Samsung vs Apple: Why Samsung is Better than Apple
The world of smartphones is dominated by two major players: Samsung and Apple. Both companies produce high-quality devices with cutting-edge features, but they cater to different user preferences. This blog explores why some users favor Samsung phones over Apple's iPhones.
It's important to note that before diving into the world of repairing these complex devices, consider a mobile repairing institute in Delhi like Hi-Tech Institute, an ISO and MSME certified institute with over 20 years of experience, can equip you with the skills to diagnose and repair both Samsung and Apple devices! Now, let's delve into the reasons why some users choose Samsung:
1. Android vs iOS: Openness and Customization
A key difference lies in the operating system. Samsung phones run on Android, an open-source platform that allows for greater customization. Android users can personalize their phones extensively, from launchers and themes to widgets and icon packs. This level of control appeals to users who enjoy tailoring their devices to their specific needs and preferences.
2. Hardware Innovation: Pushing the Boundaries
Samsung is known for its constant innovation in hardware. They've been at the forefront of features like foldable displays, high refresh rate screens, powerful processors, and multiple rear cameras. For users who prioritize cutting-edge technology and features, Samsung phones can be a compelling choice.
3. Wider Price Range: Options for Every Budget
Samsung offers a wider range of smartphones at various price points. This caters to users with different budgets. From the high-end Galaxy S series to the budget-friendly Galaxy A series, there's a Samsung phone for everyone. In contrast, Apple's iPhones tend to be positioned in the premium segment.
4. Expandable Storage: Avoiding Storage Woes
Many Samsung phones offer expandable storage via microSD cards. This allows users to easily increase storage capacity without having to upgrade their entire phone when they run out of space. For users who store a lot of photos, videos, or music on their phones, this flexibility is a major advantage.
5. Dual SIM Functionality: Staying Connected with Multiple Numbers
A feature often found in Samsung phones is dual SIM functionality. This allows users to have two separate phone numbers active on one device. This is particularly convenient for users who need to keep their personal and professional lives separate, or for those who travel frequently and want to use a local SIM card.
6. Headphone Jack: A Reliable Classic
While Apple removed the headphone jack from its iPhones several years ago, Samsung has continued to include it in most of its phones. This is a plus for users who still prefer wired headphones for listening to music or making calls.
7. Fast Charging Technology: Power Up Quickly
Samsung's fast charging technology allows users to recharge their phones quickly and efficiently. This is a major advantage for users who are on the go and need to get their phone back up and running quickly.
8. Integration with Samsung Ecosystem: A Connected Experience
For users who own other Samsung products like tablets, smartwatches, and laptops, Samsung phones offer a seamless integration experience. Users can easily connect their devices and share data or control them from one another.
The Final Word
The choice between Samsung and Apple ultimately comes down to personal preference. If you prioritize an open and customizable Android experience, cutting-edge hardware features, and a wider price range, Samsung might be the better fit for you. However, if you value a premium build quality, a user-friendly closed ecosystem, and seamless integration with Apple products, iPhones might be your preference. Regardless of your choice, remember that a mobile repairing course in Delhi from a reputable institute like Hi-Tech Institute can equip you with the skills to troubleshoot and repair both Samsung and Apple devices, opening doors to exciting career opportunities in the mobile repair industry.

Disney TVA Finale Ranking
For every Disney TVA series that features continuous plot/character development.
13. Milo Murphy's Law - Sphere and Loathing in Outer Space: Milo Murphy’s Law is a depressing failed experiment of a series. For its first season, it was a spiritual successor to its creators previous show, the episodic hit Phineas & Ferb, but with more of an overarching narrative that was incredibly silly but also had some legitimate heart to it. But that arc’s finale ended up being the second season’s premiere, where the main cast of Phineas & Ferb crossed over and totally stole the spotlight from the characters we’d actually been following. From that point on, the “Phineas & Ferb effect” never went away, leading to a jumbled mess of a second season arc involving aliens and relationship drama and Dr. Heinz Doofenshmirtz annoyingly inserted in at every turn that concluded in this underwhelming finale that was so clearly not intended to be the series finale when it was made. There’s no real closure nor satisfaction to anything, leaving viewers nothing but the show’s wasted potential to dwell on.
12. The Lion Guard - Return to the Pride Lands: After the final battle, we had two more episodes left in this series and they just feel so bland and perfunctory. There’s no real conflict left, no character arcs still in need of concluding, it really just boils down to connecting fully to The Lion King II: Simba’s Pride and explaining why we never saw nor heard of Kion during the events of that movie. I forgot this finale almost as soon as I saw it; that’s how weak it is.
11. Star vs. The Forces of Evil - Cleaved: Perhaps the most notorious of the finales on this list, “Cleaved” and the three episodes leading into it really feel like watching a train that had so much momentum behind it derail, crash, explode and burn. Everything from the pointlessly disjointed story, underwhelming endgame threat, out-of-nowhere character turns, waste of important characters, failure to connect enough to the show’s past, brushing aside the horrific implications of destroying magic, and the resolution that puts the show’s freshly hooked-up main ship above everything else come together to create a woefully unsatisfying conclusion. But hey, at least it is a firm conclusion, and one I’ll always remember for just how bad it is.
10. Big Hero 6 the Series - The Mascot Upshot: While this show got screwed over by executives big-time and this short, silly story being the finale is emblematic of that fact, it does accomplish exactly what it needed to: wrapping up all lingering story threads (the Noodle Burger Gang, the unexpected bond Hiro developed with Momakase, and eliminating the last trace of Obake’s evil from San Fransokyo) and leaving things on a feel-good note.
9. Wander Over Yonder - The End of the Galaxy: This is the most standard kind of “good” finale that a series could ask for when prematurely cut short. It’s got the highest stakes to date, the biggest personal conflicts for the protagonists to deal with, the main villain at their diabolical best, and an ending where the status quo is retained while also leaving a clear path forward for new developments which fans can imagine for themselves. It’s a shame that the series couldn’t continue beyond this point as was planned, but what we got was still solid.
8. The Ghost and Molly McGee - The End: No galaxy here, just the end of its story in a calm, mundane way where the stakes are purely emotional rather than physical. Despite that, it stands out as elevating the whole series to a higher level than it was at before due to the big reveal of Scratch’s true nature and the ultimate moral the story imparts on the viewer.
7. Sofia the First - Forever Royal: The plot of this finale is very weak. The whole Mystic Isles / Protector Sofia / Wicked Nine story arc felt half-baked to start with, and not enough had been done with Prisma / Vor to feel like her / their status as the Final Boss was earned. However, the characters make up for this. Given that Sofia the First has mostly been episodic throughout its run, you don’t quite realize how much Sofia and her family have grown until you reach the end. The things they accomplish along with the new things revealed about them elevate this finale beyond its flimsy story, with special mention going to my boy Cedric. Once you reach the end credits, you definitely feel like this show wrapped up very nicely.
6. Elena of Avalor - Coronation Day: While this finale has something of a rocky start, partially owing to the (presumably network-induced) wasted potential in how this final season’s arc progressed, once Elena and Ash Delgado have gotten trapped in the Spirit World and Esteban aligned himself with the Four Shades, things pick up and the quality stays high to the very end. The character development is on point, especially for protagonist Elena and antagonist Esteban, and the Four Shades end up selling the apocalyptic threat they pose, especially Cahu the Time Shade who gets away with some of the most horrific shit ever put on a show that airs on Disney Junior. And the ending where Elena is officially crowned Queen of Avalor is just perfect, capped off by a delightful surprise guest star appearance.
5. DuckTales - The Last Adventure: While it’s disappointing that Huey’s arc peters out halfway through in favor of Webby, some long-hanging elements are paid off in a shockingly underwhelming way, and this already long finale honestly needed even more time to fully flesh things out (ex: the resolution to the battle against the Phantom Blot, which as stands is totally off-screen), it’s counter-balanced by so much strong material and a shining heart, with the finale doing a fantastic job at tying the series together as a single, grand, three-act story.
4. Tangled the Series - Plus Est En Vous: There is very little to complain about with this finale. We get the full-on Sun and Moon-powered battle between Rapunzel and Cassandra that the series was building to, perfect cappers for the redemption arcs of Varian and King Edmund, the Big Bad Zhan Tiri having the last of her backstory filled in and then becoming an active threat in her demonic form, Eugene and the other side characters banding together to buy time for Corona’s survival, and Rapunzel getting to save the day alongside Cassandra to the point where she’s the one who cuts her own hair this time. The biggest quibble would have to be Cassandra’s turnaround and departure feeling rushed, but otherwise this was an above average conclusion to an above average TV show based on/continuing a movie.
3. The Owl House - Watching and Dreaming: Starting in “Thanks to Them” and continuing in “For the Future” before concluding in “Watching and Dreaming”, The Owl House’s finale really pulls out all the stops and makes the most of Disney having cut the series short. Every character gets their time to shine and wrap up their arcs in a satisfying way, every core theme of the show is driven home beautifully, and the action and animation is at its peak. Yes, there are problems due to the aforementioned executive meddling from Disney, particularly in how some questions are raised but either never fully answered or answered in too rushed a way to be impactful, but on the whole Dana Terrace and her crew pulled off an excellent ending.
2. Amphibia - The Hardest Thing: Starting in “The Beginning of the End” and continuing in “All In” before concluding in “The Hardest Thing”, this was a finale that I doubt anyone expected to be as amazing as it was. Amphibia started out as just a cute, fun little show about a teenage girl trapped in a world full of talking frogs, and concludes in the most epic, intriguing, philosophical and heartfelt way a story can possibly conclude in. I could bring up nitpicks like the Final Boss battle being ridiculously quick and perfunctory, or how Sasha’s conclusion is marred by her backstory episode getting left on the cutting room floor, but these things feel insignificant when compared to just how good and fulfilling the finale is overall.
1. Gravity Falls - Weirdmageddon: This three-part conclusion (or four-part, depending on which way you’re viewing it) is often cited as one of the best finales to any television show, animated or otherwise, and it’s not hard to see why. Everything just feels like it’s coming together here, everything the show has ever been and was always building to. It’s exciting, it’s funny, it’s scary, it’s thought-provoking, and by God is it emotional. The final end credits are some of the best, most downright perfect I have ever seen, making you really feel the worthiness of the experience that was this show. It’s certainly not being topped anytime soon.

