Hello, average Tumblr user, I'm Brisa, and I'm here to bring you a non-sophisticated piece of writing.
Personally, I like to write, and today while I was rereading some of those short writings, I decided I wanted to share one with you.
I want to emphasize that I am using a translator because I personally do not speak or write English, and any corrections or recommendations are welcome. Thank you for your time
Hunter x fm!reader
Summary: Hunter and Y/N go through another miscarriage.
All characters are aged
Warnings: miscarriage, guilt, angst.
"So...what's going on?" Eda leaned on the island counter on her elbows, looking at Hunter.
"Pffft, What? Nothing happens" Hunter smiled fakely.
"Kid, I raised many children, I raised Y/N, King, I took care of Luz and you. Do you think I can't tell when someone lies to me? Plus...it shows in your eyes..." Eda grimaced a little and looked at Hunter waiting for a response. The grimwalker just looked at the table, sighed, took a quick look at the kitchen entrance, as Luz and the children were laughing in the living room, then he looked back at the counter and murmured in a low voice.
"It happened again." They were silent for a moment, Eda didn't understand what Hunter meant.
"The reason Y/N called you was because she was in the hospital" Hunter looked up and looked Eda in the eyes, then the truth hit her.
"Another miscarriage right?" Hunter nodded.
“Where is Y/N? Is she still in the hospital?" Eda asked worried.
"She said she wanted time alone. She...was blaming herself again." Hunter sighed heavily. "She even blamed herself for leaving before you answered the call."
"Ah...shit..." Eda looked down and then looked up at Hunter, who was looking at the counter with his fingers tangled in his hair. The old lady looked worried at the man and walked up to his side.
"Hunter, what's wrong?" Hunter shook his head and sighed, shakily.
"Nothing...nothing" The blonde ran his hands over his face and rested his fists against his mouth, biting them.
"Kiddo…" Hunter shook his head again, this time with tears in his eyes and pursing his lips.
"It's okay...tell me what's wrong..." Eda rubbed the boy's back.
"I...can't...i dunno...i dunno"
"Hunter, you should talk to Y/N about it, you know she would listen to you, if you te..."
"No, no, i can't...i can't tell her..." Hunter interrupted Eda, while covering his face. "I always thought about being a father, I never imagined going this far...two children, and the idea of having more, I like it, but... I don't want to continue going through this. Seeing her like this, it hurts me, it hurts me every time it happens, I don't know if I can continue and now... Another one..." Hunter shook his head, crying.
"Titan, we can't continue like this, but I don't know how to avoid it either, because...if another one comes, It could survive, but It also don't... And i don't know what to do Eda, I don't know." Eda looked sadly at the brown-eyed man, she didn't know what to do either, the only thing she could think of was to offer him a hug, which Hunter accepted. Eda rubbed the blonde's back, while Hunter released the crying and pain he had kept inside him, not just the one now, no, he released the pain he had been accumulating since the first miscarriage.
The one where both, Y/N and Hunter, discovered that their chances of having children were lower than those of a normal couple.
"Listen, kid, it's not okay for you to keep everything bottled up, I understand that you just want to stay stable, as support for Y/N, but you also have the right to feel, okay?" Eda tried to reason with Hunter, and he could only nod, unable to say a word.
--------------------------------------------------
So...What do you think? Please let me know if you like it. I know Y/N isn't actually in it but I just wanted to share it because it's actually a scene from my oc, but that's not important.

Starving - Hunter Shy! Fem! Human! Reader
T/w: Mildly suggestive?? Idunno they kinda french kiss… for a bit... They cuddle on a bed. He leaves love bites. I’m sorry
Request By: WinterBlue_Angel22
Prompt: Hi! ✨️ Can I request a fluffy long oneshot with prompts: "Um, H-hunter, d-do you w-want to m-makeout with m-me?", "W-what? A-are y-you s-sure, Y/n?", [French kisses where they trace every tooth with their tongues as though trying to memorize them.], [Tucking his hands beneath his shy!female!human!reader's shirt, just to watch she breaks the kiss and gasp in surprise at the sensation of his warm hands on her skin.] and "W-wow, that is so a-amazing, H-hunter." about Hunter and his shy!female!human!reader are having our first makeout session together on bed in guest room at Luz's house on Human Realm when everyone was gone for movie night? What kind of reaction Hunter has when she shyly asked him to want our first makeout session with her? 🤭 I bet he will be shy blushing mess to it, haha. 😂 Hint#1: suggestive moments ⚠️: french kisses and hickey. Hint#2: She gets makeout idea from Luz and Amity. 🤣 At end, Hunter angrily chases to catch Luz and Amity around Luz's house for corrupting his shy human girlfriend's innocence. 🤣 I really live for flustered Hunter! 💗 Please??
Hunter and his girlfriend had stayed home at Camila’s while everyone else had gone out to watch a movie. Hunter, however, preferred to stay home to watch a movie. This way he wouldn’t be bothering anyone with his reactions of sudden excitement, fear, or random theories and predictions. (Y/N) didn’t mind any of this though; she loved hearing him.
The two decided to watch a movie together on the couch instead. They picked one out called the Megamind. The couple cuddled together on the couch as the movie played on.
Hunter and his friends had been in the Human Realm for several months. He enjoyed it there. At first, he was scared about what would happen next. Everything had happened to suddenly. He was horrified of the thought that his friend would find out if he was a Grimwalker. Things had gotten better, however, when he met (Y/N). He found her on one of the group’s outings to discover more about the human realm.
He looked down at her curled up form and pulled her closer. He remembered how time stopped when he saw her at the park. And then he saw her again at a store, then almost a dozen times everywhere, and then at the park again where Luz finally convinced him to talk to her; that was when it all started. Hunter had always been slightly awkward around others, especially since he never interacted with witches his age until he met Luz and her friends. Now, he had a human girlfriend! He never thought much about it, but sometimes he wondered what would happen once they found a way back into the Demon Realm.
After being about halfway through the movie, he noticed (Y/N) was getting a bit cuddlier. Hunter smiled to himself and he pulled her closer. After a few moments, (Y/N) broke the silence, “Um, H-hunter?” He turned to look down at her again. Her face had gained a deep blush and he smiled, “Yeah?” he asked sweetly. She hid her face in his arm. “D-do you w-want to m-make out with m-me?” she stammered shyly. Hunter blushed madly, “W-what?!” He squeaked, feeling the red burning in his ears. He had never kissed (Y/N) before. He already found that cuddling was a big jump- he hadn’t ever thought that she’d ask to make out!
Hunter’s face was a deep crimson, and he shuffled around shyly on the couch; she wanted to kiss him! He turned away nervously, feeling his heart race: he could hear it throbbing in his ears. He exhaled shyly and danced his fingers over his leg.
He finally stirred up the courage to speak again and looked at her, “A-are y-you s-sure, (Y/N)?” He asked shyly. He felt a knot in his throat: he had never had an intimate relationship with anyone. What was he going to do?
“Mhm,” she hummed. Hunter felt his heart skip a few dozen beats. His ears bent backwards and he bit his lip, Oh my Titan, what do I do?!
“Oh,” He murmured gently, feeling her nuzzle his arm. His mind was racing and so was his heart. Hunter looked away shyly and shifted around on the couch. He pulled his legs up and curled them around (Y/N). He had no idea where to start.
He shifted again, making (Y/N) sit up while he did so. He locked eyes with her for a split moment, but he hastily looked away again. After another few moments, he curled his hands into fists as if he was ready to face a fight, and let out a breath.
“O-ok!” Hunter said, smiling. He was excited, but more so nervous. He didn’t think he even understood the concept of a romantic relationship yet. “Really?!” (Y/N) exclaimed, jumping up with delight. Hunter nodded shyly, his ears bending back and turning red.
(Y/N) giggled happily and embraced Hunter, pecking his cheek as she did so. Hunter’s eyes widened and he blushed madly, his light skin darkening into a deep red. He wrapped his arms around (Y/N) slowly, nervously, pulling her closer to him.
She pulled away from the peck and smiled at him. Hunter felt his heart melt and his entire body relax. His gaze softened as he stared at (Y/N)’s deep pools of (e/c).
Hunter leaned down and pecked her lips lightly, feeling a sudden wave of nervousness and excitement wash over him. A blush ran ablaze across his face from ear to ear. He pulled back hastily and looked away shyly, and (Y/N) did the same.
“I-I’m sorry, (Y/N),” he squeaked bashfully, “um… I’m- I’m just nervous…” he hugged his arms nervously.
“It’s OK,” (Y/N) reassured him softly, “We don’t have to if you don’t want to, Hunter.”
He froze for a moment, feeling his heart sink as he realized. No one had ever offered him to not do something. He had always been demanded and expected to do as told. Hunter sighed; he wanted to. He wanted to do so much with (Y/N) but he was too nervous. He was surprised he had even been able to ask her to be his girlfriend.
“No, it’s-” He stammered nervously, “It’s n-not that I don’t want too…” He blushed madly, visible nervousness on his face. “I…” Hunter hesitated, then sighed, “I just… I don’t know how!” He finally confessed, locking eyes with her. His eyes were sad and full of worry. His ears had bent back in shame.
“Oh, Hunter,” (Y/N) soothed gently and placed her hand over his. “Don’t worry,” she said gently. “I… I-I can… show you…” She offered, blushing deeply. Hunter looked away for a moment, but looked back and nodded shyly. He almost looked like a sad puppy!
She smiled at him, “OK…” She exhaled, “Ready?” He smiled and nodded sheepishly. “OK, let’s try again.”
She pressed her lips against Hunter’s, closing her eyes. Hunter flinched slightly, and his pointed ears bent back again. He froze, feeling the warmth of (Y/N)’s lips against his. Slowly, he closed his eyes and melted into the kiss.
(Y/N) pulled away smiling at him; the two were a blushing mess. They began pecking each other randomly, shyly kissing each other’s faces and lips. Every time Hunter pecked (Y/N), she blushed a bit more, feeling a thousand butterflies fluttering throughout her body.
Hunter then sat again, and shifted himself towards (Y/N). He sat down, crossing his legs on the couch. Slowly he leaned towards her again and pecked her lightly. Hunter didn’t fully pull away, he stayed close enough to keep kissing her gently.
Finally, Hunter’s hands slowly went up to her, and he cupped each of her cheeks. He pulled her towards him, and he kissed her for a long time
Hunter pressed his lips against hers, almost as if he wanted to taste her. This was everything he never knew he wanted. He had never felt the warmth of someone else, he had never felt loved or wanted. All he had ever been was useful to Belos. Not anymore though; he didn’t care if he was useful anymore. Now he felt loved and he knew what he wanted: Hunter wanted to be with (Y/N).
He pulled her closer, deepening the kiss as he did so. Hunter began to feel the starvation take control of him, it was in every bit of his body. He didn’t understand what it was but he knew how to satisfy the intense hunger his heart felt: every time he pulled her closer a bit of the starvation lessened.
Hunter pulled her even closer to him. He kissed her amorously and (Y/N) kissed back. Suddenly, he felt (Y/N)’s hands curling around his wrists. Her gentle fingers wrapped around him and pulled him closer to her. Hunter melted again. His face was hot, his mind was racing, and his heart was both racing and melting.
(Y/N) then pressed her lips against his even more. She tilted her head and deepened the kiss. She wanted to get a taste of Hunter. She then bit his lip lightly and he froze for a moment in surprise. He had… liked it. It was like she wanted him close too.
Although they had kissed for a while, Hunter was still nervous about how to continue. Suddenly, he felt (Y/N) part her lip slightly. The warmth of her tongue surprised him yet also soothed him in way. Her tongue began to trace every bit of his mouth, and he followed. They kissed each other passionately as if desperately trying to remember one another.
The two finally pulled apart and were a blushing mess. Hunter looked over to see the credits playing on the TV screen, then he looked over to the front door. He swung his feet over the couch and stood up. He blushed lightly at the idea but continued anyway.
“C’mon,” He said, picking up (Y/N) bridal-style, “Let’s go somewhere more private.”
(Y/N) blushed madly but giggled, “H-Hunter!” She said smiling. (Y/N) hid her face in his chest as he carried her up the stairs and into the guest bedroom. Hunter laid her next to him on the bed and began pecking her face and kissing her softly again. Between the kisses Hunter would nuzzle her lightly making (Y/N) smile. She wrapped her arms around Hunter and kept him close to her.
Hunter kissed her passionately again and again. He slipped his hands under her shirt, feeling (Y/N)’s back as he did so; her skin was soft and warm. (Y/N) gasped suddenly, breaking the kiss and pulling away.
“H-Hunter!!” She squeaked, pulling her shoulders in slightly as if she was trying to hide. He laughed lightly to himself, looking at (Y/N) and pecking her cheeks. Hunter smiled, he had no idea how wonderful loving and being loved could feel.
Hunter started to cuddle her. He didn’t even know what he was doing. All he knew was that he wanted to feel close to her. He began to kiss her jawline and slowly make his way down her neck. Hunter nuzzled her lightly, wanting to hide away in her soft skin.
(Y/N) smiled shyly as Hunter went on. She gasped suddenly when she felt a little nip on her neck, and then another, and another…
“H… Hunter…” She stammered softly, “Sweetheart, what are you up to?” Hunter smiled for a moment, but stopped hastily.
“Oh uh…” His ears pulled back suddenly as fear took over his heart. Had he done something wrong? “I-I,” He blushed in shame, “I... I’m s-sorry (Y/N)...” He began to lift himself onto his side. “Did… did you… like that?” He felt his heart race unsteadily. Maybe Belos wasn’t the only one who didn’t want him anymore…
“Mhm,” She hummed gently. She pulled him back in even closer and Hunter felt himself melt. He melted anytime (Y/N) had made him feel wanted.
He smiled, kissing her passionately this time. “Well, I guess I’ll continue then.”
(Y/N) laughed, “Hunter! You’re so sweet!” Hunter smiled at her. He nuzzled her again and continued leaving little love bites all over her neck.
The two cuddled for a while. Suddenly, a thought broke Hunter out of the moment.
“Hey, uh, (Y/N),” he asked, his focus intently on nothing.
Yeah?” She hummed.
“Ummm…” Hunter frowned slightly in thought, trying to think of a way he could ask. He knew (Y/N) well enough to know she was quite innocent and sweet. “How… uh… why, I guess, did you think of… making out?” He squeaked the last few words.
(Y/N) blushed, her eyes opened and she hid into Hunter. “Um… I accidentally… maybe… walked into Luz and Amity??” She replied nervously.
“Huh.” He said, pulling (Y/N) closer. “Good to know…”
He hid into her chest, “(Y/N)?” he nervously called her name.
She smiled. His voice and been soft and full of nervousness. She knew he needed comfort and spoke gently, “Yes, Dear?” He melted in her arms. Hunter bit his lip for a moment.
“I-I… I love you…”
She kissed his forehead gently, “I love you, Hunter.” He felt ease in his heart, and a sudden completion of his soul. This was what he had been starved from: (Y/N)’s love.

After a while of cuddling, the two finally heard everyone coming back. They made their way downstairs and towards the front door to greet them. Hunter, however, had something else in mind. He was quite flustered and ready to face it.
As everyone made their way into the house, Hunter looked for Luz and Amity. Everyone was talking about the movie they had watched and how great it was. Guz and Willow were visibly excited to have experienced a ‘Human Movie’.
Hunter finally spotted them. “LUZ! AMITY!” He called out to them sternly. The two girls froze and stared at him in silence.
“Um…” Luz broke the silence, “What is it?” She stared at him and (Y/N).
“(Y/N) told me she got a little idea from you too…” He glared at them with arms crossed. “She said you two were ‘making out’ in front of her… Care to explain?”
They both blushed madly, and Luz was the first to speak. “How much did you see?!” (Y/N) blushed again, looking away.
“Um… a… a bit…?” She murmured, unsure of what to say.
Hunter ran at the girls, “YOU TWO CORRUPTED HER!”
“AGH!” The two shouted in unison. Luz grabbed Amity’s hand and dragged her with her. They ran around the couch, into the kitchen, all over the first floor trying to escape Hunter.
“Niños! Calmense, por favor!" Camila begged them to stop and calm down. It was utterly useless. Hunter was determined to get them.
Everyone else laughed at them. (Y/N) watched Hunter and smiled to herself. If he was willing to protect her innocence, he was willing to protect her from any harm. She blushed lightly and laughed. This is gonna be a long night.

This was surprisingly difficult to get through. It took me a whole week to finish it. Huh. Well, thank you all for reading and thank you WinterBlue_Angel22 (Wattpad) for requesting! It means a lot that my one-shots have caught your attention enough for you to request! Requests remain open but please keep in mind I they may take a while! Thank you again!

