Acadian Day of Remembrance
Members of the Acadian community, dozens of school children and local officials are gathering to mark Acadian Remembrance Day at Skmaqn–Port-la-Joye–Fort Amherst National Historic site.
December 13 has a special meaning for P.E.I.'s Acadian Community. On that day in 1758 a ship carrying Acadians being deported to France sank and 350 people died.
It was the greatest loss of Acadian life in a single day, says Georges Arsenault, an Acadian historian.
"It is to recognize the difficult years that the Acadians had and of course resilience because we are still here, we've been on the Island for over 300 years and French is still a language which is alive, that has been spoken on the Island for 300 years," he said.
One third of P.E.I.'s French population died as a result of deportations in 1758, which included two more ships sinking just days apart with Acadians from the Island aboard, Arsenault said.
"Just in those three days there's about 900 Acadians from the Island that died," he said.
Over 1,000 Acadians managed to avoid deportation, with some families remaining on P.E.I., Arsenault said.
"Those who were deported to France, those who survived finally settled there, some of them, but many left in 1785 to Louisiana. So that is why there is such a close tie between Louisiana and Prince Edward Island," Arsenault said, adding he spoke with an Acadian from Louisiana a few years ago and helped them track their roots to the Island.
P.E.I. Minister Responsible for Acadian and Francophone Affairs Gilles Arsenault issued a release on Acadian Remembrance Day.
"Acadian Remembrance Day is an opportunity for us to remember and commemorate the lost lives of Acadians. Through their perseverance, some returned home and survived other hardships. This dark history shows the strength and resilience of Acadians. We are proud of the Acadian heritage and culture," the release read.
"The Acadian and Francophone community brings diversity to the Island through their traditions, music and language. We will continue to support and work with them."
Members of the Acadian community are gathering Wednesday at Skmaqn–Port-la-Joye–Fort Amherst National Historic site to remember lives lost during the Acadian deportation. The event will include music, a silent walk, readings and highlight the resilience of the Acadian community, Arsenault said.

Day 47– The Lightning Temple
That giant unearthed mausoleum is rife with treasure! And horrors. Mostly horrors.
History is a wheel that spins slightly different each round.
(This totk rewrite au is called Familiar Familiar! It all starts when Zelda doesn’t get sent back in time and the butterfly effect devolved from there.)

Just been thinking (again) about Charley being called an ‘Edwardian Adventuress’ and how much it annoys me (yes, I know they fudged an explanation in a later audio that I haven’t heard; it still bugs me).
I’m glad India didn’t go and hire a ‘nice Edwardian outfit’ for the live show as putting Charley in that sort of costume would have looked ridiculous given the massive change in fashion after the death of Edward VII in 1910 (the end of the Edwardian era) and the First World War that followed four years later. Though I’m sure a lot of older women like Lady Louisa would have taken a while to adapt to the new styles and doubtless disapproved of rising hemlines and flapper dresses, Charley was born in 1912 so has grown up during that era of change and I have no doubt that she would embrace such fashions with gusto. I mean, just look:
Here we have some Edwardian dresses, the kind of thing that would have been worn by Charley’s mother before Charley was born and were two decades out of date by the time she stowed away on the R101:

1910s, as thing start to change more:

1920s fashions, when Charley would have entered her teens:

And finally the early 1930s, around the time she left in the TARDIS:

As you can see, there’s a huge difference! India could have quite easily found an appropriate costume that didn’t rustle if not for that erroneous ‘Edwardian’ tag.

I'm listening to The Suffering Game Ch. 7 (ep. 57 of TAZ Balance) and thinking about Magnus, in mannequin form, regaining his memories. Specifically when he remembers going to hide the Temporal Chalice Griffin saying, "You've made something, and you're terrified of it."
There's something incredibly evocative about that to me, and also so scary to think about.
There's something you only half remember but two things you're sure about: 1. It is a horrible thing that has been created and 2. It is entirely your fault

Visiting the well in Kakariko in ToTK and the music is really cool? The normal music of Kakariko gets quieter and the drums in the background get a little louder so what you get is a really quiet drum beat which is REALLY FUCKING COOL? (forgive me for using cool to describe it twice) Give me a minute and I'll yap more because I have THOUGHTS

While we mainly follow Arno's personal conflicts, driven by cynicism brought on by grief over his personal relationships, I think a lot about how he viewed larger French society and the time he was living through.
There's a brief moment where, at the beginning of the revolution, he says something to the effect of, "The people want to be free!" and that's the most explicit indication of how he felt about the Revolution's role in fighting classism. It suggests that he supported the idea of the French people rising up for their rights.
He himself was raised by a nobleman, albeit in a role where he was perhaps a well-treated servant. He personally has a spat with Olivier, the head...servant? Groomsman? Whom he had to answer to.
When he kills King of Thieves, he sees for himself through his memories that François De La Serre -- despite having been a good man who became his surrogate father without a moment's hesitation -- was a pompous aristocrat himself, immediately dismissing the King of Thieves and his "affairs of rats."
Arno strikes me as an intelligent man -- emotionally, intellectually, and strategically -- underneath his shitty, shitty coping mechanisms. Like, this is the kind of person who understands why he's self-destructing and how to stop it, but spirals anyway.
So I wonder what was going through his mind when he saw for himself that François De La Serre, while having great ideals that were struck down by evil men, was in some ways someone whose own arrogance brought him down? I wonder if it was a hard lesson where he had to learn that someone who was good to him was part of the problem in his society, where the working class was underrepresented in politics and dispossessed of basic human needs?
If he hadn't been wrapped up in the Assassin-Templar conflict, would Arno have been a Revolutionary himself? Or at least a supporter?
At what point in the Revolution did he become disillusioned with it? At the start of the Reign of Terror? When the populace started scapegoating other commoners?
We mainly follow Arno's interpersonal relationships, but I think a lot of his cynicism is driven by ideology and massive historical events happening around him. We're all affected by our surroundings, even if we don't consciously feel it. He went from a young, rule-breaking man to someone who was supportive -- even optimistic -- about a revolution that could change his society, only for it to devolve into carnage and just create another system where innocent people have to suffer due to the opinions of a few influential ones.
Also, he owns a cafe where people regularly gather to talk revolution and watch plays made for social commentary. You can't tell me he isn't swayed by what he sees.

considering how "heavy sleepers" (wink wink) kaz and jun are, i bet if both were around to raise jin, they wouldve enacted that "Your son is awake"/"before sunrise, hes your son" scene from the lion king
@scalproie omg yes I love that scene so much and smol Jin totally would be having those Simba-levels of energy haha. 100% cosigned!!
I really do think that given the chance to raise Jin together they would've been a very 'normal' couple despite both being such extraordinary people, and can definitely envision little moments like this. Something about how their energies mesh just feels like they would have a low-drama relationship, perfectly content to be in their own little bubble with each other. Maybe it's the introvert vibes they both give off, or how heavily they complement each other in ways that nobody else could match and that speak to the potential of deep mutual understanding.
