“the past is a grotesque animal” 8” x 10” canvas with acrylic paint, crayon, oil pastel, posca pen, & nail polish
i started this one the same day i started the last one if it wasn’t obvious by the theme of fan being the focus and an of montreal song being the inspiration,,, i just finished this one later because it’s bigger & i WANTED to use clay on this but i don’t know where my clay is….. MAYBE I’LL FIND IT NEXT TIME!!!!!! (HOPEFULLY) ALSO i know this one’s more choppy and messy and not as clean/flat colored as the last painting but that was SORT OF the point and also I REALLY DONT LIKE PAINTING LAYERS IT TAKES TOO LONG AND I AM VERY IMPATIENT … so i use crayon instead heheh

other versions as well!!!!! this time i put the non-shiny/glittery one as a secondary variation because the quality is SO BAD AND IT SCREWED THE COLORS UP . also kind of figured out how to get the glow in the dark to show up on camera … it’s brighter in real life & i had to use SO MANY FILTERS just 4 that 2 show up…….
#inanimate insanity#ii#ii fan#fan ii#ii mephone4#mephone4 ii#ii test tube#test tube ii#ii bot#bot ii#ii egg#ii baby shimmer#ii shimmers#I GUESS#?????#osc#object shows#jacks arts#artists on tumblr#can you guys guess who one of my favourite ii characters is (impossible)#I DO HAVE SOME THOUGHT PUT INTO THIS AND THE SYMBOLISM MORE THAN THE LAST ONE!!!! both pieces relate to the egg and test tube in some way#this piece also related to mephone and goes heavy with. religious imagery i guess??? i’m not christian and i’ve never read the bible idk#2 be honest i just like drawing fan like a kicked puppy

Sometimes I wonder who Sasuke is. Who he would be if everything that made him himself wasn't erased or sanded down into a blade
#Just sitting here... thinking about him...#Going thru the Sasuke feels rn#Nobody look at me#He's so special to me#He was seven :(#I refuse to compare trauma and say definitively who's life was worse but i think out of everyone I wouldn't make it through what he did#Because he wasn't a shinobi. Wasn't taught or desensitised to any of it. One day it was all there#And the next- torture and blood and screaming#Itachi when I get you#No but like. I think a lot about who Sasuke is#Who he couldve been#Thinking about Mikoto and how she was always there. Everyday. Writing a time travel fic from Sakuras pov just so I can stop the massacre and write Sasuke as a silly little child#And giving him lots of fluffy moments with him and his family and giving him aunts and uncles and a sibling and friends and romance???#I would never do that!!!#In case ur wondering I got rid of no angst actually I just gave a bunch of trauma to Sakura and fixed Sasukes then called it a day...#Gonna write Sasuke as just a normal guy with some normal Ninja trauma#Sasukesasukesasukesasukesasukesasukesasukesasukesasukesasukesasukesasukesasukesasukesasukesasukesasukesasukesasukesasukesasukesasukesasukes#Guys guess who my favourite character is (impossible)#naruto#naruto shippuden#uchiha sasuke#moldy-flowers#sasuke#sasuke uchiha#Sigh 😞#He's my boy...#My baby boy...#Sorry the tags aren't silly today the FND is not making my day very fun

Each Dialtown cast member shares their favourite Muppet!
Idea: Characters from the cast of Dialtown are asked to share their favourite characters from The Muppets, in order to get the Muppets fandom on board with DT, which winds up being a largely fruitless ordeal.
Gingi insists that Grover and Oscar the Grouch from Sesame Street are Muppets when asked, and takes it badly when Gingi is instead asked to name a character FROM The Muppet Show. The ensuing discussion that follows is much too rancid to be published online, making the time spent trying to calm Gingi down entirely in vain.
Karen's comments are not published as she refuses to do ANYTHING other than vent frustrations about Kermit the Frog, making her comments unusable as they would undoubtedly piss off a large section of the Muppets fandom, who largely venerate Kermit the Frog.
Randy tries to make an argument for Scooter being the 'best one', feeling that he, himself, is the scooter of the Dialtown cast, and thus, must stick up for one of his ilk. This answer is NOT published because the internet would tear him to shreds for playing devil's advocate for the worst Muppet.
Randy is then given another opportunity to pick a favourite Muppet, provided he selects a different Muppet. Randy picks Pepe the Prawn. When asked why Pepe is his favourite, tears well on his screen and he asks if he can leave to get a glass of water. Upon leaving the room, Randy never comes back. The answer isn't included in the article, as it's impossible to discern whether Randy feels that Pepe the Prawn is truly a kindred soul or if he was simply put on the spot and felt pressured to simply name the first Muppet he thought of.
Oliver answers by explaining Gonzo is his favourite but every time he's given an opportunity to explain why, his explanation inevitably transitions into a rambling endorsement of anarchism. Each time, after he's been given an opportunity to explain himself, Oliver is asked to rephrase his answer to be less political and he accepts, apologizing for his mistake and swearing that he understands what the blog is looking for now. Oliver then proceeds to somehow transition back into an endorsement of anarchism until the interviewer gives up and decides to leave him out of the article.
We're not actually sure who Norm likes the best from the Muppets cast because before we could get to Norm, Gingi (irate that Grover/Oscar the Grouch were rejected as its answer) told Norm about Big Bird dying in the Challenger explosion (which happened in DT's timeline), prompting Norm to get really upset and leave before his turn came up. Norm's favourite character is PROBABLY Sam Eagle, but now, we'll never get to know for sure. Thanks, Gingi.
Mingus, when asked, declined to answer out of sheer disinterest. Upon being shown a photo of the extended Muppet cast, she arbitrarily pointed to Robin the Frog and said "That one, I guess." Upon being asked why she would pick Kermit's nephew of all characters, her response was: "It's no business of mine who this frog is related to. Nobody is well-connected enough to ensure they'll live if I deem them a threat to my success." After being reminded that Robin is canonically a child, Mingus retorted by pointing out that Robin is, in fact, a fictional frog puppet. Not sure what to do with this answer, but we certainly can't include it.
Stabby + Shooty are asked for their favourites and they pick Statler and Waldorf respectively. When asked why, they explain it's because they're cool, wear suits, deliver CUTTING jabs, and each hang out with their best bro all day, not unlike themselves. The blog operator remarks: "Oh. I figured it was because, like you guys, they're kinda interchangeable and are pretty much overlooked by everyone", causing Stabby to angrily flip a table and storm out of the room. Shooty apologies meekly for his outburst and leaves to calm his companion down. The answer is not published as the interviewer had no clue which was Stabby and which was Shooty, thus being unable to accurately attribute the answers to either of them.
Bigfoot's favourite character turns out to be Animal, and this is the only answer that ends up being published.
Here's the finished article:
DIALTOWN ARTICLE, EACH OF THE CAST'S FAVOURITE MUPPETS: BIGFOOT'S IS ANIMAL.
The article only gets 3 likes.

Leo valdez x tutor!reader fluff with a bit of smut
Exposition Of Love
leo valdez x reader
or... the one where lines are blurring together
word count : 870
warning : none, english is not my first language!!!
on the radio : adore you by harry styles