Red
✧ Pairing: Hunter x human!reader ✧
✧ Content/warnings: Soulmate AU, takes place during season 3, use of the word ‘damn’ once, the title is bland and I’m sorry, Hunter and the reader are both dorks, first post on here!! ✧
The “rules” for soulmates, as it were, were pretty straightforward. You see everything in the color of your soulmates eyes. Once you make eye contact with them you can see in full, proper colors. Seems simple enough, doesn’t it? Well, not for you, it wasn’t.
You, for the past sixteen or so years of your life, had been seeing nothing but red. Different shades, thank god, but red nonetheless. And to be frank, you were getting pretty damn fed up with it. The thing is that no one naturally has red eyes. And you would know; you’ve googled it maybe a thousand times already.
So you were fairly certain you didn’t have a soulmate, and this was all some cruel joke from the universe. But life marches on, so there’s no time to dwell on that, is there?
───── ───── ───── ─────
Another day at Gravesfield’s high school, bland as ever. At least until you caught a glance at your friend Luz. Rather, former friend. She’d been acting weird ever since she came back from that reality check’ camp. And not standard Luz weird, no— she’d been avoiding you since then. Acting like she didn’t know you at all whenever you approached her, not to mention her sudden lack of interest in anything she used to like. The Good Witch Azura books, most notably.
So, needless to say, you were a bit surprised at her new look. Curly hair, a new scar over her eyebrow, and a general air of seasonal depression about her. Even though your recent interactions hadn’t gone so smoothly, you couldn’t help but ask. You were still allowed to care about her.
“Luz?” You called out from down the school hallway. She turned her head in your direction, and you could practically see the stars in her eyes when she saw you. She ran towards you, almost tackling you in a hug. Stumbling backwards, you hesitantly returned the gesture. “Good to see you too?” You awkwardly pat her back, unsure of what to do at the moment.
“Y/N, I am so glad to see you! Oh, you have no idea how much I’ve missed you.” She backed away and wiped a small tear from her eye.
“We saw each other yesterday, though?” You chuckled, still perplexed by this whole situation. “Seriously, what’s going on? You’re kinda acting like you just came back from war right now.” Her face fell slightly, but her smile quickly returned.
“Meet me at my house once school’s done, ok? I have… a lot to tell you.” You nodded, and watched her just walk away casually after that interaction.
“Cool. Good talk, I guess?”
───── ───── ───── ─────
“So, if I’m following,” You began, now in the Noceda family’s living room. “You didn’t go to summer camp, but instead spent several months in a fantasy world, and the Luz I’ve been interacting with is actually a shape-shifting basilisk.” You pointed to Vee, who nodded shyly. “And in this fantasy world you became a witch, made a bunch of new friends, and got a girlfriend.” You left out the details involving Belos and the Collector, deciding that you didn’t need to recap whatever nonsense was going on there.
“Yeah, actually. You’re handling this surprisingly well.” Luz noted.
“I think I’m still in shock, to be honest.” You laugh a bit in disbelief. You couldn’t begin to comprehend what she’d been through during those months, and you kind of didn’t want to. “So, more importantly, do I get to meet these new people?” You questioned, and her face brightened.
“Of course! They’re upstairs, so let me go get them and I’ll be right back.” You waited downstairs with Vee, exchanging basic small talk. She apologized for the whole ‘impersonating one of your few friends’ thing, which was nice of her. Eventually Luz came back, new friends and girlfriend following behind her.
“Alright! Everyone this is Y/N.” You gave a polite wave, quickly scanning over the group. “Y/N, this is Willow, Gus, Amity, and Hunter.” You got a proper look at all of them as she said their names, your eyes landing on the blond last. Wait a minute, blond?!
As it would turn out, when you made eye contact with Hunter you could suddenly see a lot more colors. He clearly noticed this as well, as a light blush was present on his cheeks and ears. You could feel some heat rise to your own face as well.
“Y/N, is everything okay?” Luz asked, noticing your stunned silence.
“I, uh…” you stumbled over your words like an idiot, still staring at him. Saving what little dignity you had left, your phone dinged from your pocket. Checking the notification, you gave an awkward smile and held it up to the group. “Oh! You know what, that’s my dad. He probably wants me home for dinner!” You put your phone back in your pocket, and began approaching the door. “I’ll see you guys later, okay, bye!”
You got the words out as quickly as you could, and bolted as soon as the door was open. You ran back to your house, face still flushed from embarrassment and being generally flustered, leaving a room full of witches (and one human) awfully confused.
“Hunter, what was that about?” Willow asked, as he still stared at the spot where you once were.
“Um- good question.”
───── ───── ───── ─────
Later that day, Hunter knocked on the door to Luz’s bedroom.
“Come in.” She said idly, distracted by whatever she had been playing on her Switch. He entered her room, hands anxiously fidgeting at his sides. There wasn’t a particularly easy way to say this, so he just bit the bullet.
“So, you know the whole thing with your soulmate, and how you’ll only see in their eye color until you make eye contact?”
“Yeah?” She encouraged, curiosity evident in her tone.
“Well, it’s possible that maybe, perhaps, Y/Nismysoulmate.”
“What?!” She immediately paused her game, and whipped around to face him. “Really?! Tell me everything!” She sat on the ground and patted the spot next to her, encouraging him to sit down. He did so, face red from having to explain the whole ordeal.
“There’s nothing to tell! I used to only see e/c, I looked at them, now I can see every color, and they— I always thought your hair was black, by the way— and they just ran away!” As Luz sat and processed this information, Hunter continued thinking out loud. “Did they not like me or something? Is it because I’m from the Boiling Isles?” He questioned, grabbing the pointed tips of his ears. Cutting his rambling short, Luz spoke up.
“No, I don’t think so. They were always interested in fantasy like I was. Maybe they were just a bit overwhelmed?” She suggested. He sighed.
“I guess that could have been it.” He said, though the anxiety was still clear on his face.
“Hey, how about I try to get them to come over this weekend? You guys can talk about it then.” He nodded, and watched her grab her phone to message you. Titan, he hoped she was right about this.
───── ───── ───── ─────
A few days had gone by since the whole incident with Hunter. You had been avoiding him since then, though you honestly weren’t sure why. If you had to, though, you’d say it was probably out of shock. I mean, you were convinced you didn’t have a soulmate for years. And now this incredibly good-looking boy comes in from another realm, and he’s supposedly perfect for you? It’s absurd!
Though it was also worry. How would a relationship between the two of you even work out? He’d have to go home eventually, and you probably couldn’t come with him. Maybe he wouldn’t even like you after the way you left the other day, and he’d reject you before you even had a chance. That’d put a quick and easy end to all this.
You’d been really sick of the color red these past couple days. You usually were, but now it was for an entirely different reason.
Though you couldn’t avoid your problems forever, despite your best efforts. Luz had invited you over for a board game night to celebrate the two of you reuniting. And, well… who were you to say no?
───── ───── ───── ─────
The day finally came, and it had been going relatively well so far. No one else seemed to know what had happened or why you left that first time you came over. Though you and Hunter had been carefully dancing around each other the whole time. It seemed neither of you were equipped to talk about your feelings at the moment. But were you really ever?
Eventually you saw him slip out the front door. With a sigh, you decided to finally face the problem. No use in stalling any more than you already have. After telling Luz that you were going outside for a moment, you stepped out and saw Hunter sitting on the steps leading to the front door. He turned around at the noise, and immediately turned back the other way when he saw it was you. Wordlessly, you sat down next to him. After a moment, he finally broke the silence.
“You look really nice.” You glanced at him, and saw the pink dusting his face. You smiled at the way his blush would spill out onto his ears.
“Thanks, but I’m not really wearing anything special.”
“I know,” He continued, finally meeting your eyes. “I just mean, like- you look nice. You’re really cute.”
“Oh.” You said, quite simply, now blushing a bit as well. You looked at the ground beneath you, pondering how exactly to go about this. “So, this whole ‘soulmate’ thing, huh?”
“Yeah.” Was all he managed. His hands toyed with his pants, still a bit nervous about this whole ordeal. Unable to find the words he wanted, Hunter just looked out at the surrounding neighborhood for a bit. Eventually, though, he said the one thing that was on his mind at the moment. “So… what do we do now?”
“Well, if I may suggest something scandalous?” His blush deepened at your words, but quickly faded as he watched you intertwine your hand with his own.
“Wow, and we’re not even married yet.” He joked. You put your free hand up defensively.
“I know, I know! What can I say, I like to live on the edge.” He laughed, and you silently basked in the sound. You set your eyes on the sky above you, a handful of stars already visible in the late evening’s light. Maybe red isn’t half bad after all.

Hiiii!
May I request a Hunter x middle child! Blight! Reader headcannons?
Summary: The reader is a Blight, and also the middle child who is often forgot about and ignored by both the Blights and everybody else. They’re not as famous as the Blight Twins or Amity, and they spend most of their time inventing abominations to TRY and impress their parents
Reader also has a similar personality to ROTTMNT Don, but I’m not sure if you’ve ever watched it so you can just ignore this bit if you haven’t :)
A/n: The way this is formatted seems like it was for a one-shot request, but you said headcannons. I'm sorry if this isn't what you wanted and I'll redo it if so. Also, I've never seen any tmnt things so sorry about that.
-Bro he GETS you.
-The feeling of your "guardian" (If you can even call them that) not paying attention to you. So thanks to Belos's, Odaila's (and Alador's to a lesser extent) "A+ parenting." Y'all both have parental issues.
-Hunter was never the best at comforting but if you are upset with your family problems he'll do what he would want people to do when he's upset. Which doesn't always work but he tries.
-Amity is a pretty good sibling she's not the best mainly when she was mean (Her green hair era.) But bro Hunter hates her even if she's trying her best.
-When Ecilpse Lake happens he is like 50 times meaner. Like dude even though she's not trying to upset you or anything, Hunter is pissed off because of any time she made you even slightly sad.
-When he learns you invent stuff he BEGS you to show him.
-Like even if you agree the first time he asks he counties to ask and you are like "Hunter I'm going to show you-"
-Also he complements them so much! He loves inventions of any kind, magic-based or not, he likes to learn how they work.
-If you tell him he is so invested. Like you can be talking for hours and he is fully listening the entire time.
The dude is so in love with you-

Yandere: I wasn't STALKING you. I was just educating myself on your lore. Calm down.
Okay, but imagine Hunter (TOH) sputtering out an excuse like this when you catch him spying on you. He trains himself to identify your voice over the din and leaps from his hiding place behind the gaudiest kiosk in the Night Market.
Depending on whether this is pre-Hollow Mind, Hunter might throw up a rambling explanation for how Emperor Belos assigned him to a reconnaissance mission.
"You're a person of interest." He keeps his golden mask securely fastened to his face, hoping that its show-nothing design will render you oblivious to the profuse sweat now dripping down his uniform.
A pang of fear stabs Hunter in the gut as he hears his own words and struggles to rip the wobble out of his voice. "To Emperor Belos, I mean!" The slight crack and fluctuation of intonation, embedded deeper in his memory than anywhere else, fills him with a cold awareness of the smallest things.
Hunter stops his arm before it satisfies an itch under the hem of his glove. The leather, once a gleaming sign of prestige, now traps his wrist and palm in a clammy prison.
He looks away, as if anyone else in this world could seize his attention more, and reaches out to wave his hand up and down a few times. "So, resume your daily activities, citizen." Hunter leans against the side of the kiosk, props one heel over the other, and crosses his arms in an attempt to appear suave.
"I'll ... I'll be here."
As you scout another stall for cheap contraband, Hunter lays his full weight on the kiosk and accidentally pushes it into a steep bend in the road. He saves himself with a stumble and looks from you to the fleeing kiosk, then sprints after it, cloak flaring, yelling at the kiosk to "give me a break!"
Wheels snap and pots shatter in a crash that summons from the night an immediate uproar.

Two Humans in the Demon Realm - Fantasy And Nightmare
What if by the time Luz Noceda the human emerged into the demon realm...some other human did, too? However, instead of being joyful of being surrounded by all they love and taken in by a kind and openhearted witch...they are terrified of this place, taken in by the ruler of the realm?
[Basically I watched TOH again and dammit HUNTER SHALL HAVE A FRIEND I SAY NOT UNTIL S2 but NOW I SAY NOW]
BECOMING THE GOLDEN GUARD'S/HUNTER'S HUMAN FRIEND BECAUSE I SAID SO
The ground was red.
You swore you heard something akin to a growl from the plants.
The sea seems to be boiling and there is no way out, no matter how much you twist and turn.
There is no escape.
And as your fears turn into reality as raindrops hit your skin and burn your flesh away as you read in the book back home, you run and cry.
This is a nightmare.
This isn't earth. Nowhere this place could be, could be earth!
And if what that book said was true...
There are no humans but just one. From decades ago.
Perhaps you heard of the demon realm - through stories, gossip, theories, relatives that are aware of magic and witchcraft.
Maybe you believed in it, or maybe you thought it'd be humbug. The few magical instances in your life you witnessed - those were just show, right? A trick of the mind?
Or real magic after all.
But it did not matter. The moment you opened your eyes, you were stuck here.
On a rotting, red, boiling island that seemed far, far too familiar in that book you've read. Either out of interest or boredom. Maybe someone wanted to prove it to be real or you wanted to know if it was really fake.
Yet here you are and the smell, touch, sight and taste you sense were accurate to that stupid book.
And if that were the case, then certainly the rest of demons, magic and curses was real, too.
Being all alone in a strange place, stuck in it, is definitely going to be hard for you. No friends, allies or family around with only this stupid, stupid book in your hands that got you trapped here in the first place. As much as you hated it, it did give insight of the many qualities of the isles and therefore saving your skin a dozen times.
"The rain seems to be toxic. I have seen none indulge in its coolness but rather, hide from it. Witch and demon alike."
"The ground is very...solid. Almost bone-like...I do fear the entire island may be nothing but a macabre graveyard."
"I was not quite welcome here...nothing and no one hunted me down but I presume if my curiousity pushes for it, they will begin to."
The impressed yet depressing writing of the author did not help but they always managed to decribe things objectively with great detail that saved you again and again. Especially the pages including magic spells.
The many complicated and confusing glyphs written in it daunted you at first. Magic, you believe, is what got you in this mess in the first place but after careful thinking, procrastination, blocking it all out and finding yourself in a situation that forced you to cast magic - such one that could cost you your life - you've grown to be a bit more accepting of the concept of these...glyphs. Little by little, though.
So after some time, you finally, finally gained enough courage to...enter their society.
The market seemed to be fine for now. Hiding your ears behind a cape and hood YOU HAD TO MAKE YOURSELF USING THIS STUPID BOOK (which actually turned out quite impressive even when you did have to use magic) you entered. Turning into the wrong directions though you ended up in a even sketchier part of the night market.
The constant bellowing of...demons wanting to sell you things was familiar enough from earth (even when their...four eyes and gills decorated from their chin down to their chest where you can...see their heart beating...was a not so familiar sight) but the constant showing off of magic was not. You did not know everything and this (stupid) book did not detail everything either so you did your best to avoid anything magical. Which was harder than imagined considering this is a market for amplifiers and potions and whatnot.
Avoiding it all let you to an dead end of an alley...and right in the middle of a criminal act!
'Wild witches' as they were called and a red light engulfed all of you quickly from above. Figures clad in dark and masks that you recognized as that of guards of this realm appeared, those that you often had to run away from as well. Desperately tugging the book under your cloak you hoped you could use th scuffle to get out of there as fast and quietly as possible. These 'wild witches' and guards could thrash each other as much as they like, you won't stop them!
Yet from above, a cold gale with a flash of gold swept up from behind you, shoving a staff into your face.
"I wouldn't do anything stupid now if I were you."
Damnit!
Fine, the potion you begrudgingly needed three days to make had to come in handy now!
Whisking a flask to the ground, you made a run for it. You could hear coughing and cursing as the vapor ingulfed them, followed soon by another echoing sound before the same golden mask appeared in front of you again.
In a mere blink of an eye, they swung their staff and a biting wind knocked you to the ground. You quickly clung onto your book as the guard rose their staff above their head.
"One more of that trick and you're ash." They lowly let out, "Can't believe there are still wannabees out there that-"
They halt and you freeze, a shiver running up your spine. Even when all they did was stand still as a statue, the very fact that they were clad and gold and white with real, heavy armor and with a staff compared to the local guards around the isles was enough to leave you frightened.
This one means business. It must be.
But what are they? Nowhere are these people ever talked about in the book!
"...Human..."
You jerked up. Even their whispers were threatening.
Slowly but surely, the guard lowered their weapon. Though their face remained hidden by the mask resembling an owl, there was just a feeling, and underlying but undeniable feeling that made your stomach churn that whatever expression they might be having, their intentions are not in your interest.
"You're a human."
Your breath hitches. The cloak had fallen off from their spell, leaving it damp and abandoned further down in the alley. You didn't this would happen, you followed the instructions bit by bit. It felt like time stood still as the person before you hummed.
Finally, they raised their head again. "...You don't want trouble. Surely you don't?"
You shook your head.
"Then you're lucky you ran into me. Either you come with me or its the Conformatorium for you." They pointed the glowing tip of their weapon at you before playfully swinging it around, "And then, you know, zapped to dust, thrown into the sea to boil alive or petrified - there isn't much use for humans here."
Finally, you manage to speak. "You're not serious, are you?"
They sigh and motion for you to get up, doing so more threateningly when you did not obey the first time. "I'm not known for playing around." The red glow of the staff zapped towards your body, slung around your wrists like a snake before they jabbed you to keep walking out of the night market. "The Golden Guard can't afford to play around."
The next events were something you could only describe as hectic. Put on some kind of zeppelin (though it looked like a ship with wings) with magical...ropes(?) on you and head off to somewhere. Somewhere this guy claimed to be better than the 'Conformatorium'.
You had asked him what the point of taking you was but he was a bit too nonchalant for your taste.
"Oh, you'll see", He let out, "The Conformatorium is for witches and demons useless for the covens. But lucky for you, you might end up being useful, human."
It's all he said as he turned his back to you, controlling the ship with an carefree tune.
"I have a name, you know."
You spat out, couldn't take his attitude anymore. What is wrong with people in this realm?
The Golden Guard halted for a moment, stopping his melody abruptly. He waved his hand. "And?"
In turn, you scoffed out your name and telling him he might as well use it instead.
"What, does everyone also go around avoiding your name and calling you 'Golden Guard' instead or whatever?"
Once again he halted, longer than you anticipated. It was one request, a mere question but it left this guard guy guessing. He tilted his head absent-mindedly. You wondered what he'd need to ponder about for so long.
"...I do my job well," He started softly, "Well enough to be the only one worthy to be called the Golden Guard."
The trip was short and you did not know what to think of it. Glad to not bear this guy's attitude any longer or fearing for your life as a mere human in a place full of witches.
And covens? Use? Use for what? What is this...giant building, seeming more grande than anything else you've seen on the isles?
The rest followed by command. The Golden Guard shooed you to an different entrance than what you assumed tha main one was. The staff pressed against your back as you had no choice but to obey. With what could you defend yourself anyhow? An ancient book and bound hands?
The interior was akin to a palace of the medieval times, you noted. Individuals masked and clad in similiar white and gold worked routinely like soldiers in the hallways though your Golden Guard guy made sure nobody saw you. None of this was written in the book and though you have heard a few mumble in fear of the 'Emperor's Coven' you thought none of it. As long as you stayed away from it, you'd be safe. Yet here you were.
With a jab to the back, your oh so sweet companion ushered you up hidden stairs. Once entered the door behind you closed shut (with magic. Of course. Even in movies you never liked it when doors unexplainedly closed) and you went up ahead. The guard seemed to speed up more and more - along with getting ever so closer to a bright light ahead, you grew more anxious. This was it, wasn't it? You were going to die.
This would be your end, thrown into an hellscape away from family and friends. Treated like something worse than trash before your inevitable death.
Your companion rushed ahead of you, stepping into the room and immediately kneeling down. He moved his staff, causing you to tumble next to him, the magic ropes around your wrists tightening. "My Emperor," He let out in the most reverant voice you've heard him speak, "I apololgize for the sudden intervention but I have found something that might be of great interest to you regarding...the plan."
Looking up the dimly lit room, following the golden floor and walls, clad in immaculate red carpets and a set of stairs lied a throne. Tall and towering and on it, a man even more frightening.
He leaned his masked head against his armored hand, comfortably sitting on gold. His pale blue eyes glowed like that of a predator, you swore it at first sight.
"Your little friend will help accomplish our plan?"
"It is not anyone, sir." The Golden Guard pushed you forward and exposed your ears, "It is a human."
The exchange was scarier than anything else you'd seen on the isles.
The man on the throne was as swift as the wind as he stood up and approached you. He'd examine you, ask you question on who and what you are.
"Where do you come from, child, and when was that?"
He'd tilt his head and hum at your answers but did not make it known that he noticed your shaking and stuttering. However, his eyes lit up even more when he saw that book tightly hidden in your bag.
"Oh? What's this now?" With a flick of his finger, the book floated up to his eye level, pages after pages turned as he read them ever so quietly.
He'd definitely would ask you from where you got this book.
In the end it did not matter. Found it at a library, abandoned at a bus stop, given by clerk or friend. However, the man would raise a brow if you said that this book had been in your family for years.
Only if that were the case, though.
"Interesting. Well, welcome to the Emperor's Castle. Do make yourself at home."
...Wh-what?
The Golden Guard was just as confused as you. Stammering, he got up. "U- Emperor, what, here? Wh-what do you mean 'make yourself at home'?"
"It is what I said. Have you never had any guests, Golden Guard? You don't keep them prisoner," The man lifted his hand and the ropes around you vanished, "and you certainly take care of them. Like preparing a room for example." He put his arms behind his back, staring down at the younger man expectantly. He in turn, bowed and helped you up.
The...king of this castle you presumed, waved you goodbye. "We'll see what we can do for now. I'll gladly keep you here in my castle, safe and sound from the wilderness outside as long you can help me, little human."
Your companion excused the both of you and hurried you out of the throne room. Discreetly leading you inside an unused room, he shut the door.
"You're really lucky." He sighed, "...Anyone else wouldn't get...this treatment."
He sounded surprised and slightly melancholic but you didn't care - instead you can bombard him with any questions you like but he won't answer. Instead he shook his head and rose his open palm. "Listen, human. We're going to see how much of use you're going to be to the Emperor. But right here and now, the two of us are going to make some rules that he doesn't need to know of."
You can complain as much as you like but here you are in no position to refuse.
The Golden Guard listed each rule he abided to you.
'Do not leave the the castle, let alone the room. No one but him and the Emperor can know of your existence.'
'Tell each and every little secret you have to him first.'
'Don't cause trouble. He can get permission to stop treating you like a guest if you do'.
And lastly: 'Obey the Emperor.'
Your expression sours. This isn't what you wanted.
None of this was supposed to happen.
"Well, you'll get by. After all, as long as the Emperor allows it, you'll be kept safe. It's, ugh, my duty now too, to protect you. But be sure to stay in line because I can easily withdraw that priviledge."
Here you were. In this room.
It did have a bed, closet and desk with a chair. Much better than taking shelter in the rain under a firm bone or illegally breaking into someone's basement or shed. However, it was much more barren than any shed you broke into.
The Golden Guard would come in two to three times a day (WITHOUT KNOCKING) and bring you food and water. Either sternly ordering you around or playfully degrading you with a tap on the head with his staff. "Don't worry, the food is digestible for your human organs!" His enthusiasm didn't make the food taste any better though.
Aside from this, he'd ask you questions which you could only refuse or answer vaguely. He'd remind you of the safety the Emperor is providing you...but you can't admit that this 'Emperor' man felt sketchy to you. The book you always had with you was something you kept only for your eyes to see. It was your key in getting out of the demon realm and not matter what, you swore to yourself you wouldn't give it away or lose sight of it.
However, one day you had a request of your own.
"You remember our rules, don't you, human? No leaving this room."
"You can't expect to keep me here - thats keeping me prisoner, not as a guest!"
"I can tell you all about the great Emperor's Coven here. Besides, the Emperor plans to have a talk with you again."
You sigh. What's the point of escaping the room and getting lost in this giant castle right after? As well as risking being kicked out into the deadly outside of the isles?
But staying here would make you mad. Stuck in a system that you know nothing about...and you're supposed to just obey and take it?
"Can't you at least...show me around? I'd leave the room, yes, but you'd be with me. We wouldn't leave the castle and you can just keep an eye on me if you must. It's just...tiring to be here and not know what the rest of everything looks like." You looked out the window you were prohibited from opening. At least light went through, something akin to what you could deem a sun. "I still don't like this realm...but knowing nothing of it doesn't put me at ease even when I'm safe here."
Looking back you reckoned the Golden Guard was pondering about your request even behind the mask. You couldn't believe you were about to beg.
"Please, Golden Guard?"
Something about that look on your face felt too familiar.
With a heavy sigh he looks away - yet quickly regained his usual vigor. "Well, it would be a shame to be stuck in the great Emperor's Castle with the Golden Guard as your host and not see any of it."
He waved you over his shoulder to follow before swiftly spinning around with a stern voice. "But don't stray out of my sight. Disobey once and you're back in your room, human."
Hoooh boy, it worked.
Although a cloak and a mask was shoved into your hands, you gladly wore it if it meant getting out of the barren, same old room. As he said, the Golden Guard did not let you out of his sight but did insist on leading you. After all, you are pretending to be a newbie covenmember and the Golden Guard can't be seen walking side-by-side with someone beneath his status, hah!
He blabbered on and on about the many sights and objects you face with every turn of the hallways, some more interesting than the other. Your guard however, explained in great detail and with much vigor himself. "To the right we have the Healing Hat and if our guest were to turn to the left, they can admire the Oracle Sphere..."
He continued on with great detail as he waved his hand around as if that information was swimming carefreely in his brain. "Uhm, Golden Guard?" "Yes, newbie?" You ignored the sarcasm, "You witches can do magic because of that heart-addition-gall-thing-" "A sac connected to the heart filled with magical bile, which you lack." "Right. Then why do you need these magical items?"
He sighed. "They can be seen as amplifiers. They're made out of ingredients from the isles which can exceed magical abilities far greater than of any witch, besides Emperor Belos of course. It's easier than to train forever in a coven, so a short cut in a way." He shrugged.
You pondered about his answer, pursing your lips as you somewhat hesitated to ask again.
"...What are covens?"
In an blink of an eye the Golden Guard spun around and you could just imagine his dropped jaw. He let out something of a chortle. "Are you serious? You don't know anything of the Boiling Isles, do you, human?"
You sure were sick of his insults.
"If you were thrown into my realm, you wouldn't know a thing about my home either, would you, witch?"
Taking a step back, your companion hummed. "Hmph, fine. Then I'd better teach you about things here you should and shouldn't do before you get yourself killed. Can't afford to have you walk off and do something stupid, that'd be getting in the way of the plan...so follow my lead, human! I can show you the ropes."
So here you were, taking a longer patroul than planned as your teacher told you all there was to know - which was already a flood of information to take in and remember and you only started with the Emperor's Coven.
As witty his remarks were and how much he loved to throw them at you, the Golden Guard was truly a great teacher. He had a way to inprint each little trivia into your brain and even when you struggled to understand something, he managed to teach it to you in a way that you could grasp. The guy was quite knowledgable himself and it seemed his thirst for magical knowledge couldn't be easily quenched. He had an high opinion on both the Emperor's Coven and magic itself.
At the end of each day you made sure to write each new knowledge down in your book. It brings a smile on your face to see the book continued on from the detailed drawings and pretty, cursive writing to your little doodles and quick notes. It weirdly felt like being back in school and studying and while the change of environment and subjects weredaunting, the familiar routine brought you a bit of comfort.
The instances that brought no comfort were the 'meetings' with the 'king man'.
The Golden Guard drilled it into your head that he shall be adressed as 'Emperor Belos' yet no title could cease his suspicious aura. The man in question never seemed to take offense however.
He began with easy questions. Name, age, where you're from specifically and your time here in the demon realm. Often he found interest in your book but you hesitated to share its contents. The ruler always backed off when you refused.
It was also always very strange when the powerful witch emperor used your name and the Golden Guard didn't.
"Thanks for your time. It's always interesting to hear your perspective from your realm and how you perceive ours. You're really lucky you ended up here in my castle."
Belos also always reminded you of how safe you are in his domain.
If you show any disdain for the demon realm he surprisingly understands. A poor human like you couldn't survive out there for any longer...he can imagine the struggle.
He'd also be interested how far the human realm is on it's moderness. Is it the same as in the demon realm?
His number one question is how you got here in the first place though. You genuinely do not know nor remember but you do keep the secret that it had something to do with the book. Even when you did not know how.
Nevertheless, no matter how much Belos tries to win your favor and trust to look into the book and how you got here, you cannot bring yourself to trust him. The mannerism, the way he talks and walks and knowing he is an emperor just did not sit right with you.
It was never pleasant to meet with him even when he pretends it is.
So the routine stayed the same for a while until something happened.
How it happened is up to you. You snuck onto the airship to finally get out of that castle, the book or some magical item led you to it, you needed to see the Golden Guard for whatever reason or you accidentally got on it. The how doesn't matter, the fact that you are here is what would drive Belos' right-hand man mad.
"What- are you doing here?!" He squeaks out but no explanation would actually calm him. This is an mission he's on and no matter what he cannot let Belos' guest get involved in it! Think about the danger! "Oh, no, no, this isn't good. I already wasn't supposed to show you around the castle but this - this is inexcusable! No, I can't...you aren't supposed to be here, human!"
You back off. This is the first time you've seen the Golden Guard so...anxious.
As quick as it came however, he was able to shake it off and put on the mask again.
"No, it's fine. I can fix this before it even becomes a problem. But you, "He grabs your wrist, "You're staying by my side, got it?"
The outside was dangerous.
You landed in a part of the isles that was unfamilair to you. A few plants and forages were drawn in the book but that was all there was to it. Trotting after him, danger was quick to follow. It took him first and with the book always on your person, you swiftly drew a glyph in the ground. Creating a few more and dragging the guard back to the ship, he panted out his panic. And what you actually did.
"That...that was magic. I think. Picto - Picture - I don't know that part is hard to distinguish in the book." "That...that was kinda amazing...how did you-!"
Another wave of danger came and you drew another glyph onto ground. The guard steered the damaged ship to safety while you threw every trick you had up your sleeve. Finally arriving close to the castle in safety, your companion caught his breath and approached you.
"How...how did you do that? I thought humans can't put any spells on anything! I've never seen magic casted like that before!"
You can't help but smile slightly, seeing him genuinely flustered. Seems like he wasn't really this all-knowing teacher.
"I just copied what was in the book...it's easier than you think." Yet at that moment, your heart dropped. Someone as inquisitive as the Golden Guard who is still your captor even if he doesn't see himself in that way, would then want nothing more than to look into your book. You caught him reaching out for it before he stopped.
"Wait...those were various magic spells used from all kinds of covens...wild magic. You can't use that." You raised a brow and pressed the book further into you and away from him. "Why not? It's just usual magic, isn't it?" "You don't understand," He sounded serious despite being roughed up, "Of course you human wouldn't understand. You could get hurt if you aren't careful. Wild magic can..."
Retracting his hand, a sigh escaped him and he halted for a few moments. You weren't sure what he'd do next.
"...I am not giving you the book."
"You should! In fact, you gotta if you don't want to end up hurt!"
"These spells saved us! I saved you!"
Your glare soured again into a small frown. You took a step back and looked up at him, lips pressed into a thin line. You didn't really wanted to have him as an enemy.
You didn't want anyone to be an enemy. You didn't want to be here.
"I'm not fond of this magic either, Golden Guard, but I've got to use them. If I don't, I won't survive. If I didn't use this book back when I first got here and just now, I wouldn't have survived this place at all."
The guy was unusually silent. Only the flat breaths hitting his mask filling the silence.
Finally, he spoke up just as soft as you.
"...Why did you save me anyway?"
You rose a brow. You could understand where he came from with that question...but it still came out of nowhere. "Why wouldn't I?"
"Because you have no reason to. I...I am your host and you are welcome in the castle but you...you still didn't have a reason..." He trailed off for a second before starting again, "You could have steered the ship and got yourself back to safety. You could've left me behind."
Again, you only looked at him puzzled. "...Why would I?"
You stared at each other in silence.
- Before you broke it with nervous laughter. "I don't know how it is with you but from where I come from we...don't usually do that. You needed help and I could help you with these glyphs," You pointed at the book, "So, I helped you. I...couldn't just abandon you, Golden Guard."
The second wave of silence that ensued truly made your nervousness rocket.
A breath was taken, as if he had held it the entire time he was staring at you, and with it let out mumbles under his breath. "That's...so weird." With an unsure gait he passed by you, grabbed your wrist and lead the both of you to the castle.
Without looking back he adressed you with his usual stern voice. "I will not be confiscating the book. But I want to know what other forms of wild magic you can do...for research and safety. I won't tell Emperor Belos anything of what happened today."
The days grew less mundane at least, beside the one misadventure.
The Golden Guard visited you more often with more interesting intentions. You shared with what you were comfortable with and though it did annoy him at times, he found this new information more than helpful. You discussed many variants of magic and his excitment of the topic was quite infectious (but you'd never tell him that). In turn, he showed more around the castle and introduced you to many things but would not take you with him outside the castle barriers.
He still did not thank you for saving his life. It seemed he did not know how.
But you've come to grown to his company and vice versa.

