualities, he may not be particularly clever or insightful at times, but when he gets it, he gets it
At his heart, he’s someone who tries his best and wants only the best for others. Rocking the dress while played for laughs, still shows that he will go above and beyond because people matter to him
(Also doing this in front of Weiss is important too, he’s not afraid of acting the fool to his crush, not at all! Hes been setting aside the macho bravado, which is a good thing if he’s ever to be in a real relationship) Now onto some Weiss analysis from the beacon era, pompous, classic rich girl, doesn’t have time for all this nonsense and is a career girl through and through- and though she would never admit it, she’s just as much of a dolt as those that surround her,
But we know she’s come from a terrible household, cold was putting it nicely, her fathers a terrible man who doesn’t love anything except money, her mother is an alcoholic that didn’t love them enough (if at all) her older sister being the only member of family where she’s had a consistent positive relationship, and she ended up running away to the military, leaving behind all the eldest daughter shield duties and trauma to her, which, boy that was a lot. And her little brother, her father’s favorite, she’s not anywhere near mature enough to confront, separate and acknowledge her feelings for said brother who is being raised to be exactly as detestable as the man that sired him. And what choice does Whitley have? He was so young, and he was left behind. Its safe to say she wants a normal, loving life. Desperately. It’s easy to see it in things like Zwei, how over the moon she was for the little guy, and in winter, how she comes to idolize her and seeks her approval over anyone’s. This girl is STARVED for affection.
With beacon being her chance to spread her wings a bit, it’s also natural to see that she would be interested in pursuing a romantic relationship, at her own pace. It’s no wonder that at first early volumes Weiss didn’t like Jaune-she doubtlessly dealt with the bravado of a dozen boys trying to gain her favor because of her status and wealth. Additionally, jaunes impostor syndrome ultimately bled into his interactions with Weiss as well, he was faking it all in beacon, what’s a little more to impress a girl? it’s not like shed like the real him, right? This and Weiss’s self-image of needing to be this pristine, perfect princess is also a huge factor as to why white knight wouldn’t work at beacon, its simply too early, Jaunes attempts were at the height of both their respective character flaws/failings. There's no WAY it would have worked.
Which is why she gravitated to Neptune, I think it was her trying to get out of her shell and try new things, yet still in the trappings of the “need to be pristine” persona. Thinking about this, seriously, yeah of course she was going to get a crush on Neptune, it’s what she knows except she’s convinced herself that its “different”. This suave guy that’s well dressed, knows what a perfect contrast to jaune doing is. It’s not like Weiss really knows Neptune but she thinks she does, at this stage of her life she’s really ruled by her first impressions of people (Ruby Pyrrha Jaune are some examples)
Back to the dance, an entire night worrying, feeling all sorts of emotions after what is likely the first time she opened herself up to a relationship and she’s been left behind. But of course, she must act like it doesn’t bother her, she’s Weiss Schnee, she’s above little insecurities like that. And along comes Jaune with the dress, she saw him make himself the fool in front of everyone laughing along it was a good time for all.
Lo and behold! When Neptune came back she started asking what happened, that she thought he was too embarrassed, Neptune says that it was Jaune that convinced him to come. The boy she’s rejected time and time again, the one she likely thought no more than a nuisance at best, took it all in stride and made sure she had a good time, he definitively proved himself as someone trustworthy, especially with how “an arc never goes back on their word”. It’s no wonder that at this point many people think it could potentially work out, they both have matured, and Weiss finally sees that while Jaunes attempts were annoying and grating, they were always sincere, especially when you consider he had no idea the significance of the Schnee name before.
This is all a solid foundation to work with, they’ve matured a decent bit from where they started, both now able to see each other in a better light. Its not that they are head over heels for each other, but you can’t deny this works as a solid foundation for a possible relationship down the line
But of course, it’s not all gumdrops and Weiss-cream
FALL OF BEACON Moving onto the fall of beacon the first person jaune calls for help with Pyrrha is Weiss, in his most vulnerable moment he reaches out to her, now could this just be how the writers decided the order of things would go? Sure. But consider this
I think he believes Weiss to be the best among them, someone who he sees as levelheaded and skilled to do something about it, since her semblance is the most flexible one of them all. If theres anyone who can do something, it’s her.
POST FALL
They’ve both are in their lowest point, truly where the new versions of themselves are put to the test, and oddly enough, both share a parallel with returning home both wouldn’t choose to go home, but one of them was forced to. Jaune decided to persist with his dream and followed through to help his friends, his loyalty is almost second to none: he was a hack, a fraud, no business being amongst his heroes, a dork at the best of times. The easiest thing he could do is return home. No one would blame him. But he didn’t.
Jaune is loyal, astoundingly so, he has a family, with 7 sisters, he could have gone home after the fall, no one would have thought twice about it. Instead, he stuck through, traveling for weeks through monster infested terrains for his friends with whatever they needed. At this point has been steadily improving, no longer just some punk that doesn’t know what they are doing.
(mans stopped a whole ass charging man-devil-horse -hybrid dead in its tracks, noodle boy has been promoted to Pasta with Beef) And yet...he’s still very affected by the fall, mourning. In the battle of haven he was recklessly pursuing cinder, he’s someone with a lot of pain, someone who clearly doesn’t think themselves as important as those that surround him.
Meanwhile everything in the Schnee manor is shit show, Weiss is back in the middle of her family dynamic, looking to be free once more. She ends up struck by her father, disowned and generally treated with scorn, then she gets kidnapped by bandits afterwards. Theres really nothing Weiss wouldn’t do to find real family. By the time they are all reunited, I think she will notice just how the members of Team J_NR are people to trust and confine in. Knowing what we know, Nora and Ren didn’t really have anywhere else to go given they are orphans, so it would make sense for them to follow ruby to haven. But once again, Jaune demonstrates true courage and chooses the hard path. That means something for sure. Skipping to the haven fight again, this is another heavy moment, particularly when Weiss-
Well, Weiss was nothing less than struck down. And what is Jaunes immediate response? The only one he seems to have, to be there, no matter what. And in that instinct to protect, in caring for others, he unlocks the mystery of his soul.
At his core he only wants to help, a selfless desire so strong, so literally suffused in his very essence of being that it actively manifests itself in the world.
