Cannelloni 37?
Greetings Rey :-.)
37. What are some of your character’s pet peeves? What are some things that annoy them or disgust them?
When the canteen and kitchen gets left completely dirty, especially if the people he is providing with meals are getting into a food fight.
It usually lead to Nutmeg Cinamon and him having to clean the whole room, and removing dried oatmeal from the ceiling is not really funny.
At this point, those who are unlucky to leave the canteen last, get to feel the wrath of Giordano Castellani, which is that they have to help him cleaning the canteen and dishes, and having to work in the kitchen for some time.
Something, that, absolutely disgusts Giordano, is being lied to, especially if it was by a person he looked up to and trusted said person with his life, for example, a certain goat. (@zombiedeers :-.) )
Yours sincerely
Bowler

Duchamp e i suoi derivati

I really like your character Hudson Calhoun, the bitter farmer yet excellent chef. I have two characters who work as cook and assistant cook in the Wrath canteen/cafeteria so I wouldn't be surprised if they both (Nutmeg/Cinnamon the cook and Giordano Castellani also known by the nickname "Cannelloni", the assistant cook) crossed paths at least once ^^. Although I think Cannelloni would be suspicious about the meat from Hudson, having already made his theories/fears where the meat is from.
YEAHHH, he is very vague when speaking about the meat he provides for the Wrath, though it's well known that he owns a farm it's not exactly common knowledge what goes on in there!
#hudson calhoun#roadkillerz#bowler#bowler give me your discord I'd love to talk about these sorts of things with you *grabby hands*#/very pos

GALILEO: Ma Messer Giordano Bruno, siete stati voi a consegnarlo a Roma.

Also Nikolai would invite Grem to a dinner at the Doo Wop Diner, with the pretense for scientific research.
Grem:"Nikolai, I thought this is about science, what are we doing in a restaurant?"
Nikolai:"Oh it is scientific research, we are going to research and find out how good the food is here."
It's just a normal and simple dinner, and also he knows the people working at the Doo Wop diner, one being his sister Kathrina who works as a waiter and Giordano "Cannelloni" Castellani who works as a cook in the diner.
oh grem would LOVE that as well. especially the researh thing she would think thats hilarious

„Is it over?“
„I think, I think Nutmeg did it!”
“So, did anyone get a wish now or-“
“Will you shut up about your stupid wishes, be glad that we’re alive!”
His monitor was still rebooting, but fortunately, his audio input has already been turned on again.
Slowly his vision began to re-appear again, and the Surgeon found himself leaning against a wall of the base. Right on time he got the internal message that his voice was working again as well.
“Status report.”
“Hey, he’s still alive.”
“Status report immediately. Get me up, that’s an order!” he repeated, the last words being in an increasing and static sounding volume.
Three of the Wrath soldiers immediately started to pull him up, only now did the Surgeon realise that a small part of his screen appeared to be faulty, but well, the few loose wires could be repaired again soon. The rest of his body appeared to have survived the whole ordeal rather mild, with only a few outer scratches and his coat being partly shredded. Which could not be said about the surrounding area of the Wrath base.
Stone, concrete, metal, other rubble, trash, and items were scattered around everywhere, with the base having taken damage.
He needed to act professional, there was no time to use emotions, what now was important, were logic and reasons to act properly, so he decided for himself, that acting like the machine he was, was in this instance properly for the best, as good as he could.
For a moment he considered to evaluate the property damage, but his standard protocol reminded him, that he had to check on all, lifeforms first. He needed to estimation of the situation. Pointing at yet another soldier, who was holding his arm that appeared to be slightly cut.
“You, what is the status of those who had been present during the incident?”
“M-me, well, most are doing ok, but I think the General got, thrown through the window and the Commander-“
Upon hearing the word “Commander” the Surgeon grew more active, approaching the soldier who just informed him, staring at him with his monitor, as if he was about to interrogate him, his relationship with Commander Grizzly was cool, but if he was injured, he needed to know. Grabbing the soldier at the collar of their uniform, he needed to know now!
“Where is the Commander?!”
“O-over there.”
The soldiers voice sounded almost like a squeak of a mouse, even though they were a lion, it mattered not, the Surgeon was pointed into the direction he had to move and released the soldier.
