Things We Thought My Dyspraxia was Prior to Diagnosis:

-'They're just clumsy, they'll get there'

-'Normal autistic proprioception issues'

-Nerve injury to the back caused by violin (because why the shooting pain)

-Tendinitis caused by violin (because why the shooting pain)

It was all dyspraxia all along. We spent years wondering how I ended up with some kind of an injury from playing violin and piano, and how I got this injury a) at 14 years old and b) with not especially bad technique. Don't get me wrong – I'm not a great violinist, and I wasn't a great pianist, but my technique wasn't bad enough that it should have caused firey shooting pain down the arms. We originally suspected tendinitis, and then doctors started disagreeing – my GP said wear and tear, while my acupuncturist said nerve damage to the upper back. We all agreed on RSI as a catch-all term, and I stopped playing piano because otherwise it was only going to get worse. But we still had no clue how it could've happened so early, since I didn't tend to practise nearly as much as I should have, and I wasn't playing with sufficient technical issues to develop problems.

Turns out having really, really weak muscles means they struggle to do the same stuff that would make most non-dyspraxic people a bit sore.

So yeah – neurodevelopmental disorders are very much physical in nature. Fun times when your disorder that's supposedly a difference, rather than a disability, actually imitates a somewhat serious physical injury.

to see the emergency doctors, you have to walk all the way to a&e where a nurse will talk to you for three minutes and immediately send you back to the emergency doctors
