౨ৎ❆ ₊˚♡⊹ i smell snow - katsmas day 1
❄️︵︵ summary: getting a whiff of snow one chilly night, you persuade your grumpy neighbor to join you to watch the first snowfall of the year 🍫︵︵ notes: gilmore girls au, bakugou x reader, fluff, the rest of these cw are for ppl who havent watched the show: reader is a young mom, this is mostly dialogue tbh but a huge part of the show is how quick and witty everyone is, 🎀︵︵ word count: 1.8k
you wave and call out to your friend across the block, "night, katsukiiii!" you've known bakugou as your grumpy but somehow caring neighbor since you moved to stars hollow so many years ago. he grunts in response, dismissively throwing his hand before pulling down his scarf and disappearing into his house.
the holidays in your merry little town always filled you with joy. seeing the beautiful red and green lights adorning every lamp post, the festive cookies being sold at iida's market, and the gorgeous nutcracker ballet that mina forced her dancers to perform each year. it all combined to make you feel high-spirited. christmas time's especially meaningful as you never had experienced a proper childhood with the excitement of opening presents or building gingerbread houses, so the cheery season rekindles that sense of wonder and excitement within you.
"awe, that is soo cute! while you two are making googly eyes at each other, i'll just freeze to death. no biggie, don't worry about me..!"
you spin around with a playful roll of your eyes. "huh, i wonder where you get this dramatic flair from," you stick out your tongue to your teenage daughter, rory, waving your hand around in her face before unlocking the front door.
you drop your keys into a dish shaped like betty boop’s head, your feet tripping over each other as you make your way to the kitchen. all you hope for in this very moment is just one more chocolate pop tart to coat your tastebuds with its sweet chocolatey-ness. you swing open the fridge, stomping your foot with a pouty frown and glare when you find it nearly empty.
"ughhh nooo!! my life is overrrr, we're out of pop tarts! why didn't you grab some at iida's roryyyyyy?" you whine annoyingly, dropping yourself into a chair and dramatically burying your face into your hands. rory giggles, patting your head with mock sympathy as she walks by.
she shrugs off her fuzzy red coat with a soft tsk, "you're right, i have noo idea where i get it from!" she exclaims, her voice dripping with playful sarcasm.
"and by the way," she snaps her fingers, catching your attention. she lifts a silver wrapped chocolate pop tart from the counter, wiggling her eyebrows like it was obviously there (cuz it was). you gasp, your jaw dropping cartoonishly. "b-but-" you start with furrowed eyebrows only to be cut off a second later.
"since when do we keep pop tarts in the fridge?" she hums, opening the wrapper and breaking off a piece of the treat before handing you the rest.
"this is all your fault!" you huff, nibbling into the chocolate as soon as it reached your hand. "keeping them in the fridge makes them nice and coldd.. what if i didn't want to toast it? huh? what if i just wanted a cool, chilled, crazy good pop tart?"
she shrugs, utterly unbothered. "okaay, princess, i sincerely apologize,"
the rest of the evening was a blur of corny reruns from a show you and rory had stumbled upon one particularly slow night. the two of you ended up asleep on the couch, wrapped in the cocoon of a large cozy blanket. then the quiet of the night was interrupted when you awoke suddenly, your senses sharpening.
your eyes widen a little as you sniff the air, the distinct scent of something magical wafting through the room. you gasp excitedly, turning to your daughter. you shake her arm, "rory! wake up!!" you whisper-yell.
the girl whines, keeping her heavy eyes shut as she sleepily groans, "whaaaat?"
"i smell it!" you chirp, spinning your head to the window. "i smell snoww!!!"
you get up and tumble to the window, dragging the fluffy blanket along with you followed by a squeak from rory at the sudden chill. you push aside your pink curtain, peering at the night sky. "i love snow..!" you squeal. "everything's magical when it snows, like the world's wearing a big fat sparkly dress!"
"when is it coming down?" rory yawns, shuffling over to you sleepily.
"in like a half hour.. i'm so excited!!" your eyes fixed on the dark sky.
rory whines again, her face scrunched as she let out another long yawn. "i’m tiredddd, m going back to sleep. take pictures." she huffs, waddling back to her bedroom.
you pout after her, still gazing out the window, your heart filled with anticipation.
you don't like watching the first snowfall of the year alone. you always do it with someone whether its a boyfriend or rory. you huff, folding your arms and thinking of what to do. it's then you remember katsuki-- even though he goes to sleep early, he'll still watch with you, right? he’d do this one simple thing for you-- he's always doing stuff much grander for your benefit anyway.
so you grab a post-it and scribble down a quick note to rory in case she wakes up, leaving it under her door. you pull on your babyish pink swan hat and coat before hurrying out the door and making your way to your neighbor's.
you knock once, twice, and almost a third time before the door opens. bakugou stands there, looking entirely too put-together for someone who’s clearly just woken up.
“what?” he grumbles, his voice still thick with sleep.
“we’re gonna miss it!--” you exclaim, your words practically bursting with urgency.
he grunts, "if yer talkin about sleep, then yah."
