Pressing Toward the Goal
12 Not as though I have already received, or have already been perfected; but I am striving, so that I may also lay hold on that for which I also was laid hold of by Christ Jesus. 13 Brethren, I do not count myself as having attained; but this one thing I do-- forgetting the things that are behind, and reaching forth to the things that are ahead, 14 I press toward the goal for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. — Philippians 3:12-14 | A Faithful Version (AFV) A Faithful Version Bible Copyright © 2007, 2009, 2010, 2011 York Publishing Company. Prayer Request: Burn Out and Compassion Fatigue
In my Christian life (not my professional one), I have been called to sometimes advocate for those who cannot do so for themselves for a plethora of reasons. When I first learned of this calling, I was grateful and humbled; I felt thankful that God wanted to use me in such a way. Last night, I found myself asking God what would happen if I gave this calling back to Him. Well, this won't be happening, but I was quite concerned with my shift in feelings. It all just seemed so bleak, hopeless, and so incredibly hard. I have been separated from the situation for less than 24 hours, and I am already starting to feel like myself once again.
All of this caused me to research burnout and compassion fatigue, and this is exactly what I'm facing. I am posting about this here for anyone who may need this information.
It is vital to let God show you how to find the balance of Christian Love and self care. To be an effective Christian regardless of your calling, you MUST employ both.
For me personally, the feeling of being very under appreciated is the most crippling. When I expend so much energy on a situation and the reciprocation seems vastly disproportionate, it leaves me feeling as though I am being taken for granted and less than, of little importance. However, if you are in this situation, it is important to consider how much of yourself the others involved actually have asked you to give; fairness matters. My particular situation extends back to around mid June, just over five months ago. If you are facing this and it has gone on for years, my heart is with you.
Finally, it is important to know when to walk away. God will show you if and when someone is refusing your help; He will show you when it is finally time to let go. I haven't reached this point in my personal situation, but the fact that even thinking about entering back into it slightly causes me an immense sense of dread is indicative of just how important self care is.
Please pray that when I do have to re-enter this situation, I will be able to step out as needed. I am praying for anyone and everyone going through this type of thing. Just know that God loves you, others love you, and I love you as well. You are not alone.

EVERY SINGLE DAY there are MILLIONS of characters in their late 20s who get falsely accused of being father figures to teenagers when in reality the description of "weird older cousin" or "step-sibling that moved out before you were born" is 1000000x more apt

Unlocking the Treasures of Ephesians 1:18: A Journey to Spiritual Enlightenment
Have you ever wondered about the proper depth of your spiritual inheritance? Ephesians 1:18 offers a profound glimpse into the riches God has in store for believers. This verse is like a treasure map, guiding us to discover the hope of God's calling, the wealth of His glorious inheritance, and the immeasurable greatness of His power.
Let's start with the hope of His calling. God doesn't just invite us to follow Him; He calls us to a life of purpose and meaning. This isn't a vague, wishy-washy hope but a solid assurance of God's plan for our lives. It's like having a personal invitation to the most exclusive event in the universe - God's eternal kingdom!
Next, we encounter the riches of His glorious inheritance. Imagine being told you've inherited a vast fortune. That's exciting, right? The spiritual inheritance God offers is far more valuable than any earthly wealth. It includes eternal life, peace that surpasses understanding, joy that doesn't depend on circumstances, and a personal relationship with the Creator of the universe.
But wait, there's more! The verse also speaks of the immeasurable greatness of God's power. This isn't just any power - the same mighty strength that raised Jesus from the dead. Think about that for a moment. The power that conquered death itself is available to believers. This power can transform lives, heal broken hearts, and overcome seemingly impossible obstacles.
To grasp these truths, Paul prays for the eyes of our hearts to be enlightened. This isn't about physical sight but spiritual perception. It's about seeing life from God's perspective, understanding His ways, and recognizing His work in our lives.
So, how can we practically apply this verse to our lives? Start by spending time in prayer, asking God to open the eyes of your heart. Read His Word regularly, allowing its truths to sink deep into your soul. Look for evidence of God's calling, inheritance, and power daily.
Remember, this enlightenment is a journey, not a one-time event. Be patient with yourself and keep seeking God. As you do, your spiritual vision will become more precise, your faith more muscular, and your life more aligned with God's excellent plan.
In conclusion, Ephesians 1:18 invites us on an exciting adventure of spiritual discovery. It challenges us to see beyond the visible and grasp the incredible riches God has for us. Why not take a moment right now to pray, asking God to enlighten the eyes of your heart? You might be surprised at the treasures He reveals!

“People are inherently terrible” no!!! Have you ever seen a child wait for their friend while they tie their shoelaces? Have you ever known someone who would bring hurt squirrels and rabbits and mice to the nearest vet just so it doesn’t suffer? Have you seen someone grieve? Have you ever read something that hit your heart like a freight train? Have you looked at the stars and felt an unexplainable joy? Have you ever baked bread? Have you shared a meal with a friend? Have you not seen it? All the love? All the good? I know it’s hard to see sometimes, I know there’s pain everywhere. But look, there’s a child helping another up after a hard fall. Look, there’s someone giving their umbrella to a stranger. Look, there’s someone admiring the spring flowers. Look, there’s good, there’s good, there’s good. Look!!!!

still ruminating over Lost In the Book With Spooky Skeletons Part 1, so here's a selection of some of my favorite little bits! (...some more loosely paraphrased than others) (I just feel like Idia has no room to criticize in general, okay)
anyway, I'm sure we're just going to have a fun time celebrating Halloween and nothing bad is going to happen whatsoever! :)

i've been BELTING out the Epic concept album in the car to and from work the past couple of weeks, esp. the bit where Odysseus cries out for Athena at the end of Love in Paradise, and I thought it would be funny if the goddess herself was like WHY is this person in rural NY state calling for me every day at 8:40am and after 5pm
