Summary: Hunter and Y/N go through another miscarriage.

"So...what's going on?" Eda leaned on the island counter on her elbows, looking at Hunter.

"Pffft, What? Nothing happens" Hunter smiled fakely.

"Kid, I raised many children, I raised Y/N, King, I took care of Luz and you. Do you think I can't tell when someone lies to me? Plus...it shows in your eyes..." Eda grimaced a little and looked at Hunter waiting for a response. The grimwalker just looked at the table, sighed, took a quick look at the kitchen entrance, as Luz and the children were laughing in the living room, then he looked back at the counter and murmured in a low voice.

"It happened again." They were silent for a moment, Eda didn't understand what Hunter meant.

"The reason Y/N called you was because she was in the hospital" Hunter looked up and looked Eda in the eyes, then the truth hit her.

"Another miscarriage right?" Hunter nodded.

“Where is Y/N? Is she still in the hospital?" Eda asked worried.

"She said she wanted time alone. She...was blaming herself again." Hunter sighed heavily. "She even blamed herself for leaving before you answered the call."

"Ah...shit..." Eda looked down and then looked up at Hunter, who was looking at the counter with his fingers tangled in his hair. The old lady looked worried at the man and walked up to his side.

"Hunter, what's wrong?" Hunter shook his head and sighed, shakily.

"Nothing...nothing" The blonde ran his hands over his face and rested his fists against his mouth, biting them.

"Kiddo…" Hunter shook his head again, this time with tears in his eyes and pursing his lips.

"It's okay...tell me what's wrong..." Eda rubbed the boy's back.

"I...can't...i dunno...i dunno"

"Hunter, you should talk to Y/N about it, you know she would listen to you, if you te..."

"No, no, i can't...i can't tell her..." Hunter interrupted Eda, while covering his face. "I always thought about being a father, I never imagined going this far...two children, and the idea of ​​having more, I like it, but... I don't want to continue going through this. Seeing her like this, it hurts me, it hurts me every time it happens, I don't know if I can continue and now... Another one..." Hunter shook his head, crying.

"Titan, we can't continue like this, but I don't know how to avoid it either, because...if another one comes, It could survive, but It also don't... And i don't know what to do Eda, I don't know." Oh look, it’s the echo mouse Musse.

…you know, I don’t think I ever explained why I call him that. It’s because the swedish name for Mickey Mouse is Musse Pigg. That’s it. But hey, he gets to have one last appearance, pulling a Cinderella alongside Bat-Queen’s kids. I mean, that has got to be a deliberate reference to the Disney animated Cinderella, right?

Steve’s here too, of course, and he’s cutting into a cake. As someone who likes to bake but isn’t that good at it, I like to say that I’m not very good at making things that look good, but I can make things that taste good.

This is the exact opposite of that.

And with King growing older and stronger, he’s beginning to generate his own magic and his own glyphs! Hmm… it looks like his glyphs have a different design, but i assume they’d be the same four elements.

(also, while rewinding the scene, I noticed Eda’s wearing Raine’s earring. cute)

The crew, who know and love me, gives me just a few more pretty lights to look at with big wide eyes, drawn to them like a moth. The Collector’s in the neighborhood and decided to put on a big ol lightshow.

On this last good bye, they threw in a few more characters, just for funsies. We’ve got Salty the boat captain, Willow’s parents, a couple of faeries, Gus’ dad, Tibbles, and that little kid from Separate Tides.

So… this is the end, huh?

What do I even say? What do I even say? What can i say about this show?

This liveblog exists because of The Owl House. At the time, I was in a creative rut and trying to find some way out of it. I figured maybe getting into a new series might help. I was also a fan of several liveblogs, and so I thought, why not try it? I figured it might get me back to writing.

My journey, as my loyal readers know, has not been always been a smooth sailing. It’s taken me a long time to get here; I finished this episode over a year after it came out for crying out loud. There have been times when I’ve been beat down and unable to create. But never did I lose my love for this show, to contrary, it only ever grew greater.

So yeah, good show, 6/10.

I’M JOKING! I’M JOKING, THAT WAS A JOKE! P-please put that down, it was only a joke!

Jeez luise, you people… ahem.

No, I love this show. That much should be clear, no matter how much snark I inject or how many sarcastic quips I sprinkle into my text, the time spent with this show has been genuinely good. And I joke about things, how we never got Bat-Queen’s backstory for example. But, well… there’s a good reason for that. This show deserved so much better, and the amazing crew deserved so much better. Still, they delivered a fantastic story, and I will undoubtedly return to this again and again.

So what comes next?

As I’ve already mentioned, I am going to watch and liveblog, or at least make some post about The Owl House pilot episode which was leaked a while back. i don’t know what the timeframe is on that, but hopefully not too long.

I’m also gonna keep working on that Vee fic. Speaking of which, I linked it earlier, but just in case you missed it, the first chapter (and a prelude) is up on AO3 right now. I’ll continue to post updates on here, so stay tuned for that as well. I don’t know how long it will take for that to get done, but I’m really excited to work on it, more excited than I’ve been for any creative work in a long time. I’m beginning to feel like maybe I’m not a complete and utter failure and a talentless hack.

Will I continue posting incorrect quotes? Maybe. I’ll continue as long as I get new ideas and I’ll stop when I run out.

But the real question is, what is the next liveblog? Well, I’ve said that already as well, but for those who weren’t paying attention…

The next liveblog will be Amphibia! I’ve bene looking forward to that one for some time now.

My aim right now is to get started with Amphibia in July. Why July? Because that’s when I go on my vacation.

I should probably also do some tidying up on this blog, do some upgrades. I also wanna clean out my askbox, cause, uh… I’ve got a couple of unanswered asks… some of which have been sitting there for a long time now… I should really get around to that.

oh! it's what we are is the sum of a thousand lies, my most popular toh fic by FAR and the thing most toh people here started following me for. back before i got sucked down the princess luz hyperfixation rabbit hole. it's a fic that takes more work to write than any of my others because it has an incredibly involved drafting & editing process. bc i am a perfectionist.

the premise is a canon divergent timeline wherein belos suspects that hunter lied to him at the end of hunting palismen. and completely wrecks hunter's shit forever. and infects him with curse goop in the process. and darius (who, Very Importantly, does not yet have a friendly rapport with hunter) trips over the kid's half-dead body.

and freaks.

and kidnaps hunter n takes him to the owl house. bc that's the one surefire place of refuge on the isles.

there are a bunch of emotional threads, hence why it's novel-length and not even finished yet despite being about just four characters chilling in a house together.

mainly it's about:

hunter unraveling his cognitive dissonance and cult brainwashing in an AU where he doesn't have all of hollow mind's answers; his feelings are Incredibly complicated and messy & he gets incredibly mean and snarly about it

darius grappling with the fact that his own grief and resentment blinded him to a kid who Very Much Needed Him, darius dealing with the fact that actually he never DID grieve his mentor or his mentor's dead family

darius and hunter developing a rapport in a timeline where hunter very much has Not broken out of all the cop shit that darius disdains So Much. so darius is so fucking exasperated and tired all the time

eda trying desperately to help hunter learn to live with a curse / chronic pain / chronic illness, while having very little faith in herself to begin with

luz feeling Horrifically guilty about hunter's curse and injuries, bc she thinks she should have clocked the abuse and brought him home with her or otherwise stopped it

hunter developing an almost immediate and pathological emotional attachment to luz because of her kindness, which complicates all of his complicated feelings WAAAAAY MORE

eda, darius, AND luz all desperately trying to get hunter to admit that he's been abused and that what happened wasn't his fault. you would not believe how fucking long it takes.

i'm actually really, really, Really proud of it -- it's rare for one of a writer's best works to be their most popular, but this genuinely is one of mine. if not my best work, period. there's a lot of nuance and messiness and emotional complexity and grief and arguing that i'm SO happy with.

also, despite the subject matter, it's often extremely lighthearted. some of the funniest dialogue i've ever written is strewn throughout all these serious emotional threads.

i'd apologize for how long this response is but this story is a heart project and has 67,000 published words on ao3 so far. (the chapter i'm writing rn will likely be another ~8,000 words, then there are a couple more chapters to come.) so there's a lot to say!!

it's my most popular ao3 fic for any fandom, ever, in the 12 years i've been on the site. the response has been WILD. if you sort by kudos, it's the 31st most favorited owl house fic Of All Time, the 7th most popular fic involving darius, and the 5TH most popular hunter & luz relationship fic. again, of all time. which is. insane.

people have been very kind and patient with me having been too sick to work on it for a while. there was a seven-month break between chapters 8 and 9, and if i finish chapter ten soon then there'll have been a nine-month break between chapters 9 and 10. so i don't know how many people are actually going to come back to read it, a lot of ppl have moved on from the fandom and such. but i'm extremely extremely extremely grateful to everyone who's given it a look!

Lumity Episode Master List

Well, this is it gang. It's over. The Owl House is finished. Part of me will always be bitter about Disney gutting season three.

BUT at the same time, part of me is glad that The Owl House is over. Because that means lumity is canon forever and nobody can change that. What's that Disney? You don't like the gay? Well too bad. The only way you can change it is to make more episodes which I know you're not gonna do.

Nana-nana, boo-boo. Stick your head in doo-doo.

It's been a fantastic journey and if you ever wanna go through it again, there's always Disney Plus. But if just want your lumity fix without going through every single episode, then here you go.

I did it for starco and now I'm doing it for lumity. Here's every single episode the led up to lumity.

Spoilers for a show that we painfully know has ended.

"I Was a Teenage Abomination"

The revolution was a lie. Do you remember? When we were young and you wanted to set the world on fire? Sorry that's a reference to a song I like.

You can't do a list about a ship without actually starting the ship. The episode where Luz and Amity first meet and thank jeebus they did. Personally, I thought the first episode was okay and I didn't like the second one. But this episode was amazing. 10/10.

Luz feels like she isn't learning as much as she could from Eda so she sneaks into a witch school. With witch kids. We meet Willow and then we meet Amity, who I honestly thought was going to be some kind of Draco Malfoy bully type character. And she's kinda sorta like that in this episode. Little did we know the love that was gonna blossom here.

"Covention"

I get it. It's like coven and convention. OH now I get it. Well, we can't have them be enemies to lovers without them being enemies first. Willow and Gus invite Luz, Eda and King to the local covention where Amity just happens to be checking out the Emperor's Coven panel.

Yeah, she's still upset over the whole 'pretending to be an abomination thing.' We get some classic Malfoy-esque bullying from Amity that pushes Luz to challenge her. Since the Clawthorne sisters refuse to have one up over the other, they both cheat, embarrassing Amity.

The scene where Luz apologizes to Amity was the first hint that Amity would go beyond a Malfoy-bully character. Even though Amity was still upset, she broke the pact and Luz held no ill will towards her.

"Lost in Language"

I'm lost in language and I don't know what I'm thinking about. I'm back on my feet. Eager to be what you want me. Sorry. That's another song.

We get the first seed of the actual lumity ship and my first "I ship them" episode. Luz goes to the local library and the show shock everyone by showing Amity...reading to kids in the kids corner. You guys gotta remember that at the time this blew everyone's minds. The bully character reading to kids in the library? And they love her? Everyone's view of Amity changed, especially Luz's. Then we met Edric and Emira, who unlike Amity, are super cool and nice. All of which plays to the theme of the episode.

We (and Luz) discover that Amity is a lot more than she seems. She's not the bully character. Same with Edric and Emira. They're not the cool ones; they're the bullies. And that's the same way Amity feels about Luz. But with a little teamwork and a horrifying children's character come to life, Amity agrees to try to be a friendlier witch.

"Adventures in the Elements"

We wouldn't see Amity again for another several episodes. Thank goodness for that other country airing the episode early, am I right, people? Anyway.

Luz finally goes out with Eda for some serious witch training after Amity (oh cramity) warns her about the baby class. We get Amity making an actual effort to be nice to Luz, which almost completely goes to hell when Luz takes Amity's training wand. But then she does the "You'll only get hurt bit," and we see more of those little glimpses.

It's safe to say that after this episode Luz and Amity actually did become friends. No ill will on either side.

"Understanding Willow"

Luz and Amity became friends in the previous episode. Just Luz and Amity. Willow and Gus were a different story. Especially Willow. This is that story. It's the full story.

It's revealed that Willow and Amity used to be friends until Amity's parents forced Amity to push Willow away, something Willow still resents her for.

In the lumity side of things, Luz starts wiggling her way into Amity's heart with her upbeat, positive attitude. It's infectious. We even get a lumity hug, even if it was one sided.

"Enchanting Grom Fright"

Come on. Come on. Do I even have to at this point? The episode that blew this ship into the stratosphere.

It's Grom season and everyone's getting a date. Except for Amity who is unfortunately named the grom queen which means she has to fight a horrifying shapeshifting monster. Horray for The Boiling Isles being a safe and sensible place to live. Luz, being Luz, takes Amity's place so she doesn't have her worst fear come to life in front of everyone. But Luz is unable to face her greatest fear, and it takes the power of Wan to put Grom back in his place.

I love this episode. I love talking about this episode. I love how Amity is staring at her note because she's contemplating putting it in Luz's locker. I love how she says "Watch it, nitwit," before she realizes who she's talking to. I love how Luz and Amity randomly meet at the woods. Is it sloppy writing? Fuck you. I love when Amity grabs her dress when Grom tears her note. That's such a kid thing to do.

This is already way too long. I should move on.

"Wing It Like Witches"

The final part of the original lumity trilogy. We get the stupid fakey made up magical sport. Fuck you, Harry Potter. And we also get Boscha being a royal B. Someone tell her to see you next Tuesday. Am I right, people?

Luz, being Luz, wants to stand up to Boscha for Willow but, being Luz, makes things so much worse. Amity pops in and out of the episode to try to help but the gay panic is too much for her. Amity admits, out loud, that she loves how Luz seems to always get herself in over her head when she's trying to help someone. But they lose anyway. Fuck you, Harry Potter.