"nono, cmonnn!! we gotta goo, it's gonna snow!" you hop from foot to foot with barely contained excitement.
he scoffs with a deep frown, "fuck no, its fuckin freezin."
you pout, giving him your best puppy dog eyes. "pleaseeee! for lil ol me? ill buy more coffee and- and- and you'll get soo rich!" you nod enthusiastically with a cheesy grin.
he rolls his eyes, grabbing his coat off the hook with a sigh. "no, ya don't need any more damn coffee in yer system. already give ya more than i should."
you squeal with delight, grabbing his arm and tugging him outside. “hooray! hurry, hurry!!”
he regrets this. the two of you have been standing outside for ten minutes for this stupid snow, and there's been nothing.
"the forecast didn't predict shit." katsuki huffs, his hot breath visible in the cold air.
you don't acknowledge him, too distracted by the anticipation. “i love flakes, flurries, swirls, crystals... me and snow, we have a beautiful history,” you muse, your voice full of fond nostalgia.
the blond lets out an exasperated sigh. “saw two fuckin forecasts, and neither of ‘em said anything about snow,” he growls, shivering as you still cling to his arm.
katsuki stares ahead blankly before doing a double take towards you. he scoffs with a light chuckle. "didya get yer hat from carter's?" he mocks your babyish pink swan hat, but you ignore him, tapping his arm insistently. "it's coming, i know it is.. i'm never ever wrong," your tone unwavering, he watches you gaze at the night sky, his eyes filled with a mixture disbelief and a little something else. he's shamefully endeared by your childlike wonder, even if it is annoying at times-- almost like dealing with a very persistent, stubborn child.
“it needs to come fasterrr...” you whine, blinking at the sky, willing the magical snow to appear.
“oh, geez, ya want it to come faster?” he asks, his voice dripping with sarcasm-- until you realize he wasn't planning on hearing your witty response. without another word uttered, he leans in, his lips crashing against yours. no words, no warning, just a quiet, unspoken understanding that he’s been waiting for this moment.
he's the one who pulls back just a few seconds later, his face flushed from the cold december air and his flustered nerves. you don't say anything. you simply stare at the blond with eyes that long to hear him speak, say anything. you've never seen this side of bakugou with you before, and it makes you nervous.
meanwhile he's bracing himself for impact, thinking he probably just fucked up your eight year friendship.
"say somethin please.." he mutters, his voice low. you exhale sharply before grabbing his hand. you don't know what you're about to say, your mind’s a jumble of thoughts, emotions too tangled to make sense of just yet. you’re not sure what to make of this, or if you even want to. you know katsuki, and you know how much of a burden you can be. you can't explore something that you already know won't last. especially not with him.
and then, as if the universe is offering you a sign, the first snowflake falls—delicate and perfect, followed by another, and another. the sky’s doing its part, now it’s up to you.
still holding his hand, you feel your heart beat louder in your chest. "told you snow’s magical," you whisper, your gaze locked on his. but his eyes refuse to meet yours. they dart nervously around the ground beneath him. the tension radiating from him causes his hand to feel stiff in yours. snow begins to fall more steadily, and one delicate snowflake lands on the bridge of his nose, making him flinch in surprise. you can't help the soft giggle that escapes you.
"yknow for a guy who spends every day in his diner.. you're not a bad kisser," you can't help the wide grin that displays itself on your lips at his fidgety, awkward reaction. his hand tightens around yours. "shut up asshole," he grunts, meeting your eyes finally.
"you're not just gonna.. brush past what happened are you?" you ask, trying to sound casual, but there's a note of worry in your voice, hoping he didn't just kiss you to shut you up. you study him cautiously with a tilt of your head.
you giggle again when an offended expression flashes across his face. "no!!? i thought you were gonna do that!"
you bite your lip softly, your shyness suddenly reappearing. "i think m gonna go inside.." you start, still holding his hand. "i'll see you tomorrow,"
he hums, his thumb unintentionally rubbing your soft hand. "what happened to not brushing past it?"
you grin, leaning in to kiss the corner of his mouth. he exhales slowly, his face turning red again. you smile toothily, "it's my turn to make the next move, so you'll just haveta be patient," you tease, pulling away from him to walk back in your house.
he watches you adorably wave goodbye right before you let out a girly giggle and quietly step inside. the blond can't help the tiny smile that's forced out as he lifts his head to the snow-falling sky. and then he whispers very quietly, hoping none of his nosy neighbors see him talk to himself like an idiot,
"i want a beautiful relationship with her too."

It seems wild to me that Elton John was allowed to perform in USSR?
It was wild for sure! I looked it up, it's such an interesting historical event (and I do love Elton John). Some interesting facts:
Apparently the person who invited EJ to the USSR and made it all happen was a nephew of Aleksey Kosygin (then the Premier of the USSR). Elton did want to visit the USSR and asked the embassy about it, but I'm sure that a big name would have to be involved to bypass the bureaucracy machine.
Elton gave eight concerts in total, four in Moscow and four in Leningrad. The bulk of the tickets in Moscow were distributed among nomenklatura. There was no free sale of tickets. Some tickets were privately exchanged for luxury goods like Armenian cognac or fur coats. A small fraction of tickets was available on the black market, and the price was as high as a month's salary (100-150 roubles). In Leningrad the ticket situation was a little easier (less nomenklatura in the city), but the demand was crazy. Fans flooded the city. People signed up through designated social Soviets and queued for days (and nights) in advance to have a chance at buying a ticket.
Elton brought 11 tonnes of equipment. Such quality of light and sound was unfamiliar to the Soviet people. He also brought along 30 journalists.
Here's the film about EJ's visit. And here's an audio record of one of the Moscow concerts (it was released in 2019).