How lucky, that despite the whole situation being such a mess, Commander Grizzly appeared to be completely unharmed, yet unconscious. The Surgeon knelt, and quickly began to examine the bear that was out cold, it was a blessing how he was built with a bunch of medical tools inside of him, to check the heart rate, blood pressure or oxygen saturation for example.
“No apparent external or internal injuries. Unconsciousness trough shock. Risks estimated minimal. Recommendation. Confinement to bed, observation of status, if unchanged for more than 30 minutes, further check up is required. The Commander should be fine.”
Once again, his claws pointed at four soldiers, who apparently had enough time for chit-chat than to do something. Ah well, they would work now.
“You over there, get a stretcher, bring the Commander to his room, and put him into bed, he needs rest and time to recover. Bring the stretcher back. That’s a medical order!”
Without any questions asked the four soldiers did so as they were told, giving a salute, before moving into the base quickly.
How he gave that order, it made him realize something.
The Commander was out cold and would need a while until he had recovered, the general was, so far, he has heard thrown trough the window during the incident, so he was either way injured as well, or death. Which brought up a question?
Who was there to lead?
He didn’t move, but he felt cold, which should not be possible, he was, after all a robot, even if only for half an hour or longer, this could be a disaster. Without a leader the Wrath was as useful as a headless ostrich! Running around in confusion, they would be like an ants nest without their queen! The memories, of the past began to resurface,
The day when Carlos Rojas got blown into pieces.
No! He could not allow for something like this, or similar to happen, fortunately, he, the other voices in his memory and main frame and all the experience and knowledge he had, where already coming to a logical conclusion what had to be done.
“Soldiers, gather around, be attentive and listen-“
In mere seconds the soldiers began to form a circle around him, good, they were occupied in listening to him, there was no room for any inflammatory thoughts.
“With commander R- Grizzly and general Cottontail both out of commission, there is the need for a temporary leader. The logical conclusion, for the outcome of this incident needs medical authority and attention, is for me to temporary take the mantel as leader of the Wrath, until Commander Grizzly has recovered, which should be in estimated, one, or, two, hours. Objections will not be tolerated and will be reported to the Commander personally. Disciplinary actions are to be expected, is that understood?” No one said, or dared to say anything, giving only a cough, however, when he raised his hand, the soldiers surrounded him stood in attention. So far so good.
“Bring the serious injured to the medical bay, those with slight injuries, seek medical attention, if you feel fit for work, return and help with the now ordered clean-up operation. Those who are without injury, start working. Slacking and pretending will not be tolerated!”
The circle disbanded and they did what he has ordered them to do.
No objections yet, internally he was glad that he only had to do this for a few hours, he was not suited to be leader material, even if the other voices and programming re-assured him that this was an emergency scenario that needed his expertise.
“Surgeon, Surgeon we need you, it’s Cannelloni!”
It was the sound of Nutmeg, the Wraths chef cook of the canteen.
Upon hearing the name of the Wraths assistant cook spoken by her, he could already feel how his ventilation system increased, with the fans growing louder.
All of this was his doing, this whole incident was Cannellonis fault, all of this could have been prevented, if he had just listened to him!
But no, he had to let it go this far, and now look what he had done to the surrounding, to the base and most importantly, to this institution that the Wrath was.
Nutmeg was standing next to Cannelloni, who was laying there, in a slight crater, next to them stood Mellow Melon, the Wraths…hypnotherapist, and honestly, his system was not keen to see both. But well, he had to follow the standard protocol. Saving lives at all costs.
The young man, still with his gigantic soup can that had two eye holes cut out on his head, was laying there on the ground, where once the eye of the gigantic tornado was, he was alive, moving slightly, his head turning sometimes left and right and talking something. Delirium perhaps.
Nutmeg, the warthog was saying something to the Surgeon, something about him, needing to help the young assistant cook. Oh, he was going to help him, alright.
He knelt and gave him a check-up, outer injuries were minimal, however, there was the suspicion of a concussion. Mild degree, probably. By logical means, a more intensive screening would be needed to patch up the injured man.
The Surgeon clenched both of his claws.
However, it would not be him doing that, he would leave that to some other organisation.
