#Ghoulfriends Forever

I'm like halfway through the first Ghoulfriends book and main three are so annoying. I'm hoping it's like a character flaw thing, where they'll recognize it and get better over the course of the series, but oof. Gitty did these ghouls so wrong.

They're beefing with Cleo for no reason...Venus flipped out on her out of nowhere (in the middle of class, unprovoked!!) for using paper bags and then sprayed her with hypno pollen, meanwhile Rochelle, who is in her own relationship, is hardcore flirting with her man!!! I wish the author had been more original when it came to giving them a "frenemy" there are so many options aside from Cleo! (Honestly Operetta would have been an interesting choice, but whatever)

Robecca's characterization is the most tolerable, but she's incredibly rambly, and the author decided to give her a bad sense of time for...reasons. And despite being British, she uses oddly Southern phrases while talking...its super strange. With Venus and Rochelle, I can see where her mind went with writing their characters, but Robecca honestly seems so opposite to her canon personality.

And her backstory was kinda mangled too. It's acknowledged that she was disassembled, and recently reassembled, and even that she previously lived with Mrs. Kindergrubber, but she's treated like a brand new student. No acknowledgement that it was Ghoulia who put her back together!

I understand giving the characters a fresh take, but it would have been pretty simple to integrate the actual canon. Robecca and Rochelle were introduced in the same movie, they were new to Monster High, just not new to all of the characters.

They’re perfect compliments of each other. Sunny is bright and energetic and extroverted. Mist is quiet and cold and straightforward. Sunshine was an entertainer for the Lords of Hell and Mist lived a solitary life as a deep sea water ghoul. Now they’re violently in love.

Mist was the one fell first. She’s familiar with attraction of course I mean her and Sunny have fallen together a few times in the famous ghoulette nights. But watching her from afar as she went about her day to day life made Mist feel something else. And she had no idea what it was. Actually at first she thought it was her heat cycle fucking up but then Ifrit laughed at her and told her what love is by explaining how he feels about Zeph. Mist found the story useless. But she couldn’t deny…she definitely was feeling something towards Sunny.

God and when they finally get together after Mist eventually confesses they’re just guh. Mist is even more of a shark than Rain like. She has killed Siblings who have hurt Sunny’s feelings before and she will happily do it again. Mind you harming the Siblings is an offense that will get a ghoul sent back to the Pits without hesitation.

And ohhhh they just help each other so much like. Mist is able to calm Sunny’s racing mind when she convinces herself she’s nothing but a joke and she has no worth outside of making people laugh. Sunny helps Mist be more open and sociable while still listening to her when she says it’s time to go. Mist is just about the only person Sunny can sit in silence without doing anything. Just existing.

I just really really really like my sun and moon ghoulfriends.

Monster High “Ghoulfriends Forever” Book Review

Ciao lovelies! Today I have for you all a book review! The book I will be reviewing is “Ghoulfriends Forever” one of the Monster High books I like to read.

This book is part of the Ghoulfriends series and is book #1 in the series which includes 4 books and an activity book. It is written by Gitty Daneshvari, who is also the author of the School of Fear series (which I have not read yet).

I found this book in my local thrift shop for $1, but online on Amazon, it’s $10 for hardcover, $2 for paperback. This book is the first in a four part series.

This book’s plot focuses on 3 new students to Monster High, Venus McFlytrap, Rochelle Goyle, and Robecca Steam. These three ghouls just transferred to Monster High and become roommates. Not only are they new, but there is also a new teacher at Monster High, Miss Flapper, the dragon whisperer. But when the students of the school begin to appear brainwashed, it’s up to our three protagonists to save the school!

This book is two hundred and sixty pages long, in large font with some illustrations done by Darko Dordevic.

I also really like how the page numbers have hearts around them, I think that's really cute.

This book is at a reading level recommended to grades 6-8, but I found it was still enjoyable even for myself, a college student. The book even has some basic French vocabulary thanks to Rochelle Goyle’s Parisian heritage.

Overall, I found this book to be an enjoyable read. It does end on a cliffhanger, so reader beware, you will want to buy the next book! I have read the first two books in this series and am currently wanting to buy the next. Each book ends on a cliffhanger that leads to the next.

If I could change one thing about this book, I would let the 3 protagonists interact with the students of Monster High more. I enjoyed seeing a different perspective on classic ghouls like Frankie Stein and Draculaura.