You need to learn how to fall 3/10
Hangster (and IceMav) - Bradley is too tall to be a naval aviator and instead becomes a sky diver, specialising in spin recovery. He is a civilian contractor to the Airforce and Navy to teach pilots how to survive parachute spins from ejections. A more in-depth version of this post.
PROLOGUE 2003-2006
2007-2010 – The middle years
He ends up with another part-time job, fortunately using his human performance part of his degree and working as a personal trainer, mostly early mornings. Jumping out of planes is expensive. He moves out of the house him and Mav usually live in, but months later ends up moving in with Ice when he’s diagnosed with cancer. They don’t sugar coat things, not now that he’s an adult. He has to listen to them talk about wills and property and investments and assets; wants to stick his head in the sand and just chant la-la-la until it all goes away. He doesn’t want to consider his life without them both in it. Hard enough to think he’s already lost his actual parents, he can’t lose them too.
He sits through it though, signs forms he reads carefully because both Ice and Mav frown and look disappointed the first time he signed without even looking. They get similar forms for him, given his current career and he’s pretty sure Mav has to excuse himself to go and throw up when he says he doesn’t want to be kept on life support indefinitely if he has a bad fall. Ice just nods and accepts his decision with quiet equanimity and he wonders if it’s because he is facing his own mortality. He starts a YouTube channel, figures out how to take effective video and then edit it properly. Loads them up without commentary; originally it’s for those he’s taken up for tandem jumps, but then it’s for other instructors around the country, and then a couple of them move overseas. His channel has a small but dedicated following.
One of the silver linings of Ice’s cancer diagnosis is the fact he seems to no longer give any fucks about what people might say about his relationship with Mav. Don’t ask, don’t tell is still in effect but it’s also definitely very firmly in the don’t tell realm as far as Bradley can figure out. Everyone who they interact with seems to simply know that they’re together, and have been for as long as everyone remembers. Definitely for as long as he remembers. No one wants to tell and he guesses that Ice is high enough up that there’s probably blind-eyes all over the place.
Then Ice insists on Mav moving in, which he promptly leaves the house for, not wanting to hang around for listening to the argument or hearing the makeup sex that will surely follow. So they put the house on the market, then he’s given the money and told he can finally buy the plane he wants which he delays a little and carefully shops around, listening to the advice of his old instructors and also Ice and Mav. All his gifts for years are centered around either skydiving or filming and editing software. It doesn’t escape his notice that Mav’s gifts tend towards the safer indoor aspects, while Ice tends toward the safety needs. They’re both supportive in their own ways.
Living together, all of them, properly for the first time, results in the sudden influx of photos that pop up, every flat surface has frames with photos and Ice starts taking more photos. All of their lives are visually documented on the walls and bookshelves, although Bradley notes the front room Ice uses as a study and work room remains very formal and devoid of any personal touches. Other than formal portraits, like his graduation photo. Regardless of what room he’s in he feels like he is at home.
… … …
His nightmare becomes a reality, although not in full. The call he got was from Bradley, starting off with I’m alive but I’m on the way to the hospital. He’d then passed the phone over to someone else. Apparently he’d taken a bad landing after being forced to use his second backup shute. He’d been too close to the ground so had hit it hard. His hands are shaking as he walks down the hospital corridor, the only thing that has him not vomiting is the fact that Bradley is the one who called him. That Bradley was alive; maybe not alive and well, but alive enough to call him.
“Bad fall,” Mav mutters. “Like he’s tripped over the front step and grazed his hands…”
He pushes the door open to Bradley’s room. He’s pale, face covered in bandages, one arm in a cast and both legs in braces, but not as he’d imagined a broken spine and him being in something like full-traction it’s a little bit of a relief.
“He’s damned lucky.”
“Doesn’t look lucky.”
“He had his legs tucked up, hit the ground and rolled. Like it was as natural as breathing. He dislocated his shoulder but continued with the momentum… most people I know would have hit the ground feet-first despite years of training and the shock would have caused spiral fractures. They’ve braced his ankles as a matter of precaution because the x-rays showed no damage, which is a miracle but also isn’t surprising considering he walked into the hospital. We don’t usually say that you can be a natural at skydiving, but this kid is definitely a natural.”
Mav sighs.
Of course he is.
… … …
“If the cancer didn’t get me, then I’m sure jumping out of a plane isn’t going to kill me either.”
“Fighting words. It’s a good thing I’m taller than you. When we come into land you’re going to lift your legs.”
He listens as Bradley takes him through everything, despite the fact that he knows it all, having listened to it so often he’s pretty sure he could repeat it back, learning it alongside Bradley and quizzing him on it. He can follow Bradley’s instructions, he’s in the Navy. When he’s strapped to Bradley, waved the all-clear he feels a little frisson of abject terror but it’s too late, he’s falling toward to the ground and then his fear fades away and he lets out a whoop of joy, hears Bradley’s amused laughter before it’s whipped away by the rushing air. They hit the ground and it’s gentler than he thought it would be.
“Woo! What a rush!”
“Yeah? You like it?”
“It reminds me of my first launch off a carrier. Damn. Yeah. I get it now. Love you kid,” he says, knocking his own helmet against Bradley’s, the words aren’t ones he says often, but feels the need to say them more often now. Doesn’t want Bradley to ever doubt how he feels. Mav either for that matter…
“Love you too.”
