Mehrunes Dagon kind of gets the rawest deal of the daedric princes, and I feel bad for him.
Dagon's not just the god of destruction, he's the god of change, he's the god of revolution (of all kinds). He's the embodiment of one of the most fundamental forces in the universe, and he's in the most thankless business in existence.
When the ayleid slaves were being broken upon the wheel, it was Mehrunes Dagon who whispered to Alessia, who gave them the strength to shatter their chains. And what did they do after all was said and done? They made a new wheel, new chains, and thanked
When a wrong is righted, it's always Stendarr who gets thanked for the justice that was served. Never Dagon for giving the courage to speak out against that injustice.
When the mountain blows its top and spews ash that settles into the soil of Vvardenfell and the crops of the dunmer grow strong and bountiful, they thank the Tribunal for the harvest, and never for the volcano that made the land fertile.
He's been there since the start, since the first daedron ate the first aedron and gave forth light. But everyone's only ever thankful for the warmth of a fire, never the fire itself. He's behind every chance ever taken, every redemption and desire to do better.
No wonder he's so pissed all the time. Has anyone ever just told him "thank you"? I doubt it.
#Mehrunes Dagon#Look I get that in 40k the gods' better natures got subsumed by the sheer amount of grimdark happening#But can we once in a while explore the more positive aspects of daedric princes#Blackwood or whatever promised a better look into dagon but he was still just a destroyer guy#Where's the exploration of Namira's pity#Where's Vaermina's ruling over the dreams that aren't nightmares#Come on man

Headcanon that every angel has a demon who's their soulmate (romantic or platonic)
That one being they can trust and be themselves with, someone who can be their safety net and help them break their conditioning from their respective sides (I'll make a post with more on the conditioning later)
Till now we've seen:
Aziraphale has Crowley
Gabriel has Beelzebub
And there's been some speculation and shipping of:
Muriel and Eric
Michael and Dagon
(I only mentioned shipping cause those seem to be popular as romantic pairings but they could also easily be read as platonic!)
Now going to my point: I have this headcanon that metatron is just taking advantage of the systemic problems of heaven and spewing more and more bullshit to the angels to manipulate them into doing "what God wants" and has taken over by this point (mind you he is not necessarily THE problem of heaven, he's more of a representation of what is wrong with the system as a whole while also representing real people who are in positions of power and take advantage of a broken system to meet their own interests).
Now what if God,knowing that would happen, decided to pair the angels and then made half of them fall so that they'd have different points of view? Which yes is cruel and again a representation that God is kinda fucked up and so is her system and you might ask why do that? Why make all of them go through all this suffering to learn a lesson that wouldn't even be necessary in the first place if only she hadn't created the very problem the lesson was about?and my answer to that is: go read any passage of the Bible, that's just how God is,with all of her trials and tribulations...
But anyways, back on track: since they'd be fighting they would need a middle ground that didn't belong to either side (earth) and as they'd compete for human souls they'd end up meeting their soulmates and together they'd hopefully get closer to the humans and would start a process of deprogramming (I'll dive more into it on the conditioning post), cause that's pretty much what's happening with Zira and Crowley, is what happened with Gabe and Bee, they met their soulmate and started learning to enjoy life outside the feud between heaven and hell, they started learning that there's nothing wrong with just being happy and finding out who they want to be outside the limitations of their sides
So yeah
God knew shit would go down because she designed it to happen and decided to pair them all up to have some support on their journeys

What is David the Demon's deal, btw?? In episode 1 we see him basically summon fish to try to free himself. In episode 7, Crystal says she knows he's in the abandoned skating rink because it reeks of fish.
#is he supposed to be a reference to Dagon#I mean the names are similar enough and Dagon was sort of a fish god#and he does ask Crystal “do I get to be a god again” in Ep7#which I always interpreted as him saying her power from before made him feel godlike#but maybe he really was worshipped like a god once and that's why he wants Crystal so badly#david the demon#dead boy detectives#dbda#dbd rewatch#crystal palace