Enchanting Grom Fright was huge. But this episode was a bunch of fun. Fuck you, Harry Potter.

"Escaping Expulsion"

After breaking Amity's leg because we didn't want her anywhere near the season one finale, she finally makes her grand return. We also meet her parents and Odalia is one of the biggest Karen's I've ever seen. Luz gets expelled which is bad but she's more concerned over Willow and Gus. She tries to cut a deal with thicc mama Blight, but gets roped into product demonstration. Odalia tries to kill a child and fails when Amity appears from the rafters like Sting and announces to the world, "Stay away from my Luz."

It was awesome. We get a return blush and Luz officially starts crushing on Amity back. Reminds me of another post I did long ago telling everyone to be freaking patient. This episode also marks Amity being a part of the Hexsquad, but not one hundred percent into the friend group just yet.

"Through the Looking Glass Ruins"

I'm looking at you through the glass. Don't know how much time has past...I forgot the rest of the song.

It's funny because I guess the lumity stuff was actually the B-plot to this episode. This episode was very important for a lot of reasons. It introduced Phillip's diary, the galderstones, Matt and Gus kinda became friends. But we're not here to talk about that.

Luz discovers the there was a human in The Boiling Isles who donated a journal to the Bonesboro library. And since Amity works at the library, you know the whole two stones thing. And we see Luz crushing hard on Amity for the first time.

Unfortunately, Luz does get Amity in trouble again for like the fourth(?) time or something. That puts a real dent in things. But Luz comes through for Amity (offscreen) and gets her her job back. Amity makes the first move right at the end of the episode marking the beginning of the purple Amity era.

"Knock, Knock, Knockin' on Hooty's Door"

Hey, hey, hey! Please tell me I'm not the only one that got that reference. Don't make me feel old.

This is it. The most important episode since Grom. Dana and the crew knew that the series had been cut short so they had to speed things up. So they turned to...Hooty? Yeah. Okay. Sure. Whatever.

Luz is torn between finding a way back to the human realm and trying to ask out Amity. And you know that old saying about chasing two rabbits? Yeah. Hooty's solution? Kidnap Amity and force the two into the tunnel of love. Amity is actually totally digging the tunnel of love but Luz is afraid that Amity is going to make fun of her. Both ideas backfire and Amity starts to the think that she's been rejected already.

But that's to Hooty losing his mind, and a little advice from Eda, Luz asks out Amity. And she says YES! Lumity canon! In episode 8 of season 2! That's how you do it, Star vs the Forces of Evil! You give the people what they want. And now that Amity is Luz's girlfriend, she can help get more info out of the echo mouse.

And the love stuff too.

"Eclipse Lake"

Oh right. Amity. The girlfriend of Luz. The girl who is in a romantic relationship with Luz. Luz's girlfriend. That's Amity.

We have the first episode of Luz and Amity being a couple and hoo-boy, did Amity make sure to let us know. Nervous about having her first serious girlfriend, Amity wants to prove to Luz and herself that she is an awesome girlfriend. By going into the titan's veins to steal some of its blood.

As one does.

Hunter tries to prey on Amity's (and his own) insecurities about having to prove your worth. But it takes King and some well placed emoji messages to remind Amity why she fell in love with Luz in the first place. That Luz is so different from her family and her social circle. She doesn't have to prove anything to Luz. Luz wears her affection on her sleeve.

"Follies at the Coven Day Parade"

Night of the living dead is on its way. I keep making a lot of song references here.

This is the episode were the couple hits their first snag as a couple. Luz has a serious problem communicating when something is wrong (more on that later). After the traumatizing events of the previous episode, Luz can't bring herself to tell Amity that she promised her mom that she'd leave forever, especially since Amity is doing so much to get closer to Luz like learning Spanish. But Amity ain't no dummy. She can tell when Luz is hiding something. It's made even worse when Amity gets a hold of Luz's phone, which anyone who has been in a relationship could tell you, is a trap.

Luckily, trust and compassion win out in the end. Luz tells Amity exactly what happened, and they communicate. But if Luz was honest with Amity in the first place, we'd only have half an episode.

"Any Sport in a Storm"

Again, Lumity takes the B-plot.

While huntlow is becoming a thing, Luz and Amity try to search for the author of the Azura book series. On the way they parody fan theories in the nicest way I've ever seen in a show. And the big twist of the author of Azura turns out to be that there is no twist. It really is just a fantasy book series that Luz really likes that sometimes washes up in The Boiling Isles.

This episode is important because it serves to remind people what Luz and Amity have in common. Pointing out the fact that the two girls are different is fun, but sometimes you just have to go back to basics and remember that Luz and Amity just really like each other, get along, and are both nerds who like the same book series. And that whole opposites attract thing is bullshit. The key is compliments, not opposties.

"Reaching Out"

Hoo-boy. This one is heavy.

It's a special day for Luz, which is not a good thing. She wants to do anything but be alone with her thoughts. Good thing Amity shows up with a problem that could distract them all day.

Amity thinks that signing up for the Bonesboro Brawl could bring her closer to her dad (since her mom is obviously a lost cause) and ditches coven tryouts to compete for the championship title. Luz tries to help, but when Amity has the competition in the bag, Luz tries to help even more to keep herself busy.

But, as usual, Luz gets Amity in trouble and it really hurts this time. Not only did Luz get Amity in trouble (again), but she won't talk to her (again). When Amity has had enough, Luz does what she only does as a last resort and actually communicates.

That's when everything changes. It's the anniversary of Luz's dad's death. And usually Luz and Camila spend the day together. You know, to make it hurt less. But this year, she can't be with her.

This episode is important because after seeing Amity at a low point an unfair amount of times, this time Amity is seeing Luz at her lowest point. Amity makes this one face that, to me, says that Amity is shocked (to say the least) that her girlfriend was in pain this whole time. But she was so wrapped up in her own problems that she didn't notice. Or at least, that's my interpretation.

Luz and Amity make up and pick flowers together. It wasn't pretty or that romantic. It hurt and was kinda sad. But if you want to paint a pretty picture, sometimes you're gonna use some dark colors. And they're stronger for it.

"Clouds on the Horizon"

Oh yeah, baby. You know what this episode is.

When all hope seemed lost, it turns out not everyone believed Bellos' promises of paradise on the Day of Unity. While the adults are trying to stop the draining spell, Luz is sent on a slightly less dangerous mission of rescuing Amity from her mom's house arrest. Thicc Mama Blight even broke Amity's tamagachi thing. That bitch. See her next Tuesday.

But hope comes in the form of a Noceda as Luz enters through her bedroom window, Romeo & Juliet style. She promises Amity a slice-of-life future and Amity can't hold back anymore and

Season 3: "Thanks to Them" "For the Future" "Watching and Dreaming"

Okay yeah, this is a bit of a cop out, but also, not really. Since Disney decided to be, well Disney, season three was cut short. Just enough to finish the story, but not enough to get lumity centric episodes. Everything was mashed together into 3 forty minute episodes.

Yes, we do have a lot of important lumity moments, but they're generally spread around all three episodes. None of them are more important than the other.

"Thanks to Them" had Luz coming out to her mom and introducing Amity. "For the Future" had Amity comforting Luz about her palisman. "Watching and Dreaming" had more kisses.

Unfortunately, I have to end the list by just saying watch all of them or none of them. Not very specific for a post that's supposed to be a specific list. Sorry, gang.

This is more of a first draft for a serious meta post i am planning to write, but since it would take me a few weeks (and the proper post will have screenshots, etc) i just wanted to address the popular fanon that Hunter had to prove himself for Darius to start to care about him/that Darius' care was conditional and he was just same as Belos.

And i feel like that notion just completely ignores the scene just after Darius collects the Emerald Entrails to his Blimp. And, yes, i will never shut up about that scene because that's my favourite Darius scene and - completely regardless of Darius and Hunter's relationship - showed that Darius had his own morals independent of the Coven expansionism and propaganda, and in this way that scene was clearly very intentional. There was no point for Darius to lie to manipulate Hunter, as some people had thought, since that wasn't what Hunter would want to hear/be asked about, so we can assume Darius was sincere.

And... Darius looked stern and strict and disappointed, not mean-spirited, not gloating about being proven right about Hunter - and if the fanon verison of Darius and Hunter's relationship was correct then in this, very intentional scene there was the perfect opportunity for that kind of reaction. And it was the first time we saw Darius as completely serious, without playing, and serious and stern in a very quite way. Same with the scene when they talk on the crow phone where Darius is complaining but, again, is not meanspirited or agressive, but since that scene is more comedic it might not have been that intentional. Back to the Blimp scene - as other people had said, if Darius truly didn't care or hated Hunter there would be no point for him to look disappointed.

And i don't mean he would care about Hunter in a very personal manner at this point, but as i see it he probably realized he had fucked up after the crow call (my headcanon-y interpretation of Darius' way of thinking in ASIAS here) and at the Blimp scene he saw that even if Hunter was a spoiled prince the kid clearly had problems. And thus Darius even nudged him in the direction of thinking for himself by just asking back whether this was something Hunter should be proud off. Yes, it might not be super gentle, but it is a far cry from what fandom usually sees in Darius' reactions. So with all this in mind, it seems like even if Hunter didn't change his mind, Darius still would have some notion of care to be disappointed and sad over this, and, imo, it would have set him towards more compassion or at least understanding towards Hunter even if Hunter didn't help his friends.

(and btw, nothing points towards Darius seeing Hunter as anything but the spoiled royality since there is a huge difference between a child soldier and a relative of the emperor assuming an important position at a young-ish age; and the Coven Heads are not even some inner court to be privy to the Emperor's life since he wouldn't allow witches to be this close. And even in their first scene while Darius was mean initially - especially with the cloak - it wasn't anything that s1 Eda wouldn't say, and we didn't even get to see how the cloak scene would've ended if Darius wasn't set off by his mentor's sigil).

And the thing is, sure there might be unfortunate implications with the way ASIAS ends, just as there are unfortunate implications with how 8 years old King was the one reaching out towards Eda with 'no more lies' while she barely had to apologize. And in the same way as King's development and choices are prioritized because the target audience is meant to relate to him and understand him more, i think the same happens with ASIAS. Yes, it is important to show that the adults shouldn't mistreat Hunter, but for a 10 years old watching it it is also important to show that, no matter how sympathetic the backstory, a 16 years old shouldn't push you to do something you don't want. So Hunter makes mistakes, learns from them and then gets rewarded by a nearest adult figure. It is a standart cartoon structure, and sure, it also shouldn't be free of criticism, but just not via demonizing and bad faith interpretations of Darius and only Darius.

And even in that scene, i feel like it is notable that Darius says 'make your predecessorS proud'. If Darius' care about Hunter was truly just conditional or if there was no intention to that scene, it would've been easy to say 'predecessor' or 'the previous golden guard' since that's who Darius cared about and in the beginning unfairly compared Hunter to, that's what the audience remembers, but Darius doesn't seem to have any connection to other golden guards, it is Hunter who cares about them and their legacy, so this, if intentional, also points towards Darius already realizing his mistakes and trying to just genuinely encourage Hunter.

And i feel like you need to look at the episode and Darius' character as a whole rather than focusing on only 2 scenes to decide whether there was the intention to paint him the way fanon sees him or not. And even if it is how the show intended us to see Darius - then maybe the fandom should examine this writing choice in the context of how the show prioritizes white and light skinned characters and their development, and how the show treats black characters, and why Darius is the one who wouldn't get a proper resolution or a way to verbalise his thoughts and opinions while Alador or Gwen or even Steve are allowed to do it.

Luz has been here before.

When she stood between two different worlds, between two different families who needed her, and watched one of them disappear behind a door she didn’t know how to open. When she bridged the divide between dimensions as an echo to reach out to her mom, only to watch her mom's tears mix with the rain as she shrank into a memory and Luz was pulled away. When she watched her mentor’s eyes fill with darkness, the shadows sealing Eda so deep within herself that Luz didn’t know how to call her back. When she sat in a white-walled room facing a separation beyond portals or curses, seeing her dad right beside her and knowing, at the same time, that he would never be with her again.

Luz has been here before, again and again and again, and she never manages to find the right goodbye.

All she can do is admit that to Eda and King before she can no longer see them through her tears, before they splinter into light and she is obscured by shadow, unable to conceive of anything but the embrace of a dark ocean and a single thought.

I know what I should have said. I should have thanked them.

The lost words, the goodbye that she has never, ever been quick enough to get out, lodge and swell in her throat before finding their release in a single sob. She watches the tears mix with the water that holds her and relaxes into its embrace.

Then, all at once, there is a hand around her wrist, and she is being yanked upwards into light and air.

It feels exhausting just to stand, and she sways, blinking at her rescuer through bleary eyes. At first, all she can see is a blurred form, a sort of worm… bird worm… Hooty? Only, when she blinks again, she realize that this Hooty is still, expressionless, and tiny, protruding from the eye socket of someone who looks like…

“King?”

The figure chuckles in a voice that is decidedly not King’s, deep and measured. “No. But he does get his good looks from me.”

In the last twenty-four hours, Luz has faced down a dragon of eyeballs and mold, been chased through a celestial playground, and seen Mattholomule with a drawn-on mustache, and she’s managed not to get overwhelmed. But this? She feels like her brain is a plate of warm spaghetti, being twirled around and around on a fork.

“Oh, Titan,” she breathes.

“Oh, me!” her rescuer says, pleased. “Nice to meet you, Luz the human.”

He’s wearing a Bad Girl Coven shirt, Luz realizes half-hysterically. And glyph-patterned pajama pants. But still, she reaches out and takes his hand. He might be some kind of mold-blast-induced dream, but that’s no reason not to be polite.