… … …
“You were both up there, together.”
He should have known it would give Mav another nightmare and he curls himself around him, makes gentle shushing noises under his breath, glad now that he doesn’t have to try and do this over the phone.
“Do you trust him?”
“Of course I do!”
“Then know that skydiving, especially tandem skydiving is safer than driving to and from the hangar. Car accidents are far more common and hurt far more people than skydiving does. You’ve seen him with his gear. Hell, we check it. He’s damned good at what he does. He’s meant to be up in the air just as much as you are…”
Mav lets out a little hiccupping breath and Tom knows he’s got something that’ll definitely take his mind of everything else.
“You know, there’s something else I want to check off on my bucket list…” Tom says, and he’s not going to move, but his otherwise grand plans aren’t getting a look in right now. This feels right.
“What?”
“Pete Mitchell, will you marry me?”
… … …
Ice and Mav leave plans on the table one night. An extension to the house, with a shared internal door but his own front door; effectively making two houses. A large bedroom, another room for an office with a desk, extension to the garage so he can store his gear, enough room to roll out his chutes and carry out checks. It’s very clearly an invitation to never move out, but also to live independently and he finds the sticky notes they use to communicate when they’re too busy to actually stop and talk. Simply draws a heart and writes love it in the center.
He doesn’t bother looking at moving out of home again.

I Love as Madly as I Hate
CW: JW universe (blood, reader kills and gets stabbed), ANGST!, Reader wears a dress, verbal fighting, dead marrage, Vincent being a dick and no beta (and Grammarly gave up halfway through), One sentence in French which means “leave us alone”, implied smut
AN: I hope this is angst, I don't really read angst myself. I overthought the tense this is in so much that words don't make sense anymore. FUN FACT! The title is from Les Fleurs du Mal which I want to have made an appearance in the other Marquis fic but I thought the title was fitting.
The bounty amount is in the sweet spot. High enough that it’s worth the effort, but not too high that half the world would also be trying to bag them with you. The only problem was with who set the bounty. That would be your ex, of six months. Well technically he's still considered your husband, and you were still legally married.
That was your fault, bringing up the idea of a divorce, and waiting for him to sign. Wanting to get one last dig in while still married, you act surprised, reminding him he can’t get a second marriage, second changes are for men who failed the first time, remember? He took the papers from your hand, never for you to see again. Sometimes you think he burned them.
The hit was for a mob member - Lukas Matthews, young and new to the underworld, not sure how things worked. He stole from one of his bosses, an acquaintance of Vincent. The younger mob man was distracted by all things flashy, expensive, and pretty.
You didn’t have any trouble donning a sparkly dress, paying admittance to some dive club to stalk the man. As long as you push down the feeling that you were really just doing this to get a glimpse of Vincent, it was okay. Great even. Maybe if you were a normal person you could just call him.
You watch the target for a while, sipping on soda from the bar so you could blend in. The man was still with his friends, and you figured it would be easier to take him when he was alone, probably outside, away from the other members of his group or innocent partygoers.
—.
Lukas ultimately lost, but he fought nasty. Maybe you were still rusty. The rest of your night now consisted of trying to patch up yourself or trying to find a black market doctor to fix you, depending on how bad your shoulder gets.
You were littered with scrapes, small cuts and sore muscles, but your shoulder got the worst of the battle. Lukas managed to cut quite deep with a broken beer bottle. Once it heals it will be a reminder of all the things you do to try and convince yourself that you’re over your husband.
Pain flared every time you moved your shoulder, the wound being an inch or two below your collarbone left you trying to keep half your body still. You settle on taking Lukas’s hand, with the mob tattoo. You and Vincent know members of that mob would rather die than cut off their symbol.
With the body shoved against a trash can, you place a few garbage bags to cover the mess. The hardest part of the evening was still to come. With your good hand, you fish out your phone from your bag.
—
You assume he is attending some ballet dance or performance. You felt a bitter twist of jealousy. Was he there with someone? Has he moved on that fast? You think mind racing. When you texted the Accountants that you completed the bounty, you received a call from Chidi.
“I hear you collected the bounty. Do you have proof of death?” he questioned.
“I do. I have the hand with the tattoos, but the body’s here I can get something else” you rambled down the line, suddenly much more nervous than before.
“Please hold.”
The line was quiet, you watched people come and go from the club, secluded from the side street you were in. Backtracking into the club, hand in your bag you returned your coat check ticket. At least the jacket will cover up the bleeding, you can get the bounty and go home.
“Hello?” Chidis's voice returned.
“Yeah, I'm here.”
“Tell me your address, the Marquis de Gramont will be sending a car.”
—
The Marquis de Gramont looked amazing. He tried to always look his best in his suits, complete with an incredibly complicated knot, chains, and his signature pin. You still have your pin, hidden in a shoe box in your closet. Tonight was no exception to his looks.
His suit was reflecting the lights in his mansion. You knew from the glitter, this was a suit he would were at a cultural outing. Bitter jealousy bites at your insides. Was he there with someone? Did he move on that fast? Is it a mistress? You think. The jealousy dies when you still see his wedding ring on his left hand. Your wedding ring feels heavier on your right.
You both look at each other, his gaze lingering on your exposed legs, no doubt covered in blood. You felt exposed standing in the center of the large room.
Vincent was the one to break the silence first “Did I buy you that dress?”