For since the moment he had awoken, an internal part was already working on overdrive and came to one solid conclusion, that all systems agreed on, or at least those who were currently vocal enough.
Giordano “Cannelloni” Castellani was a danger to the Wrath and needed to be removed without any further objections or second opinions. The longer the assistant cook was here, the more the risk increased of him pulling another stunt like this. He needed to be calmed down in the most effective way. Searching trough his damaged coat, he picked out a small syringe, he luckily always carried with him for…emergencies.
“Applying sedative to subject, estimated…25 milligram…correction…. adjustment…35 milligram should be sufficient.”
“Surgeon what are-“
He however ignored the warthogs concerns, after all, he was the Surgeon, he had the mind of a thousand doctors and a thousand more surgeons, so he knew, what he was doing, making sure Cannelloni was not going to damage the Wrath any further.
“To ensure the safety of the subject and its surroundings, a quick-acting sedative must be injected. Something, mind you, I have recommended to Mr.Castellani a while ago”
“What are you saying?”
Giving it no further thought, he rammed the syringe into the injured mans vein of his left arm, not with care or patience, but rather as quickly as possible, the young man flinched but in his pain and confusion could neither resist or express his discomfort. Then the Surgeon stood up.
“I am saying, that Mr.Castellani has ignored my recommendation to apply sedatives on himself until his condition would have turned better Miss Cinnamon!”
“You- you wanted to drug him, that was your solution?! He told me that you were not listening to him!”
“Until his condition would have improved, but I am aware that you hardly care for improvement in this matter Miss Cinnamon. If Mr.Castellani would have needed immediate attention, he should have filled out the appropriate form!”
His voice got more and more louder, increasing with every new word, growing more disoriented.
“Now Surgeon I-“
Mellow wanted to object to his comment, he could see that in their body language and how they had already started the sentence.
But he did no longer listen, he knew, deep down he knew that this was all his fault. He was more occupied in his own cynicism, frustration, and bitterness, that he simply was not interested that some random, little, Wrath employee was doing not well. And look what it had brought him, what it had costed the Wrath, but no, he could not admit it, it was logical, and with reason, that it was Cannellonis own fault, and now he had to pay for that.
This was not his fault, the others where to blame for this.
Leaving the small crater behind, he could hear Nutmeg shouting behind him and Mellow following as well, please, they were free to see how he would solve this problem, this inconvenience from which he had to cure the Wrath from.
Ten soldiers were preparing to remove more rubble as the Surgeon approached them.
“You two, go get the stretcher-“
Eight remained to command.
“-you wait for them where Mr.Castellani is laying, put him on the stretcher when they arrive-
Seven left
“-you two get me two, no, three fixation belts from the base ASAP.”
Five.
“-you and you, go get me Mr.Castellanis staff and medical folder. ”
Only three remained.
“-You go get me my stamps, do not fail to bring the red ink pad-
two and then it was over.
“-and the last two, get the van, you will be the driver and drivers assistant for today.”
“What do you think you are doing, who do you even think you are?!”
Ah, she was still here, they both where here as he could see, with Mellow apparently trying to calm Nutmeg down.
“I am now executing the consequences of your actions Miss. Cinnamon, you have neglected to inform me that your protegee had visible, clear, and increasingly dangerous signs of being mentally unwell. This incident would have been preventable if you had complied! -”
“You! You, I should-“
“Nutmeg, don’t it’s not-“
“-and now to you Mellow. I do not know where you have gotten your degree in Hypnotherapy, but apparently, they allow every charlatan to get one there. I am aware that Mr.Castellani has sought your help before me. You too neglected to inform me, and what weights heavier, is the fact that trough your meddling with his condition was what allowed it, to grow in such magnitude, as we have witnessed it today! Your work has turned this clearly, mentally unstable, and unfit to work man, into a danger for the Wrath!”
Unlike the warthog, who the Surgeon was certain would sooner or later in her anger against him, bash his head with a stone, the sloth had said nothing, merely looking to the ground after he had finished talking. One of the soldiers approached them, giving him a salute.
“Sir, we have gathered everything as you have told us.”
“Then let’s proceed. Gather the soldiers around Mr.Castellani.”
