Note
speaking of which, ash has a lot of trauma and feelings with grindel!graves for not realizing it wasnā€™t his uncle when itā€™s revealed. so, i can see ash having a feeling that somethingā€™s wrong, but grindel!graves would shoot him down and say ā€œyour minds still hungover ash,ā€ or something like that. ash would probably feel bad about dragging james into his self destructive tendencies too so doesnā€™t tell him that somethingā€™s up with his uncle
this is so interesting and cool
you should write like a whole drabble about this !!!
everyday I'm learning more about Ash
ugh i love this boy

I need to talk about this scene. Initially, I thought that Gellert just slipped up and blew his cover; he got caught up in what was happening that he forgot himself. You can almost sense it; the Aurors are thinking ā€˜wait, what?ā€™ Mind you, if this is the point where the MACUSA (and, for that matter, Newt) realised that something was not right, I have some serious questions about what exactly actual Percival Graves was like! It really does say a lot about Graves that the first time they realized that Graves probably wasn't Graves until that speech that basically overturns what they thought he believed on the Statute of Secrecy. Not to mention that sentencing Newt and Tina to that creepy as fuck death penalty didnā€™t raise any alarms at all!
But then, I thought about the context. If I recall rightly, this scene is directly after Credence has apparently been killed. Obviously, come the second film, we know thatā€™s not true, but as yet, no one else does. And I started to wonder - did Gellert actually slip up? Or did he intend to reveal himself? Had he just had enough and decided to tell ā€˜hisā€™ colleagues the truth?
I mean, if you listen to him speaking - initially, he doesnā€™t really sound just angry. Maybe a little bit, but to me, he sounds more sad and frustrated. Especially at the start with the line ā€˜Madam Presidentā€¦I ask all of you. Who does this law protect?ā€™ It might be his accent, but to me, he sounds like heā€™s on the verge of tears. His cause is something very important to him and he just witnessed what he thought was a murder of a boy who had a condition that was in no way his own fault. And that would strike a chord within him. Because heā€™s seen it before with Ariana Dumbledore. A young person suffering from a condition that was in no way her fault, but which kept her trapped and hidden away because of a law that would see her taken and locked away by a draconian Ministry, under the guise of keeping the wizarding community safe and secret.
And it frustrates and hurts Gellert. He doesnā€™t blow his cover here because he got sloppy. He effectively revealed himself, because heā€™s had enough of hiding. He wants these people to understand whatā€™s at stake. To see that the law they value so much is only hurting them and others like them. And why is it their obligation to hide? Theyā€™re not shameful. Theyā€™ve done nothing wrong. Are they really to be condemned to live in secret and fear because of something they canā€™t control and to protect people who lash out at what they donā€™t understand?
Yeah. Heā€™s not really angry, or not just angry. Heā€™s just done. Done with all of this bullshit. He knows the damage the statute can do. It denied Percival Dumbledore the right to tell his side of the story (out of fear for his daughter) and ripped him away from the family who needed him. It destroyed Albusā€™ chance for a future. It also ultimately cost Kendra and Ariana their lives.