“No. I’ve had it for a while”
He nods, stepping closer.
“Proof?”
You frown thinking he was asking about the dress, before remembering the severed hand.
“It's here. Tattoos and all.” you struggle to get the appendage out of your bag without moving your bad shoulder. At least you had the sense to wrap the hand in a plastic bag.
“Come to my office. We can talk in there”
You do not want to “talk in his office”. The last time, you went to “talk in his office” about a bounty it ended up with you naked on his desk, the cold chain from his suit vest and his ring pressed against you.
“I should go. You can just wire me the money or something” You reject.
You can tell you surprised him before his face shifts back to a more neutral expression.
“I have a nasty scratch so…” you trail off, hoping he leaves the issue.
His gaze almost softens. The separation was less than a year ago, you guess that he still cares for you. He still keeps tabs on you, your neighbour works for him you’re almost certain of it.
“Where?”
You gesture with your chin to your shoulder.
The pressure from his stare makes you break down and shrug off your jacket, the inside sticky with blood.
Already he is in front of you, pressing a cloth against your wound.
“You need to see the doctor, mon amour.”
You hate yourself for leaning into his touch, but at least he has good contacts for an underground doctor. It won’t be that hard to get in and out right?
—
The doctor arrived fast, not wanting to piss off the Marquis. You knew him from your early days of dating, long before your marriage, when Vincent insisted you quit. You wonder if the doctor remembers you. If he does, he doesn’t show it.
You just didn’t think Vincent was going to join you. He watches the doctor tend to your shoulder first, sewing neat rows of stitches to hold your flesh in place. You stare at your jacket on a spare chair, no doubt forever stained in blood. The good doctor already gave a warning about closing your eyes, so you keep your gaze on the jacket, your nails on your good hand leaving imprints on the chair arm from the tension between you and Vincent.
The doctor moves on to more minor wounds, mostly cleaning them, and patching them up if needed. Ignoring your soft hiss when the cleaner he is using hurts more than you expected.
Vincent is watching the doctor, scowling when you flinch in pain.
The instant the doctor pushed the tray with his tools and bloody tissues away, Vincent speaks for the first time since the three of you sat down.
“Laissez-nous seuls”
The doctor protests, wanting to give you instructions on caring for his work, making sure you don’t rip anything open.
Vincent glares at the doctor, who places down some gause for you to take home and leaves without another word, closing the door behind him.
The Marquis drops to his knees for a better look at your injury. One hand cups the back of your shoulder blade to keep you still, as he inspects you. You’re sure you smell disgusting, the smell of the bar soaked into your dress and your hair. The doctor cleaned up most of the blood, but Vincent never really cared about literally getting his hands bloody if the time was right. He would just wipe them on a cloth and toss it aside for one of his housekeepers to pick up.
You turn your whole face away, as much as your shoulder will let you, sure he can feel how hot your face is across the distance. The feel of his eyes is heavy, and almost magnetic, pulling you to look at him. His other hand is on the armrest of your chair.
“Don’t,” you said softly, trying to preserve any of the dignity that you had left.
“Don’t what, mon amour” he whispered, still looking at your shoulder.
“This.” You were mostly saying this to yourself, knowing that you only had seconds to get out of his personal space before you give in. You’re tired and hurt and he's right there, acting how he did when you first fell in love with him.
You tilt your head back almost automatically to give him more access to your throat. He moved slowly, pressing kisses against your jaw like it would be the last time, before working his way to your mouth and kissing you properly.
—
It’s like a bomb waiting to go off, not only having sex with him but also having to navigate yourself out of his bed without one of you making a gripe at the other.
Well, not technically his bed. This was yours, in a guest room you made your own while being married, now empty. You moved your stuff out during the separation. Sometimes you regret not taking the bedclothes with you, but now you’re thankful you can feel them, cool and soft against your skin.
You had no choice but to stay lying on your back, trying to keep your injury still. He was next to you in the same fashion.
“You are still wearing your ring.” He speaks quietly. As if to prove his point, he toys with your wedding band.
“I helped design it, of course, I’m going to show it off,” you reply not being able to look him in the eye.
He kissed the back of your hand.
“I believe I designed it, you just suggested the stones.”
Hand flexed to fully show off the stones, you had to agree.
The stones were suggested by you, on a date to le Musée de Minéralogie. It was just the two of you, and you had been taken with the rubies. Vincent walked alongside you, filling you in on information you might not have known. It was an off-handed comment from you, how red is a colour for both blood and love, very fitting in your line of work.
“You have good taste,” he says while you think had instead.
His hand skimmed your bare side, nimble fingers finding a small bump that was not there before your flight with Lukas.
You flinched at the dull pain, not surprised if he “accidentally” poked it.
“You should let me take care of you, mon amour.”
That was it. The same words that started and ended your marriage. Being taken care of by Vincent made you feel like a doll, sitting on a shelf, never allowed to do anything.
“Vincent,” You spoke with caution, the pain slowly seeping back into your body.
He held your chin gently, commanding your gaze to look at him. You softened looking at him.
“It is true. Do you think I like seeing you like this?” he asks.
“I don’t know what you like” you retort, steeling yourself for the argument to come.
“I like you.”
“Oh, you do? Is that why you made me quit bounty work?” you snap.
“I asked you to stop because you're not very good at it and I did not want a dead fiancé.”
Ouch.
“If you were a better fighter, you would take higher bounties.”