🔨🌻
who would’ve thought that leo valdez, the nerdiest looking person in camp half-blood is in need of a tutor?
certainly not many, but here we are, with you sitting at a desk with hephaestus’ son, attempting to explain the concept of exposition in literature to him.
“you see? it’s just the first few sentences of the story, it gives you the basic information about the story, like main character, time, place, and the general topic of the story.” you said, pointing to the first paragraph of the (not so) short story you were reading in literature class.
“ohhh,” leo drawled out, tapping his pencil against the edge of the desk. “so it’s like the part where the hero gets his dramatic entrance?”
you couldn’t help but smile at his attempt to understand the material through his own perspective. “yeah, sure, something like that.”
he leaned back in his chair, the corners of his lips lifting into a playful grin. “got it. exposition. dramatic entrance. I can work with that.”
you shook your head, laughing softly. “you’re impossible.”
“impossibly smart,” he corrected, giving you that mischievous smirk that always managed to make your heart skip a beat. he stretched his arms above his head, his t-shirt riding up just enough to show a sliver of his toned stomach, and you quickly glanced away, focusing hard on the page in front of you.
you could feel his eyes on you, though, and it was hard to concentrate when he was so close. this wasn’t the first time you found yourself in this kind of situation with leo. ever since you’d started tutoring him, your sessions seemed to blur the lines between study time and whatever this was - lingering glances, teasing touches, and a whole lot of unresolved tension.
“so, does this make me your favourite student?” leo asked, leaning in a little closer, his elbow nudging yours. his voice was softer now, teasing but with an undertone of something more.
“you’re my only student,” you said, trying to keep your tone light and neutral, though your pulse quickened. “so technically, yes. but it also makes you my least favourite as well.”
“hmm, I’ll take it.” leo’s fingers absentmindedly played with the pencil, spinning it between his fingers. “but seriously, thanks for this. I know I’m not the easiest person to teach. I guess I’m more of a ‘hands-on’ kind of guy.”
there it was - that classic leo flirtation, wrapped in a joke but carrying just enough weight to make you wonder if he meant more by it.
you decided to play along, leaning in a little yourself. “well, I’m happy to help. but if you keep slacking off, I might just have to let you fail you.”
leo’s eyes flickered with amusement, but there was something else there, too - something a little more intense. “you wouldn’t do that. I’m too charming for you to let me fail.”
“charming?” you raised an eyebrow, pretending to consider it. “I don’t know, leo. I think you’re going to have to prove it.”
“oh yeah?” he leaned closer, his face now just inches from yours. you could feel the warmth of his breath on your skin, and your heart sped up. “how do I do that?”
you swallowed, suddenly very aware of the shift in the atmosphere. this was new. this was different. and for a second, you forgot all about exposition, literature, and camp half-blood. all you could think about was the way leo was looking at you, the way the space between you seemed to be disappearing by the second.
“leo…” you started, your voice quieter now, unsure of where this was going but not wanting it to stop.
he didn’t move away. instead, he tilted his head slightly, his eyes flicking down to your lips for just a moment before meeting your gaze again. “yeah?”
for a split second, you considered closing the gap, letting this thing between you finally tip over into something more. but before you could make a decision, someone cleared their throat from the doorway.
you jerked back in your seat, heat rising to your cheeks as you turned to see piper standing there, a knowing smile on her face. “am I interrupting something?”
“nope!” leo said quickly, straightening up and pretending to look intensely at the book in front of him. “just, uh, learning. you know, literature.”
piper raised an eyebrow, clearly not buying it, but she didn’t press the issue. “right. well, I need to steal leo for a minute. cabin leader stuff.”
“oh, thank gods,” leo muttered under his breath, shooting you a quick, teasing glance. “saved by the bell.”
you rolled your eyes, trying to ignore the lingering butterflies in your stomach. “you better study tonight, leo, or you’re going to fail the next test.”
“I’ll study, I’ll study,” he promised, standing up and tossing his pencil onto the desk. “maybe you can quiz me tomorrow? same time?”
you bit back a smile, nodding. “yeah, sure. same time.”
he gave you one last grin before following piper out of the cabin, leaving you alone with your racing thoughts and the memory of how close you’d come to crossing that line with him.

Hermitcraft / Life Series Fic Recs
Because I love so many of them...
I'll split the fics into completed and updating fics, and try to only recommend currently updating fics (i.e., not abandoned). I'm going to write a little about why I like each fic and what the general vibes are - so this is also a kind of review I guess?
I've tried to @ the authors if they have a public tumblr. Sorry to anyone who didn't want to be tagged, I can remove any @ if you ask (or if I have embarrassingly tagged the wrong person). Anyway, enjoy, and I appreciate reblogs because I want as many people to see these fics as possible!!
This ended up being incredibly long so I'm putting a divider here. Click to keep reading!!! Also, fair warning: shipping ahead! Some fics will have mild sexual content, please read the tags if you are unsure <3
Updating Fics
I have already recommended Help Me To Breathe, lost in the dark (he's got a heavy heart), and There Are Monsters Nearby in this post, so I won't explain why I like them a second time, but definitely check them out!!
Death's A Good Gig by @mawofthemagnetar is probably going to be finished by the time this post gets to you, reader, but I'm putting it here anyway. It's short and sweet, one of my favourite representations of Zedaph (or, Zedeath) I've read, and just a joy to experience. If you like grim reapers and discussions of unions, this one is for you. Also I need more Zedaph in my life.
Look, I'm Sorry, Please Stop Scaring Everyone by @cat-in-the-desert reminds me a lot of a particular TV drama I liked when I was younger, which followed a similar premise. This fic follows Mumbo (vampire) and Grian (ghost) as they get up to various housemate shenanigans and meet their local magic-expert and salesman Scar. This fic is fun, but still includes a nice amount of Feelings and hinted-at Angst which I really love. It's lighthearted, but never boring.
It Hurts To Hope by Inquillitory is my favourite of the "Grian crash lands into Hermitcraft and causes problems for everyone" genre. Seeing how many fics there are with that premise, I think that says a lot. It handles Grian's weird Watcher stuff really well. Honestly, I just want to know what happens next!
killing the boy in the tv by @raspberrystruck is like a sickfic on steroids. If you want Grian with so much past trauma he forgets how to function in society, this is basically the fic for you. I really love how hybrid traits affect the characters' interactions in this fic, and how everyone is kind of messed up because of the imbalance Grian brings. It is wonderfully descriptive in all the right places!
Love Me Like I'm Dead by @daniofcrows is such a gem. You know how hard it is to find good Xisuma whump? It's impossible. I absolutely love how Xisuma and Evil X are characterised in this, and I am obsessed with the unique take on hanahaki disease which I have never seen handled in this way before. The balance between flashbacks and present day is maintained wonderfully and I cannot wait to continue reading this one. Wow.
Oh, you wanted me to do a verse? by @bugbbear is... kind of indescribable. It's horror. It's comedy. It's the apocalypse. It's boatem. Scar eats someone. One of the most interesting and unique apocalypse stories I have read. Slowly updating but worth the wait, in my opinion. This one NEEDS more attention.
So Much For Stardust by @a-plethora-of-peters is basically one of my all-time favourites. Which is a damn good achievement seeing as I don't usually read ZITS fics. Like, ever. In this fic, Skizz is a human abducted and hurt badly by aliens, now recovering in the care of good aliens who don't know how 'sentient' he is. Every update of this one makes me smile, it is wonderful. I love how the characters are written and how the different perspectives are shown. It is just great.
Solar Waltz by @raspberrystruck and aroundtheclock is a brilliant and very very sad regression fic. I love fluffy regression fics as much as the next guy, but this one just... hits different. The hurt/comfort levels are off the charts. Grian is so damn cute the whole time, while also being harrowingly complicated and sad. I am so ready for whatever comes next.
Tango's Castle of Cards by @evilrat-sabre is the one where Tango is a BUG. He's just a little guy (horror). This one is so beautifully written, with poetry-type interludes and perspective changes that really make everything feel so much more impactful. Finding out your buddy is a murder bug isn't the easiest thing in the world. I love this so much.
Traveling Thieves {Dark Fantasy AU} (series) by @amethystfairy1 is basically one of the series of all time. I know I keep saying that but it really really is. I love a good fantasy au, and I love an au with hybrids even more. In this world, hybrids are treated like slaves, but it isn't all doom and gloom for the main characters of each installment. There is a lot of hurt/comfort and the different stories feed into each other in really interesting ways. I try to read as much as I can, though I've missed a few because my emails are buggy. Definitely worth reading these fics, especially since now they're all starting to come together!
Completed Fics
Solving Counting Sheep by @theminecraftbee might have rearranged my brain chemistry a little. Another strong contender for 'fics that inspire me to kill Grian', this time with a more concrete notion of "replacement". Three is my favourite fucked up living weapon. It's so rare to find Evo fics in this day and age, too. This fic had me immediately clicking on every update as soon as I got the emails.
Rescue Fire by @imaginethat0327 is one of the most unique takes on a fictionalised life series game that I have ever read. The whole concept is explained in a realistic and easy-to-follow way, as we learn what's happening with the characters. There are several brilliant storylines happening in this one, but my particular favourites are Jimmy & Tango, Joel, and of course Scar & Grian. This fic is full of whump and, well, read the tags, it isn't always pleasant, but those are my favourite things ever. Definitely worth checking out this fic and its currently updating sequel.
don't you know about me? by takenbadgering is a wonderful comedy of errors with just the right amount of angst for a realistic setting type of fic. If you enjoy polyamory miscommunications, rave aesthetics, kandi, school teacher dynamics, and a lovely blend between grumbo, cubscar, and mumscar, this is the one.
Eventually the Birds Must Land by @milo-hypno follows a polyam ship I would have never thought of, and I cannot believe how much I loved it. This married-as-friends fic premise is wonderful, and captures the main trio (Grian, Mumbo, Impulse)'s personalities so well, while balancing them with the incredibly terrifying descriptions of the Watchers and their power. There's a lot of angst here, but it is ultimately hurt/comfort to the maximum degree. I loved reading it as it updated. Yay for gay marriage!
From The Archives (series) by @sixteenth-days was the absolute inspiration for my own Comms AU, and I will never forget its influence on me. As someone basically unfamiliar with TMA, I thought this series might be hard to follow, but it was not! I read all 57 parts in the span of two days, and I think it altered my brain chemistry. Please read it, even if (especially if) you don't know anything about TMA. The Cleo and Grian storyline lives in my head rent free. I mean it. This is horror at its finest. Also there's an audio series of this fic being released rn, which is very cool.
SUPERCRITICAL by @masque-of-plague hits different. It is such a wonderful take on the superhero/HotGuy trope, and it gets so super dark at some points! This one really takes swings at it's fictional government, which of course I love, while at the same time building this brilliantly emotional relationship between Scar and Grian. I do enjoy a bit of enemies to lovers, but the actual plot mixed into the story makes this one extra special. It is thrilling, with action that I don't get to see too often! Great work.
I am weary with contending! is one of the mumscarian fics of all time. From 'this house has people in it'-type horror, to magic gone wrong, to childhood trauma, to attempted assassination, to gender fuckery, this fic has it all. Usually I don't go for convex siblings, but this one is good enough to get a pass from me. Amazingly detailed worldbuilding alongside a brilliantly creative story.
It Spreads by @foxxology may not count as a fic, actually. It's a comic. But it's posted on ao3 so it counts. I was obsessed with this one as it was updating, honestly. It rocked me to my core. The art is phenomenal. The writing is brilliant. I love sculk.
Luck of the sea by Sleepy_Duck is a lovely take on mermaid and human interactions, with Grian as a marine life conservator and Scar as a very neglected mer. This one takes us emotionally in all sorts of directions, and offers lots of hope for the future of the characters. I heavily enjoyed this fic - if you like mermaids and marine biology, check it out.
there are many downsides to being a marine biologist by donnerstag is another mermaid fic but with a pretty different vibe. First of all, it follows what I would consider a rarepair Doc/Martyn. Second of all, reading this as it updated was a thrilling experience that nearly made me cry at certain points. I love how the relationship builds in this fic. It is honestly amazing. The whole idea of experimenting on a sentient sea creature, learning that he can communicate, then losing funding and having to save him from being dissected?!?! It's crazy. I love it.
Thus concludes my fic recommendations. I hope you enjoy at least some of these, and consider reblogging to spread these wonderful fics around <3