You can’t tell me this means nothing to her. For a girl that has lived in a stifling coffin of a home. To find someone who’s so selfless and caring, despite never once needing to. Finding someone that manages to see her for who she is, who cares for their happiness without asking anything in return. Someone whom despite all they have suffered, still pushes forward to be there every moment they can in service for others. Someone who reached out with their very soul to halt the hand of death, fueling your own to give you the strength to come back, to your loved ones, never once even mentioning it. Is it any real surprise that love is in the cards for these two?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ What makes this ship work is all the post beacon stuff, they both have suffered terrible losses yet they still need to push through, they both have matured and see each other for what they really are, they can both look back on their beacon days and reminisce, laugh about how stupid they were, mourn lost friends and in that, they find comfort. They have both been given the space to improve and be better, and it’s not hard to see the qualities they would see in each other Jaune is a loyal and loving person, he knows about family and would sooner suffer ills before ever breaking a promise, someone who WILL love someone to the fullest. Weiss may be cold, but she’s a sweetheart under all that, she’s been hurt and desperately wants to love and be loved, something jaune wouldn’t hesitate to do.
Ok so my personal headcanons about Waldo and the detective in Lumpytouch’s series (for clarification, I see the detective as their own character, and not an extension of the player. It’s totally okay if you see it differently!)
WALDO:
Is not human. I feel like this isn’t a stretch considering what we’ve seen of him in the series. It doesn’t necessarily matter if he’s partially human or something not human pretending to be human- (though I believe the latter to be true.) in any case, he’s existed for quite a while. Maybe not immortal, but old.
He and his doppelgängers are a hive mind. There’s only five of them, and probably a more “dominant” one, but they share a mind, etc.
Hes probably very difficult to kill. As we’ve seen, he can create his own force field, (it’s also implied that he can “sense” incoming attacks, since he already looks annoyed in the episode where the detective attempts to shoot him.) so even if you *were* to shoot him at close range with a gun, he’d probably just block the bullet.
He looks very skinny and stretched out, and more nonhuman the closer you look at him, but despite his very thin appearance, he’s extremely strong. Inhumanly strong.
He DOES have a pattern as to who he picks to kill- it’s just not easy to establish what the pattern is. The only clear distinction is that he doesn’t seem to go after children, extremely old people, or those who are disabled.
As to his relationship with the detective:
I think Waldo has been chased by multiple detectives working on his case in the past, but he’s simply killed them before. The current detective is the first one Waldo has taken a genuine interest in. This is probably not to the detectives benefit.
He views their relationship as a “game”. Lumpytouch himself confirmed this via YouTube comments, but part of the reason Waldo was so annoyed by the detective attempting to shoot him, was because Waldo wasn’t “playing” at the moment. It was a cheap trick to him because they weren’t actively engaged.
He probably is as fixated on the detective as the detective is on him. Since it’s established he can teleport, he teleports to the detective sometimes and watches him from afar in secret to learn more about him. He’s been in the police department to read files about him (hence why he knows about the detectives relationships,) and even the detectives apartment at some points.
Overall, he likes the detective a lot. He finds him smart, but obviously doesn’t see them as equal.
THE DETECTIVE:
Hes not terribly old, and is considered to be a bit of a “greenhorn” with his cases. Detective McGuy (the one Waldo killed) was not only his predecessor and friend, but mentor. He looked up to him a lot, and being put on Waldo’s case is devastating for him.
^^ Waldo likes to tease him about this, btw.
The detective is extremely fixated on the case, to the point where he neglects his well being to work on it. Waldo would find this incredibly interesting. The detective also smokes a lot. Waldo doesn’t like this.
If you’re interpreting these two in a shipping context:
They’d probably have a sort of cat and mouse Hannibal lector/will graham relationship. The detective doesn’t even really recognize how he truly feels about Waldo, simply thinking his fixation is based on finding him and bringing him to justice.
Waldo is interested in whatever entertains him the most, and whatever makes his games more interesting. He’d vastly prefer a chase in any circumstances.
Feel free to add your own!
↻ pick a fic and a different ship and I’ll tell you how I’d rewrite it for: The Worst Alpha and carcar:)
✄ what’s your editing process? (i loooove hearing about people's writing and editing processes)
✦ what was your easiest fic to write & your hardest?
💕💕
Hiiii, thank you for the ask 💕
-> ask me more
✄ what’s your editing process?
Interesting question! I'm gonna answer with my writing process a bit, because both are intertwined (and you said you love hearing about writing process, too 🫣)
So for short fics (under 2k I would say), I mostly write the whole thing in one or 2 sittings, with no plan, just an idea in my head. And when it's done I edit multiple times. A first reread to adjust some details here and there, make a few sentences flow better. And then I do a spelling check, with 2 different softwares because English is not my first language so I want to get it covered.
For longer fics, I plan the whole story, I plan the chapters, I plan the scenes. Then I write scene by scene, usually in order. For each scene, I first write it very badly. I write the scene, fast and bad, not caring about beautiful sentences. The idea is just to put words on the page and to block the scene (like in movies). When this part is done, I go back and I edit a first time, going over all this poorly written scene to write beautiful sentences (or as beautiful as I can do), to make it readable, basically. Then, since it's a long fic and that some ideas might have pop up in the middle of nothing, I do one or 2 full reread, to adjust everything, make sure everything is coherent, make sure the character doesn't realise he is in love 3 times in 3 different chapters, go back to foreshadow an idea that popped in a later chapter, things like that. And then I can do a spell check on each chapter and that's it! ✨
✦ what was your easiest fic to write & your hardest?
Easiest: Corset ~ The words just flew out of me, and it greatly helped that @moossings worked on their drawing at the same time as I wrote, so I just had to put their sketches into words and that was so much fun.
Hardest: Steal your art (and your heart) ~ The first chapters were so much fun and so easy to write, I wasn't prepared for the enormous block that fell on me halfway through it. Writing the last chapters was so so hard, for no particular reason. I was lucky I had my dear @drspleenmeister writing with me 🫶
↻ pick a fic and a different ship and I’ll tell you how I’d rewrite it for: The Worst Alpha and carcar:)
Oooooooh, that's an interesting one. The Worst Alpha is omagaverse charlos, with alpha Charles experiencing omega Carlos' heat for the first time and having a whole crisis about if he is or not a good alpha. And truly, I think Oscar would fit that role pretty well too.