“You can’t actually be the Titan Titan, right? You’re the Boiling Isles, and that Titan is all—“

“Dead-looking?” he asks. His expression is sad, but there’s no denial in it, and Luz feels her knees go weak. She wraps her arms around herself, slowly sinking back into the embrace of the water.

“Does that mean I’m also…”

“Ah, no, nope, no, you don’t want to do that.” He reaches out, pulling her back to her feet. “If you go under without a portal, you really will be dead-looking.”

So… she’s not? And neither is he? Luz finds herself beaming. “I can’t believe this. You’re King’s dad!”

“I think King said it best once: ‘I am both king and queen, best of both things!’ But dad works fine.”

This might be the coolest being Luz has ever met.

With her most pressing questions answered, Luz looks around, and realizes to her surprise that her surroundings are familiar. The liquid below her, the floating cubes above… this is the space between the Human Realm and the demon one. Only, she’s never been clear about where exactly that is.

“What is this place?”

“This is the space in between… well, in between a lot of places. And I’ve been stuck here for quite some time. But at least I can keep an eye on my child, and those who have been kind to him.”

King’s dad grabs hold of a passing cube and watches images pass over it. Luz grabbing King in a hug, the two of them laughing over a pile of bread slices, Eda embracing them both. Luz feels warm and cold all at once. She’s thrilled for King, eager to tell him, that the parent he felt so far away from him was watching him with so much love. But behind that happiness is the question of her own dad, and the breathless wish that he could be watching her and the people she loves in the same way.

As soon as she thinks it, shame rises in her, so thick and choking that she has to look away. Does she really wish her dad could see what she’s become? This person who was nearly responsible for the deaths of an entire island of people, who can never make a plan that doesn’t fall apart almost immediately, who has turned so angry and vengeful?

“I’m not so kind,” she whispers. “When I saw the Collector fly up to Belos, I hoped with all my heart I would see them blast him away, and—"

“Hey, I can relate. I was willing to do anything to keep my kid safe. But I attacked the wrong person, dragged the Collector down here for nothing.”

“Does that make us as bad as Belos?”

To Luz’s shock, King’s dad laughs. “What? Have you been drinking Eda’s homemade apple blood?”

“Well, Belos says he’s trying to save humanity, and we’re saying we want to save our families, so isn’t that the same thing, don’t those feelings come from the same place?”

“Well, you assume Belos’s goal comes from a genuine place. But that man doesn’t care about anything but his need to be the hero in his own delusion. And because of that, he fears what he can’t control.”

“And now that fear is going to win.”

“Ah, dang.” Luz turns to see King’s dad staring down at his chest. She gasps.

There’s a glowing tumor there, eating a hole into it. It’s the same fungus that’s covering the Isles, she knows, the one Belos conjured— but it looks so much like her childhood nightmare, like the way her younger self began to picture her dad’s insides as his outside grew weaker and weaker, that a single look at it is enough to burn her eyes.

“I thought I had more time left,” King’s dad says, “but Belos will have full control soon.” He looks at Luz. “You ready to stop him?”

“What? What can I do?” 

Nothing. It’s the obvious answer, the lesson Luz has learned time and time again. She moved to Gravesfield without complaint because she thought it would fix her dad, and she was wrong. She did that stupid book report because she thought it would fix things for her mom, and she was wrong. She tried to fix things for the Isles, again and again and again, and she only made things worse— and then, when she attempted to set that right, she ended up here.

“You’ve already helped King so much. Now let me use my last bit of life to help you.”

King’s dad extends his hand, glowing with a combination of glyphs Luz has never seen before. But she knows what it means, what he’s offering: a second chance. A new body. Magic.

“Are you sure you want to give this power to me?”

“Well, you’re the one here, and you seem like a good witch. But I can’t give you anything unless you choose to accept it. So the question is, will you choose yourself?”

Luz has a flash of seeing the Titan as she knew him, watching his skeleton in the sea from high above on Owlbert, Eda on one side of her and King on the other. Look, kid, everyone wants to believe they’re chosen. But if we all waited around for a prophecy to make us special, we’d die waiting. That’s why you need to choose yourself.

Luz came to the Isles wanting to be a savior. If the person she was then had been in this position, she would have taken the Titan’s hand without hesitation, overjoyed to fulfill her fantasy. To be the hero in her own delusion. But she knows now that she’s not a hero. She’s just the one here.

The one here... because King’s dad believed she was a good witch. Because even when she was caught up in her fantasy, he still saw enough in her worth empowering to show her the glyphs she withheld from Belos. That has to mean something.

You’ve helped King so much, he said, and she believes him. She knows King loves her. And if she had given up after her dad died, if she had let herself believe it would be better for her mom if she became someone neither of them recognized, she never would have found him. Never would have found Eda and reunited her with Lilith, helped Amity leave her parents’ shadow and reconnect with Willow, helped Hunter see the truth about Belos before it was too late. She tried to help people, and yes, sometimes there was nothing she could do. Yes, sometimes she hurt people in the process. But she never meant to. Not like Belos… not like Philip.

Luz has been here before. Standing before a father she can’t heal. But there is still something she can do. It’s something she did for her mom, opening The Good Witch Azura for the first time in her black dress and reading it through puffy eyes. It’s something she did for Eda and King, following Owlbert through the portal door. It’s something she did for Amity and Willow and Hunter and Gus, running to that same door with them as it threatened to splinter apart. It’s something she did for all of them when she stepped back into the Isles two months later.

Luz can choose herself.

She reaches out to take King’s dad’s hand. And she comes back to life.

Full Family AU Part 40

Breakfast went by in a slow, tense silence. At least, for the adults. Camila stared daggers at Eda, Eda tried not to make eye-contact, and Manny just looked between the both of them, worried who would cause the first punch or mean curse word. As for their kids, they were all in their own little world. Luz happily munched on her eggs, the little King guy practically inhaled his helping, and Vee was eating hers slowly and carefully.

It was Vee that mostly grabbed Manny's attention for a bit. Not only was this the first time Vee wasn't devouring something that was put in front of her, it was also the first time since appearing in their lives that Vee wasn't wearing his jacket anymore. It made Manny feel unsure of what to think. On the one hand, he was concerned of what seemed to be harming Vee's appetite. On the other, he's also a little proud that she seemed willing to disregard the jacket for once.

It was certainly conflicting...

"Papi."

"Huh?" Manny turned his attention to Luz, who had finished her eggs and started patting her knees patiently and excitedly.

"What are we going to do today?" She asked. "It's Saturday, so it's a FUN day, right?"

"Um, right," Manny said with a nod. "Just...give me some time to think, alright? Wait until after breakfast."

"Oh, okay...Can I go watch TV now that I finished mine?"

"Sure."

"Yay!" Luz jumped out of her chair and ran to the living room.

"Children programing only!" Manny called out to her. "Do NOT go to FX, you're still too young to watch that stuff alone!"

Luz whined in response. It got Manny to chuckle, only for that to die down when he looked back at Vee. Still eating slowly, having half a plate left.

'She's definitely going through it,' Manny thought. 'Not sure what it is, but I got to do something.'

And then an idea came to him. One that would require permission.

"Camila," Manny said, "How about I take the girls to the park today?"

For the first time, Camila looked away from Eda to now stare at Manny.

"Girls?" She asked. "As in...Luz and Vee?"

"You need a break and Vee needs to get out of the house for a bit," Manny explained. "She's seems a bit cooped up lately. Having a fun day at the park might do her some good."

"Are you sure that's safe? Given how people might ask who Vee is?"

"Quick thing," Eda said, "how about you ask the kid what she wants instead of talking to her like she ain't here?"

Camila glared at her once more, but Manny was willing to agree.

"Vee?" He spoke, getting Vee's attention. "How would you like to go to the park?"

"What's...a park?" Vee asked.

"It's a place where you and kids your age can run around and have fun," Manny enthusiastically told her. "All with adult supervision, of course. And It'll probably be a lot better than being cooped up in a house all day, coloring and watching TV."

"...TV is fun," Vee muttered.

"Yeah, but you can't do that for the rest of your life." Manny looked over to Camila with an arched eyebrow. "Am I right...?"

Camila stared back at him again, her expression unreadable for a bit.

Ultimately, she sighed, accepting that he had a good point. "Fine. But don't tell anyone much about Vee."

"My lips will be sealed," Manny promised. "Luz!"

"Yeah?!" Luz shouted from the living room.

"We're going to the park!"

"YAY!"

“Greetings, bird tube beast… thing, I am here to speak with the girl.” William said in a huff as he approached the Owl House, grumpy and slightly out of breath from the long walk.

“And whoooo may I say is calling?” Hooty said sweetly, twirling his neck around.

“Prince William,” he said crisply. “I’ve come to continue our conversation about proper etiquette and to speak with her guardian about her reckless behavior.”

“Yeah, I’m pretty sure her guardian is the one who taught her that behavior.” Hooty said. “But aaaaanyways, she’s not-.”

“I’m afraid I must insist, it is an urgent matter that I cannot prolong.”

“Okaaaay, but she’s not-.”

“I understand she will not want to face me given her poor manners, but it is a matter we must resolve like civilized people. Now, may I speak with her?”

“I shall get someone to speak to you,” said Hooty, turning his head inside and William could hear him yell. “THERE’S AN ANGRY LITTLE MAN AT THE DOOR!” he turned back to face William and offered him a smile. “She’ll be right with you, m’lord.”

“Right… thank you.”

He had worked on his speech the whole way over. He needed her help, he could not deny that, but he also needed to ensure her decorum did not continue. The door opened and a William prepared to launch right into his monlougue, but the girl who opened the door was not the girl from before. No, the girl who stood before him now was surely an angel.

“Oh, hello,” said the angel. “I’m sorry, Luz and Eda aren’t home right now. I’m watching Hooty and King while they’re away, I’m Paulina.” She reached out her hand to him and William found himself speechless for possibly the first time in his life. She was so effortlessly graceful, so delicate, so vivid. The way her peridot eyes reflected the sun made him feel as though-.

“I think he’s broken.” Spoke the bird tube and William shook himself out of his trance, realizing in embarrassment that he had been staring.

Remembering his title, he carefully took her hand in his and brought it to his lips. “A pleasure to make your acquaintance, fair lady.” He said trying to make his voice low and mature sounding as he gently pressed a kiss to her to top of her hand.

Now it was Paulina’s turn to stare as the princely boy before her continued to hold her hand as he raised his eyes to her. There was no sarcasm in his words or insincerity in his smile, a gap in his front teeth adding to his charm. He seemed as though he was genuinely pleased to meet her which was not something Paulina was used to feeling with confidence. She felt like her heart was about to-

“Hey! Who’s at the door? Did we order food? We don’t have any money! Take the food and run!” King’s voice beckoned as the little creature pushed past Paulina only to be disappointed with the lack of snacks in William’s arms. “Oh, it’s you. Why are you kissing my servant?”

“King I told you, I’m not your servant I’m your babysitter.” Laughed Paulina, her had still in William’s as he froze in place.

“Well I guess that would be an appropriate title, IF THERE WAS A BABY HERE!” King exclaimed standing between her and William, extending his arms to her eagerly so she could pick him up. “Uppies! Uppies!”

Paulina sighed as she picked up the little creature and rested him on her hip as she turned her attention back to the handsome stranger in front of her. “I’m so sorry, I didn’t catch your name.”

“My name? Oh yes of course how terribly rude of me,” he said reaching for her and yet again. “Prince William, at your service m’lady.” He placed another kiss on her hand, prolonging this one as he held her gaze hoping to create the perfect first impression.

“A prince? Really?” Giggled Paulina. It was a throaty, airy giggle she had never heard herself make before. “Oh… wow.”

He was so… tall. Like, not ridiculously tall but tall enough that when he stood back up and Paulina looked up at him, he cut off the sun perfectly so that it looked as though a halo surrounded his golden hair. She didn’t remove her hand from his this time and and could’ve sworn that he tightened his grip.

“Oh! Oh! Kiss my hand! Kiss my hand!” King sang, entering their line of linked vision and reminding them they weren’t the only two people in the world as he waved his hands in William’s face. The prince didn’t know what else to do and so took King’s hand and quickly kissed it. King laughed and clapped his hands in delight. “Haha ew, you have no idea where these have been.”

“Right, anyway,” William tried to continue, now with an odd taste in his mouth. “I’m here because-.”

“-you’re soaking wet.” Paulina finished, noticing his state for the first time.

“Huh? Oh, yes that’s why I’m here,” he said, remembering the reason he came all this way. “I uh, had a run in with the human and I needed to-.”

“Here.” Paulina said, handing him a green cloth she took from her pocket.

“Oh, uh… thank you,” he said, taking the fabric from her and he suddenly realized how uncomfortable he actually was. The human had “borrowed” his sword and when he insisted of its immediate return, she forced him to chase her and he ended up falling in a barrel of some odd smelling liquid. He was suddenly very self conscious of this and hoped Paulina did not assume that this was how he usually smelled. He wished they had met under better circumstances, and he could show her the full extent of his charm. But for now, he gently dabbed his sleeves with her small offering .

“Don’t mention it,” she said sweetly, scratching King’s head. “I always keep them with me, abomination goo is hard to clean off, especially when it gets in your hair.”

“That’s only one of the reasons my hands are sticky!” King declared in delight.

“Right,” said William, taken back by the way kindness came so naturally to her. Typically when people were this kind to him, they wanted something from him. But he sensed her sweetness was constant. “Um, well if the human isn’t here then I guess I should be going…”

“Oh, right yeah.” Paulina said, remembering he hadn’t come here just to see her. “Um, did you want me to give her a message?”

“Oh, yes if you could,” he said. “Just uh, let her know that I’ll be back tomorrow. Will… you be here tomorrow?” He added as nonchalantly as he could.

“I will!” Hooty chimed in. They had forgotten he was there.