Perhaps the greatest lesson throughout these last years is the drive of things to come into existence, yes the drive of things to come into being, to materialize into the world
It is almost as if they had an existence of their own, from a few concept drawings seemingly just to spend time into a full fledged development project spanning 8 years
And if you harness that drive, pursue those drawings where they lead you, you can become many things, even with the simplest of tools, a designer, an engineer and a conceptor
Without asking or expecting the recognition of these qualities, which become apparent to you as you fulfill those many drawings, as you learn from them, as you solve problems and create opportunities
Hundreds of millenniums from now BCS Legacy might find its true consecration of having been the stepping stone of an universal space transporter and industrial,
and still inspire curiosity and wonder in younger generations as to how it all started, their future in space in distant solar systems and far away galaxies, by designing and engineering a submarine
But things are not too different when we consider them, and in the reverse engineering of our floodwater platforms we can find a solution for re compressing the environment of a breached spaceship,
this time by injecting large volumes of compressed sealing air, containing polymer molecules into the hull
Thanks you for following, and for your continued interest in BCS
design notes continued: in retrospect given the sizeable area of these air collection platforms, but also essentially given that have implemented 7 repeaters in the OUT capacity, upgrading the fans of these platforms to a diameter of 30cm makes sense, and so the IN at these platforms doubles to become 8x1200m³ or 9600m³ or 4800m³ per platform, or 16800m³ incl 12 filters fans
or 21600m³ total capacity incl 4 main blowers
vs an OUT of 16800m³ incl 8 repeaters
this 4800m³ differential in favor of IN should provide us with an efficient solution to move and exchange the total volume of air of the ship
more air is called IN than pumped OUT, designing a system has to be supported by logic, ie it has to make sense however we look at it, in this instance processing OUT volumes takes more time than calling IN volumes, and so that is a check
CAES on paper is a success, to finish with how are we vs the total air volume of the ship and our previous estimates
Previous:
~12432m³ or 124 cycles or 168min or 2.48h
Air change at 40% per hour or 0.4 or ~115% of standard
Actual, split in 2 functions:
AC, air conditioning total volume in 99 cycles or 133min or 2.14h Air change at 47% per hour or 0.47 or ~135% of standard or 35 minutes less than previous estimate AF, air filtering, by setting HVAC OUT fans to a higher RPM total volume in 71 cycles or 97 min or 1.37hours Air change at 72% per hour or 0.72 or ~205% of standard
It is both unexpected and amazing that the ship would be able to exchange and enrich in oxygen its whole air volume in 1 hour and 37 minutes, and only made possibly by having adopted quality components by EBM Papst
Unlike navy ships the Cuba Libre equipage is composed of civilians, and unlike enlisted men who are willing to put up with submarine constraints, to make the Cuba Libre a success we have to make our equipage willing to spend extended amounts of time on board
Where air quality is a crucial item
The same applies to the space transport fleet that BCS entails, Bombardier as a space transporter has to stand out for the quality of passenger experience onboard

