What makes this set so special is the fact that the first prototype was created by hand by Yoshie Hayashi, an animator who started working at Studio Ghibli in 2009 and has been involved in all its feature-length anime films since 2010’s Arrietty.

While working on The Boy and the Heron as a video inspection assistant, Hayashi wondered what some of the characters would look like if she made them three-dimensional. Having majored in plastic arts during her student days, Hayashi experimented by crafting the character of Kiriko into a doll, which gave birth to this series. 

The final product retains the warmth of a handmade design, despite the character’s frown.

Auntie Miwa au

Ok so this au is one that I think can be pretty fun to play around with.

Ok so, yes, Splinter's mom's name is Hamato Atsuko, BUT! what if it wasn't. what if it was say, Hamato Tang Shen.

This idea came to like a fever dream lol. basically I just saw a lot of similarities between how Rise showed Splinters mother vs how other depictions introduced Tang Shen (through time travel/memories, loving mother but died early, a strong woman, dying due to the foot/shredder) and I thought, what if?

So this au has Tang Shen meeting a Hayashi Yoshito. They fall in love and have 2 kids. The youngest, Hamato Yoshi, named after his father who died before he was born.

The oldest... Hamato Miwakarai. Named after the founder of the Hamato clan. She hated this burden/legacy though and started to go by just Miwa.

Miwa is a good few years older from Yoshi, about 8-10. So by the time their mom leaves/passes away, Miwa has already been sent away for Hamato training. This is why Splinter never brings her up and she isn't in his memories. He barely remembers her and thinks she is dead like the rest of his family. Sacrified and tossed aside by the Hamato duty.

I imagine her personality in this au as like a mix between 2012 Karai, and 03 Raph and Leo. on the surface she has learned to mask the "Hamato honor" and be stoic, calm, calculated and cunning. but she is also explosive, loud, loyal, and caring. she can be apathetic at times but thats just the Hamato training that was beat drilled into her. (I can go on about the Hamato clans decent into cultish behavior but I'll save that for a different post)

Miwa becomes the head of the Hamato Clan, and after hearing about rumor of the Shredder returning in NYC (something she thinks is hightly unlikely considering the main foot sect is located in Japan) she send some hamatos to investigate. but because all of NYC was stuck in the mystic orb, theres not much they find besides some destruction and evidence of a fight.

but if no Hamatos were present then how would Shredder have been defeated? so she brushes it off as false intel.

But then the Krang invasion happens. and she sees what little news clippings and videos the escape donnies detection softwares. and she sees these figures, fighing the Krang, and using Ninpo non the less. Now she must go and investigate these imposters, these thieves of the Hamato ways, and put them down. make an example of them. She wasn't expecting to be reunited with her long lost brother and meet her green nephews instead.

'Stand by…' was what the Tv said. Confused, you looked carefully at it, and then suddenly, you hear the sound of a camera being hit.

"COME ON, YOU F***ING CAMERA!!" A masculine voice said, annoyed. He must’ve been the one bashing onto the camera. "Shozo-kun, please bro, stop! I REALLY don't wanna have to get another camera, this one was *really* expensive!"

Eventually, the camera finally starts to work and shows a *huge* group of studnets.

Finally, after a few moments, a woman who had short brown hair and was wearing a lime-green dress that had a thick red stripe on the stomach area of it emerged from the group. She had a computer with her.

The girl sat the computer down at what resembled a coffee table, and pressed play on it before she went back to the couch and sat down, with a boy with short, dark-blue hair, almost black colored hair and had pinkish-orange colored eyes nyooming over to sit next to her almost immediately after. The boy was holding a soft, plain-white colored blanket he used to cover himself at, he was also holding with him a fennekin plush toy.

Suddenly, the computer began speaking.

I think it’s not only about him knowing how to read the room, but this mf is almost as heavy, if not the same, as Donkey Kong and Bowser. Like, you’re gonna sit here and tell me that if he wanted to, he wouldn’t be a pain in the ass and make shit hard for you? Deadass?

I feel like I shouldn’t have to say anything, but in case I have to... Morton looks like he’s hungry, like he’s power-hungry and money-hungry. Now, I could be wrong, but with as pretty as Kokonoi is, you’re telling me you don’t see him playing this koopa jr?

I know he doesn’t fit the character, like at all, but Inui would have to choose some character. I feel like it would take after Takemichi with the whole 11th gen vice-leader thing. That and he knows how poorly the game treats Yoshi, he wants no part of that shit.

Listen, listen. I love Mitsuya, I truly do, I love him with my heart..... But he would get his ass demolished if he tried the team games, alright? The balloon games, the team racing, even the grand pix. He would get molly whopped, alright? The game hates Yoshi, you can look at Dashi Gaming or you can trust me when I tell you I’ve played as him. That’s a no on that, bud. 

Shinichiro Sano as Ludwig

So I feel like it’s either because I know Shinchin would stay up on his Nintendo 64 playing Mario or some shit, but when he gets introduced to Ludwig, something either clicks positively or negatively. I feel like it would be negative, considering all of the fucking kids Koopa Troopa has. So now I feel like he’ll play the character out of spite. Once he gets used to Ludwig? That’s a different story.