Oscar is an Alpha who grew with omega sisters. He knows what it is to be an omega. In theory. But he's never been with an omega. So it's all pretty new. And also, he has this massive crush on Carlos, because damn, have you seen that man?? Oscar was doomed from the start. But he's trying to act like a good alpha and not get overbearing with the omega he fancies, so he stays mostly away.
Then Lando shenanigans, probably. Maybe Lando does it on purpose or maybe not, but it makes Carlos and Oscar meet. Maybe, Carlos is in heat, and he usually goes to omega Lando for comfort during his heat but Lando isn't answering. And when Carlos goes to Lando's room, he finds Oscar there because Oscar is waiting for Lando to return too (maybe Lando asked him over and then forgot, or something like that).
It hits Oscar. The smell. Powerful. And so so sweet. Mouthwatering. Oscar is losing his fucking mind.
"Oh sorry, I thought this was Lando's room."
"You're in heat."
"Pff, this guy," Carlos huffs. "I know, that's why I'm looking for Lando."
"He's not here," Oscar answers unhelpfully, but his brain is completely fried. There's Carlos in the room with him. Carlos in heat. Oscar is gonna die.
"Well, tell him to call me if you see him."
Carlos starts to leave but Oscar stops him.
"Do you need help? With your heat? Until Lando comes back," Oscar offers.
"Sure." Carlos has never been with an Alpha before but this one smells pretty nice and also, he is tired of waiting for Lando, so why not? He's not afraid of a little Alpha rookie.
So they spend a little time together, in Lando's room. It's awkward as fuck. Carlos borrows a hoodie from Lando and sits on the couch, to play some game. Oscar stays with him and offers to help, getting him heat supplies that he steals from Lando (he doesn't care). He doesn't really know what to do, how to feel. It's never been like that in his family. Oscar is a pretty decent Alpha, but he never had to fight the urge to bend this Omega in half and fuck him senseless. But yeah, that's what's happening now. He is losing his mind.
He keeps his wit enough to half ass taking care of Carlos until Lando comes back and saves them from the awkwardness. Except after that Oscar can't stop thinking about it, can't stop thinking about Carlos. If he had a crush before, this gets to another level entirely because now, he knows what Carlos in heat smells like and it's too much for him. Too much to stay away. So he tries to get close, to court him very awkwardly (and never saying officially it is courting). And maybe in his quest to get closer to Carlos, he also crashes with him on track a little too much (oops 🤭).
They're not exactly becoming friends but they're getting closer. And Carlos isn't entirely immune to this awkward Alpha who's courting him, without courting him. It's cute. And he likes him more and more.
So his next heat, he doesn't go to Lando, he goes to see Oscar (Oscar once again losing his fucking mind as he refrains all instincts to fuck/mate/breed with the beautiful Omega). And again and again. They spend more time together, spending heats together. But nothing happens. They just cuddle a little, play games. They talk too, getting to know each other.
Until Carlos says he would like to try spending his heat having sex, because it can be fun and a very good time (Oscar definitely loses his mind at that). They almost kiss already, just talking about it, grinding against each other (Oscar is losing his mind, definitely). They agree to have sex next heat.
Next heat comes. Oscar is beyond excited, he cannot wait to be with Carlos again. But he sees Carlos with another Alpha (Charles, or Max, maybe). And the two are not flirting exactly, but they are not keeping their distance either. And with Carlos being in pre-heat, this could really be courting.
Oscar is devastated. He thought he was a good Alpha, but apparently he's the worst because Carlos is choosing someone else, and why wouldn't he choose someone else. So Oscar spirals out of him mind, while Carlos' heat hits and it's way stronger than before and without Oscar there to help him, Carlos is losing his mind too but for a whole other reason.
So a little bit of misunderstanding, and an intervention from Lando before they finally get together and it's all better, it's all okay. And their first time is awkward as fuck but so hot and Oscar is the worst Alpha but he doesn't care because apparently, Carlos loves it (him).
YOU have a very interesting take on sokeefe. you don't just love every part of it- please elaborate, your tags on anti sokeefe posts are FASCINATING
THIS TOOK FOREVED IM SORRY ILYSM FOR THIS AHDJDLFKWNKDJF
I think one majorly important thing about sokeefe is that precious bond they have with each other. In fact, that's what makes me love the ship so much. It's truly stunning to see such a natural love built on years of trust and support. They clearly display so many different ways of loving, whether it be emotional, physical, mental, or verbal. The way that Shannon captured them is something I'm not sure I've seen anyone else do the same way.
Sophie ignores her feelings for Keefe for the majority of the series and writes it off due to insecurity. And Keefe knew that. Yet, instead of just telling her how she felt, he decided to let her decide how to act. To not rush her or pressure her. To let her make her own decision. He held himself back and let her be with his best friend without telling her, which many adults couldn't bring themselves to do. But he did it for HER. Because he loved her, whether he said it or not. How terrifying must it have been for Keefe to be so vulnerable as to fall for someone when that had made him hurt so much in the past? How terrifying must it have been for SOPHIE, who'd not let herself realize she fell until she was far too gone to come back from this unscathed?
The two are often very physical with each other, from the constant support of holding one another's hand to the gripping hugs late at night when their sobs are louder than their family's disappointment. Not only do they show how they feel about each other with touch, but also with general body language. The comfort of Keefe turning her head gently to look at him. The way they relax around each other, their facial expressions and their hands involuntarily grabbing the other's without a moment's notice. The display of casualty hidden within the deep depths of their relationship. They even manage to think about each other with the same sort of intensity, the determination to keep the other alive and the sheer desperation not to lose the other. They're reliant on each other's safety, not because their lives would be in danger without them, but because a huge part of their happiness would.
The two often joke around with each other, but they know when to stop. They know when it's time to get serious, to remind the other of how high they think of them and how much they care for them. How they'll always be at each other's side. Their words say "I love you" for them. And while they're in terribly traumatic situations and had such different backgrounds, they're the only ones who understand each other. They're absolute foils who were born to be enemies and fell for each other anyway. Their relationship is a beautiful one, but it's also one that's extremely fragile.
Sokeefe's relationship could go wrong in many ways. There are multiple paths towards a toxic relationship that would be really easy for their canon characters to fall into. For example, while for now they help each other stay brave and empathetic, their vulnerability towards each other makes them more prone to toxicity. They're both known for being reckless. How easy would it be to accidentally get the other to do something terrible? Would killing a random Neverseen member be self-defense? Would that really help anyone in the long run? They're traumatized kids forced to lead, like a malfunctioning toy released before it was fixed. They have no idea what they're doing if you really think about it. Who are they to advise the other?