Last post for the year
Unless something incredibly amaze-balls and loosely art-related happens, I likely won't be blogging on the 24th and 31st.
So I'm ending this year's art-sharing posts with [dissolving] and [art vs artist 2023].
[dissolving] is one of those pieces where the idea was a lot better than both the execution and also the reality behind the idea. I thought it would be cool to show two little seltzer discs dissolving in a purple carbonated drink. To keep the issue short, probably too much happening. And yet I could've made it more explosive and less contained.
As for the art I chose for [art vs artist 2023]:
[mole lay taco] is a recent work I'm really proud of due to the vibrant colors and the stupid pun.
[elbaite shard] was 'very shine and mineral.' It was fun to blend greens, reds, and pinks and have it against a dark background. It was inspired by some things I saw at the Smithsonian during a prior week.
[cube dudette - ver. starry] Drawing this satisfied my galaxy fix and was a nice way to end designing for the [cube dude] series. Note that it will still be up for grabs in my Redbubble shop, even though I am working to shift shop fronts.
['cats'tom shortsord 2023] is a redraw of a derpy short sword I drew HELLA long ago. I'm talking back when I wrote my signature in one line and put an @ in the beginning of it! Anyhow, really satisfying redraw and more color pops.
[souls of the universe] was just cuteness overload. While I sorta question why I threw in two moons, I'm pretty sure it was to add a layer of absurdity: The moons are on opposite sides of the picture, yet they are more on the same wavelength than the two running around on alternate Earth trying to catch each other, heh.
[getting carried away] Alternate titles: Awakening, OH NO MY SHEEP ... A really silly painting. Also
Best part of the picture. XD
7. [shedding light on...] The lighthouse picture was another one of my favorites for this year. So much so that it's used on the homepage of my site. Rethinking the title a bit, but still unsure. It was meant to be another stupid pun, actually. My thought process when something like this: Water has hidden faces -> The hidden faces/forms kinda look like snakes -> Lighthouses cast/shed light on their surroundings... and snakes shed too! Haha......
8. [creek salad] Was my attempt to combine food and landscape. According to my past self, I also ate a salad prior to making the art. A shame I can't remember making or tasting said salad, though.
9. The initial plan was to take a new selfie of me gesturing to the rest of the art from the corner and being silly, but I was short on brain energy and found this picture from my personal social media instead.
#and that's a wrap#art compilation#art vs artist#2023#surreal art#cool art#i'm finally free#happy holidays#stay warm#good night

supplemental to taking of planet five! how about that EDAs vs VNAs theory of the time war huh (transcript below the cut)
[Begin transcript:
Annexe
THE PREDATORS OF THE MULTIVERSE
Extracts from a cosmobiology report by Simon Bucher-Jones
The theoretical argument goes like this. The end state of an open (1) universe will, given absolutely infinite past time, extend to infinity. (2) Our universe is open. (3) Therefore at some future point it will expand to infinity. An infinitely expanded universe will exhibit the following characteristics: zero local Einsteinian space-time curvature (4), and little, if any, matter over vast ranges of space-times. (5)
Such an area of space-time can be regarded mathematically as a domain of De Sitter space. (6) An empty De Sitter space can be shown to lead without additional causal interaction to the creation of a further universe similar to our own. (7) Thus as our universe approaches heat death, it will naturally 'give birth' to one, or more, successor universes.
As the characteristics required for the formation of a quasi-flat De Sitter domain will be reached within a merely large (but not infinite) time, it is possible that this process has in fact occurred, and that our universe is itself a 'successor' universe to an older open structure. (8) Further, if it has occurred once, it may well have occurred multiple times and a number (either large or infinite) of universes have come into existence after our own. Those universes will themselves expand, either to end as open universes, eventually budding themselves, or as failed closed universes opening out from only to 'fall back' to the surface of the original space-time. It should be noted that these universes are not the quantum universes predicted by the Many Worlds Interpretation of of Quantum Mechanics. (9) It is therefore theoretically possible that their existence could be detected or that they could be contacted. It is in this theoretical 'metaverse' of universes that Swimmers, in their essence, predator universes, exist.
The approach of a Swimmer to a 'normal' universe could exert a force analogous to gravity between the universes accelerating its expansion in the way detected by Pearlmutter & Schmidt (see footnote 3). We may, therefore, conclude that our space-time may shortly (10) impact another.
So constituted that the gravitational fields of the totality of its mass and energy will not suffice to cause it to collapse inwards after reaching after reaching the limits of expansion. A closed universe, one that does so collapse, is mathematically equivalent to a very large black hole.
'"Given an infinite past prior to P* ...the past light cone of P will already contain an open bubble universe that has already expanded to infinity.' Barrow and Tipler The Anthropic Cosmological Structure, commentary by William Laig Craig The Caused Beginning of the Universe.
Perlmutter & Schmidt's work at the Lawrence Berkley National Laboratory in California, and the Strombo and Siding Spring Observatory in Australia respectively, confirmed in 1998 that the universe's expansion is not only not slowing, but has in fact speeded up since 15% since the universe was half its current age. The reasons for this expansion are not yet known - the term 'quantum gravity' has been tagged to a supposed accelerating force, but its nature is undetermined. However the theory proposed above predicts and offers an explanation for this effect - namely an inter-universal force analogous to gravity. Perlmutter & Schmidt's findings therefore support (do not falsify) this paper.
Imagine a balloon with an infinite diameter, the apparent curvature of its surface would tend to zero.
There are substantial areas of starless space: so called 'voids' which are surrounded by walls or strings of galaxies. These have been detected by the Hubble Deep Field Programme. While voids may of course be dark matter dense, they may already display the characteristics sought above, and if they do not do so now, the combined processes of expansion and [possible] protonic decay will certainly work to produce such 'real voids' over an infinite (or sufficiently large) timescale.
De Sitter space is a theoretical geometric space used in mathematics, it has whatever number of dimensions (n) are necessary for the solution of any particular problem. This step is frankly speculative, however it appears to me to be assumed in F Tipler 'Causality Violation in Asymptotically Flat Space-limes' Physical Review 37 (1976): 979.
Gott, for example, theorises that our universe arises in a way analogous to vacuum fluctuations in 'empty' space-time. J R Gott. 'Creation of Open Universes from Dc Sitter Space', Nature 295 (1982), 304-7.
The question as to whether an absolutely infinite time can end is a moot one, many philosophers of mathematics have denied that an absolutely infinite amount of time could exist in the past, since if it did we would never have reached the present. However as a merely large period will produce nearly the same degree of flatness of curvature and absence of matter as an infinite period it is not in fact necessary to demonstrate that this has in fact happened. That said, I consider that the existence of apparent singularity discontinuities at the creation points of each universe would have the effect of making it possible for finite periods of time to he defined defined within each universe, while the ongoing time of the original, or Ur universe, could be regarded as infinite (or larger) that than within any one successor universe.
According to which, every action which can be depicted as a mixed state in Quantum Mechanics results not just in the one real result which we see when the mixed state ceases to be a probability field and becomes measurable upon observation, but in every possible result, the others merely happening in different universes. The Copenhagen Interpretation denies the 'real' existence of such universes and no theoretical methodology exists by which they could be detected.
Within the next billion or so years.