hiii!!! can i rq headcanons of cute habits hunter has when he's in a relationship?? if that makes sense lmao😭 :) tyvm!!! <3
hi!! yes this totally makes sense! (Can't decide if reader is human or witch, so probs just read it as whatever! Might be hinted human tho! Im sorry!)
so imagine this, you're sitting in the Noceda's basement with Hunter and Gus, and you're in the middle and Hunter is to your right and Gus is sitting to your left, and Hunter smoothly slides his hand next to yours and interlocks your pinkies. UGH. He just does that whenever you're next to him like sometimes he doesn't even know he does it, yk?
He fidgets alot, like ALOT so sometimes he just grabs your hand and started cracking your knuckles (after you taught him how to do it after he saw you doing it). Like you could be having a conversation w Eda in the Owl House and Hunter is sitting right next to you and he just grabs your hand and just starts cracking your knuckles 😭
He just stares at you with heart eyes, he's so whipped, like you could be working w/ Luz and Luz points to him and giggles because he looks so cute while looking at you!
When you are also in the basement in the human realm and have your earbuds in he leans in closer to try and hear your favorite song and then you catch him humming to it while he's working on sewing 😍
He's just the sweetest boy ever to you, he's so nervous around you too, so 80% of the time he just giggles when he sees you, not in a mean way, like a nervous way!
he just is always grabbing your hand like no acceptions. Sleeping? No, Hunter has a grab on your hand. Cooking? No. Hunter still has a hold on your hand. Its so cute though that you let it slide LMFAO.

———————————————————
✧Luz Noceda✧-
✰ when she found out she was partnered with you for the school project she ran home and dived onto her bed
✰ screamed into her pillow like there was no tomorrow
✰legs flailing and everything
✰ part of her was dreading working with you incase she did something wrong
✰ and the other part of her was swooning at the idea of spending more time with you
✰ eda was giving the worst advice ever like holy-
✰king declared himself the 'king of wingmen' and decided to help Luz in her flustered state
✰Luz asked around the school what your favourite food was so she could have it ready for when you came round
✰hooty was banished from speaking to you
✰poor fella
✰gave you a house tour and rambled on about all the intricate details due to her nerves
✰she got that neurodivergent swag
✰could not sit still the whole time you two were studying
✰was very interested in the topic but would bounce on the bed whilst you read out loud to her
✰king kept appearing in the room to try and wingman
✰was kicked out before he could make significant damage
✰lots of blushing and awkward giggles
✰you told her she was smart and she just broke
✰was fumbling over her words so bad
✰"haha yeah- thank you, you're uh, pretty too- PRETTY SMART- pretty smart too..!" bless her soul omg
✰eda did in fact make your favourite food and it warmed your heart that Luz put in so much effort to make you feel comfortable whilst you were there
✰eda was spying on you both to make sure you were suitable enough for Luz
✰she approves
✰all in all you two barely passed bc you both either got distracted or were interrupted by the other residents of the owl house
✰definitely got closer to each other though and you both are excited for the next school project
☾Amity Blight☾-
✰she was so ready for this
✰school was her thing, and doing something school related, with you?? she was thrilled
✰planned the entire evening so you both would have time to study, complete the project, eat and engage in conversation
✰wouldn't mind doing the project at her house, but would much prefer doing it at yours
✰if you both went to her house she would grab your hand (bold move, her heart was racing) and literally run to her room to avoid contact with her family
✰could not avoid her siblings however, as they were waiting in her room for you two
✰they teased the two of you like crazy
✰amity literally tackled them out of her room and barricaded the door
✰rough start, but we perceiver
✰you two 100% passed with top marks because our girl was not letting you fail on her watch
✰got briefly distracted as she thought about maybe asking you out for future study dates
✰she tried to ninja her way down the stairs to with you to get some food and take it back up to her room but her dad caught you both
✰just nodded at you in acknowledgment and instructed that you both didn't stray from the task you'd been given from your teachers
✰ate in her room and talked for a good while
✰she had conversation starters on little flash cards
✰"so, y/n, what is your favourite subject?" listens so intently at your answer
✰gave you a kiss on the cheek as you left
✰10/10 would study with again
✰and that kiss sparked a blossoming relationship :)
✿Willow Park✿-
✰told her dads about her nervous she was about you coming round for the project
✰they were excellent hype men
✰when you entered her home it was a very welcoming atmosphere
✰she gave you a bouquet of your favourite flowers
✰"I got you some flowers, I hope you like them :)!"
✰you spoke to her dads for the first 15ish minutes
✰guided you to her room with a hand on the mid-section of your back
✰she gave you her comfiest pillow and blanket
✰put the flowers in a vase while you two studied
✰you both had a pretty good balance of working and having fun talking
✰definitely passed with at least a B+
✰once you both finished the project you laid down on her bed and you both just stared at each other as you spoke about whatever was on each others minds
✰her dads helped organise a future hangout between the two of you
✰gave you the biggest bear hug before you left, and gave you the vase and flowers
✰very wholesome experience, it went very well
☘︎Gus Porter☘︎-
✰had his fists clenched to his chest and a very wobbly straight lipped expression on his face when he found out
✰he was trying not to look flustered
✰very awkward organising process, but it was cute watching him move his hands around like an insane person as he forced words out of his mouth
✰was stood outside his front door waiting for you to arrive
✰opened the door for you and stood to the side as he gestured you in
✰a true gentlemen
✰his closet was bursting to open because he'd thrown all his human nicknacks into it beforehand so his room would look less messy
✰pulled your chair out for you at his desk
✰he's trying so hard to impress you it's so cute
✰info dumped about the subject and you were astonished at how much information he knew
✰he did a lot of research before you came over to appear smart
✰you two would get distracted a lot but always found your way back to the project
✰passed, and that's all that matters
✰checking every five minutes that you're comfortable
✰"are you sure you're comfortable? I can get you another pillow if you'd like!"
✰just an absolute sweetheart, when you left after giving him a hug goodbye he collapsed onto the floor and just melted into it
✰phoned Luz and Willow to tell them every little detail
✰squealed once or twice whilst talking about it
✰'twas a lovely experience, 10/10
乂Hunter乂-
✰had no idea what he was doing
✰look he's just getting into this whole 'school' thing, and now he has to work with you?? how will he prove himself a worthy suitor if he's in uncharted territory
✰literally barged into the owl house in full blown panic mode
✰Luz told him to just be himself, and gave some good advice about how study sessions and projects normally go
✰eda teased the hell out of him and he was RED
✰went round your house cause he's kinda homeless
✰was stood like this🧍♂️when you opened the door
✰forgot how to breathe a good few times
✰he was determined to impress you with his knowledge, and would literally beam whenever you slightly complimented him
✰after a while he got more comfortable and was able to have some good banter with you and ease up a bit
✰was still very aware of his movements and actions, but was able to calm the tension in his body down and speak more freely
✰you both did that cliche where you reached for the same pen and your hands collided in the middle
✰"ah-! I'm sorry, no, you take the pen, I didn't mean to invade your personal space like that or take your things." give him a hug wtf
✰his fingers felt all tingly afterwards
✰you reassured him that you didn't mind at all, and found his apology to be really sweet
✰you both passed!
✰as he left your house for the night he blurted out "we should do this again! soon!", nodded his head quite violently and then bolted
✰you guys did do it again and it was great :)
⁂Edalyn Clawthorne⁂-
✰this is the only time she actually did her work istg
✰was unbelievably nervous but did not let it show
✰when you arrived at her house she opened the door, put her elbow against the frame, put one leg in front of the other and smirked at you
✰she then lost her balance and fell but we don't talk about that
✰gave you a tour of her home, and you said hello to Lilith before going up to her room
✰was really struggling to focus but she tried so hard cause she didn't want you to fail because of her
✰if you have hair, she would end up randomly grabbing a bit of it and messing with it absentmindedly
✰or she would grab your poke you at random times and then smile at you when you looked up, denying that she ever poked you in the first place
✰a menace
✰used many pathetic pickup lines on you, with full confidence it would woo you
✰it did but that's a you problem
✰you both barely passed tbh, but she was chuffed with herself when she heard about your grade
✰asked you on a date at the end and you said yes
✰almost cried out of joy to Lilith when you left
♪Raine Whispers♪-
✰very calm and collected when they found out they were partnered with you
✰just very happy abt it
✰stares at you whilst you work out who's house you'll be going to and what time you'll get there with love in their eyes
✰very willing to just follow you around wherever you go
✰just like with willow you both find a good balance between work and fun
✰nods and smile whilst you ramble on about the project or your interests
✰plays you a little song at the end of the evening
✰they wrote it for you
✰you both passed!!
✰shows off their magic and the tips of their ears go pink if you compliment them about it
✰100% attempts to make you join the bard covern
✰you both hang out a lot more after that :)

a headcanon i really like is that since hunter is a grimwalker and made with stonesleeper lungs, he has the stonesleeper trait of liking to be scratched behind the ears lol. would love to see a oneshot about that ^^
A/N: That sounds really adorable
TW: Mentions of past trauma
You had been sitting on the couch watching tv until midnight with Hunter. It was almost 11, and you wanted to go to bed. You weren't very tired yet, but you were going to get there soon enough. You could feel your eyes drooping as your head fell back against the couch, and your gaze settled on Hunter. He was sleeping peacefully on his side in front of you.
It had been a while since you and the others found out that he was a grimwalker. However no one treated him differently, you continued to flick through channels and decided to turn off the tv. Making a mental note to find a good show to watch later.
The night before you and Hunter had decided on something else, however as usual Hunter insisted that you choose what you wanted to do. You knew belos’s actions had left an imprint on Hunter, always asking what you wanted to do and never what he wanted to do.
You let out a sigh, throwing your head back on the couch as Hunter continued to snore. ‘Hm, if I remember correctly..Hunter has the trait of a stonesleeper’, you thought to yourself. Without realizing you had brought your hand to the back of his cut ear.
As you did, your mind traveled back to the first time you saw Hunter for the first time, when you had been fighting him to free the palismen. “So…how did you get those scars? Never seen anything like them.” “You humans talk a lot, don’t you?', he said completely ignoring what you asked.
You couldn’t help but scratch the back of his elf like ears. They were so cute. You watched as Hunter shuffled around a bit, you decided to pull the blanket more over him. As you went on with scratching the back of ear, you watched how it twitched just from scratching.
A soft sound of content escaped Hunter's lips and you felt butterflies in your stomach. The smile came naturally, and you couldn't stop yourself. If you could describe his actions when being scratched, it was almost cat-like.
You couldn't stop rubbing his ears until you got tired. It didn't take long for you to finally stop, but you made sure not to wake him. Leaving you to your thoughts, ‘grimwalker or not, his reactions are everything when sleeping’. You rubbed the under of his eyes, he really needs to sleep more. ‘Maybe I should teach him some skincare’, you thought thinking how it would be a nice way to bond together.
You squeezed him slightly before placing a kiss on his ear, only for it to twitch and turn a shade of red. You pulled back and laughed softly, he was so adorable, even after having been asleep for an hour. You leaned down and kissed his cheek gently and then gotten comfortable, only to wrap an arm around his waist. ‘Goodnight’, you whispered before drifting off to sleep.