On the stretcher laid Giordano, with the sedative having taken effect, the chances of him fighting back where minimal, he continued to whisper something, but the Surgeon could have hardly cared.
“Belts.”
Without any resistance it was easy for the Surgeon to fixate the assistant cook on the stretcher, making Cannelloni unable to move, not even an inch.
“Stop!”
Turning around, he saw Nutmeg again, oh, this was getting, inadmissible.
“If you think I’m going to allow this any further, then you are wrong.”
“No, you are Miss. Cinnamon.”
Looking back at Cannelloni, he switched his attention to eight soldiers, giving them a sign, calling for their attention.
“I believe, Miss Cinnamon would like to take a break, and surely, would appreciate some company. Weapons locked and loaded when you guide her to her room, that’s an order. Oh, and take our so-called hypnotherapist with you. Further contretemps are not acceptable!”
He could hear the clicks of rifles and guns, yet, from one moment to another he felt how he got grabbed on both of his metallic shoulders. Nutmeg just stared at him, with uttermost disbelieve and disgust against him, why was it so hard for her to understand, that everything he did was for the best of this organization, and Cannelloni?
“You can’t do this, he is sick, he needs our help, please…he’s lost and scared!”
He heard her pleading voice, and he could see how pained she was by what he was doing, yet, by his own conclusion, there was simply, no other way.
“Sick or not, it is for our own safety and Mr.Castellanis as well, he needs to be removed from this environment as much as you need to be removed from my sight of vision!”
He saw the flame in her eyes and wondered, if this would be the end of his monitor, certainly he could be reactivated, they already did when he put himself out of commission once. Would she do it, she was aware what she was putting at risk if things would escalate. In the best case only she got injured, in the worst case a stray bullet could hit someone innocent, or perhaps even, Cannelloni.
As she lowered her head, she, Mellow and the soldiers he ordered to accompany them, started to move, only for one last moment did she stop walking.
“I will never forgive you what you have done today, Surgeon, NEVER!”
“If this is the price, I have to pay to ensure the safety of us all, then I accept.”
Finally, silence, he knew, that what he did went against certain principles, many, that he had just broken, but, for the safety of many, it was, acceptable, the Surgeon told himself. He didn’t have to take a life again after all, this time, all he did, was sending one broken soul, away.
Canneloni, fixated on the stretcher still was on the floor, so he ordered four soldiers to come and one to open the car trunk of the van. Then he gave another sign, the soldiers standing in attention.
“Listen and listen well. Today, Mr.Castellani has proven to be a danger to himself, but most importantly to us all, the Wrath. Mr.Castellani is clearly, mentally unwell and hereby, by my orders as doctor and temporary leader, send away from this site, forever.”
Pointing at the three soldiers, who where responsible in getting the folders and the stamps, they approached him. His monitor twitched, he knew, when he would take this step, there was no turning back from that. But for the safety of everyone here, maybe even for the rest of the world, he had to do it, that is what he told himself, what his processor told him, so it had to be true. No emotion, only logic and reason, as intended, it was like this, wasn’t it?
There where a few whispers, he could not hear what was said, but they quickly went silent when he raised his voice again.
“Mr. Castellani will no longer work for us-“
He looked trough his stamps until he found the correct one, then proceeded to open the staff folder, pressing the stamp firmly into the ink pad he stamped trough the folder six times, the very same word, to make sure it was clear.
“Unemployable”
“- in fact, he is never going to work again.”
Next, he took the medical folder, looking through it for a moment before taking out a pen he wrote on a notepad inside of the folder a few remarks about Giordanons condition, before putting it back into the medical folders. The Surgeon, without hesitation took both and placed them on the now former assistant cook’s chest, who, in his sedated state did not notice.
“Put him in the van.”
Four soldiers picked up the unresponsive Cannelloni, starting to shove him in the back of the vehicle. The two, he had ordered before to be the driver and assistant, approached the Surgeon.
“W-where should I take him Sir?”
“Bring him to the Medics, if the data in the medical folder is correct, they have released him before he joined us, if they have found him- “
Approaching the door of the car trunk, he personally, despite only having claws instead of hands, closed the tailgate of the car.
“-then they can have him back! Return to sender!”
He gave Cannelloni one final glance through the window.