Correct me if I'm wrong but out of everyone Wylan's morals are the most unstable but "correct" if that makes sense. Like, he won't ACTIVELY be VIOLENT but sometimes he does such unhinged and out there shit. He's morally gray but the shade of gray really depends. The bullet bomb thing. He was scared n stuff but he went out there bomb and all and BOOM bullet bomb. And the sleeping men thing. Sometimes they're out the window just because he's had to let go of some of them so fast. I mean think about it your dad sends you away but actually hires people to kill you so you end up in the barrel working at a dye shop until a guy with very nice lips comes and asks you if you know what demolition is and you say no but now you're a demolition expert for a team that's going to commit the world's most impossible heist commissioned by your dad so you're about to get on a boat and then it blows up so you have to get on to another boat and use a bomb to help in a fight and then you're on the real boat and you watch some guy pull out another guy's eye and send him overboard and- wow, all this just because you couldn't read. Damn.
"I didn't need you angry, I needed you righteous."
YEAH OF COURSE YOU DID CAUSE WHEN HE WAS ANGRY HE WAS ALSO SCARED AND A LITTLE BIT UNSTABLE. HE DID THINGS WITHOUT A COMPLETELY THERE CONSCIENCE. I can't make it make sense but please try to understand. Cause of course he HAS a conscience but when he was mad and scared it was slightly skewed so things were a bit OUT THERE. Also bonus points that when he's mad at Kuwei they go especially skewed lol. It's a certain type of anger. Idk. I just love Wylan getting angry and threatening to push Kuwei into a canal. Guys guess who my favourite character is

the dayshift at freddy's fandom has a big misogyny problem actually. people entirely forget about impactful background girl characters in favour of the fandom-favourite yaoi, and i kinda wish they didnt. i would love to see more caroline, dee, martha, and scottie/rebecca content!!
i hardly even see any art of caroline, who was revealed in the second game, anywhere. and the art of dee is just as sparing, and most art involving her usually is accompanied by another male character. rebecca is only ever drawn alongside the other 3rd game phone guys, and practically no one talks about martha despite her literally being married to henry before her and her son's death. they all have interesting parts to them that can be expanded on, even if martha and caroline lack canon personalities
while not my personal favourite headcanon, even het headcanons drive people away from characters. people dont even care about male characters it they're just married to a woman (ie, peter kennedy). people prefer steven just because hes gay, not for his own character. people only started caring about peter when the roger route for dialtown came out because they could ship him with roger, and in early dsaf when people shipped him with steven.
davesport isnt even beloved for the dynamic of the two characters, people just like gay ships. some people water down dave and jack an impossible amount. dave is a victim of manipulation & multiple lobotomies, and jack is someone who abandoned his younger sister at a restaurant & when given the knowledge, doesnt even entertain the idea of informing dave they've been lobotomized.
once again this is not to say ships are bad, i just kind of wish people cared about dee, caroline, martha, & scottie/rebecca. theyre all compelling characters even if we dont know much about people like caroline or martha.
but its whatever i guess

some kin drawings,,,

trying to experiment with a dragon appearence that i like but i don't know yet....
also long rambling about how i represent myself otherkin wise under the cut !!!!
since i have a hard time representing myself in a single entity, i have many many things i'd call forms ,,,
so um !! this is my ((or at least one of) my fallen angel form thingy,,, meant more as an ""embodiment"" of like. my vibe ??
a sort of concept of the glitch(tm)) based off of the guy i mentionned up there ((he's my glitchkin self !!!!!!
also !! i have many ocs based off of my own kins,, as in they do represent me in some ways but they aren't completely me,, mainly because, as aforementionned, i have a hard time representing myself 😭😭😭
respectively:
"intersect" (his two forms) which would just be. my computerkin ((strange !!! but the guy's brain is literally a computer,,,
asmael !!!! which is how i used to represent myself as a fallen angel,, i don't have a better image of him so here's a silly ms paint doodle lmao,, he still is me in some ways but not as much as before ?? if i can say it like that ?? whatever !!!
respectively:
marshatak,, my silly !!! to be fair i wouldn't be able to tell you to which kin i associate the guy but ?? it does feel like i associate him with my kins.. maybe i just kin him, i don't know 😭😭 (send help) but like. he shares some of my vibes,,, i see what i mean,,
terrora !!!!!!!!! same thing as marshy. probably more for my dragonkin though ??? dragon monster guy,,, and i kin the song he's based off of so i guess it helps lmao !!!!!
nicéphore,,,, also my dragonkin,,,, i should note that he was supposed to be my ""main fursona"" but like. yeah,, i still love him deeply though,, has many of my own characteristics,,
respectively:
martyre,,,,, raven//bird guy,, i love love birds,,, i might be birdhearted tbh (?) so yeah. he has a lot of themes i associate with myself,, ((like. the night. ravens. evil guy !! (half joking)
antechor. AUGH this guy ... well. he is probably one of the closest to me ((both physically and in character i'd say,,)) he is another form of my former truesona so yeah.
religion !!!!!!!! based off of my all time favourite album, the guy's a hyena/wolf/thing hybrid,,, and i'm kinsidering a hyena kin.. also i kin the album slash song he's based off of ,,, ,, misery
respectively:
amphibien, misérable & malvelut,, the three fish guys/creatures,,,, ☝️i'm also kinsidering the flukeman from the x-files so yknow,,, also i love sea creature,,, water creature,,, augh,,
and lastly,,, i do have one (1) guy who's very much me, and that i use as a representation of myself,,,
behold,,, the silly,,, la terreur !!!!! he technically has no name since before naming myself terreur i couldn't find a name that really fit me,,,, but whatever,, he's me, i am him,,,, yeah 🙏🙏
although kin-wise id say he'd be almost entirely just my fallen angelkin,, which is my highest kin right now but that's something to note,,
i was. not supposed to talk so much woah !! but yeah,,
asmael try not to ramble for an entire hour under a post that was supposed to be simple challenge: impossible

