学生の頃もそうだったが、社会人になってからも組織から「新聞を読むことの重要性」を指導され、一時期は毎日真面目に目を通していたことがあった。しかしある時に気が付いた。会社の経営者とかなら日々くまなく新聞に目を通し���欲に情報を集める意味も大きいだろうけど、薄給で酷使されてる自分にしてみたら目の前のことをこなす事で精一杯であり、そんな暇があればリフレッシュや内省する時間に充てた方がよほど有意義だと。
それ以降新聞を読むことはなくなったが、重要な情報は遅かれ早かれ他のメディアや人伝いで伝わってきたので特に問題なかった。そのうちインターネットが拡充してくると、必要な情報を適時に迅速かつ深く調べることが可能になり、自分から情報発信することも容易になった。
その後、紆余曲折あって現居である山奥に移住したが、光回線による高速通信で不自由なくインターネットが利用できている。このブログを継続できているのもその環境があるからこそだ。一方で、新聞は配達サービスのエリア外のため購読は物理的に不可能。もちろん読みたいとは思わないけどね。
私の居住環境は特殊としても、これだけインターネットによる情報受発信が一般化してくると、テレビや新聞の存在価値はどんどん薄れてくる。にもかかわらず、いつまでも偏向的な報道を続ける姿勢が多くの人たちの反感を買い、最近では「オールドメディア」と呼ばれ侮蔑される始末。信用を失えばますます顧客は離れていくよね。
まあいずれにしても価値観や技術の変化により、時代にそぐわなくなった物は衰退していく運命であり、テレビや新聞がそうなっていくのも必然的な流れである。ただ私はこれに大きな危機感を持っている。新聞は無くなっても全く構わないが、新聞紙が無くなると困るのだ!

書かれている記事の品質なんか知ったこっちゃ無いが(笑)、新聞紙には他の紙では代用し難い独特の紙質があり、薄さ、強度、��工性、柔軟性、吸湿性、保湿性、保温性、抗菌性、などなど多くのメリットがあって非常に良い素材なのだ。さらに巷では廃品として古紙回収に出されるような物だから値段など無いに等しく、コストパフォーマンスは最強である。しかしながら私のように新聞を購読していない者にとっては入手するのは容易ではない(素材として売ってないからね)。幸い以前来訪した人が持ってきてくれた大きい束がいくつかあるの��(冒頭写真参照)しばらくはそれで要は果たせそうだ。
新聞紙はさまざまな形で利用できるけど、私の所では農作業関連に使うことが最も多い。作業台や床に簡易養生として敷くのは勿論のこと、冬越しさせる各種種芋に巻く素材として欠かせない。ちなみに使用済の物はコンポストに入れれば容易に分解し堆肥となって土に還る。

襖の中にはハンガーに掛けた新聞紙を吊してある。当地は夏季、非常に湿気の多い状況となるので、新聞紙の吸湿性を利用して除湿し、周辺のカビ防止を図ろうという目論見。もちろん除湿器や除湿剤のように大きな性能はないけれど、問題も発生していないし、コストも掛からないのでとりあえず継続中。

This is an 'easy gaiwan'
A gaiwan is a lidded bowl you use to make tea, it's from a Chinese tea service/technique called gong fu. There leaf to water ratio is much higher than you get with a western style brewing but you steep for much shorter time and multiple times until the tea no longer tastes good or you're finished.
THIS, however, is an easy gaiwan. The ceramic is beautiful, and it is a beautiful piece, but easy gaiwans are so unnecessary and over designed. If you want to get into gong fu, just get a standard gaiwan.
Additionally, this reeks of an advertisement.
