Once again, she could feel her throat tightening up as Kieran moved in her direction, leaning uncomfortably into her space. The look in his eyes was so intense, but she braced herself for what was coming. She told him to yell at her and that's exactly what she was going to get.

His harsh warning was unwanted, and she wanted nothing more than to argue his point. She wasn't stupid. She wasn't naive. It was one thing to be mad at her, but the way he was talking down to her was so painful. But before she can argue that point, he went on.

And this is where the knife really dug into her chest.

It was deserved. She did hurt him. And it lived in the back her mind for the last year, unable to leave her alone. He had no idea how much guilt she carried with her. How many times she replayed those events over and over in her head, agonizing over every mistake she made along the way. How she should've handled things instead... But it was way too late for that, now. The damage was already done. And now she had to deal with the consequences.

The anger coming from him was too overpowering for her to focus on what was really being said there.

"Okay! I screwed everything up! But that doesn't give you a free pass to act like this! You're mad at me but you're dragging everyone else down with you?! What sense does that make?!" As guilty as she felt, she wasn't going to let him scapegoat his attitude towards everyone else. "You can think I'm naive, stupid, heartless, or whatever else. Fine! I probably deserve it! But that's between us!"

This was not how she wanted or expected this to go. She wanted to apologize to him, to make things right, but she couldn't do any of that when he was acting like a bully himself.

Kotone's sudden yell did not just catch Drayton offguard. Kieran stared at Kotone for a few seconds, speechless as he was, before his eyebrows knitted together in irritation and Drayton lost Kieran's aggro, so to speak. As the boy approached the girl and got right up in her face about it, not breaking eyecontact once. He wouldn't let her or Drayton know how hard it was for him to keep this eyecontact up with Kotone in particular. She held... special status.

For many specific reasons. Most of which private and very much repressed.

"What are you, naive or stupid? He's using you to piss me off and you fall for it so fucking easily!" Easy there cowboy, you might come off as concerned for her. Backtrack, lest your image falls. Kieran scowled, teeth gritted behind lips pressed together into a thin, agitated line.

A practiced laugh then erupted from him. Clearly fake, brief, joyless; mocking like a mightyena.

"YOU didn't like how we left off in Kitakami? YOU were the person who tore my heart out! And betrayed me! You were my first friend and I loved being around you, and then I learn about how you were lying to me through your fucking teeth. I'm not going to make that mistake a second time. Thanks."

AS YOU LIKE IT and Rui Kamishiro

"As You Like It" a song made by Eve is pretty much canonically Rui's theme song designated by colorpalet. I don't think I need to explain why as it stands out among WxS's discography while being linked with Rui a lot in general like him being the only with an alt vocal.

Now I'm gonna dissect some of the lyrics (ignoring the lyric distribution, this time because I don't think it ads too much ?) and explain how all of it links to Rui's character while also throwing in a little bit of speculating in there as I think the song could potentially foreshadow Rui's arc coming forward.

Also I know the song was definitely not written for Rui and this technically damages my analysis in some ways HOWEVER the fact colorpalet completely gave up on their usual normal choices for WxS pick to pick THIS SONG obviously matching Rui's character (and also shoving it in multiple after live shows) means this song is worth of analysis.

ANALYSIS TIME :

We're starting off strong, I think these lyrics go well with how Rui was in the beginning. He seemed apathetic/indifferent to the things around him, he clearly had given up connecting with anyone around him.

Crying over these memories obviously refers to how Rui is constantly hurt by his past weither knowingly or not, the memories of people rejecting him pretty much is still wound that is healing for him.

This could obviously be in relation to Rui's relationship with WxS, Rui says later in a QnA that the most stressful play for him was the RMD one. He constantly lives in fear of being rejected and his relationship with WxS is an act of courage for him.

"cause we shouldn't stand still, right ?" first ding on the disbandement arc counter

"Life is a sham" again very much a reference to his middle school self, and the "don't say you can't do it" is rlly vague but also I believe has multiple meanings.