In defense of Jason Grace
I have seen many people through the years say they hate Jason, that Jason is their least favourite character in the series, etc. and all of their reasoning is because he's 'boring'. I admit, when I first read those books, I was feeling the same way. I wasn't the biggest Jason fan and I didn't think I would be. I even judged my friends for liking him, when there were other 'obvious' choices for favourite characters. Now, years later, I'm no longer 12 reading those books for the first time and I see Jason in a completely different perspective I would like to share.
Jason Grace was a child without childhood. He was taken from his family at two years old and taken to the Wold House, where he couldn't show weakness because then he would be seen as food - you cannot show weakness when you're being trained by Lupa. Which immediately strikes us with a, frankly horrifying, thought - Jason's first memories won't be of his mother, who wasn't the greatest parent anyway, or his sister Thalia, who loved him so much. It would be of what he was taught in a life-or-death situation, that you cannot show weakness. That's important to remember for later.
Jason also has had to carry an incredibly heavy burden since he first joined Camp Jupiter - he's the son of Jupiter, the King of the Gods. We have experienced first-hand what it felt like for Percy to have to go through being a child of the Big Three, but please keep in mind that when that happened, Percy was already 12 and he was a child of Poseidon. I'm not trying to say one of them had it harder than the other, because context is very important, but simply putting things into a perspective - Jason, a child who can't remember his family is put on a pedestal because of who his father is, with expectations being placed upon him immediately, as a, presumably, young child who has just been taught that life is either be strong or die.
And then, despite all of that, he decides that he will join the Fifth Cohort because he wants to write his own destiny, and because he wants to restore their honour. He's not only going against what others would expect from him, including his father, but he's also claiming a goal others perceive as impossible just to prove a point. Not a very boring thing to do, is it?
To continue adding to the list of things that Jason has done to prove that he isn't the prince-like, spoiled boring white guy some people in the fandom see him as, I want to talk more about the things Jason cannonically does at Camp Jupiter. He becomes friends with the 'least popular kids' because everyone else expects they would have to treat him like royalty, he goes on small quests that don't mean much because he doesn't want to be that hero and savior that's expected of him. He follows rules as to not appear spoiled, and even with his rule-following he appears to be 'unconventional' by Roman standards. He's the son of Jupiter, who's doing everything in his power to not conform.
And despite all that, he still manages to use his status to do what he thinks is right. Despite his efforts, he still ends up being the undoubted leader while everyone else is a follower. He listens to all sides, he tries to mediate to the best of his abilities. In his attempts to make everyone else an equal, he puts himself above them and makes them look at him for mediation and decision-making. For the twelve years he spends at Camp, he has eyes constantly on him, judging him, expecting things from him.
Now remember when I said that Jason tried to go to meaningless quests? Yeah, you can guess that didn't really work for him. Canonically, he has gone to many quests, including some that had been appointed to him by gods, such as Bacchus, so he was fairly unsuccessful there as well. And remember when I said that he was raised by a wolf to not show any weakness? I feel like at this point it should be pretty clear he internalized that, a lot.
I get why the debate 'who's stronger, Jason or Percy' happens in the fandom, but it doesn't mean it annoys me any less. Because most of the time, the only arguments are pointing out Percy's strengths and we're forgetting that Jason does some pretty incredible things as well. Jason, like Percy, also fought a Titan single-handedly, and won. What we know from canon about it, it's that he did it with sword-fighting and, interestingly, hand-to-hand combat, which is what the books mainly focus on when talking about his feat. Jason went up against a Titan and smacked him with his bare hands enough times that he won. And in the entire fight, Jason using his powers is not mentioned once. Which is a pretty constant thing, if I might add, but I'll delve into that more later.
Again, a common mischaracterization I see in the fandom is that Jason is this strictly rule-following, rigid, stick-in-his-ass guy, when he really isn't. One of the main things about him is that he's too relaxed for Camp Jupiter. After the war, when he tried to change things about Camp, he was unsuccessful because Camp Jupiter is too traditional and Jason's ideas weren't conforming to that.
And of course, it was Jason who welcomed the two kids of Pluto (Hades for Nico but you get my point) to Camp. I feel like it should be pretty clear to you why at this point, but let me repeat - Jason knows the pressures of being a child of The Big Three, and Jason isn't afraid to be friends with the 'not cool' kids, with the people who are looked at as weird or that are treated as outcasts. He does some of it out of spite, yes, but he was what, fourteen? Thirteen? At the time. That level of emotional maturity for a barely teenager is surprising as is.
Also, can we note that Hazel describes Jason as closed-off, hard to read and 'more of a legend than a man'. This thirteen/fourteen year old? This should be enough to tell you how Jason was treated and raised and why he is the way he is. 'Boring', because this child needs to be an example for an entire camp that has placed him in that position he didn't want in the first place but felt guilty and responsible to take. When Percy was thirteen-fourteen, he was being an ass to Tyson (which he later regrets, yes) and fights with Thalia (which they stop doing, yes) and Camp Half-Blood still sees him as more of an annoyance than a hero at that point. That doesn't change for Percy until The Battle of the Labyrinth. Jason never had that. He was spotlight leader from the second he was at camp.
He also didn't have an Annabeth and Grover, at least that we're explicidly told about, and his closest person was Reyna, who also had a crush on him, so who was Jason's platonic best friend in Camp that he could rely on for anything? We don't know. Maybe because he didn't have one? I'm just putting that idea out there.
Now, I will try to be more brief on Jason in the series, but with the speed with which we're going, that is kind of unlikely. First and foremost, Jason is an amnesiac who never gets his memories fully back. I want to focus so much of your attention on this. Jason wakes up and he doesn't remember, excuse my swearing, jack shit. He doesn't know who he is, what's his favourite colour, what music he likes, nothing. Nada. He is then told, again, he's the son of Zeus, he is sent on a quest with people who don't actually know him but have expectations for him, while he still doesn't remember anything. He is also fifteen. He is a child that people are judging for being 'too boring' of a character. Well excuse him for not having any memories so he can have a proper personality!
Excuse me, I'm getting a bit heated here. I feel I'm making valid points though. Because Jason's story keeps repeating - he goes to Camp, people start looking at him like he might become the new Percy or some variation of that, he has these friends with false memories of him, he is also trying to save the world in the meantime. I'm very sorry he doesn't have time to figure out his personality in the meantime.
This is what I think is the most tragic about Jason's character - he doesn't have the time to figure out who he is truly is because he's too busy helping everyone else, even if what he's helping with is stopping the end of the world. He is a hero of the Great Prophecy, which again links with his destiny and how there's no escaping it and he, again, doesn't have any choice in what happens. He was unconventional for Camp Jupiter because of his disregard for tradition, but he's not fully accepted in Camp Half-Blood either because he's still a Roman demigod.
And then the Burning Maze happens and we don't talk about it because Uncle Rick hates us. I refuse to read that book because if I don't, then Jason is happy and alive.
We should note, though, that Jason and Piper have broken up. And I believe the only reason they ever dated was because Piper had that expectation of Jason, and we've already established how he was raised. He is a people-pleaser because that's what he's had to be for his entire life. He can't disappoint people, because then he would feel guilty, and so I believe he gaslit himself into thinking he liked Piper romantically because otherwise he would have to hurt her. And I do believe Leo and Piper are the first real friends Jason has made, at least those who see him as truly human, and so he didn't want to lose Piper. So, he made her and himself believe he liked her and started dating her. I think he would've done the same with Reyna if he'd remained in Camp Jupiter, for the same reasons - expectations. He also has raging abandonment issues, so. Double fuck there.
In summary, because of his personality and parentage, Jason has never had the choice to put himself first. He hates the framework in which he's put by being the son of Jupiter, but he swallows that for the sake of others.
Well that was quite the rant. I have more to say, but this is already too long. After this post, I have become a Jason Grace stan. If, one day, he has no fans, it's because I have died. Jason Grace is my son and he's very much alive, thank you (not you, Rick Riordan. I don't thank you). Anyway, please like this post? I would super appreciate it. I would also love a discussion! - mia

for the question ask!

Thanks for the ask! 🥰
🍦 ⇢ name three good things about a character you hate
Oof. It’s hard to even think of a character I hate. Even the ones I dislike ultimately contribute to the stories I love.
*spoiler warning for ACOTAR*
I guess I’ll do Tamlin from ACOTAR. Kinda boring because we’re supposed to hate him, but yeah he’s not my favorite.
1. He’s doing his best. He’s not a good guy, but I don’t think he knows how to be a good guy.
2. He has room for growth. He is not evil or cruel or sadistic. He’s emotionally immature and broken but I think he has the desire to do better, to be better, and I honestly hope we see that from him in future installments.
3. His house sounds bomb. Very classic, regency era vibes. Checkerboard tile floors? Hell yeah. I would live there.
🎨 ⇢ link your favourite piece of fanart and explain why you like it
Oh man, it's impossible to pick just one.
Twice now, I have been blessed by artists who have created pieces based on my fanfiction. It's such an honor to have someone use their time and talent bring my story to life, and these works will forever hold a special place in my heart. There's this one by @kangdae95draws, and this one by @mienaime.
On top of those, this piece by @littlewitchbee lives in my head rent-free. Not only is it stunning, but the layers of meaning are just so powerful.