Galaxy Note 8 vs Galaxy Note 7
Samsung Galaxy Note 8 vs Galaxy Note 7
After today’s much-anticipated launch of the Samsung’s new Galaxy Note 8, the company hopes to rebuild consumer confidence and reinvigorate the Note series. Until last year, the Galaxy Note series was amongst the top flagship devices but, the recall of the Galaxy Note 7 due to battery issues had a significant impact on sales and consumer perception. So, from the Galaxy Note 7 to the Galaxy Note 8, what has changed?
The new standout feature – Dual-lens Camera
Unlike its predecessor, the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 is equipped with a horizontally placed two 12-megapixel cameras at the back with a fingerprint scanner right next to it. Many criticized the odd placement of the fingerprint sensor at the back when the Galaxy S8 was launched, and nothing has changed on this front in the Galaxy Note 8.
The 12MP primary camera has a wide-angle lens with an f/1.7 aperture whereas the secondary 12MP camera has a telephoto lens with an f/2.4 aperture. The dual-camera setup is capable of 2X lossless zoom and other features such as Bokeh effect and selective focus for background blurring. The rear camera setup records video in 4K at 30 FPS and features phase detection autofocus, dual optical image stabilization (an industry first, claimed by Samsung) and an LED flash. On the front is an 8MP camera with an f/1.7 aperture which captures 4K videos at 30 FPS whereas, the Galaxy Note 7 had a 5MP front camera with 1920×1080 full HD video recording at 30fps.
Another widely anticipated feature is the new and improved S-Pen.

Live Message
Similar to the Note 7 stylus, the new S Pen is water resistant and has more levels of pressure sensitivity. The latest S-Pen features include capability of taking notes up to 100 pages in the Screen Off Memo mode, a live messages which are saved as GIFs and the user can also hand-write a message or picture with the S Pen. Also, the translate feature, introduced on the Note 7, is making a come back in this year’s Note 8. To translate a sentence, a user has to simply highlight the text and the S Pen will instantly translate the sentence into 71 languages.
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});
On the design front, both the Galaxy Note 8 and the Note 7 feature Corning Gorilla Glass 5 panels on the front and the back. Samsung is offering an almost all-screen front with a metal and glass body design along with a built-in stylus. The smartphone sports a 6.3 inch 2960 x 1440 px Super AMOLED display with curved edges. With an 83.1% screen-to-body ratio and almost bezel-less design (compared to the Note 7), Samsung is aiming to rival other similar flagship devices.
Coming to what’s under the hood, the newly launched Galaxy Note 8 runs Android 7.1.2 Nougat with a promised update to 8.0 Oreo in near future.
Galaxy Note 7
As is with all Samsung flagship devices, the Galaxy Note8 will ship with two different chipsets, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835, 2.45 GHz octa-core processor with Adreno 540 GPU for USA and China, and the Exynos 8895, 2.3GHz Quad-Core (Custom CPU) + 1.7GHz Quad-Core (Cortex-A53) with Mali-G71 MP20 for the remaining markets. The device will have 6GB RAM and onboard storage options of 64GB/128Gb/256GB which will be expandable via microSD card up to 256GB.
Powered by a 3,300 mAh battery with QuickCharge 2.0 via USB Type C port and the rear glass panel allows the Galaxy Note 8 to support wireless charging. Thanks to Galaxy Note 7’s 3500mAh faulty batteries, Samsung has opted for a slightly smaller battery for its new flagship.
For added security, Samsung is offering plenty of biometric security options to choose from, such as iris scanner and facial recognition, apart from a fingerprint scanner. The Galaxy Note 7 was amongst the first of Samsung smartphone to feature iris scanner for unlocking the device.
The smartphone will be available in four colour variants (two of which were leaked ahead of its launch)– Midnight Black, Orchid Gray, Deep Sea Blue and Maple Gold.
In term’s of how the Galaxy Note 8 will stack up against it’s recalled sibling, the Galaxy Note 7, here’s a little something to help you figure out.

[Daily] Program Schedule
~Year 2499 X Month X Day [Space Newspaper] Spacestation Broadcasting Column Clipping ~
At standard time 6 a.m., the dance troupe attacked the Spaceport, right after the special report team from Channel 5 just finished broadcasting "Good Morning Ulala" at 5:45. They rushed to the scene to fight off the dance troupe. It has been questioned as to why there was no other special report team from other stations available (even Channel 01 didn't report the incident) and why only Channel 5 managed to report.
The reason was that the dance troupe's leader, Purge, true plan of the attack was to absorb the dance energy of Ulala, and a chain of incidents had been set in motion to lure Ulala to the station. Had the authorities been aware of real intentions, perhaps the situation could've been resolved sooner. However, everything went according to Purge's plans, that is until near the end of the "Purge TV Show." The delay of promptly taking action against his plans is unfortunate.