Sanzu Haruchiyo as Iggy

Just look at him. Just look at him. Look at him and tell me he doesn’t look like some sort of pothead or something that would involve drugs. Look at his pupils. Are those pupils that belong to someone sober? Absolutely not. Guess what, Sanzu and Iggy are one in the same. Both some damn potheads, pill-poppers, call it what you will.

Pah (Haruki Hayashida) as Wario

As much as I hate Wario, I kinda hold respect for Pah, so I’ll put him with Wario because of his childhood. I feel like when Pah first met Wario, he started liking him because he was a villain who was closer to his build, ngl. I mean, you’re telling me the two don’t remind you of one another?

Peh (Ryohei Hayashi) as Lemmy

So I don’t know what it is, but I feel like this would work because it does. As much as I wanted to put him as Waluigi so they could be like siblings in the game, I just couldn’t do my boy like that. So instead, I put him with this kid. I can’t explain it, so I’m not gonna try.

Smiley (Nahoya Kawata) as Peach

If you talk shit about the character I choose, he’s gonna jump through the screen and beat you up. It was more of an experiment for him at first, but considering he managed to win against Mikey and Draken because the hefty levels of acceleration she has and how she’s medium-heavy. If he gets the red shroom, he’s in first place automatically. I don’t give a damn.

Angry (Souya Kawata) as Daisy

I feel like this would be a “look up to my older brother” moment. Peach and Daisy have similar feats when it comes to speed and acceleration. I feel like because Angry’s the usually quiet type, he would be the type to not flaunt off how he’s in the top three places, but the second he passes in like first or second place, the others would be absolutely befuddled with how he gained on them and didn’t say anything until after he passed.

Izana Kurokawa as Baby Peach

When I tell you I can’t stand baby peach, I fucking mean it. Throwin’ my controller, fumes comin’ out of my ears, breakin’ the damn buttons angry, I mean it. She always gets ahead of me, and for whatever fucking reason, you can’t hardly pass her, especially on the final lap of whatever map you play. I don’t tolerate the idea of hitting children, but baby peach is gonna have to go. I’d uppercut Izana so fucking bad, you have no idea.

Kakucho Hitto as Black Yoshi

He’s just in a little goofy moment, ya know? He has no idea the amount of pain he’s brought on himself, but lemme tell you when he first plays as Black Yoshi, he almost broke his TV. The game hates Yoshi, and I mean it. E for Everyone when it comes to him.

SHO participated today in the main event of GLEAT’s “GLEAT Ver.1″ show at Tokyo Dome City Hall. He took on the presumptive ace of GLEAT Takanori Ito in a LIDET UWF Rules match, that saw SHO win by submission (I don’t have the time handy). It was a different match from what we usually see from SHO, however both Sho Tanaka and Takanori Ito have a background in MMA, and they did their best to do the “worked shoot” style that UWF made famous. It’s kinda funny -- UWF (and UWFi after it) were created as a response to the way-too-worked style of NJPW to begin with. Now NJPW wrestlers are fighting in UWF-style matches. The wheels of time...

The good news is, GLEAT’s show is fully and legally available on YouTube, so have at it. Other matches include such names as Kaz Hayashi, CIMA, Shigehiro Irie, T-Hawk & El Lindaman. I’m going to try to watch the whole thing soon. GLEAT has a lot of good press and hype around it, so let’s see how it does in the real world too.

Tickets for both NJPW Resurgence and the NJPW Strong taping Fighting Spirit Unleashed went on sale yesterday; apparently ringside seats at Resurgence are already sold out, with other sections soon to go.

Whatever the case, the first match of this show has been announced, as Jay White will face off against his generational rival David Finlay Jr. for the NEVER Openweight Championship. This is Jay’s first announced defense of the title that he won on 5/3/2021 at the first night of Wrestling Dontaku, and he has not been back in the ring since the second night, 5/4/2021, losing in a 6-man tag match. (There were reports both he and Finlay were 2 of the 9 that tested positive for COVID-19, however that was never confirmed to my knowledge, only hearsay from Fit Finlay, who is David’s father, but still not from the source. Only Kazuchika Okada and Taichi publicly confirmed their positive diagnoses.) I wouldn’t be surprised if this were the main event, or semi-main, depending on what Jon Moxley is doing on the card.

I also wouldn’t expect too many match announcements for Fighting Spirit Unleashed, due to it being a Strong taping. They tend to keep those cards pretty close to their chest.

The tour wraps up tomorrow, with a streamed show on NJPWWorld and Abema. The main event is a title match, however the opening matches feature both opponents in the upcoming IWGP World Heavyweight title match at Wrestle Grand Slam giving the Young Lions a bonus Trial Series match a piece. Those should be real fun.

Power Rangers Bushido Blades

Long ago in ancient Japan there lived a mighty shogun, loved by his people he ruled during an era of peace until a dark threat rose. The Akukai, monstrous beings created from the spirits of the dishonorable dead began to attack the innocent.

