It was the night of October --, when our ship had been ransacked by the great Pacfic waves. Our ship had been bound to roll down to Manila from Acapulco for a trading expedition, but the sea had been a cruel mistress, for she took us --all of us! -- into her arms forcibly. This is what happens, when we, poor, unfortunate humans fail to understand her power.
We found ourselves in a strange, if not bizzare underwater kingdom. It was, to say the least, a far cry from our usual Mexican towns and cities and those of the Philippines. Everything was... wrectched, to say the least. As we walked along the paths of this kingdom, I felt a sense of unease and discomfort. I tried to think of the wife and children I left back home, but my mind started to worry. Had we been plunged to purgatory, waiting for our Final Judgement? Was this hell, where we were now condemned to an eternity's worth of punishment? Whatever this stange land was, we uttered out our prayers to all the angels and saints, and to the intercession of the Blessed Mother for our protection, but as we moved along, everything spiralled out of control. One of my crewmates, Damiano, had fallen off a cliff which he thought was a flat road, while another, David, had disappeared high into a warped tower. I felt mad! What was wrong with this place?!! I wanted out! As I traversed the land, my sanity was slipping away and my heart raced! Oh God, what had I done?
Over the distance, it felt like someone was watching me. Was it Satan or one of his demons? Oh no. It was a large, possibly octopuslike creature that was watching my every step, ready to strike a rampage. I was afraid, so afraid, I could... oh Blessed Mother, hear me! It was on a rampage... oh... oh...
When someone dies, the afterlife they go to is determined by WHERE they died. Dying in Scandinavia sends the soul to Valhalla or Hel, but dying in Greece lands them in Hades, and so on. You have just died in the middle of the Pacific Ocean.

One thing I see a lot in cosmic horror stories is the idea that the great old ones or whatever view humans as like ants. The metaphor being that most people don't even think about ants unless the ants start doing something like getting into their house (which would be like people doing rituals to summon the great old ones) and think nothing of killing them. Occasionally you get the kid who likes burning ants with a magnifying glass, which would be Nyarlathotep.
However, using the same metaphor, we have people who are fascinated by ants, who study them for a living and for fun, and who work to conserve ants and keep them alive. If the metaphor holds, we should see great old ones who are interested in humans but aren't hostile.
What I'm saying is that I want a story where humanity discovers an eldritch abomination that proceeds to start doing a study on our habits and biology and appealing to the other great old ones to set up a nature preserve for our conservation.

jonny d’ville aka lyfrassir edda uses the adjective “squamous” approximately 5 times during the bifrost incident concept album which is about four times more than necessary but it is of course a loving homage to hp ‘racist’ hatecraft who just couldn’t get enough of it

Tbh my personal interpretation of the Cthulhu Mythos is as much comedy as it is cosmic horror. The horrors of existence persist but much of the "terrors too awful to perceive" are more a case of closed minded and racist unreliable narrators than anything. Do you really trust the judgement of someone who thinks penguins are grotesque and unnatural? I wouldn't. Knowledge given directly from Nyarlathotep or Yog-Sothoth? Yeah. Nyarlathotep is an extraterrestrial conman who is essentially doing the equivalent of magic tricks to confuse puppies then taking credit for human inventions retroactively ancient aliens style. Nyarlathotep is a weeaboo for Ancient Egypt. Yog-Sothoth is high off its incomprehensible ass all the time. A shoggoth is an outdoor cat. A ghoul is an off leash dog. Richard Upton Pickman is a furry. It is more cosmically silly than anything else, you understand?