This book gets a 5/5 rating from me. I would recommend this book if you are a fan of Monster High and want a new series to enjoy.

Has always experimented with fashion, even as a little ghoul. It was through fashion that Rochelle discovered that she was a girl. Her parents allowed her creative side flourish and she was allowed to express herself in any way she wanted growing up 🌼

Though she loved the Skulltimate Roller Derby, it definitely caused a bit of internal conflict. She wanted to play, but women weren't accepted in the sport. So for a long time (in order for her to play the sport she loved), she pretended to be a man and wore that heavy derby armor as cover. When she saw the ghouls at Monster High compete in the competition, Rochelle decided that enough was enough and that she needed to be true to herself

Garrott and Rochelle have been together for as long as she can remember. They were childhood sweethearts and they grew into a relationship as they got older. Even when Garrott disappeared, the bond that they had never faded. Rochelle and Garrott are still together to this day and they are happier than ever! 🥰🥰

Rochelle, Robecca, and Venus have attended multiple pride events over the years (with Rochelle as trans, Robecca as non-binary, and Venus as a lesbian). Everytime Monster High has a Pride celebration, the ghoulfriends are right in the front of the crowd, cheering and waving as many flags as they can possibly carry! Even their pets get in on it! Garrott comes too sometimes and he waves around his own pansexual flag for all to see. It's a great time all around!

Rochelle doesn't look back on her past self negatively. She finds her old self to be kinda disturbing, but she doesn't hate them. She knows that her old body got her to be where she is today and she will forever be grateful for that.

If Rochelle had to pick a song to describe her gender, she'd pick: Dereniére danse by Indila

Alright so I've just finished the Ghoulfriends forever book and yeah they never explain the Jackson situation but k'now what I need to accept that he is a minor character and that i need to get over myself BUT i have other things to say: first off

Why does Robecca has an icoffin ?( i do base myself of off the webisodes even if the monster high franchise is used to incoherences) but still it doesn't make sense, because it stops the "from another time" trope which makes her too close to Operetta ( another underated character )

Also the book is weirdly racist with those Romanian twin vampires for absolutely 0 reason. Like it's not a plot point, it's not relevant and again even for something that came out in 2012 that's super weird and racist

Which brings me to my third point : stop introducing useless characters like ,i don't care who Henry is, i can't remember his last name. Same with the three-headed guy. No purpose ( also i don't like the added adjectives to describe the bodies of female characters, especially during action)

I'm on my way to read the second one, to see if it got better( also because no matter the quality, I'm so monster high obsessed i take what I can😭)

After hugging Whisp through Lagoona's body, assuring her that they were alright, Gigi didn't hesitate finding Yusuke before colliding in his arms being still. It was a scary day for all ghost and spirit monsters who were suddenly kidnapped from their school and held hostage at Haunted High. And unfortunately, djinn counted as spirits so Gigi was gone for hours. It if wasn't for their ghoulfriends, they would still be trapped. They stayed under Yusuke's arms for a while to take in the comfort before looking up to him. The whole time fighting to get back, Gigi kept thinking about the demon the whole time, worried of never being able to see him again. They never wanted to feel that way EVER again...       ❝ So... what happens now? ❞

He was..searching for her EVERYWHERE around the school, figures the one day he decided to skip this damn Haunted Mansion themed highschool something like this would happen. A situation where his presence alone would have kept her safe. Whether it were monster jocks from grades above his own or equal, Yusuke made quick work of every one of them hoping he’d get some answers out of them. Various room within the school were left a mess, chairs and desks were broken and the walls all cracked because of the bodies Yusuke had thrown against them

Although he was fortunate enough that Gigi’s ragtag group of eccentric friends were there to save the day as if lie was just another AFTERNOON special. He parts his lips to speak up but Gigi had already wrapped their arms around his frame. Their grip rather tight which showcased the fear they must have held..but what in the hell was brave enough to take them anyway?? Hopefully after today Yusuke would have somewhat of a REPUTATION in the school..if anything it might keep Gigi safe if they were constantly seen around him.

But for now he was just happy to have her here again. ❝  𝐈 𝐭𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐲𝐚 𝐛𝐚𝐜𝐤.   ❞  Back to their home, back where it’s safe and from there he’d forever keep her safe. “I promise I’m not gonna let anythin’ like that happen again Gee.” It was scary to think..that he would never see her again. “Think’ I lost you hurt too much.”