Very specific situation, but if Lucifer was able to let their consciousness leave the cage with absolutely no powers other than functioning like an eternal ghost that can possess humans with their consent, they would not go to their demons to try to bust out of the cage. Because every single demon would put them in a jar and shake it.
#Like yeah almost every demon will throw themselves into a woodchipper for their god. But god is currently broke and naked.#And would fit nicely in a jar. They're demons. They slant towards the most destructive or cruel choice possible.#Lilith would make them a very pretty gilded jar. Dagon would make a good one too but shake it A Lot.#Post season 5 Crowley is making the WORST jar. But pre? It's right fab. A lot of demons are making ass kissy jars but they're still jars.#And they're still gonna shake the jars. Vigorously.#Voting for Asmodeus to make the worst jar. He thinks this is playtime. Not revenge for the Shedim incident just a continuation.#You might think the jar is a metaphor for something and it can be. But please know I Am Visualizing A Jar. With sticks and leaves.

2023 Art Roundup
JAN - FEB - MAR - APR - MAY - JUN - JUL - AUG - SEP - OCT - NOV - DEC
(These aren’t entirely indicative of when I posted them, but when I actually finished them.)
These are some of my biggest/favorite projects through each month!
Piece details + Mod-posting below!
JAN - Asteía ; This was one of my first projects of the year that dealt with lighting, and additionally light from multiple sources! I also remember experimenting with backgrounds and how to make a character pop against a semi-detailed background without making them get lost in the piece.
FEB - Mora and Ego ; This was a good project on figuring out how to fill empty space while still keeping the atmosphere of a piece. It was also good perspective practice!
MAR - Sanguine and Ego ; Though I’m no longer too happy with the proportions or lighting of this piece, I still remember having a blast with it. Hearing feedback about them holding hands and Sanguine’s ear getting squished are very fun memories for me.
APR - Miraak and Ego ; This might be my favorite project of the whole year! Though I know I can do backgrounds better now, I remember being pretty confident and happy during the whole process! I think the motion/lighting/effects all came out very well :] ALSO it was the first piece I did with expressive masks for Miraak and Ego! Wahoo!
MAY - Mora and Ego (again) ; Though the last one was my personal favorite, I heard from a couple of friends that THIS was their favorite. Though a pain in the ASS to do, I’m especially happy with all the texture effects. This was also me experimenting with Mora’s design!
JUN - Erandur ; Not a particularly complicated/difficult piece, but one that was simply pure fun. Had a blast with lighting effects and atmosphere. It was also a good break from the family trip I was taking at the same time ,:]
JUL - Dagon ; Specifically his revamp! This was my first successful attempt at a (very) muscular body type that I liked! In fact, over the course of the year I’ve been pretty proud of my progress of expanding on body types. This one especially, though, was just very fun!
AUG - Iren and Rakell ; My first dive into a colored + shaded animatic (animation? It’s awful choppy lol)! FAR from perfect, but I was (and still am) so happy with the outcome. I particularly remember enjoying figuring out lines of movement and sound effects for the video.
SEP - Sanguine ; My first (and still only, though hopefully not for long) attempt at making Sanguine intimidating. I think this one is going in the right direction! As far as effects go, I actually had a very tough time with things because of a few layer-merging mishaps, but the final product was well-received!
OCT - The Warden ; After many-a night on Minecraft with friends, I realized just how much I loved the warden, and HAD to draw them. Redesigning characters is one of my absolute favorite things to do, especially when taking minimal details and expanding on them! They were super fun all around.
NOV - Miraak, Serana, Ego, and Ancano ; I’d been meaning to draw the siblings being siblings for a while now, but putting them all on one canvas was more than a little intimidating. I was so happy to have it done, though, and I kinda love seeing their colors clash together.
DEC - Sanguine (again) ; After not drawing him for so long, it was a blast doing so. The moment I was back home for winter break, I was ECSTATIC to get to work on this piece. #1 blorbo

