Jessica Cruz: Defender of the Universe by Jade Gretz

Jessica Cruz, bathed in the ethereal glow of a dying lantern, found herself staring into the abyss. Not a literal abyss, mind you, but a swirling vortex of obsidian shadows that pulsed with a malevolent energy that sent shivers down her spine.

"Okay," she muttered, her voice barely audible over the howling wind that seemed to emanate from the vortex itself. "This wasn't part of the Green Lantern training manual."

It all started with a distress call. A faint flicker on her power ring, a desperate plea for help from a system on the periphery of Green Lantern jurisdiction. Intrigued, Jessica, ever the eager rookie, had answered the call, arriving at a desolate, crimson-hued moon orbiting a gas giant.

The moon itself was a wasteland of jagged rock formations and swirling dust devils. Upon landing, Jessica found a desolate outpost, its remaining inhabitants huddled within, their faces etched with terror. Their stories, delivered in a cacophony of panicked whispers, spoke of a tear in the fabric of reality, a gateway to a dimension where fear manifested in monstrous forms.

Their fear, however, wasn't the only thing that resonated with Jessica's power ring. It pulsed with a chaotic energy, a chilling confirmation of the dimension's reality. Now, standing before the pulsating vortex, a knot of apprehension tightened in her stomach.

"Alright, Jess," she said, more to herself than anyone else, "time to face your fears." With a deep breath, she willed her power ring to create a sturdy green construct – a bridge stretching from the jagged rock beneath her feet to the swirling vortex.

The bridge materialized instantly, a beacon of emerald green against the desolate landscape. But as Jessica stepped onto it, the shadows seemed to writhe and contort, tendrils of darkness reaching out to grasp at her legs.

With a grimace, Jessica pushed forward. Jessica Cruz: Bravery Beyond the Green Light by Jade Gretz

The Iron Shadows:

The void of space stretched infinitely in every direction, a silent, unforgiving abyss. Jessica Cruz floated in the darkness, her emerald aura the only light for miles around. Her Green Lantern ring hummed softly as it enveloped her in its protective energy, keeping the vacuum of space at bay. But tonight, the familiar hum of her ring did little to calm her racing heart. She was alone, light-years from Earth, on a mission that felt more like a descent into madness.

Before her loomed the massive bulk of the Dreadnought, an abandoned space station drifting on the fringes of the galaxy. Its cold, metal surface was pockmarked with the scars of countless battles, its once-proud structure now a derelict husk of what it had once been. The station’s vast size was enough to inspire awe, but the darkness that clung to it like a shroud sent a chill down Jessica’s spine.

Her orders had been clear: investigate the sudden reactivation of the Dreadnought and determine the source of the strange energy readings emanating from within. It should have been a routine mission, but Jessica had learned long ago that nothing was ever routine in space.

The station had been abandoned for decades, ever since the last crew had been mysteriously lost. Some said it was cursed, that the souls of those who had perished aboard still haunted its empty corridors. Jessica didn’t believe in ghosts, but she couldn’t shake the feeling that something was terribly wrong here.

Taking a deep breath, she steeled herself and began her approach. The docking bay yawned open like the mouth of a beast, and as she drifted inside, she felt the temperature drop even further. The air was thick with the scent of decay and rust, and the walls seemed to close in on her as she moved deeper into the station.

The first sign of trouble came as she passed through the airlock. The station’s lights flickered to life, casting long shadows that danced across the walls. Jessica’s ring pulsed with energy, sensing the danger before she did.