You don’t look at him as you leave the bed. You know he's sneering at you.
But you’re not going to shrink away even though you’re naked. You know you have to get dressed in front of him but you can put on a brave face.
“Thanks for this lovely reminder of why our marriage failed.” You spit out. You know the failed comment will piss him off.
You leave without a second look, cheap shoes squeaking against the floor.
—
You felt the lock slide open under the key, your apartment slightly cold and quiet. You still smelled like his cologne, only now the smell reminds you of the recent bitter memories. You discard your bag as you make your way to your bed in your apartment. Away from Vincent.
As you take off your dress for the second time you feel your phone buzz.
[Unknown number: Wire Transfer Sent. Deposit for Lukas is confirmed.]
Seeing him mixed with the rush of adrenaline after the fighting was too much, especially with the separation so fresh. Maybe he was right. Maybe you should go after higher bounties, especially not those set by him.

Struck By Love Gen 5: Pining and Overthinking
At work I tried to keep my head down. I went with the flow, didn’t try to short the market , and even took on some extra training to try and improve my work performance. Anything to keep from remembering that dream or running into Rosalina
But of course I would quite literally run into her.
Nav: I’m so sorry—
Rosalina: Ugh, my new outfit! You might not know this because you wear the same Kdrama coat almost everyday, but this is Joliebean! Very high poly.
And in my dreams you were wearing Sentate….focus Daw!
Nav:Sorry. I could—
Rosalina: I don’t have time to spin into something new. I got a meeting like right now. Out of my way.
She pushed past me and I felt like such a dingus. We were doing so well at the festival. Woohoock my life!
I felt tense about the whole encounter for the rest of the day, so my solution was to call my friends for a movie night once I got home.
Nav: Thanks for coming over guys, I really needed this.
Adriel: Yeah, glad to be here, but could you also quiet down? This is the best part.
As if we haven’t watched Simder before.
I left the room for a bit and managed to find an old casual outfit in my closet. Did I really wear the same outfits almost every day? When I returned, Adriel was more susceptible to listening.
Nav:You know that coworker I told you about? We bonded a bit at the Hijinks festival and now I think I have a crush on her.
Adriel:That’s great!
Nav: No, it’s not great. I made her drop her drink at work and now she’s mad at me again.
Nav: She probably hates me again. Why am I so bad with women?
Martina: For being a genius , you’re kind of clueless. Why don’t you just buy her another drink as an apology?
Of course. The solution was simple.

A rundown of all the Gouden Paarden books
So, these are my favourite horse books of all time. Written by Christine Linneweever and with cover art by George Schriemer, these all follow the point of view from the titular horse. They have sadly never been translated to any other languages than Dutch, but I'll give a rundown of all of the currently out books anyways! Most if not all will just be the translated backcover synopsis, so some might be shorter than others, and they'll be listed in order of release.
Aurea de wilde pony - Aurea the wild pony On the rugged plains in England, the mare Darinde gives birth to a beautiful foal. The filly's coat shines like gold and her mane and tail are pure white. Life for the ponies of the plain is beautiful, but hard, Aura is two years old when one day a truck drives onto the plain. Her mother is shocked and warns Aurea. She knows what the arrival of the humans means. (The pony Aurea is born in a nature reserve. When she’s two years old, she is caught. That is the beginning of an exciting journey.)
De zoektocht van Pico - Pico's Search Pico has felt unwanted from birth. His mother is a purebred New Forest pony and she should never have had a foal from that Appaloosa stallion. Who likes appaloosas, with those strange spots? Nobody, right? When Pico is sold at the horse market and ends up at the Sissende S Ranch, he cannot believe his eyes. There are all kinds of Appaloosas living here! He finally feels at home. Pico makes many new friends and learns to ride the western way. But the most important thing for Pico is that someone really loves him: the owners' daughter, Martine. Until everything goes wrong and Pico has to leave the ranch...
Maisa de dappere Arabier - Maisa the brave Arabian 'And this is perhaps our most famous Arabian thoroughbred, Maisa Bint Makloufa!' A soft 'oooh' sounds through the stable. The visitors of the tour at GS Arabians are deeply impressed by Maisa's beauty. But one night the precious mare is taken by strangers. Will Maisa manage to escape? (Maisa, a beautiful thoroughbred mare, is stolen. When she tries to flee, she gets heavily disfigured and disabled and ends up at a stable that specializes in teaching disabled children to ride.)
De ontsnapping van Rafal - Rafal's Escape Rafal is a konik and lives with his herd in a nature reserve in the middle of the Netherlands. It's a tough life for the horses now that it's winter. There is a thick layer of snow and the animals can hardly find food. In the reserve, the koniks are not fed additionally and the herd cannot leave the area to look for food. One day the horses see no other way out: they have to cross the lake that forms the border of the reserve, hoping that something edible can be found on the other side. However, to do so they have to cross a snow-covered ice field. Rafal is afraid of the ice, but he realizes he has no other choice. Will he make it to the other side? And what awaits him on the other side of the lake, where he has never been before? (The stallion Rafal is so hungry that he leaves his herd and escapes the nature reserve. He meets the girl Sam, who takes him to a stable. But does Rafal want to stay there?)