People have bailled on Rui multiple times saying they can't do his production, but also Rui now was in situations where he withdraws from situation due to trauma like in wonder halloween where he "couldn't do it". "Don't say it's too late" Could be talking about middle school Rui's mindset, who had given up despite still waiting for someone to understand him.

Both could also be a reference to the disbandement arc as well

WxS forming and Rui being at first reluctant to join due to fear/past trauma

Now the "meeting of my selves" could be a reference to Rui's emotions but I think this a very specific line that could end up being foreshadowing towards something.

Asahi/Sakaki both seem to have links towards Rui as a character so it is possible, especially with the idea of conflicts with the different selves that this could be a reference to that (both side character linked to Rui ends up heavily challenging him and his beliefs in some way possibly ?)

"We steadily close the gap/But we remain far apart" could potentially be some ominous WxS foreshadowing but that's grasping at straws

Okay obviously I don't need to explain how this relates to Rui's character. Rui right now still has Asahi looming in the background as the future of WxS still remains uncertain.

This one kinda has two conflicting ideals for Rui

"No meaning to being humble and respectful" could be related to Rui's tendency to be overly humble sometimes despite his extraordanary, he's very much a perfectionnist. He's also just overall very self critical, people reacting negatively to his directing made him feel like there was something wrong with him and that's just how he continued to view himself.

"So bye-bye to my embarassing dreams" Rui often chastises himself for wanting more, he's very similar to Emu in that way. His dream of wanting to have friends or his dream to stay with WxS both were "embrassing dreams" to him.

There are some other sus lines but since I don't have a good grasp on them so these will be the last one and uhm.

Yeah those specific lines I feel like is foreshadowing towards Rui's trajectory.

Because it's weirdly fitting in Rui's weird spot right now right ? He's becoming better, he has improved in so many ways but there are things that are definitely not improving with him (aka his feelings about greedy, his overworking tendencies and overall emotional repression). There are still issues with him brewing in the background and by issues I mean Asahi.

So yeah this was very rambley and I'm sleepy but As You Like It is Rui's blorbo song and colorpalet likes this blue and purple grape way too much.

Epic the musical has been running wild in my mind as of late (You should 100% go watch it if you haven’t) along with the usual (tmnt, my aus, SWWTRH, etc.) oh and just today I started a lil mini comic that I doubt I’ll finish because… *glances at all my wips* uh yeah… hehe. I do really like the one panel I made for it so far! It would only be like 4-5 panels long so hopefully I’ll finish it ^-^

Okay okay okay OF COURSE i have things to ramble about Letter From my Future Self but what to choose and say without major spoilers is tricky…. Hmmmmmm…. Gonna put it under a cut :D

(This is a spoiler but it’s pretty minor and goofy)

I have recently been thinking about how Donnie deals with the beginning of the movie (after he is sent back in time w/ Casey) and I think one interaction that could happen is rlly funny so I’ll talk about that heheh

In the beginning of the movie, after Casey is thrown into the past, he searches and inevitably finds April O’Neil. As we all know he scares her and she immediately knocks him unconscious. In my au something similar happens, Casey and Donnie are sent back together. At the time Donnie was brought to the future he had only been in their new lair for a couple of weeks, so, with all the craziness and new information that comes with the apocalypse, …he completely forgets where the new lair is. Him and Casey use the photo (like in the movie) and track down April at her school. Donnie sees her from a distance and freezes up. He hasn’t seen HIS April in nearly three years, anything could happen (also he’s all emotional seeing the first person from his timeline in three years but shhhh don’t hurt his emotionally unavailable bad boy image). Then he blinks and Casey has already jumped down and been knocked unconscious. Donnie’s brotherly instincts kick in and without a second thought he’s standing right in front of his Sister. He would be attacking but his instincts are at a hard stand still because that is his brother who is currently unconscious and vulnerable but that’s his sister… resulting in him just immediately mixing the two instincts with the knowledge that April wouldn’t hurt either of them and Casey would be fine as long as he wasn’t left there. This results is his guard being partially relaxed (mainly due to being so flabbergasted) that the following happens:

Donnie (too overloaded to take in anything that just happened): You knocked him unconscious!?! Wha— *hits the ground, unconscious*

April (without comprehending its Donnie): *hits him over the head with her bat* STRANGER DANGER!