“It’s possible,” she said with a smile. “Is there anything else you want me to tell her?”

“Yes, uh tell her that while I’m less than thrilled with her actions… I’m rather impressed with the company she keeps.” He went to return her cloth to her but she held her hand up to refuse.

“Keep it,” she insisted. “I have plenty.”

“Thank you,” he said, tucking it carefully in his breast pocket for safe keeping. He tucked it close to his heart, hoping she somehow sensed the romantic sentiment. He assumed she did, as entrusting a handkerchief to a prince was a key part in every royal romance he had ever read about. Oh, this girl was perfect. Finally, someone who appreciates and understood the importance of etiquette. “I shall keep it safe.”

“Um… okay?” She said, not seeing the big deal as it was just an extra rag she felt he needed more than she did right now. “Well, William it was very nice meeting you.”

“Oh, the pleasure was all mine,” he said with a grand flourish. Once more, he reached for her hand. “Until we meet again.” He kissed her knuckle once more. He gave her one final now before turning swiftly on his heel to leave her with the perfect farewell. Any anger he came here with had since been washed away and he felt lighter than he ever had before, it was almost like he was floating back to the castle.

“Is there like jelly on your knuckles or something? Why did he keep doing that?” King wondered aloud as he examined her hands and Paulina watched William walk away with a grand sigh.

“That’s the prince Luz said was whiney and scrawny?” Paulina said, thinking he was just the opposite. Luz never mentioned his piercing eyes or the elegant way his voice flowed. She was perplexed that anyone could be anything other than charmed after meeting him. “Oh wow, I can’t believe I just met a prince.”

She hasn’t panned on visiting the owl house tomorrow, but now her mine raced with a dozen reasons to stop by.

“Pshh, big deal I totally outrank him!” King declared. “And my crown is way better!”

Today was the day. Hunter stares at himself in the mirror, a little red with his own nerve.

“Okay..okay! You can do this, Hunter! Just..come up to her, and tell her how you feel. It won’t be hard! You used to be in the emperor’s coven, you used to battle criminals on the daily! What’s one confession to a really cool girl gonna do to your ego? Nothing, that’s what!” 

Even his lies don’t convince him. He sighs, running his hands through his hair. 

“Who am I kidding…Y/N isn’t just some cool girl…she’s the coolest! Ughh—”

Whatever. This day with everyone to the local county fair might give him some confidence. Hunter still had to get ready, after all. 

Yeah, he’s definitely not ready for this.

It had been quite a day. Hunter definitely thought so. Willow and Gus ran off to go do a bet — ‘whoever pukes first before going through all the rides loses!’. Ew. And Luz and Amity went off to win some plushie for each other. Eda and King went around, scamming oblivious tourists. 

So now…he was alone. With Y/N. In a secluded spot behind the food court. They both sat together, quiet. 

Hunter glances over to Y/N. She was looking at the fireworks above, a soft smile on her features. He reddens, looking away. She was just so…pretty. How could he even start?

“Um..Y/N?”

“Yes, Hunter?” She looks over to him. The sounds of the fireworks seem to fade away when she locks eyes with him. Titan, he really was smitten. 

“I uh, have something to tell you.”

“Oh? Go ahead!” she grins. She looks at him curiously, fiddling with the hems of her dress. Hunter gulps. 

“So, you know how we’ve known each other for a while?”

“Mhm.”

“I, um, guess…I caught something in those years of knowing you.” He was just making himself suffer at this point, dragging the whole thing longer than it needed to be. Just say the words! 

Y/N continued to look at him with that awe-struck eyes. “And?” she asks gently, waiting patiently for his next string of words to come out. 

“...feelings. I..I caught feelings for you. Y-you’re just really, pretty, and really sweet, and you’re so cool, a-and..”

His face felt like it was on fire, red as a beet. Hunter stumbles on his words, while Y/N simply stares at him with those eyes, so alluring. Like she was waiting for him to get to the point.

He glances at her lips. A static shock goes against his heart, like it was trying to egg him on. 

“I..”

He leans closer. Y/N does the same. He could feel her breath on his lips, so close — it smelled like lavender, and a hint of cinnamon. From the pretzel she had eaten before, he thinks with a quiet chuckle. 

And without further ado, they lock lips. It was short, chaste, soft. It had been something Hunter found himself thinking about too much – how it would be lke to kiss her. And this..this was more than he could ever imagine. Something beyond his wildest dreams. 

He loved it. 

His heart gives a flutter before they breath apart. Suddenly shy, Y/N whispers, 

“What are you trying to say?”

“W-what I’m trying to say is—” And with that, Hunter knew he was fighting a losing battle— “NOTHING, I’M NOT SAYING ANYTHING! Y-YOU’RE CRAZY! SORRY THIS WAS A BAD IDEA. OKAY GOODBYE FOREVER.”

He stands up quickly, before running off, hiding his very red face in his hands, he looked like he was about to explode at that point. In his mind he’s firing off so many thoughts, all at once, still very flustered — oh, Titan, why did I say that, now she’s gonna hate me forever, I shouldn’t have said anything at all, and kissing her?! I’m so dead. 

Y/N was left to her own uncollected thoughts as everyone appeared from their hiding places. 

“I really thought he was gonna do it!” gasps Willow, as Gus lends her a handful of popcorn. “Jeez, he chickened out? Boo!” he adds. 

“Man, just when I thought he gathered up all his confidence,” Luz says with a shake of her head. 

“Poor Y/N, though, she’s utterly confused,” Amity says, pointing at Y/N. She seemed a little red herself, to be honest, still staring at Hunter’s fading figure. 

“He literally kissed her, what is it with you kids and your unnecessary drama?” Eda says, perhaps a little too loud. 

When Y/N turns around, everyone pops back into their hiding places.

“He…he likes me?” she says, reddening. Flustered. 

-THE NEXT DAY-

The blonde boy sighs. He had a lot on his mind. Too many thoughts clouding his rational thinking. He glances up at the wisteria tree above him. He liked the Hexside garden. A lot. It could clear his head. 

But not today. Not even the sweet scent of the wisteria could help him this time. 

“Skipping classes, are you?”

Hunter jolts at the voice — her voice — before looking her way. Y/N stands there, a soft, unreadable expression painted on her face. 

“How did you find me?” he asks first. 

She sits down beside him with a sigh. “Luz told me.”

“Of course she did..” he mutters to himself. 

It was quiet again. Neither knew what to say. When Hunter looks back at her, he realizes she was already looking at him. Surprised, he quickly glances away, cheeks red. 

“About last night…”

“Look, can we just…forget about what happened? I-I’m sorry, I made everything awkward between us–”

“No, no, not at all!” she smiles, touching his hand. “You…you put things into perspective with me, actually..”

“And? Wh…what do you think?” he was anxious, fidgeting and red. He didn’t know if he wanted to hear the next words that would escape Y/N’s lips or not. 

“I like you back, Hunter. How could I not? You’re so sweet, and very kind, and you’re stupidly adorable when you’re flustered.”

He blinks. 

What?

“..What?” He repeats the singular word in his mind. 

“I like you back, you big dork,” she repeats, grinning up at him, still red. “So, what do you say?”

“I..”

Another absentminded glance back to her lips, and Hunter gives in. The faint static of electricity blooms in his chest, the same one back at the fair…

And this time, she leans in. This time, she initiates the kiss. He didn’t think it possible to feel the fluttering in his heart again, not when it was so rare, but he did. He felt it. And suddenly he was a mess again, a stupid, dorky, awkward mess. He melts into the kiss, shutting his eyes. It was…perfect. This time, the kiss wasn’t too short, Hunter could focus on the different parts of it…how soft her lips were, probably from the chapstick she liked to use…lavender, that was it. That was why he tasted lavender…and the smell of the wisteria leaves seem to flutter and dance about the pair. 

When they both pulled apart, it was apparent Y/N herself was blushing. 

“I say..”

She waits for his response, with baited breath. 

“...that your chapstick tastes pretty good.”

She blinks, then laughs. Her laugh always was so angelic…Hunter, focus here! She giggles, slightly, still a little surprised but giddy at his joke. 

“Do you want the brand?” she teases. He rolls his eyes playfully, almost forgetting his nervousness. 

“Maybe I could try tasting it again? Uh, you know…just as a trial, to see if I wanna buy my own.”

“Be my guest.” 

They kiss again, under that wisteria tree. He was in pure bliss. Was this the feeling many spoke of? He finally understood. 

Under that wisteria tree, Hunter could see the secrets of the universe in her eyes, he could feel everything with her kiss.

Willow patted Gus’ shoulder empathetically. “Oh Gus, I’m sure it wasn’t that bad. If you just talk to each other—

“Absolutely not. He needs to apologize to me first.”

“What even started the fight?” Luz asked

“I….don’t know actually. But it doesn’t matter! Matt was still in the wrong and I’m not talking to him,” Gus huffed, crossing his arms.

Willow and Luz looked at each other with concern. It had been a week since The Fight and Gus was clearly not “fine” as he had continued to assure them. He had barely left his room all week and Perry had called them, concerned about his son slipping into a bout of depression. Even a Cosmic Frontier marathon with Hunter didn’t seem to cheer him up.

“We know it’s difficult, Gus. When Hunter and I get into a fight we sometimes say a lot of things that we don’t mean. That’s why it’s important to talk it out,” Willow offered.

“Yeah, same with me and Amity. Relationships are hard but they’re worth it, you just have to put in the effort,” Luz said.

“But that’s different,” Gus whined, “you guys are couples. Matt and I are just friends.”

Luz and Willow shared a brief, discreet expression of skepticism. Luz leaned over to whisper into Willow’s ear: “I have an idea.”

“Luz, I don’t understand. Why am I hiding in the closet again?”

Luz clicked her tongue. “Gus, Gus, Gus! What did I tell you? It’s all part of the game.”

“I don’t remember ever hearing about this game when we were in the human realm.”

“Well it’s…new. Like hide and seek, only better! Now remember, stay here and keep your eyes closed until I tell you to open them.” Luz carefully shut the door to the closet with Gus still inside. Then she sent a quick message to Willow who was waiting outside with Matt.

“Oh! They’re ready for us,” Willow announced.

Matt only frowned. “I still think this is stupid. Why can’t he just hext me or come to my house?”

“He wanted to talk to you in person and he thought the Owl House would be the best place. You should just be glad that Gus wants to make amends. Though he might change his mind with that attitude.”

Matt sighed. “Fine, let’s go.”

Willow led him through the house to the same closet that Gus was “hiding” in.

“He’s in here,” she said.

“Wait isn’t that a clo—aaaahh!” Matt yelled as Willow pushed him inside and closed the door, locking it from the outside.

Luz came out from her hiding spot to give the other girl a high five. “We did it!”

“Why does Eda have a closet that locks from the outside anyway?” Willow asked.

“I…didn’t want to ask too many questions.”

Gus, true to his word, had kept his eyes shut for what seemed like an eternity. That is, until he heard a yelp and something came crashing into him.

“Mattholomule?!”

Matt recoiled in horror, pulling himself off of the younger witch. “Ew, get off of me!”

“You’re the one who threw yourself at me.”

“I did not! Willow pushed me.”

“She did what?”

“Never mind, let’s just get out of here.” Matt went to try the door knob to no avail. Then he started banging on the door yelling for help but Gus already had put it together.

“They’re not going to let us out,” he said, “might as well give it up.”

“And stay here with you? Yeah right. Unless…”

“Unless what?”

“Unless you apologize for what you did.”

“I didn’t do anything, you jerk! You’re the one who should apologize.”

“Oh yeah? For what?”

When Gus didn’t answer, Matt slid down against the door and hugged his knees to his chest.

“You always do this,” he mumbled.

“What?”

“You only care about yourself. Not about how I feel.”

“That’s not true.”

“It seems like it. That’s why—ugh, never mind, this is stupid.”

Gus scooted closer. “What is it?” All the bitterness was gone from his voice, replaced by genuine concern.

“Just…I feel like I can’t tell you things.”

“What kind of things?” Gus was right in front of him now. Matt bit his lip and his eyes flicked upward to meet his friend’s. It was cute and it made the younger witch’s heart swell.

“…w-well…”

Gus’ fingers ghosted over Matt’s briefly and then suddenly his breath was on his cheek, warm and inviting and his eyes were on him, wordlessly asking the question that hovered over them. Then the younger witch’s lips were on his, soft and unsure, but it wasn’t long before Matt pulled him in closer. They didn’t know how much time passed, too caught up in the euphoria of finally expressing the thoughts and feelings that they had bottled up for so long. They were still attached at the face when Willow opened the door.

“Did they make up?” Luz asked.

“Oh yeah,” Willow said, “they definitely made up.”

Analyzing all the differences in the storyboards posted by Yasmin Khudari and the final product! - Part 2: Collector Edition!

And so here we are! If you haven't seen part 1, I urge you to do so, as we looked into some pretty interesting and lore rich boards that were cut or done differently compared to their final episodes!

This post will cover all the boards for For the Future, and as always I'll try to be mindful with how many pictures I add for the image limit!

While chronologically the sequence with King and Collector playing pretend comes first, that one gives us a LOT more ground to cover, so I'll start with the Bedtime Story sequence, which is frankly easier to get through!

First of all: minor change, Collector used to get big sparkly eyes when asking King to read them a story!

And there also used to be dialogue by Collector after he drops the huge book down, stating that this book usually takes 300 years to get through, but assuring King they usually fall asleep midway. I think this is kind of a funny line and it would make sense with the way King responds "easy..." afterwards, which did make it in the final cut. Of course we still get that impression without this dialogue, but it was kind of funny. The book also appears to have paper pages here, rather than stone slabs.

Minor visual thing that I think is very cute: the scribbles over the "bad" part Collector did used to have little angry faces! I'm so sad they didn't make it in! Look at them! One is sticking its tongue out!