Another issue I've noticed is one that's super minimal now but could become a huge issue. Sophie, being a relatable teen girl, likes apologies for things that hurt her, even if she knows it's technically not the other person's fault. She's not going around asking for apologies that aren't warranted, but she's accepting them. And that usually doesn't matter much, but it does with someone like KEEFE. Keefe, who blames himself for things that aren't his fault because it's all he knows. He feels so guilty for his and his family's existence that he takes it out on himself. And that could turn into a problem. Because a boy who apologizes for everything he didn't do doesn't fit well with a girl who accepts them. Sophie would never want Keefe to blame himself for things more, but she could inadvertently cause it with ease.
On top of all of that, they often struggle with looking at each other realistically and being truly reliable about the other. Keefe doesn't think Sophie's perfect; don't get me wrong. Part of the appeal of Keefe is that he sees her flaws and still loves her through them. But he also doesn't do much to help her fix said flaws. Perhaps it's out of his own insecurity in thinking he has no place to judge others because he believes he's worse, but my point stands nonetheless. And Sophie often forgives too easily, which lowers her own standards while also making sure Keefe can't grow from his mistakes because no one's acknowledging them. They seem to move too fast at times, and slowing down could really help. Get therapy and learn to bite the bad habits in the ass, in a way.
Another interesting aspect of their relationship are the parallels of their own to others. A loyal girl desperate to believe the man she loves is good, even when he keeps doing wrong? A girl who doesn't realize there's a difference between good and right until it's far too late? I think we all saw the ruedacted/ Lodestar sokeefe parallels. And if you took any koralie interaction and changed the names out? Sokeefe moment. It's just so easy for them to end tragically, but they're so desperate for it to work out. They're walking on the most delicate of ice for a chance that they can meet in the middle. They're running across a tightrope, hoping they don't fall to the ground. They're pulling at the web in hopes that they don't get stuck in its fabric, but they ALWAYS do. Sokeefe is a beautiful relationship built on trust and love, but trust and love don't always mean something is good for you. Their entire existence is truly a bittersweet delicacy only to be enjoyed by the most careful of takers.
#ANON I STARTED LAUGHING LIKE A MANIAC WHEN I GOT THIS <33#i spent two fucking hours on this its almsot 2am help#if this sucks....its late as shit and ive gotten sleep in bits in pieces and had a terribly stressful day sooo blame that#somebody ASKED for my ramblings ahhhhhh <33#kotlc#keeper of the lost cities#keefe sencen#sophie foster#sokeefe#twilomiwb
Hey E! idkifishouldaskhereorinyourcodaccount BUT I’ll ask anyway. I’ve noticed you post a lot about Frank Woods, what made Woods be THE favorite character for you?
Hey no worries, I'm not exactly the most organized so it doesn't make a difference to me!
Oh my god where do I start? I'm going to try so hard to hold back because I will just tell you everything I like about him and this will take me even longer to write 😅
Frank falls into the unwanted child trope a bit. Not confirmed by Activision, but close enough and it is a trope that I find myself drawn to. The idea that he was a runaway, his home life must have been bad enough that the streets were better. Born right at the start of the Great Depression so his early life was never going to be easy. But he must have been resourceful and smart enough to survive. Another quality I like in my faves. It's interesting to think about that piece of his history that we will probably never get in any detail in canon. But that's ok, I'm happy to fill in the gaps with my own headcanons and fics.
Frank was then able to pick himself off the streets and enlist (his options were so limited, but he must have made the best choice for himself at the time.) Become such a standout that he was recruited into the CIA. And there, despite being a "self-reliant loner" he developed close friendships with Mason and Bowman. (as an aside, it is always funny when people hc he's an extrovert when he's very much not)
It's clear he cares for them deeply, even at the expense of his own well being as seen in 'Payback.' I do think he was still reeling from Bowman's death and that's why he acted with such reckless disregard for his own life. (But that's headcanon)
The way he reacts when anyone else is hurt or in danger, it's always them first him second, even in the middle of a firefight (redirecting Mason's attention to the pilot in 'Victor Charlie,' the kid on the PBR in 'Crash Site', the nurse during 'Suffer With Me' in BO2, multiple examples).
Then the way he treats Bell. I think he's the first person to deliver Bell a genuine compliment in the game (if you're a good shot). He knows his people and if I could ever get the damn sound bite again of him saying to Bell that he'd bet they'd like five minutes with the supercomputer to work again I'd link it here. How does he know Bell is such a nerd if he doesn't give a damn about his team?
He and Mason are the only ones who actually treat Bell as a member of the team. And that endeared me to him before I even knew about the plot twist.
And of course, the pain of Black Ops 2. He's just fucking dragged through the ringer isn't he? Everything, the shipping container, watching his entire team die, his tragic mistakes and how he reflects them as an old man. I really love that we get to see him as an old man. See him removed from his experiences in the 80s section of BO2. It's so interesting.
I mean even while he's still managing fresh life-changing injuries he still rallies for a kid who needs him. And he must have done a good job raising David because the kid turned out just fine in the end.
I probably could think of a half dozen more specific examples, his outrage at Project Greenlight for one: "Thousands dying in a flash and you're talking about fucking infrastructure."
Or how he has David's childhood drawings hung up in his room at the Vault.
I'm sure I'll have a dozen more after Black Ops 6 comes out if they deliver on the promised emotional journey storyline for Frank. (God, I'm so unbelievably happy he's in BO6.)
TL;DR
Frank is a complicated person. He has had it rough but doesn't wallow in self-pity. He's a smart and capable leader. He's imperfect. He knows how and when to keep things light. He takes care of his people. He rallies when he's most needed even if it's at his own expense. On the shallow end of things? He's hot, he's got great fashion sense.
Sorry, it took me a bit to get this all out. I think again I was trying to balance the urge to just dump every thought and feeling I have vs trying to be a bit more thoughtful about it. Also just cross-referencing things from the games to make sure I remembered them correctly. I'm sure there's a lot I left out. I'm planning on playing through 1, CW, & 2 again before BO6 comes out so I'm sure I'll have more thoughts to share. 😅
I genuinely appreciate you asking me about this, I love talking about Frank. Thank you so so much.