De droom van Fabio - Fabio's Dream Fabio is a Haflinger who is extremely good at dressage. With his owner Lara he wins many competitions. Now they're even allowed to start doing Z-dressage! Fabio finds it amazing and wants to put in all his effort, but he has the feeling Lara isn't as enthusiastic. She rides less and less and seems to be losing interest in him. In the mean time, she expects him to keep performing at the same high level. To minimize risk, he isn't even allowed into the meadows anymore. Fabio does what he can, but it is heavy for him and often he's stiff from muscle pain. On top of that, some of the jury at competitions find it weird that a Haflinger is competing at this high level. Fabio starts to doubt everything: Lara, himself, and his life as a dressage pony. Of course, he wants to do well and shine in the dressage arena. But he also wants to feel the wind in his manes...
De redding van Roan - Roan's Rescue Roan is a big, tough, friendly Friesian. He is perfectly happy in his stable in Friesland, with his owner Dieuwertje. Together they enjoy wonderful outdoor rides and are quite successful in dressage competitions. But when Dieuwertje comes to the stable one day crying, Roan's world collapses. Dieuwertje's mother has lost her job and they can no longer afford to keep Roan. To his great sorrow he has to be sold. His new boss is very different from Dieuwertje. Roan has to work very hard in a pair, together with Tjeerd. The two horses become great friends, but they also have a hard time and receive little food. Moreover, Tjeerd is terrified of water. Roan does what he can to help his new friend overcome his fear. It seems to work, until they participate in a big competition. Something happens there that will turn Roan's world upside down once again...
Bowi komt in opstand - Bowi Revolts Bowi is a happy Shetland pony who loves to see the world. He's incredibly happy when he gets sold to amusement park Ponyworld. Because of how smart and funny he is, he's allowed to participate in the shows. Bowi loves August, the trainer. But one day August suddenly disappears, after a fight about him spending too much money on the showponies. Bowi's life changes completely when Hugo, the owner's son, becomes the new trainer. Hugo doesn't train the ponies by rewarding them, but by punishing them, and he is too lazy to take proper care of them. The other ponies accept their fate, but Bowi revolts! But is that a smart idea? Because Hugo can decide what is going to happen to him. And sometimes ponies that have too leave Ponyworld end up at the butcher's... Or can the twins Yara and Dominique save Bowi when he pulls yet another prank?
Nola, met hart en ziel - Nola, with heart and soul Nola is terribly disappointed that she is being sold again. Twice now she has given her all for her riders, who then simply exchange her for a bigger horse. She will never do that again! She ends up with Floyd, who doesn't know exactly what he wants. Despite Nola’s reluctance, a bond slowly grows between them. When an attempt is made to steal the most expensive horse from the stable, Nola and Floyd can only prevent it by working together. To do this, they must overcome dangerous obstacles...
Het vuur van Bajka - Bajka's Fire Bajka was born in Poland on a stud farm with racehorses. She always trains with them and is often the fastest, yet she is not allowed to participate in horse racing because she is not a true thoroughbred. When her owner goes to college, Bajka is sold to a trader from the Netherlands. After a terrible journey, she soon finds a sweet new owner, Julia. But she soon learns that life here is very different from the racetrack in Poland. Here you can't gallop endlessly and Julia gets scared when Bajka wants to stretch her legs. It makes Julia and Bajka both unhappy. Can Julia find a way to channel all of Bajka's energy?
De heimwee van Faxi - Faxi's Homesickness Faxi and Noor are a golden duo. Faxi loves participating in competitions with Noor and guiding tourist tours in Iceland. Unfortunately, this suddenly comes to an end when Noor has to move to Finland. Faxi is inconsolable. Even when Noor has been gone for a while, he still thinks about her. Then he hears that the world championships will be held in the Netherlands this year. That's the country where Noor comes from! Faxi is freaking out when his owner Ingaborg chooses him to come along. He doesn't believe Baldur, who claims that all horses that leave Iceland to go abroad never return. Ingaborg would never let that happen, would she?
Vidar wil dansen - Vidar wants to dance Vidar, a fjord, works in forestry with his boss Steven, but he hates dragging trees; it's tough and always the same. He would love to dance like a dressage pony! According to his mother, he is absolutely not suitable for dressage. Vidar has to give up his dream and accept his fate as a workhorse. Until boss Steven has an accident and breaks his leg. Steven's granddaughter Fay has to take care of Vidar for so long, even though she thinks he is a clumsy and fat animal and she has absolutely no desire to do so. Gradually, Fay and Vidar get to know each other better... When Steven has recovered, Vidar has to return to the forest, but can he and Fay still live without each other?
De liefde van Luna - Luna's Love The three-year-old mare Luna has had little luck in life. She was bought by a trader who wanted to make her saddle broken as quickly as possible so that he could resell her. His stablehand Rico does this with so much violence that poor Luna becomes terrified of riding. One day Sterre comes to visit her and it is love at first sight! Sterre sees how poorly Luna is treated and decides to buy her. But she soon finds out that Luna is a nervous pony and as soon as she wants to ride her, things go wrong...
Izar de Spaanse beauty - Izar the Spanish Beauty Izar was bred by the famous Spanish horse breeder Dona Alvarez. Despite his excess energy, Dona has enormous confidence in him. His future has a silver lining. Until everything goes wrong and Izar experiences something terrible, which almost causes his death. He is rescued in the nick of time, but there is nothing left of his energy. And that means that he is the ideal horse for Marit, who became afraid after a fall. But what if Marit manages to give him his energy back? Will she still be brave enough to ride him then?