Small but super interesting dialogue change also: King used to read aloud the part Collector scratched out anyway, and go "yikes" as a response to it (fun! and accessible for viewers who may not be able to read it when it comes up for some reason!) and as a result, Collector doesn't say "don't read the NEXT part, skip to where I fixed it", but rather just "don't read the BAD part", confirming he does view it as bad. He also would say "right..." when finishing reading! I like how talkative he used to be here... sad it got lost.

Minor thing! King also used to tilt his head when telling Collector he only lets one other person hold François. This little movement is absent from the final cut!

There's also a dialogue change with Collector, he doesn't refer to Luz as "that human", but rather by name, going "your old best friend, Luz". I wonder if this was changed because the crew thought Collector might not want to admit this about Luz, or if maybe it felt inaccurate since Luz is more specifically King's sister figure.

And finally... oh these boards have gone viral baby. Excited to talk about them!

Instead of saying "I don't like being alone" after asking King at least leave François to watch over them, Collector says they promise not to touch it which... oh myyyyy God, this is so cute.

But I am conflicted about it! I think the inclusion of the line about loneliness makes a lot of thematic sense considering how this is brought up again by King to Eda and Lilith, as a reminder of the pivotal part of Collector's trauma dealing with his imprisonment, but on the other hand! This original line would have driven home the point of how good Collector is trying to be for King, specially with the divergence that comes next.

This! This feels so important! This is a call back to the moment where King tells Collector they can trust him (and this is present in both the roughs and cleans AND the final episode!) and make a pinky promise! This right here is a direct parallel that has King decide that if he tells Collector they can trust him, he should trust them too! This is decisive in portraying them as two kids who are trying to see each other as equals and just have immensely unhelpful circumstances all around them!

I can understand why it was reworked though, again, I feel like they might not want to let the audience forget about The Collector's loneliness because it is such a pivotal part of their arc and it constitutes the very important theming of how wrongful imprisoning someone is, and how punishing children through methods that border on or are straight up torture do nothing to help them grow. If this wasn't brought up again at least once, I can see the crew feeling this section of his character was neglected, and he was made into just a playmate for King to hang out with that'll inevitably turn good by the end.

I just... wish I could have them both, lol but well, other fans also had some pretty big losses in other storyboard changes, so I guess I'll settle for what we have now! I did speculate the theming of trust and telling the truth and striving to see each other as equals will come back next special, so here's hoping this won't be dropped completely!

Anyway, now for the big event! The roughs AND cleans for the playing pretend sequence! For this one, since there are sometimes differences happening between each of the board sets AND the final episode, I'll be adding those simultaneously as things happen.

First of all! Immediate punch to the gut: In the roughs, Willow used to run at her dad and get close to him and try to talk to him, not just wait until the puppets started running and screaming! I can only imagine they took this out because this would just be really sad?? But this show also revels in sadness and they do want to make us feel for Willow so I do not get it... maybe time save? Either way. I cry.

Oh yeah also! As you can see here! The puppets used to, for the most part, have stars for eyes instead of just stylized eyes? It's more subtle in the clean version but their eyes still turn into stars when they're "activated". I'm not sure why this was changed other than to maybe make it easier to animate.

Willow seems to have no dialogue when running after her dad both in the roughs and cleans, though in the cleans she does only run after him when he starts running and screaming, just like the final episode.

Also! There is a small scene not present in the final episode but both in the roughs and cleans: When Terra is running around as the owl beast, there is a close up of her obscured face with mouth open looking like a big monster mouth. I can see that they probably cut this due to it probably being weird to get such a close up without giving away it's not Eda, or maybe it was just for some extra time.

Another minor change, when she sees her dad getting attacked, in the roughs, Willow doesn't bring out her staff, instead just covering her mouth. In the cleans, she does the final episode motion normally. I think they may have changed this to reflect her personality better: we do know Willow is the type to want to jump into action to protect those she cares for.

Also minor detail: after Collector says "stop right there, beast" there used to be no frame showing Willow being surprised by this and hesitating, cutting directly to Collector's star descending with him and King on it.

Minor dialogue difference as well! Both in cleans and roughs, Collector did not address the "citizens of Bonesborough", but rather declares "I'm here to stop your mad rampage!" at the beast! I feel like it may have been changed to better reflect his view of playing the hero of the story here, instead of just playing the role of hunting the beast as he may have done before.

However the identification of his role as Luz came in the form of something else, as King used to have added dialogue in both the roughs and cleans, going "Use the spell I helped you find, Collector!" This is very cute, and I kind of wish they kept it in, it solidifies that King is playing along as an important part in the story, just like the actual episode they are referencing! I wonder if it was cut for time or if it was redundant or something...

And then King goes "I believe in you!" with your usual "Thanks, best friend" reply from Collector.

We also have this short little cut moment where you can see them looking at each other happily and there's a weird divergence between the roughs and cleans here. See, they're nearly identical, but in the roughs, King appears to be blushing for some reason?

Granted, we have seen characters blush in non-romantic settings before, even cut blushes in storyboards such as Luz blushing when being happy about Philip being impressed by her (I still feel so bad for her!) ...but it is at least notable here because a lot of people debate whether King actually enjoyed Collector's company and would like to be friends in the future or not, but I feel like moments like these in the storyboards (the bit about trusting each other from earlier on comes to mind) help solidify that they were always meant to befriend each other, King isn't just a miserable participant with no agency whatsoever! His little blush could indicate he feels happy by now to play with them! And there are further boards I will show that further prove this!

In the final cut, this bit is of course, absent, instead just cutting to Luz's eyes widening. This also leads to a funny little divergence in the roughs and cleans, where what I think happened here is that the reaction Luz used to have at Terra coming out of the Owl Beast costume was instead at first going to be her reaction to King and Collector playing together and seemingly enjoying each other's company... which is very funny to me. I think they may have changed this because it may have seemed a little too mean spirited to have Luz react so badly at King being happy around Collector.

Look... I made a GIF to show how they're one to one the same frame... This literally is just funny to me.

Another small cut moment, there used to be an overview shot of the puppets cheering for Collector! This one is very cute. Look at them with their little hands on their hips!!

And because Luz's reaction to Collector and King being besties got switched around, this caused another set of fun divergences in the roughs, cleans, and final storyboards.

In the roughs, Luz has a moment where she looks attentively at the Owl Beast costume as the camera holds on it, likely doing a kind of suspense zoom and then bait and switch. In the cleans, the zoom doesn't happen. However in both the roughs and cleans, there is a close up of Luz reacting with a weirded out face at the same time as Terra says "back to normal" offscreen.

I imagine what happened here is that these expressions from the boards were then re-tooled to be the close up shot we see of Luz reacting to King and Collector, her eyes just widening as she stares in shock.

Further on, Terra also has some cut dialogue and actions, which are the same in both the roughs and cleans:

While kicking off a bit of the costume, she then throws her "hair" back and goes "Bad girls and so on". This is a funny little bit that I can only think was maybe but for time!

And then! We actually have a case of added content! In the roughs and cleans, Collector didn't give Terra any descriptions about Eda being "like a cool aunt" who "actually cares a lot". I do think it was clever to include this, it helps show a little better that Collector actually respects and likes Eda despite how things are at the moment.

After that, both in the cleans and roughs, Terra's dialogue changes a little bit, instead of calling King a "stupid little" dog, she calls him a "little freak" dog, which does sound like a kind of harsher insult.

Another minor change that is barely noticeable, the roughs and cleans call for Terra clearing her throat before going "Ooh, I like musicians", and you can see a BIT of this motion in the final cut, but she doesn't actually do it, just sort of inhales.

Similarly, there's another cut bit in both the roughs and cleans where Terra would cough and gag right after this line, indicating she would maybe be disgusted by Eda and Raine's relationship. I think this could've been a funny bit but I understand if it was cut for time or maybe the VA couldn't cough at that moment due to complications for any reason.

This next scene is also slightly different! And contains also small differences between both the roughs and cleans! Collector, instead of saying, "You're not being very nice right now", goes "I never pinky swore to THAT."

In the roughs, he assumes more of a frowny expression, just looking kinda angry at Terra like in the final cut, but in the cleans, he gives this sinister ass smile that I love love love! Oh, my little son named warcrimes who commits atrocities and I adore it.

Minor change: Terra used to plead "no no no no" before getting turned into a puppet in both the roughs and cleans, but this is absent in the final cut.

Alright, this next part gets REAL complicated with the divergences not just towards the final cut, but with both versions - rough and clean - between each other. There's a ton of dialogue changing and even action/expression changing, and I'm very excited to talk about it.

First, in both the roughs and cleans, after going "Collector, buddy, you gotta stop doing that." King doesn't plead "Think about what you're doing to these people", but instead says "You're running out of people to play with." I imagine they may have changed this to make King seem more sympathetic to the plight of the people getting turned into puppets, whereas the first one showed more of his practical side knowing just what to say to Collector to get them to question things, as Collector would probably respond better to being reminded this is less people to play with. Another reason why this may have been cut is because one could argue Collector can still play with the puppets, just that they won't be sentient.

Here is where we run into our first divergence: present only in the cleans, King also adds "plus, you could've really hurt someone!" I imagine this bit was added in the cleans to make up for that need of showing King's compassion, but I think the reason this was also changed is that it doesn't make sense? We know the puppets aren't getting hurt, sure it's terrifying to lose control of your own body and be forced to be a doll and sleep within that wooden carcass, but they're not at risking of being actively hurt and can be easily fixed if anything happens. This is of course still bad, but the threat of physical harm doesn't make sense in this case particularly.

Because of this divergence, here's where the roughs, cleans, and final cut split into three different versions:

In the roughs, Collector responds by continuing to seem sad and going "But we'll NEVER be able to play Owl House right without an Owl Lady." He then pleads: "Maybe if you let me talk to Eda myself-" which... certainly seems a lot different than the chipper "maybe if I ask her real nice, I won't have to turn her into a puppet" from the final cut. This reads even more like Collector wants to connect to Eda and talk to her, but is being actively kept from it by King. I can see why maybe this was cut as it would make King look a little bad for barring Collector so much from seeing Eda if he is so well meaning, whereas the final version actually seems more threatening and like King has a reason to not want them interacting yet.

In the cleans, however, because King added that comment about maybe hurting people, Collector responds in a really interesting way: "You said this game was pretend, why do I gotta worry about stuff like that?" Both the roughs and cleans as you've probably already picked up lack that malicious "you're so boring" jab at King, but this one is definitely the one with the most striking contrast, as this one directly implies Collector WOULD worry about hurting people, and is just confused as to how this could happen in their game.

This makes King go into his little speech about playing pretend having consequences, but this one is also slightly altered: Instead of saying "playing pretend", King says "living in a fantasy has consequences, too. Real ones". And ohhh! I would like to bite my fucking arm off at this!! Do you see this shit! Not only is this perfect fodder for the theory Collector is trying to shut himself away from the grief he feels over the titans and refusing to confront his past trauma and generally repressing his emotions, but! It is even more of a DIRECTLY DRAWN parallel to King, by HIMSELF, at King's season 1 self and his backstory of having once believed he was the King of Demons.

But of course, I can see reasons why this may have been changed. Namely, "living in a fantasy" may have confused audiences while "playing pretend" is more of a direct description of what is happening. Also "real ones" may have just been cut for extra seconds. Lord knows they need those.

After King says that, Collector launches into his usual excited talk of Eda, though he doesn't say "no substitutes allowed". However, just like in the roughs, how he refers to talking to Eda here is pretty different. Here, he says "Maybe if you'd let me talk to her, she'd wanna play-"

Again, no mention of turning her into a puppet. Hmmm.

So, I have some theories. First is pretty straight-forward, they added the threat of her maybe getting turned into a puppet to keep the stakes high and give a reason for King to really object Collector talking to her. The second one... well, it involves a lot about Collector's arc in this episode and how it may have changed over time, but I want to talk more about it once we finish looking at all the boards for differences, and believe me, we aren't done yet.

After this, the roughs and cleans meet again, and both of them feature King going "n-no", but unlike the final cut, his dialogue is slightly different here again: he doesn't say "Her curse is still in effect." He says "She's still... not feeling well... y'know. The curse and all that." It's a subtle difference, and it does use more words and pauses, so I think they may have just changed this for time.

The roughs and cleans and final all diverge again here: In the roughs, King reassures Collector by saying "I'll talk to her about joining the game, don't you worry." In the cleans, it switches to "D-don't worry! I'll talk to her for you". In the finals, we have the known "But I can check if she's feeling better." Here we have a progression that I think shows us the difference between King promising Collector something we really aren't going to see- which is Eda joining the game, to say he'll talk to her for him which is similar but vaguer, and then, just saying he'll check on her. I feel this change may have occurred so his promise is mostly kept here.

Slight divergence: Collector goes "you promise?" as a response in all versions, but only in the cleans and final version does he do that little lean while smiling. In the roughs, he used to remain kind of sad looking. I wonder if initially they were going for Collector initially doubting King, but discarded that in favor of his more confident behavior.

And hoo boy, this next divergence is another that makes me kind of insane. You see, while King says the same thing in all three versions, "You can trust me, Collector" and offers a pinky promise, his expressions and motions! They are so different in storyboards!

In the final version, you'll recall King has his gaze averted while offering the pinky and looks kinda sad while doing it. In both the roughs and cleans though...

Look at how happy he seems doing it! He looks at Collector the whole time, only looking away at their pinkies for a second, then they have a moment where they just look at each other happily!

So this is that further implication I was talking about, that King and Collector, at least in some iteration of the story, were written to actively be friends, and not just have a one-sided thing.