And even if he hasnā€™t initially given away enough to tell everyone who he is, heā€™s told enough to make it clear which side heā€™s on. Heā€™s not stupid. He had to know that some people there may have suspected who he was, or at the very least a follower of Gellertā€™s, and he just turns his back on them after that speech that basically confirms which side of this conflict he's on, if nothing else. And he just turns his back and walks away (in disgust), like it's no big thing. Like there aren't AT LEAST 30 Aurors and President Picquery at his back, and also Newt Scamander and his trunk full of creatures (and Dumbledore's man). That is one hell of a bold power move. Heā€™s saying ā€˜I know what Iā€™m revealing to you here and I donā€™t give a shit what you think. Iā€™m done hiding away. Iā€™m not going to tolerate this law that condemns and harms us. Iā€™m going to fight it with everything I have. If you want to attack me and fight me, thatā€™s fine. Iā€™m up for it. Iā€™m not giving up. Do your worst.ā€™
Also, if you watch the fight, itā€™s pretty typical of what we know of Gellert in a fight. Heā€™s got virtually the entire MACUSA ready to take him down (and he also does not look remotely worried by this, rather heā€™s thinking ā€˜okay, fair enough. Do your worstā€™) but, when theyā€™re firing at him, it looks as though he never casts a single attacking spell. He only appears to be using shielding charms. Damn powerful ones, yes, but shield charms nonetheless. And thatā€™s very similar to what we see and hear of how he fights. He never attacks first. The threeway duel? Aberforth drew his wand first. The fight at the rally? The Auror attacked first, killing the red-haired witch. And here - he knows the Aurors intend to take him down. In such a situation, you have the right to protect yourself - which he does, with the shield charm. But, again, he doesnā€™t appear to attack them.
And yet, with only shielding charms, he more than holds his own until Newt sends out the bird. That is INCREDIBLY impressive in and of itself. But itā€™s even more impressive because of one small detail.
The wand heā€™s using is not the Elder Wand. Itā€™s (I assume) Percival Gravesā€™ wand. Which means Gellert is doing all this badassery with a wand that is not actually his own, either simply because it didnā€™t choose him in the first place (which it obviously didnā€™t), or because, not only did it not choose him, but he also didnā€™t win it/become that wandā€™s Master. We donā€™t know what happened between him and Graves (though Iā€™ve seen somewhere that JKR has confirmed Graves is still aliveā€¦canā€™t for the life of me remember where though!), but damnā€¦thatā€™s really impressive.
(Side note, but itā€™s really interesting to note that, if Gellert did leave Graves alive, itā€™s not the first time heā€™s left someone alive when someone else might have killed them. He did the same with Gregorovitch when he stole the Elder Wand. He got the wand, but left Gregorovitch alive. Iā€™ve wondered about that before, since surely the last thing he should do is leave any sort of trail, especially when looking for a powerful artefact like the Elder Wand. And leaving Gregorovitch alive does, ultimately, come back to bite him in the arse when Voldy comes calling. Itā€™s possible that he simply does not take pleasure in killing, and really only does it in self-defence, which says quite a bit about him, in all honestyā€¦)
But this final point about the wand(s) leads to another issue. If Gellert is master of the elder wand and does all that impressive shit with Gravesā€™ wand that isnā€™t hisā€¦how does he lose to Albus?? Heā€™s shaping up to be immensely powerful, intelligent and magically gifted (and also, in terms of his ideas and motives, ABSOLUTELY RIGHT) and yetā€¦Albus beats him? Iā€™m not saying Albus isnā€™t powerful as fuck and a damn good duellist (he certainly is), but I feel like Gellert is more than a match for him - and they both know it. And yetā€¦Albus wins the duel, and the Elder Wand. It seems suspicious to me. As thoughā€¦actually, yes. Iā€™m going to say it. Iā€™m now 1000% convinced that Gellert might not have outright surrendered, but he was absolutely holding back against Albus and, in the end, for reasons currently unknown, he threw the duel.