crush on wild witch hcs ; hunter
requested by ; anonymous (24/10/21)
fandom(s) ; the owl house
fandom masterlist(s) ; here
character(s) ; hunter wittebane
outline ; “Hunter just realizing he has a crush on a wild witch after multiple encounters with them and his inner monologue is just: No. Stop. Shit. WHY?!”
warning(s) ; semi enemies to lovers
the first time he met you, he didn’t really feel any which way about you
like yes you were a wild witch and yes he was the golden guard and you weren’t exactly on the same side
but you were just a witch and he was off duty and so he just kinda sent some scouts after you, assuming it to be too easy of a mission for him to get involved in
that you’d be petrified by the end of the week
but then he saw you again, a few weeks later, walking around as if nothing was wrong as you went about some menial task
alive and breathing and definitely not made of stone
and he was intrigued and approached you and teased you and you fought
or, well, you squabbled
he wouldn’t call it a fight because he certainly wasn’t trying and it was more about antagonising you — about having fun
until you beat him and he was forced to run and lick his wounds
the golden guard defeated by a single wild witch. it was shameful!
and that was when he started to see you as a threat, as his equal and that was far from a good thing
and he hated you for it. for beating him, humiliating him, sending him back to the emperor with more than just a bruised ego
so he made it his personal mission to apprehend you and take you back to the conformatorium himself
but he began with just watching you as you went about your daily life — observing you and learning your patterns and habits and weaknesses as an individual by blending into crowds and buildings and nature
making a note of everything that made you squirm and frown and bristle so he could use everything at his disposal the next time you fought
and that next time came far sooner than he anticipated and you battled over the boiling ocean, flying and dipping and diving and teleporting as you exchanged spells and dealt out blows as good as you got
only retreating when it started to rain and you were forced to seek shelter — which you’d noticed first and warned him with a biting remark that had him turning red from more than just embarrassment
and he hated you for it
well he didn’t hate you for it, but he had to hate you
because you were a wild witch and he was the golden guard and he hated wild witches and you hated the emperor’s coven, which hated wild witches
and that meant he had to hate wild witches and that meant hating you
you and your endless sarcasm and your mastery of magic and your ability to match him in pace and ferocity in battle
okay maybe he didn’t hate you — no matter how much he tried to will himself to
and maybe that was worse — to lay awake at night thinking about a wild witch and worrying about your safety when he should be hunting you
shit.

Hi! I saw your requests were open! Could you write a Hunter x Fem! Reader one-shot where the reader has a overprotective palisman who’s just a lil shit and actively tries to sabotage them getting together?
(You can keep reader’s palisman ambiguous in species but I had a capybara palisman in mind for the reader)
Protective Palisman - hunter x fem!reader
summary: you started to reminisce on the “good” times between hunter and your palisman
words: 912
warnings: nothing besides Palisman being a shit 😭
a/n: sorry this is a bit late! i had a lot of work I needed to catch up on, but i hope this is good and meets what you were hoping for. i had a really fun time writing this and i fell in love with the Palisman 😭🫶🏻
You looked down at Hunter, a small smile etching its way into your face noticing how your palisman cuddled into him. It was nice to finally see the capybara palisman finally accepting of you and Hunter’s relationship. He had been, to put it simply, a little shit when you two first started ‘going out’. If that’s what you could call the endeavors between you two. You start to reminisce about the first time Oz had ever met Hunter, well at this point it had been Caleb.
“Oz, come back here!” The palisman had currently been scampering through the crowd of students, holding a fairy pie in his mouth. The same fairy pie that he had stolen from the baking club's booth, again. He really was a little shit at all times.
You had finally gotten your eyes on him again as he was passing by Willow’s booth. “Oz you little shit!” Willow turned to look at the fleeing palisman and your running figure behind her with wide eyes. She laughed a little before picking Oz up from the ground. The sudden stopping of the palisman had you trying to stop, but it had already been a couple of beats too late as you were hurdling toward the ground. Oz started to make a weird noise from the safety of Willow’s arms that you could only assume was his way of laughing at you.
You looked up at him and he had already been munching on away on the fairy pie. Your face fell. Great, now you owed the bakery club a new pie. You were probably just going to get Amity to make a new one. You stood from the ground, brushing the dust from your uniform and wiping away at your face. The minute your eyes fell on the palisman held in Willow’s arms, your features twisted into a scowl.
“You okay Y/n?” Willow asked. She handed you Oz, a little reluctantly because of the state of your anger.
“Yeah, great. I just owe the bakery club a new pie now.” You sighed. You held Oz in your arms as you looked at the booth Willow had set up. It had been all about flyer derby, which you had thought was really cool that she had gotten into it after playing Grudgy with Luz and Gus. But looking around the booth, you noticed the Golden Guard standing there. Just as you were about to get your staff ready, you noticed him motioning for you to stay quiet. You narrowed your eyes, but quickly smirked and decided to use this moment to your advantage.
“I see you have your first recruit for Flyer Derby, Willow.” Hunter’s eyes widened, he opened his mouth to mostly likely negate what you had said but you gave him a look that made him close his mouth.
“Really? Oh, that’s awesome! Maybe with his wicked flying skills and your sick magic combos, we can actually win!” Willow jumped around the ground and went off to probably go find some more recruits. You looked over at Hunter who was currently occupied with a somewhat feral Oz backing him into the other booths.
“Oz!” You picked up your palisman (who was still not relenting in trying to scare Hunter) and looked at Hunter. “Look, I don’t know what you’re doing here or why you're scared of a capybara of all animals but don’t screw this up for Willow. She’s an amazing person and deserves this win.” You went to turn around but felt a hand around your wrist. Hunter stood there looking at you, earnest in his eyes. “I wouldn’t…purposely try to ruin things.” Pink had tinted his whole face at the contact between your hands. You smiled at the flushed boy and put your hand into his which caused his eyes to widen.
“Good,” you commented. This was when Oz decided to jump from your hold and ravage whatever sanity Hunter had left. The palisman took the hood of Hunter’s borrowed cowl and covered his entire face with it and then took his tiny paws and tried to hit the top of the boy’s head.
“Oz!”
You laughed at remembering your palisman’s antics. He may cause you a lot of trouble from time to time, but you loved him nonetheless and knew he only wanted the best for you.
You started to feel movement in your lap and looked down at Hunter opening his eyes after some much needed rest.
“Mornin’ sleepyhead,” You smiled at him. He groaned and proceeded to stretch his limbs before looking at you with a tired smile. “What were you laughing about?” He questioned.
“Oh you know, just the first time you and Oz practically ever met.” The words caused Hunter to deflate and purse his lips.
“I still have marks from the time he wouldn't stop biting my ankles.” You laughed while ruffling Hunter’s hair.
“To be fair to Oz, you were trying to kidnap my friends and I.” At the mention of the palisman’s name, Oz woke up from his nap and looked between you and Hunter with a squeak. Sometimes he was too smart for his own good.
“Still,” Hunter grumbled to himself. It was that moment Oz decided to relive some good memories by terrorizing Hunter once again by tugging at the edges of his hair.
You continued to cackle at your palisman while Hunter ran off trying to pry his hair free, Flapjack flying behind the disgruntled boy.

Hiii!
Could you make a Hunter x nonbinary! Reader where the reader is the quiet kid at hexide?
Okay here's a bit of a summary;
So, after the events of "hollow mind", Hunter ran away, but instead of crashing at hexide, Darius found him and adopted him, enrolled him at hexide, etc. So Hunter starts to hang out with the hexsquad more, after a few weeks of being there he notices reader. Reader usually tends to be more quiet, and closed off, but Hunter wanted to try to be friends with them (mainly cuz Luz encouraged him to), please make it long if you don't mind!
Btw reader is secretly (not so secretly) a huge geek about science and magical history!
Also with a bit of angst but also mabye slightly suggestive/mildly spicey (make-out scene in a closet prehaps), and ofc fluff!.
Closeted Nerds
Word Count: 8 K (8,015).
T/W: Crying, threat of death, Petrification mentioned,
Summary: Hunter runs away, finds Darius, and enrolls in Hexside. He becomes a student and befriends (Y/n).
I'm so tired
Hunter ran through the forest madly. He raced past blurs and shadows in the dark. The desperate chirping of a bird followed him closely as it tried to catch up with the fleeing boy.
“He knows I was there- I CAN’T GO BACK I- I CAN’T GO BACK-” He cried frantically as tears burned his eyes.
A tall figure in the distance turned to see shuffling in the woods, his attention being drawn by the sudden stirring. It proceeded to groan and become an amalgamation of dark, purple ooze, disappearing into the ground.
Hunter continued to run frantically, his mind racing with doubts and fear. Suddenly, a glob of ooze rose from the ground before him, towering into a familiar witch. He screamed, stumbling and crashing violently into the ground. He scrambled up and attempted to crawl away, fear completely taking control of him. HE KNOWS HE KNOWS- HE FOUND ME.
The glob reached forward, grabbing his legs and lifting him up. “Well if it isn’t the little prince?” He muttered, staring at the blonde dangling before him. He waited for him to respond defensively, expecting the usual.
The boy began to hyperventilate, tears pouring down his eyes as he waited for the worst. “NO- NO PLEASE LET ME GO!” He begged, trying to squirm away. “PLEASE- PLEASE DON’T TAKE ME BACK HE’LL KILL ME- HE’LL GET RID OF ME LIKE ALL THE OTHERS!” He cried desperately, wanting to run away. “DARIUS, PLEASE, PLEASE DON’T TAKE ME BACK! PLEASE!”
Darius stared in shock at the blonde as Eberwolfe appeared behind him. “I- take you back?” He muttered. He examined Hunter as the boy continued to cry and whimper. He realized something was off, something was completely wrong; The usually defensive blonde was suddenly begging to be let go.
Darius began to set him down. Hunter scrambled away but was unable to stand up. “What do you mean ‘don’t take you back’? You’re making even less sense than usual…” He glared at him.
Hunter began to cry again, shaking violently as he tried to form words. “I- He knows I was in there- He saw me- HE KNOWS, HE KNOWS HE KNOWS HE KNOWS!” He began to hyperventilate again.
“WHO’S HE?!” Darius groaned, motioning a hand in the air with annoyance.
Hunter closed his eyes, pulling his hair madly. “BELOS! BELOS SAW ME! THE OTHER GUARDS! HE SAW ME I CAN’T GO BACK I CAN’T GO BACK!” He screamed as he shook his head violently, unable to think of anything.
Darius felt his heart sink, a sudden wave of fear and realization overcoming him. The Guards… His predecessors. He exhaled nervously as he recalled the day Hunter received his staff. My… Mentor…
He breathed out. “You don’t make any sense, what did you see? You were in his mindscape weren’t you?” He asked. He feared the worst, only being able to imagine the horror the truth held.
Hunter looked up nervously before nodding. “What did you see?” Darius asked again, waiting anxiously for a response.
Hunter felt Flapjack land on his shoulder. He jumped slightly before turning to look at him. He looked back up to Darius, tears flooding down his face again. He knew about the mindscape- it was him…
Hunter began to shake his head again. Darius furrowed his brows. He kneeled before the boy, gently placing his hands on his shoulders. “Hunter, what did you see?” He asked again. Hunter looked at him for the first time. He looked into his eyes: they were full of genuine worry, not arrogance or pride.
Hunter swallowed nervously, whimpering again before speaking. He lunged forward at Darius, wrapping his arms around him. “He lied! HE LIED ABOUT EVERYTHING! The guards- they- he was- they’re all gone because of him! He’s- he knows I know, he saw me- DARIUS HE’S GOING TO KILL ME!” He sobbed into Darius’ chest.
A disgusting feeling of sinking consumed Darius. His vision fuzzed as his knees weakened. We were right… He blinked, confused about everything. He hesitated before awkwardly placing his arms around Hunter as the fragile boy poured his broken soul into his chest. The witch’s arms pulled Hunter closer to him. Darius began to breathe heavily, trying to contain himself as he pieced everything together. I was right. He looked down to the sobbing boy, remembering his mentor. He’s gone now… because of Belos.
A sudden sadness overcame Darius; This was all that was left of his mentor. All Darius possessed was the power he had learned to control, and Hunter: the boy he considered a pest for years, the arrogant self-empowered brat, the utterly distraught child never failing to remind him of what once was.
Eberwolfe crept closer to Darius and muttered something. He turned to face his shorter companion, still confused.
“Yes. You are right,” He pulled away from Hunter and faced him. “I don’t know what it was you saw in there, but from what I understand, you have proven our suspicions… true.” He eyed the boy who was still crying and trembling.
Darius sighed again. “You were right about one thing- you can’t go back to the castle.” He said plainly as he began to rise up.
Hunter sniffled as he began to shake his head, “D-Darius please don’t take me back…” He trembled, only being able to imagine what Belos would do to him.
Darius looked down at him, summoning abomination magic to help Hunter rise up. “No, I won’t take you back to the castle. Then he would know we were the ones who made the spell in the first place.”
“Huh?” Hunter murmured quietly, beginning to piece together what had happened that night.
“Oh, we’ll just worry about this later,” Darius mumbled as he rubbed his temples. “Just…” He looked at Hunter again, remembering his mentor, recalling the connection he had built with him. “Just follow me. I know somewhere you can stay.”
Hunter hesitated, watching the Coven Head march away. He sniffled before chasing after him. “Where are we going?” He murmured through whimpers and pants.
Darius thought for a moment before responding. “Home.”
The two walked through the forest quietly, approaching Bonesburrough.
“I never got the chance to thank him- or to say goodbye…” Darius murmured quietly. “I… The least I can do now is look after you. It’s funny, you seem to be a perfect copy of him.” He laughed lightly before continuing, “That was one of the things he was so good at- his abominations. His spells were so intense he could alter the color of abomination. He could creat a duplicate of just anybody! You look like you were pulled right out of him! ” He chuckled lightly as he turned to face Hunter who had become sickeningly pale.
“I am…” Hunter murmured, feeling tears burn his skin. “I’m a Grimwalker…” He muttered helplessly, unable to stop his thoughts from becoming sentences.
Darius snapped around and looked at him. “What?” He asked with confusion.
The young boy froze, trembling as he spoke again. “He said ‘out of all the Grimwalkers, I looked the most like him’…” He murmured.
Darius felt his blood run cold. “I…” He stopped, his mind racing with a million new questions and solved puzzles. “I think that… explains a few things…” His voice broke and his breath hitched.
Hunter simply looked up at him as more tears left trails on his pale face. Darius gave him another heartbroken look before turning around and continuing to lead the way through the dark night. Eberwolfe scurried past the two and ran towards an old house.
“This is where I lived when I was a young witch,” He explained as he joined the small creature. “It’s empty now, and you’ll be safe in it.” He summoned a glob of abomination magic, forming a key and opening the door.
“Sleep here and I’ll be back for you in the morning,” He muttered plainly, waiting for the young witch to make his way forward.
Hunter hesitated, his ears bending back anxiously. The house seemed sophisticated and elegant despite it being empty for years. It almost reminded him of the castle.
“You’ll be back?” He asked, looking at Darius again. The witch nodded. “You’re… you’re sure?” He asked worriedly.
Darius groaned, “Yes, now get in there before I drag you to the castle myself!” He spat. Hunter gasped, feeling his blood run cold.
The Coven Head rolled his eyes. “Please, just stay here for the night. I’m not taking you back to that castle under any circumstances. I told you already, I owe this to my mentor- and to you as his successor.” Darius summoned an abomination, “He’ll watch over you until I’m back.” Hunter turned to see the striking similarities between Darius and the glob he created.
“Fine,” Hunter murmured nervously. The young witch stepped inside nervously, almost feeling that the strange house would swallow him.
Darius began to close the door, hesitating as it remained a sliver open. “Goodnight, Hunter.” He said kindly, watching as the blonde turned in disbelief before gently closing the door and locking it with the same key.
Hunter swallowed harshly, looking around his new home. It was larger and more elegant than his room, which was composed of scraps and makeshift patches. He suddenly felt the heavy weight of the night rest on his shoulders as he recalled how alone he was, how he had realized that very night he was nothing more than a throw-away replacement. That his once-grand life had been a horrific mask of the truly purposeless thing he was.
⋅•⋅⊰∙∘☽༓☾∘∙⊱⋅•⋅
The blonde frowned awkwardly as he made eye contact with the principal of the school.
“You are enrolling your…?”
Darius stood tall and reached his hand onto Hunter through his cape.
“Son. He is my son.”
Hunter perked, feeling tears flooding his eyes. “I am?” He murmured in disbelief. “But-”
“No ‘but’s’ young man,” Darius replied, smiling at him. “It’s about time someone teaches you how to use magic properly.”
Hunter looked up at Darius, disbelief, gratitude, and an undying appreciation all glowing through his magenta eyes.
Darius smiled and pulled him closer. “But before you enroll him into any classes, I would like to make a request.” He murmured, looking back at Principal Bump. “My son has difficulty with magic- he was born with non, sadly.” Hunter’s cheeks flushed red in humiliation. “But… we’ve found that through his palisman…” he called over Flackjack who sang happily on his finger. “...He is just as abled as any other witch. Please, be patient with him. He needs a mentor, and one willing to work through with him.”
Principal Bump Smiled. “I understand. Thank you for being so patient with him, and for letting this be known to us. I can really tell you care about your son- he seems like a very talented young witch.”
Hunter looked up with some surprise. He stood up straight. “Y-yes, sir… I want to be the best witch I can- and I’ll do whatever it takes!” He stated confidently.
Principal Bump chuckled, “Well then, Hunter, I think you’ll do just fine here. Welcome to Hexside.”