Again, I have a few theories about why this was changed. Another straightforward one is just that they wanted to show King was still worried about things and not just nonchalant about the misery around him. Another possible, less straightforward one is that they really wanted to keep the thing about King actually caring about the Collector and not wanting to hurt him a surprise. In a way, that makes sense, younger people may fall for this, hell, I've seen at least one or two people online confess they really thought King wanted to kill Collector with that line from him. So to show them being so indisputably intimate would kind of spoil that.

That being said though... I have another theory, the very same that connects as to why other things have been changed, but again, it's kind of big so I wanna talk about it after we're done.

Only in the roughs now, there's a small bit where we see Camila scoot over to Luz's side to ask "Is that the little guy you've been telling me about?" (Notice in the final cut she also says little King, not just little guy. I feel like this was done to avoid confusion on who she referred to.) In the cleans, it just cuts instead of showing her getting there.

There's also a big divergence in the roughs, cleans, and final result here. First of all, in the roughs and cleans, there's no zoom in on Camila's face.

Then, in the roughs, after Camila comments "ay, que lindo", Luz gives out a giggle and goes "Verdad?" which means "True", like she was saying "true, right", like!! It's like ikr for spanish basically. However, she looks sad right after, and so does Camila upon realizing Luz still feels bad. I think they probably cut this for time, really, as well as maybe they thought Luz wouldn't be in the mood to laugh at her mom reacting the same way she did when she first met King.

In the cleans, however, this scene is way more depressing. Camila still gushes over King like normal, but here, Luz's reaction is just sighing and giving an eerily blank looking dejected expression. My god girl. You are not doing well. And of course, Camila does get sad seeing her this way.

Minor change, Collector used to not say Archive House, just the Archives!

Another minor but fun change: Amity used to reply to Camila's question about the eyeballs being normal but not Collector, by going "Yeah, that's basically it."

Some pretty heartbreaking cut dialogue here as well, in both the roughs and cleans, after Hunter says they should follow Collector and King as Belos is probably trying to get back to the Collector, Willow points out they're flying too fast.

The roughs and cleans diverge here a bit, but Hunter's reaction is more or less similar.

In the roughs, Hunter goes "Flap would be able to-" before cutting himself off and storming off.

But in the cleans, this is made further more upsetting, as he says "Flap could-" then pauses for a moment, entirely silent, realizing what he just said. Then he announces "It's fine." and walks off, stating that "there's more than one way to find him."

I! Really mourn these losses! These are such neat little moments that solidify Hunter's grieving and I wish we could've kept them! I can only think they may have been cut for time, the crew felt they didn't need to add more, or they didn't want to rub it in.

Minor dialogue changes ahead, Gus doesn't say "it looked like they were playing a game", but specifically focuses on The Collector, saying it looked like (they) were playing pretend (hmmm, possible Gus role with the Collector foreshadow?) Similarly, Luz doesn't described it as a "messed up version" of her life, only HER life. Gus also doesn't refer to them as puppets in roughs and cleans, but rather as toys.

Before climbing up the debri to look at the Archives, Luz would say "The Archives..." dramatically, in both the roughs and cleans. Also, may just be the nature of the roughs being roughs, but in the rough storyboards the Archives look way more like a bunch of floating debri strung together rather than a full on circular castle.

And... that's it basically! Whew! That was... quite a lot as you can tell, just these two scenes had so much material they practically overshadow the sheer amount of content the first part of this little analysis project had.

Okay, so. Again, as the guy who usually goes cuckoo crazy theorizing on every little thing related to the Collector, this was a feast for me, and I'd be lying if I said I wasn't very intrigued by how much Collector's characterization -specially in relation to King- changed from the storyboards to the final product.

One thing you may have already clocked just from this is that The Collector and King used to seem much more like close friends, as well as there was less of an emphasis on Collector's loneliness and implied trauma rather than on the issue of trust between King and Collector- can they really call each other best friends if they don't take the steps to trust each other and be honest with each other?

Hell, there's even ANOTHER modified detail from the storyboards where King used to SMILE while beaming up with Collector after meeting Odalia.

So... what happened? Why did they change this? I've given you my reasons before but have been teasing one big theory all along, so I will say it now: I think they were pretty confident up to a certain point in diving into the themes of friendship and trust and telling the truth with Collector and King that I've already kinda identified as remaining in this episode, but that got kinda built up for the next episode, but then they realized "oh shit, we are barely touching on Collector's own trauma from being put in hardcore solitary for hundreds of years and having his psyche shattered into pieces from that we should probably. Focus on that huh."

And so was born a revised version of the episode that focused on King feeling a lot more general pity and sadness for the Collector, and the Collector in turn also being allowed to show more sadness that wasn't just related to not getting why his games are going wrong or why King won't let him talk to Eda. One where a more young and/or impressionable audience may be excused to think King didn't like Collector that much, but the twist is that he does, in fact he feels bad for them and relates to them.

Put simply, these earlier versions were nice, but they lacked the drive back to focus on the metanarrative Collector brings to the table of how terrible it is to punish a kid- or anyone- with extended solitary imprisonment, even if they did do bad things or are still doing them. And honestly, I'm still conflicted! I still like both of these a lot, I really think I would have enjoyed this earlier version with them being clearly besties maybe even more, but I also can't say I wouldn't have been frustrated if they never brought up Collector's trauma and issues ever again, specially after setting that up through Season 2B.

But well... I still will hold these storyboards near and dear to my heart, and I hope this post will reach many more people and spread the good word of the King and Collector endgame besties agenda being real!

[Chapter Four: I'm Back]

“Y/n? Yoo-hoo! You can come out now. Well, it's okay, she just broke, so I'll fix her.” The Collector says, he snaps his fingers but the spell dissipates

“What? Why isn't it working? The Archivists aren't here, they couldn't have taken her.” Belos aims another beat at the Collector. King suddenly roars and defends the Collector, conjuring a round shield with glyph patterns on it. His eyes have become purple and extra fangs have appeared in his jaw. A blue light glows in his mouth and tears flow down his face as he roars again. 

“Owl Lady, you know where my Y/n is, right?” He asks, looking at Eda, having only known [Y/n], for such a short amount of time already seemed to care for the young girl. But seeing, how upset Luz was, “Back up, kid. I don't think I can control myself right now.” Eda roars and grows in size and reverts to her original Owl Beast form. Her eyes have become orange and has extra sets of wings. Roaring again, she joins King and they attack Belos. King releases his power and they avoid the blasts. Terrified, The Collector trips, causing him to let go the star. 

“She's really gone.” The Collector says, looking down at the necklace in his hands, his sister was gone. 

A star floats into the In-Between Realm and settles into the water. From it, Y/n’s body reappears adn she sinks into the water. “I hope he’ll forgive me,” She thought, a hand grabs her arm and pulls her before she goes any further. 

“King?” She said, looking up at him, and he chuckles, “No. But he does get his good looks from me.” Papa Titan says, and she looks at him in shock. “Oh, Titan.” She says, sadly and he looks at her, “Oh, me. Nice to meet you, Y/n the Collector.” He says, looking at her and she looks at him. 

“Haven’t seen you since you trapped my brother and I here,” She said, looking up at him. “Dead-looking?” He said, and she looks at him, “Does that mean I'm also—” She asks, and he looks at her, “Ah, no, nope, no. Don't wanna do that. If you go under without a portal, you really will be dead-looking.” He says, and she looks down. 

“So you’re King's dad!” She says, looking at him, “I think King said it best once. "I am both King and Queen, best of both things." He says, and she smiled softly, as he chuckles, “But Dad works fine.” He says. 

“Even though I’m dead this is the last place I wanted to end up back in.” She said, sadly looking down. “About that.. Sorry.” He said, and she looked over at him and smiled, “It’s okay, you were protecting your child..But to be honest. I knew what my siblings were doing.” She said, looking down.

“That’s why they sent me down here with my sibling, and-” She shook her head, “Looking back if anyone deserved to be trapped here its me and not him.” She said, shaking her head. 

“Despite that, even though I want to mend my relationship with him. When I saw him fly up to Belos, I hoped with all my heart I would see them blast him away, and—” She sighs, looking down at her hands. She couldn’t believe what she was saying. 

Papa Titan looked at her sadly, “Hey, I can relate. I was willing to do anything to keep my kid safe. But I attacked the wrong people.” He said, and she looked at him, “Dragged you and the Collector down here for nothing.” He said, and she looked at him. 

“Does that make us as bad as Belos?” She asked, looking at him. 

“What? Have you been drinking Eda's homemade Apple Blood?” He said, and she looked away, “Well, Belos says he's trying to save humanity. And we are saying we want to save our families. So isn't that the same thing? Don't—Don't these feelings come from the same place?” She asked, looking at him. 

“You assume Belos's goal comes from a genuine place. But that man doesn't care about about anything but his need to be the hero in his own delusion. And because of that, he fears what he can't control.” He says, looking at her. “And now that fear is going to win.” She says, 

“Ah, dang.” He says, and she gaps as she sees Papa Titan’s chest is being affected by Belos’ possession. “I thought I had more time left. But Belos will have full control soon. You ready to stop him?” He asks, looking at her and she raises her eyebrow, “What? What can I do?” She askes, looking at him. 

“Think of it as an apology. So let me use my last bit of life to help you.” He says, as he extends his hand. On it, varius glyphs appear. “But if you do you’ll no longer be a collector.” he said. 

“Are you sure you wanna give this power to me?” She asks, looking at him, “Well, you're the one here, and you seem like a Collector.” He says, and she looks at him, “But I can't give you anything unless you choose to accept it. So the question is, will you choose yourself?” He asks, and she thinks for a moment, she’d be sacrificing her being a Collector living forever. But did she want that, to watch as the ones she’s grown to love  fade away Hunter, she sees him more than a friend? She didn’t want to lose him again. 

She takes his hand and a golden orb surrounds her. She starts to float up. “Now, Belos will be able to control everything, so you have to defeat him fast.” He says, and she looks down at him. She knew, King always wanted to learn about his father, “But-” She says, and looks down at him. 

“My power won't last forever, so use your time wisely.” He says, and she keeps floating up, “Oh, but what about -” She says, looking at him, “Eda the Owl Lady?’ He says, and salutes, “Send her my regards, big fan.” He says. 

She reaches out and holds on to Papa Titan’s claw to keep from being sent further upward, “No, King, what about King? Don't you wanna say something to him?” She asks, and he thinks for a moment, then whispers something in her ear. She’s excited by what she hears, “Oh. He'll love that.” She says, and chuckles, Papa Titan takes on his larger form and starts to sink into the water his body slowly sinks until it finally disappears. 

“Goodbye, Y/n.” He says. 

The Collector Room in the Archive, Camila begins to wake when Gus holds a light spell above her. Gus deactivates the light spell. He gasps, “She's waking up!” She says, and the others look at Camila. Gus helps her get to a sitting position as she repositions her glasses. “Wha—what's happening? Where's Luz and Y/n?” She asks, and everyone's facial all drop as she asks this. 

“Uh—” Gus says, Camila is now nervous. Meanwhile, everyone hears rumbling not far from them, and they all look to see the walls and ceiling begin to collapse. Amity tries to shield themself with abomination matter, but it does not take form and falls on top of her. 

“What's wrong with my magic?” Amity says, and Camila stands up and walks to Amity, “Can't you tell? You're exhausted. You all are! None of you have gotten rest in days.” Camilas says, and Willow looks at her. 

“But what can we do? We can't leave everyone like this.” Willow says, looking at everyone, “And what about Luz?” Hunter says, and Amity’s face saddens, “and Y//n?” Willow says, and Hunter’s face saddens as well. 

“Luz is a Noceda. You know what that means? It means she's way too stubborn to let any of this get her down.” Camila says, and puts her arm around Amity who blouses at the mention of Luz. 

Camila notices Hunter’s sad and worried expression, “Same for Y/n,” She says, looking at Hunter. Everyone looks at each other and smiles, knowing Camila is right. “They'll be okay.” She says, tears had welled up in her eyes. 

“In the meantime,” She wipes away her tears, “I think I know how we can help, even without your magic.” She says, smiling. 

Eda and King fight Belos’ monster form. They are still in a state of rage. As Eda and King, fight and Belos fires, The Collector hides alongside Luz. [Y/n]’s necklace is sent flying near them. He attempts to desolate the battle. “No, please stop! Run away!” He pleads, snapping his fingers but nothing happens.

“Why isn't anything working?” He says, and notices the moss growing onto his hands. “I don't want anyone else to go away. I don't want anyone else to go missing! I'm sorry for everything!” He starts crying and feels his face, noticing the tears. 

Luz looked at him sadly, “What is this stuff? Why-why won't it stop?” He cries, and then he notices the moss growing onto Eda’s claws, and he and Luz. Desperately brushes it off

“No! No, no, no, no! Get off of her!” He cried, and the Collector gets scared, when Belos prepares to crush them with his hand. He brings is hand down, but the beam of purple light deflects it. When the light clears, there is a gaping hole in Belos’ hand. A star shines through. A figure can be seen with an appearance similar to a titan. 

The fog clears revealing that it is [Y/n]. Eda, King, Luz, and The Collector are all in shock.“Huh? It can't be—” The Collector says, in shock, [Y/n] looks up at Belos in her new Titan Collector form, “I'm back!” She shouted, grinning. Eda, King, Luz, and The Collector all stare at her in awe and shock. 

She glares at Titan Belos, “Now, Belos..” She said, grinning mischievously, “Lets play a game!” She shouted, and Belos roars in anger. Causing everything to shake, inclusive the Archives. [Y/n] creates a glowing orb around her, King, Eda, Luz, and the Collector. It shoots up suddenly in erratic motions. “Oops, never had this much power before.” She said, sheepishly. 

Belos roars and the Archives shake precariously, “Oh no, everyone's still in the Archives.” Eda says, and The Collector looks up at her, “Leave them to me.” He says, he jumps onto his blue star and flies off. He notices the mold progressively getting worse.  

“Come on, you can at least do this.” He says, to himself. 