Fortunately an order of monks and priestesses discovered a way to infuse kanji with a person’s spiritual essence creating the ability of Kanji-Ryuko. By using a Kanji Command warriors could unleash incredible attacks and abilities. The Shogun studied this ability and had a group of handpicked warriors study it as well. The order also provided a series of talisman to the samurai to give them further power in battle. Using this ability the group of samurai was able to fend off the invasion and finally the Shogun gravely wounded the leader of the Akukai, Chionio (Blood Demon King) as he and the rest of the warriors created a seal to keep the monsters trapped. However in the resulting explosion they were caught in a seal themselves.

Many centuries later the conditions were just right to break the seals releasing both groups. Chionio was still healing from his wounds so his followers attacked the world to avenge him as the samurai aim to ward them off once more as the Power Rangers Bushido Blades!

Red Bushido Ranger- Takeshi Hakuryu*- The shogun of a great land long ago. While he may act arrogant and prideful he truly cares about those under his rule. When he awoke in the modern day he was devastated to learn his land fell while he was gone. His spirit roars like a mighty inferno as he wields the Burning Broadsword. His talisman becomes the Lion Bushido Zord Face Claim: Steven Yeun

Blue Bushido Ranger- Daisuke Shimizu*- A great warrior who once fought the shogun in battle. Once he was disarmed he continued to fight, as he braced himself for the killing blow he was shocked Takeshi had chosen to spare his life. Awed by his power and mercy he swore his life to him. Even after all the centuries he keeps to his vow. His spirit is as powerful as a rushing river as he wields the Rainfall Bow and Arrows. Yellow Bushido Ranger-Yoshiko Doi*- A member of the order who discovered Kanji-Ryuko. She is highly skilled in the use of it however her combat ability is lacking at first. She is quiet and contemplative however she opens up around close friends. Her spirit is as solid as a rock as she wields the Boulder Cutter. Her talisman becomes the Monkey Bushido Zord Face Claim: Sakurako Okubo

Green Bushido Ranger-Shun Kobayashi*- A cunning ninja who heard tales of the shogun’s power. He spied on him for weeks watching him until witnessing his full power in a battle. As an enemy attempted to attack the exhausted shogun from behind he cut them down with a quick attack. In gratitude Takeshi welcomed him even after he revealed he knew he had been spying on him the whole time. His spirit grows like the lush forest as he wields the Leaf Spear. His talisman becomes the Bear Bushido Zord Face Claim: Osric Chau

Pink Bushido Ranger- Rin Kazehaya*- An assassin hired to slay the shogun she got within striking distance when the shogun blocked her attack. Impressed with her obvious skill at her craft Takeshi hired her as his personal bodyguard, after having her eliminate her previous client first. Her spirit is as swift as the wind as she wields the Whirlwind Fan. Her talisman becomes the Turtle Bushido Zord Face Claim: Yuuka Yano

Gold Bushido Ranger- Hiroki Fukami*- A student of Japanese mythology who witnessed the Samurai’s first battle after they escaped the seal. He was the one who dubbed them Power Rangers and helped them adjust to the many changes in the world. Soon he would create a way to fight alongside them using a new form of Kanji-Ryuko. His spirit shines brightly as he wields the Glowing Blade. He creates a pair of talisman resulting in the Lobster and Squid Bushido Zords Face Claim: Harry Shum Jr

Red Bushido Ranger- Kiyoko “Kiki” Ryumine* - An idol singer who makes waves by speaking out against the horrible conditions idols often face. She’s currently staring in the Japanese version of Triumph Trio based around flowers, she plays Triumph Rose. She is also the descendant of Takeshi, after discovering her link to him she begins to study the lost art of Kanji-Ryuko. She uses it to restore an ancient Bull talisman resulting in the creation of the Bull Bushido Zord. Her spirit is as fiery as a blaze as she wields the Burning Broadsword. The two Reds eventually learn that a shared relative, the descendant of Takeshi and the ancestor of Kiyoko fell to the Akukai. Now called Yakikiri (Burning Cut) this demonic swordsman is out for the blood of both Reds Face Claim: Kyary Pamyu Pamyu In time the Rangers discover a new talisman allowing a person to unlock all their spiritual power at once creating the Spiritual mode. In this mode a Ranger’s power is increased tenfold. By infusing the talismans with Kanji-Ryuko the Rangers can call forth the Bushido Zords which can combine to form the Bushido Megazord Red- Torso and head Blue/Green-Legs Yellow/Pink- Arms An additional trio of talisman become the Beetle, Fish, and Tiger Bushido Zords each giving the Bushido Megazord increased power as well as combining into the Thunderbird Bushido Zord which combines with the Bushido Megazord to form the Soaring Bushido Megazord

The Lobster Bushido Zord forms its own Megazord as the Shining Lobster Megazord which has four modes including one that combines with the Squid. It can also combine with the main Megazord to form the Shining Bushido Megazord armed with a powerful cannon. The Bull Bushido Zord also forms its own Megazord as the Bull Bushido Megazord. The three Megazords can combine to form the Bushido Ultrazord.