Luz shot up in surprise. She gasped suddenly before grabbing Amity and shaking her violently. “LOOK!!!” She squeaked loudly. She and her friends all snapped towards the direction she pointed at. Everyone gasped in disbelief.
“No way!” Gus exclaimed, “Is that… really him?” He examined the familiar figure, eyeing him suspiciously.
Amity looked from Luz to the figure. “But… what would he be doing here??” She asked. “He… he’s in uniform, too…”
Willow quietly examined the familiar blonde. “And… he seems very… nervous.”
Everyone quietly inspected him. The blonde male carried a lunch tray and had been swaying wildly, avoiding young witches who flew and rushed right past him. They watched as he approached several tables only to be turned away and forced to continue wandering about. Something had changed, however. He was no longer demanding and barking with authority, but awkwardly pleading. He humbly approached table after table, group after group, silently begging to be accepted somewhere.
Luz hesitated, seeing how he struggled to find a place to eat. “Should we…?”
“Go help him?” Gus asked. He sighed. “I guess so… I mean… I think he IS a student now, right?”
Luz frowned nervously, remembering the night she had last seen him. The last moments they spent together were in The Owl House, in Eda’s living room. He had stormed out in utter terror and panic, fleeing from everything and everyone. Tears pricked her eyes as she recalled what she had learned- what she was hiding.
“I think we should help him,” Willow said confidently. “Besides, he did help us before back when they almost made us coven scouts.”
Luz snapped back, looking at Willow “Y-yeah!” She muttered awkwardly. “You’re right, we should go talk to him!”
Everyone glanced at each other, silently agreeing to proceed. They rose up from the table and began to make their way towards the blonde.
The male huffed awkardly. Things wren’t this rough when I was Golden Guard, were they? He looked around again, searching for a place to sit. Hunter panicked, seeing the group approach him.
“Y-you!” He sputtered. He took a step back, fearing that they would attack or capture him. “What do you want?! I- I- don’t want trouble!” He looked from person to person, backing up in fear. “I- I’m just trying to fit in somewhere- I swear!”
Gus perked up, “Woah! We just wanted to talk!” He explained, raising his hands. “Why are you here?”
“And in uniform?” Luz asked curiously. She eyed the blonde, examining him carefully.
The male cowered back, his eyes darting at each of them. Flapjack suddenly flew onto his shoulder, startling the male. He flinched, looking at his companion and then at the other witches.
He scowled, unsure of what to do. “I-” He muttered inaudibly, fearing the worst. “I- I- I’m just a student.” He stated, trying to stand still. His tray trembled slightly in his unsteady hands. He looked to Luz. “I… decided to start going to school here. And now I’m a student.” He glared at her, unsure of what she would say.
She tilted her head. “What? So you just… you came here?” She motioned to the building. “You chose to just… come here? After everything we saw in Belos’ mind scap-”
The blonde jolted up, taking a hand away from his tray and waving it wildly at her. “NOTHING. I don’t know what you saw in there, but none of it is my business!" He snapped. His tone was harsh but Luz knew it wasn’t anger: it was fear.
The others flinched back slightly. Willow pursed her lips and stepped forward.
“Well… since I guess that’s none of our business… I think we can set that topic aside.” She gave Hunter a gentle smile. “You said you’re a student here, right?” She crossed her arms and waited for an answer.
The male’s expression softened. “I… yeah… I was just enrolled today, actually.” His posture straightened. “I’m going to be a student here from now on.”
Gus tilted his head. “What about the whole ‘Golden Guard’ thing? Aren’t you bound to that forever or something?” He asked.
Hunter’s face flushed red. “I…” Flapjack chirped, reassuring the male. He glanced at his companion and then back at the group. “I… I’m not actually… really… Golden Guard anymore…” He muttered quietly. “LOOK!” He stated loudly. “I left. I’m here. I just want to sit down somewhere and eat. I don’t want any more ‘Emperor’s Coven’ business or anything anymore. Darius took me in, enrolled me in this school, and now I’m here.” He admit. “I don’t have anything to do with the Emperor anymore. I’m just. Me. Here. And Hungry…”
“Are youuu…. Okay?” Luz asked, raising a brow at him.
Hunter frowned awkwardly, his fingers fidgeting nervously. “I… I don’t know.” He murmured. “After what I saw in there… I don’t know how I feel. I don’t know what I am. I… I don’t actually know… anything…” He looked up to Luz as he confessed the truth. His magenta eyes poured out uneasiness, confusion, and torment.
She bit her lip. “Me too… I… What we saw in there was really difficult to take in.” She glanced back at Hunter and rested a hand on his shoulder. “But I’m glad you’re doing okay. You made the right choice by coming here.” She gave him a comforting smile.
Hunter’s eyes gleamed gently as tears formed. I’m glad you’re doing okay…
He scoffed lightly, ignoring the painful emotion. “Yeah… I like it here.”

Weeks went by as Hunter found his place in the school. In those weeks, he switched classes several times and changed tracks even more often. His inability to perform spells like the other witches quickly won him the same fame Luz had achieved. Witches and demons muttered and gossiped in the hallways of the mysterious, powerless witch; The blonde almost no one knew, the quiet unsociable witch, the timid boy who seemed to belong nowhere.
Recently, he had been switched to a history class regarding ancient magic and spells. He walked in timidly, looking across the classroom full of seemingly bored students. Flapjack chirped, telling Hunter he hoped this class went better than the rest. The blonde smiled to himself, seeing how there was an empty spot for him. He quietly made his way towards the solitary witch. Sitting besides the empty seat.
(Y/n) hunched over their desk awkwardly, eyes glued on a notebook full of notes and drawings; scribbled circles with shapes within, random words splayed out describing possible spells and combinations. Their eyes dashed back and forth, anxiously hoping to find answers.
“Hey um… I’m new at Hexside and I was… uh…” (Y/n) looked up as the witch before them struggled to speak. “Well- not NEW new to Hexside. I’m kinda new but I’m new to the class and…” He trailed off, staring at the confused, beautiful, confused witch before him.
“I… need to sit somewhere…” He murmured hurriedly. (Y/n) smiled.
“I sit alone… you can… sit with me if you’d like.” They offered kindly.
He smiled sheepishly, feeling somewhat stupid but relieved. Flapjack chirped happily, popping out beside his shoulder and bouncing happily.
“All right, settle down. I know you’re all VERY anxious to begin today’s history lesson,” the teacher droned. More than half the class groaned helplessly, and the teacher shook their head disapprovingly. They sighed, pinching the bridge of their nose while shutting their eyes tightly. “Titan, why did I chose this out of all the subjects?” They cried helplessly. They let out a heavy breath, “All right! Notebooks out! Let’s begin!”
Hunter perked up excitedly, knowing history was one of his most knowledgeable subjects. The witch next to him perked up anxiously, a pencil ready in their hand as they awaited further instruction.
“Oh!” They exclaimed, turning to Hunter. “I’m (Y/n)!” They whispered happily, they held out their hand, smiling at Hunter. He blushed madly, realizing this was the first witch who had introduced themselves to him.
“I-I’m Hunter!” He murmured sheepishly, taking (Y/n)’s hand and shaking it gently. They smiled to him.
“You’re gonna love this class! It’s great!” They explained excitedly.
“I bet! I love history!” Hunter chirped happily. He couldn’t help but notice how beautiful they were. He suddenly realized the teacher had been explaining something for the past moments. He scurried to grab a notebook out of his bag, hoping to catch up with the subject. He glanced back to (Y/n), blushing lightly as he admired their undying focus on the teacher’s explanation, their (e/c) eyes gleaming.
⋅•⋅⊰∙∘☽༓☾∘∙⊱⋅•⋅
Hunter made his way out of the class with (Y/n) and waved goodbye as they parted ways. Luz watched as Hunter made his way toward her.
“Who was that?” She asked smugly.
Hunter didn’t understand the tone of her voice and proceeded to explain excitedly. “Their name is (Y/n)! They let me sit next to them in class. They’re very professional about their work, they take notes, LOTS of notes, they draw images to help retain information, and they even draw conclusions from their notes and- get this- they’re right almost every time!” Hunter exclaimed as he watched (Y/n) disappear in the crowd.
“Woah…” Luz said plainly in utter surprise. “You learned all that… RIGHT NOW?” Hunter looked back at the confused girl.
“Of course I did. I grew up studying the behaviors of things and witches. That way, it’s easier to determine who they are.”
“Well… maybe,” Luz began to sing, “Instead of studying themmmmm…” She put a hand on his shoulder and smiled smugly once more. “You should be friends,” She wiggled her brows at Hunter.
“What?!” He exclaimed. “I just met them! I-” Hunter glanced back, scanning the area before lowering himself to Luz. “I’m not even sure they actually like me… Maybe they just feel bad that I’m a stupid… scrawny, needy, brat.” He muttered shamefully.
Luz perked up, “What?! No-” She paused and gave Hunter a look. “Okay- maybe BUT-” She put up her hands in a protest, “I kinda know them. They’re sweet and friendly. I bet they did it out of the goodness of their heart.”
Hunter huffed, “If I had a bile sack I’d bet it on you being wrong…” He frowned awkwardly, crossing his arms as he rose up. “But since I don’t… I guessI’ll just have to trust you.”
⋅•⋅⊰∙∘☽༓☾∘∙⊱⋅•⋅
Weeks passed as the young male grew accustomed to his new life. Hunter walked to his class, making his way down the familiar hallway. He felt his heart begin to pick up pace as he knew what he was waiting for. Every day, he anxiously waited for (Y/n) in the hall, and from there they walked to class together.
The witch breathed anxiously, hoping to see what he waited for, His ears perked and a smile spread on his face as he saw them. He hurried down the hall, not wanting to waste a single moment.
“(Y/n)!” He called out, making his way to them.
They turned to him, gleaming. He blushed, admiring their appearance and smile. “Hunter! Hey, how are you?” They asked excitedly.
His heart lept as the young witch embraced him excitedly. “I’m good!” He smiled happily, his skin tingling as (Y/n)’s hands slithered down from his arms to his hands. “Ready for today’s new lesson?” He asked, barely able to contain his excitement.
(Y/n) returned his smile, “Of course I am!” They exclaimed, squeezing his hands. “I’ve told you like a million times- this is my favorite class ever!” The young witch’s eyes gleamed. Hunter’s lips parted slightly as he stared into their eyes, at their smile. Had anyone ever looked at him with such joy before?
He regained his thoughts, blinking slightly as he realized (Y/n) waited for a response. “Huh- right! I know you love this class but I honestly can’t believe it. Everyone in there seems so bothered by the subject!” He scoffed lightly, “Can you believe it?” He asked, “The lack of admiration for the subject, the complete negligence of the wonders behind the history of magic!” He followed (Y/n) to the classroom. They smiled, knowing they had drawn Hunter into an info-dump episode.
“You know,” He started, motioning with his hands as he spoke. “We’re quite
lucky to have so much information regarding ancient witches and magic. With what we know now, we can better understand many of the things they didn’t understand in the past. All of the information today helps us understand and use magic much better and more efficiently. We can do so much more now as witches than in ancient times!”
“Right?!” (Y/n) chimed in, unable to hide their smile from Hunter. Seeing him so excited to talk to them gave them a feeling, a small hope, that perhaps he enjoyed spending time with them.
The two witches continued their rant, barely making it to class on time. They hurried to their shared desk, quieting down as they awaited instruction.
The teacher was rubbing their temples, disregarding the noisy classroom full of students complaining. Finally, they sighed, giving up. “All right! No lesson today! Just- do your work and catch up with whatever it is you need to catch up on!’ They collapsed into their chair, a headache stinging violently. “Titan, help me…”
“Yikes…” Hunter murmured. He looked to (Y/n) and the two broke out laughing. “Well, I guess I WILL be using this time to catch up,” He chirped happily.
(Y/n) smiled, “Pff. I have no need- I’m already way ahead of the course! I spend all my free time studying and reading!”
Hunter smiled at them. “Me too! I’m just going to catch up on some… personal notes for something I’ve been working on.” He pulled out his notebook, flipping to a page full of circles, shapes within loops, and frantically written words followed by question marks.
(Y/n) kept their eyes on their own notes, shyly eyeing Hunter, wondering what he was up to. They blushed suddenly, I should leave him allowing… I think I make it obvious enough already…
The two witches shuffled occasionally, a silent barrier parting the two. Hunter quickly glanced over at (Y/n), blushing madly before looking away. Flapjack chirped teasingly, causing Hunter to panic. You like them, don’t you?
“Shhhh! I’m busy!” He cried out desperately. “But… yes… MAYBE!” He flushed red again, looking to the concentrated witch. Flapjack chirped happily and hopped around the desk. (Y/n) chuckled lightly, looking over at the excited palisman. Their curiosity got the better of them and they shot a quick over to his notebook.
(Y/n) shot up excitedly, “Wait- wait- wait! YOU know about the primitive spell structures?!” They exclaimed. “No way! I’ve been going here forever and NO ONE is familiar with them- not even the teachers!” They beamed at Hunter.
The blonde smiled shyly, the gap between his teeth appearing for a moment. Oh THAT is adorable… (Y/n) smiled to themself as they examined his smile.
He glanced down to his notebook and then back at (Y/n). “Yeah- right?!” He said happily, shifting around to face them. He held his hands out as he began to explain. “I think that this was all before witches developed bile sacks. In that case, they would need to summon magic somehow- and THAT’S why they would have to create spells with glyphs. Rather than just using their own magic, they’d use the Titan’s!”
(Y/n)’s lips parted slightly in complete surprise and awe. “I-.... I never pieced that together!” They said, blushing lightly with slight embarrassment. “I thought I was a nerd…” They murmured quietly, lost in thought.
Hunter flinched back with surprise, “Huh?” He asked plainly.
(Y/n)’s face flushed a dark red as they realized he had heard. “NONONO- I MEANT- uhhh…” Thoughts raced through their head and anxiety burned in their veins. “What I meant was, I’m just really impressed with your extensive knowledge, that’s incredible!”
Hunter smiled sweetly. Oh Titan, that damn smile. (Y/n) couldn’t help but smile back.
The young witch looked away, rubbing the back of his neck nervously. “No one… ever acknowledged that…” He admit hesitantly. “It means… a lot…” He glanced back at (Y/n).
They smiled back, “It’s always nice to be seen- and to belong somewhere.”
Hunter blushed lightly, unable to help the smile that grew. I do belong somewhere.
⋅•⋅⊰∙∘☽༓☾∘∙⊱⋅•⋅
Weeks passed and Hunter anxiously awaited every day of school. Not only was he receiving the education he had always dreamt of, but the connection he had longed for for so, so long. Every day, he waited for (Y/n) at the door of the school, in the halls, and in the classroom. A sudden wave of excitement and satisfaction washed over him every time he saw them, and an indescribable feeling of joy and tranquility filled his soul when they talked and shared moments together.
Hunter waited for (Y/n) in the gym which was being occupied. Apparently, a sudden presentation had been scheduled and everyone was called to the gym. He looked around the room full of students, anxiously looking for (Y/n). Finally, a familiar witch stepped forward.
He beamed at them. “(Y/n)! Over here!” He waved excitedly, hoping to catch their attention.
(Y/n) smiled and rushed to his side. “Hunter! What’s going on, everyone’s confused and I honestly don’t know why or what’s going on.” They looked to the stage where a hooded figure stood between Principal Bump and the illusion’s teacher.
Hunter studied the figure, realizing something was unsettlingly familiar about them. “I don’t know what’s happening but… I don’t think it’s anything good…” He murmured, glaring at the mysterious figure.
“Students, teachers, let me introduce you to the esteemed-”
“Please, Principal Bump,” The figure cut off. “I deserve no accolades.”
His blood ran cold. “No- no no no-” He stepped back in panic. (Y/n) glanced at him, realizing something was horribly wrong.
“Hunter, what is it?” They asked worriedly.
He began to breathe heavily, “He found me,” Was all he choked out.
(Y/n) glanced up, examining the Coven Head. He was explaining something about sigils and multi-tracks. They didn’t understand what it was but they quickly thought of something.
“Okay, just…” They took Hunter’s hands in theirs. “I don’t know what’s happening but stay calm, okay? Don’t cause a scene and maybe they won’t find us.”
Hunter nodded anxiously. Flapjack chirped, hoping to comfort his owner.
⋅•⋅⊰∙∘☽༓☾∘∙⊱⋅•⋅
Before long, Hunter realized he had been on the run once more. Everything happened so quickly he didn’t have a chance to truly digest what had happened. He panted heavily, looking around the empty halls. He glanced back, remembering Gus and him had parted ways when they were ambushed by guards. I hope he’s alright…
The sudden whispering of a familiar voice caught his attention and broke his thoughts. “Pss!” He snapped his head in the direction of the whispering and smiled at the witch. “Hunter! In here!” (Y/n) exclaimed worriedly. They motioned for Hunter to follow them into a janitorial closet. The two witches rushed inside, huddling closely as they breathed heavily in utter panic. (Y/n) could feel the gentle warmth of Hunter’s breath, the fragile heat of his life delicately brushing their neck.
Their breathing slowed, becoming two intermingled waves of air.
A long silence hung in the air as they remained still, two unmoving figures in the small room. Enough fear overwhelmed Hunter to the point he felt his thoughts were loud enough to give away his location.
(Y/n) glanced up and looked at the male, his deep magenta eyes glowing in the room. “Why are they after you?” They whispered hastily. “There’s hundreds of students here but you and Gus are the only two witches they want- why???” They turned to face him. He turned at the same time and, for a moment, their lips almost brushed against each other’s, mere molecules apart.
He frowned, “I should have told you, (Y/n),” He whispered anxiously. “Now you’re in danger! Because of me!” His voice was filled with shame and guilt. Hunter looked into (Y/n)’s eyes.
“Tell me what??” They asked, hunching their shoulders anxiously
The blonde male sighed, his shoulders sinking. He carefully took (Y/n)’s hand’s into his, the same way they had done so minutes ago. He breathed nervously, wishing he had more time. For hours, for days, for weeks he had rehearsed what he would say and how. He would carefully admit everything so as to not startle them. Hunter shut his eyes for a moment, pleading to the Titan that he would atleast do one thing right.
“(Y/n),” Hunter murmured through a broken voice. “The scouts and Grey are after me because I’m the Golden Guard.” He squeezed their hands gently as he admit the truth. (Y/n) gasped, their own grip tightening on Hunter.
“WHAT?!” They almost shouted. Hunter quickly let go of them and wrapped his hands around their neck and mouth, halting the sudden noise.
“SHHHHH!!!!” He pleaded desperately. The two froze, holding their breath as a shadow passed, blocking light from under the door. The figure passed after what seemed like an eternity, and the two witches finally exhaled. Hunter pulled his hands away from (Y/n), curling up in shame.
(Y/n) turned to face the male. “Hunter,” They called gently, “Why didn’t you tell me?”
The two huddled in fear as another set of steps marched past the door, followed by the barking of orders.
Hunter swallowed nervously. “First… It’s kinda difficult to talk about this…” He hissed quietly, hoping the guards wouldn’t hear him. “Second… I ran away from the Emperor’s Coven and now they want to take me back where I will most likely be executed for committing several crimes against the Emperor.” He slurred his words together, speaking quickly with nervousness.
(Y/n) turned to face him again, “And third?” They asked, feeling that he was still hiding something from them.
Hunter sighed, leaning his head back gently against the wall. He breathed in nervously, tapping his gloved finger on what he thought was his leg. (Y/n) blushed, feeling the male’s hand on their leg, anxiously jumping up and down.
“Third-” He muttered, feeling his voice break as he faced every fear he had ever had. “I…” He huffed again. The Golden Guard turned to face (Y/n), “I was afraid you would leave me.” His eyes locked with (Y/n)’s, worry and fear pooling out of his voice and expression.
Their lips parted, “Hunter-” The witch’s shoulders slumped, feeling their heart sink. “Hunter- you should have told me!” They whispered.
“I KNOW!” He exclaimed, covering his face. “I WAS JUST-! UGH!!” He groaned, leaning back again. “I didn’t want to hide this from you! I felt like a liar this whole time. But… I wanted to keep us safe. If word got out that you knew where I’ve been- You would have been just as guilty as I am- I couldn’t risk putting you in danger too!”
“But-” (Y/n) hesitated, trying to find words. “Why would I leave you? Especially if you needed help?!” They raised their voice slightly, frustration and nervousness seeping through.
“BECAUSE-” Hunter roared quietly, “EVERYONE ALREADY HATED ME-” He curled his body to give himself enough room to turn and face (Y/n). “Belos, the Coven Heads, even the few witches I had somehow been able to talk to- THEY ALL HATE ME!” He breathed heavily, restraining himself from having a full outlash.
The male sighed, collapsing back again. “I thought… if you had heard about me already… you’d hate me too, and leave me alone…” He fought back tears, feeling the remnants of his soul shatter. “I was just afraid of how you’d react…”
They froze for a moment, trying to gather their thoughts. The witch they had believed to be the second most powerful being on all the Boiling Isles was huddled up, cowarding besides them in a janitorial closet. The second in command had been a young boy, one without magic; one without anything.
“I…” (Y/n) slumped back too, almost crushing themself in the closet. “Hunter, why were you so afraid of how I would react?” They asked, longing for an answer. “If anything– I should be the worried one! I never had anyone before you!” (Y/n) exclaimed gently, trying to keep their voice as soft as possible.
He looked away, his heart racing as he tried to stir up any remaining courage. “I don’t know- I think it’s because I liked you more.” He blurted awkwardly.
“Huh?” (Y/n) sputtered.
The blonde looked up, a stray strand of gold gently swaying before his eyes. “I… like you more…” He murmured. “It wasn’t like the others- it wasn’t just being okay with being near you- I WANTED to be near you!” He explained.
(Y/n)’s eyes widened, their heart beginning to race as they pieced together what was happening.
“And it wasn’t just that!” He exclaimed softly. “I… I got this strange feeling every time I’d see you! It was like… if abomination magic was tickling me inside…” Hunter muttered awkwardly, unable to genuinely describe what he felt.
The young witch blushed deeply. Their heart melted as they watched him try to explain. “Oh…” They squeaked plainly, too shocked to speak.
“And-” Hunter began again, “It’s so strange! My face would suddenly get hot and turn red! Flapjack would always tell me, and Luz would tease me- I don’t even get why though, it’s so weird…” He suddenly realized that the entire time they had been in the closet together, he was feeling everything all over again. He froze, attempting to process anything.
(Y/n) felt their stomach flutter anxiously, their breath began to pick up pace as they became overwhelmed with emotions.
The two flinched at the barking of orders, huddling closer together. Hunter instinctively shielded (Y/n) with his arm, shutting his eyes hastily as he did so. The two witches held their breath, waiting for the worst.
The two became aware of their breathing again. They were close enough to have their faces touch. (Y/n)’s eyes fluttered open, realizing that Hunter was shielding them. The bags under his eyes seemed darker now and his breathing more desperate. (Y/n) suddenly realized how horrified he must have been.
They want us so that they can force sigils onto our wrists. But… they want to kill him.
Their eyes began to tear up. Hunter had been risking his life for weeks every time he was seen publicly. If anyone had caught sight of him, it would be over. Yet he had stayed, ignored every chance of being caught and anxiously waited for (Y/n) wherever he went. He had chosen to keep risking his life- to be with (Y/n).
“Hunter-” They murmured, afraid of asking. His eyes slowly opened and he looked into (Y/n). He nodded, allowing them to continue. They inhaled deeply, “Hunter, you said you liked me- right? More than the others?” They felt their stomach drop.
He hesitated, his lips flattening awkwardly as he nodded. “I mean… yes? I DON’T KNOW!” His face burned red. “I just…I cared about you too much to get you involved in any of this, but… I couldn’t help but stay with you…” He met their eyes. “I just wanted to be with you.” He spoke clearly, forgetting they were hiding, forgetting he could be killed, forgetting everything.
(Y/n)’s eyes watered, their heart stopping for a moment.
“Oh- Hunter!” They exclaimed.
(Y/n) cupped his cheeks, pulling him towards them and smashing their lips down onto his. Hunter gasped, utterly shocked with the unfamiliar action. (Y/n) pulled him closer, anxiety and excitement burning their blood. Never had they had the will to do anything like this, never had they been so willing to do something so despicably risky. Yet their passion for Hunter completely overwhelmed every sense they had, every coherent and clear thought.
Hunter melted, his eyes gently closing as his hands reached for (Y/n)’s. He didn’t know what was happening, he didn’t know how he felt; he could barely think at all. His mind slowed, thoughts and worries slurring together into clumps of nothingness. He instinctively pushed himself closer to (Y/n), his own lips pressing closer to theirs. They gently grazed every molecule, passionately running over the delicate, soft skin.
An eternity passed, and (Y/n) gently parted from Hunter, their lips lingering together for another moment. The kiss ended, and they placed their forehead against his, shaky breaths filling the void of the closet.
“Is this even safe?” His voice cracked slightly, still overwhelmed by the flood of new emotions. “For us? Here? Together?”
(Y/n) smirked, “I’m a wild witch, sweetheart. No Emperor or Scout is gonna stop me.” They smiled smugly.
Hunter smiled, his gorgeous magenta eyes glowing. His large nose crinkled as he revealed the gap between his teeth again. The two witches stared into each other’s eyes, not knowing how close they were to being found.
They huddled in the closet for minutes, (Y/n)’s lips tracing his neck carefully, kissing it gently, and leaving small pecks everywhere. Hunter smiled, wrapping his gloved hands around their wrists, wishing the unknown emotion would last forever. He pulled them closer, letting his eyes flutter shut as he indulged the love he never knew.
Silence filled the world around them, steps hadn’t been heard or shadows seen for minutes. The two carefully rose, hand in hand. (Y/n) peaked out of the closet, a line of light gently washing them.
“I think it’s safe, they murmured. Stepping out. Hunter quickly followed, still holding (Y/n)’s hand. He carefully peered at the world around him, unsure whether it was real or an illusion. The two stepped forward, hand in hand.
“Aha! There you are!” The coven head’s voice sang as it lurched at Hunter. The boy snapped around screaming as he was torn away from (Y/n). “Oh, hush! You’re making such as a big deal out of all this…” He muttered bitterly, annoyance and disgust crawling from his voice.
“NO!” Hunter screamed, kicking and squirming violently in Grey’s arms.
“Hunter!” (Y/n) ran forward, being stopped by two scouts as they broke another illusion spell, revealing themselves in the hall. “LET ME GO!” (Y/n) demanded,
Hunter huffed wildly, “I command you TO STOP!” He bellowed, staring down the scouts.
The two perked, a confused peep emitting from their lips.
“Technically… he IS our superior.” One murmured, holding out his hand.
Grey’s expression fell, his lip and nose crinkling in annoyance. “Well, right now he’s a runaway-” He sang again. “And our dearest emperor wants him back!”
(Y/n) tried to wrestle away, tugging and pulling forward. “LET HIM GO!” They barked, breathing heavily with terror and rage.
“Ohh… I’m afraid I can’t.” Grey yanked Hunter closer, “You see, he’s commit several crimes against the empire: Treason, running away, resisting capture- hiding a wild witch…” He smirked, looking down at the paralyzed boy. “I’m afraid the only punishment awaiting him is petrification!” He chirped, smirking grimly as he kicked Hunter down.
“HUNTER- NO!” (Y/n)’s eyes suddenly glowed a vicious purple. (Y/n) roared, summoning a massive wave of abomination magic, knocking down Grey and the Scouts. They snagged Hunter’s hand, “C’MON!” They dragged him down the hall, gaining distance before summoning their palisman.
“W-WHErE A-ARE WWWeeeE GOiiIING-” He sputtered, barely breathing as he stumbled behind them.
(Y/n) swiftly pulled out their staff, swinging Hunter around just as it formed. He landed awkwardly on it as it materialized, wobbling unsteadily.
“The healing homeroom! Everyone else is hiding there!” They swung around again, flashing down the hall and towards the homeroom.