#you’ve got mail 💌#thank you so much for the ask!!!#I was genuinely thrilled to get it#frank woods#call of duty#black ops#black ops cold war#cod black ops
I have been doing this meta analysis thing for a long time now and one thing that I have always tried to make clear in meta analysis is that for it to be taken seriously you must keep your personal biases out of it. You must come at it as objective as possible.
Rant under the cut
Its not always easy to do when you are dealing with difficult topics, or shining unfavourable lights on characters you love, or coming to conclusions that you werent expecting (recent meta discussions about Morpheus in the Sandman comics would fall into these categories).
What meta analysis should never be used for is to back up ship wars or specifically to shame fandoms for liking certain characters. If the meta isnt providing valid evidence to support the interpretations, and instead has fallen into name calling and mockery of fandom, its no longer valid meta.
I got this ALL the time in SPN fandom. Destiel was a huge fandom but as meta writers we stuck with what we were given by the source material and interpreted it with valid evidence. We understood that multiple interpretations were possible but we made sure that whatever we were analysing made sense and had some source backing. This wasnt always the case because meta writers are not a monolith, but the bigger blogs who wrote meta frequently at least understood this and would not be stretching to support their own claims if canon didnt back it up. Now no one is perfect of course, but the point is, proper meta writers understand that where they make a claim or interpretation of the source material, they have to site examples and evidence to back up their claims and also take into consideration any evidence to the contrary.
The people who hated destiel and made that their entire personalities didnt do that so much. I read a lot of their meta out of curiosity and every time I was baffled by where they were getting their claims. 'Destiel is necrophilia" was a big one which canon disproved almost straight away in season 5. "Destiel is rape" was another because Cas was using Jimmy as a vessel and yet canon confirmed Jimmy died at the end of season 4. Cas' body was remade by God in season 5 and has remained his own ever since. These are just two of the ridiculous examples supposed "meta writers" among the destiel hater communities would come up with and still use today.
I find it extremely infuriating when I see character/ship hate loosely disguised as meta analysis. I can give people the benefit of the doubt a lot of the time, as fandoms are usually highly emotional spaces, but when there is zero canon evidence to support the claims, when connections are being made on the absolute thinnest of threads, and when far more obvious interpretations are being clearly ignored to support certain viewpoints in such a stunningly obvious case of confirmation bias I have to throw in the towel and stop taking said meta seriously.
One thing I have loved about Sandman fandom so far is the meta. It's such a rich text to analyse, and the show adds an entirely new level to it which makes it all the more enjoyable. I've made no secret of my support for Dreamling and I wrote a very long meta series on Dreamling and how the show in particular uses certain tropes, symbolism, visual storytelling cues, and music, to name a few, to overload a 25 minute sequence with queer coding. It is completely understandable to me why anyone going into the show even without thinking about shipping, would feel like Dreamling hit them like a brick to the face. The creators weren't subtle with it.
Its also totally valid to find romantic interpretations of other pairings within the Sandman. I personally think Morpheus x Johanna was laid on pretty thickly. Morpheus x Lucienne is equally an interesting ship to analyse. But heres the thing, if you ship these other ships and are frustrated that Dreamling has "taken over" thats valid. I get it. I would like more focus on the other characters too. I would particularly like to talk about Lucienne x Gault and have a meta piece in progress about them.
Whats not okay however is for other shippers and people frustrated with Dreamling to go the way of the Destiel antis. Dont make shit up that has no basis in canon just because you need some moral high ground to shit all over the ship you hate. Don't call fans that see Dreamling "deluded" for seeing it. They aren't deluded. It's right there in the subtext. Dont resort to name calling and "gotchas" and use inflammatory language to bait people. And please, I'm begging you, stop claiming that people who ship Dreamling are somehow all overly fragile white racists. You're wrong.
The racism discussions about Hob's past have their place, but these things ARE being discussed, if anything I feel this fandom has done a far better job of handling the issues of slavery than another popular fandom has (looking at you OFMD). No one is forgiving Hob for his slaver past. But you have to acknowledge that the entire point of the story in The Sandman is about change, and growth, and how we can become better people. As another excellent short meta post stated recently "we are more than the sum of our transgressions". The Sandman is all about the shades of grey. No one is morally righteous, but most characters are not completely morally bankrupt either.
Hob Gadling is a controversial character who is often misunderstood by fandom but anyone with proper critical thinking skills and a decent understanding of what meta analysis is, should understand that Hob is a metaphor for humanity first and foremost. He is the average everyman from the perspective of an Englishman and therefore above all else to understand Hob you have to look to England, to Englands history, and to its current status in the world. A lot of blood on its hands yes, but also at least a century of trying to make up for it, a leader in the world in human rights and trying to do better. I have to believe that about this country, so I believe it about Hob too. Whilst I'm not interesting in getting into huge geopolitical debates about England, I hope that we can all agree that the average Englishman today is not a blood thirsty evil slaver/rapist/murderer or whatever else ive seen people accuse Hob of being even in his modern era.
We can argue the faults of the show downplaying slavery for sure. Its a valid criticsm. We can argue that not enough time was given in the show to show that Hob had changed and regretted his former actions. We can critique these things based on what the show has and has not told us, and also pepper in information provided in the comics and what we know about future Hob panels as well.
But when it comes to the blank spaces in between frames, in between cut screens, we can do whatever we like. Because that is where meta analysis ends and fanfiction begins. You wanna write about Hob joining the abolitionist movement and fighting hard to end slavery? You can. You wanna write about him ignoring Dreams advice and continuing to be a brutal slaver right up until slavery was ended in England sure, you go for it. But don't call either of these "headcanons" meta analysis.
Dont use meta analysis as a cover to shit on fandom. The minute you resort to name calling and mockery its no longer meta. No matter how frustrated or upset you are with the current fandom situation. There is always space to criticise fandom. But ask yourself what your end goal is here? What are you trying to achieve? Is it truly because you are on a righteous path to end fandom racism? Or do you just really hate a popular ship and want people to stop shipping it? If it's the former, then focus on that, ask what solutions we can put in place? Where we can truly tackle it on a larger scale, raising awareness of things that people may not realise are racist but are common tropes in fandom (like how making female characters all mothers or sassy gay best friends is misogynistic or how certain stereotypes in fantasy creatures are anti semitic) but if its the latter, then its disingenuous to use racism in fandom as a shield to hide your ship hate. It reduces an important topic to something shallow and irrelevant.