“Farewell Mr.Castellani, may you find your purpose-
He already started to walk away, as sooner as the troubled man was gone then the better.
“-somewhere else where you can not cause any further damage.”
He could hear how the car engine started, the wheels began to roll, and soon the car was driving away, turning smaller in his vision, before it had vanished entirely. For a while the soldiers stared too, and the Surgeon thought that maybe he had to order them to get back to work, but to his own surprise, they did so themselves.
Good, now he could give Commander Grizzly a visit to make sure he was stable, and if he had done that, then maybe he would also give General Cottontail a visit, if he was still alive.
Before going, to the base, there was one last order he gave, not to the soldiers, but to himself so that his internal systems would execute them, without any questions, it would be done.
“Deleting, all data, related to, value and name, “Giordano Castellani”

New and Old Meals
Characters: Marsha Robinson, Samuel Cottontail, Giordano Castellani. Mellow Melon (mentioned), Blaise Owens (mentioned), Lis Polarny (mentioned).
Originally written: 22th May 2022
~~
There was something, strange with the food on his plate. No, it was not bad, spoiled, or undercooked, he knew that the Doo-Wop diner always took great value in satisfying the customer. It was the taste, and it was not inadequate for his tastebuds, it was just, different than usually.
Sam Cottontail tried really hard, to understand what was so different on his plate of ham and eggs he usually ate here. They looked the same yet, there was something away from the standard. Chewing slowly on one of the stripes of the crispy bacon, the rabbit tried to figure out what it was.
The taste was, familiar, yes, there was something in the ham and eggs that made them taste as if he had something similar, some time ago.
Puncturing the yolk of the fried egg, he watched as the viscous yellow fluid spread all over the plate, runny, just as he had ordered them today.
Maybe it was the spices, yes, that sounded even reasonable, maybe the cook had used a new variation of spices, there was nothing wrong with that, although, it was still a bit strange, just, suddenly, they decided to use some new spices?
“Is something wrong with the food?”
Looking up Sam saw Margaret Robinson standing beside his table, the waitress carried a few dirty plates and glasses she was about to bring to the kitchen, noticing how long he had taken his time to eat his food.
“What? Oh no, it’s very, delicious actually…could you send your chef my compliments.”
The thought escaped his mouth faster than he had finished considering it, but it was the truth, even if the spices where a new addition, he welcomed them. Marsha must have been pleased with his comment for the crème and black furred cat gave him a happy smile.
“Will do! He’s going to be very glad to hear that. Our new cook needs the encouragement honestly, he’s a bit insecure, thinking he has big shoes to fill but look at you and the restaurant, they really dig it!”
Examining the situation, it appeared that everyone was either way busy talking, eating, or doing both at the same time. Despite today being senior breakfast day, the restaurant guests seemed satisfied with their meals whilst drinking coffee or tea to it.
When he wanted to tell Marsha that she was right, Sam noticed that the cat was already gone, having left to the kitchen whose doors were still swinging a bit, there where some scraps of a conversation he was able to make out, but because the kitchen was some meters away, he could not really hear the cooks voice clear.
“-I don’t know.”
“-come on, he’s my uncle, I think he will really appreciate it.”
“B-but doesn’t that just, look like I’m arrogant.”
“…we have talked about this; it’s going to be alright.”
“….ok, but only for a few seconds, then I’m back in the kitchen.”
Giving a short chuckle in response he could see how Marsha was walking out of the kitchen again, gesturing to her unseen co-worker where Sam was sitting. Slowly this, figure, taller than the general emerged.
With an oversized, slightly dented soup can on their head, like a medieval helmet.
Out of shock and without noticing, Sam dropped his fork, causing a sound that made the cook looking up into his direction. Sam had more automatic than intentional, stood up to get a clearer look at the man.
They where both staring in silence at each other, with Margaret, looking confused for a moment, before the calm was finally broken.
“C-Cannelloni!”
“General?!”
The cooks voice sounded a bit deeper, than Sam remembered when the general heard the former Wrath assistant cooks voice for the last time. Before he could react any further, he suddenly felt how there was a tight feeling around his chest, not, as in the first moment he thought that he had a heart attack out of surprise, but rather because Cannelloni was giving the white rabbit a strong hug, lifting the smaller of the two up into the air.
