Day 49– Riju’s Guestroom

(Ambassador Rauru never meant to get attached to the twin chieftains. The one that becomes the Demon King accuses him of forgetting his own history— the other, concerned with her people’s safety, bitterly capitulates to Hyrule’s demands.

Perhaps a kinder peace could have been achieved, if only Rauru chased after Ganondorf like Naborus on that fateful day. It didn’t matter, in the end. Time has ground every decision into indistinguishable dust, until all that’s left is echoes and ghosts.)

So the fact that Christianity exists in Legend of Zelda is endlessly interesting to me. Obviously, it's very different than our version that exists in real life but like... it's just really fun to play with.

Anyways here's my thoughts:

The Ocarina of Time Sages (Zelda, Impa, Ruto, Rauru, Naboru, Saria, Darunia) are saints

So I feel like this doesn't need a ton of explaining. In-universe, the towns in LoZ are named after the Sages so obviously they're pretty important. It doesn't really make sense to me why they wouldn't be canonized. Especially since they all have some sort of powers or holiness anyways due to being Sages.

But Who is Jesus

This one is a little less clear. Since I'm worldbuilding Legend's Hyrule right now (and I love the idea that Legend is Christian) and they kind of really hate the Hero of Time since he failed and all, it can't be Time. I feel like Sky and Sun are a little too intrinsically connected to Hylia and everything. And since Christianity believes in God and not Hylia I doubt they'd make Sky or Sun Jesus (they probably in some way still incorporate Hylia . Most likely, they have a saint based off her or she's an angel. Sky and Sun would likely become saints as well under that logic). So I have a few options:

Option One: process of elimination leaves the hero between Sky and Time as a possible candidate. That would be Four. I like the idea of the whole Christianity thing existing before the timeline split but, like in real life, it didn't get very popular for a few centuries. In the other timelines, it would have fizzled out. But because of Time's defeat, Christianity just gets more popular in the Downfall Timeline. I'm not sure what the exact story surrounding Four would be. I want it to somewhat mirror real-life Christian beliefs, after all. At the same time, I'm kind of on the fence about making the Jesus-figure one of the heroes.

Option Two: Mido is Jesus. There's this theory I saw about Mido becoming a hero after Time's defeat and helping during the Imprisoning War, which is why he gets a town named after him in LoZ. I just think it would be cool. Again, I'm not sure what his story would be yet but at least his is a lot more flexible to work with.

I'm curious about what everyone else things, though? I'm really torn between "Four is Jesus" and "Mido is Jesus." On one hand, Four would be funny, but Mido sort of make sense.

I like that Navi gives you different hints on some of the ssme enemies. Makes it worth checking them.

Navi's dialogue with a regular Iron Knuckle.

Translation:

Navi: An Iron Knuckle! Be careful of that heavy axe! Attack when he let's his guard down!

And her dialogue when you get to the fight against Naboru in the suit.

Translation:

Navi: That is an Iron Knuckle! Wait... Something isn't right... That's no ordinary enemy!

I don't have much to say about this translation. The only thing I can add is that the direct translation of the Iron Knuckle's German name, "Eisenprinz", translates to "Iron Prince".

Which sounds cooler in my opinion.

The Last Story of The Hero of Time

Chapter 3 Part 3

Only a few hours later, the Falcon arrived in the Gerudo Desert. Naboru saw it and reached out her arm for it to land on it. She saw that there was a small scroll attached to its leg. She untied the piece of paper to read it and gave the Falcon a piece of meat. Naboru placed it on a bird perch so it could fly back with the answer. She read the letter and then went to Ganondorf and said, "Your Majesty, a letter has come from the Wolf Clan. They wish to speak with you." Ganondorf turned around and asked, "Why do they wish to speak with me?" Naboru looked at the letter again and read it. "My son believes that you are responsible for the last attack on my clan because he saw you there. I would like to make this clear and hereby invite you us come , Duncan." Ganondorf replied with a grin. "Answer that we will come in 3 days and that his son is also welcome to participate in the conversation.” And so Naboru went back to Falcon and sent him away.