Æon Flux and the end of all things
I don't remember the first time I heard of Æon Flux but I sure as hell remember the first time I watched it, and it wasn't too long ago which would technically not warrant the level of obsession I have for that shit, but here we are anyway.
I was knocked the fuck out on painkillers, two of my wisdom teeth freshly removed, not even remotely worried about the exam that I had coming up in like two days from then. So I was barely moving away from my swivel chair and sleeping on a whole ass armored pillow to prevent from tossing and turning and shit felt so surreal to me. It was like the eating chair from the last Cronenberg movie. So I delved into Æon Flux essentially blind and bingewatched the shit out of it. Twice. Ended up downloading the whole thing from some sketchy ass 1080p remastered torrent, rewatched it again, and spread it around personally in a more cauterized Google Drive folder (so if you guys got a nasty ass virtual STD from it, my bad I guess), not even a month after watching the series. Shit was fucked, in short, and every rewatch just fueled this obsession even further.
(image taken from Episode 1, Season 1)
One thing about me: when I obsess over stuff I want to draw something at the very least inspired by it. Happens to me a lot with Autechre, who are actually one of maybe three bands I would not hesitate to call my favourite based on an absolutely objective principle which is absolutely not up for discussion and which might be the object of a future post at this point. But the point is fucking Æon Flux is essentially impossible to replicate because Peter Chung's character designs are so recognizable that you start seeing them in literally every other movie that came out in the late '90s/early 2000s - and for reference, Æon Flux was brought to an end in 1995. Consequently, all attempts at drawing Æon Flux-inspired stuff end up either feeling very derivative or looking like fucking trash. Artistry is a weird thing because sometimes it inspires other people, other times it just inspires man-slaughtering rage.
Somewhat many of my friends are or have at one point tried to be accomplished visual artists. Some have made it to professional/teaching level, some others have an art school diploma or degree - and I'll be using this space to shout out @coto-letta aka V., who has recently rejoined Tumblr after years of absence. We met on here, when her handle was much different, and I mistook her for an ex of mine (whom, surprisingly, we are still on relatively good - if quiet - terms with) so I slid into her DMs as you do, and she was like "yeah actually I have no clue who the fuck you are I just think your blog is neat and dropped a follow" which was quite a fundamental moment in understanding that while my life was written like a dodgy soap-opera, that didn't mean I was the centre of the entire world. Anyway, the reason I'm shouting her out is because sometimes something deeper and older than you remember has a way of finding you again when you least expect it and that's what happened when in January 2023 (after V. had left Tumblr for at that point about two years and we had exchanged Instagram accounts) I somehow ended up on her Insta and found out she had been tagged in a picture taken somewhere that looked suspiciously like my university's conference hall and I could not fucking believe she was in my city. I slid into her DMs again, as you do, and found out that no, that wasn't my uni's aula magna, but yes, she was in fact relocating in my city for her master's. So we met up after maybe seven years of on-and-off Internet friendship. It's a neat story, sure, but how the fuck do we tie it into Æon Flux?
(image taken from Episode 3, Season 2: Leisure)
Not trying to be overly dramatic here, but Æon Flux to me is just about a condensation of everything that "art" can mean. Not just visual flare or style, not just deep meaning or interesting ways of putting across one or more questions and never a definitive answer to any of them (more often than not, it's sets of possible answers - usually two, neither of which ends up covering the whole array of possibilities, both of which actually leave a lot to be desired in a number of different ways), not just this insane fucking music that toys with everything you expect from animation courtesy of Drew Neumann who may just rank as one of the best soundtrack artists ever in virtue of this single work. It's the whole package. You would think it'd work taken in pieces, and it does, no objection to that: but it works even better as a whole package. If the moral questioning (and the philosophical musings of season 3, which is unjustly underrated because "it's too normal" by hipster wannabe critic dilettantes who like to think that they could do better than that. Everybody else on the other hand is generally able to stop pull their head out their own ass and recognize, at the very least, the excellent craftsmanship and talent that went into the ten long episodes) wasn't accompanied by the weird fetishistic sex it'd be somewhat less impactful, almost like a cauterized Tenshi no tamago made into a series for mainstream late-night TV audiences. The twist was that MTV's executives, at the time, "didn't understand [the double entendres], they didn't even notice them. So, we were okay", in producer Japhet Asher's own words in the short documentary Investigation: The History of Æon Flux. The network was, in fact, trying to break into the mainstream - they simply couldn't keep their creatives at bay. No wonder they turned to Jersey Shore as they went along.
(image taken from Episode 5, Season 3: The Demiurge)
Even just the main characters' purported edginess, clearly something "of its time", is never played entirely straight. Both leads are way too complex, and very clearly presented as such, to be just summed up by "Æon Flux is an anarchist/Trevor Goodchild is a dictator". Both of which are true, by the way, they're just one part of a full picture. Even within the context of its necessary linearity - this is still an animated short and as such moves only in one direction, even though a number of episodes (specifically Mirror and Chronophasia) deliberately fuck with the viewer's perception of times on varying degrees of diegesis and extradiegesis - the series could be perceived as, indeed, a sandbox: consequently, the viewer could set sail and explore it. This is further encouraged by the series's active weirdness to whoever would want to try and make sense of the world's story. There is no history, there is just the story at hand: an eternal present which you can't understand ("un eterno presente che capire non sai": Ferretti knew his shit, regardless of how it went after CCCP) and which Æon and Trevor are not interested in even trying to contextualize. Not a surprise then that they'd be into each other: their closeness in body and heart doesn't exist at the mind's level, and the whole thing falls apart miserably every time it looks like they could be finally let their weapons down. But as Æon completely understands, and as Trevor seems to actively try to ignore, the fight is already the whole point: star-cross'd as they may be, the entire act of playfully hunting each other for sport both in the bedroom and on the battlefield is what Trevor Goodchild and Æon Flux thrive on. Trevor wants stability but an Æon who doesn't fight back is simply not Æon; Æon does not want the stability, but she definitely likes Trevor to an extent and finds more in common with him that she would probably be willing to admit (I would like to thank Tumblr user @brw on thons very good analysis of the episode A Last Time for Everything, which heavily inspired this section of the post!). In short: if Trevor seems to embody Pier Paolo Pasolini's idea that "there is nothing more anarchistic than power" ("non c'è nulla di più anarchico del potere") then Æon flips the statement on its head: "there is nothing more powerful than anarchism". That is, of course, until we once again confront my signature ad-hoc elephant in the room that this statement just summoned.
(Image taken from Episode 1, Season 1)
No spoilers intended, but if you so much as google the name of the series you will easily find out that Æon Flux dies a whole lot throughout the series*. Season 1 and all the shorts from season 2 end with her dying ungrateful deaths and a couple of the long episodes leave much to be desired in the way of positive closure, with Ether Drift Theory representing a peak in bleakness for season 3. Most of the shorts where Æon dies imply that either absolutely nothing changes in the world around when she's lost or that Trevor Goodchild literally just succeeds in all of his goals (see Season 1's finale), and one could make a case that even if she did carry her missions through there would be absolutely nothing to show for it: somebody goes up the chain of power, everything is restored, there is one more tyrant to murder. Not to be that one guy who quotes Nietzsche about everything, but the eternal recurrence of the same is the first thing that comes to mind when watching Æon Flux, especially exemplified and even literalized by the episode War, possibly the best of the short ones: it's the same fucking story four times over a five-minute run time and nothing ever gets better for anyone. The body count in the episode is unquantifiably large - every one of the fallen a potential new Æon Flux or Trevor Goodchild. But this, in a way, implies that Æon keeps being reborn, and one could argue that the act of capturing a fly with her venus-fly-trap eye could simply be her coming back to life, as it were; stopping the most evident sign of decay, turning her eyes outward yet again, to face the eternal return of the same again and again and again…
(Image taken from Episode 8, Season 3: Ether Drift Theory)
You can find Æon Flux for free on the Internet Archive.

Last Monday of the Week 2024-06-03
Finicky little situations
Listening: I had a hankering for some Clark Powell and went looking through her Bandcamp, and listened to Labyrinth's Heart
This album is really interesting, in that a lot of it ends up in the Psycholonials soundtrack, almost all of it really. Forgotten is the basis for the interstitial chapter music and finale track, Misbegotten has the foundations for one of my favourites, Outlaw.
Clark's more recent stuff is this extremely chill pop-y sounding music, and through association with Psycholonials it is perfect hot summer day background music.
Oh also. Finished S4 of The Magnus Archives. Bold way to end the season, just blam hey hello we're ending the world. See you on the flipside!
I will say that I do not really get where John/Martin is really meant to go, and I know people did not like the last season that much, but I have found it pretty good. It is getting a little too close to exiting the Monster Of The Week mode that I prize so much, but it's still there.
Watching: DeviantOllam's extremely good long talk on fire safety code, ostensibly in the context of using it as a cover for breaking in to buildings but it is honestly mostly just a chance for a bunch of nerds to learn about extremely specialized tools and get more niche facts about the built environment. This is that four hour disney star wars talk for people who have NFC card reprogrammers.
youtube
DeviantOllam does some really great talks on a lot on physical security but is also just, very good at talking, he delivers things in a way that gets you invested in it even if you had no idea you would care.
Reading: A little shy of halfway through The Book of Dust by Philip Pullman, the second book in the new trilogy The Secret Commonwealth, which started with La Belle Sauvage. I read La Belle Sauvage a few years ago and had to go refresh on a synopsis.
Philip Pullman is a truly great writer, and now that he has killed god in this universe he can focus on more interesting things, like philosophy of the soul when some (or potentially all) of your soul is also a kitty cat.
Jumping us forward to 20-year old Lyra is a bit of an adjustment. You get so used to thinking over her as the very specific like 12 year old that she is throughout His Dark Materials. She says fuck now! It's also exceedingly funny that she appears to have fallen in with The Rationalists in a world with witches and magic. I guess spoilers?

