Sephiroth stood before Glenn Lodbrok, and silence had whispered between them for minutes and minutes on end as the energy, dark and powerful, brimmed and quivered around them. But finally, the blond spoke.

[REBIRTH SPOILERS BELOW THE CUT]

Regret...? Did Sephiroth regret anything? The silverette could grin in this moment, a crooked and heartless grin of amusement. Oh, how the weaving fates of the world entertained him now. Absolution, or salvation, it didn't matter what he reached--every single world, every single fate, every single glory and armageddon would be his entertainment, his fulfillment, his payment for the wrongs that were his existence.

It was the price existence had to pay, for allowing him a first breath, and many lasts.

But even now, under that glee, under that untouchable tainted gods exterior, there were flickers of memory...memory of that Sephiroth that had died slowly and painfully for years. Those memories carried feeling that was stirred, by the right catalyst. And even though Glenn stood before him, a puppet with state of life unclear between where he ended and life seeped out of him, and where Sephiroth's hold and grasp on him began.

Those flickers ran through memory, through missions, through moments. All of them, with Glenn. Butting heads, learning, the first and seemingly singular embraces found therein, and the ways in which the defector had left a long lasting impact that would echo through much of the way the former Perfect SOLDIERs life had been lived.

Hojo, labs, tests, his mother, the picture, the missions, the death, the wars, the propoganda, ShinRa, the executives, the recruits, Genesis, Angeal, Zack, Nibelheim, Jenova, Cloud, ruin, rage, rust, revenge....

Regret?

Sephiroth raised his hand, as if observing it curiously, only for his fingers to flex, invoking movement from the puppet standing before him. Any other moment, his strings were tight and pulled, drawn to every whim the monster possessed. But in this moment, there was only the tug. Glenn's question...was fully his own. Glenn, or whatever echoes Sephiroth's power allowed to linger, yearned to ask this question.

And for some reason, Sephiroth saw fit to give him an answer. Somewhere, below the mountains and oceans of rage, wounds, and divine righteousness, he remembered the man who had truly seen him.

"What I regret...singularly...is not reaching my power and right sooner. Imagine, Glenn...how much sooner I could have changed this world, this existence... Imagine what I could have stopped, and what I could have saved... A pity..."

I never had any issues with the character renders for Remake but the new ones for Rebirth look so much better it's insane

Imagine what it’s like being Lazard. Your top three employees according to fate are a 1) silver haired cat-man with three cycles of NPC dialogue he cycles through before he’s socially useless, who carries a sword longer than his body and is scarily proficient at his job and apparently nothing else 2) a fucking ginger (derogatory) obsessed with an old poem he recites regularly that’s our contextual equivalent of quoting Homer in day to day conversation, and is always cat fighting with the cat man because he can’t stand not being the center of attention, whose only redeeming quality is that he’s more conscious of keeping up public appearances and that’s only on the days he isn’t feeling Pyromaniacal and then 3) one singular semi-functional man that’s perpetually tired from mentoring others and babysitting his coworkers, who has such a rigid sense of honor that you could hit it with the Buster and it wouldn’t give. And that guy is probably depressed

Honestly it’s a miracle he didn’t snap before Crisis Core. Being the manager for that group would’ve put me in a fucking coma

Someone on Twitter said that since Sephiroth is associated with stars/the cosmos (and a direct mirror to Aerith who is like the representative of Earth), that his fall from grace is like if a star lost its light and fell, but that made me think of how his final limit break is Supernova, and that’s the death of a star.

It’s the final stage before it dies or collapses into a black hole, sometimes little neutron stars. It releases that last burst of energy and then loses itself. Sephiroth was born to expand and grow to his cosmic limit and die in a blaze of glory. Both beautiful and utterly terrifying.