Credence: That's what Grindelwald said too.
Graves: Do I look like grindel?

a continuation of this, as requested by @webgottrash (because it wouldnā€™t let me tag your other handle for some reason)
on the presidentā€™s orders, the obscurus--credence, newt reminds himself, his name was credence--is destroyed. thereā€™s anguish on tinaā€™s face, and newtā€™s heart knots his twisting stomach. percival, however...
...percival is furious.
newtā€™s seen that silent storm before: the set of his brow, the thin line of his lips, the faint twitch in the muscle of his jaw. it was after theseus learned how newt chose to spend their last night in america, that night he went to percivalā€™s room instead of his own.Ā
he hadnā€™t introduced them for percival to fuck his baby brother, is what theseus said. had he known this to be the result, theseus continued, heā€™d never have invited percival to meet his family.
as hurtful as those words were, it wasnā€™t what pushed percival into his quiet rage. no, what sparked that fire was when theseus turned on newt. in his anger, he called newt a harlot, easy, foolish; now, theseus claimed, heā€™d have to carry the shame of newtā€™s actions to spare their parents. and oh, god, what would their father say?
before theseus could continue, percivalā€™s violent, silent magic launched theseus across the room and into the far wall. pictures fell, glass shattered. and as powerful a wizard as theseus was, he hadnā€™t mastered wordless magic as percival had.
ā€œsay what you want about me,ā€ percival warned.Ā ā€œbut do not disrespect your own flesh and blood. newt is your brother, and if anything were to shame your parents, it would be your treatment of him in this moment.ā€
theseus stormed off after percival released him. and once theseus was gone, percival kissed newt like the world was ending, soft apologies whispered between gentle brushes of damp lips.
and now that anger, that rage, that power focuses on the american wizarding president and a team of aurors. he faces down at least a dozen glowing wands, and itā€™s only tinaā€™s hand on his arm that keeps him with her amongst the rubble. he wants to help percival, to stop this utter madness from continuing any further, but as his brother had always said, newt is foolish. the president already resents him, and percival, for whatever reason, has forgotten him.
the aurors fall one by one beneath percivalā€™s whip-crack magic, and the president seems unafraid. foolish, newt thinks, because though he is not on the receiving end of percivalā€™s fury, he had been on the receiving end of percivalā€™s indifference, when he and tina had been sentenced to death without a trial.Ā
still, he cannot stand by while the american wizarding president is under attack. even if it is percival graves doing the attacking. for better or worse, the man betraying his country is not newtā€™s percival. tina tugs him weakly when he stands, but sheā€™s easy enough to brush aside and doesnā€™t attempt to hinder him a second time.
from within his coat, he launches the swooping evil, itā€™s sticky venom enough to bind percivalā€™s hands behind his back and bring him to heel. a murmured spell from a dispassionate, powerful woman, and percival isnā€™t percival at all.
there is no relief to be felt when grindelwald is revealed. dread is what crushes newtā€™s ribs to lance his lungs, his breath drawn short. tina puts a hand at the small of his back as if to comfort him; she thinks itā€™s shock.
but all newt can think is, whereā€™s percival?

So, I was thinking. Yes, after half of year, I finally was thinking. You remember the interrogation scene, right? How Grindel!Graves graciously shoves the bubble with the obscurus in Newtā€™s face? Of course you do. And now, I want you to think. Who inspected Newtā€™s suitcase? Did the aurors do this? Or Grindel!Graves did it by himself? And if he did that, then letā€™s cheer, guys, Grindel!Graves was in Newtā€™s suitcase. Grindel!Graves survived being in Newtā€™s suitcase. And it makes me go all like HOW?????
Newt has numerous dangerous beasts there, a goddamned nundu for fuckā€™s sake! A thunderbird who doesnā€™t like strangers, some other beasts that are unfriendly with strangers and could kill, damn.
The thing is that all of them were actually okay after the visit of the darkest wizard? And I couldnā€™t help but wonder how that happened?
But every thought of mine has this turn it takes without me wanting it. Yes, itā€™s the path of crack.
Imagine
Grindel!Graves stumbling on the ladder and landing on his ass
Grindel!Graves running through the habitats from one or another beast who found him very interesting and edible
Grindel!Graves shooing away some annoying beast who wants to nestle on his shoulders, neck or head
Grindel!Graves freaking out at the sight of some beasts
Grindel!Graves tiptoeing and hiding behind trees, rocks or bushes, searching for fuck knows what
Grindel!Graves simply trying to survive this madness and go back to his office in one piece, both physically and mentally, because what the heck Scamander, thatā€™s a fucking nundu, dude
Grindel!Graves climbing fast back and trying to close the cursed suitcase by sitting on it, or jumping
He wipes his sweaty forehead, a dumb smile on his lips
FINALLY, he thinks triumphantly
but then remembers and his face drops
the obscurus is still in the case