At the same time, Link was looking for a good place to camp so he could reach Goronia the next day. Then, at a small stream between Kakariko and Death Mountain, he got off Epona and took off her saddle so she could graze in peace. Then he laid stones in a circle, then put dry wood in the circle and lit it with the help of a flint. He sat by the fire with a piece of dry meat and, looking at the fire, he enjoyed being far away from the hustle and bustle of the castle. Epona lay down behind him and nudged Link with her head as if to say, "You need to rest, I'll take care of you." Link stroked her face. "I know what you want to tell me, you need it more than I do, after all, you've been carrying me the whole time." After Link said that, Epona turned her head away and fell asleep. When Link realized that, he looked up at the sky, at the stars and wondered how much more suffering he would have to endure. In the last battle he almost lost a good friend and now all signs point to a war. Link took his sword and put it on his lap so that he had it within reach. While he was thinking, he leaned against Epona who was sleeping peacefully. He didn't notice that his eyes were also slowly closing.

In the morning, when the first rays of sunlight fell on Link's face, he slowly woke up. Epona was already awake and licked his face. "It's OK, I'm awake, you probably can't wait until we move on, can you?" Epona nodded her head in response, Link put his sword in the sheath on his belt and extinguished the remaining embers from the fire. And so they traveled on to Goronia. The steep mountain passages didn't make it easy, but they made progress. Slowly Link noticed that it was getting warmer. "Those must be the warm springs, then Goronia shouldn't be far away," he thought to himself, and sure enough, a small Goron suddenly rolled around the corner and almost hit Epona. "Hey, watch out!" Link called to him and the little Goron was frightened. "Excuse me," said the Goron fearfully and looked at Link. Link looked at him with big eyes and asked, "You're a Hylian knight, aren't you? Why are you here?" Link smiled and answered. "Yes, I'm a knight, I wanted to talk to Darunia." Little Goron's eyes widened so much that he was so excited. "I can take you to Darunia." "Thank you, I know the way. Darunia and I are old friends," Link replied and so Link continued on to Goronia. When they arrived, Epona was waiting outside. Link hadn't even really arrived yet and he was already listening. "Hello brother, nice to have you back."

I mostly do so after replaying Botw Gerudo part. With me coming to the theory that Vilia is Riju's father, since he gives Link the clothes needed to sneak into Gerudo town. With him being the reason for the loss of the late Gerudo Chief, as the Yiga learned of the Chief leaving the town walls to met her Voe as he lived close. As he wore the Gerudo clothing to view his daughter and not get thrown into the prisons. As the chef would know and be able to share clothing for such ways to sneak within the Gerudo town walls. Although now his Vai is gone, he continues to wear his clothes from the late chief. Only being able to watch his daughter from afar, and guilt with watching as Divine Beast Naboru causing an uproar. Until he is able to met Link, and give him clothes. However with by TotK the Yiga soon found the Chief's Voe and that he was a traitor to Yiga Clan. Wczoraj były moje 31. urodziny.

To był jeden z najlepszych dni mojego życia. Jeden z najlepszych dni tego roku, a przypominam, że widziałam Stylesa trzy razy.

Dostałam mnóstwo prezentów i życzeń, także od osób, od których bym się nie spodziewała (np. od mojego papieża :)).

Ale najlepszym prezentem był telefon z biblioteki.

Nie wygrałam naboru, ale i tak dostałam pracę. Na początku staż z Urzędu Pracy.

Naboru from Ocarina of Time and Shantae having a somewhat similar outfit, long pony tails and tan skin makes me think that either Shantae's farther was either Gannondorf or one of the rare Male Gerudo's that are born only every 100 years in Zelda lore. Shantae is Half Gerudo and is in a shared univerce with the Zelda franchise confirmed! XD

Well, that source of history’s lost forever, but at least the gibdos are shrivelling in the sun, the ghosts are put to rest, and Riju found a cool rock.

I don't think you guys understand how much I appreciate the German translation here.

Translation:

Naboru: You really did become a courageous hero!

Translation:

Naboru: You deserve very special recognition...

I think we are all familiar with Naboru's English text right here. And I have to say I'm a little upset at it.

For those who don't know. In the English version Naboru's parting words are "If only I'd known you'd become such a handsome man. I would have kept the promise I made 7 years ago" (if some words are wrong don't fight me on it. I'm not looking up the full text now)

But many people take this text and use it as a clear interpretation that Naboru promised something along the lines of sex.

And I hate that. And for many reasons.

1) It implies that Naboru would have done sexual activity with a child! And I don't think I need to say why that's wrong.

And 2) It really, really undermines what is meant to be a very important part of the game. This is the final sage. Her parting words. And people interprete it in sexual context and only remember it as the "ha ha! She says she would have wanted sex with Link!" moment. Which sucks!

So I'm glad to see that in the German translation Naboru instead is actively saying that Link is worthy of being called a hero. Instead of the little kid she used to see him as.

Her words have genuine meaning here.