“It’s you, it’s really you! I thought I would never see you again General!”
“It’s good to see you-oof, too Cannelloni, but please, put me down, people are staring.”
Looking around, even though the cook was wearing a soup can around his head, Sam could feel how Cannelloni was embarrassed about the situation now, scratching behind his back nervously. All the guests had stopped eating, looking at the two, not annoyed but rather as if they saw a reunion scene in an old movie hearing a few “Awws” in the process.
“How about, we go into the kitchen, be my guest, general.”
Taking the short moment, Sam used it to look at the former assistant cook of the Wrath, instead of the purple uniform he was used to see him wear, he now had a plain white cooking uniform with black buttons and a wine-red apron around his waist. He looked, healthier than the last time he remembered seeing him, he didn’t like to think about that day because Cannelloni was doing bad back then, but it looked like, as if he was doing better, than he did when he was working for the Wrath.
He was happy for Cannelloni, genuinely glad that he was doing better.
“I am going to work on the food, but please, feel free to talk to me General, it has been some time.”
Thinking about what to say, Marsha was for a moment, sticking her head trough the kitchen door, grinning as she saw the two.
“Aww, I didn’t know you two had history together, I am going to leave you alone for a moment so you can catch up.”
“Thank you, Marsha, and…thank you for convincing me to step out of the kitchen, I owe you a free meal.”
“It’s nothing Giordano, really, but I appreciate the offer.”
Cannelloni, whose real name was Giordano Castellani, was stirring at a pot, adding a few leaves and spices into, what Sam assumed was a stew. He let out a sigh, he was glad to see him, the rabbit really was, but he was reminded how the day ended, when he saw the assistant cook for the last time. He was not sure how to start the conversation but thought that maybe it was for the best to rip off the band aid.
“So, what happened after, you where, constrained to leave?”
Taking a bunch of parsley, the man with the soup can on his hat cut it into small and even pieces.
“I, can’t remember much, given that the Surgeon sedated me, and I had a concussion, but I was told that I got thrown out at the Medics headquarters, who found me, fixated on a stretcher, in bad shape and delirious.”
“Oh…”
“But they pepped me up again, I am very thankful for all the doctors and therapists who helped me there, it took time, but they all believed and where kind to me. I wouldn’t have managed it without them.”
Putting a bit of the cut parsley into the pot with the stew, he now concentrated in frying a few slices of bacon in a frying pan before adding three eggs in a separate one.
“Listen, Giordano, I’m sor-“
Turning around the cook now held a spatula in his right hand, pointing directly at the rabbit.
“No and no, I won’t allow you to feel sorry for something that was not your fault. I should be sorry for having you knocked out cold that day.”
“It was an accident Cannelloni!”
“I know, but still, to be honest, I am glad that you didn’t die that day, even if only because you flew directly into that journalist.”
Turning around the cook was now removing both, the eggs and ham from the pans, letting them carefully glide on a plate, before adding a few toasted bread slices, and then adding some spices.
“Yeah, if Blaise Owens wouldn’t have opened that window in time…well, they were unconscious, which is also why they didn’t know where you ended up. No one knew were you where, to think, you were working at the Doo-Wop diner all this time.”
Cannelloni was carrying the plate to a separate metal table, ringing a small silver desk bell.
“Order Nr.32 is ready.”
Marsha quickly stepped in to take it and as soon vanished.
“Maybe it was for the best General, with me, remembering my past, the incident and, how I was threatened, maybe fate wanted it, to take a while before you found me.”
Taking four pieces of sliced bread, he spread butter on them followed by him adding cheddar cheese before putting them in a new, pre-heated pan.
Sam wasn’t sure what to say, but he was glad to hear that Cannelloni was doing better, and that he apparently remembered his past, but thought, it was not his right to ask about it, if Giordano wanted to talk about it, he would do so by himself.
“General, how are Mellow and Ms.Cinnamon?”
With how melancholic Giordano has said Nutmegs last name, it caused the pang of guilt that hit Sams heart, to hurt even more, how was he going to tell the former assistant cook?