(Y/n) and Hunter stood chuckling, watching as Grey muttered helplessly, being dragged away by two Scouts.
The captain stood at the edge of the ship, growling lowly. “When Emperor Belos catches wind of this…” He glared at the crowd of students and teachers.
Principle Bump smiled, “I’m sure he’ll be thrilled to learn that one of his captains was defeated by a couple teenagers…"
The two witches laughed again, ignoring the bickering that continued. The school cheered as the captain turned away, leaving them behind. The door of the ship closed, lifting gently towards the sky.
Amity and Willow approached Gus, “I can’t believe you took down a coven head…” Amity murmured in awe.
Gus stared upward thoughtfully. “Yeah… and I almost went down with him…” He replied.
Hunter raised a brow, “Is Grey gonna be alright?” He smirked, looking down at his companion.
Gus froze, “Uhhhhh…. Probably?” He responded unsurely, causing both him and Hunter to chuckle.
A group of students approached Hunter, all sharing the same anxiousness and curiosity.
“Hunter! What’s going on at the castle?!” Skara asked.
“Did you actually leave the Emperor’s Coven?!” Viny stared at Hunter, waiting for an answer.
Edric raised his arms slightly, “Have you ever sneezed in your mask?”
Barcus barked.
The people crave the truth.
Hunter breathed in nervously, glancing to (Y/n) before parting his lips to speak.
A mass of abomination magic rose up, twisting and oozing. The students screamed, stepping back or stumbling away.
“Before any of you mutter another word," A grand and sophisticated voice announced, “I have a few, much more important questions.”
Hunter turned around, feeling the familiar presence. “Darius- I mean-” He frowned awkwardly, his cheeks flushing red. “Dad…” He murmured gently.
(Y/n)’s jaw dropped. “WAIT WAIT WAIT-” They held up their hands. “OKAY FIRST, you were the Golden Guard-” Their eyes scanned left and right in confusion, attempting to form coherent thoughts. “Then you RAN AWAY from the Emperor’s Coven, hid here with ME OF ALL WITCHES,” They looked into Hunter’s magenta eyes, “Almost got caught, took down a captain AND Head Witch-” They stepped forward, “AND YOUR FATHER IS THE MOST POWERFUL WITCH OF THE THE COVEN HEADS- THE HEAD WITCH FOR THE ABOMINATION COVEN?!?!” Their jaw dropped, looking from Hunter to Darius. The tall man smirked, his dark skin gleaming in the sun.
The witch smiled proudly. “I suppose your question may have been… slightly more important.” He placed a hand on Hunter’s shoulder, pulling the witch closer to him.
“Yup…” The blonde squeaked meekly, looking at (Y/n).
Darius cleared his throat. “Now, if it wasn’t already obvious… you young man,” He turned to Hunter. “Are in a LOT of trouble.” He placed both hands on his shoulder, kneeling down in front of his son.
“I know! I didn’t mean to– Dad I’m so sorry!” He broke hastily, wishing he could undo the damage.
“Ah!” Darius interrupted. “Not with me-” He looked up at the ship flying away, slowly disappearing into the horizon. “With them…” He smirked smugly, his lips curling into a proud smile. “You sure taught Grey a lesson. I think that’ll show him for messing with my son.” He chuckled, looking back proudly at the boy before him.
Hunter’s eyes watered. His lips parted slightly, revealing the gap between his teeth once more. He lunged forward, embracing his father tightly. Darius closed his eyes, pulling his son closer to him, relieved he was safe. Tears gently burned Hunter’s eyes, feeling the love he had always longed for. After a long moment, the two broke apart gently.
Darius turned to face (Y/n). “As for you…” He muttered, rising back up and glaring down at the small witch. He placed a heavy hand on their shoulder, examining their entire being. (Y/n)’s breath hitched and they froze, fearing the worst.
Darius’ expression softened. “Take care of my son, please.” He smiled smugly. “I think you two have a lot of potential.” (Y/n) and Hunter both flashed mortified expressions to each other, sharing the same dark hue on their faces.
“W-what?! What do you mean?!” Hunter asked, stepping in front of his father.
The head witch laughed again. “I have to keep an eye on you somehow,” He sang. Flapjack chirped, revealing a small abomination under his wing. Hunter blushed madly.
“WAIT- YOU’VE BEEN WATCHING ME?!” He screamed, utterly mortified.
Darius threw his head back and laughed, “Of course I have. I can’t leave you alone with all those spies and scouts crawling everywhere.” He muttered with disgust, shuddering slightly.
(Y/n) held out their hand.
“I uh…” Hunter snuggled his nose under (Y/n)’s neck. “I may also…. Maybe be a Grimmm… walker???” He murmured quietly.
“I don’t mind,” (Y/n) whispered gently. “I love you the same, no matter what.”
A/N: I apologize to everyone who has been waiting for requests or for responses to comments. I don’t wish to do a huge trauma dump or anything but something happened over the summer which was just too much for me. I had hoped to be able to start again soon but I was unable to push through. I didn’t mean to take a break this long, and I apologize to everyone. I am doing much better now and have stabilized. I have not forgotten you, I swear! I just needed a lot of time to calm myself. I am happy to be writing again. I’ll start posting regularly again and, as promised, once a week or bi-weekly.
I also made the horrible decision to take 3 college level classes which are not only eating my time BUT EATING ME ALIVE. I may also start a Psych x Reader book, so if you have any requests for that- DM me! (Mostly because there is a lack of Lassie content *sniffles sadly*). Thank you all for being so patient. I will catch up… eventually. Thank you so much for all the love my oneshots have received. Requests are always open! Thank you! I love you all dearly!

Hayo! I saw your requests were open and I was wondering if you could do hunter with a s/o that has bird wings.
da B I R B >:)
Wings || Hunter Noceda
Synopsis - Hunter Noceda, being absolutely obsessed infatuated with your wings.
Warnings - Hunter being a brat.
Requests are opened; headcanons only
↳ Mother fucker is obsessed with the function and mobility of your wings.
↳ Not to mention, the softness of your feathers.
↳ He once asked if you could dye part of your feathers red. Doesn’t matter if it was before or after Flapjack-
↳ Warp him up in your feathers, he will fall asleep.
↳ Just pull into a hug and warp your wings around him. This man will nap.
↳ Honestly prefers your wings over any blanket.
↳ If you have wings cause you’re a Harpy, mans is down on his knees.
↳ Partly because Hunter is terrified of Harpy’s. Harpy Eda scares him a lot. Mostly because “Oh my Titan! Imagine how much power and mobility you’d have in a fight! What if-“
↳ He’s excited.
↳ If you can use your feathers like actual bladed weapons, something similar to Hawks I suppose, he’d be curious as to how they cut through anything.
↳ “But they’re soft, they wrap around me and it feels like I’m lying on clouds. How do they cut through other weapons?-“
↳ Something I know happens, is if you ever take Hunter for a flight, you’d have to hold him bridal style. He acts terrified of being on your back, claiming he’d fall because of your speed and height.
↳ He probs would, but he’s really saying that so he can have another reason for you to carry him.
↳ Hunter once fell cause he was being a brat. After that, he’d cling to you in fear. He was never a brat when flying again.
↳ If Luz or Amity are bullying him, he’ll go over to you and wrap your wing around himself, while he climbs into your lap.
↳ Hunter has a feather of yours on a string that sits around his neck. He holds it when he gets nervous or shy, or he’s thinking of you while smiling and blushing cause someone brought you up in a conversation-
↳ Hunter loves watching you fight with your wings, though he still worries you might get hurt.
↳ He thinks that even though you’ve been fighting before you even met him, it’d still be his fault if you got hurt cause he promised to protect you, especially against Belos.
↳ He questions if you eat chicken. Yes, another Hawks related thing-
↳ If you don’t eat chicken because it feels weird, he’d also never eat chicken or bird related anything again.
↳ Hunter loves to cuddle with you and Flapjack. He’s also thankful you two get along great.
↳ You and Flap made a pack to pull on his noodle hair strand. You do it gently on course, but you tug enough to get his attention.
↳ Actin’ like you don’t already got that shit-
↳ Hunter definitely brags about you to Luz, Amity, Gus, Willow, Vee, and Flapjack.
↳ “My partner is cooler!” “Wow, you all need a Palisman to fly. My partner doesn’t even need one, she has super cool wings.” “My partner can fly better and faster than any of us. I don’t see why you’re all trying to compete.”
↳ It all ends when Mama Camila comes in and tells him to stop bullying his friends.
↳ Naturally, he agrees, and even apologises.
↳ Then when Mama Camila leaves, he grins and sticks his tongue out at all of them.
↳ Just smack him upside the head, he’ll listen then.<3
↳ All I can say is this boy loves your wings, any colour, any size, any added abilities, anything!

hii can I request hunter x witch!reader where the reader catches human cold like when luz catched Demon Realm mold(?) and hunter takes care of them^^
ty♡
A/n: I have a cold while writing this-
Luz had asked you to go to the human realm for a bit. And you said yes without hesitation. But she had warned you of how cold it was. No matter. You brought a heavy jacket before going. You also grabbed a hat to cover your ears.
But once you got there the hat served more of a purpose than covering your ears. Well, it did cover your ears, but now from the cold and not just from others' eyes. A thin layer of snow covered the ground. The cold air bit at your nose and ankles, causing you to run to Luz's house,
When you finally got there you didn't bother to knock and just ran in. "Y/n there you are!" You heard Luz say, "You were the last one here and we were worried!" We? You looked around to see Amity, Gus, Willow, and Hunter. The gangs all here.
"I'm sorry if I had known that you were worried I would have come faster." That was a lie. You were going as fast as you could but your ankles felt numb. "It's fine just sit down. I'll get you a blanket." You nodded and sat down by where Hunter was sitting.
Despite Luz getting you a blanket you decided to cuddle into him to gain some warmth. Also because it was nice to just cuddle with him sometimes. "Holy- Are you okay!?" Hunter said once your skin made full contact with him
"Yeah, I'm just really cold-" Suddenly a blanket was thrown on you and him. You let out a pleased hum. A smile spread across your face. The rest of the night went relatively fine. But right before you left Luz asked if all of you wanted a sleepover, which everyone agreed to.
You fell asleep relatively quickly. Feeling pretty comfy. Once you woke up however your nose was super stuffed and your throat hurt. You coughed which irritated your throat more. You groaned and you suddenly heard a voice.
"Oh, you're up!" Luz said from behind you, "What's wrong?" "I have a stuffy nose and my throat really hurts." You cringed at the sound of your voice. Luz thought for a moment. "You probably caught a cold nothing serious... hopefully." "What do you mean hopefully!?" You accidentally yelled
She shushed you, gesturing to the others. "It's called the common cold, but I'm not sure how it witches." She walked closer to you, "It's kinda like the common mold back on the Isles. Excluding the mushrooms... And the deliriousness. Okay, there's nothing that similar besides the name, but if I was able to survive a demon realm sickness, you should be able to survive a human realm sickness."
"I'm just going to go home can you tell the others." She nodded. You got up, put on your hat and jacket, and went to the door. Just as your hand reached the handle you turned around. "What's the likelihood of someone seeing me teleport to the portal?" You asked Luz. "Not likely, nobody besides us really goes there."
You waved and wrapped yourself in abomination goop. But when you teleported you didn't arrive in front of the portal. Instead, you arrived almost falling into into the water. You backed up and groaned slightly. The teleport took more out of you than you anticipated.
You slugged your way towards your house. Despite this being normal for humans it was taking a toll on your body. You eventually got to your house and immediately flopped on your couch. You were on your right side and snot clogged your right nostril. You cringed and closed your body into itself. Even though you woke up a few moments earlier you slowly fell back asleep.
You woke back up to a fluffy blanket placed on you. Out of panic of suddenly having a blanket on you, you threw it off of you. Suddenly you saw your boyfriend's face by you. "Are you okay?" He asked concern lacing his voice. "Are you the one who placed the blanket on me?" He nodded. "Okay sorry, I just panicked. "It's fine you don't need to apologize."
You sniffled. "Do you have a tissue?" "One sconed." He left and then came back with a tissue. You blow your nose. "Ugh." You said looking at the wet tissue. You went over to a nearby trash can and almost fell over after a few steps. The only reason you didn't is that Hunter caught you. He picked you up and placed you down on your bed.
"Can you make soup?" You asked. Hunter inhaled through his teeth. "You know I'm not the best at cooking." "I don't care I just need something warm." Hunter nodded then leaned down and kissed you. You swatted him away. "Please don't. I don't want to make you sick." Hunter let out I light chuckle. "It would be worth it to make you feel loved." He said with pride. You grumble. He smiled sweetly, "I'll make sure you're better in no time! Trust me."