In ending this rant I will just say this. I'm not interested in engaging further on this topic. I'm legit gonna start blocking if anyone attempts to twist my words here. The civil discussions on this matter ended when people started name calling and flinging around accusations without basis. I am more than happy to engage separately in ways to improve fandom spaces for poc, because thats important, but ship hating has no place in that discussion. Drop that aspect, and there'll be less resistance in these topics.
Thinking about stranger things again now that the strikes are over and how, narratively, it would be way, WAY cooler to have Mike get Vecna’d instead of Will in s5
It’s just something about the way Mike’s trauma is never addressed or handled in any way?? Like, he hugs his mom twice and then when he was depressed in season 2 and 4 nobody did anything (his parents scolded him for his behavior in s2 ig but that’s not support). His best friend went missing leaving from his house, he watched his body get pulled from the quarry, watched El (in his eyes) kill herself stopping the demogorgon, watched Will be possessed, saw Bob die, was in Star Court when everything went down, saw Billy die, had his best friend move away, was SHOT AT (and really too few people talk about the shooting in Cali bc omg??), buried a body, and watched the apocalypse start. And that’s just off the top of my head.
(And yes I’m aware that the other characters (especially Will) are traumatized too but I will get to my point in a second just hold on)
The plot is geared towards this idea that Will and Henry have to have some big face off (and they should, in my opinion, but I don’t think it should be in a possession, or at least not the the Vecna kind of possession, yk?) but that makes it all the better, writing wise, to have mike be the one in danger. Will was helpless and hiding in s1, I think Will should get his big strong moments in s5 where he gets to be the hero of the story.
It would just be a lot more fun to work with Mike being Vecna’d than Will, because what are we going to bring up with Will’s visions? His dad? His sexuality? The events of s1 from his perspective? It would be cool to see, for sure, but we already know most of that. Mike, on the other hand, has a number of untapped things, like jumping off the quarry, why he’s so hesitant to tell El he loves her, how someone who was smart and kind enough to take El in in s1 and come up with the spy and sauna plans in s2 and s3 could turn into the oblivious asshole that he was in s3 and s4 (he needs therapy, ik, I still love his character but I want to explore the reasons he went from his s2 characterization to his s3 one)
It would be a very interesting parallel, I think, to explore Mike’s thought processes in this way, especially with all of Mike’s repression business (bc whether you ship byler or milkvan he is repressing his feelings HARD. Like, beyond his inability to say I love you there’s the fact that he doesn’t bring up the apparent many times he called pre-s4 during the Rink O Mania fight?? That literally would’ve absolved him of guilt in that argument since he WAS reaching out to Will the whole time? Hellooooo????).
Anyways, this all brings me to my main point: Vecna targets isolation as much as he targets trauma and guilt. The whole party was traumatized by the events in s1, s2, and s3, but Max was the one targeted. Plus, Henry went for Fred, Chrissy, and Patrick (I think his name was Patrick) instead of going for the perceivably easy targets that the mcs would make (ik narratively that would’ve made it more boring but shhh), so why Max and those three specifically? They were isolated. Lucas and Erica have each other, Dustin goes to Steve and Robin, Will and El have each other and Jonathan and Joyce, Nancy probably goes to Jonathan, and who does Mike go to?
No one. And don’t say Nancy because if those two have heart to hearts then I’m the next coming of Christ. Max separated herself from the Party in the aftermath of her grief and guilt over Billy, and it feels quite obvious that Mike was doing the same (like I said, he has repression issues). So Mike is traumatized, alone, and guilty (be it Will getting taken from Mike’s house, losing El in front of him multiple times, the many deaths he has witnessed, or the internalized homophobia angle), which makes him more of a target than Will, in my opinion (or at least an easier one, especially given his tendency to put himself on the line during fights (quarry, most of s2, s3 mindflayer fight), which would set him up on the suicidal ideation path)
Furthermore, as I’ve seen a few other people point out (and I can’t find the posts but one of them had eight screenshots of the various moments), Mike is always the one getting in the way, so it would be a strategic move for Henry to target him to get him out of the picture. Mike was the one that found El and got her involved in saving Will s1, he was the one who came up with the spy plan and called out the ambush in s2, he was the one to monologue Will out of his possession s2, he was the one with the sauna plan for Billy in s3, he was the one trying to help El get the strength to fight s4 (even if the monologue sucked ass it’s the intention that counts). As much as people like to hate on Mike, he is in the leader position most of the time when the party is grouped up (barring his mental health struggles slowing that down beginning of s3 and throughout s4, but he’s still capable of it). He’s the idea man, and he’s the one whose character’s foundations were built on the desire to keep his friends safe, so it would be a very fun plot line to watch him be the one targeted in s5. Like Will said, as lovestruck and cheesy as he was, Mike is the heart of the party when he’s on his A-game, so Henry should 100% be trying to keep him in the issues he’s been struggling with.
Obviously, Will and El are the Targets with a capital T for Henry since they’re the ones that got away or whatever, but I think Mike is a weakness of Will’s (and El’s tbh but also I think they need to have separate character arcs and I don’t exactly ship milkvan) that should be exploited.
TL;DR: Mike should get Vecna’d instead of Will in s5 because it would make sense in lore and be a very cool way to resolve his character arc
#wow this ended up being super long for no reason oops#I meant to stop at the first paragraph#oh well this was a lot of fun to type out at midnight haha#and I don’t see enough people talking about or exploring this concept#percy speaks#stranger things#mike wheeler#will byers#eleven stranger things#el hopper#vecna#lucas sinclair#dustin henderson#max mayfield#byler#character analysis#stranger things analysis#byler analysis#ish#I’m a byler shipper at heart but it wasn’t the main focus sorry
Pit Babe episode 2 rewatch/live commentary (part 2)
They're so precious
Look at that, pictures are back
I'm 100% behind the NorthSonicKim trouple idea, but I will always have a soft spot NorthSonicDean. I mean look at those two...so cute
Alan look so proud already and Jeff hasn't even joined yet. Get a grip Uncle
I need to know what they're saying behind that glass, come on , share the gossip!
His face and the way he look toward the boys always crack me up (+ them laughing at him)
"Multiple positions" 😏
When Jeff decided to try and join X-hunter, i'm pretty sure he never prepared himself for someone like Alan
Every time i watch this scene I'm always distracted by the trio shenanigans behind the glass panel
Charlie and the car matching again
So that who Charlie was meeting, i could never have guessed........lol
"I have an idea", famous last word Jeff !