That’s the goofy option but I have a couple others spinning in the mind as well (Donnie stops her from knocking him out, Donnie immediately tries explains things, Donnie attacks April out of pure instinct, etc. etc.)

let's have some fun with this that past me would have hated and do some Carrie &/ Luke?

When the school decided to do a senior trip to a ski lodge for winter break, Carrie couldn't be more excited. She had thought she would have to spend her vacation alone again, so spending time skiing with her friends sounded divine.

The lodge was lovely, and they all got greeted with real hot chocolate not that sad instant stuff the cafeteria served upon arrival.

"Alright everybody, rooms are being assigned by your teachers, and there will be no exchanges or switches, I don't care how much you whine," Principal Lessa declared. "And we will be checking the rooms and halls so check those thoughts of sneaking around right now."

There was a series of groans all around-a lot of the girls wanted to share with their friends, and the guys wanted to sneak around so they could share beds with their partners. Carrie hadn't really cared-she could have shared with any of the Candis and been happy.

However, when she got her room assignment, she looked at Mrs. Harrison. "This has to be a mistake. Luke Patterson? I thought we weren't shacking up boys and girls?"

"Rooms are set Miss WIlson." was the only answer she got.

Carrie scowled and stomped off to her room, barely holding back a scream when she saw there was only one bed. Because of course there was.

At least there was a second dresser so she started angrily throwing her clothes into one, then stopping so she didn't damage her designer pieces or wrinkle anything that would need more than the subpar iron to fix.

There was a tentative knock at the door, causing Carrie to look up. There was Luke, waving as he entered, and stopping when he saw the singular bed. "Fuck."

"My sentiments exactly."

"Okay, this isn't ideal, but I'm too tired to go argue with Lessa right now. Can we just deal for tonight and see what can be done in the morning?"

"If we have to."

"You will survive sleeping next to me for one night."

Carrie didn't dislike Luke, but she got that he probably thought she did-her ice queen persona kept people at bay and kept her safe. She had to project a teflon personality-like nothing bothered her when she couldn't take being hurt or abandoned again. Not after her mother dumped her as a baby, her dad rejected her for work at a regular basis, and people she thought were friends ditched her after one little misunderstanding.

"Okay. But I'm calling dibs on the bathroom first."

"Totally fair," Luke replied. "I shower in the morning anyways."

Carrie took her time with her nighttime routine-partially to calm her nerves, partially to give Luke time to change. She finally came out, finding Luke on one side of the bed, sitting up, scribbling in a notebook.

"Bathroom's all yours," she said, then paused as she took Luke in-and saw the fabric under his cut off. Now she understood why Luke got roomed with her-and felt instant fury on his behalf. "You don't need to sleep with it on, if you don't want to. I won't say anything."

"My shirt?' Luke asked, and then saw Carrie's pointed look at his chest. "Oh yeah. My folks are saving up, but the school still refuses to accept it. I wanted to share with Reg-he knows, and is cool with it. But I guess they decided it would be safer to put me with a girl."

"Why not Julie then?"

"I guess because half the staff thinks we're dating?" Luke replied, a tinge of pink appearing along his cheekbones.

To be fair, Carrie also thought he and Julie were dating. "You're not?"

Luke laughed at that. "No way! Julie is like, madly in love with Flynn, and vice versa. They just haven't really said as much at school. Plus I like cock."

Carrie sputtered at that. "Ew."

Luke shrugged. "Figured you should know-I'm not gonna like, molest you or anything."

With that he walked away, coming out of the bathroom a few minutes later and laid his binder down on top of his bag, flicking off the light as he slipped into the bed opposite Carrie.

"Thanks, for being cool about this," he said.

"I won't tell anyone."

"I know you won't," Luke replied. "I know you pretend to be aloof, but I see how you are with Kayla and the girls-you've got a gooey centre underneath. Plus you haven't outed Autumn, so why would you do it to me?"