Every now and again I remember how impossibly heartbreaking the end of Amber Spyglass is and I'm like holy shit he really did that to his readers. I think it took me about a week to pick up a different book after I finished that.
Playing: Beat dark souls! More extensive talk about that in the #dark souls tag.
youtube
The story is of course homeopathic. Like Pyre, the game takes place after all the interesting stuff, but unlike Pyre, there isn't really a strong core of characters to watch through the aftermath. I'm not entirely clear why we were trying to link the flame, other than that the guy in the Asylum told us it was a legend.
Ultimately, unimportant, the gameplay is mostly great! The final bosses are a little weird, they feel weak and their areas all feel like they're missing something, but I quite liked Nito and the Four Kings, and Seath was mostly fine. Hey wait, the furtive pygmy! I forgot about the furtive pygmy, just like they said! Nevermind fuck everything I just said, best game in history.
I will go back and try to NG+, also some people mentioned the DLC which I have no idea how to access, but I will look that up probably. It sounds like there's some good bosses in there.
The combat really is fun, although I maintain that there are lot of combat issues that are really more like UI issues than actual game design issues, things like the parry mechanic being so fiddly and the upgrade system being inscrutable.
Making: LuaLED has me in a hole because I have to do Web Shit and I do not know how to do Web Shit. This is a me issue not a Web issue, I just never really put the time into learning more than the basics of HTML and HTTP.
Tools and Equipment: aerc is a simple email client for the terminal.
I have used various Mail clients over the years and I always find myself gravitating back towards just using whatever web client my provider has because I don't give a shit and I don't get that many emails, but I have recently wanted to handle my work emails from the terminal for reasons, and I tried out aerc. I've previously used Mutt but setting up Mutt is a huge pain in the ass and it has one billion controls that mean nothing if you're not doing mailbox stuff, because it's from ten thousand years ago.
aerc is stripped down and optimized for a few specific use cases, one of the big ones being "handling emailed git patches" which I don't do much but do do sometimes. It's also a pretty nice general text mail client, it's easy to set up and it lets you get into using it very easily.

