My 10 favorite Bethesda games by ranking:

To state the obvious I like more Bethesda games than just these 10.

if you are looking for a good independent board game gift for the holidays:

ISLE OF CATS

(learning curve difficulty: 2/10, easy when crossfaded, i cried at how cute)

fit all the cats onto a boat to take them home (:

2+ players, some expansions in the form of more maps and cats but not extra core mechanics. easy to sit down and play in 40mins.

ROOT

(learning curve: 5/10, someone needs to be sober and have the ability to read the instructions to others)

the woodland creatures! you pick a faction of them and battle for control of the forest. many expansions (maps, mechanics, new factions, extra complexity) for followup gifts. 2-4 players.

I was once willing to miss a flight to play this game.

gametime 1-6 hours, competition rating depends on players but at least 2/5 (there is only one winner)

I haven’t started a kingdom hearts game ranking either, so here you go

Kingdom hearts: S-tier. Easy. C’mon. It’s so good. It still holds up so well. The atmosphere and vibes are second to none in the whole series. The exploration is only outdone by kh3, a game that came out SEVENTEEN YEARS LATER. The story is self contained which lets it be just as, if not more, narratively satisfying than every other numbered title. It’s absolutely phenomenal.

Chain of memories: I want to love this game so badly, I swear. The combat is genuinely great against bosses and on the last three floors, and the story is so good and the darkest in any kingdom hearts game (and it’s not even close tbh). But the first like TWENTY HOURS are so rough. Before you settle into a good deck the combat is… not awful, but not good. The Disney worlds are a slog. I could only get through them because I was skipping the cutscenes. They’re just the kh1 stories but rushed, and without NEARLY as much charm. B-tier. A great game hidden under a polarising combat system and god awful filler.

358/2 days: AGGRESSIVE CRYING. But no seriously A-tier. Phenomenal game held back by being on a ds. But when a game’s only flaw is “hardware limitations”, you know it’s a great game. But even then, the only other console I’d have it on is the ds. Days has some of the best uses of the dual screens I’ve ever seen, best of which is Roxas’ memories of Sora. When Roxas experiences events similar to Sora’s adventure and you see Sora’s memory on the bottom screen playing out in real time - there’s nothing like it. And there’s no real way to experience it other than on the ds (or 3DS (or wii u I GUESS)). The combat isn’t GREAT, but it’s still good! The story might just be the best in the franchise, the characters are some of my favourites, the panel system makes inventory management so damn fun, seeing the organisation operate is so cool, the Disney worlds are actually pretty good, GOD this game is so good. But I can’t give it an S because it is very clearly a ds game. I can’t put it into words but there’s clearly restrictions that do hamper the game like each weapon only having two combos (maybe a second route if you’re lucky). I WANT it to be S-tier but I had so much more fun with kh1 and am having so much more fun with kh2. It sadly just doesn’t compare. It deserved a full remake for the hd1.5 collection so it could reach its glory.

anyway 2 is probably going to be S-tier. The combat is SO FUCKING GOOD. Probably the lowest or second lowest in S-tier, due to the Disney worlds, but still. Absolutely phenomenal so far.

I have played all of the fps fallout games for several hundred hours on console this is my experience as a CONSOLE PLAYER SO MODS ARE NOT A FACTOR!! And here is my ranking of them.

Fallout 3, it was my first fallout game so it’s gonna have a special place in my heart.

Fallout 76, I’ve had more fun with this one than almost all of the others, in what other game can I moon jump towards a 3 headed wendigo in full power armor and smack it in the face with a wiffle bat while my friend watches?

Fallout new Vegas, objectively it’s the best of the 4 games here, but I don’t care it doesn’t have the place in my heart that 3 has and I’ve had more fun with 76.

Fallout 4 I just didn’t really like this one nearly as much, the changes to the leveling up system, how rads effect you, the way vats feels. There’s so much about 4 that just doesn’t feel right. The best thing it did was the overhaul to power armor except for fusion cores but 76 solved that issue.

To make this ranking, all series titles in Other Media were copy-pasted to Google Sheets, rearranged according to number of fanworks, and then manually filtered since not all podcasts were marked as such.

The numbers under each rank indicate how much they rose/fell in the rankings based on last year's (Nov. 24, 2023) rankings, which can be found here. NEW means it's their first time entering in the top 20. The gray numbers in parenthesis indicate how much fanworks it gained since last year.

The data for this year and last year's rankings were taken while logged in, so lcoked fanworks are included in the count.

A few web series like Critical Role and Dimensions 20 released audio-only versions of their works too, but I left them out since they were listed was a web series on ao3 and more known as one too.

All nonfiction podcasts have also been excluded (Not that there were many), because with RPFs, it’s hard to tell if the fic in question is just based on the podcast or because of the things the person has done outside of it.

Stella Firma ranks 21st in the rankings this year, dropping 5 places from last year. (Figured they deserve a special mention since The Magnus Protocol is technically under The Magnus Archives).