Ships of Doctor Who
The Doctor has encountered many species, some greater threats than others in the wide scheme of things...
Name: Cybermen Cube Size: 9 DC: 8,000 Toughness: 3 Crew: 5 Acceleration: 1 Accuracy: 7Armor Value (Hull): 190 Shield Armor/DC: 150/1000 (Adaptive—adds 50 AV and 500 DC after taking (d10/3) hits, regenerates 250 per turn)Handling: 1Range: Inter-StellarMax Speed: N/A Additional Builds: Emergency Measures: Basic Guns: 1x Cutting Beam (Dial a Yield, up to 300 Beam), Magnetic Guided Charge (400 AP 2, x2 After Armor), Tractor Beam (Grapples Target, resisted by Piloting or Engineering vs. Attack roll), Shield Disruptor/neutralizer (300 Damage, x3 to Shields) Regeneration (500 per Turn) FTL Capacity: Warp 5 Self Sufficient Point Value: NA Point Cost: No. Cybermen Vessels are massive cubes 3km per side. They are run by the collective intelligence of the Cyber-Leader heading the ship. As such, this prevents individual consciousnesses from running the ship outside of direct hacking. Though the Cubes are one of the most powerful ships in the galaxy, able to take on Dholes on somewhat even footing, their high production costs and the fact that the Cybermen just don't give a damn about galactic politics leaves the Goa'uld as the "Dominant" force in the Galaxy. It's generally agreed, though, that if the Cybermen were to give a damn, little could stop them.
Name: Dalek Motivation: EXTERMINATE! Critter Type: Alien Attributes: Str 7, Dex 2, Con 7, Int 6, Per 6, Will 6 Ability Scores: Muscle 20, Combat 20, Brains 20, Damage Capacity: 200 (15LP) Drama Points: 0-5 Special Abilities: Armor Value 30 (ignores energy-based armor reduction), Energy Shield (AV 30, DC 150, regenerates to full each turn, if active when touched, deals 30 damage per turn (fire), Immune to damage multipliers), (Weakness: Polycarbide, Dalek Creature has 15 LP), Reduced Damage (Damage Multipliers as an Object), Iron Mind, Deranged Delusions (Daleks are the supreme beings in the universe, all inferior life forms must be exterminated), Increased Damage Capacity, Kardashev Type 3 (High) Civilization Member Name - Score - Damage - Notes Sucker - 20 - 19 - Bash Dalek Gun - 20 - Varies - By Ability (Stun) - 20 - 15 - Bash, Causes Paralysis (Standard) - 20 - 35 - Plasma, Ignores non-shield armor (flame thrower) - 20 - 20 - Fire, Spreads in cone. Once they were the greatest threat in the universe. Then they disappeared from time and space. Few know the truth of the matter, but once they disappeared, the universe was forever changed. These stats represent a Dalek just before the Time War when they threatened every species in the cosmos. Well before the time war, they were still a threat as just a single Dalek was effectively a small tank/fighter craft/attack helicopter/all-purpose armored vehicle on the battlefield. Equipment-wise, the stats remain the same, but they are less likely to pull out horrendous super weapons to utterly exterminate their foes when they are not blasting their enemies one by one. More information on the Daleks can be found in a popular interstellar guide, linked here.
Name: Dalek Mother Ship Size: 5 DC: 3300 Toughness: 6 Crew: 6 Acceleration: 6 Accuracy: 7 Armor Value (Hull): 225 Shield Armor/DC: 300/7,500 Handling: 5 Range: Inter-Stellar Max Speed: 1200mph Additional Builds: Emergency Measures: Advanced Guns: 8 x Turret Mounted Dalek Ray (1000 Plasma); 4 x Dalek Missile (1200 Plasma, 100m Radius), 1 x Dimensional Eater: NA, 300m Radius FTL Capacity: Time Drive Stealth Self Sufficient Point Value: HAHAHAHAHA! Point Cost: No.
Name: Dalek Attack Ship Size: 3 DC: 1100 Toughness: 6 Crew: 6 Acceleration: 6 Accuracy: 7 Armor Value (Hull): 175 (5) Shield Armor/DC: 300/2000 (4) Handling: 5 Range: Inter-Stellar Max Speed: 1200mph Additional Builds: Emergency Measures: Advanced Guns: 4 x Turret Mounted Dalek Ray (1000 Plasma), 2 x Dalek Missile ports (1200 Plasma, 100m Radius) FTL Capacity: Time Drive Stealth (10) Self Sufficient Point Value: HAHAHAHAHA! Point Cost: No. Dalek vessels are classic 1950s flying saucers with small spheres on the bottom of their vessels. These spheres house their turreted energy weapons whilst their missile weapons are housed on the rim of the saucer. The only difference between the two vessels is their size, the number of armaments, and the use of Dimensional Weaponry on their motherships. These stats represent the Time War/Just Before the Time War Daleks and their ships. For your 'old school' Daleks, some alterations are needed. The shields of both the ships are dropped to 3 levels. The weapon power is halved as well, the dimension eater is also lost. The chassis of the Dalek loses the shields and the "Touch Death" ability. There are also "Special Weapons Daleks" whose main cannon deals 80 damage as a base for its focused blast.
Name: Sontaran Fighter Size: 0 DC: 240 Toughness: 0 Crew: (Pilot) Acceleration: 5 Accuracy: 4 Armor Value (Hull): 100 Shield DC: 100 AV/200DC Handling: 5 Range: Inter-Stellar Max Speed: 600 Additional Builds: Reduced Armor Emergency Measures: None Extra Space: 0 FTL Capacity: Hyperspace Window (Mid Tier) Other Equipment: Intellect 4, Medical Facilities 3 Weapons: 3 Mounted Blasters (150 Plasma Damage) These crafts are small spheres used by an individual Sontaran either as a fighter or as a scout.
Name: Sontaran Flag Ship Size: 7 DC: 3600 Toughness: 1 Crew: (Usually level 4) Acceleration: 3 Accuracy: 6 Armor Value
(Hull): 156 (2) Shield Armor/DC: 150/6000 Handling: -4 Range: Inter-Stellar Max Speed: 200mph (Atmosphere) Additional Builds: Emergency Measures: Advanced Escape Pods, Fire Suppression SystemExtra Space: 3FTL Capacity: Hyperspace (Mid Tier) Guns: 1 Convergence Beam (800 Plasma), 12 Turret Mounted Turbolasers (200 Plasma), 27 light turret lasers (150 Plasma) Docking Bay: Size 3 Ships, usually 30 Fighters/Scouts. Extra: Transporter This craft is rarely seen but quite feared for the masterminds within.

Luke and Leia vs the Galaxy
@silvereddaye
.Our favourite Space Twins against the Empire with varying degrees of success.
1. Legacy ---myrlendi (thehistorygeek)
Three months after the Battle of Endor, Luke Skywalker goes in search of a rumoured Jedi temple in a secluded part of the Mid Rim. He finds within the temple nothing but a strange artifact, which unexpectedly brings him much closer to the Jedi of old than he ever thought he would be.
When Luke fails to return from his mission, Leia goes after him, retracing his steps to the ancient temple — and to the past, to the time of the Clone Wars and the waning years of the Old Republic. Under suspicion by the Jedi Order, the twins struggle to find a way back to their own time while trying to keep their knowledge of the future from affecting the past.
This, however, turns out to not be as simple as it seems.

2. Skywalker Family Values- Ariel_Sojourner
Camp Chippewa is proud to be the Empire’s foremost camp resort for privileged young adults. Located on the picturesque forest moon of Endor, your child will have the opportunity to participate in wholesome outdoor activities and socialize appropriately with their peers. We invite your offspring to join us for the experience of a lifetime and a bright future in service of the greater glory of the Empire.
On opposite sides of the galaxy, on opposite sides of a civil war, Darth Vader and Padme Amidala unwittingly send Luke and Leia to the same camp during school break. Chaos naturally ensues.

3. Back To The Future - PinkEasterEggs
Teenage Princess Leia, heir to Alderaan's throne and her twin, Luke Vader, heir to the Imperial throne, get thrown back in time with the chance to save their parents before it's too late. With the Force finally on their side, they decide to have a little fun whilst they try and save their father's soul.

4. No Time Like The Present - PinkEasterEggs
In a Galaxy where Princess Leia Organa and Imperial Prince Luke Vader didn't Time Travel to save their father's soul, a deadly discovery by their biggest enemy throws their entire lives upside down. Yet again.
Now on the run from the Empire, the Skywalker Twins find it their mission to bring peace back to the Galaxy once more. And with Darth Vader on their trail, that mission is far more complicated than they originally believed.

(Part of the Back To The Future series. https://archiveofourown.org/series/1648657)
5. Great as the Sea-- Valkirin
Rescuing the last of Alderaan's survivors was an important duty, not an obsession, and Leia did not need to take a break. She did not have time to think about Darth Vader, the Force, or Luke Skywalker. It’s just her luck that the Force sends her with Luke Skywalker to a time where Darth Vader is about to rise.