I love how even here, our conversations just end up becoming so long.
It’s nothing 😊 Sounds good. I know the replies will be great whenever they arrive and I’m just glad being able to talk to you like this as well. Thank you. I actually forgot to mention that on Christmas Day we saw the latest Doctor Who special so that was fun as well. My brother also made some cocktails for himself and our parents so yeah, it was a nice small celebration. It’s alright. We’ll probably see them later this year and it’s kinda like because the family is so big on his side (he’s one of 6 and they all have at least one child and a partner) and there are other Christmas Eve celebrations going on and the hosts had to go to a wedding abroad from a colleague so yeah, that’s why. Thank you. Yeah. Like his mum brought a big picture of him and put it on the table in the room next to the dining table so in a way he was still there with us. His parents have actually gotten a small dog so that’s nice. And yeah, I did. The youngest cousin who’s there, she always has some kind of games with her so we all played this dice game called ‘Worms’. That makes sense. I saw in another one of your replies that you’re now mainly listening to Christmas music so it’s nice that you get to celebrate it a bit, even if it’s much later. I see. That’s amazing. And that’s great to hear 😄 I’m glad you have such people in your life.
I see. That makes sense but still the fact that you did that and more even in the past is impressive. And fair enough. Taking it easy is a good thing and you’ve been posting some wonderful things so that’s nice. Yeah, I saw and gods, it all sounds so cool and fascinating. And yaay that you’re so excited about it 😄 I see. Is that 40 weeks after each other or is there a break between as well? And yeah, of course. I wish you the best of luck with it all 🍀
Still so funny to me. There are some clips on YouTube of it but they’re probably the wildest parts. I’ve never checked them out, I’ve just seen them in my recommended so you could watch something like that if you want. And that’s nice 😄 Thank you. And that makes sense. Like I can usually at least guess what someone’s saying if I missed a word or so and it’s at an intense moment but yeah, like last week I was watching an anime that had started airing last month and I didn’t catch what one of the characters had said, so I had to go back, even though it was an intense moment. I read the manga almost 5 years ago (started it then, it ended in 2022) so I kind of know what’s going to happen so I think in that case, the excitement of knowing what’s to come and seeing it all animated is definitely helping me. And reading the manga is good for that reason, especially since you can also just pause for a bit to sit with your emotions and you don’t have to worry about the episode. That’s a good solution 😄 Same here. Yep and indeed. I feel like it’d be impossible to redeem someone like Overhaul. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on it all once you’ve finished it. Yeah. Binging is easier to do when it comes down to action series. Yep. Though in a way also not because a few months after the last chapter dropped, the mangaka released an epilogue chapter and I saw all kinds of stuff about it online, saw that my two favourite guys were in it but at that point it wasn’t translated yet and I haven’t bothered to look it up yet. But yeah, I finished the entire main manga when it came to an end. Yep. Haven’t spoken about his English VA before but it is kind of funny. Ooh. Nice. Hope you have loads of fun doing it 💞
True and hopefully you find some really fun ones. I see. Thank you 😊 And yaaay to you loving the Shiratorizawa training camp arc. I’ve seen people mention that some people don’t like it because of how embarrassing Hinata was but I never once disliked anything about it and the main posts I see are of people who do like it. He wants to grow and I love him. Indeed. It’s so good. It’s such a cool mood to be in and I love that you have multiple series to go through. Me too 😭 Yeah, kind of same. Because yes, I wanted to see more of Oikawa but even then I had other faves and then during the Battle at the Garbage Dump, Kuroo was just so great that I thought he’d become my ultimate fave but then Oikawa appeared later and fell on his face after being so confident 😂 But no, obviously it’s his whole growth and who he is as a person when we meet him again that made me be as not normal about him as I am. The timeskip really is a godsend. Indeed. Like we see what everyone is doing after the timeskip and I love that so much. The dedication truly is amazing. Okay. I kind of presumed since it’s said that only the physical volumes have it and I got a physical volume and now I have that scene so close to me 😭 And that makes loads of sense and I love it. Like random example but every single Bokuto and Kuroo interaction is just so beautiful and you can truly tell just how good they get along by those interactions.
Yay to the fact that you managed to find them 😄 Hell yeah. It truly is. It’s painful. Also, speaking of terrible pacing, I rewatched The Battle at the Garbage Dump last month since I had adapted it all and figured that it would be a good time to rewatch it and my opinion on the movie has dropped so much. I don’t think I’ve told you just how dirty they did Yaku in the movie. I saw posts about it on Tumblr but seeing it, seeing that he’s not allowed to have just one perfect receive, just makes me sad. Not only that but most of the other characters also didn’t get their grand moments and Karasuno weren’t even allowed to celebrate winning the second set. It was so rushed. And like sure I loved Bokuto’s moments and Kuroo also had a funny moment but yeah, it was a bad adaptation and it’s just sad to see just how badly the studio want to wrap it all up and not give the series the full adaptation that it deserves. Also, Bokuto praising Yaku, not there. Bokuto’s other main moments were, just not that. And yes, that Bokuto moment of him begging the ref would have been amazing to see. Yeah. It’s like in the end scene of the VS. Failing Grades OVA we see Bokuto and Akaashi interact and that’s used as kind of the starting point of Bokuto and my OC’s main relationship. Yeah, Lev is great. Thank you for liking my description of Yaku and thinking it’s accurate. But he’s also a proud upperclassman at times and just great. I see. That makes sense since I also have that with some of my stories, where I love the character far more than the series itself. And that’s great the hear that you also get a timeskip there 😄 And yeah, seeing how characters end up as adults is always fun.
You calling it a treat makes me so happy. Indeed. And you just worded it all so perfectly. Thank you. And yes to all of that and he did 😭 Though of course he still acted like a fricking child when he saw Ushijima again in ‘A party reignited’. He is 28 there and gods, he’s so silly 😭 But he’s clearly become so much healthier as seen after that silly moment and I love that for him. That would have been so nice. Like I would have especially liked to see Oikawa and his nephew together before the moment with Kageyama when Oikawa was taking all of those pictures. Yeah, it’s the only way I feel like I can accurately describe them and thank you. I’m also really looking forward to where I go with him in my story. Like obviously I’m also looking forward to all of my Bokuto parts of the story but Yaku’s got his own story within the story and I’m just so excited about writing the OC I thought of for him. She just feels so cool. Oh that’s nice to know about Ryohei. And understandable when it comes down to Shōhei since I too really like him. And as a Chūya fan I approve of what you said about him.
Wind Breaker might one day become one of our shared fandoms since I looked it up on MAL and it sounds interesting enough. It is amazing and just really great. Love some good character growth and his smile in the last picture is just so heart-melting. And no problem. I love seeing other people ramble about what they’re passionate about and what you said about Jo made me smile. Oh and all that about Wind Breaker sounds so good. Really should check it out at some point. So I’m looking forward to seeing it all when I finally watch that as well.
Me too. Like I’ve got the final three volumes of the manga and I’m just looking forward to reading about Hinata there. The first few chapters, unfortunately the ones with Oikawa, are in the previous volume so I’ll have to read them online before I get to the physical copy but I’m looking forward to it nonetheless. Also, love that in one of the volumes that I have it has Oikawa judging Iwaizumi’s selfie so I am glad that I’ve at least got that. It’s difficult to say just how loved Iwaizumi is compared to others but yeah, it is like one of those things that I’ve seen that has stuck in my mind. And don’t feel bad. Different people love different characters for all kinds of reasons and you love a whole bunch of characters so it’s alright. And it makes sense since we don’t get as much time with the other Aoba Johsai members (apart from Kunimi and Kindaichi) in the series. There is also a Aoba Johsai Drama CD that is just ridiculous and it gives a bit more insight into the team’s relationship. It’s called ‘Oikawa "Hanger" Tōru-senpai’ and by the gods, he’s so silly in it 😭 And thank you for that 😊 I sent it all when I first read this message and hope it all makes sense. Thank you for saying that about the length. It never looked like any of your stories were bloated to me since they’re always just such a great read. It is 😅 And I’ve still got so much more to write. Well the main things are going to college / university, saying goodbye to someone important on Sayuri’ side (I know we’ve talked about all kinds of Haikyuu!! spoilers here but I want to keep this one vague), then the MSBY Black Jackals vs. Schweiden Adlers match, followed by the Olympics and then finally the proposal, followed by the grand (or not so grand) wedding. And those are just the main, main ideas I have since I also have some smaller ideas before they graduate high school. I enjoy some bits more than others but overall, yeah, I’d say that I enjoyed it. Like especially the chapters that are just purely Bokuto and Sayuri centric. They’re so cute but also absolutely hopeless in their own way. Thank you 😊 He is 😭 Yeah, like Hinata gave all of the members of the Japanese Olympic Team a personalised message of some sort while asking them for an autograph. Because yes, she’s a huge Oikawa fan, but she still loves the others as well.
Nice to know that Karma’s still among your faves even though he’s been overtaken. And Korosensei is an amazing character (with an amazingly great voice in Japanese) so it makes sense that he’s your fave. And that’s nice to hear 😊
C
They do, though I didn’t ramble as much in this one haha! I’m still going to hide it under a cut because of length, for those readers who aren’t so interested in reading this!
Still, thank you again 😊 I am working on them, they’re just slow going. I admit I keep getting distracted by other things to write. At the moment, I’ve gotten huge into a reading mood so I’m trying really hard to build the queue up again because it’s not quite as long as I’d like! Thankfully everyone’s been great about sending in asks, even though they’re largely NSFW ones that I know aren’t your thing, which is helping me build up the queue fairly large. With at least a couple months in the queue, it helps me relax and take all the time I need to tear through rereads of several of the series I write for on here! Since I read fairly quickly, I’m hoping to tear through three or four of them before I lose the reading mood and switch back into writing mode. It’s so nice though, I agree, that we can talk this way as well!
Ohhh, the newest Doctor Who special! What did you think of it? I’d love to hear! And I’m so glad you got time with your brother 😊 I know how much you enjoy that and how happy it makes you! Is he and your parents doing well? Has he finished his studies yet? Though holy! One of 6??! That’s not really all that common where I am, and when it is, it’s normally people of like my grandparent’s age. It’s so cool that you have so much family though! That makes me happy for you and I’m also really glad that his mum did that. It’s always nice to remember those you have lost at such a family-centric time! And aww, new puppies are fantastic and I hope it will help his parents aas they go on! Oh, I don’t know that one! I had to look up the game and it sounds like a lot of fun, though it doesn’t look like it might be the easiest thing to learn. And I am still listening to a lot of Christmas music though I am starting to shift away from it a little bit, only because someone brought up concerts they would have loved to have gone and watched at work the other day and some artists I’d never really listened to got brought that I had to go check out, along with some I haven’t listened to in ages. And I really lucked out that way. I might not have a ton of irl friends, but the ones I do are the best of people and I am genuinely lucky to have them.
Thank you for saying that 😊 It’s very kind of you. I don’t know if it’s a good thing taking it easy, since my OCD brain does tell me that for me personally, productivity should be a 24/7 thing, but I do know I’m enjoying the blog and the act of writing so much more now that I am taking it more on the easy side. I’m so glad to hear you’ve been enjoying what I’ve been posting though. That always makes me so happy as a writer and it makes me more motivated to keep posting and writing things that hopefully you and the others will all like. I’m so happy with it. It’s not the career path that I originally saw myself going, but I’m glad I stumbled into it. And the 40 weeks is without a break in there, so it’s going to be a hectic, busy time, but I know I can do it. Thank you so much for the good luck wishes – I will definitely need them when it comes to tests and such, as I get such bad test anxiety haha.
You know, I hadn’t really thought about looking at YouTube to see if I could find the dub there. Which is really stupid, as I go to YouTube to find full episodes of some of the other series I watch (it’s the only place I can watch all of GetBackers, the original run of Beyblade, all of Class of the Titans, or Power Rangers). I’ll have to look to see if I can find a fully dubbed episode of Haikyuu!! there, just to see how bad it is. With me, if it’s so bad it’s good, I might actually end up loving it! Oh, what’s the newly airing anime you’re watching? Any good? By the sounds of it, it’s from a manga that you had enjoyed, so I hope the anime is living up to the manga and being a good adaptation. And I completely get what you mean by kind of knowing what’s coming and being excited to see it when it gets there. There are a couple manga where I’ve watched the seasons (like BNHA) and because I knew what was coming, I was extra hyped to keep watching. Exactly! I get really into stories and get intensely connected with characters, so there are definitely times when I have to take that pause to sit with what’s happening or what I’m feeling. Oh, I hard agree with you on Overhaul being kind of impossible to redeem and defend his actions. He’s still one of my favourites but it’s hard to defend him. And thank you – I’ll definitely share my thoughts when I get there, which should hopefully be soon. Like I said, I’m definitely in a reading mood, so I’m hoping to wrap up Black Clover, reread KNB, whip through Black Cat, and finish up BNHA in about a month. Haikyuu!! will be my next read after that, since it’s one I can’t just read all the way through without some breaks. Binging is what action series were made for, I think, haha! Though there are a couple ‘action’ series where I just plain out can’t binge them because god, they hit me hard in my emotions – like I mentioned through my first read of Haikyuu!!, that was one of them, but Promised Neverland, Mirai Nikki, and Kekkaishi are all ones that I just can’t binge because god, they get me in all different ways. Ohhh really? I love epilogue chapters and I hope that it wasn’t spoiled completely for you before you get to actually read it. And I’m glad I wasn’t just forgetting that you’d talked about his English VA. Where I watch only the English dubs, I’m looking forward to it for sure!!
Thank you! I’m looking forward to it. You’re welcome 😊 I think it’s impossible not to love the training camp arc!! Like, are there fans out there who really think it wasn’t good? I’m so conflicted on that because I didn’t find Hinata embarrassing at all during the arc! I thought he showed some amazing spirit and I loved how it showcased just how much determination he had, how it showed that despite it being really damn hard on a person to accept their limitations or to be told they’re just not good enough, we see him grapple with some of that and still push. I’m so glad though to hear that overall, it’s mostly people who do like it. I think Hinata is going to be, even after the manga, someone who constantly pushes himself to grow as a person. He’ll push himself not just in the sport but in anything else he sets his mind to and it’s amazing and such a lovely thing about him!! Oh, yes – I love whenever I get into my reading moods. They don’t hit as often as they used to (when I was a kid, it was nothing for me to whip through a book every day, sometimes a couple of them) but they make me happy when they do come and they’re at least somewhat common, even if the time to indulge in them isn’t. The only rare thing for me is for me to really get into the mood to sit and veg in front of the television and just watch shows, but I’m hoping one of those moods will hit soon too, just because I have some shows on that long list that I’d like to just sit and relax with but I know I wouldn’t enjoy doing as much right now. And I always have long to be read/to be watched list, but I’m also always on the lookout for new recommendations, so nobody should be shy sending those in! Aww, it’s so awesome to learn that we both really grew to love Oikawa to the levels we do because of his growth in the series. He was a strong personality straight out of the gate and he was entertaining, but I think without the work the author put in to show his reasons behind why his personality is the way it is and seeing him being humbled and growing…ugh, just so frigging gate. And yes, Kuroo had so many great moments. I love his teasing and his little smirk and it’s just fantastic. He’s probably my second-favourite Nekoma boy, right after Kenma. Okay, but having seen timeskips be so badly done in some other series I’ve read, I have to say that Haikyuu’s timeskip is amazing. It’s what really clinched it into becoming one of the best sports mangas I’ve read, where before it was just a good one to me. The timeskip stood on its own as a proper arc, it didn’t focus entirely on just one single character so we got to see a lot of the other background characters, there was still honest character growth. Just could rant about it so much. I adore it. It’s so cool that you have the physical volume for that and got to read the chapter. I’m sure I can find it somewhere online, but I haven’t gone searching for it yet. I really probably should, especially if it has great Bokuto and Kuroo interactions because I love those boy’s friendship.
I agree to that yay and I’m looking forward to them 😊 I honestly really enjoy the early seasons of the Haikyuu!! anime. The first season was particularly great for me, but I really do wonder if they changed companies/directors/producers or if the animation budget got chopped or something. It went from a pretty solid adaptation into something that got messier as it went along and I still really, REALLY disagree with the garbage dump being smooshed all into a movie. It was one of my all time favourite matches, it was something that was so incredibly hyped up within the series and which had real weight and I cannot see how it could be given the space, the importance, or the room to breathe packed into the short time span of a movie. I can’t bring myself to watch it all the way through because I can’t imagine making it to the end and being happy with the movie. I know it would just leave me disappointed and mildly angry. That’s so cool that that’s where Bokuto and your OC really start their relationship proper. That gives me proper impetuous to really watch VS. Failing Grades now 😊 You’re very welcome – it’s a great description! And he is indeed. I like that Yaku really was a pretty rounded character who wasn’t just one trope and that’s it. I’m glad it made sense and yeah, I’m a huge sucker for a well-done timeskip!
I’m glad it made you happy! I just say what I honestly think. And thank you for saying that. And I’m sorry but I think Ushijima just inspires that kind of reaction from most people, hahaha. In my head, Ushijima just provokes other people without even meaning do and I love it. Oikawa does really become a healthier person and I love that for him because he deserves that. He really, really does and seeing it made me happy for him. I would have loved to see more family members and moments for all the characters but that’s just because I’m a sucker for cute family moments and want them everywhere. It’s why I love cheesy things like Sweetness and Lightning. I’m sure you’ll go to some great places in the story and that you’ll get those moments that surprise even you! I can’t wait to hear about it as you continue on 😊 Thank you for that! I think it’s hard, if you’ve read the spin-offs and such from K, not to develop some sort of like towards Shouhei’s. He’s just such a joy. I’m also glad you approve of my love for Chuuya!
That’s so lovely to hear! That would make me really happy but don’t feel you need to force yourself. I will definitely say I heavily recommend it! The anime is short enough and if you really end up enjoying the anime, the manga is a quick and easy read. The chapters are nice and short (18-20 pages) and where it’s action packed, I was able to speed through the chapters. It took me about 2 days to finish all 169 chapters that were on my app and it only took so long because I had to work. I definitely predict that, if you do check it out, you’re going to end up being all in on Umemiya, Kaji, and I think Choji’s also going to hit you the right way where you’ll end up really liking him! And yessss, that smile. He just makes me so happy but then there’s only one character in that whole series that doesn’t make me happy in some way and even he’s someone fun to hate!
That’s so awesome, that you own the final three volumes of the manga. I wish I could afford more physical volumes of the manga I love and it’s something I hope I can do in my future 😊 I hope that you can find a good place to read those chapters online and that they’ll be good quality scans! I either forget that moment or didn’t really see it the first read through but now I’ll be on the lookout for it, that’s for sure, because it sounds hilarious. And it’s funny you mentioned it and then I got a request for Iwaizumi that was worded in that exact same way, haha! Love it. And thank you for saying that. I try to find love for all the characters whenever possible but sometimes, they just don’t hit me right on the first read-through. Oftentimes though, when I reread things (often do multiple rereads of things I love), I end up focusing on different characters and end up loving them, so I have hope that a couple of the secondary characters will really hit me this time. Yeah, I kind of found that a little sad. I do kind of wish we’d gotten to see a lot of all the different members of each of the teams, but I also understand that there just wasn’t enough time for that within the manga proper. It’s awesome that they get focus in some of the drama cd’s though, even though I don’t typically listen to them. I can’t understand what they’re saying at all, so I just don’t see the point, but when I can find the translations for drama cd’s, I do give those a read. I’ll have to check to see if I can find a good translation for that one! It does make sense and it was a fun read!! Thanks for sending it along and I’ll give you my thoughts eventually over there. You’re very welcome and thank you for saying that about my stories. It’s nice to know that other people might not see that bloat that I see. You’re doing amazing though, even if you feel you’ve still got so much to write! And sometimes, that’s the most exciting thing. I remember when I used to write massive longfics like the ones you write, kind of following the story, there were times when I’d look at all the material I hadn’t covered and just be so excited to throw myself into it all and see where it was all going 😊 And ooooh, now my curiosity is really piqued when it comes to who that someone important is! And what Sayuri is going to go to college/university for and where she decides to go, if anyone is going to be at the same college/university with her besides the obvious and I’m just excited! I love the proposal so much so I’m also super excited to read that scene proper because it’s going to be absolutely frigging adorable 😊 And I think all writers feel that way – they like most everything, but there are just those moments or chapters that they hold especially dear because they just turned out exactly how the writer wanted and the plot/ideas were adorable! I know there are some things I’ve written that overall I enjoy, but certain lines/paragraphs were just…oomph, wonderful in my head. Awww, that’s adorable and so sweet of Hinata! I know she’ll cherish those autographs too!
Now that I finished up Assassination Classroom, Korosensei is still my favourite but Karma is a close second. Though I’ve decided I’m not really going to write for it (I enjoy the manga but now that I’ve finished it, I will admit there are some characters that I plain out just really dislike and don’t ever want to write for and since I won’t write for series on here unless I’ll write for all the characters, it went off the list), I adore them and I’m glad I gave the series a try! I haven’t heard Korosensei’s voice in Japanese, but I did like his English sub voice – his voice was very expressive, with a lot of nuance and different little quirks and I applaud the voice actor.