So this is kinda interesting, I didn't notice it until @bloodtroth kept bringing it up but him throwing a car without using a wand actually points to something. At this point in the movie we grew to accept that Grindel!Graves can move things around with his hands alone so this doesn't surprise anyone. However during the entire movie we only saw him use it for very small things like Newt's suitcase.
A lot of people assume that the way Grindel!Graves behaves the entire movie around his coworkers should be at least very similar to how the real Graves would have behaved like because no one suspects him despite the fact he seemingly is close to Picquery. And this is reasonable to assume that the real Graves should have the same magical abilities that Grindel!Graves is displaying and that at least around Picquery he had to act convincingly(tho in the movie it boiled down to him being matter of fact or silent when he's at Graves' work), but that doesn't include every action Colin Farrell acted in this movie.
The Graves we see is still really Grindelwald all along, and the real Graves definitely wouldn't try to execute Newt and Tina or manipulate Credence like that, we have no reason to believe he would have behaved like that, this is clearly just Gellert being Gellert. So just like when it comes to those behaviors, it's interesting to notice how once Grindelwald doesn't care about his cover anymore, he suddenly goes from moving around suitcases to throwing cars.

Broken souls ch11 preview
Sven inquired, "You alright in there, Newt?"
Newt grunted as he pulled out gauze to stop the bleeding, "I'm fine, Sven."
His blood swiftly soaked into the gauze. Even grabbing more and applying pressure wasnt stopping the bleeding.
Tearing through another pack of gauze he tried to stem the flow. Unbeknownst to him Sven had not left. Instead he opened the door and let out gasp.
Warm hands moved his away from the wound in his side. Sven questioned angrily, "What the hell were you doing that you tore your stitches? You should have told me immediately. Let me see."
Sven was kneeling so he could get a better look at the wound. Gentle hands pulled away the soaked gauze.
"Well it isn't infected at least," sighed the older man.
Newt asked meeting the man's green eye, "Why do you care? Why do either of you care? You both saw what I am capable of. The world would be better off if you had just let me die!"
The pressure on his wound became painful with his shout. Newt had to bite his lip to prevent himself from crying out.

Grindy New York case
So thereā€™s been news floating that Grindelwald was in New York only for several days. To be exact, he arrived to NY around the same time Newt did. This means few things, as a lot of people has already pointed out, such as the fact that Graves must have known Credence before whole Grindelwald shit happened, that actually Grindelfuck spent very little time with Credence (Iā€™m really not the first one who noticed, as,fast as I find post about this Iā€™ll drop a link to them, to properly give credit to those, who inspired me to writing this). Yes, in that case all this is true. Butā€¦ I just canā€™t help this terrifying feeling, that it makes Graves survival chances even lower than ever. Itā€™s something Iā€™ve been really thinking about a lot. I liked to think of Grindelwald as of a this kind of sick bastard, who loves to play with his food before he eats it. Which means, if he impersonated Graves for a long period of time, he very likely would keep real Graves alive, as his toy. To torture him, torment him. Abd that is kind of heartbreaking thought, but at least it gave me some reassurance that Graves at the end might survive all this crap. But right now? If Grindelwald was in such hurry, he didnā€™t have time for playing around. Didnā€™t have time for toys. He didnā€™t care for a long-term consequences. He didnā€™t have time to take care of hiding place for his toy or to make sure Graves wouldnā€™t escape. And probably killed him on the spot. Easier to take care of the body, which canā€™t run away or attack you than living breathing human being. Or Grindelwald really is fucked up bastard and sadist above all (sorry, kind of my own headcanon, might be very far from actual character) and even having only a couple of days he decided to have some fun in between his evil plan. And that would mean Graves is aliveā€¦ My head is spinning, I donā€™t know what should I think anymoreā€¦ Oh, wait, I knowā€¦ I SHOULD BE STUDYING!!!