"You know about Autumn?"

"We saw each other at a PFLAG meeting with our folks," Luke replied. "She told me how great you'd been about it, and I guess I believe you'd do the same for me, even if I'm not your friend."

"I will," Carrie promised. She turned off her light then, turning towards Luke. "And my dad funds a bunch of charities that help trans kids-if you want the name of any of them, you let me know."

"That'd be great Care, thanks," Luke said, his smile shining even in the moonlight.

"Can I ask you one question though?"

"Sure."

"Is the whole thing the only reason you wanted to share with Reggie? Because I've seen the way you look at him..."

Luke's reply was a pillow to Carrie's face-but it was all the answer she needed, and wondered if she could team up with Autumn to play match-maker.

OKAY, SO this one is gonna be an ordeal.

I set a 6-song limit for every other playlist I made, but this is the playlist that started it all. So, I didn't have a limit. So it's 12 songs long.

Which is honestly like a normal playlist length BUT it's gonna be a long breakdown which I will lovingly do because I LOVE Kristen with my whole heart. Either way, this is deffos gonna be a long post so read if you want (i would very much appreciate it obvi but I get this is pushing it).

Starting off strong with my main man John Darnielle. John, as prolific as he might be, did not write this song it is originally from the musical Godspell by Steven Schwartz. I was raised as a theater kid and I remember one summer my mom took out our cable and the only things we could watch on the tv were dvds and vhs tapes of musicals, and the 1973 Godspell movie was definitely one of my favorites. Its like "what if Jesus was around in the 70s and was a hippie clown and also was crucified on a chain-linked fence and beaten by cops" ...ah, good times.

ANYWAYS, I don't feel like I need to get into why this is a perfect Kristen song - I feel like it really gets to the divide between the way that Christianity is taught to kids vs the way it is enacted by the adults that do the teaching.

Ok so I was raised Catholic, which I feel like is a whole different flavor of religious trauma compared to Evangelical or Baptist vibes - which I feel like the Helioic religion gives. Either way, this song slaps and really gets to that Evangelical vibe.

Here's young Kristen Applebees - Chosen One of Helio- who just wanted to help people. She meets her first non-religious friends, plans to convert and save them, and then straight up dies on the first day of school. She comes face to face with her literal god, is disappointed and grossed out by him, and then is magically (and violently) revived.

Can you imagine her returning home, trying to answer her parent's questions about the first day, making it through dinner, crawling into bed, and just lying there? AHHHHHHHHHHH

This is just a fun song I see as Kristen finds her groove within the party, kinda around the DJ brains fight. Also it makes me think of the prayer chain thing that she had the whole party on at some point.

There's something about a Tori Amos song that never fucking misses. This song, for me, kinda gets at the part of growing up when you really start to uncover the truth of things for yourself, instead of listening to the things you were always told. Kristen buys the book of world religions and reads about the atrocities people did in her god's name. She is also told that the "cool camps" she was going to were run by an actual fanatical cult. Yikes.

7. Eldest Daughter, Isabel Pless

Okay, the thing about this song is that we get the root of it here in season one, and it shows up really lightly, but God almighty, do we get one hell of a payoff in the next two seasons. Damn. The first time I listened to this song I cried. It's on several of my dnd character playlists - because, for some reason, I can't stop making dnd characters with self-saccrificing tendencies. HM! I WONDER WHY?

But anyways, yeah... something something, Christian households raising their eldest daughters to be surrogate mothers and laborers, something something Kristen is a cleric while her brothers are paladins, something something Women being healers

8. Angel Eyes and Basketball, Foot Ox

Ok, this is full Christian guilt. I also really like the way this song is one of those upbeat but devastating ones because it makes me think about her inspiring speeches to her party members just being her ranting about how horrible everything is, and then they get +1 to attacks and extra hitpoints. Living La Vida Loca.

AGAIN TO MY CREDIT: I made this playlist in 2020 - two years before Stranger Things brought the song back to the general psyche. No shade, of course, to the stranger things; it's a perfect song to choose, and the scene effectively made me cry.