Eda, Luz, King, and [Y/n] travel to the stage below the Archives. The mold approaches quickly and takes form of monstrous faces. [Y/n] starts a spell, but struggles to make it. She’s never held this much power before especially not the Titan’s since his would always cancel her powers out since she was a collector. But Eda and Luz’s hand guides her. “Concentrate, think of what you want and—” Eda says, and the spell manifests into a large shield. The moss bounces off of it and curls upward. Luz, Eda, and [Y/n], push it forward and it eradicates the moss. Red grass takes over and shines the arena/ 

“Yes!” Luz chuckles, the moss appears on multiple sides, Y/n! On three! One—” King says, and she smiles. “Two!” [Y/n] says. “Weh!” [Y/n] and King shouted, they are able to get rid of most of the moss. The rest of it starts to engulf the roof of the arena. [Y/n] and King smile at each other. 

“Eda!” Luz shouts, and flies upwards on Stringbean with King in tow and indicates Eda to follow her and [Y/n]. [Y/n] smiles, and she spins creating a giant star that clears the entire area. THey notice a looming shadow adn realize the left arm of the Titan is rising. 

“Hold on.” [Y/n] says, and she flies up. 

In the Archives, Amity rescues Cat using a plant glyph as a giant rock falls above her, which Willow destroys with a fire glyph. Amity and Willow smile at each other. Camila continuously draws various glyphs and hands some off to Hunter. Gus is on his staff holding Amelia over hsi shoulder before a stray rock hits him and he falls. Gus uses a safety spell to gently fall and Hunter saves Gus’s palisman by using an ice glyph. 

Hunter carries Amelia away as Gus flies off with more glyphs in hand. Everything violently shoes again, causing the castle to lose its support at the Titan’s horn. They panic as they plummet, but pink strings manifest and hold it up. The Collector is seen straining to hold the structure up. The gang stares in shock as he smiles down at them.

“The Collector?” Hunter says, and his heart sinks for a moment seeing the Collector wearing [Y/n]’s necklace. “Is he—?” Willow says, looking up at him, “He's helping!” Gus says. 

[Y/n] looks down and sees where the magic is coming from, she flies down toward the heart of Titan. Rainewhispers caught in the moss. They are whistling their version of Eda’s Requiem in order to halt the moss’s growth. Their glasses have fallen off, and a purple beam of light can be seen. “Who's there? Stay away!” They struggles in the moss’s hold a hand and puts their glasses back on.

“It's okay Raine, I got ya.” Eda says, she pulls Raine out of the moss and hugs them.  

“I am— still not used to this new look, but it doesn't matter.” They said, as she kisses Raine while they embrace, “I'm just happy you're here.” They said, noticing [Y/n] standing next to Luz’ “How long was I out for?” They said, and [Y/n] looks down notices the Titan’s power starting to fade.

“We don't have much time. Let's end this.” Luz says. 

“Finally,” Raine says they clear a path to the throne room in the castle. They see Belos’ form in the heart and prepare for an onslaught. Luz and [Y/n], launch spells that destroy the upcoming branches of mold, then summon a set of ice stars and climb to the heart. They both grab Belos’ ribcage and start pulling. 

“You can't defeat me!” Belos shouted, a large number of hands manifest and attempt to hurt Luz and [Y/n]. Eda slices them up with her harpy magic. Raine whistles at the moss causing it to retreat. King releases his powers and helps to protect, Luz and [Y/n]. 

“Do not underestimate me, Belos. For I am the Good Witch Luz, Child of the Human Realm, Student of the Demon Realm, and Warrior of Peace!” Luz Shouted,

“Do not underestimate me, Belos. For I am the Collector Y/n, Child of the Stars,” Y/n shouted, her eyes glowing orange and various glyphs manifest around her hands. The Titan yells in agony and everything shakes again. The Collector struggles to hold up the Archives. Eda, Raine, and King continuously attack. 

“NOW EAT THIS, SUCKA!” [Y/n] and Luz shouted, as they successfully tore Belos out of the heart and everything falls silent as their screams echo into the silence. The monster Belos outside the heart screams in agony as its heart emits a flash of purple and blue and black lights and it explodes. The Titan’s hand is stabilized as a rush of energy runs through it. 

The Titan’s eyes lose color and turn off. Back in the castle, the monster turns to stone and eventually turns into dust. And is blown away along with the mold. Thus restoring the red grass across the isles. The Archives building is slowly lowered down to the Titan’s head. The pink strings disappear and a tired Collector flies to where Camila and the others are. The blue stars disappear as the moss around his hands slowly begins to fade away.

Amity steps closer as the Collector recoils in fear. Amity then offers her hand out to him. He takes it, and small tears form in his eyes. They all rush to the balcony as they stare in awe as the moss slowly clears up. Back at the castle, the molds also start to clear up one by one. Raine, Eda, and King burst out of the moss. King gasps for air as Rain and Eda look at each other as she smiles. 

[Y/n] is then standing in front of Belos’ goo form, which slowly turns into Philip. “Y/n— Y/n, I'm- I'm free. Thank goodness you saved me from-” Phillip pauses his speech as he sweats nervously, “From that horrible curse.” He says nervously. She just stared at him, with blankly stare. 

 “Yes, I-I was cursed with a terrible, terrible sickness, by— by dark magic,” He says, as he speaks, the sky slowly turns dark, signaling the fall of boiling rain. 

“It forced me to do all those horrible things, but-but now, I'm free.” He says, a drop of boiling rain falls and he screams in pain, the part where the rain touched him on the hand becoming green. Boiling ran starts to fall from the sky. 

“AH! Qui-Quickly, now!” he says, nervously she just stared at him as he crawls towards her begging, for his help. “Don't- Don't you want- to make peace - Y/n?” He asks, and she stares at him, she’d never forgive him never. Betraying her brother, manipulating others, possessing her, and hurting Hunter and her friends. 

He slowly reverts back to his goo form due to the boiling rain. Her expression remains unfazed, the rain turning to sparkles in her hair as the boiling rain does not affect her. “Don't just stand there!” He shouts, his body decomposing fully, she crawls towards her, “You'll be just as bad, just as conniving, just as evil, and just as unforgivable as those Archivists!” He says, and she stares at him as he holds onto her leg. 

“We're human. We're better than this!” He says, and she takes a step back. A scowling Rain, King, and Eda step in front of her as they handle Belos, the trio under the protection of the magical lead Raine had conjured. 

“Well, we ain't!” Eda says, angrily. The tri raise their feet and stimp Belos repeatedly, bringing him to his end. “That was extremely satisfying.” Raine says, looking over at Eda. “Ew, it's on my claws!” King groaned, Raine feels the sun outside and they shut down their leaf. A glowing light comes from behind them as [Y/n] glows adn floats, her power from the Titan finally released. The energy manifests into the form of the Titan, Rain, King, Luz, and Eda stare in shock. 

“Is that—” Raine says. 

“I think it is.” Eda says, and looks to King, “Dang kid, you do have tall genes.” She says, to him. 

King’s eyes sparkle in wonder as the manifestation of his father flies’s away. [Y/n] returned to her wolf costume. She opens her eyes, but realizing she doesn’t have powers anymore, she falls and screams. Eda and King, run up to catch her as the three lay on the ground side by side, panting. The clouds slowly start to reveal the sun shining as the three look on, their faces steady. 

“Oh! Your dad had a message for you.” She says, and whispers to King. “I— loaf you? I loaf you.” He chuckles, “Bread pun!” He exclaims, and everyone laughs. [Y/n] sits up and smiles looking at Luz, “Isn't it amazing? We did it. After everything, after all that— we stuck together.” Luz says, and [Y/n] looks at her and smiles, “Yup, we did alright.” Eda says.

“I'll say.” King says.

With Helena's encouragement, you leave the village to investigate the strange pulling you felt toward the forest. Aelon and his friends end up facing a peculiar problem.

Chapter 3

You dropped down the pile of wood into the stock. The wooden blocks clacked against each other while you brushed your hands from the wood dust and dirt. You looked up to Dwenn, who leisurely rocked on his chair and held his pipe in his hands, releasing small puffs of smoke. 

"Alright, that should be all. The floors are clean, the orders are ready to be delivered, and you have enough wood to warm up the house for a few days,” you said as you stepped beside him. 

"Thank you, (Name). I have nothing else for you to do, so you are free to go and spend the day as you like," Dwenn blew a pillar of smoke from his mouth before pulling the pipe between his lips. His once-injured eye now covered with an eyepatch. 

"Have you remembered to take your medicine for today?" you asked. 

Dwenn growled, slightly annoyed by the mention of his medicine. "I think I will be fine today without that nasty liquid in my body. I don't want to feel tired all the time," he complained, making you shake your head with a smile. "That medicine has helped you heal from your injuries, and do not forget that I've already allowed you to use your pipe against Eda's strict orders," you said with a scolding tone while handing him the medicine you carried on yourself, in case he forgot or ignored it on purpose. 

"Fine..." Dwenn grabbed the vial. He popped off the cork and drank the medicine with one gulp. 

Helena walked over to you with a positive attitude. "You're looking better every day, Dwenn," she stated. "Maybe a few more days, and you will be already running around like before," she added. 

"I hope so, Helena. Unless I fall asleep and never wake up since I already sleep so much." Dwenn replied with a dramatic tone. 

"Rest is good for you. Once you're all better, you can stay awake as long as you want," Helena said, then slipped her hand around your arm. 

"Can I rob (Name) for a moment?" Helena asked. 

"All the day's work has already been done. She's all yours," Dwenn waved his hand. "Great. Come along," Helena smiled, pulling you away before you could protest. 

You two then walked through the village. "What's on your mind today?" you questioned as the woman beside you was more energetic than usual. 

"I just need someone to complain to and share certain rumors," Helena grinned. 

"I've heard from my father that orcs have been appearing in these parts more frequently, sometimes even in packs," she began. "According to my father, they've been behaving strangely. All he could discern was that the orcs seem to be searching for something," she explained, gaining your interest. 

"What could they be looking for?" you asked. 

"No one knows yet. All we know is that they are looking for something here. It started happening a month after Aelon and Samuel’s return, along with the well’s water,” Helena answered as your attention drifted toward the forest, the strange feeling from yesterday coming back. 

You do not know why, but you have been bothered by the strange sensation since you returned from your trip to the town. It was like a pestering call. 

"I have also seen Ennard looking at me strangely again. I hope he's not up to swooning me again, as he likes to call it," Helena said with a tone of annoyance. "When will he understand that I am not interested in him? He's just as old as my father," she added as you continued looking toward the forest.

"I have also heard that Mr.Figwitt's pet turtle has gone missing again. I wonder what's that about," she said as you two arrived at your house. She then notices your absent attention and sees you staring at the forest. 

"(Name)! Are you there?!" she waved her hand in front of your eyes, startling you for a moment. 

"Sorry..." you quickly uttered as you turned your gaze back on her. 

"Is there something bothering you today? You have been rather distracted lately," Helena asked, crossing her arms. 

"No! It's just…” you tried to think of a way to explain it. “I've been having this odd feeling since yesterday, like... I have a strange urge to go out and find what is causing that feeling," you described. 

"Now, that is interesting. Maybe you should go there and find it," Helena suggested. "I... don't know if I should," you hesitated. 

"You're not doing anything for the day. If it's Aelon you're worried about, I could watch him," Helena offered, pointing at herself.

"Okay... alright. Are you sure about this?" you asked, slightly dumbfounded.

"Yes! What's the worst that could happen? Now go!" she pushed you toward the village.

"Okay… I might as well go buy the duck I forgot," you said, turning toward your house, where you could hear Aelon practicing in the backyard.

"Aelon!" you called out. 

"Yeah!" his voice called back. 

"I'm leaving to get some duck! Helena will watch over you!" You yelled. 

"Okay!" Aelon yelled and continued his training. 

"Make sure he doesn't get in trouble," you said, glancing at Helena, who only grinned in return. “Yeah, yeah, now go find the source of that mystery feeling,” she added as you walked away.

Aelon practiced hard with his training sword, focusing on his movements and footwork while trying not to let anything distract him. Beads of sweat formed on his skin as he slashed through the air, maintaining controlled and steady breathing.

His ears then picked up someone running around his house. 

"Hey, Ae!" Eweniel called out in a hurry. "Rodrick asked us to meet," she exclaimed. "Why? What's wrong?" Aelon asked, stopping in his tracks. "I don't know, but he said it was an emergency. Come on!" she said hastily. 

Aelon's eyes widened. He dropped his training sword and followed Eweniel as the two ran around his house. 

"Where are you two going?" Helena questioned when she saw them. She was sitting on the porch, doing stitching. 

"To see Rodrick. Can I go?" Aelon asked. 

"Sure. Just stay in sight of people and stay out of trouble. Your sister won't be happy if you do," Helena pointed at him. 

"I will, thanks!" Aelon replied as he ran off with Eweniel. Helena only shook her head with a smile as she continued stitching the cloth in her hands. 

The two arrived at the tree, where they usually met to play or plan pranks together. Rodrick, along with Ramuel and Samuel, were waiting there. Rodrick bore a panicked expression, pacing back and forth while fumbling his thumbs—something he did when he was nervous or scared.

"What's the matter? What happened?" Aelon asked as he arrived with Eweniel. 

"Thank the Eru! You're here!" Rodrick said with relief. "Okay... umm... have you guys heard about Greeny going missing?" he asked. "Mr. Figwitt's pet?" Ramuel questioned with a confused tone. "Yeah. Greeny— she went missing, and Mr. Figwitt is not happy about it," Rodrick nervously said. "Alright... and why are you so worried about it?" Aelon questioned with a frown. 

"I might be responsible... why she's gone missing," Rodrick answered. "And Mr. Figwitt doesn't know it yet," he added, and his friends groaned and yelled in surprise. 