De overwinning van Erin - Erin's Victory Erin is a police horse: as gentle as anything and afraid of nothing. That is, until she is bitten by an aggressive dog. She is left with a significant wound, which is healing nicely. But the wound in her heart is less easy to heal. No matter what Jeanine, her rider, tries, Erin maintains a deep-seated fear of dogs. This means that, to her great sadness, Erin is no longer allowed to remain in the police force. She ends up with Lieke, who she immediately has a connection with. Lieke, just like Erin, would love to go on outdoor rides. She decides to help Erin with her fear, but how can one girl succeed where all the police specialists have failed?
Een veulen voor Rose - A foal for Rose Rose is a surrogate mother at a breeding farm for Arabian thoroughbreds. She has already given birth to four foals that she knows are not her own. She's had more than enough. Most of all, she wants a foal of her own. And someone who cares for her and loves her for who she is. Out of sadness and loneliness, Rose starts eating more and more. When the extra kilos cause her to fail to get pregnant again, Rose is fine with that, but the owner of the Arabian breeding farm is not. Rose is transferred to a covered wagon company to lose weight. She has to work terribly hard for the mean owner and is barely cared for. Will she ever get out of here? And does she have to go back to the breeding farm? In the meantime, she continues to long for a nice life and her own foal...
Ferron, een echte vriend - Ferron, a true friend Ferron and Bravo are best friends. They live and work at a beer brewery in Zeeland, where they run in a beautiful six-horse team together with four other draft horses. They are well cared for by Joris. But everything changes when Bravo becomes very ill and then suddenly disappears, and Joris is fired. Ferron does not get along at all with the new horse caretaker Lars. And he shows it too! When the brewery owner decides to continue with four horses instead of six, Ferron is sold to a horse trader. Where will he end up now? And will he ever see his best friend Bravo again?

Literary London: the Modern Life of a Socialite pt. 2
A non-fiction piece.
Reading Mrs. Dalloway was very relevant for my travels here in London, a city full of luxurious temptations that would treat my wallet quite poorly. Mrs. Dalloway is a book about a woman, born into a plain middleclass upbringing, who marries into a high social class, and loves the lifestyle. The whole book follows a day in her life, as she is throwing Her party, where everyone will have no choice but to see how Born-to-Be-a-Wonderful-Host she is.
In Korean there is a slang that would be used to call this set of symptoms: 된장녀 (doen-jang-nyeo), a pejorative neologism for a girl who desires, buys, and flaunts luxury items, without the means to pay for it herself (hence the connection with "gold diggers"). The wikipedia definition goes further to say, she will often pinch pennies on basics in order to afford "conspicuous luxuries." I might just be a 된장녀, which is concerning! I have to remind myself that I am living in London for a month, and cannot spend like I'm on vacation for a week every week, or else I'll have to find work first thing when I return to campus!
To explain my first point about Mrs. Dalloway relevance to today, I argue that if born in my generation, Mrs. Dalloway would've been an influencer to a whole market of TikTok viewers: "how to attract provider men," "how to manifest your dream life," "how to build an elegant Instagram feed," "how to look expensive (cheap and affordable!)." More relevant to me, Mrs. Dalloway represents a desire for seeing and having nice things, and mingling with important people, which is viewed by other characters in the book as snobbish and out of touch with the reality of the general population.
Being in Soho, Covent Garden, Piccadilly, and many markets, and seeing marble statues, gold stitching on historical fabrics, the glittering diamonds of the crown jewels, the neurons in this same greedy part of my brain fires so much more often. This journal entry will be dedicated to all of the luxuries, London specific, that have tempted me successfully. This is a slightly shameful haul.
1. Coffee

I am addicted, and I have one a day, either at home or at a cafe or both. The alternative milk here is at no additional cost, which makes everything come out to about 3.8 pounds on average for a flat white! This is a steal, in comparison to American coffee spots! Or so I tell myself.
2. Nice Dinners

Namaaste Kitchen ⭐⭐⭐ (2.5/5)
Dishoom ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (5/5)
Ukiyo Handroll Bar ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (5/5)
Blacklock ⭐⭐⭐⭐(4/5)
Kanishka ⭐⭐⭐⭐(4.5/5)
3. Fancy Dresses
OddMuse: These are beautiful dresses, more expensive than any dress I own, but made out of cheap synthetic fabric. They have a beautiful chic storefront in Covent Garden, and I'm still on the fence about whether I will return these!!
4. 100% Wool

So the wool coat was a purchase I made for my own Christmas gift, on 40% off at Aritizia before I left for London. Was the three piece suit necessary? It might have to be the suit I wear to my own wedding at this point.
5. Afternoon Tea, English Breakfast

Clotted cream is delicious. Scones are in fact dry, but with cream and jam are delicious. Finger sandwiches are delicious. Blood sausages are okay. Those scrambled eggs are delicious. Flat whites are delicious.
6. Performances

From Left to Right: The Kit Kat Cabaret, Giselle, Les Misérables
I was checked hard when I watched Les Misérables and was reminded of the power of money to blind those who are wealthy to the pains of the rest of the world. And even without watching Les Mis, at the end of the day, my reality check comes in the form of a hefty credit bill and no presents for most of the people I care about, and no financial plan saved for some of the more important projects I have coming up soon. So with this, my Mrs. Dalloway lifestyle will have to come to an end.