Yandere Golden Guard | Hunter (Platonic Scenario - "That Old Fire")
Warnings: Fantasy Violence, Mention of Blood, Toxic Mindsets.
Word Count: 5,046.
A.N. – The illustration comes at the hands of Mike Austin, a storyboard artist for the series.
Footsteps amplified by the stone in the walls echoed as booms throughout the palace hallway. Hurriedly, you followed along behind until the door to one of the castle’s many antechambers was haphazardly thrown open. Within moments, the two of you had entered, and the door was again shut.
A poignant silence deafened the room, and while you acknowledged the urge to break it, something within cautioned you against it. Your companion, twitching and trembling, had taken to pacing the cramped area. Every five steps, he’d stop, muttering to himself, his ashy blond hair bouncing as he jerked his body from side to side, as if arguing with invisible foes.
Although you remained closer to the doorway than was probably necessary, a familiar sense of tiredness, coupled with annoyance, worked its way up within you. Time again, your companion had these episodes, and each time, they seemed to grow more visceral, more impassioned. It was as though something deep within had been attempting to claw itself free, and with every episode, every slight, whatever it was writhed that much closer to the surface.
It was the fifth time this month, and the month wasn’t even halfway through. A whisper, and your companion’s hand lunged from his side. Barely a second later, an audible zap sent a metallic cylindrical object flying from its perch atop a stack of nearby crates and soaring across the room.
The object was a yardarm, a horizontal component to attend one of the many flags of royal heraldry that were scattered across the room. The polished yardarm did little damage to the crates into which it smashed, but the clicking as the spearhead caromed from surface to surface drowned out any opportunity for interruption.
"Belos doesn't trust me! He thinks I'm nothing but a kid…” A huff escaped, scarcely audible as the spearhead made its final bounces. “He thinks I’m not good enough to do such an important job, and you know what? What if he’s right? What if I’m not, and this was my only chance? If I could have gathered some stupid recruits and brought them, then he’d have to take me seriously! Well, good luck with that now...” He scoffed, sweat forming on his brow.
You stood there, motionless, eyes cast over his sunken and shaking form. You knew he’d be upset at the failure to complete the mission but hadn't forseen it hitting him this hard. His hands twisted, and his eyes seemed to dart around the room, almost as if expecting Emperor Belos to come lurking behind any of the assorted tapestries.
“Failure,” the word haunted him, a mantra whispered in memory of his every mistake. “Why did I think volunteering for another mission would be a good idea? Nice one, Hunter! You’re a true professional. Making the family proud, huh?” He'd flung his hands up into the air in a dramatic gesture.
The rhetorical questioning was something you’d grown accustomed to, for better or worse. Once he started down that line of questioning, though, there was nowhere positive things could go.
You spoke softly, neither with condescension nor timorousness. “Hey. You are not a failure. Belos let you take on the mission, right?” You paused for a moment, allowing his breathing to slow before you continued. “He didn’t want that little demon he has following him, not any of those punk-head mages, either. And he didn’t say you were off the job, despite everything. You know what that means?”
He had stopped with his own line of questioning, and while his head remained tilted down at the stone floor, you could tell his nervous movements had lessened. You approached, not quite to the point of standing above him, but close enough to allow no mishearing of your words.
All he needed was a little nudge, and he’d be pulled away from those nasty thoughts eating away at him.
“It means the mission is still on.” Your fists clutched the ends of your gloves, drawn up to your chest, and rocked to and fro. “Maybe you just need a little help? I’m already off duty for the day, so I'll help you. We’ll go headhunting together, bag some recruits, and show all those dopey mages how wrong they were! What do you say, friend?”
In one swift motion, his eyes lifted from the ground and widened. The shadow of happiness crept onto his face and, beside it, a hint of worry about how short it might last.
He looked at you like a boy who was seeing the dawn. In his rose-coloured gaze was relief at having seen it after questioning for so long whether he would.
Hunter pushed himself to his feet as a knight would upon receiving a quest from his liege, and he offered his hand. “Let's go.”
You offered a slight smile, adorned your mask, and set off behind Hunter. The mission wouldn’t be easy, but it would be worth it.
-------
It took more time than it should have to find Hexside, but once the two of you laid eyes on it, there was no mistaking it. The school was a distinguished landmark, separated from the Titan’s ribs surrounding it, with its dense foliage and rolling hills that seemed to swallow the place.
Still, you and Hunter could see various students and staff meandering across the grounds, and while you investigated the landscape, Hunter scanned the student body.
“They don’t know it yet, but they’ll love being in the Emperor’s Coven! We’ll sell them on sleeping in until 6 A.M., ditching their lame friends for better ones, and learning the best kind of magic there is… Rules and authority!”
You weren’t sure whether Hunter was talking to you, himself, or someone else, but same as before, you didn’t feel the need to try and take the wind from his sails. You’d be there to support, as you’d done before, win or lose.
“I’ll go in first since I’m supposed to lead the mission, okay? But you stay close by in the event we have to fight some of the other coven reps for the recruits. Those guys will do anything to see me fail, so be ready, okay?”
He wasn't dour like before, and his body had shifted to one of nervous twitches in the face of some uncertain future rather than ruminating on the difficulties of the past. His head held higher, and his eyes seemed to fill with that curious gleam again. You wondered briefly if he'd even noticed your staring, but before the question could be answered, you nodded.
Releasing a quick breath, the two of you set off for the grounds of the school. You’d need to change your clothes and stash your uniforms for the mission, and with a reminder of that to Hunter, a fast spell had ensured the two of you looked the part of regular, blissfully unaware, students rather than disciplined soldiers of the emperor.
With Hunter in tow, you wandered the grounds, occasionally socialising with students and other creatures you could only assume were faculty. No one seemed inclined to check your respective identities, and neither of you cared to overshare. If agents of the Coven Heads were present or any practitioners of wild magic, it wouldn't do to draw too much attention to yourselves.
After what felt like hours, the two of you emerged from one of the many pathways around the school into what appeared to be a courtyard. Bleachers formed a barrier on one side, and across from them, a stretch of wood formed another.
Despite being so close to the school, the dense vegetation managed to obscure vision from the courtyard in at least two directions, but parts of the main campus, jutting out above the bleachers, still seemed to cast a watchful eye upon the area.
Any activity here was purposely made to be seen by an audience.
Hunter redirected your attention with a quiet grunt back to the far side of the courtyard, where six of what you could only assume were students lined up in two teams of three. They adorned themselves with knee pads, exercise shorts, and various sports shoes.
One of the students, a three-eyed girl with violet-coloured hair, seemed to be the most animated of the group, boasting of her prowess in the game known as “grudgby” and hurling unflattering accusations at the students gathered opposite her.
Within seconds, the students were casting magic, shouting at one another, and flying across the courtyard, and at every opportunity, the velvet-haired girl continued to roar out insults.
Hunter scoffed at the brash display, keen to move on, but your snickering compelled him to turn and face you.
“And you weren’t like that to the conscripts and weekend warriors they had to bring down after we made it to the bottom of the mountain? Don’t tell me you’ve forgotten?” You offered a cheeky smile, and Hunter, mind aflush with memories, wrenched his head away. His cheeks had developed a tinge of red, and he’d instinctively reached for a mask that was no longer there.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about…” he stuttered, neck craned. “I—We… were gracious in victory. That’s what the emperor expected, and that’s what we did.”
“That’s what we did after you had the training supervisor tally up the scores four different times to repeat that our team had won… Handily.”
Hunter fell silent, the red on his face glowing brighter as his shoulders locked up again.
“If we kicked out everybody with a bad attitude, neither of us would have been selected for anything beyond cleaning duty.”
Hunter offered no response, mouth straight and flummoxed by your argument.
“Let’s give them a shot. If they’re all talk, we’ll move on, but if not, then maybe we’ve found some of our recruits. Plus, if you end up being right, I’ll let you say, ‘I told you so.’ Sound good?” You offered a soft smile, careful not to interrupt Hunter as he reclaimed his bearings. He didn’t like being bombarded with questions when he was flustered and didn’t care for swift, sudden moves either.
Hunter’s head slowly rose, and he bore a slight yet noticeable smile on his face. “All right. Let’s do it!” His shoulders relaxed with his next breath, but you could still see a touch of red on his face as you marched past him towards the courtyard.
Grudgby, as it turned out, was a mixture of a capture-the-flag game and a close quarters combat course. The rules were of limited interest to you, save for the opportunity embraced by seemingly every member of both teams to clobber one another with magic or their fists when an opponent came too close.
It wasn’t easy, certainly, and there was a clear possibility of injury, but the game was exciting. Hunter elected to watch from the first row of bleachers, but you found yourself knee-deep in a match, tasked with defence. When an opportunity came to guard against opponents, you fared well.
The soldiers of the Emperor’s Coven did not yield to their enemies.
-------
Another goal defended, and you’d lost track of time. Another point against your team prevented, and in the stupor that came with that train of through, you’d neglected to notice the velvet-haired girl, Boscha, charging you from another direction.
Her teammate had been decidedly less coordinated and inclined to deception, charging at you head-on, but Boscha was a different animal. As her teammate was flung back, Boscha advanced on your left flank, just outside your periphery. She surged toward the goal, unleashing a blast of magic powerful enough to send you plummeting into the grass.
Your vision went black for a moment, and your ears rang with a tumultuous melody. Something high-pitched sounded to command the field, and within moments, you could hear a frenzy of concerned questions. Your face had become buried in the grass from the fall, and you were unable to immediately answer.
Unbeknownst to you, Hunter had risen from the bleachers, determined to approach but had yet to sort through the crowd. His breath quickened to a subtle pant, and he hastened to view the scene for himself.
A member of your team, a neon green-haired girl named Amity, had crouched at your side. She gently wove her hands across your limbs, chest, and head, checking for open wounds and any lingering magical damage.
Amity leaned towards you and, upon turning your head, a gasp escaped her that she tried to stifle.
Hunter's trained ear caught the start of it. “What?” he asked, his voice rising as he turned to Amity. “What is it?”
Folding her hands on her lap, Amity sat up and kept her eyes down. “Nothing. They just had some dirt on their face.”
The slight pause after the word “just” caused Hunter to tighten his grip on the staff. He gritted his teeth, narrowed his eyes and struggled with his innate distrust of the situation. Relocating, his eyes locked onto your form as he maneuvered closer to you, but barely a second later, he pressed his lips into a straight line and stormed in her direction.
Amity widened her eyes and raised her arms when a gloved hand clutched her left shoulder, and a grunt flew out her mouth as she was shoved aside.
Hunter stood in her place and searched for the reason behind her surprise, nearly dropping his staff when he saw it.
The voices of friends, memories, nightmares swelled like the tolls of broken bells.
Despite this, Hunter could not rid himself of the thought that your wound mirrored his. Back when it was fresh and still stung like the point of a fire bee, it was dripping red. The magic blast had singed a streak of burnt skin across your jaw and cheek, just as the mystical vine had sliced a stripe up his flesh.
His scar began to itch, and Hunter reached out to scratch it when he realised he had been picking at it for the last minute.
The drop in his stomach brought a wave of cold sweat over his head. It was as if a rainstorm had developed and poured only on him, chilling his bones and drawing shuddering breaths from his lips.
Strips of yellow and red magic crackled at the end of his staff. He squeezed it until his hand shook and his knuckles turned white.
As soon as he spun towards Boscha, every Hexside student on his side of the court rushed to block his path. Multiple shouts of “Woah!” and “Easy!” spilt from the group as they formed a half-circle about him, many with their hands up high to deflect any far-reaching spells.
In the confusion, other students loafing nearby had arrived, some to help, and others to simply gawk. At least a dozen students had made their way onto the courtyard by that point, including another young witch identified as Luz.
Boscha, for her part, stood comfortable across the field, bragging to her entourage about scoring points and retelling the story of how she’d knocked the enemy team’s ‘newbie’ straight into the dirt.
You were lucid by this point and, though still somewhat slurred in speech, stable. That fact eluded Hunter, however, who struggled against Luz barely half a court away. You noticed that, amidst the students seeking to deny him his quarry, he’d shouldered and darted past as many as possible to bring himself closer to Boscha.
He was perhaps fifteen metres from her before Luz succeeded in halting his lunge forward. Hunter fought against Luz, placing a strenuous emphasis on every third word. “She does not get to do that and just walk away!”
Luz dug in her heels, pressing her weight into the staff. Though Hunter was almost certainly physically stronger than this witch, you could tell there was something about her that commanded his attention; it seemed as though they knew each other.
“No one is saying what she did is okay!”
A shout of fury burst out of Hunter as he shoved Luz back a step. “Then why are you defending her?”
“I'm not!” Luz relaxed her clenched teeth and softened her furrowed brows into a look of sympathy, her voice lowering alongside it. “I'm trying to stop you from doing something you'll regret.”
Hunter glowered at Boscha from across the court, his head down and his eyes looking up. “I won't regret it.”
He spared Luz a final glance before ripping his staff free of her and marching once more to you, his fury temporarily repressed whilst he had something else to swallow his attention.
“Hunter?” As he lifted you from the ground in silence, you pressed a hand to your cheek and winced at the burn. “Why is my face on fire?” you mumbled, to which Hunter offered a sullen glance.
He laid your arm across his back and shoulders. “Come on. I'm taking you home.” His eyes seemed far away with that remark, but his voice rang sincere.
With a nervous but hopeful smile, Gus, a friend of Luz’s, dashed forward. “Hey, it's just a little burn! Have someone from the Healing Coven take a look at it, and we can start round two.”
After ensuring you could stand on your own, Hunter whirled towards him and pointed a finger at the distant shape of Boscha. “I say we don't want to play with anyone who thinks this is okay!” His finger swung round to your wound.
Taking a breath, Willow, another friend of Luz, closed her eyes before reopening them with a frown. “You can leave if you want, Hunter, but it's their choice.” She extended a hand to you.
His face reddened at this.
Hunter clenched his fists at his side and looked between you and the group. “You agree with me, right?” There was a layer of desperation in his words that gave you pause.
It felt much more personal than it should have. Hunter had known more of these students than he had let on, and though the burn on your face continued to sting, your attention remained directed elsewhere. It hurt to know that Hunter hadn't been forthcoming about the environment into which you'd both entered, but you couldn't quite blame him for it.
Everything about this situation upset him, but if you spirited away with him, he'd spend the rest of the mission upset. As usual, he'd blame himself, and that wasn't the point of any of this.
Firmly, but not aggressively, you shook the hand of Willow, offering a slight nod in affirmation. “I don't see why I can't stick around for the end.”
Hunter uttered a slight grunt but voiced no further complaints, eyeing the contact until it broke.
You resolved that while you wouldn’t enter the second event, and would instead watch, you’d give Hunter a chance to collect himself and cool off. Pressuring him into conversation before he was ready wouldn’t help, and for the purposes of the mission, the both of you were simply students with but limited history together.
Hunter made his way to the bleachers, shoulders tensed and brooding. You’d elected to sit on the bench proximate to the court, presumably where the teams would sit in between time on the field.
Gus and Willow, after being thanked for their assistance, departed to pursue their own activities, but even if they hadn’t, you paid them little mind.
The sounds of the grudgby match echoed far beyond the court on which they took place: spells cast, players sent flying, and occasional obscenities hurled. The injuries sustained, non-life-threatening but certainly inhibiting, all reminded you of training. The organised chaos, the stenches of fear and exertion, and the desperation for success were all familiar bedfellows.
You had a slight smile on your face as you watched the madness unfold.
Casting only a peripheral glance to your side, you confirmed that Hunter lingered in his perch upon the top row. Given that he hadn’t already returned to sit beside you, he must still have been sore over your disagreement. It was something you’d have to talk out once the mission was over.
-------
After a vicious and profanity-laden game, the braggart, Boscha, and her team claimed victory. Amity and her team fought well, scoring several goals in rapid succession early in the game, but Boscha’s malevolent energy could not be matched.
She kicked, spat, cursed, and cast at every opportunity, and though it left more than one member of the other team requiring bandages by the time of the game’s conclusion, her approach had paid off.
Simmering with pride, Boscha had soon taken to rehashing everything she and the rest of her team did to secure victory with her fellow grudgby players. Amity’s team was more personable, choosing to tend to one another’s wounds, clean up the courtyard, and move as a group towards a path back to the school grounds.
After turning in your direction, Boscha spied you sitting alone. A devious smile crawled onto her face, and she started to approach you. Unfortunately for you, the injury to your face had resumed itching, and while you sought to address that issue, Boscha made her approach.
The rest of her team made no attempt to regain her attention and instead began one-by-one to slip away from the courtyard as well. You spied Luz, the human witch, moving at high speed, but your attention broke from her in a fresh round of scratching.
Boscha had nearly closed the distance, but amid a scratching fit, you’d shut your eyes. Further unbeknownst to you, Hunter was on the move. Still, the game was over, and the only thing left to do was to link back up with Hunter, decide how to proceed.
Turning about, you noticed he was no longer atop his nest in the bleachers, and for a moment, your blood froze. Was it possible that in your awe at the game, you’d failed to spot a threat? Had something occurred on the bleachers, so close to you, without your knowledge? Had Hunter been discovered and abducted? Had this whole game been a well-planned ruse by the enemies of the emperor to seize his nephew?
Taking a deep breath and letting it flow out slowly, you evaluated the situation. Luz emphatically conversed with an annoyed and uncomfortable Boscha, and you could still see a few wandering students sashaying across the surrounding area. Either whatever happened was subtle, or perhaps, Hunter was simply out of your sight.
There came no noticeable change in temperature or breeze, and the sunlight illuminating the court shone unobstructed. No sizzling of recently cast magic reached your ears, no moaning of abominations, and no belching of steam from exhaust vents of heavy machinery. Still, it was highly doubtful Hunter would have taken off without you.
Another moment of scanning, and you spotted him, lower than usual, and with staff clenched. You almost made to join him in what you first thought was imminent combat before your eyes followed his gaze.
He fixated on Luz and Boscha, the duo barely ten metres from you. Once again, noted a passing thought, you had failed to notice Boscha’s approach.
Boscha opened her mouth and raised a hand to the side of it, only to pause when Luz darted in front of her. She wrinkled her eyes and curled her lip in disgust as Luz grasped her hand with both of her own and began shaking it up and down.
“Wow, that was a great game! You really had us beat!” The words spewed out of Luz's mouth in a flurry of haste and nerves, and she leaned forward with closed eyes in an attempt to command Boscha's attention.
“Your team was awesome! Like, I don’t even know how you guys moved that fast and how you kept scoring so many goals. You were crushing the other team! We’ve met before, by the way. I’m Luz, and have I told you that I’m a huge fan of yours…?”
Luz’s words flooded out in a hodgepodge of watered-down criticism of Amity’s team, praise for Boscha’s apparently unbelievable skill in grudgby, and overeager begging to be taught the secrets to the game’s success. Hunter didn’t move an inch throughout the exchange, his narrowed eyes locked onto Boscha and burning through the human obstacle in the way.
After two full, uninterrupted minutes of Luz heaping further praise on Boscha and desperately seeking tutoring, the aggrieved victor recoiled and yanked her hand free. Visibly cringing, Boscha turned her body to the side, raising her formerly gripped hand in an almost defensive arc to shield her face from Luz’s sight.
“Let go of me, freak! Get lost!” Boscha spat in unabashed repulsion at Luz’s fawning. Luz, either unaware or dismissive of the effort at escape, took the opportunity to move closer to Boscha, even opening her arms for something she called a ‘victory hug.’ She boosted her verbal barrage, adding in personal compliments about the grudgby player’s hair, shoes, and even her smell.
Horrified, Boscha lurched about and, after shrieking a string of words you could only assume she did not learn in class, raced away, presumably to find any remnants of her team.
Luz abandoned any attempt at pursuit and instead rounded herself to face Hunter. Her shoulders drew in tight, and her eyes remained focused on his, but her stance demonstrated less malice than it did determination.
“Why did you do that?” Hunter asked, failing to contain the wrath singing in his ears. Once again, his shoulders tensed up, and his posture ran rigid. Eyes slitted, he glared in unrepentant disgust at the retreating figure of Boscha and the interrupting one of Luz.
“Because, like you, I saw what she was about to do. That wouldn’t have been good for anyone, least of all, you.” Her words betrayed an edge, akin to Hunter’s, but the intent was different: where Hunter’s reeked of hostility, Luz’s turned quiet with worry. The steadiness with which she spoke belied her erratic actions towards Boscha merely moments prior.
“Come on, Hunter. It's just a friendly game."
"Is it? Does this always happen at your 'friendly games'? People getting bludgeoned because the enemy team decided not to play fair!" Sweat resurfaced on Hunter’s face, with beads of it dripping across his forehead. His teeth remained grated, but as Boscha had left his field of view, he seemed to mellow out, albeit slightly.
"Well, no. That was a little extreme, but—"
"But nothing! The game's over, so we're leaving. We're done!”
Luz made an effort to step forward, offering a hand in support of the shaking Hunter. He bristled at the potential contact, turning away in a flurry of loathing and shame.
“That wasn’t okay for her to do that.” Hunter stared at a plot of dirt, emotion draining from his voice. Despite his choked attempt at masking his feelings, an occasional tremor tickled up his arm.
The other students, either ignorant or indifferent, continued on with their day.
With the match over, you made for the bench, intent on passing through Hunter’s field of view before quietly slipping off back to the main school grounds. A direct interruption of Hunter whilst he was in the midst of conversation would do little to assuage him, but he needed a reason to pull himself from the interaction.
An impulse to scratch at your recent wound emerged, however, and with it, came a ringing in your ears that made you all but deaf to the surrounding world.
Luz playfully hit Hunter’s shoulder, which yielded a twitch. “See? I knew you'd come around!” She offered a kind smile, careful not to reveal hostility or make any additional sudden moves.
Hunter blinked, a tired push against the dark bags already set in, turned to the stands and looked away from Luz, eyes seeming to glaze. “If she hurts them again, you won't stop me.”
Luz eyed him with her arm drawn to her chest. She pursed her lips and closed her fist, a seed of worry in her gut.
Seeing you paw at your injury but swerve in his direction, Hunter lifted his eyes from the ground and began striding to meet you. Energy returned to his movements, but before he could reach you, Luz again called out to him.
"Hunter! Why don't you stay five?" She inquired, seeming determined to make peace. Hunter stopped on a heel and, casting one further look in your direction, turned back, less forcefully than simply aggrieved.
"Unlike you, human, we have places to be." The condescension in his voice was overpowering, reminiscent of someone with infinitely many other, and all decidedly superior, opportunities for social interaction than the one in which he found himself.
Dismissively, Hunter spun about, certain to find you standing behind him, or at least, proximate to him, but instead, he gaped at the sight of you having just passed by him to meander on the pathways winding about the bleachers.
In an instant, the anger evaporated from his face. "Where are you going?" The tone change in his voice betrayed no small amount of uncertainty and even suggested a hint of fear.
"I thought I told you to wait for me," he sputtered out, ignoring any further communication from Luz, or indeed, any of the other students or creatures that remained on or near the courtyard.
"You'd have lain into everyone on the court if I didn't give you a reason to leave." You turned your head slightly back towards Hunter as you continued walking, presenting a slight smirk.
To him, there lurked no anger in that face, no sting of disappointment, no plot to humiliate, no condemnation shaved sharp on the tip of your words. You spoke to him then, just as you had so many times before, like another person, rather than some useful tool or obstacle in the way of brighter prospects.
Though your eyes only met his momentarily, and via periphery, that old fire bloomed on his face once more. "I just—" he turned his head away, again reaching for a mask he did not possess "—want things to be fair."
You offered a snicker, quiet, but due to Hunter’s proximity, audible.
All you heard in between your steps to the forest was a single, solitary squeak.