6. turn my sorrow into treasured gold - cosmicocean:
“It might be better for you to die,” Obi-Wan muses as she holds her children in her arms. Padmé looks up at him and arches an eyebrow.
“I didn’t mean literally,” he clarifies.
“I know what you meant. I’m thinking about it.”
Padmé survives childbirth, dies as far as the rest of the galaxy is concerned, takes her children with Obi-Wan, and runs.
Pay me back in kind and reap just what you sow.

7. The Assassin's Blade - LadyVader23
Two years after Order 66, Padme is both an assassin for the Rebellion and a mother of twins. She will stop at nothing to bring democracy back to the Galaxy, even if it means killing Imperials to do it. But news of suspicious assassinations reaches Sidious, who dispatches Vader to hunt down this mysterious assassin. What Vader discovers will change the fate of the Galaxy.

8. anything is possible the second time around cloverblob
Leia Organa is sure that she died. She laid herself down, ready to become one with the Force. Except that she isn't dead--she hasn't even been born. So how did she end up on Tatooine? And why would fate bring her right here, right now?
https://archiveofourown.org/works/21941050/chapters/52364929
9. Influence of Time Cateyes1401 and SkylaDoragon
A freak accident sends Luke, Leia, and Vader splitting off to different points of the galaxy, over twenty years in the past. While Vader is careful to correct any errors his sudden appearance may cause in the timeline, Luke and Leia are not so cautious.
https://archiveofourown.org/works/20333248/chapters/48211621
10. Laying Down the Sand - Knitzkampf
An AU set at the time of ESB. Han Solo abandons Luke, Leia and Chewie to settle some unfinished business and sparks a series of events that challenges each one's destiny and the fate of the galaxy. An epic tale of friendship, love, family and lightsabers.
https://archiveofourown.org/works/9921947/chapters/22232960
11. Binary Sunsets, Binary Siblings - Coffeesforcatchers
The projection was as blue as the Tatooinian sky, making it hard for Luke to discern its features. But as the audio began to play, Luke felt his heart seize in his chest.
"Help me, Obi Wan Kenobi, you're my only hope."
Luke stared at the droid, his mouth open. "That's my sister!"
https://archiveofourown.org/works/14111466/chapters/32514372
12. Deja Vu - oncomingstorm42
Time travel AU fix-it wherein Luke and Leia are sent back in time to halfway through The Phantom Menace. They proceed to unscrew the timeline and save their parents while also kicking ass.

13. Heralding Home -planningconquest
Family can be what we make of it. It can be lost and found and comes together in strange and amazing ways.
(Note* Modern Au but still same principal applies)

14. Like Fire in Our Bones --- acuteneurosis
With all of the most important things in the galaxy literally exploding around her, Leia is given the chance to go back and help keep a promise she never personally made.
But then, for Skywalkers, saving the galaxy was always a family matter.
https://archiveofourown.org/works/19735813/chapters/46710241
15. I am as Strong as the Seas are Stormy (And as Proud as an Eagle's Scream)- RhiannonOfTheRoses
Leia Skywalker is only hours old when the Empire rises.
Leia Organa is twenty-three when it finally falls.
OR: The one in which Leia Organa is explored, and her life is uncovered.
16. Of Queens, Knights, and Pawns chancecraz
I went to sleep on the worst day of my life and woke to find myself in the past on the second worst day of my life. As experiences go, I don’t recommend it.
https://archiveofourown.org/works/8543680/chapters/19586203
(Part of the Of Queens, Knights, and Pawns series https://archiveofourown.org/series/825216)
17. Runaway SilverDaye
Imperial Prince Luke runs away from home to escape his overprotective father Emperor Vader. Jumping from planet to planet he finds himself creditless on Tatooine. While working for more money to leave the planet, Luke meets an old man named Ben Kenobi. But Luke knows he can't stay in one place for long for surely his father is hunting him down.

18. take the spade from my hands (and fill in the holes you've made) A_Different_Type_of_Flower
With her dying father's last request, eighteen-year-old Leia Organa sets out for the Outer Rim to find an exiled Jedi master and a brother she knew nothing about.
https://archiveofourown.org/works/9219026/chapters/20908517
19. Sparks SpellCleaver
Vader had every intention of ignoring that petty—if notorious—burglar on Coruscant, until evidence suggested that this "Angel" had Rebel ties.
Meanwhile, Luke never expected his father to actively hunt him down, and he doesn't like it.
20. the price of forgetting - surabayuh
Vader always thought that epiphany would come in waves; in the middle of meditation, perhaps, or a dream while he was resting, giving him unimaginable glee and satisfaction at its revelation.
He’d never thought epiphany would sledgehammer him here, at cell room number 2187, in the middle of an interrogation session, with an unconscious Alderaanian Princess laying on the floor.
(Part of the the bang the war-drums series)
(Note* Read the rest of this series seriously its so good)
21. heirs of the desert -- surabayuh
There was something about her, something familiar beyond the hairstyle or the attire; It was like a hole in his chest mended back by her presence. They walked closer to one another, slowly, slowly—like a planet realigning to their axis.
Dreams of a different life, a different reality, haunting him for as long as he could remember. Dreams of lush greeneries, of clear blue waters, of a high castle, of a brunette with bright brown eyes crinkling with laughter.
Leia, her name was Leia and he felt like he had known her his whole life, as if he'd known her as old as he had known time.
Around them, the Force sang.
https://archiveofourown.org/works/22226950/chapters/53070706
(Part of the the bang the war-drums series)
22. taste the regret (it's bittersweet.) - surabayuh
Han Solo didn't want much, really; he only agreed to pilot his way away from the grips of Jabba the Hutt, and maybe have a little adventure along the way. That was why he said yes to that old man's offer, back in Tatooine, why he came back to aid the Rebellion, back in Yavin.
But then again, who knew that somewhere down the line, he would have to be the middle-man in a galactic family drama that could determine the very fate of the universe?
Well; certainly not him.
https://archiveofourown.org/works/22452316/chapters/53646223
(Part of the the bang the war-drums series)
23. Endings and Beginnings, and Everything in Between - ITookTheOneLessTravelled
Dad might be mad at them, but Leia doesn't regret it. Luke and Leia Skywalker might be only fifteen, but they'd never have left their Dad in an Imperial prison cell to rot.
OR: Anakin raises the twins. Everything changes, but also nothing does.
https://archiveofourown.org/works/6757639
24. No Heroes on the High Seas - SpellCleaver
When Luke's aunt and uncle are executed by order of the Emperor's right hand, Lord Vader, he flees his home to search for his sister and the mother he never knew. But then Obi-Wan Kenobi stows away aboard the same ship, Vader gives chase, and Luke is dragged into a conflict that his family are at the very heart of.
https://archiveofourown.org/works/17092340/chapters/40194893
25. Ad Utrumque Paratus - obeyingthemuse
It's hard to bring balance to the Force when the only method you've seen is your black-cloaked psychic cyborg sorcerer dad with a severe breathing problem throwing an old man down the Death Star reactor shaft. As much as Luke would like to see the not-yet-Emperor dead, he doesn't want to be arrested by his unusually attractive(?) war-hero dad and spend the rest of his indeterminate time in the past dropping Ewok beats in a jail cell. Also Leia would probably kill him. But not before breaking him out of jail.
So when the twins wake up on Tatooine decades in the past, they play it safe. They take over a planet, reconnect with their adoptive and real parents without weirding them out (too much), and accidentally cause the Chancellor perpetual near-death experiences.
Nailed it.

