I feel like relating to a character is something so strangely complex and weird and only the person who relates to the character would understand why they relate to that character.

That was a really long sentence but I don't regret it. The reason I say this is because on MULTIPLE occasions people (in my real life) have told me that I am nothing like Lloyd. They tell me I'm more like Jay because I have anxiety. (Which, really, is such a bad argument because Lloyd totally has anxiety). They always say, "the only reason you could possibly relate to Lloyd is because he has daddy issues!". And yeah, that's part of it, it's not the only contributing factor.

It's like telling someone that they're not allowed to relate to Zane because he's a robot and they aren't. Like, of course that person isn't an actual metal robot, but there's deeper meaning to it than that.

I'm about to get personal so just... bear with me. I need to get this off my chest. I'll put a TW just in case: I talk about how lonely I was. Not that intense, but that topic could be triggering to some.

For me, specifically in Rise of the Snakes, episode 2, Home... young Hannah felt a connection to Lloyd that has not been broken since. And that is a lonely, nine year old Lloyd, looking at the Bounty, listening to the joy coming from the ninja. Wishing he could experience it. To feel it. To have a sense of home. Family.

Seven year old Hannah wanted a connection. She longed for a connection. Just like Lloyd. My "friends" left me out of everything. Year after year after year. It never stopped.

So seeing young Lloyd, longing for that familial bond... it just makes my heart shatter because really, I'm still looking for that kind of bond. I understand what he's feeling, because I feel it all the time. Any time I see a friend group out at dinner, or walking around the mall, part of me just wishes I had that. Because more often than not, I'm alone.

And obviously, there's more than that causing my strong connection to Lloyd, but to get into that would mean getting into religious trauma type stuff and I'm not that personal on the internet.

Honestly, I'm not sure what really prompted me to post this. Probably my poll. But if anyone has told you, "you're not actually that similar to [insert character]" just ignore them, because you know why you relate to that character, and you have every right to see yourself in them.