[Basically I watched TOH again and dammit HUNTER SHALL HAVE A FRIEND I SAY NOT UNTIL S2 but NOW I SAY NOW]
BECOMING THE GOLDEN GUARD'S/HUNTER'S HUMAN FRIEND BECAUSE I SAID SO
Part 2 of this
Things seemed to become okayish.
The visits were more frequent and the Golden Guard would come in with different, hopefully tastier dishes to you. "Your little drawings of human food aren't the best, you know." He said as he returned with a plate of hot...moving...algae? When all you drew for him was bacon.
They don't even have bread here *crying*.
Alongside the questionable food he also brought writing utensils, something akin to a magical board and the like. You were unsure and so let him use the majority when teaching him about glyphs.
The Golden Guard would nod and hum before grabbing everything under his arm and excusing himself off until the next time he visits you. At times he seemed to be in a good mood so you assumed he made progress - yet he mostly returned tired and grumpy so you did not try your luck to ask how much progress he was doing and how much of it was actually successful.
You did not even know what he's doing with the knowledge or why he needs it.
Still...being kept in a room out of everyone's sight can be boring...and overwhelming.
You've asked your guard a couple of times if there isn't any other new places to be. Just for fresh air. Or to feel the sunlight directly and not through the window you weren't even allowed to touch.
However, one day after requesting it a couple of times, the Golden Guard halted with you almost bumping into him, spun around and agreed.
Under one condition: You'd go outside of the castle's barriers and into the wild to practice wild magic.
Learning about it by theory was no problem but the Guard couldnt risk practicing any of it on Belos' territory. The punishment would be too severe.
Besides...he won't ever tell you but he's scared of using it. Wild magic is dangerous.
Not that he wants to endanger your life but you have far more experiences with it, so he likes to believe that things will turn out fine if you practice them out. He can stay back with the theories on paper and you can actually cast them.
So clad once again with the humble scout uniform, you made your way - though you feel like you instant traveled or zapped - to an abandoned shore. The sea and cliffs would shield you from unwanted attention.
The Golden Guard is very much aware of what a risk he's taking - but it could lead to an solution, to healing.
He is still doing his job. Looking after you and making sure you don't kill yourself through careless spellcasting of wild magic. Thats what he tells himself at least.
The hours pass by and the two of you were engrossed in the many glyphs and the possibilities they offer. You so effortlessly draw them into the sand, it leaves him a bit impressed.
You finish drawing each glyph that you know. "I'm sure there are many more but the majority are like...basic ones from nature, you know? Light, fire, plants...they seem like any other magic spell of your Emperor's Coven, I don't know what else they could do."
He trotted over with his staff, inspecting the glyphs further. "They can be. I've read about it." He passed you by, letting the end of his staff draw along the sand and connecting your drawings with his own lines. "Magic has layers even when the core is the same. Light is more than just able to see in the dark, it filters through the atmosphere we exist in and can cast shadows - thats already another path that light glyph opens up for you!" You noted how much lighter and higher his tone gets as he jogs around the shore, drawing more circles. "Back then before the Savage Times witches were able to create more spells with their imagination and willpower alone just through understanding each core-!"
His figure froze mid-drawing as his gaze met your quizzical one. Straightening his posture, he cleared his throat and intentionally spoke sternly. "I, uh, read that. It's history 101 here on the Boiling Isles, nothing...crazy. You wouldn't know that."
You can't help but crack a smile. "You sure know a lot about magic even if it can be scary. You must be a master by now, is that what it means to be the Golden Guard?" You smiled and meant it as a compliment but your companion just seemed to shrink, looking away from you. "Magic isn't scary, well, wild magic doesn't have to be. There's an immense, just...pool of unlimited possibilities, its what this entire isle is made of. Magic at the very beginning was just like this, wild, and kind of endless," Halting, he continued in a low tone, "...but it can get out of control, thats why its wild in the first place. If you're not careful, if you don't know what you are doing, people might get hurt and-"
He hit a rock when shifitng his weight. A part of the circle had been cut by his foot and he gazed down at the grande symbol you two created. It seemed like art but he knew it couldn't ever be.
Taking a deep breath he called out louder with his hand shooting out. "Thats why I am the Golden Guard, yes, I'll take care of this, of everything. So stay back, human-!"
One shift of his foot too much and he came in contact with a glyph. The lines glowed a bright green and before he knew it, the Guard let out a yelp as his staff went flying up to the cliffs, getting stuck in the rocks.
"No! No, no, no!" His hands clutched his head. You jogged over to him and offered the lightest of condolences. "We can get it back. Should be easy with, yeah, magic-" Your shoulders jumped up, retracting your finger that was playfully drawing circles in the air when your companion started clinging up the cliff, only to slide and fall down again and again. You called out to him in assurance but had to snap when he didnt stop even when his uniform got ripped.
"Hey, hey, you're gonna get hurt! Just wait a moment!"
"I can't! This staff was given to me by Belos!"
"Just focus and cast a spell to get it back!"
His sudden silence surprised you. The Golden Guard shrunk in himself and avoided your gaze. He stood still for a few more awkward minutes - until you took a deep and loud breath.
"...Can't you...cast a magic spell? Like something with the wind, maybe?"
Once again, he stayed quiet and you took your book in your hands before drawing a circle in the sand. "Here, I'll go get it. I'll stand right here and jump on the vine, you'll just have to activate the glyph for me." Once again, he looked away before you urged him more with a trying smile. "You can do it, Golden Guard."
Without another exchange you took your position. The Guard hesitated as he kneled down. "I..."
Gingerly he grazed the outline with one finger and a small sprout grew - before he snapped his hand back and it died instantly.
Looking up to you - and somehow you could tell that he asked you on the 'how'. "You just touch it," you smiled, "I need it to be big and strong...you said that witches used to do that with willpower and imagination, right? Maybe...we could try that." You could feel his gaze, could tell how his chest heaved but with a deep breath he slammed his hand onto the sand. At the contact the glyph glowed bright, a sprout emmitted and you were quick to jump on the growing vine.
In an blink of an eye, the staff was retreated and the guard slowly imagined the vine becoming smaller and reshaping into a flower - which it did the moment you landed on your feet.
"Here." You returned the weapon that you so awkwardly held, "...That thing seems more unstable than my glyphs - from holding it at least."
You tried to smile for him but he remained silent. Throwing sand over the drawn glyphs, the both of you returned to the castle without another word.
Back in the discreet room, you took off the mask of the scout uniform with a frown. "Hey...I won't question anything of that...instance if you don't want me to."
He snapped his head back at you before slowly letting it fall. All you got were mumbles under his breath.
With yet another awkward smile that you could muster, you pointed towards his scraped skin. "I found some bandages here the other day...we'd best patch that up before it gets infected...if that uh, happens around here." This time however, he shook his head. "I can take care of myself. I don't need...your help..."
Underneath his mask he scowled as his words trailed off. What a lie.
He's pathetic.
Still, you tried to urge him to let you tend to him with sticking plaster in hand. Begrudgingly he let you - a bit unsure still. Even the act of sitting on that bed - which is your bed now (has been for a while...he wonders how long you'll stay) - has him thrown off. The confident aura of the Golden Guard leaving him and letting him down.
You talk about what you still were able to learn today, how in your world, water is connected to healing or seen as healing - after all, magic was fiction in your realm that you saw in "movies"...whatever illusions those might be - so maybe magic including a water glyph might ease his pain (which no, that's not how it works. However...he does not interrupt you).
It makes him realizes he doesn't know much about your realm despite keeping you here so that Belos can learn more about it. But what he does realize that in your strange human way, you were trying to comfort him.
He thinks. He never has been comforted before, not like this. Belos never comforted him like this.
After all was patched up, he was quick to collect his staff and leave yet stopped before reaching the door. "...Thanks..." You heard him hesitate and could almost not believe what he was saying, "...for today. And...for the other time where you helped me...with your wild magic."
A smile graced your face and your eyes lit up in a way that the Golden Guard did not know what to think of it. "You're welcome." Quickly he avoided your gaze. "But don't go overboard. Wild magic is dangerous, you could get hurt. So don't do anything without my supervision."
His attempt at sounding stern didn't go unnoticed but as he left, you couldn't find it in yourself to take it personal.
Things have become...challenging. For him.
He stood there with food in his hand right in front of your door, the illusion spell gone for a moment. In his pocket were a few bandages.
He can return your used ones - then again they aren't yours, they belong to the Emperor as everything does here on the Boiling Isles. Well, you could still have some in stock in case you get hurt with wild magic - which isn't something HE can allow to happen as the Golden Guard!
He groans and just goes in.
In time you appreaciated his visits. The extra bandages weren't...neccessary but welcomed. The dishes he brought resembled your doodles more and were *gasp* actually tasty! You asked him if he spend time in the kitchen and he answers embarrassingly (but at least you cannot see the cuts on his hands).
The Golden Guard liked taking his time with wild magic lessons this time though. The outings aren't this far away anymore but each one was at a different place that you appreciated.
You were more open to tell him of your human world. Of quiet nights, of animals like wolves and how the rain is soothing and not boiling. How humans liked to go swim in the ocean as a pass time! (insanity to him).
You mentioned that he'd get it if he would see it...you hoped you'd be able to see it too.
It was interesting...if not fantastical in his mind.
Even with your frequent meetings with Belos who grew more and more impatient, he always stood by your side. Protecting you even with excuses when the emperor chose harsh words. Nevertheless, the man always tried to be a delight in your presence but you could never truly believe him. He did not make ultimatums or threatened or hurt you...did he pity you because you were human?
You always made sure to thank your guard in situations like these even when he had trouble accepting your gratitude or showing any of his own. You assumed he was never upset by it though.
However, when it came to him he was more than reserved. Any questions of his day, interests, well-being, age or even his name he never really answered. It felt all too compelling to just give up on asking him.
The day started off normal enough. What you learned was normal around here.
The Golden Guard announced that he'd go on a mission right before bidding goodbye after his visits. It will be on the airship...not known to Belos but he will be happy with that he'd bring back. No, you cannot come.
"It's top secret, so just between you and me. I won't be back after bringing in victory so don't try to leave this room - okay, byyyeeee!"
There he was again zapping away and leaving you to kill off your boredom all by yourself. It wasnt until the late evening when crashing and guards stomping by your room was heard. In a panic you rushed towards the wall to eavesdrop.
'Airship' and 'Golden Guard' was all you could hear out by a small, high-pitched voice...squealing over the possibility of his death and taking his place.
Your heart skipped a beat and your throat felt dry. Death? What did they mean with him dying? Taking his place? This - This has to be a joke!
But the demon realm taught you quick that nothing was a joke here. Many things could have taken your life and you were sure members of the Emperor's Coven would be more than willing to be the most dangerous things on the isles.
There was no time to think. Your heart was pounding so hard leaving you with a headache yet you did not stop when putting on the scout uniform nor did you falter when stealing from the Healing Coven's closet. It was terrifying but you did not think about it nor about the consequences that could follow if Belos found out. You could imagine that he wouldn't be pleased when the human got out of his castle.
You refused to think about it or else you might shake in your boots with no power to continue to help him.
Sneaking out you were met with rubble and it confirmed your suspicions. You didn't know how to really find him if other witches were already after him. Making sure you stayed out of anyone's sight, you tightly held onto the bag filled with healing potions. You stumbled through the dark and the debris, falling hard enough to lose your mask - but secured the bottles from shattering.
It's alright, you tell yourself and took a deep breath, you can still hide your ears with the cape.
Other scouts searched the area and suddenly you had a bad feeling about dressing as one yourself. Though beyond the orders shouted out, you heard a high voice not belonging to any of the Emperor's Coven and followed it. Without realizing whats in front of you, you collapsed with another person.
You shrieked but caught the bottles just in time. Whipping your head up, you came face to face with another witch - a boy your age with hair pale blonde, scars on his face and ear and heavy eyebags just under his ruby red eyes.
His jaw hung open with a tooth gap peeking from his lips. He looked at you as if he couldn't believe his eyes.
Before he could speak you interrupted him: "Have you seen the Golden Guard?!"
Jumping, he recoiled.
You only stared at him with white panic. "He was steering the airship that crashed here I heard! I, I've got to find him - Emperor's orders!" You hoped he'd take the bait - but only kept staring at you in shock.
In turn you shook your head with a scoff and passed by him yet still stopped and gazed at him over your shoulder. "...You look hurt," Your hand fished out a few potions, "I got these for him but you look like you could use them, too." Without another word you shoved a few potions into his arms and made a run deeper into the debris.
After your figure dissapeared, he still stood there. Beyond the smoke another person emerged through. "Who was that?" Her brown eyes looked worriedly over to him as she adjusted the cape around her round ears.
The blonde frowned before quickly packing the potions out of her sight. "No one. Let's go."
The moment he got back, he barged into your room.
It was long nighttime. You did not sleep, refused to rest your eyes as you skimmed around your book for some kind of glyph that lets you track people. Find their belongings, their status. Anything.
He should've expected it but it still startled him when you rushed over, yelling at him with panicked eyes on where he had been.
The Golden Guard told you the truth - part of it at least and sprinkled a bit of fantasy on it. How he was found and brought back to the castle.
"And what about 'taking your place'?! I saw members of the Coven trying to track you down and..." Your eyes softened, your face grim, "...they talked about getting rid of you."
He looked briefly away from your sullen gaze. "They weren't able to."
"So thats just, a thing that happens here? Scouts and generals wanting to get rid of others for their position?! Thats not normal! Thats something that happened in kingdoms and dynasties and..."
You halt and deflate. Your arms that were wildly gesturing just a moment ago slowly fell to your sides. "...empires."
The Golden Guard assured you while shaking his head. "Listen, I don't know what these are but! I'm fine! I'm fine. You don't have...to worry about someone like me."
"Your airship crashed, thats enough reason to worry - and after hearing the members of your own Coven want you dead, of course I'd come looking for you!"
You saw his shoulders jump. He tilted his head up in surprise and even though you couldn't see it, you were sure he was stunned. It only made you frown more.
"...Of course I'd look for you."
The way you looked at him was the final resolution he believed he needed. A sigh escaped and hit his mask as he avoided your gaze. "...Yeah, you did. You saved me. Thanks..." He saw you straightening your back as your head rose and your face grimaced with a puzzled expression. He bet you must be so confused, maybe hurt - of course you are, you just said it yourself. But still, he put the empty bottles into your hands.
"Human, I have to tell you something..." His voice shook as his hands went up to remove his mask. A gasp escaped you as the same bad but sad boy was looking at you. His blonde hair tussled and unruly as his red eyes seemed to beg you not to he angry. They were bandages on his face which somewhat eased your worries. He was hurt and roughed up but not as much as you feared.
"Why didn't you tell me that was you?" You approached him unsurely and he seemed to back away. He twiddled with his fingers and couldnt meet your eyes. "...No one was supposed to see me. I barely take off my mask anyway, only to Belos. And..." He scowled slightly, "I didn't know what to do. I didn't expect you, you weren't even supposed to be there!"
"I was worried they'd kill you! That was true what I heard, wasnt it? Or is that also a lie?" "I'm not lying to you!" He snapped back with a bit more bite in him, "Kikimora constantly tries to take my place! Thats why it was so weird to see you there with healing potions looking for me! And...I should thank you. I wanna thank you." As quick as his fierce glare came, it was gone again as the blonde shrunk meekly, begrudgingly admitting his fault in a soft voice. "...No one's done that for me before. Not even...Belos..."
You frown was filled with pity. "I figured as much." You softly let out and motioned towards your bed. With hesitancy, he sat down at the edge and you followed to do the same. Now sitting next to him, you hesitated yourself. "Is there anything more I should know?" "What do you want to know?" Looking back up, he saw you glaring slightly at him. "Your name for example. Or are you just known as the Golden Guard?"
"No!"
Your anger was nothing compared to the way he snapped.
But as fast as it came, he slowly shrunk again, turning away and fiddling with his hands.
His voice softened once again.
"...My name is Hunter."
You repeated his name and it left a shiver down his spine. Hearing you out of all people say it is weird, it is all so weird. No one adresses him by his name but you just did as if it were normal.
"Well...it's nice to meet you properly, Hunter." Again, you are acting weird, smiling at him ever so slightly and even if it was forced, it seemed genuine to him. That you'd even say something like that. You even repeated your name as if it really is the first time you two met.
He awkwardly shook your offering hand.
"It's...nice to meet you, too."
"But why are you telling me all this, Hunter?"
His red eyes flickered to the side before a more serious expression graced his face. He took a deep breath before staring into your eyes. "There's something you need to know." He began dryly, "When I was out there, running away from Kiki...I was with someone else. It...was another human, just like you."
Your eyes widened.
"If I'm right, she comes from the same place that you do. I believe she appeared later on the Boiling Isles than you did and she might have the means to return. She is not...a friend, but I can bring you to her."
"There is a way back home?!" Jumping up from the bed, you barely could believe your luck. But it still left you confused. "But...can you tell me even this? I-is that something I'm supposed to know? What about Belos?"
Hunter looked back up to you, his hands tightly gripping his knees. "You deserve to know. You...are the nicest, weirdest person I've ever met. And you want to go back home, to somewhere you belong..." Sadness briefly glimmered in his eyes and they glance back at you, "Human, I - no," Hunter corrected himself by saying your name, "I have to pay you back for all the...things you've done for me. Even if I am just a powerless witch...I want to help you get back to your realm."
You were speechless. Taking a step towards him, you opened your mouth but the next words that were heard were not yours but chirping.
On the window behind Hunter, was a red bird watching you two.