A love note to KOTFE
Auyrini the bounty hunter is going through KOTFE. She’s finished her marathon of chapter 1-9 that seem to be necessary to lock the Lana romance (I hope) and now she can go through the rest more slowly, hopefully. Replaying KOTFE makes me remember that for all its flaws (we will not speak here of how That Zakuulan Family is handled), and for the fact that I don’t think it works well for the non-Force classes, story wise...I frigging love it. Unfortunately I think a lot of what I love is what some SWTOR fans pushed back against. 1. The chapters are long, with a lot of story. A LOT of story. 2. I don’t agree with the choices of some of the companions they chose to add to the main story, but some of them, like Vette and Aric Jorgan, are just brilliant. 3. I actually like that it’s mostly instanced. I personally hate fighting for objectives in open world or seeing other people’s characters showing up in my characters’ cut scenes. I liked that my characters in KOTFE have their own world to explore without being ninjaed. 4. Lana Beniko. LANA. BENIKO. Dear Heavens, this romance. Lana’s new design (not the dressable model but the standard one!). The voice acting. The fact that Lana gets some time in the spotlight. I love her so. damn. much. 5. Getting to work with companions from other classes. There are some that I think would really get along well with each other. Like Talos Drellik and my Jedi Consular. Hello, can you imagine the geekfest that would be? They’d be up all night discussing artifacts and lore. 6. Lana again, but specifically her wlw romance. Still, to date, the only complete wlw romance in the game. An amazing one. 7. The design. It’s obvious that they worked so damn hard on this. The Zakuul subway system. The little details and lighting in the swamp. Darvannis, with its village area. Vandin. Asylum. The really cool cantina on Odessen. The Odessen scenery. 8. Your character had a chance to move beyond Imps vs. Pubs and find a place in the galaxy of their own. If they were disillusioned with their faction they could get away from it. 9. The carbonite chapter really felt and played out like a nightmare, and really gave you a chance to see how insidious Valkorion was. I don’t think this chapter gets enough credit for being clever and well designed.

HBO Max New Releases: August 2021
https://ift.tt/3A1bKHN
Back when WarnerMedia (which technically no longer exists in the same form) announced that it would be premiering its entire slate of 2021 films on HBO Max, this is the kind of month they likely had in mind. For HBO Max’s list of new releases in August 2021 is highlighted by an honest-to-goodness blockbuster.
The Suicide Squad is set to premiere Aug. 5 on HBO Max. This film featuring some of DC Comics’ most curious villains borrows its name, format, and many of its characters from the David Ayers-directed 2016 film Suicide Squad. This time around, the rogues gallery is directing by James Gunn (Guardians of the Galaxy) and his colorful disposition. In addition to The Suicide Squad, August sees the arrival of the Hugh Jackman-starring Reminiscence on Aug. 20.

How The Suicide Squad is Different from Guardians of the Galaxy
By Mike Cecchini
It’s a good month for movies overall on HBO Max. Many intriguing library titles arrive on Aug. 1, including Collateral, The Fugitive (1993), The Shawshank Redemption, and Spawn. The Jurassic Park trilogy (Aug. 14), and Godzilla v. Kong (Aug. 17) make their return to the Warner streaming service a little later on.
HBO Max’s original TV offerings can’t compete with The Suicide Squad in August 2021, but there is still plenty to enjoy. The third season of erstwhile DC Universe series Titans premieres on Aug. 12. That will be followed by the second season of former Comedy Central delight The Other Two.