1: What inspired you to write the fic this way?

So, I looked for Astarion fics early on and saw a lot of Astarion/Halsin, Astarion/player and general pairings I wasn't super interested in, or scenarios I wasn't very interested in. I tried a few, didn't bookmark any, and was like 'hmmm, I expected some more angsty fics for Astarion.' At the time - which to be fair was quite some time ago and the fandom has grown since - everything biased towards very fluffy, or very dark, but where Astarion had the power and was the top, and it was just not quite what I was looking for.

I knew I wanted to do something with Astarion, but I didn't ship him with anyone. I don't ship him with Gale, I didn't want to write an Astarion/player fic, I don't ship him with Halsin, etc. (I am playing an Astarion/Gale run now, but mostly because I enjoy their bitchiness and not because I truly ship them). But when we started spending more time with Raphael I started thinking 'hmmMMMM WHAT IF....'

I looked for fics, there was like 3 at the time (literally, mine is the fourth in the rarepair on AO3), and it was like 'well.... ehhh.... we'll see.' At this point I knew what Astarion's endings were - good and bad, according to Larian - and I didn't like either of them. I was kind of salty in advance that some companions get very clear cut happy endings, and others get sort of...shafted either way. And around that time I was like well... if we take Astarion's 'good' ending (according to Larian) and then actually give him the things I wanted him to have at the end (sans my player character, because I don't like player/X fics), then I could do something with that.

I knew I was shipping him with Raphael, but I actually spent a fairly long time thinking about how to solve the sunlight issue, and what Raphael would want in exchange for that, and how much that would actually matter to him, and why he would offer something like that, and what that would mean for a run where he was killed. I made a lot of thorny choices early on, like killing off Hope (she survives in my run) so Raphael could return to the House of Hope, etc.

But yeah! Basically a very classic 'once more fandom wasn't delivering a weird specific niche thing I wanted in any pairing, so I found a weird rarepair that almost no one was writing, and decided to do what I wanted in that little corner' scenario + 'I love BG3 as a game but fuck what they did with Astarion's character right at the end, I'm going to make a third ending just for me.'

...I'm both really stubborn and pretty weird actually when it comes to writing fanfiction *hangs head*

I'm just kind of obsessed with Astarion, he's a very specific kind of character 'type' for me (he gives me Felix Harrowgate from Doctrine of Labyrinths vibes and frankly I wrote a similar-ish fic about him too at least in spirit). Raphael I find fascinating. Because we get so much less information about him, I can put more of my own needs for the fanfiction into him, and develop his back story in a more robust manner in a way that suits the pairing. Him being a cambion, being able to add monster fucker elements, being really certain mentally that he's like... that he doesn't have a very 'classically' human way of thinking, makes him extremely interesting to me as a love interest to write!

(Not gonna lie, part of me actively resents how fluffy fandom is getting, and I wanted to put more rape and dubcon into AO3 overall for Astarion in particular. Like, I want more angst and hurt/comfort etc. I get that his back story is tragic, but I also wanted to push that in a different direction, and I really love writing a character that's been through so much awfulness they become almost expectant of it? That's also a Felix Harrowgate vibe. It's fun kind of...guiding those characters specifically to a better place internally, and not just externally).

13: What music did you listen to, if any, to get in the mood for writing this story? Or if you didn’t listen to anything, what do you think readers should listen to to accompany us while reading?

The Palmarosa playlist! I put it on every time I write for this story. Some songs I listen to more than others, Trench and Menace generally accompany me during the more sexual scenes for example. And I have put on the instrumentals for I Want To Live from the official BG3 soundtrack (by Borislav Slavov) on repeat for sections as well. I still am expanding the Palmarosa soundtrack but I have enough kind of music to also be comfortable writing the story as well. :D

Technically, the human body is a conductor. Human souls are a part of the body, and given that souls are much more sensitive and fragile than anything external, that's my logic for why electricity might hurt him

If he could be safely consumed (I don't think he could be tbh, but I'm going with your questions anyway), I feel like the human body would probably reject it since it's a foreign substance. The body's never encountered something like it before, so it could be registered as something to get rid of asap