Wheel of Time full series spoiler thoughts on TFOH Prologue-11
A probably semi-regular weekly bonus to my reread blog, since sometimes you realize things on reread that just make you need to yell in a full spoiler space.
I kind of love that we never got a proper answer on whether LTT's ramblings in Rand's head were all taint madness, or something else, or both.
Really fun to see Mat's memories taking shape, even though I don't like him as a character. Knowing that they're likely to be just those who bound themselves to the 'Finn. We still can't be 100% sure, because so little can be described as 100% sure in any of this series, and so many things that are known to be impossible get achieved in the course of the story. But, yeah. I don't know where I was going with this.
My little Ooh Ooh Girl, first favourite of my heart even if she's not the highest favourite anymore. Babygirl you get done so dirty by so much of the fandom ilu and your eagerness to learn and resolve to not put up with shit in equal measure.
Picture me snickering as I say "She might be the world's only hope." GAWD the journey.
I'll just be over here twiddling my thumbs uncomfortably at the reference to Myrelle and the knowledge of what's coming two books from now.
Love to see the weather shift and the long, looooong summer set up all the way back here at the beginning of book 5. And then forkroot, of course.
Do we ever learn who Ronde Macura's letter, and the pigeon guy's copy, go to? Neither the fandom.com wiki nor the Library of Tar Valon list answers, but surely there are hints somewhere as to who receives word of El and Nyn's last known location… I guess I have another thing to keep an eye out for.
I absolutely get why RJ's understanding of women and age is so skewed, but I will never get over the inherent contradictions of all the things he said about Aes Sedai and age. Siuan and Leane being reduced to "prime childbearing age" of 25 or so, but Samitsu, who is 144, offers without hesitation to bear Damer Flinn's child if he'll teach her how he Healed Rand's unhealing wound. Just. [collapses into a puddle of goo that no longer has to think about anything]