Babe knowing smirk...maybe he's the one seen the future
I'm sorry but that smile with the almost wink toward Jeff....that Nut, not Way
You two are always okay with what the other want...it's cute
Alan is like "what the F! Babe?!"
Stop looking at each other !!!!!!!!!
And here we go 😒...nope, you didn't see anything Way !
Just how many potential team mate did Babe hook up with ? And how many of those hook up ended with the man getting thrown out the garage after a few days ?
Now that's a prime exemple of "smiling through the pain". Thank you Way for this masterclass.
Smiley babies! And i love how touchy feely they're with each other (pack behavior)
let's all take a minute to thank tumblr for the microwave result after the compression !
Do you think Apple agreed for the product placement ? In the Vroom vroom Omegaverse BL ?
And once again NorthSonic being like little angel/demon on someone shoulders (the color are even matching....but i'm pretty sure that's unintentional)
So, if i got this right, Way "left" Tony's mansion, came to Alan and after leaving the same situation, Babe ended up there as well....now that what i call a f*cking miracle!
Or Alan superpower is to attract and take under his wings poor little special alpha after they left their abusive/evil adopted father......see, i told you we all needed an Alan in our life !
Definition of "tunnel vision"
There is enough place to add like 3 chair around the table, but Sonic had to squeeze between Way and North (Am i implying that Sonic display some omegas behavior ? Yes, and i will have more evidence to show late on)
Dean gently tugging on Babe's arm🫠
One thing that i really like in the series is the easy physical affection between the characters. Especially from Babe (and not only with Charlie)
Sure Babe, and Denial is just a river in Egypt
Shut up Way !!!
How to *not* be subtle , by Jeff and Charlie
Pooh nailed the worried but exasperated older brother's face
That black leather jacket really slims down Pavel
Charlie had Babe figured out from the beginning
So you are angry because you think that Charlie is not in a exclusive relationship with you ? ->jealousy
Charlie being on the AlanJeff ship from the get go
..........🤦♀️ This show is a comedy...🤣
Hiiii Kim !!!!!! You're really pretty!!!! Especially when you're choking a guy into submission
🥰 Pop 🥰
He may try to hide it, but Babe love the idea of Charlie fighting for him (new kink unlocked🫡)
oh look, a *not so terrible* gif set🥳
Well, someone enjoyed that fight
The look that Kim give to Charlie and the way they look at each other....The chemistry is really chemistrying.
He's so proud of his puppy
And now, one of my favorite scene : Dom!Kim and really pathetic!Winner
I know that Pop is a cutie patotie, but that shouldn't apply to Winner
Look at him....look at them. They're perfect 😭😭😭
That's a very interesting car collection Babe
How does Way keep the showroom running ? On what money ?
Once again shut up Way!!! Go elsewhere !!!!
I don't know why, but i really like this shot
He's so gone for Charlie, it's almost painful to watch....But Pavel's smile is so pretty
Even Babe is done with you 🤣
And that it for part 2.....see you tomorrow
Good Omens hot take!
So we all love drawing parallels between the ineffable husbands and the other big ships, right?
Ineffable Husbands
Ineffable Bureaucracy
Vinylatte
Most of us imagine the mirror characters to be this, right?
Well that’s where I think we’re getting this wrong! I do agree with the vinylatte parallels, but as for ineffable bureaucracy? I have a different view. To me the parallels go more like this.
Okay so hear me out! I know it’s easy to draw comparisons because obviously the angel character will have more in common with another angel and vice versa for the demons. And that may be true on the surface. However! The more I think about these characters the more it makes sense to me.
Well start with the Crowley-Gabriel comparison, because I’ve seen this floating around a little more.
They have a good amount of traits in common.
Cold exterior, sharp language and mannerisms, secret soft side, all that good stuff. But what makes them so comparable to me is their impulsiveness. They (and Nina) tend to deal with their problems through schemes that aren’t entirely thought through and, most obviously, avoidance/escape. Crowley suggests multiple times that he and aziraphale run away together, and Gabriel’s grand plan for being with Beelzebub is to simply - literally - go to hell. (Nina’s example of avoidance is avoiding her feelings about Lindsay leaving her and her avoiding maggie so she doesn’t have to deal with any potential new feelings on top of those. This is a much less extreme version of how the dudes™️ handle things but then again vinylatte are really just the realistic balanced version of all the other idiots.) They’re not STUPID by any means, but they’re a lot more prone to an ‘act first, think later’ tactic. They also tend to show a lack of consideration about how anything they do to be with their chosen partner will affect the rest of the world. Crowley wants to go off with aziraphale and let the earth get blown to bits so long as they can be together and Gabriel leaves for hell not seeming to give much thought as to what will happen without him as supreme archangel. Gabriel’s plan also gives Crowley himself another chance to show his avoidance as his plan is to simply dump Gabriel somewhere. I love these dudes but they are, and I say this with love, a little silly.
Now to my favourite comparison! And no it’s not just because I’m delusional and think they’d be besties (though if you do wanna see that my fic Camp Armagetalong is full of my propaganda for that cause). It’s just genuinely such an interesting thought to me. In contrast to their respective partners, Aziraphale and Beelzebub are both a lot more strategic. More logical. To be quite blunt - they’re smarter about it. Aziraphale, while his hesitation may be frustrating, is correct in his judgements most of the time. He’s right that heaven and hell knowing about he and Crowley’s relationship would be dangerous and he’s right to try to cover it up for their safety despite how painful it may be. His plan when Gabriel shows up with his memory wiped is to figure out what happened and go from there.
In a similar vein, Beelzebub, while it may be less intentional, goes about trying to find Gabriel in a similar way. They ask the person they think is most likely to know where he is and when they get a lead they don’t simply go knocking down the door themself, they have an organised fleet breach the bookshop. Their gift to Gabriel also acts as a sort of backup plan to save him should his brashness get him in hot water - exactly what it does.
But above all the biggest similarity I see is that while Crowley and Gabriel deal with their problems by avoiding or simply destroying the issue, these two are fighters. These are people (beings?) who know what they want, face their issues head on and try to find ways to work through problems instead of jumping ship.
What happened to Gabriel? Time to investigate.
The system won’t let you be with your husband? Keep it a secret until you figure out a proper plan.