Tina Goldstein and her relationship crumbs on SoD (spoiler!)
Despite her limited screentime, there's still some relationship progress/paralell/crumbs with Tina's most important people: Queenie, Credence, Newt
1. Queenie and Tina = Queenie and Kama
When Queenie reads Kama's memory, her expression looks really sad when she mention about "sister's memory" and GG took that memory from Kama
Tumblr media
Can't help but wonder if Queenie looks really sad just because reading Kama's memory, or is it also because it remind her with her sister?? ;n;
Tumblr media
Later in gala dinner scene, Kama took Queenie's hand to bring her go, leaving Jacob
Tumblr media
It's paralell with (deleted shot) of Tina took Queenie's hand during Jacob's farewell
Tumblr media
Should i mention the BGM when Kama's took Queenie's hand is Queenie's theme during Jacob's farewell too? ;n;
And both Kama and Tina are older siblings ;w;
(Edited) Bonus:
Tina is the one who met Kama first in CoG. Kinda wondering if they build some kind of friendship later. And then Tina ask Kama to looking out for Queenie
Tumblr media Tumblr media
***
2. Tina and Credence
In FB1, Tina was stand up for Credence and telling him about GG (Grindel!Graves):
"He's using you"
Tumblr media
Now in FB3, Credence can stand up by himself, and telling others about GG:
"He's lying to you"
Tumblr media
Love how Credence now grow up and can stand up for himself (and probably kinda learnt that from Tina) (even tho Tina can't reach him anymore)
Tumblr media
(And Tina must be saw that from afar at MACUSA HQ)

3. Newt and Tina

What's the scene in which Harry realises something was going on and comforts Dumbledore? I reread the seventh book last year but haven't read the others in a while and I don't remember that. Thank you, I'm curious.
When Harry is dead for a moment there. Dumbledore talks about Grindelwald not telling Voldemort that he had the wand - which Grindel knew obviously, because he lost it to him - and Voldemort killing him for his lack of helpfulness. Harry says Grindelwald was doing that to protect Dumbles' grave, and Dumbles says "Maybe" and cries. (All from memory). That was Harry getting it. He had all the information, Ritas hints, Bathilda's story in itself and so on and then it came together. He was shown to understand what Dumble needed to hear and why. He didn't have to make that remark. It shows Harry is no longer a child. Getting Snape and getting Dumbledore is what made him grow up and grow wise. Hence why the book had to have lil Albus Severus Potter in the end to round it up.

Was rewatching FB1 today and noticed a certain continuity in style between Graves!Grindelwald and FB3!Grindelwald - the scarf! It's a different color, but very similar style. Just thought it was a neat tidbit to share
True! Now that you mention it I remeber Grindel!Graves wearing it in the exact same way, hanging down his shoulders.

The Adventures of Percival the Red Panda
This is for an admired author that I follow, @funkzpiel. I know that others have answered your wish already, but the more the merrier right? It's a bit late to the game too, but eh. I hope someone can enjoy it at least. But here a scene as to how Percival might have got there: ā€¢ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”~~~~~~~~~~ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€¢ The night was dark. The snowy grounds created a clearer vision of the Central Park Menagerie than it would otherwise be with just the moon and stars. There was a loud pop, disturbing the ambience of chittering animals. A man wearing a dark trench coatā€”or at least, what seemed to be oneā€”had suddenly appeared holding a cage the size of a small suitcase, and he continued walking as if he had been taking a stroll through the park the entire time. The animal inside the cage was indistinguishable beyond its tiny black paws that gripped one of the bars tightly. The man stopped at an enclosure with five sleeping deer inside and an antlered buck. A small raccoon could also be seen scurrying around inside the glorified cage, climbing onto one of the bare trees when noticing the intruder. He flicked his wrist out, and a sleek black wand shot into the man's grip. Setting the small cage onto the snowy floor, the animal could now be clearly seen; it appeared to be similar to the raccoon, but reddish brown with a very thick ringed tail. The animal became even more distinct as the man used his wand to open the cage and float the auburn creature in front of him. It made growling noises as it tried to grip onto the man, most likely to slash his eyes out from the way it swiped at his face viciously. The man looked at the teddy bear sized creature indulgently. "Poor little Percy," the man crooned. There was a wicked gleam in his dark eyes, and the smile on his face seemed almost unnaturally wide. The man leaned closer to the animal hovering in mid-air in front of him to the point where the swiping claws just barely touched his face. "Do you want to see your pretty little face scratched up that badly? I never took you for a masochist, dear Percy," the man gazed into the desperate eyes of the animal as it growled loudly in frustration. The meager attempt to cause harm upon his person seemed to make the man incredibly amused, especially when considering the fluffy visage of the one attempting it. "Don't worry, dearie. I won't leave you here forever. You understand why I must do this.ā€ An answering bark disagreed with him, along with an intensified attempt to maul him. The man frowned. ā€œDonā€™t be like that, Percival.ā€ But it seemed like the contradiction ruined his playful mood. The man sighed and flicked his wand hand sharply. To the naked eye, it appeared as if Percival was blasted by an invisible force. The creature was thrown pass the barrier of the large cage as if it were intangible. Percival landed on a snow mound and sank within the small white dune. His snow covered head quickly popped up from the mound, and he struggled to escape from it. The man watched his failed attempts, but quickly grew bored. ā€œSince you seem to have your paws full, I shall now take my leave. Zum GrƶĪ²eren Nutzen, Percival Graves.ā€ The man turned sharply where he stood, and disappeared with a crack. Percival, after finally escaping from the heap, ran as he were a human on his two back paws and grappled at the bars of his new prison. The gaps were too small for him to even have hopes of squeezing between the bars. He threw his little arms out in frustration, but fell onto the snowy ground as he no longer had a support. The winking stars from above seemed to be mocking his predicament. All Percival could think was, ā€œThat goddamn bastard. He definitely won't get away with this!ā€