"No wonder you called it an emergency. Mr. Figwitt will eat you alive if he finds out you lost his pet turtle," Eweniel remarked. 

"I know! I need your help to find her!" Rodrick said, flinging his arms like a panicked bird. 

Aelon and his friends remained quiet, thinking about the situation. Personally, Aelon would stay away from Greeny since the little monstrosity had bitten him since the first time he saw it, but he did not want to leave his friend at the mercy of Figwitt, who was known to dislike children. He was a grumpy old man, who looked closest to a feral goblin if Aelon ever came to see one. And the only thing that ever made him happy was his pet turtle, who was just as mean as him. 

"Okay... I help you," Aelon sighed, dropping his shoulders. 

"Really? Oh, thank you, Aelon! You are a real friend!" Rodrick cried tears of joy. 

"Whoa, you're brave! I thought you were scared of Greeny?" Eweniel grinned. " I am, but I am more afraid of Figwitt, and it would be pretty cruel to leave Rodrick under his mercy," Aelon said. 

"Alright. I guess I'll help too," Eweniel said. 

"We would help too, but..." Samuel hesitated, glancing nervously at Ramuel.

"Our parents said we need an adult if we want to go anywhere," Ramuel explained, looking at the ground.

"But then they would probably tell Figwitt if they knew I lost Greeny," Rodrick said fearfully.

An idea then popped into Aelon’s head: a possible solution. 

"We could ask Helena. She's supposed to watch me and she likes keeping secrets," he suggested. "Okay. She should be fine," the twins said. 

"Alright, let's go," Eweniel declared as the group left their meeting place to find the missing turtle. 

After leaving the village and traveling some distance, your horse whined as you came to a stop.

You stared at the forest on the spot where you first started feeling the strange sensation to follow and find. The mysterious pull of the forest intensified, its call growing stronger the longer you fixed your gaze upon the wooded expanse. The enchanting allure beckoned you with an irresistible potency, tugging at the threads of your curiosity.

Climbing down from your horse, you secured the reins to the nearest tree, ensuring your companion would wait patiently behind while you went to investigate the forest.

As you wandered deeper into the forest, the strange pulling tugged you toward the direction it wanted you to go. 

You arrived at a rugged stone hill. As the pulling told you to climb,  you cautiously stepped over the rocks, ascending higher till you began to hear scratching and chirping sounds, piquing your curiosity. 

As you scale the uneven rocks, the source of the commotion becomes clear as your eyes fall upon a large nest. Your eyes widen in a mixture of shock, surprise, and excitement. "Oh, hello—" you begin to say as the small eyes focus on you.

Okay, considering you’re the only one who sent an ask (and I got my laptop back), I’m gonna give you a two for one deal.

People familiar with my Transformers OCs will recognize Flinch, and the newer ones will, hopefully, have a vague awareness of my FF7 OC Valerian.

Flinch! MA BOY! (Going with the Unicron Trilogy -mainly Armada- here)

🩹 - Someone who was a source of trauma

Fucking Unicron.

Like, seriously, not only did that fucker possess him, but he also left him mentally scared enough, that Flinch lost some of his happy-go-lucky demeanour. Growing more paranoid and scared as the story progressed, until he refused to recharge all together.

Adding to that, Flinch also secluded himself from his family by shutting himself into his room or staying out for longer than usual.

He did get better, yes, and regained some of his happy-go-lucky personality, but by the time Cybertron rolls around, my boy’s having the worst of times again.  

🗑️ - "It's complicated"

His dad.

Flinch has a very complicated relationship with his dad. Not because Primus is the god of all Cybertronians, and all that jazz, but rather because he has been absent for most of Flinch’s live and he doesn’t know how to deal with that. Like, it’s great that he gets to know something about his actual parents, but why does it have to be mech that’s not only God, but also the planet they live on?

Primus sure enough causes Flinch some kind of existential crisis.

💎 - Chosen family (including warband)

The Minicon pair that adopted Flinch, when they stumbled upon him, and all the other Minicons they found on their way through the galaxy.

They might be all broken from the war they were forced to fight in, and try to hide their more evil deeds from the sunshine that’s Flinch, but damn it all, if they aren’t a good family.

Also, It’s pretty much a fact that @tachyon-omlette's Eda didn’t have a choice, when Flinch decided that he was prime Dad-Material. Eda might not see it, but Flinch wouldn’t trade him for anything in the world/galaxy. (If the topic of custody would ever come up, Flinch would choose Eda over Primus any time.)

🩹 - Someone who was a source of trauma

I want to say the scientist who made him, but IV was a bigger source of trauma than them.

I went more into detail in that story I wrote, but IV’s presumed death at the hands of some unknown foe/the facility staff left Valerian traumatized to a point, where he even avoided the single though of dreaming about the outside world.

After all, IV dreamed of what was behind the walls they knew, and when he was taken outside, he never returned. And despite Valerian’s memories of his brother being good ones, him never coming back made them bitter. To a point, where he can’t even fall asleep without holding something to ground him.

🗑️ - "It's complicated"

I am tempted to say, “Everyone he meets”.

Valerian spent too much time isolated from humans that weren’t facility staff/scientist, so, meeting people who aren’t out to harm him is a little weird, dare I say scary in some strange way.

Like, he knows that they aren’t going to hurt him, as long as he doesn’t give them a reason to, but at the same time, kindness is rare. Especially in grown-ups that glare at you, whenever you try to carefully walk around them, or yell at you for getting into their way.

He will get better over time, especially when he finds people who care about him, but strangers will always make him feel complicated.

Another person would be his father/the person he calls “DNA-Donor”. Valerian is still young and has spend most of his freedom traveling with a robot cat, before living with his creator. So, meeting the man who’s DNA was used to create him awakens many complicated feelings. Especially in the “Do I call him dad, or not? He never really showed any signs of caring for me…” side of things. It’s definitely something he and Vincent have to work on. But hey! Valerian’s around 14 when they meet, so, they have the rest of their lives to do so!

💎 - Chosen family (including warband)

The Cait Sith that found Valerian in his cell/room, and Reeve. No fighting over that.

Cait was the first person/robot, who wasn’t IV, that ever showed compassion towards Valerian, and the boy grew attached. I mean, why else would he follow the cat over all of Gaia like a lost chocobo-chick? That’s both his emotional support robo-cat and his caretaker.

Reeve came later, when both showed up on his doorsteps. Drenched by rain and muddied from a tumble down a cliff. They haven’t left ever since.

Every single way Luz Noceda and Movie Sonic are similar (and why i think they should be besties)

These two are genuinely my moods, my kins, and my children and i actually do think they would be besties and its all gonna make sense in a minute i swear. Do be warned that this may be incoherent cuz I am like that, and that some things might’ve been said wrong. The elaborations are in no particular order and some explanations may be longer than others. ALSO this contains spoilers for both The Owl House and the Sonic Movies so if you haven’t watched one or both of em please do so when you can and come back to this. anyways Here we go:

Both resemble the archetype of a bubbly and kindhearted goofball of a protagonist that can be naive and/or impulsive at times during the time they first debuted

^^^ As they get older and as their stories progress, they start to mature and learn from what they experienced on their adventures

Both have dealt with a form of parental loss during an early part of their childhood ( Manny Noceda for Luz, and Longclaw for Sonic )

Both use escapism methods as coping mechanisms to compensate for their traumatizing childhood

( Luz indulges in TGWA books or fiction in general, and it’s implied she also does amvs and art, which can be interpreted as both hobbies and stress relievers. As for Sonic, he indulges in comic books like The Flash and pretends to be a part of Tom and Maddie’s family so he doesn’t feel so alone )

Both children were alone for a majority of their life and didn’t have any real friends until they found them in different worlds ( In the Boiling Isles, Luz ends up finding Eda, King, Gus, Willow and eventually, Amity. On Earth, Sonic ends up finding Tom and Maddie Wachowski, b4 meeting Tails and Knuckles later down the line )

Both strive to feel appreciated and accepted, and they execute it in similar ways

( Luz making grand gestures and extreme antics [like the snakes and the spiders in ep 1] to try and impress her classmates and Sonic trying to be a hero to make Longclaw proud, and to possibly gain acceptance from other humans )

^^^ As a result, both of their methods are seen as reckless and dangerous

Anyways back to the show:

Both pin the blame on themselves for things that weren’t their fault, and push themsleves to right what they believe they did wrong… by rushing into immediate danger ( can also be seen as some form of people pleasing behavior )

Both of them also refuse to accept any sort of help from the people who care about them

^^^ When Eda got captured trying to save Luz near the end of season 1, Luz’s plan was to straight up rescue her while being fully aware of the risks. This repeats again in season 2, episode 1 with the entire premise of the episode being that luz feels like a burden and is the cause of Eda losing her magic and everyone in the owl house financially struggling. Going all out to fight a selkiedomus in order to free Eda and king.

While Eda talks to Luz about it, the behavior doesn’t stop. Carrying over to Hollow Mind, and the episodes after that. If you know what happened in Hollow Mind, we’d know that Luz is now adamant on stopping Belos and the Day of Unity. While still being aware of the risks, she believes that she’s the sole reason for the Day of Unity happening, therefore she continued to risk her life in order to save others

“Because you stuck with me you lost your magic, you almost got turned to stone, and now you can’t even afford your apple blood because you’re worried about what I need to eat.” - Separate Tides

“I am NOT hiding, I’m going to stop Belos from completing the draining spell.” - O Titan, Where Art Thou

In the second act of sonic movie 2, Tails gets knocked unconscious by Robotnik and Sonic narrowly saves him in the nick of time b4 an avalanche could envelope them. Near the beginning of the movie, during the boat scene, the blue blur had a talk with Tom about how being a hero meant to take responsibility for other people. As Sonic accidentally caused chaos in Seattle for trying to stop a robbery and be a hero. It’s also implied that this has been happening more than once. One of the things Tom said to Sonic was, “You put people in danger and that’s not what a hero does.”

^^^ This statement indirectly affected Sonic’s way of thinking. While said with good intentions, as a result of what happened to Tails, Sonic believes that he needs to make up for what he did wrong by pursuing Knuckles and Robotnik for the master emerald. Thus, he thinks he’s automatically no longer a hero once a new friend of his almost died

( It should be worth mentioning that there was some visible regret in Tom’s face when he realized that he made sonic think that way. It’s also possible that Sonic blames himself for Longclaw’s death, the first movie also explicitly states that Sonic’s number one fear is hurting people because of being himself. Making the boat scene, what Tom said, AND what Sonic says next, extremely deep and depressing )

“You see that little fox over there? He came all the way across the universe to meet his hero, and what did his hero do? I practically got him killed! You were right, my moment came, and I blew it. I’m no hero.”

Key takeaways of these moments is that this is the kind of mindset both these kids have is somewhere along the lines of, “I accidentally made a mistake = Everything is my fault and I should take the blame and all responsibility for it no matter what other people tell me.”

^^^ This kind of thinking is reminiscent to people pleasing behavior and is v self-destructive. While Luz is undoubtedly a people pleaser, Sonic seems to be more of a subtle kind of people pleaser

Both kids may be afraid of rejection and/or abandonment due to past trauma

Both kids were forced to be sent away at some point in their childhood. The reasons and the circumstances differ, but the incidents were similar. In the end, it resulted in both Sonic and Luz not liking the idea of being sent away, even if it’s for their own safety

Both kids feel the need to become something or someone else in order to feel accepted by other people ( Luz wanting to become a witch in season 1 and Sonic wanting to become a hero in sonic movie 2 )

Both kids were forced into thinking that they are the problem or that they are a burden and danger to everybody around them. Just because they are being themselves.

^^^ Thus, they think that the solution is for them to either leave permanently or to never exist at all ( Luz initially planned to stay in the human realm and was vocal about her possible suicidal thoughts. Sonic planned on leaving Earth because that’s what Longclaw told him to do and he believed he would cause harm the longer he stays )

^^^ Luz says, “Who cares, about the RIPPLE effects? He was just a pawn in someone else’s game! A-And he was NEVER smart enough to realize it! If his friends and family knew about his existence… they’d know that their lives wouldn’t be in danger if it weren’t for HIM! They should hate his guts! And it would be better— if he literally, never EXISTED!” - Season 3, Thanks To Them

^^^ Sonic says, “I don’t wanna go, but I can’t stay. As long as I’m here, I put everyone in danger… I can’t do that.” - Sonic The Hedgehog 1

They’re both ridiculously selfless to the point where they won’t hesitate to sacrifice themselves under any sorr of circumstances

In the season 2 finale, King’s Tide, as the Boiling Isles is torn apart by the Collector, Luz intended to leave herself behind to keep the portal open with plant glyphs so Amity, Gus, Willow and Hunter can go through to the human realm. Luz also wanted to go find Eda, instead of heading for safety

On the other hand, during the final battle with Robotnik, Sonic wanted Tom and Maddie to get away from him in exchange for THEIR safety because he knows what Robotnik wants. It’s also possible that Sonic wants the Wachowski’s to get away from him because he can’t handle the idea of them dying because of him. The same way Longclaw did all those years ago

What both of these scenes have in common is that there’s this whole thing with families trying to stick together and the kids trying to participate in altruistic sacrifice. Which is very dark imo

Ultimately, the core of both of their stories and characters is that they both long to be understood and accepted by the people around them

OKAY— so i believe im done here, but there’s definitely more and i just forgor about it, and that there are some parts that are missing or i havent explained thoroughly. And it is getting late and this thing has been sitting in my drafts and i wanted to get this posted. But i do believe that these characters would get along super well, as they both have the similar demeanors and similar stories. (Insert that one barbie song /jjj) If these two met, they would either ramble, read each others comics, or commit crimes together /hj. I gave no doubt that ever met, their friendship would be instantaneous and strong. Anyways, imma head to bed, you guys can do whatever you want with rhe info i provided. Nighty night