Assuming Nightmare can touch things and walk around without leaving wet handprints or a trail of any wet goop byproducts behind, I don't think it'd weaken paper. Not unless he has control over the amount of moisture he's giving off. In canon, I think his goop was meant to be acidic to some degree, so there's a good chance that you could dissolve lots of things in it, pills included

Then with taste and smell,, I'm gonna be real here, I don't think the goop would taste like anything good. It'd probably be gross, actually. The scent could maybe vaguely be like the scent of apples, but uh... maybe slightly rotten ones, at that

The last thing we want is for you to be hurt', and carefully passing you off to another soldier he trusts. Preston shrugs, closing his book and setting it on the desk. "As I'll ever be, I guess. I still don't think this is a good idea."

Brody puts a comforting hand on Preston's shoulder. "It's gonna be okay. If it works, I forget all about Madam Odius torturing me. If it doesn't, I continue coping. No harm, no foul."

"I'm not worried about you," Preston replies. "What if I mess up?"

Brody squeezes the hand on Preston's shoulder. "It's okay, Preston's. I have total faith in you."

Preston sighs. "Okay," he replies. "Let's try it out."

Brody lays down on the couch and makes himself comfortable. Preston's hands shake as he pulls out the old pocket watch and lets the watch drop so he holds onto the end of the chain. Brody watches the watch as it swings slowly from side to side.

"Keep your eyes on the watch. Watch as it swings. It swings back and forth. You're watching the watch." Preston had watched Now You See Me before he tried this, Brody can tell. The Red shuts that thought down before it can break his concentration.

Preston startles as Brody's eyes shut and he collapses back against the couch as if someone had hit his off switch. "Oh god," he murmurs, panicked. "Brody? Can you hear me?"

Brody slurs out a, "Yeah," and Preston feels like he can actually breathe.

"Okay," Preston says. He thinks back to the information he has from his spell books on hypnotism. Most sorcerers in the books had considered it a forbidden art. To mess with a person's memory is to commit an unspeakable crime. However, Preston had found a few and he holds to the rules they'd set in place like a life raft. "Brody, your mind is open to you. There is nothing you can't remember, there is nothing hidden from you." Brody makes a humming noise that Preston chooses to take as assent.

"Go back in you memories to the years on Galvanax's ship. Do you remember them?"

"Yes," Brody replies, hushed.

"Good," Preston soothes. He wraps one hand around his arm and rubs his shoulder, trying to soothe himself as well. "Think back to Madame Odius. To her torture and everything she's done. Do you remember?"

Brody makes a pained noise, but replies with an affirmative. Preston wants to reach out and touch him, but the books say not to so the Blue restrains himself.

"I want you to imagine the memories as file folders, okay? Take all those memories and put them into a box. The box is safe. The memories can't hurt you if they're in there." This tactic is mostly born of Preston's hands. His experiences with memories are to put them into a box and shove the box into the furthest corner of his mind. He's sure the therapist his teachers say he should see would love to talk about it. For now, though, Preston's thinks it should work fine here, too.

"Okay," Brody replies.

Preston swallows. "Now lock the box and set it on a shelf."

"Okay."

"This box is forever untouchable to you. You will not remember the contents of this box, when you awaken. You will not remember what Madame Odius did to you while you where on Galvanax's ship. When I snap my fingers, you'll awake with no memory of the box or its contents. Do you understand?"

This is the trickiest part. The hardest to get right. It has to be worded just so, or Preston could mess everything up.

"Yes," Brody replies.

"Okay," Preston says to himself. "Ready?" he asks Brody. "Three, two, one," Preston clicks his fingers again, once more commanding, "Wide awake!"

Brody's eyes snap open and he sits up. "Hey, Presto," he says. "Did it work?"

Preston shrugs. "You remember Madame Odius or her actions on the Warrior Dome?"

Brody frowns. "She didn't touch me on the Warrior Dome."

Preston breaks into a relieved smile. "It worked!"