Someone’s being annoying? Either insult them right to their face or use the power of sarcasm! (Gabriel watch and learn. ‘Shut your stupid mouth and die’ is not as effective as an extremely bitchy glare.)
Okay I know this isn’t a very good analysis or argument I just wanted to ramble about my thoughts
akechi is so interesting to me because he sucks so bad. love when a guy is doomed by the narrative and it's so fucked (complimentary) that he's so desperate that he's willing to kill the only person who really understood him. but i think the fantasy of the joker/akechi ship, especially in an imagined post-canon where akechi lives and everything's just Fine, does BOTH their characters such a disservice. akechi is a foil to the PTs and a reflection of the fucked up social forces they're working against, and because joker knows this he's willing to give akechi multiple chances to work together despite everything he's done. bc of his empathy and his understanding that things didn't have to turn out this way for any of them. reducing all of that to "they were pining for each other" completely erases all of the thematic complexity and character development that makes their dynamic interesting in the first place!!
SLAMS HANDS ON TABLE eXACTLY. Like. The whole... social link is getting to know a guy who's lying to your face. You get little bits here and there but it's not until it's too late that you realize (these are interesting) and then all of that being taken at face value is VERY‼️
ALSo and forgiVE me for throwing shade at shekky but Joker wanting him to come back isn't "I want to be with the guy who GETS me" it's "I want this guy to face consequences like Kamoshida and the others did" and "I don't want to be separated from my beloved friends (who are EVERYTHING TO ME) to sit my ass in JAIL FOR TWO MONTHS" which HAPPENS and is so FUCKED because p5 establishes that dying is the easy way out w/ kamoshida and guess who WENT AND DIED- because the "Stay" ending shows that that's what Joker's wish was in the end and not JUST Akechi and auuugh rolls joker around like a katamari and wails.
#techno-trashcan#HC of mine that the only reason he doesn't tell off Navi!Akechi's in third semester is cause he's suffering severe Monamona deficiencies#akechi gets real fuckin' quiet once the PTs come back-- I'm JUST sayin'#Also people who depict Joker's kindness as submissiveness (esp in relation to akechi) make me really fucking sad and it's really common.#i saw a royal trio comic about it and it made me SAD
The Court Room Drama AU ⚖️
Pro
Great episode to show important parts of Kirk's character
he really is affected by any death under his command and cares for his people deeply
he's really trying his best with Jamie and stays kind to her throughout
The way Kirk refuses to let the others in the bar be vague about what's going on and wants them to be direct and honest, just like he tends to be (unless it's for a ruse); instead of escalating the situation he leaves
he holds onto his beliefs not only ethically but in himself as well – he knows what he did and sticks to the truth instead of taking an easy way out, even though the situation seems hopeless
The first time we see how decorated Kirk is within Starfleet- really one of the fleets finest. Also the way Cogley frames Kirk's decorations is so well done.
When he takes the stand he is 100% sure of his actions and himself. We know that Kirk admits mistakes when he makes them, and this instance isn't one of them
Shaw in context of being Kirk's ex confirms again that he really likes smart and independent women and respects them, even after a relationship ended
Kirk has good knowledge of engineering as well
Shatner's acting in the episode is really great – he can do these subtle emotions and Kirk's character so well
Also the fact that his crew trusts him, each in their own way, and know that he wouldn't do this. 100% ride or die crew
McCoy making it clear that he stands behind Jim from the first scene with Shaw onwards; Also Bones' southern charm gets me every time
Shaw is a great character: she's much more than just an ex, she has her own believes and goals and is competent at her job; also the tension between her and Kirk rising because of her duty to her position as prosecutor, when their relationship itself as exes is fine
Actually this is how I imagine Kirk being with ex partners, very nice, lovely and amicable.
Cogley is a great character as well: very adhd smart guy vibes, initially strange but when the hearing starts he goes off and is so competent and passionate!
Proper intro of the dress uniforms! (honorary mention of Kirk's slutty wrap top, of course)
Spock and Bones serving during the hearing in said uniforms, absolute kings. Everyone looks so good in this episode.
Even though said before Spock's defence of Kirk deserves it's own point. His argument is so vulcan and suits him so well, and his trust in Kirk as a person doesn't waiver for a second during the entire episode
The same goes for McCoy (also DeForest's voice during the courtroom scene is VERY nice)
Finney is another one of Kirk's nemesis, I mean how many nemesis can one guy have, Kirk is literally the ultimate ex no one gets over (looking at Movie 2)
This episode shows once again that Starfleet isn't as cleancut as it seems and has problems – Stone offering Kirk a way out when fully believing that he made that mistake and killing Finney is questionable at best
Great episode for further world building: we learn more about Starfleet itself (it's actually the first time the name is dropped), we meet other crews, other ships get named and we get some backstory about Kirk
Even though we have multiple sets this was supposed to be a bottle episode and it shows. Set mostly on a starbase (unlike most episodes that are about new planets), the characters are in focus
Great commentary made from a 60s perspective but still relevant today: the “infallible” machine vs the fellable human. We have three people vouching for Kirk's character in court vs one video and one computer log. The people get immediatly questioned whereas the computer is factual until Spock's proves it's wrong. The idea that mashines and computers make less or no mistakes compared to people is still relevant, see the whole debate about self driving cars.
Also Cogley's speech about human rights and machines not having those rights works really well in the context (will get interesting in TNG)
Generally the acting and interaction of all characters really hold the narrative until the twist in the end
Despite the serious subject the interpersonal moments and the way Cogley works provide some tension relief
I just love the way Spock sits in the captains chair here. No notes.
Con
Jamie can be exhausting
Shaw as an ex shouldn't work this case (even though she's shown as 100% professional and capable)
I know why it's done for the narrative but resolving this serious situation with a fistfight is wild
Counter
Kirk shirt rip (I mean this is the rippiest shirt so far)
Technically Evil AI (as the concept of computers gets explored)
Quote
If I let go of a hammer on a planet that has a positive gravity, I need not see it fall to know that it has in fact fallen. - Spock, believing in Kirk
"Mr Spock, you're the most cold-blooded man I've ever known" "Why, thank you, doctor" -Bones & Spock
Moment
Spock's, McCoy's and Kirk's testimonies
Summary
A great character driven episode that focusses on Kirk as both a person and a captain as well as his relationships with the other characters. The interesting question of computers being fallible as well as a personal betrayal while Kirk's future is on the line make for a good and gripping narrative.