This year has been an absolute ride.
I became a mod and then co-owner of the TES server that got me into making TDI and have made some really tight friendships over there (genuinely, anyone reading this who is/was in the cult server, I’m so damn happy to know you).
I’ve done some intense progress on TDI, and even though I didn’t QUITE accomplish my New Years Resolution of posting Ch. 1 this year, hopefully you can understand the drawbacks considering I am… //checks notes/// 70+ chapters in and still going.
I’m in college! Have been for a hot second now, but I’ve been working towards a ministry degree, and have future plans of getting a PhD after my bachelor’s so I can teach at a college level! I don’t think I talk a lot about my irl happenings, but hopefully that gives you an idea of why I might be a liiittle busy when it comes to writing. Ministry is an unforgiving degree when it comes to papers and meetings.
As earlier mentioned, I’ve learned how to do different body types, and am trying to find a good balance between shape language and inclusivity when it comes to bodies! I am… still struggling with feminine anatomy! Admittedly! But I’m willing to keep trying ,:]
And, overall, I (certainly hope I have) improved on my art. I have a much better sense of face shapes, line weights, and consistent details than I did at the beginning of the year. Always learning, but always improving, too!
I hope your year has gone well! Thank you so very much for checking out my blog. Tumblr has been a wonderful thing to get into and has led me to a lot of wonderful people. See you in the new year!

And somewhere in the deep sea we reach Day 3 .
I've set the bar pretty high for myself here. Cause of course Fear Itself summons Father Dagon - and how the hell do you draw a creature that's notorious for driving you insane just by you looking at it?
TBH, I spent a good part of the morning avoiding it before I finally got down to the research.
In the end, I was inspired by a picture of a submarine heading straight for the maw of the Bloob monster. Then crossed that one with a frogfish and- honestly I have no clue what in the shit the 3rd part that I stuffed into the template is supposed to be. Something moray eel-like that looks like it has tentacles instead of a tongue in the picture?! It was probably some AI stuff, but the tentacle tongue/s were the perfect icing on the cake for #Dagon . Even King's Pennywise added a few bits. The glow in Dagon's mouth is inspired by Penny's death light ;)
I would have thought that it would feel kinda like drawing Cthulhu considering both him and Dagon share the same element.
Didn't feel like it at all.
Cthulhu despite all the when he wakes up the world ends - stuff at least has some sort of a melancholic, dramatic undertone, making you feel some sort of empathy for him - I mean, being trapped in an seemingly endless sleep sound lke an very own horror show. So yeah, Thulhu kinda has Shakespeare - Tragedy vibes.
Absolute different story with Dagon. We know way less bout his motives or any traits that make him somewhat relatable. There is only this pure, primal horror. A creature stealing the last bit of our sanity, doing NOTHING, except being there in a form the human mind simply isn't able to understand....

Dagon, watery demon of the ancients. Sometimes said to be a fallen angel who rebelled with Lucifer who now calls hell his home. In the Bible he was stated to have been worshiped by the philistines, who would at times placate him with human sacrifices. One such sacrifice was the biblical hero Samson, who was captured after he lost his divine strength. Before Samson was killed he pleaded to God and asked him for the strength to defeat those who wished to sacrifice him, God answered his wish, giving back his divine strength, with which he used to tear apart the pillars that held up Dagon’s temple, causing it to collapse on top of all who were in it. When the Philistines captured the Ark of the Covenant, they placed it in a temple dedicated to Dagon, right in front of a statue of him. The next day they came back to see the statue prostrate in front of the Ark. They stood the statue back up, but the next day the statue had once again fallen, this time the lower half and hands of the statue were blown apart, leaving it permanently bowed to the power of God.
Dagon was originally a deity worshipped by the ancient Syrians. A very popular god, his worship most likely did spread to the Philistines, but the prospect of human sacrifice hasn’t been found and was most likely an exaggeration. Dagon’s connection to fish and water is a complete fabrication and not in any way apart of his original mythology, it comes from an inaccurate etymology reading saying that Dagon means “fish-like” in Hebrew, they connected this to the imagery of the Odakon and Kulullû, half fish creatures who were actually connected to Enki. This was built upon by the racist H.P Lovecraft, who ran with this false narrative and made Dagon into one of his old ones in his novel the shadow over innsmouth, this novel popularized the notion of Dagon being a fish god, perpetuating the false narrative. Originally in the Bible it was never stated that Dagon was a demon, only mentioned to be a false idol, but with the oncoming popularity of demonology many different negative elements in the Bible were taken to demons and fallen angels. This was later cemented for Dagon in John Milton’s paradise lost, who made Dagon’s origin as a fallen angel.
