Rarely am I kept awake by a photo, however I can’t get this one out of my mind.

The transformation of young lion Jaime White, who was bullied mercilessly by the Elites Bullet Club, yet being chosen by Devitt to go to the Dojo. Being mentored by Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin, to Shelley’s hand in creating Switchblade. Last night I think we saw the first glimpse of Jaime in probably 8 years, and it a true babyface Jay White is what is coming it comes at the expense of Switchblade.

Switchblade is the exterior that protects Jaime, it’s why he can take the whippings and almost enjoy them, because it makes Switchblade feel something. We’ve seen the evolution of Switchblade in AEW he’s got a club around him he trusts (maybe a first) he’s not as reactive but the savagery is still there (hi PAC) and he’s more calculating it’s a slower more methodical plan.

I fully believe that the Kendo work was almost the personality split or him giving into the rage of Switchblade. The frustration of caring therefore not seeing all the pieces on the board. He was rendered helpless, and that’s not something that Switchblade is, Jaime was helpless, and often the butt of the joke.

Switchblade turned on Shelley and Sabin creating some of the greatest in ring storytelling that can be done between teacher and student. It didn’t hurt him to do, we’ve seen him beat down and beat out members of Bullet Club with no hesitation. However last night we watched Jaime surface,the masterful picture where the facial hair is hidden , the sad eyes and the hand reaching for Copeland.

It’ll be interesting to see if he goes full baby face , they can draw on the true story of him being in the crowd at Edges last match. They can truly turn him, if the vulnerability is there. My personal preference is that we keep the glimpses of Jaime that he stays in the in between.