the second salem boy is the obscurus, and newt knows how to calm the maelstrom without further damaging the city. all he needs is to get close enough. and tina helps him do it.
they find credence in the subway tunnel, pale and shaking and so very scared. and while heā€™d only ever encountered one other like him, this young man has such wide, hopeful eyes despite the red abrasions on his cheeks and the tremors coursing through him.
but percival yanks credence away again and again, advances on newt ruthlessly with that effortless stalk and whip-fast wand work. not that it would matter. percival has always been quite the master of wandless and wordless magic. the wide arcs of his magic and the controlled swings of his arm seem merely a courtesy. percival could have killed him countless times.
credence is responding to newtā€™s voice over the magical explosions. heā€™s responding to tinaā€™s, too. and as long as they can keep the obscurial from seizing control of the young man, hope remains.
every impact of percivalā€™s magic against newtā€™s thunders through his body, forces him to his knees. even now, with the quiet fury in his dark eyes, there is no recognition for newt, only impatience. and despite his dire situation, the ache in his shoulder as he blocks percivalā€™s attacks again and again, newt canā€™t help but wonder why theyā€™re fighting in the first place.Ā
the holidays where percival visited their home in england, the ritual it became. despite being theseusā€™ friend and brother-in-arms from the war, newt still managed to cultivate his own relationship with percival. they even exchanged letters when heā€™d return to america.Ā
and that one night...
that one night near new years when theseus and newt decided to visit percival in new york. they sat quietly together on the roof of percivalā€™s flat building, legs dangling over the edge of the barrier wall. they shared a flask of whiskey, and between one heartbeat and the next, percival had taken him by the jaw and pressed their lips together in a toe-curling kiss. the tingling sensation in his lips reminded him of venom side effects and the sudden tightness in his chest had him question the contents of the flask.
one kiss turned into two, then three, and when the chill of the air bit through the wool of his coat, newt took percivalā€™s offered hand and returned to the flat. instead of returning to his guest room, he followed percival into the master. they didnā€™t fall asleep until near dawn, and the following morning, newt and theseus caught the afternoon steamer back home.
newt collapses to his knees beneath percivalā€™s onslaught in the tunnel, gravel digging into his flesh through the material of his trousers. he sways where he kneels, at percivalā€™s mercy where the other man stands on the platform. percival is winded, but newt is exhausted.
ā€œwhy donā€™t you remember me?ā€ newt asks quietly.
and something like surprise brings the faintest tick to percivalā€™s thick brows. before he can respond, however, credenceā€™s anger has crested and shadow swirls violently deeper in the tunnel.
tina screams and percival aparates.Ā
newt pushes himself to his feet and runs into the chaos.

Something aboutĀ ā€˜Shalottā€™ by Emilie Autumn makes me think of our dear boys. Makes me want to write a fic.
A lot of songs by her would be really good Grindel!Graves inspiration tbh (at least for sure from her Opheliac album)