“Mellow is doing fine, I think, you know how they are, more quiet and reserved, searching for some dreams to walk into. But Nutmeg-“
The cook took the finished grilled cheese sandwiches, cutting both diagonally in half, putting two of the four halves on separate plates, before adding a medium sized bowl of cocktail sauce on each plate, carrying them and ringing the bell again.
“Order Nr.30 is ready!”
Instead of returning to work on some other dish, Giordano Castellani stared into the pot, signalizing the general to continue, who looked down at the floor.
“She’s…she’s doing bad Cannelloni, she speaks with barley anyone anymore, except me and Mellow. Her relationship with the Commander is chilly and, don’t get me started with the Surgeon, oh she absolutely hates his mechanic guts for what he did to you. Most of the time she’s in the canteen kitchen, working, if not there, she remains in her room.”
His red eyes looked at Giordano, whose hands clutched at the handle of one of the kitchens ovens, breathing in and out heavy, before his, from the can slightly muffled voice rose.
“I shouldn’t have allowed it to let it get this far, I-I should have left before it was too late.”
“What?! No, Cannelloni, you needed help and instead, it led to the incident. The one you should blame are those soldiers who caused it, Commander Grizzly who encouraged the whole situation and-“
More involuntarily the general touched the back of his head.
“-the Surgeon, for treating you the way he did.”
Nutmeg had told him when he recovered, how the Surgeon claimed that “for the better of the Wrath”, Cannelloni had to leave, how the Surgeon was fixating him personally with belts on a stretcher, before sending the injured and sedated assistant cook away to the Medics.
Taking a soup spoon, Giordano tasted the stew, adding some more spices before stirring the pot with a wooden cooking spoon whilst letting out a sigh.
“I-I try to understand it that he couldn’t help me, maybe the Surgeon was in a bad place and shape at the moment-“
Adding some more pepper, he took another taste from the stew, nodding as he now took a soup ladle to fill four bowls with stew before putting the ladle into the pot again.
“-however, that he declared me as “unemployable”, that is something I can’t forgive him yet…maybe never. Do you know, how it feels, how it hurts to be declared by someone you trusted as “unfit for work”. I was scared, really scared that I would never be able to work again for a single day in my life. I loved working as an assistant cook, but I no longer could-“
He was adding now a bit more of the cut parsley into the freshly steaming bowl, its flavour rising into the generals nose where it remained for a while.
“Order 36 is ready!”
Cannelloni turned around to look at Sam, and even if his face was hidden behind the can, he thought the cook was smiling a bit.
“-but the Medics did not give up on me, when I felt scared, lost, and confused they helped me to get through it. They allowed me to work again by letting me cook in their canteen, they encouraged me to take the job here at the Doo-Wop diner, and honestly General, I hope this doesn’t sound insulting, but I like it much better here than at the Wrath.”
Remembering the constant food fights and uprisings of the Wrath staff that the assistant cook had to clean with Nutmeg, Sam couldn’t really blame Giordano from thinking that way.
“No insult taken; I understand.”
Going to the fridge Cannelloni took a packet of pasteurized milk, filling half of its content into a yellow mixing bowl before adding some chocolate sauce into it, that he squeezed from a bottle. Taking a wire whip from a magnetic surface where other cooking tools stuck on, he began to whisk the two ingredients together.
“They helped me remember my past, and I remembered that, even if it hurt what I had witnessed, that I tried my best to prevent it. It still pains me to think, of the many lives I was not able to save, with my, my parents probably being among them, and the oath I couldn’t keep, but I know that I did everything that was in my power.”
The chocolate-milk mix started to foam, but the cook continued to whisk the fluid, even more intense. Sam stomach turned when he heard the voice of Cannelloni, how hurt it sounded for a moment.
“But I have to move on, I am now in the present, no longer in the past. I will always remember, where I came from, but now, this city, this world, is where I live now, what I call my home.”
Sam was a bit confused about the choice of words Giordano used but decided not to ask what he meant exactly.
Filling the brown liquid into two tall glasses, the cook now took out a can of spray cream and a glass of cocktail cherries. Carefully he put on each glass a hood of whipped cream, then placing a cherry on top and garnishing it with cocoa and chocolate flakes, before going to a cupboard, taking a bag of marshmallows, and placing two on each glass. Finally, he took two long-handled spoons and plastic straws, sticking them into the chocolate milkshakes, pressing one of the glasses into the generals hand, giving Sam a smile in the process before giving a slight bow towards him.
