my roman empire

i am afraid that at this point in my life the rocky horror picture show is my roman empire. it is fueled by the fact that my local shadowcast has shows once a month so i am always either a.) having it on my mind after the month's shows just ended or b.) thinking about the next shows starting, who i'll be playing, rehearsing, etc. it is not helped by the fact that our cast has a discord where we discuss everything from helping each other with costuming to random memes, even during non-show weeks. AND it really doesn't help that two of our cast leaders have a podcast going through every minute of the movie where they nerd out about it, and they are very entertaining to listen to on walks.

He wasn't certain what possessed him to say it—the small confession, half flirtation and half honest statement. Because she didn't know, nor did he fully understand it. The way his pulse quickened when she said his name. How her touch—the innocent sort—made everything stand still. She did something to him, and he wasn't quite sure what name to put to it just yet.

So, he found out that even William Afton could get caught up in the moment, awaiting her response with searching gaze and a not unnoticeable flutter behind his ribs. But when she spoke, his whole countenance softened, eyes alight. His arm, tucked around her, pulled her—playful, given that they couldn't get much closer.

And then she said that.

He couldn't deny it; he froze up. This was usually the part where he cut things off as amicably as possible, ignored the rumors that he was a heartbreaker, and eventually fell into bed with someone else. But the usual urge to run wasn't there. It was suspiciously absent, replaced by a smile tugging at his lip, against his will but not exactly stifled either. "I'm afraid I did," he began, thoughts not quite keeping up with the need to speak. "You know, I don't think I've ever seen you look quite that nervous." His words were joking, but the quiet tone was breathless. He was giddy and nervous and there was some jumble of other emotions behind it all that he couldn't untangle right now. For now, he was beginning to settle more and more on giddiness.

He was grinning stupidly, tipping even closer into her space so that he could press a kiss to her shoulder. Then he was at her ear, whispering another confession: "Don't worry, pretty bird. I was just thinking that I like you far more than I planned."

He shifted back to better look at her, his grin started to ache his cheeks, but evidently going no where. "So," he began, humor edging into his words, "what was that about staying here forever?" And he was leaning back in, this time pressing his lips to hers in a gesture that felt almost too revealing—too tender, too sweet. But, well, if he was being honest, he liked her a lot.
