I Won’t Say I’m in Love --  April JilyChallenge Hercules AU
Prompt:  "yes, i'm a damsel, i'm in distress...but thank you, i can handle this monster's temper tantrum. now go on, have a nice day" hercules au
@tadasgay @jilychallenge
She could not wipe the dopey smile off her face since he had handed her a flower and kissed her cheek.
Wonder Boy. At first, the nickname had been a joke—a way to take the mickey out of him for being so posh and so apparently good at everything. But then, after spending more time with him, she realized that in addition to being naturally good at seemingly everything he set out to do—Quidditch, dancing, Exploding Snap—he was also sweet.
Lily did not believe in sweet anymore. Not in love or romance, flowers or kisses. She used to believe in those things, but they had let her down and made her more embittered than she cared to admit. She had been such a fool to trust a guy like Severus. After cutting ties with him, Lily had made a promise to herself that she would never have such rotten judgment again.
“You think a girl would learn,” she mumbled to herself with a sigh.
James Potter—Wonder Boy—wasn’t like Severus, though. She knew he wasn’t, and that thought was what scared her. She was certainly no damsel, but she had been distressed for years. She didn’t know if she could handle being happy after being miserable for so long. Could she even shake off her pain after bearing its weight for so many years? She was not looking to cry her heart out. Not again.
And how could she possibly survive, if James betrayed her the way Severus had? She would never recover. James was not the type of boy you got over. Her best way forward was to keep her distance. She had already learned this lesson.
Lily stroked the flower’s petals. He had grinned so sheepishly as he had handed it to her, his ears growing pink as he apologized for how incredibly cliché it was to give flowers to a girl named after a flower.
And it was a horrendous cliché after a series of obnoxiously saccharine moments between the two of them over the evening of their first date. James was so earnest, so endearing, that Lily could not help but warm to him. Despite all of her misgivings and better judgment, she herself was turning into a cliché.
Oh, but how soft his lips had felt against her cheek. She lifted the flower to her nose and inhaled deeply.
“Lily-flower,” came a voice, startling her. “What have you got there?”
Lily rose to her feet and immediately hid the flower behind her back. “Nothing. Just a weed.”
Voldemort’s sharp teeth broke into a smile. “So what’s the word, Lil? It must have been a good date for it to last so long into the night. You always were quite the charmer, at least, in the beginning.”
Lily clenched her teeth.
“So, tell me. What’s Wonder Boy’s weak link?”
“Find yourself another girl,” Lily protested. “I’m through. I won’t be your spy anymore.”
Voldemort’s grin merely widened. “Want to try that again? I don’t think I heard you.”
“I’m done working for you. I won’t do it anymore. It’s not worth the costs. We’re through.”
Voldemort crept closer to her. “Oh, Lily, you sweet girl. I think you’re forgetting…” He paused, and all the pretend cheerfulness left his voice. “I own you.” He pulled out his wand.
“Imperio.”