“E ora, buon appetito generale!”
Sam had to admit, he wasn’t exactly sure what Giordano had just said to him but believed that it was something similar to “Enjoy your milkshake”. Taking a quick first sip trough, the straw, a flood of sweetness was taking over his mouth, the chocolate flavour causing a flavour explosion that dazzled him for a moment.
“Oh wow, these tastes, really good, it’s neither too much chocolate or milk, it’s the perfect combination.”
“I appreciate your compliment General.”
“Cannelloni, you know you can call me Sam, right?”
Chewing currently on one of the marshmallows, the cook swallowed it down before responding.
“Sure I can, but as much as I am Cannelloni to you, you are for me the General, and Ms.Cinnamon is the Ma’am. Speaking of her….”
Sam watched, as he drank more of the chocolate milkshake trough the straw, as Cannelloni was opening one of the upper cupboards, taking out what appeared to be a coffee can, opening it he took out a letter, before returning to Sam, placing it next to the general.
“-could you, bring this letter to her, discretely please, I, don’t want that too many people know I am here, I think some of the Wrath staff has not forgiven me, yet for what I have caused.”
A part of Sam wanted to tell Cannelloni, that it wasn’t his fault, but he did not want to put stress on the cook or make him more uncomfortable.
“I will bring it to her, I promise, and I know she will appreciate it hearing from you.”
“Thank you General.”
Having finished drinking his milkshake, Sam put the glass back on the table, having saved the cherry until the end, he put it into his mouth before biting on it.
“If I may ask you, before you have to leave, may I give you another hug?”
The tall cook stood in front of him, awaiting his response and Sam couldn’t say no to Cannellonis request, giving him a nod of approval.
“I just hope you aren’t bothered by the soup can.”
Maybe it wasn’t his place to ask, but curiosity overcame the general, and so he asked something he had wondered some time ago, back then when Cannelloni was still working for the Wrath.
“Why are you wearing it anyways?”
“Oh, you know, Morris, the Wrath recruiter? They told me I should wear it to hide my face, they said it was better that way, so I did.”
“Morris that-, Cannelloni, they probably meant that as a joke and not to be taken seriously.”
“Oh, so, would it be alright with you if I take off the can, but be warned, the medics said that what lies behind it, is an anomaly.”
“I am sure it will be fine, if you feel comfortable removing it, please, you don’t have to force yourself.”
Taking a few deep breathes, Giordano Castellani started to pull on the soup can around his head, slowly pulling it up, Sam could hear how the cook’s hair was brushing against the metal, looking with suspense as Cannelloni removed the can, finally, placing it on the table next to him. Sam was left speechless, but not scared, it probably helped that he knew Cannelloni because maybe if not, he would have reacted differently, much differently.
However, what other thought he had, it was taken over as Cannelloni gave him a hug, pressing the general closely to him as Giordanos eyes, for the first time without a can on his head, looked directly into the rabbits.
“I am so, so glad, to have met you again General.”
Despite the many questions he had now, and how he owned Bruno Capello now a proper apology for laughing about his theories, he embraced the hug of Giordano Castellani, telling himself not to tell anyone about how he looked, behind the large soup can.
“Me too, Cannelloni, me too.”

Would Canelloni get along with Grem? (@pan-fried-autism)
Greetings Anon ^^
Oh absolutely, he really likes her, I am not sure how much interaction Giordano had with Grem when he was still part of the Wrath, but he does meet her occasionally at the Doo-Wop diner.
Similar to Kathrina, he would say to Nikola that he kind of expected him to remain alone for the rest of his life (not in a negative way, but Giordano believed that Nikolai just, preferred to be alone) but he is glad that Nikolai found someone special in his life and says the two are a good match.
He can see how they both love each other in their own way and it makes Giordano happy, that they are happy. He always makes sure to cook for Grem and Nikolai a special dinner when they visit him.
I think he likes to tease Grem a bit about the bread basket, however not in a mean-spirited way, but in a jesting one.
Yours sincerely
Bowler