Aliens? Please explain
If you’re reading this, beware of MAJOR SPOILERS for the entirety of the Stormlight Archive so far, and brace yourselves for a massive infodump. Also I tried to put this under a read more but for whatever reason tumblr put it inside the ask itself.
Yes, there are many aliens or descendants of aliens in the Stormlight Archive. First, though, a bit of an astronomy lesson...
Stormlight takes place in a dwarf galaxy, with a series of planets orbiting different stars. This is known as the “cosmere,” Some of these planets are known as Shardworlds, meaning they have been Invested with magic energy (called Investiture), which manifests differently from Shardworld to Shardworld.
The cosmere is comprised of three Realms: the Physical Realm, the Cognitive Realm, and the Spiritual Realm. The Physical Realm is much like ours, though it has magic in it. The Cognitive Realm is the Realm of thoughts and minds, where ideas - how something thinks of itself - exist in pseudo-corporal forms (the exact metaphysics is unknown). The Spiritual Realm is the Realm of souls and how they Connect to each other. Note: everything has a soul, even non-living things. All three Realms exist universally in the Invested parts of the cosmere.
The Cognitive Realm is the most important of the three Realms in this discussion. While the Cognitive Realm roughly maps to the Physical Realm, distances aren’t quite the same, meaning that some things that are physically far apart are closer together in the Cognitive Realm. Some things have more cognitive presence than others (think humans vs a rock) and this corresponds to the size of their manifestation in the Cognitive Realm. Since there is very little cognitive presence in outer space, due to it being a vacuum, planets end up very close to each other in the Cognitive Realm.
It is possible for a person to transition between the three Realms at certain spots, called Perpendicularities, provided that that person is aware of how the cosmere works and/or is Invested enough to transition between Realms on their own. From here, they can “physically” navigate through the Cognitive Realm, using the shortened distances between planets as a way to “worldhop.” People who worldhop are called worldhoppers. Worldhoppers are the cosmere equivalent of extraterrestrial life.
Every book in the four main cosmere worlds - Stormlight, Mistborn, Elantris, and Warbreaker - have featured at least one worldhopper, though you have to be rather cosmere-aware to spot him sometimes (I’ll give you a hint: he often takes the form of a beggar or storyteller, and thinks himself very witty...). In Stormlight, which takes place on the planet Roshar - also the name of its only continent - there have been at least 1...2...3...4...5...6...7...8...9...plus another 10.............a lot. Big things are happening on Roshar, cosmere-wise, and a lot of people are making their way there, mostly for unknown reasons.
But this is in present-day Roshar, and not actually that big of a spoiler. This information is all part of the behind-the-scenes story of the cosmere that we get glimpses of through the various books and short stories. So what’s up with the big plot twist that most of the characters from Stormlight are descended from worldhoppers, aka aliens?
Well, for that we need to turn to some theology: specifically, Vorin theology, the main church in eastern Roshar that many of our beloved Alethis follow (or outright reject, in one case). Vorinism’s basic cosmology is as follows:
Humans once lived in the Tranquiline Halls, a world of peace.
The Voidbringers came from Damnation and drove them out to Roshar.
The ten Heralds fight the Voidbringers during each of the Desolations, a time of cataclysmic destruction that wipes out nearly all of humanity. They are accompanied by the Knights Radiant: normal people given the ability to Surgebind, or the ability to manipulate Roshar’s Investiture.
In Ahariatiam, the Last Desolation, the Heralds finally forced the Voidbringers back into the Transquiline Halls, where to this day the Heralds continue the fight against them.
Humans, when they die, return to the Tranquiline Halls. If they excelled in their Callings - what they are best at and devote themselves to developing - they will join the Heralds in their fight against the Voidbringers. Normal people just sleep, waiting the day when the battle is over.
The exact nature of the Tranquiline Halls is never explained, nor how the humans were expelled by the Voidbringers, but since it’s where human souls return after they die, it’s not a physical place so much as a metaphysical place. It’s like Heaven on earth. It’s not a physical place you go to so much as a non-physical place where your soul goes. This is how the Tranquiline Halls and Damnation (basically Hell) are treated in the Stormlight Archive by the practitioners of Vorinism.
Quite frankly, the average Rosharan doesn’t seem that concerned about the nature of the Tranquiline Halls. That’s a matter for the ardentia, the monks of Vorinism. Instead, Vorins are more concerned about Voidbringers. Though supposedly they’ve been trapped in the Tranquiline Halls with the Heralds, there are many folktales and superstitions about the Voidbringers still existing on Roshar. Knowledge about what, precisely, Voidbringers were is hard to come by. It’s been 4500 years since the Last Desolation, 2000 years since the Knights Radiant abandoned their oaths and betrayed mankind (an event known as the Recreance), and 500 years since a group of ardents known as the Hierocracy attempted to take over all of Roshar, purging as much information as they could of the Knights Radiant and the Recreance. This included much of the information about the nature of the Voidbringers. What _is _known is that they were extremely powerful and very dangerous, bent on destroying humankind after chasing them out of the Tranquiline Halls.
In the first book of Stormlight, Jasnah Kholin, the foremost scholar in all of Roshar (and avowed renouncer of Vorinism), discovered the origins of the Voidbringers: the parshmen. See, humans are not the only sentient humanoid species on Roshar. There are the parshmen, people with hardened carapace instead of skin, who are slaves to most of the kingdoms of Roshar because of their obedience, endurance, and low intellectual ability. Jasnah theorized that, at some point since Ahariatiam, humans figured out how to enslave Voidbringers into parshmen. This is quite the startling realization, because Jasnah, among others, believes that the Voidbringers are coming back. The Last Desolation may not have been so final after all....
In book two, the Voidbringers return. Enough parshmen who weren’t enslaved and retained enough intellectual ability to function (known as the Parshendi) summoned the Everstorm, a cataclysmic hurricane from their god Odium that returns to parshmen their ability to think, thus freeing them from enslavement. And it turns some parshmen into Voidbringers, and each pass of the storm returns more and more of them. The disgraced Knights Radiant have also begun to return, supported by their god, Honor, in order to fight the Voidbringers and protect mankind.
All of this changes in book three, Oathbringer, in chapter 111, “Eila Stele,” towards the end of Part Four, over a million words into the series. The Eila Stele is the oldest known written document on Roshar, carved into a stone and believed to be from before the Desolations began, rumored to be written by the Heralds themselves. However, until Oathbringer, it was written in a dead language called the Dawnchant, for which translations have been lost. Through a specific use of Investiture, though, Jasnah and her scholars are able to translate the Dawnchant and provide a translation of the Eila Stele, which reads:
They came from another world, using powers that we have been forbidden to touch. Dangerous powers, of spren and Surges. They destroyed their lands and have come to us begging.
We took them in, as commanded by the gods. What else could we do? They were a people forlorn, without a home. Our pity destroyed us. For their betrayal extended even to our gods: to spren, stone, and wind.
Beware the otherworlders. The traitors. Those with tongues of sweetness, but with minds that lust for blood. Do not take them in. Do not give them succor. Well were they named Voidbringers, for they brought the void. The empty pit that sucks in emotion. A new god. Their god.
These Voidbringers know no songs. They cannot hear Roshar, and where they go, they bring silence. They look soft, with no shell, but they are hard. They have but one heart, and it cannot ever live.
The original Voidbringers were not parshmen. They were humans who invaded Roshar after destroying their home planet, likely escaping through the Cognitive Realm and emerging into the Physical Realm on Roshar, the nearest planet.
The first and last paragraphs are where we find the proof of this. “They came from another world” is fairly clear, as is “They destroyed their lands.” The last paragraph is where we learn that the Voidbringers were humans, not parshmen, who actually call themselves the “singers”. The references to the Voidbringers bringing silence is due to the fact that singers are attuned to the Rhythms of Roshar, a cosmere-wide series of vibrations throughout the Spiritual Realm, though singers are the only ones able to feel/hear them. Humans cannot, and are therefore “silent.” They also are “soft, with no shell,” referring to the fact that they have skin instead of carapace.
The tl;dr of everything else is that after humans fled to Roshar, they were given land by the singers, who took pity on them. However, humans then tried to conquer other parts of Roshar that belonged to the singers. The singers’ gods (spren, aka parts of Honor) betrayed them for the humans, and so the singers turned to Odium - who had followed/chased/been brought by humans to Roshar from their original home - for help in order to fight back against the humans. In response, the Heralds worked with Honor to trap Odium’s soldiers in Damnation, ushering in the cycle of Desolations. The term “Voidbringer” is associated with Odium, and so basically anyone who’s allied with Odium, and thus became associated with the singers, as they were the soldiers of Odium. Eventually, the humans won. Or so they thought. Now, Odium and his soldiers returned, and humans once more are fighting to defend themselves from the Voidbringers.
This is where our beloved characters find themselves: fighting another war against Odium and the Voidbringers and facing another Desolation. Except this time, the rightfulness of the war is brought into question. Are the humans right to be fighting against the people who were just trying to defend themselves from humans in the first place? Previously, the humans had Honor on their side to ensure them of the morality of their battle, but Honor was killed by Odium shortly after the Recreance, when the Knights Radiant gave up their oaths upon learning the truth about the Voidbringers. Humans have no God to guide them anymore.
We haven’t yet seen the fallout from the translation of the Elia Stele. Pretty much immediately after the translation was published, an Everstorm approached, with only hours to prepare for a massive battle in which Odium made his first major overture of war. The book ended shortly thereafter. We will have to see what happens in book four, which comes out in November.
So yes. The biggest plot twist of the Stormlight Archive thus far is that it is actually a story about dealing with the effects of an alien invasion in which the aliens won but then forgot they were aliens. In book four, there our heroes will have to grapple with the dubious morality of their way and the themes of the book will include discussions about postcolonial theory and decolonization. In this essay I will
